- 4:57SPEAKER_00: How you use this power defines how people will respond to you, how they will trust you and whether they will willingly follow you.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Human culture is littered with stories.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: The villains of these stories use their power to serve themselves.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: They use power to gain more power, to gain personal wealth, to keep others down and to defend their privileged positions.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: The heroes of these stories use their powers to help others, to defend others, to make others' lives easier and better.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Heroes don't use their power for personal gain.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: The heroes are remembered, respected, admired and celebrated.

- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Actively work to make your relationship with your boss as positive as possible.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Pleasing your boss is an important part of building a positive relationship and getting promoted.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: It is very easy to get sucked into focusing more time looking upwards and pleasing your boss rather than looking downwards to your team to increase their well-being and performance.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: If your team is not performing, is unhappy, has high staff attrition, is causing problems that impact into the wider business, etc., how pleased is your boss going to be with you?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Not very.

- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Now I'm covering five ways to leverage your time, put your team first, and gain rapid promotion.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: You only have so much time available to you, even if you work really long days.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: The more you can use your time to increase the productivity and performance of your team, the more value your efforts will create as a manager.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Creating a 5% productivity gain across the team is a lot more valuable than a 10% personal gain in productivity.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: The team will be a lot closer to reaching the goals and certainly creating a lot more value for the business.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: A very good reason to put your team before yourself in where you focus your time.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Five key ways for any manager to leverage their time and gain rapid promotion as a result are firstly set clear direction and goals for the team and each person within the team.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Clear direction within a team creates a compounding effect with the effort put in by each team member, i.e.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: 2 plus 2 equals 5 in many cases.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Clear direction massively reduces wasted effort as well.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Also, work within your team to plan out how the goals agreed are going to be reached.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: A clear path also saves the team a lot of time.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Secondly, work on creating a team environment where team members trust each other, work to support and help each other, communicate openly and honestly.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: In short, work as a team and share success.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Lead by example, praise and encourage positive behaviours, decisions and actions in the team, and stop negative behaviors, decisions and actions quickly to encourage the right team environment.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Third, actively look for and remove as many problems as possible that negatively impact the team.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Think people, processes and systems.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: People problems from communication, relationships, expectation management, behaviours, etc.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: are the trickiest.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Be diplomatic and handle the conflicts quickly and neutrally.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Fourth, get comfortable with saying no to lower value work and tasks so that you can focus your team on the most important tasks, activities and projects for business success.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: This will significantly improve your team's performance and you will get rapid promotion much easier.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Fifth, invest your time in looking for automation opportunities across the team.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Actively looking for opportunities to help your team become more productive is a great way of putting your team before yourself and significantly improves team performance.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: This is a great way to increase the value you add to the business and get rapid promotion.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: So, in summary, as a manager, put your team before yourself, and you'll be serving your best interests alongside those of the team in the business.
