- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:29Have you ever had a bruise on your leg or your arm and you
- 0:33have no idea where it came from? I mean, I know I have one right
- 0:37now, and This is why I I'm using this as a metaphor.
- 0:41But we have this bruise and we have no idea where it came from
- 0:43and it looks nasty. It looks like, jeez, I probably
- 0:45got hit really hard and I didn't even realize it was there.
- 0:49Or a paper cut. You have a paper cut and you
- 0:51don't know it until you go to cut vegetables or cut something
- 0:55for dinner and lemon juice or something acidic gets into it
- 0:59and all of a sudden you're like, ah, what is that?
- 1:01And you don't even realize that it's there.
- 1:03Well, those are great physical reminders of the things that
- 1:07happened to us that we don't know affect us.
- 1:11And when we start to pay attention to them and we start
- 1:13to think about them and like mentally take in, OK, I have a
- 1:19bruise here and, and it's affecting me, but I didn't even
- 1:22realize it happened. This, this goes on constantly
- 1:26throughout our days. Little people will say little
- 1:29things and they will show up in our world the way later.
- 1:33And then we get like, what wait, what, what happened?
- 1:36Sometimes they're easily identifiable and sometimes
- 1:40they're more covert. And you have to think back about
- 1:44how long can they stay with you? So how long can an emotional
- 1:47bruise stay with you? How long can an emotional paper
- 1:52cut stay with you? And it can stay with you for a
- 1:55very, very long time. And I was I, I play this game
- 2:02with myself about memory and I always try to think of something
- 2:06every day I work on this. And I'm not joking when I say
- 2:08every day I try to remember something from my childhood that
- 2:12was common. That was that I did like, you
- 2:16know, taking the drive, driving my daughter to daycare or
- 2:20driving my son to school or like, I'll think of anything.
- 2:24Well, the other day I was remembering that I was trying to
- 2:27go back as far as I could remember.
- 2:29How far back can I remember? And amazingly, well, maybe it's
- 2:35not amazing, but it's the fact that the, one of the strongest
- 2:39memories that I have came from when I was in preschool and my
- 2:44mom put me into this private preschool and she was because
- 2:49she said she, you know, I was too curious and she needed help
- 2:52to help work with me. So I went to this private
- 2:55preschool and they took us on a field trip and we went to
- 2:59Plymouth Plantation, which is a replica of the Pilgrims and
- 3:04where they came in in, in Massachusetts.
- 3:07And this particular trip, I did not realize that we were going
- 3:12to be going or I didn't even know because at that time, how
- 3:15would I know? Maybe she didn't realize I was
- 3:17going to be terrified of it. But we went into the, the
- 3:21museum, the wax museum. And again, my vivid memories of
- 3:27this show up with me walking in the door with the group and
- 3:31seeing these wax people who look really creepy even to an adult
- 3:38and freaking out. And I remember distinctly
- 3:42screaming and trying to crawl up over somebody to get away from
- 3:48this and wanting to go out the door and turning around and
- 3:52running out the door and a teacher grabbing me, bringing me
- 3:57back in. They they made me walk through,
- 4:01which was horrifying. I shut my eyes.
- 4:04I cried the whole time. I couldn't wait to get out and
- 4:07go home. I kept screaming for my mother.
- 4:10No one called her. It was one of those times in
- 4:13life where it would have been handled completely differently
- 4:16now, but then it was not. I was forced to walk through
- 4:20now. Immediately when I thought of
- 4:23that moment, I was like, wow, that is one of those emotional
- 4:28bruises that I never really thought about and that shows up.
- 4:33My family went to see Scary Movie on Saturday night.
- 4:36I refuse to go. It shows up when I see
- 4:40something. I'll be like, oh, you know, oh,
- 4:42that's creepy. Don't go near that.
- 4:44These little emotional bruises are there.
- 4:47They stay. And I had never equated it to
- 4:50how severe that incident was because I was forced to go
- 4:54through it the wrong way. No one stopped and said, listen.
- 4:59In fact, I remember the teacher laughing.
- 5:02And what's so, so mind boggling to me is how could you have a
- 5:07child screaming and be laughing? But that's what happened.
- 5:10The person was laughing. So I'm telling you all of this
- 5:15because it was a great reminder for me, one, to be aware of all
- 5:20these little emotional bruises and how they show up, and two,
- 5:24to really look at on how they're affecting you now.
- 5:28So now I have clarity even further about why some of those
- 5:32things show up. I had some distinct other things
- 5:34happen, but I had forgotten about that one.
- 5:37And as soon as I made that connection, I was like, huh, OK,
- 5:41that explains a lot. So look for those emotional
- 5:44bruises as much as you have, and paper cuts as much as you have
- 5:49the time to think about it. You will find some.
- 5:53All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:55will see you tomorrow. Bye.
