- 1:09Jonathan: Hello, Dork Squad.
- 1:11Jonathan: I'm Jonathan Cormur, and you're listening to Dork Tales Storytime, the podcast for kids and their pop culture loving grown-ups.
- 1:18Jonathan: And this is one of our anything is possible lore stories.
- 1:23Theme Song: It's a beautiful day for a story, adventuring glory, new friends and old ones too.
- 1:30Theme Song: It's an excellent day to get swept away in a tale, so let us regale you.
- 1:47Redge: Absolutely stunning orange color.
- 1:49Redge: Fully intact.
- 1:51Redge: A treasure! I'll just add this to my basket.
- 1:55Redge: Uh let's see.
- 1:56Redge: Uh yes, yes.
- 1:57Redge: Oh, this is a very nice one, yes, over here.
- 2:00Redge: And add it to the pile! Add it to the stock! Here we go.
- 2:05Redge: Put it in that ah, oh, oh, this nice little pile right there.
- 2:10Redge: Very good.
- 2:12Jonathan: Oh, Redge! There you are.
- 2:15Redge: Oh, hello, Jonathan.
- 2:16Redge: I've just been out collecting these maple leaves.
- 2:20Redge: One of my favorite fall activities.
- 2:24Jonathan: Right.
- 2:24Jonathan: For the maple leaf medals?
- 2:28Redge: Correct! As soon as the leaves fall from the trees, all the Folktale Forest hedgehogs gather together and collect them off the ground.
- 2:38Jonathan: And then you turn them into medals.
- 2:40Redge: Yes.
- 2:41Redge: And give them to the trees for their exemplary service.
- 2:45Redge: To keep their spirits high during the lonely months of winter.
- 2:50Jonathan: What are the awards usually for?
- 2:52Redge: Why, for so many things, Jonathan.
- 2:55Redge: For providing shade, offering shelter to all forest folk, uh for producing fresh oxygen.
- 3:03Jonathan: I love it.
- 3:05Redge: Me too.
- 3:07Jonathan: Well, to be honest, Redge, I came looking for you because I was trying to think of a way to cheer up our friends after all the storms we've had recently.
- 3:15Jonathan: Get everyone together and outside enjoying this brisk fall day.
- 3:20Jonathan: Do you think we could give maple leaf medals to our friends too?
- 3:24Jonathan: Just something special to kick off the season.
- 3:30Redge: You know, I've never considered that before.
- 3:34Jonathan: Well?
- 3:35Redge: hold on, I'm considering
- 3:38Jonathan: uh Redge
- 3:41Redge: Yes, let's do it! But uh let's really put on a show.
- 3:45Jonathan: Ooh, a show, huh?
- 3:48Redge: Let's razzle dazzle em
- 3:51Jonathan: An excellent idea.
- 3:53Redge: So what kind of show will we put on?
- 3:56Jonathan and Redge: Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm
- 4:07Jonathan: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
- 4:11Redge: I think I am.
- 4:14Jonathan and Redge: A talent show!
- 4:37Jonathan: What a beautiful ballet number from one of the most graceful trios around.
- 4:42Redge: If you're just joining us here in this clearing, might I remind you that this is the Folktale Forest's first annual talent show?
- 4:51Redge: Maple Leaf Legends.
- 4:56Jonathan: That's right, folks.
- 4:57Jonathan: We've taken our beloved hedgehog's maple leaf medal tradition, and we're sharing it with the forest trees and forest creatures this year.
- 5:07Redge: As such, for our dance's extraordinaire, please accept your Move to the Groove Medal.
- 5:20Dancers: Thank you, thank you.
- 5:24Jonathan: That's one of my favorite medals.
- 5:26Redge: Mine too.
- 5:28Redge: Let's see.
- 5:29Redge: Just a little recap of our evening so far.
- 5:32Redge: We've seen Nicolai the Firefly put on a spectacular light show with the fireflies of the forest,
- 5:39Jonathan: earning him the Best in Glow Medal.
- 5:42Jonathan: Then, Francois the Ferret, lover of classics, recited a Shakespearean monologue.
- 5:50Redge: To be or not to be absolutely fabulous.
- 5:57Jonathan: His performance earned him the All the World's Stage Medal.
- 6:02Redge: Delightful.
- 6:04Jonathan: Now, uh who is up next?
- 6:07Redge: Oh, you won't even believe it.
- 6:09Jonathan: Well, who is it, Mr.
- 6:11Jonathan: Redge?
- 6:12Redge: He's a wonderful wordsmith, our Biograsea birdie, a potato loving poet with plumage.
- 6:22Redge: Shrimp the seagull
- 6:26Jonathan: You got shrimp?
- 6:27Redge: We got shrimp.
- 6:29Redge: Take it away, friend.
- 6:35Shrimp: There once was a seagull so fine, who led the best heists of all time, for he thought by the sea, all the French fries are for me.
- 6:47Shrimp: I won't leave a potato behind.
- 6:50Shrimp: So he soared over the ocean blue to fulfill his life's purpose most true, leaving people surprised as he snatched up their fries, and took off before they even knew.
- 7:12Jonathan: Bravo, Shrimp! What a prodigious poem!
- 7:16Redge: So impressive, in fact, that you will be receiving this Maple Leaf Medal, which bestows upon you the title of Folktale Forest Poet Laureate.
- 7:30Shrimp: Ah, shucks.
- 7:32Redge: Are you ready for our next performance?
- 7:35Jonathan: I was born ready.
- 7:37Redge: When we learned about bat expert Merlin Tuttle, we heard how incredible bats are for the world around us.
- 7:45Jonathan: And now we're going to watch their astonishing Night Flying Circus act.
- 7:51Redge: Featuring our winged friends Tabitha Vampiria the Third and Lugo.
- 7:59Redge: Join us in welcoming the amazing Acro-bats.
- 8:04Redge: Spins and loop de loops.
- 8:24Jonathan: Yeah, we really caught them on the flip side.
- 8:28Redge: What?
- 8:28Redge: Ah, because they're acrobats.
- 8:34Redge: You know, they are some of my favorite creatures to hang around with.
- 8:44Jonathan: Because they're acro bats.
- 8:48Redge: But seriously, though, they are the best.
- 8:51Redge: And that mind-blowing performance deserves a maple leaf medal.
- 8:57Jonathan: You bet, Mr.
- 8:58Jonathan: Redge.
- 8:58Jonathan: I'm pleased to present the Stars of Stellar Stunts Medal.
- 9:05Lugo: Thank you, thank you.
- 9:07Lugo: Such an honor, Johnny.
- 9:11Jonathan: Well done, Lugo and Company.
- 9:14Jonathan: Now, for our final act, we have a very special musical guest.
- 9:21Redge: Do we ever?
- 9:23Jonathan: Our beloved branch sisters are off on their Birds of a Feather Sing Together tour, but we have a band here that is just as spectacular.
- 9:33Jonathan: Can you believe it?
- 9:35Redge: I can.
- 9:36Redge: Because it's my band.
- 9:40Jonathan: Featuring Gerald the Rooster on vocals, please welcome the Merry Band of Bremen!
- 9:56Gerald: I the cockadoodloo.
- 9:59Gerald: Anything for you.
- 10:02Gerald: When skies are grey, I'll find you skies so blue.
- 10:11Gerald: I'll be the feather in your cap.
- 10:16Gerald: The roof over roost.
- 10:19Gerald: I cock-doodle-do anything for you.
- 10:28Gerald: Oh the world can be fowl for a hen A doodle do.
- 10:38Gerald: But with love, all is conquered in the end.
- 10:45Gerald: A doodle do I the cockadoodle do anything for you!
- 11:00Jonathan: What a treat! We got to hear one of my favorite hits off of Meow, That's What I Call Music.
- 11:08Gerald: And boy, do I love to sing! Huh!
- 11:12Jonathan: You were spectacular, Gerald! Which is why the Band of Bremen has been awarded the Music to My Ears Medal.
- 11:21Gerald: I thank you for this feather in my cap.
- 11:24Redge: What joy, what fun!
- 11:27Jonathan: This show has been so rewarding, but alas, all good things must come to an end.
- 11:33Redge: Oh wait one moment, Jonathan! You haven't received a Maple Leaf Medal!
- 11:39Jonathan: But I didn't perform.
- 11:42Redge: Perhaps not.
- 11:43Redge: But for so many days of the year, you share exciting stories with all of us in the forest.
- 11:50Redge: Thus, a medal is required.
- 11:55Jonathan: Well, I'm honored, Redge.
- 11:57Redge: I now present to you the Author of Imagination Medal.
- 12:07Jonathan: Wow, this is the best!
- 12:11Redge: And now we have completed our evening's festivities.
- 12:16Jonathan: Thank you so much, Redge.
- 12:17Jonathan: And thank you to everyone who shared their talents with us.
- 12:22Redge: May Maple Leaf legends continue to bloom well into the future.
- 12:27Jonathan: We'll never be in need of acts for this show.
- 12:29Jonathan: You're all chalk full of talent.
- 12:32Jonathan: Oh, and uh everyone, be sure to grab a basket on your way out to collect more maple leaves so we can award the trees come winter.
- 12:40Redge: I just love the autumnal time of year.
- 12:44Jonathan: I've fallen for it too, Redge.
- 12:47Redge: To unbe-leaf-able talent
- 12:50Jonathan: and happy harvests for all.
- 13:14Redge: You've reached Mr.
- 13:15Redge: Redge's hotline.
- 13:17Redge: What are you curious about today?
- 13:19Redge: Oh, Jonathan! Jonathan! Come here! You have to see this!
- 13:27Jonathan: What is it, Redge?
- 13:28Jonathan: Is it important?
- 13:30Jonathan: I'm still cleaning up after our spectacular Maple Leaf Legends talent show last night.
- 13:35Redge: Yes, it was a razzle dazzler, wasn't it?
- 13:38Redge: Uh but yes, this is of the utmost and extremely urgent importance.
- 13:44Jonathan: Okay, buddy, what is it?
- 13:46Redge: Well, I was checking my Mr.
- 13:48Redge: Redge Hotline correspondence this morning, and we got a message from Kamau.
- 13:53Redge: He's nine years old and a huge fan of our podcast.
- 13:58Jonathan: Ah, Kamau, we're so honored, thank you.
- 14:02Redge: He says he listens to our stories almost every night, and likes Little Redge Hen and Beanstalk the most.
- 14:11Jonathan: My precious
- 14:15Redge: excuse you, good sir.
- 14:17Jonathan: Oh sorry about that.
- 14:20Jonathan: My Beanstalk ogre just kinda slipped out.
- 14:25Redge: Right.
- 14:26Redge: Anywho, that's not all.
- 14:30Jonathan: Oh?
- 14:31Redge: Look at this masterpiece he drew.
- 14:34Redge: It's a picture of poor little Redge Hen cooking away in the kitchen, while the unbelievably unconcerned cow spends time on Zoom with the overly obstinate ostrich and sourly stubborn sheep.
- 14:50Jonathan: Wow! That's brilliant, Kamau.
- 14:52Jonathan: Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
