- 0:29Speaker 1: room interviews and analysis from my broadcast partner Dave Lapham. Then,
- 0:33Speaker 1: in this week's fun fact segment, you'll get to know
- 0:36Speaker 1: a former Patriot now in his first year with the Bengals,
- 0:39Speaker 1: tight end Devin Asias. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought

- 1:08Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since toewarmers.
- 1:13Speaker 1: On the morning of the game, as we discussed the
- 1:16Speaker 1: frigid weather conditions, Bengals president Mike Brown asked me the
- 1:20Speaker 1: following question, do you leave the window open and the
- 1:23Speaker 1: radio booth? The answer is always as a broadcaster, I
- 1:29Speaker 1: like to hear the crowd and feel what it's like
- 1:31Speaker 1: for the players and coaches will sometimes leave the window
- 1:35Speaker 1: closed until the last possible moment, but once the game begins,
- 1:39Speaker 1: it has to be open. As a result, I came
- 1:43Speaker 1: prepared in Foxborough and for the first time ever, put
- 1:47Speaker 1: toewarmers in my shoes. It was quite possibly the smartest
- 1:51Speaker 1: decision since the Bengals drafted Jamar Chase instead of Pinney Sewell.
- 1:56Speaker 1: If you plan to attend the Bengals final regular season
- 1:59Speaker 1: games or any home playoff games, I highly recommend toewarmers.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Your toasty toes will thank you after the game. Now,
- 2:10Speaker 1: let's get to the highlights from Sunday's Hold On for
- 2:13Speaker 1: Dear Life win over the Patriots. It is Christmas Eve
- 2:17Speaker 1: here in New England and it is a bitterly cold
- 2:20Speaker 1: day for football. The temperature is twenty degrees, the wind
- 2:25Speaker 1: chill is eight degrees. As the song says, Jack Frost,
- 2:31Speaker 1: is nipping at our nose as the ten and four
- 2:33Speaker 1: Bengals take on the seven and seven New England Patriots,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and it is time for the big skin to fly
- 2:41Speaker 1: here in Foxborough. Second down in two Bengals from their
- 2:44Speaker 1: own thirty Burrow back to throw, flings it deep for
- 2:47Speaker 1: t Higgins bnet taking advantage of a huge height advantage
- 2:53Speaker 1: over five foot eight inch Marcus Jones. He makes the
- 2:56Speaker 1: catch and gets tackled at the New England thirty one.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Boyden eggins out to the left, chase out to the right.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Burrow wants to throw throws, the Higgins catches it. Ethel
- 3:05Speaker 1: Low fights for the goal line touchdown. Bengals has Cincinnati
- 3:12Speaker 1: marches right down the field and scores a touchdown against
- 3:16Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's Patriots defense. Boy did they ever just carve
- 3:20Speaker 1: him up? Hot knife through butter shotgun snap to Burrow.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He has time, got throws for the end zone. Trenton
- 3:27Speaker 1: Irwin with the catch. Touchdowns Bengals a twenty three yard
- 3:33Speaker 1: throw right on the money to Trenton Irwin, who has
- 3:36Speaker 1: his third NFL touchdown catch, and Ted Carris joints Irwin
- 3:41Speaker 1: in the end zone for the Irish jig money mac
- 3:43Speaker 1: missed wide right on his first pat and wide left
- 3:46Speaker 1: on his second. Fans are trying to get in his
- 3:49Speaker 1: head to snap the put down by Crispin to kick
- 3:52Speaker 1: his up. It is good. There you go. So the
- 3:57Speaker 1: Bengals have scored on their first three possession and nine
- 4:01Speaker 1: seconds into the second quarter, it's fifteen nothing Cincinnati. Third
- 4:05Speaker 1: down and goal from the four. P Ryan in a
- 4:08Speaker 1: running back, three receivers right, one left, Burrow looking throws
- 4:13Speaker 1: it right. It is Irwin. He's got it. Touchdown Bengals.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Trenton Irwin with his second touchdown catch here in the
- 4:24Speaker 1: first half, and the Bengals have taken a twenty one
- 4:28Speaker 1: to nothing lead. Burrow in the gun p Rhan to
- 4:31Speaker 1: his right, Plitts coming from the Patriots. Burrow throws off
- 4:34Speaker 1: his bow foot intercepted and charging down the field is
- 4:38Speaker 1: Marcus Jones to the sideline the thirty, the twenty, the
- 4:42Speaker 1: ten touchdown, a pit six for Marcus Jones has the
- 4:48Speaker 1: Patriots score another defensive touchdown, their sixth of the year.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow aren't opposite pages and
- 4:58Speaker 1: you're not gonna see that very often whatsoever. Third down
- 5:01Speaker 1: in goal from the five. Mac Jones catches at the ten,
- 5:05Speaker 1: dropped back a couple of yards, looking looking throws for
- 5:09Speaker 1: the back right corner of the end zone, caught by
- 5:12Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne Cam Taylor. Brett never turned around. The ball
- 5:17Speaker 1: floated right over him into the waiting arms of Burn
- 5:21Speaker 1: for a touchdown. Mac Jones waiting for the shotgun snap
- 5:24Speaker 1: back at his own forty six, He catches. It's a
- 5:27Speaker 1: three man rush aid in coverage. Jones in trouble running backwards.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Now he's gonna launch it toward the end zone. It
- 5:35Speaker 1: isn't caught by Jacobe Myers. It was intended for Bourn.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It got deflected to Myers and he made the catch
- 5:46Speaker 1: for the Patriots. Miraculous touchdown. I'm third down in three.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Burrow will look to pass his throw, caught by Chase
- 5:55Speaker 1: The Patriots three come home forty four yard line. Wow.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Now that's three takeaways for the New England Patriots, no
- 6:05Speaker 1: takeaways for the Cincinnati Bengals. Matthew Judon forced it and
- 6:09Speaker 1: the Patriots are forty three yards away from a go
- 6:13Speaker 1: ahead touchdown. Mac Jones waiting for the shotgun snap hands
- 6:17Speaker 1: it off. Stevenson stacked up going backward ball tackle ball,
- 6:22Speaker 1: ball is out out the Bengals. They're celebrating. Turnover. They've
- 6:25Speaker 1: got it, Turnongals. He recovered the turnover. The Patriots need
- 6:30Speaker 1: fifteen yards to keep the game alive, fifteen seconds to go.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Mac Jones back to throw. He's gonna gun it deep
- 6:36Speaker 1: down field balls baby and complete no penalty flaw. And
- 6:43Speaker 1: that is coffin nails. Bam, bam, bam. Merry Christmas to
- 6:50Speaker 1: all and to all a good night. Time to go
- 6:53Speaker 1: inside the locker room. And we start with Von Bell.
- 6:56Speaker 1: He forced the Romandre Stevenson fumble with fifty nine seconds
- 7:01Speaker 1: to go that was recovered at the eight yard line.
- 7:05Speaker 1: A lot of big plays in this game. I don't
- 7:07Speaker 1: think anyone was bigger than forcing that fumble with a
- 7:09Speaker 1: minute to go. Describe what you saw and how it happened.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Just really going out to land it all out for
- 7:14Speaker 1: the guys, and we knew, we knew, we know, takeaway
- 7:17Speaker 1: a spart play for the to finish out the game,
- 7:19Speaker 1: but uh, just aw the just just really just attacking
- 7:22Speaker 1: the ball like we've been practicing the strip, attempts at
- 7:24Speaker 1: the ball, just punching at it and it just came
- 7:26Speaker 1: out on now. So giving for my guys out there
- 7:30Speaker 1: fighting and just made the play. Was it getting a
- 7:33Speaker 1: little frustrating. I mean they got a lucky touchdown pass.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You guys had dominated and yet you found yourself on
- 7:39Speaker 1: the brink of possibly letting it get away. Yeah, but
- 7:42Speaker 1: you just gotta keep on fighting, uh, because they make plays.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You know, they get paid like we do. So we
- 7:47Speaker 1: just gonna go out there and finish. And that's the
- 7:48Speaker 1: biggest thing. Don't let u like like we've been saying,
- 7:51Speaker 1: don't look down, just keep on going, just keep on
- 7:53Speaker 1: chipping away and just keep on laying a brick. So
- 7:55Speaker 1: we never gave up this guy. It shows that we
- 7:58Speaker 1: could win a tough situation. So that's that's good and
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's growth. But it's also a thing. But we just
- 8:02Speaker 1: gotta finish and um and step on guys, uh and
- 8:05Speaker 1: kill them early throughout the game when we have a chance.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Don't let them get back in the in the game.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So but it's two things to learn from. But uh,
- 8:12Speaker 1: it's a it's a great it's a great win. It's
- 8:14Speaker 1: hard to win this league, and uh, we just gotta
- 8:16Speaker 1: finish seven in a row. It's really hard to win
- 8:19Speaker 1: seven in a row. It is indeed, especially when we
- 8:21Speaker 1: get in High Street at the right time, everybody clicking
- 8:23Speaker 1: on all cylinders. Complimentary football, special teams, offense and defense.
- 8:27Speaker 1: So uh, it's a great team win. Find What was
- 8:30Speaker 1: it like to be out there in that call. It's
- 8:32Speaker 1: pretty chilly, m but it's December football and U you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: we gotta We always say we do our best work
- 8:38Speaker 1: in the code, so we're going out there just making
- 8:40Speaker 1: place for one to a huge play. Congratulations on the
- 8:43Speaker 1: play in the win. Thank you so much. It was
- 8:46Speaker 1: Vine's second forced fumble of the year to go with
- 8:48Speaker 1: four interceptions. Joe Burrows said after the game that Dell
- 8:52Speaker 1: deserves to be a pro bowler for all of the
- 8:54Speaker 1: big plays he's made this year. Von forced to fumble.
- 8:59Speaker 1: B J. Hill recovered it, PJ. Congratulations on a great win.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Number seven in a row. Came down to a defensive stop.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Von force the fumble. You recovered it. I described that play,
- 9:11Speaker 1: m vall me the big play. Um, I've seen the
- 9:13Speaker 1: ball out and I'll try to get as fast as
- 9:15Speaker 1: I can't get. Let's see hands reaching at it. But
- 9:18Speaker 1: we came. We battle. Um, you just gotta fix himself
- 9:21Speaker 1: in the second half. But Like I said, Vall made
- 9:24Speaker 1: a huge play right then I was right there to
- 9:26Speaker 1: pick it up. What kinds of things were you guys
- 9:28Speaker 1: saying on that final defensive you know, possession where basically, hey,
- 9:33Speaker 1: we've dominated, but we're in danger if we don't make
- 9:35Speaker 1: a play. Oh, we had to do our job, and
- 9:37Speaker 1: that's what we did. When at the end of the game,
- 9:39Speaker 1: we just had a lock in real quick, do our
- 9:41Speaker 1: job and get off the field, and that's what we did.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You've had a knack for recovering fumbles this year. Is
- 9:46Speaker 1: there anything to it? Fond the ball and get it. Um,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know, right place at the right time, plays making
- 9:53Speaker 1: big plays. I'm right there to help you get the ball.
- 9:55Speaker 1: It was a crazy finish. Can you describe the emotions
- 9:58Speaker 1: of being so dominant form my to the game and
- 10:00Speaker 1: then suddenly finding yourselves in a position where you needed
- 10:03Speaker 1: to make a stop. Um, it's hard to win NFL
- 10:07Speaker 1: each and every week is as hard as stuff. We
- 10:09Speaker 1: found a way to win us all the matters we
- 10:12Speaker 1: won and it's something we want to the next game.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Seven straight wins, still in contention for the number one seed.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Describe the role this team is on right now. Just
- 10:22Speaker 1: take each day, one of the time, focus on the
- 10:24Speaker 1: little things that we need to fix. It's coming up week,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and then we got a big game ahead of us.
- 10:28Speaker 1: We're excited for some challenge and we're ready for it.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Grat's How to Win, Thank You, Thanks Both. Podcast is

- 10:49Speaker 1: one Cincinnati player went out for the coin toss before
- 10:52Speaker 1: the game, Center Ted Carriss, who spent five of his
- 10:55Speaker 1: previous six seasons in the NFL playing for Bill Belichick
- 10:59Speaker 1: and the Patriots. Dave Lapham caught up with him in
- 11:03Speaker 1: front of his locker. If anybody knows there's no quitting
- 11:07Speaker 1: the Patriots, it's you. I mean, no matter what this
- 11:10Speaker 1: football team over there, that New England, they're gonna go
- 11:13Speaker 1: down swinging, aren't they. Yeah? But you know what, Dave,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and win is a win is a win is a win. Um.
- 11:18Speaker 1: We let him hang around and made it hard on
- 11:22Speaker 1: ourselves a little bit there, but got a little scary,
- 11:24Speaker 1: got a little dicey. Ultimately pulled it out though, Baby
- 11:28Speaker 1: my first win at Gilette is a visitor, so very excited.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That's that's awesome. Turnovers always always a big story in
- 11:35Speaker 1: the National Football League. Had three, they had to pick six.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But that turnover at the end of the football game,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Von Bell punches out of there, Josh Tupo falls on
- 11:43Speaker 1: top of it. Massive humongus. I mean, just a championship
- 11:47Speaker 1: level play to play here Christmas Eve in Gillette Stadium,
- 11:51Speaker 1: which with a you know, against a team that's very
- 11:53Speaker 1: dangerous and you know has had over two decades of
- 11:57Speaker 1: coming out with wins like that, Dave, So it's very
- 11:59Speaker 1: scary for me at times. There. Really glad we got
- 12:02Speaker 1: it done. I'll tell you three touchdown passes for Joe.
- 12:06Speaker 1: He had over three hundred yards passing against this defensive
- 12:09Speaker 1: football team. That's a quart of performance. I mean, the
- 12:12Speaker 1: guy's unflappable, isn't he He is. He's one of the best. Man.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I'm excited to watch a film with him on the
- 12:18Speaker 1: plane day. You're one of the best as well. You
- 12:22Speaker 1: had some finishes today, brother thrown him over the pile
- 12:25Speaker 1: big time. Well, I wanted to play my best against
- 12:28Speaker 1: my former friends. Were not former friends, they are my
- 12:30Speaker 1: friends have a lot of love and respect and admiration
- 12:32Speaker 1: for a lot of men in that locker room. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: I'm glad I bested him today, but you know we
- 12:36Speaker 1: might see him again here here to that, my man,
- 12:39Speaker 1: Thanks Ted, thank you. Ludos to Carris and the other
- 12:43Speaker 1: members of the old line. The Patriots ended the game
- 12:45Speaker 1: number three in the NFL and sacks, but only added
- 12:48Speaker 1: two to their total against the Bengals. Throughout this seven
- 12:52Speaker 1: game winning streak, the Bengals have not allowed more than
- 12:54Speaker 1: two sacks in any game. Here are the final numbers
- 12:58Speaker 1: for Joe Burrow. Going with no gloves in the bitter cold,
- 13:01Speaker 1: he went forty for fifty two. That's seventy seven percent
- 13:06Speaker 1: for three hundred and seventy five yards, with three touchdowns,
- 13:09Speaker 1: two interceptions, and a passer rating of ninety nine point four.
- 13:13Speaker 1: He's now thrown a touchdown pass in twenty two straight games.
- 13:16Speaker 1: That's a new franchise record, and with thirty four touchdown
- 13:20Speaker 1: passes this year, Joe has tied the team record that
- 13:23Speaker 1: he set last year. His favorite target was Tee Higgins
- 13:27Speaker 1: with eight catches for one hundred and twenty eight yards.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And I talked to Tea after the game. See can
- 13:34Speaker 1: you describe the emotions today? It felt at times like
- 13:38Speaker 1: the team could have been up by thirty five points,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but it ultimately came down to that big stop defensively,
- 13:44Speaker 1: who came out strong, you know, first half, second half.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say we'd relaxed because we didn't. We
- 13:49Speaker 1: just wasn't executing and you know, they was able to
- 13:52Speaker 1: you know, capital azo us not executing and um. But
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the day, our defenses
- 13:57Speaker 1: came up big with the turnover and they it off
- 14:00Speaker 1: for us one hundred and twenty eight receiving yards. For you,
- 14:03Speaker 1: it looked like they're smaller defensive backs really had trouble
- 14:07Speaker 1: with your height, your reach, and your physicality. Yeah. Man,
- 14:11Speaker 1: we knew, you know, there was a little small coming
- 14:13Speaker 1: into the game. We knew I was gonna have, you know,
- 14:15Speaker 1: some advantages, and we took those advantages and we kept
- 14:19Speaker 1: the lizes on them. So it's kind of I thought, normally,
- 14:22Speaker 1: when the weather's really cold, it's gonna rely on the
- 14:25Speaker 1: running game. You guys were winging at around. I think
- 14:27Speaker 1: Joe threw up more than fifty times. It didn't seem
- 14:30Speaker 1: like it really bothered you much. I mean, at the
- 14:32Speaker 1: end of the day, it's our job to come out
- 14:33Speaker 1: here and you know, win games and go out here
- 14:36Speaker 1: and run routes well for as a receiver, guire run
- 14:38Speaker 1: routs and no matter the conditions. And yeah, it was
- 14:42Speaker 1: it was real cold tonight today it was real cold,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but we was able to still come out here and
- 14:47Speaker 1: get a W. As a Tennessee kid, have you ever
- 14:49Speaker 1: been in anything like that in a game. This it's
- 14:52Speaker 1: crazy because you know it's about five degrees right now
- 14:54Speaker 1: back home, But this is the coda's game I played
- 14:57Speaker 1: in my entire since I've been playing football, so and
- 15:00Speaker 1: I'm glad I got a W. Seven straight wins still
- 15:03Speaker 1: in the hunt for the number one playoff seed. How
- 15:06Speaker 1: critical was this victory and the way that you pulled
- 15:08Speaker 1: it out? Very critical? Obviously you want to win, you
- 15:12Speaker 1: know they in AFC, so you know, we want to
- 15:13Speaker 1: get that w and give us another chance, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: to get the number one seed. And you just got
- 15:18Speaker 1: to keep going, to keep fighting. Where'd you think of
- 15:20Speaker 1: Trent to norwe coming through a couple of TV catches. Yeah, man, proudly,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I wish you'd caught that third one, but it is
- 15:26Speaker 1: what it is man. You know his hard work is
- 15:28Speaker 1: paying officier. Thanks Teve, Thank you. Baltimore beat the Falcons
- 15:32Speaker 1: on Saturday meeting. The Bengals remain one game ahead of
- 15:35Speaker 1: the Ravens with two to go, including a head to
- 15:38Speaker 1: head meeting in the final game of the regular season.
- 15:41Speaker 1: The Ravens host the Steelers next week. Buffalo and Kansas
- 15:46Speaker 1: City both won, so the Bengals are still one game
- 15:49Speaker 1: behind the Bills and Chiefs in the battle to be
- 15:51Speaker 1: the number one playoff seed in the AFC. The Bengals
- 15:54Speaker 1: host Buffalo next Monday night. The Chiefs host Denver next
- 15:59Speaker 1: week and play a road game at Vegas to finish
- 16:02Speaker 1: the regular season. The Bengals need Kansas City to lose
- 16:06Speaker 1: one of those games to have any chance of being
- 16:09Speaker 1: the number one seed. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought
- 16:12Speaker 1: to you by Bengals Picks and Ultimate Bengals. They're free
- 16:15Speaker 1: to play, with tickets and signed merchandise up for grabs.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Find both inside the Bengals app. Now time to hear
- 16:22Speaker 1: from head coach Zach Taylor, who spent a couple of
- 16:24Speaker 1: minutes with Lap after the game. Joe Burrow now has
- 16:29Speaker 1: won ten straight games in the month of December in January,
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's unbelievable. It's pretty impressive, you know, and Joe's in
- 16:37Speaker 1: a great job because Royn I'm done a tremendous show
- 16:39Speaker 1: as well. Again, we've got a lot of confidence as
- 16:41Speaker 1: a team. Obviously this week we didn't play a full
- 16:44Speaker 1: four quarter game on either side of the ball, but
- 16:47Speaker 1: we did enough to win m Trent and two touchdown receptions,
- 16:51Speaker 1: almost had a third. Did the New Ringland Patriots they
- 16:55Speaker 1: show you or anything, coach that you hadn't anticipated on.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's obviously noted for that. They did a good
- 17:01Speaker 1: job mixing everything up, you know. That's that's one thing
- 17:03Speaker 1: that they do well is keep your under toes and
- 17:05Speaker 1: not letting you get a beat on what coverages and
- 17:07Speaker 1: pressures you're going to get. Um. So again, they executed
- 17:10Speaker 1: very well and you know, put some pressure on us.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Three turnovers, uh, and then got one huge one at
- 17:16Speaker 1: the end of the football game. I mean, Von Bell
- 17:18Speaker 1: punches it out there, Josh Tupo recovers it. Anything um
- 17:23Speaker 1: that comes to mind. With the three turnovers, the you experience,
- 17:26Speaker 1: we just got to do a better job, you know,
- 17:28Speaker 1: making sure all eleven are on the same page, and um,
- 17:30Speaker 1: you know that's not something that's that's been an issue
- 17:33Speaker 1: with us in the past, so we'll get it corrected quickly.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So now you've you've clinched it, You've clinched the playoff spot,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and you you're now have won eleven football games, and
- 17:43Speaker 1: uh now you've got a couple of a couple of
- 17:45Speaker 1: big ones with with Buffalo and Baltimore and Baltimore I
- 17:48Speaker 1: think one today as well. So just a matter of
- 17:52Speaker 1: one and over again, right, yeah, I mean it's we
- 17:54Speaker 1: had to win this one for the next one to
- 17:55Speaker 1: be a big one. And and so again we know
- 17:58Speaker 1: that we're gonna need all hands on deck, and you
- 18:00Speaker 1: guys are going to be healthy and rested and ready
- 18:01Speaker 1: to go for money night. I expect that they will
- 18:03Speaker 1: and works out for the opportunity. Well, I appreciate your time.
- 18:07Speaker 1: That was a gutty performance. I mean it just shows
- 18:10Speaker 1: you in this league gonna play every minute of it, right,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I mean, there's no quit in any team in this
- 18:16Speaker 1: National Football League? Is there now? There's not, especially at
- 18:18Speaker 1: this point with so many games under the team spells
- 18:19Speaker 1: everyone's capable of my employees and getting back in it
- 18:22Speaker 1: in today New England did a great job of doing
- 18:24Speaker 1: that and fortunately we're able to finish it off. Congratulations,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Thank you. There was one significant injury as offensive tackle
- 18:31Speaker 1: Lael Collins was taken to the locker room on a
- 18:33Speaker 1: cart near the end of the first quarter with a
- 18:35Speaker 1: left knee injury. Akim Identity went the rest of the
- 18:38Speaker 1: way at right tackle. Ian Rappaport from the NFL Network
- 18:42Speaker 1: reports that initial tests on Else's knee found the ACL
- 18:47Speaker 1: to be intact. Ian went on to write that Lael's
- 18:51Speaker 1: kneecap shifted, causing significant pain, but then shifted back into place.
- 18:57Speaker 1: If Collins can't play against Buffalo, it will be the
- 19:00Speaker 1: first time this year that the Bengals will be missing
- 19:03Speaker 1: one of their starting offensive linemen going into a game.
- 19:07Speaker 1: The Bengals Booth podcast is presented by Alta Fiber future
- 19:10Speaker 1: proof fiber Internet capable of delivering multi gigabit speeds designed
- 19:15Speaker 1: to take your home, business, and community to a new level.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Elevate your connection with Alta Fiber. Now, time for the
- 19:22Speaker 1: radio guys recap lap of wins. A win, but man,
- 19:27Speaker 1: it felt like the Bengals could have been up by
- 19:28Speaker 1: thirty five points. Ultimately, they had to hold on in
- 19:31Speaker 1: the final minute. But I mean, at this time of year,
- 19:34Speaker 1: who cares? They got the job done? Yeah, I mean
- 19:36Speaker 1: you got You're playing against a team of a lot
- 19:38Speaker 1: of pride, you know, a coach that has had a
- 19:40Speaker 1: lot of success, and you're you're minus two in the
- 19:43Speaker 1: turnover battle on the road and fighting for your life.
- 19:46Speaker 1: You know, they're fighting for their playoff lives and you're
- 19:48Speaker 1: fighting to win another football game and uh to get
- 19:52Speaker 1: as good as seat as you possibly can. That's that's
- 19:54Speaker 1: what that's what it's it's about in the National Football League.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And like you said, a win is a win. Beggars
- 19:59Speaker 1: can't he chooses just take the w Are you at
- 20:03Speaker 1: all surprised by how they came out throwing it around
- 20:06Speaker 1: fifty two pass attempts into these conditions for Joe Burrow,
- 20:09Speaker 1: and you know, other than the pick six, he was phenomenal,
- 20:12Speaker 1: he was phenomenal. I mean that that the numbers, the
- 20:16Speaker 1: numbers are crazy, the pick six and then the interception
- 20:20Speaker 1: they had when when Joe and Jamar Chase were basically
- 20:23Speaker 1: on different pages, and then Tyler just I mean, Joe
- 20:27Speaker 1: thinks that the router is going to be run a
- 20:29Speaker 1: little bit differently, than what Tyler ends up running the route,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and so you have, you know, miscommunication things which run
- 20:34Speaker 1: crack characteristic, I think, particularly at this time of the season.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But I mean forty for fifty two, three hundred and
- 20:40Speaker 1: seventy five yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions. But yeah, it was.
- 20:46Speaker 1: It was a crazy football game. Gotta run the ball
- 20:48Speaker 1: more effective than twenty four times to seventy three yards, though,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I mean, you just gotta Joe had the nineteen yard run.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I mean, you take that nineteen yard run out of
- 20:56Speaker 1: the mix, and on twenty three carries, I mean you're
- 20:59Speaker 1: you know, you're you're looking at uh just just over
- 21:02Speaker 1: fifty yards. I mean, that's that's just not gonna not
- 21:05Speaker 1: gonna cut it two and a half less than two
- 21:07Speaker 1: and a half yards to carry. I think to get
- 21:09Speaker 1: where they want to go and and uh, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: be as high as the seat as they can in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the playoffs, and to advance in the playoffs, gonna have
- 21:16Speaker 1: to be more balanced offensive than that, for sure. What
- 21:19Speaker 1: did you think of a game at den g forced
- 21:21Speaker 1: into action at right tackle? Yeah, I thought, uh, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: gave him my alignment of the game basically on the
- 21:27Speaker 1: postgame show because I thought that he was, you know,
- 21:31Speaker 1: called in under under tough conditions and operated pretty well.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I mean, you know chet On and uh, you know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: they they've got good edge people. There's no question about it.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They get twenty five sacks coming into the football game
- 21:43Speaker 1: out of those out of those two guys alone. And
- 21:46Speaker 1: I thought that, uh, you know, the way they the
- 21:47Speaker 1: way they threw it, fifty two attempts only uh only
- 21:51Speaker 1: sacked twice. It's pretty good, pretty good day's work. One
- 21:55Speaker 1: was nullified by by penalty, but uh, I thought that
- 21:59Speaker 1: he held he held up pretty darn well. I thought
- 22:01Speaker 1: he played a pretty effective game for him. Another case
- 22:04Speaker 1: of a guy not just next man up, but next
- 22:07Speaker 1: man steps up, you know, steps up and makes makes plays,
- 22:10Speaker 1: makes things happen. So on the ricochet touchdown pass at
- 22:15Speaker 1: that point, is it in your mind, man, this is
- 22:18Speaker 1: just one of those days where bad luck is going
- 22:21Speaker 1: to turn what should be a lopsided went into a loss. Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I mean you look at it and you say, from
- 22:27Speaker 1: a football god standpoint, what they taketh away, they giveth back,
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know, And they took one away last week, um
- 22:34Speaker 1: self inflicted by the Patriots. But this one, I mean
- 22:40Speaker 1: they made a made a play and same guy, which
- 22:43Speaker 1: is ironic, same guy that made the bone head play,
- 22:45Speaker 1: put himself a good position to get the ricochet and
- 22:48Speaker 1: he was rewarded with the ricochet. They you know, as
- 22:51Speaker 1: the old saying goes, if you run to the football,
- 22:53Speaker 1: good things happen. And that's what he did. He put
- 22:55Speaker 1: himself in a position to make a play on the
- 22:58Speaker 1: ricochet and h and they've fitted fully by it. So yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's that's that's the National Football League in a nutshell. Though.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You had the opportunity to visit with Trent and Irwin
- 23:09Speaker 1: after the game. He's standing nearby as we speak and
- 23:12Speaker 1: some hot chocolate. I think what a job he's done,
- 23:15Speaker 1: stepping up when called upon to make big plays, no question.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I mean, um, you know, two huge touchdowns today. I
- 23:21Speaker 1: mean it was it was a game where not a
- 23:24Speaker 1: whole lot of points we're going to be thrown up
- 23:26Speaker 1: on the board with the weather conditions and everything. And
- 23:29Speaker 1: of course, the type of player he is, he you know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: talked about yeah that's fine too and couldn't should have
- 23:33Speaker 1: could have been, should have had the third. I gotta,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you know, do what I can to get that done.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But Trent Norwin's a great example of of a guy
- 23:40Speaker 1: that's totally prepared for every opportunity that presents itself. He's
- 23:44Speaker 1: going to make plays. He can be trusted, he can
- 23:46Speaker 1: be relied on. You get reliability, accountability, dependability, all those
- 23:50Speaker 1: great abilities, and this guy's uh, that's that defines this
- 23:54Speaker 1: young man, no question. Do you have some Freezer Bowl
- 23:56Speaker 1: flashbacks today? Uh? Honestly, I don't think I'll ever be
- 24:03Speaker 1: as cold as I was that day, and I never
- 24:05Speaker 1: want to be as cold as I was that day. Man.
- 24:08Speaker 1: But this was a this was a gut chuck, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: in that regard, There's no question. I mean it's hard.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's hard to uh, you know, to get to get
- 24:16Speaker 1: the getting lubriky, to get get all the wheels rolling,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you know, in a day like this, and um, they
- 24:22Speaker 1: do what they had to do to win the game.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Merry Christmas to you, to Lynn, to the kids and
- 24:28Speaker 1: the grand kids. Look forward to Monday Night against the
- 24:31Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills a week from Monday. Merry Christmas to you, Pagan,
- 24:34Speaker 1: Sam and your entire family as well. Then have the
- 24:36Speaker 1: best Christmas you ever had. Finally, it's time for this
- 24:40Speaker 1: week's Fun Facts Interview. Where we get to know the
- 24:43Speaker 1: person under the pads. Time for some fun facts with
- 24:47Speaker 1: tight End. Devin ASIASI from San Mateo, California, a little
- 24:51Speaker 1: bit south of San Francisco. Devin, you are of Polynesian descent.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Where's your family from? And when did they first moved
- 24:58Speaker 1: to California? So my dad is smiling and my mother
- 25:02Speaker 1: is tonguing. Um. I believe my dad came to the
- 25:05Speaker 1: States when he was ten years old. Um, so around
- 25:08Speaker 1: the eighties. My mother came around the same time, a
- 25:12Speaker 1: little bit after him, though, I believe no, I think
- 25:14Speaker 1: around the same time, around right before high school, middle school,
- 25:18Speaker 1: so around the eighties as well. So, yeah, my family
- 25:21Speaker 1: had been in the States since then. Have you ever
- 25:23Speaker 1: had a chance to visit? I have not, which is
- 25:26Speaker 1: definitely something I want to do. You know, I want
- 25:28Speaker 1: to get back and see, um obviously see my my
- 25:31Speaker 1: home homeland, you know what I'm saying, see my people,
- 25:34Speaker 1: but just going back and just paying homage to you know,
- 25:39Speaker 1: the people that came before me and the shoulders I
- 25:40Speaker 1: stand on, you know. So definitely got to go back
- 25:42Speaker 1: and visit for sure. So growing up, were you strictly
- 25:45Speaker 1: a sports kid or did you have a wide variety
- 25:48Speaker 1: of interests. Man strictly sports kids, I was just straight ball.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. So if you ask all my
- 25:55Speaker 1: family members, you know, top to bottom, probably even a
- 25:58Speaker 1: lot of my friends that I grew up with, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: sports has been just a very you know, centerpiece of
- 26:05Speaker 1: my life, you know what I'm saying growing up, and
- 26:08Speaker 1: my dad was a was a big advocate of that.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You know. UM introduced me to basketball when I was young,
- 26:13Speaker 1: about four years old. Um started playing in little leagues,
- 26:17Speaker 1: but I always played a pat ahead because athletically, I'm
- 26:21Speaker 1: not gonna lie, I was a little better, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 1: I was a little more developed, you know, and so
- 26:24Speaker 1: I just it's a testament to my dad and all
- 26:27Speaker 1: the work that he helped He put in for me
- 26:28Speaker 1: as well. And I started getting into football more interesting
- 26:32Speaker 1: in football around high school. You know. I played a
- 26:34Speaker 1: little bit and I played a pop warner and all
- 26:37Speaker 1: that growing up, but I started taking more of a
- 26:40Speaker 1: more seriously during high school time. Yeah. Were you always
- 26:44Speaker 1: bigger than kids the same age? Yeah, Yeah, that's that's
- 26:48Speaker 1: really how it kind of went. Um. It got to
- 26:51Speaker 1: the point though, when I mean I think like in
- 26:53Speaker 1: the middle school, middle school time, I was a little taller,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but then you know basketball, you know you're playing again,
- 27:00Speaker 1: guys is tall all around, you know what I'm saying.
- 27:02Speaker 1: So I really didn't start filling that confidence with football
- 27:08Speaker 1: until high school. You know, Um, I was originally a quarterback,
- 27:11Speaker 1: starting starting first, So I grew up playing QB my
- 27:14Speaker 1: whole life. And then once I got into high school,
- 27:16Speaker 1: my sophomore year, going into my sophomore years, and when
- 27:18Speaker 1: I made the trades in the tight end, and so
- 27:21Speaker 1: you know, after that first freshman year and making the
- 27:25Speaker 1: trades in the tight end, you know, that's why I
- 27:27Speaker 1: just I got my confidence. And you know, obviously I
- 27:30Speaker 1: started getting bigger, a little more stronger than everybody. So
- 27:33Speaker 1: you know, yeah, definitely that was the case. We're doing
- 27:36Speaker 1: fun facts with Devin. I see, I see you have
- 27:38Speaker 1: something in common with offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. You both
- 27:41Speaker 1: went to Dala Salle High School, perhaps the most famous
- 27:44Speaker 1: high school football program in the country. At school, the
- 27:47Speaker 1: once had a one hundred and fifty one game winning streak.
- 27:50Speaker 1: How did that prepare you for college football and the NFL?
- 27:53Speaker 1: I think at Dale, we just did we do things
- 27:56Speaker 1: a little differently as far as just trading all around
- 28:01Speaker 1: the whole year. You know, we we had like a
- 28:04Speaker 1: college college schedule when it came to workouts. You know, um,
- 28:08Speaker 1: summers is booked up. You know, obviously the season was
- 28:13Speaker 1: from September to December, but you know, our offseason wasn't
- 28:17Speaker 1: really long. You know, we had the Christmas break you
- 28:21Speaker 1: know during during high school time where we had them
- 28:23Speaker 1: Christmas breaking your New Year's break. But then a week
- 28:25Speaker 1: prior to coming back from that Christmas break, we're back
- 28:27Speaker 1: in We're back in the weight room, we're back on
- 28:30Speaker 1: the track, we're back on the field. You know, everybody's
- 28:33Speaker 1: getting back to work. And I think that's the difference
- 28:35Speaker 1: that set us apart from a lot of those other
- 28:37Speaker 1: programs is that you know, we're working year around. You know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: even when the summer comes up, like it's not it's
- 28:42Speaker 1: not optional. You want to play on that team and
- 28:44Speaker 1: you better be at be over there. It's mandatory. And
- 28:46Speaker 1: it's not just the coaches that's holding you accountable, like
- 28:49Speaker 1: those players and those guys that's playing on the team
- 28:51Speaker 1: and who's putting those hours in that in that working
- 28:53Speaker 1: every single day. They expect you to show up to
- 28:56Speaker 1: you know, what I'm saying. So it's it's just different,
- 28:58Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. When they came to day
- 29:00Speaker 1: a lot of football, and I'm gonna stand on it.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Even though you know, we haven't been doing we didn't
- 29:05Speaker 1: have a successful year this year and this past year,
- 29:08Speaker 1: but I know my guys can bounce back and you know,
- 29:10Speaker 1: do something special. So you know, it's all about that
- 29:12Speaker 1: work we put it in and that's what separated us.
- 29:14Speaker 1: So you were one of the top tight end recruits
- 29:17Speaker 1: in the country. You were one of these he could
- 29:19Speaker 1: have gone anywhere kind of kids. Did you enjoy the
- 29:22Speaker 1: attention or did you find it stressful? Both? I definitely
- 29:26Speaker 1: didn't take it for granted, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And it was definitely something I enjoyed and I made
- 29:30Speaker 1: sure that, you know, I'm not only myself, could enjoy
- 29:33Speaker 1: it by my family as well, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:34Speaker 1: So going to you know visits, official visits, taking my
- 29:38Speaker 1: mom tot Alabama. She ain't never been Alabama, you know
- 29:40Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like taking my dad to sc usc
- 29:43Speaker 1: which is which was his you know, favorite team growing up.
- 29:48Speaker 1: You know, things like the things like that, you know
- 29:50Speaker 1: what I'm saying that I could tell my kids or
- 29:53Speaker 1: even you know, my parents as well, saying that we
- 29:55Speaker 1: enjoyed that and something that we can, you know what
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm saying, can share forever. So that was the most
- 29:59Speaker 1: important thing to me, you know what I'm saying. At
- 30:01Speaker 1: the end of the day. I know, I got to
- 30:02Speaker 1: go on that field and I got to execute and
- 30:03Speaker 1: do my thing, but off the field and fucking you know,
- 30:07Speaker 1: share my experience and share some of this some of
- 30:10Speaker 1: this experience and moments with my family. That's the best
- 30:12Speaker 1: thing to me. And that's why I've always kind of
- 30:14Speaker 1: been just kind of chucked off a little bit, not
- 30:16Speaker 1: really not really like an attention is what it is.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You know, we're visiting the Devin, I see, I see.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I've read you were the first person in your family
- 30:23Speaker 1: to go to college. What does that mean to you?
- 30:25Speaker 1: What could it mean to your parents? First person on
- 30:27Speaker 1: my mother's side to go to a division one um college. Man,
- 30:32Speaker 1: it's just for me, It's all about the next, the
- 30:35Speaker 1: next next up, you know, and being able to show
- 30:39Speaker 1: my um the youth and my younger siblings, my young
- 30:43Speaker 1: younger cousins. You know, I got a lot you know,
- 30:45Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So a lot of people kind of
- 30:47Speaker 1: looking up to me. So you know, I take that
- 30:49Speaker 1: serious and I take it to heart, and you know,
- 30:51Speaker 1: being able to show them. You know, you can graduate,
- 30:53Speaker 1: you know, graduate high school, you can go to a
- 30:55Speaker 1: college if you want to. You know, you can pursue
- 30:58Speaker 1: whatever you want in life, you know what I'm saying,
- 31:00Speaker 1: whatever gym that you want, you know, don't let anybody
- 31:02Speaker 1: stop it from from doing that. That's that's my biggest
- 31:06Speaker 1: you know. Um, I think that's what I love most
- 31:09Speaker 1: about it, you know, just because I get to show
- 31:11Speaker 1: those kids, show my my my younger, younger generation, that
- 31:15Speaker 1: there's more to do, and there's more to life, you know,
- 31:16Speaker 1: and that you can do whatever you want to do
- 31:18Speaker 1: in life, you know, And that's what I did. I
- 31:19Speaker 1: want to play football, I want to do sports, That's
- 31:22Speaker 1: what it is. If you want to go do music,
- 31:23Speaker 1: if you want to go do art, whatever you want
- 31:25Speaker 1: to pursue in life, you know, go and do it.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You know. So you started out of Michigan, you finished
- 31:30Speaker 1: up at UCLA White Michigan initially, and why did you
- 31:33Speaker 1: transfer back to California Michigan Initially? Because I enjoyed my
- 31:38Speaker 1: time on my official visit over there, you know, and
- 31:40Speaker 1: I liked what coach Hardball was doing with a lot
- 31:43Speaker 1: of tight ends that he had over there, and M
- 31:45Speaker 1: Jake but was a good friend of mine, and you know,
- 31:48Speaker 1: he had a he hosted me for that visit, and
- 31:50Speaker 1: it was a it was a it was a dope visit.
- 31:52Speaker 1: You know. I got to meet him, got to see
- 31:53Speaker 1: the guys and see how the camaraderie was and see
- 31:56Speaker 1: how you know, everybody operates. And so I think I
- 31:59Speaker 1: was kind of sold that, you know what, I wanted
- 32:00Speaker 1: to be a part of that, and so I did
- 32:02Speaker 1: went over there. I enjoyed my time. You know, it's
- 32:05Speaker 1: my first first year and um in college and in
- 32:10Speaker 1: uh and that in that conference too, and that conference
- 32:12Speaker 1: is a big conference, you know, and playing and playing
- 32:14Speaker 1: in that playing in those arenas, playing in those stadiums
- 32:17Speaker 1: definitely changed, you know, O West Coast kids perspective on football,
- 32:21Speaker 1: you know. So um but to be honest, it was
- 32:24Speaker 1: just um more soldiers family. Man. I couldn't I couldn't
- 32:27Speaker 1: get a nude of my family back to see my games.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And it's like, yeah, I know on a TV screen
- 32:31Speaker 1: is all good and dandy. But you know what I'm saying.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I want to be able to look in the stands
- 32:35Speaker 1: and see my see my little brothers, and see my
- 32:37Speaker 1: little you know, my my dad and my my mama,
- 32:40Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, and see my cousins or
- 32:41Speaker 1: whoever whoever wanted to come to the game, and just
- 32:44Speaker 1: like I said before, just being able to experience those
- 32:47Speaker 1: type of things, you know. So you know, I made
- 32:49Speaker 1: a decision to take it back to the West Coast
- 32:51Speaker 1: and go to UCLA. But you know, I enjoyed it,
- 32:54Speaker 1: you know, I don't. I don't regret my decision because
- 32:56Speaker 1: my my family was able to come down and enjoy
- 32:58Speaker 1: those times. I mean, and those are those you know,
- 33:00Speaker 1: moments that for me, it's gonna stick with me forever.
- 33:03Speaker 1: You were selected in the twenty twenty draft in the
- 33:05Speaker 1: third round by the New England Patriots. Describe your draft experience. Oh, man,
- 33:09Speaker 1: um crazy, you know. Um. It was obviously during the
- 33:13Speaker 1: COVID um COVID year, so we didn't nobody can go
- 33:17Speaker 1: to the Las Vegas um what's it called event and
- 33:20Speaker 1: everything obviously, but I wasn't going to go or anyways,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, because I kind of already
- 33:25Speaker 1: had my plans set up since I was a kid.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I've always to the plan set up where I was
- 33:29Speaker 1: going to go back home, go to my grandma house,
- 33:31Speaker 1: go to the backyard. You know what I'm saying, have
- 33:33Speaker 1: all my friends, have all my my siblings, cousins, family,
- 33:37Speaker 1: everybody there that I've known since I was a kid
- 33:39Speaker 1: over there and would be all in the backyard and
- 33:42Speaker 1: being able to watch that and you know, and see
- 33:44Speaker 1: that come to life, and then being able to see
- 33:46Speaker 1: that for real, it's like, that's one of the most
- 33:48Speaker 1: special moments I'll ever and it's like to that to
- 33:51Speaker 1: this day, that that memory is ingrained in my mind forever,
- 33:55Speaker 1: because in my heart because it's just you know, being
- 33:58Speaker 1: able to bring that type of energy and that type
- 34:01Speaker 1: of life to you know, my neighborhood and my family
- 34:05Speaker 1: and being able to see them witness and experience and
- 34:08Speaker 1: that that type of that type of thing, you know,
- 34:11Speaker 1: and seeing seeing the NFL draft right in front of you.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It's like not many people get to experience that. And
- 34:16Speaker 1: like I said before, it's all about for me, it's
- 34:18Speaker 1: all about the young ones coming up. So it's like
- 34:20Speaker 1: the fact that they get to see that and get
- 34:22Speaker 1: to tell you know, their friends and tell, you know
- 34:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying, their kids one day and hopefully use
- 34:27Speaker 1: that to drive them and motivate them to go, you know,
- 34:30Speaker 1: pursue whatever dream that they want. You know, that's the
- 34:32Speaker 1: biggest thing for me, you know what I'm saying. So
- 34:34Speaker 1: and then seeing my mama, seeing my dad's team, all
- 34:36Speaker 1: my you know what I'm saying, my parents and all
- 34:38Speaker 1: those people that helped me, you know, get to where
- 34:40Speaker 1: I get to that that moment. You know, it's just
- 34:44Speaker 1: a very you know, special moment for me. So that's
- 34:46Speaker 1: very big moment for me. For sure. We're doing fun
- 34:49Speaker 1: facts with Devin. I c I see many years from
- 34:52Speaker 1: now you'll tell your grandkids you played for one of
- 34:54Speaker 1: the most legendary coaches in sports history, not just football history,
- 34:58Speaker 1: sports history, Bill Belichick. How do you describe Coach Belichick?
- 35:02Speaker 1: Straight to the point, blunt, um, real um, and yeah,
- 35:08Speaker 1: just a real honest man and a person who also
- 35:11Speaker 1: you know, loves the sport of football, you know, and
- 35:14Speaker 1: takes every precaution, everything serious, to the to the to
- 35:18Speaker 1: the nitty gritty, to the to the nuts and bolts
- 35:19Speaker 1: of everything you know, and That's one thing I've I've
- 35:22Speaker 1: I learned to respect and I learned to um also
- 35:26Speaker 1: just kind of a part to my life in a
- 35:28Speaker 1: way too, as much as I can, you know, and
- 35:31Speaker 1: seeing how preparation can can really benefit you and help you,
- 35:36Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Obviously, and in games and
- 35:38Speaker 1: things like that, but just in life in general, you
- 35:40Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, Charles Belichick is one of
- 35:42Speaker 1: the Religi dudes, I don't know for sure, and you know,
- 35:44Speaker 1: he's always gonna keep it blood wich. He's only always
- 35:46Speaker 1: gonna be honest. But you gotta respect that, you know,
- 35:49Speaker 1: and I gotta love respect from the man as well.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Your first NFL touchdown catch came in the final game
- 35:54Speaker 1: of your rookie year, a fourth quarter game winner against
- 35:58Speaker 1: the New York Jets. What do you remember, by the
- 36:00Speaker 1: black Obviously, when you're in those situations and you hear
- 36:03Speaker 1: that played called, you know your number is called, you
- 36:05Speaker 1: know you gotta you gotta go out there and execute.
- 36:07Speaker 1: So it was just, you know, it was it kind
- 36:09Speaker 1: of just happened fast, you know, and I was like,
- 36:11Speaker 1: we got the ball. It was turnover. I believe jac
- 36:16Speaker 1: Jackson or I think Jac or or Kyle Degger either
- 36:19Speaker 1: got an interception or a fumble. So it was like
- 36:22Speaker 1: quick turnaround. We were at the Friends, so we were
- 36:25Speaker 1: just inside the fifty and so he called the play
- 36:28Speaker 1: and I was like, okay, this is that shot. This
- 36:30Speaker 1: is a shot to you know what I'm saying that,
- 36:32Speaker 1: and we kind of rerepped in practicing everything. So what
- 36:35Speaker 1: was it happened. It happened when out there did my
- 36:37Speaker 1: best execute and then you know, got got the double,
- 36:39Speaker 1: got the touchdown, and you know what I'm saying, It
- 36:41Speaker 1: was history after that, you know, and so it was
- 36:43Speaker 1: it was it was dope too, you know, it was
- 36:45Speaker 1: it was a special moment for me. You know, my
- 36:47Speaker 1: family was there too, My mom was there, and so
- 36:49Speaker 1: I was able to, you know, give her that ball
- 36:51Speaker 1: and share that home with her. So it was a
- 36:53Speaker 1: special moment for sure. So this year, you went through
- 36:56Speaker 1: your third training camp with the Patriots. At the end
- 36:58Speaker 1: of camp, you were put on a way as I
- 37:00Speaker 1: imagine they were going to try to put you on
- 37:02Speaker 1: the practice squad, but the Bengal swooped in and made
- 37:05Speaker 1: a claim and just like that, before the start of
- 37:08Speaker 1: the season. It's a whirlwind. You wind up with another team.
- 37:11Speaker 1: How difficult is that? That's a crazy twenty four or
- 37:14Speaker 1: four day hours. Sure, I want to say it was
- 37:17Speaker 1: too difficult. I mean, you know, I just thanks to
- 37:21Speaker 1: all the coaching staff and all the staff here, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 1: making that transition as easy as possible, you know. Um,
- 37:29Speaker 1: But you know, it's it's just like anything, you know,
- 37:32Speaker 1: you just gotta adapt and you gotta you gotta overcome,
- 37:35Speaker 1: and then you gotta figure out a way, you know.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And so that's my mind quickly switched into you know,
- 37:41Speaker 1: it's like it's another opportunity. It's another chance to you know,
- 37:44Speaker 1: go out there and touch grass, you know, again every week.
- 37:48Speaker 1: So for me, it was you know, obviously it was
- 37:51Speaker 1: difficult in terms of just figuring everything out and get
- 37:55Speaker 1: in through it. But at the end of the day,
- 37:57Speaker 1: you know, I could have been you know, more happy,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you know by the situation, I mean, and grateful for
- 38:03Speaker 1: the situation, I mean, you know, and you know, I
- 38:06Speaker 1: just I think I think the coaches all the time
- 38:08Speaker 1: for the opportunity and you know, and so you know,
- 38:12Speaker 1: it's been a it's been a fun time, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 1: and I'm enjoying the guys around here, and you know,
- 38:16Speaker 1: growing with them and learning with them, and I look
- 38:19Speaker 1: forward to, you know, doing more of that in the future.
- 38:22Speaker 1: A few wild card topics now for tight end Devin,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I c I see who is your all time favorite
- 38:27Speaker 1: athlete in any sport and why Kobe Bryant was always
- 38:33Speaker 1: just my idol growing up. I'm a Lakers fan. Now
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'm from the Bay Area, you know, I saw I'm
- 38:40Speaker 1: gonna get a little little flat for that. But my
- 38:43Speaker 1: dad from La you know, he when he came first
- 38:46Speaker 1: came to the Islands, he was born, he went to
- 38:49Speaker 1: La Long Beach area and all that, all those areas.
- 38:52Speaker 1: So I do have a reason why I am a
- 38:55Speaker 1: Lakers fan. You know, it's just not just out you
- 38:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying out the blue. But yeah, Kobe
- 39:00Speaker 1: Bryant for sure is one of my is probably at
- 39:03Speaker 1: the top, you know, r P the Mamba. But um,
- 39:06Speaker 1: just growing up, I mean I watched Lakers games like
- 39:09Speaker 1: all the time, me and my dad, you know, sitting
- 39:11Speaker 1: there watching him, watching him and Shack you know, tear
- 39:14Speaker 1: it up. And then you know, obviously Shack leaving going
- 39:17Speaker 1: to I forgot where he was Miami or wherever he
- 39:19Speaker 1: went to that for that, you know, and then seeing
- 39:21Speaker 1: you know, Kobe having to you know, basically rebuild the
- 39:26Speaker 1: whole team, and then seeing him getting power Gasol, you know,
- 39:29Speaker 1: Lamar old him, Andrew behind him, you know, all these
- 39:33Speaker 1: you know, different type of guys, all these these these
- 39:36Speaker 1: new guys for me, where I was like, man, I'm like,
- 39:38Speaker 1: I'm so used to you know, Shack and us dominating,
- 39:41Speaker 1: the two men, the duo dominating. You know, I didn't
- 39:45Speaker 1: see what he was doing. But then it's like once
- 39:47Speaker 1: you just you you sit back and you see that story.
- 39:49Speaker 1: You know, he willed, he pulled. Power Gasol came from
- 39:53Speaker 1: you know, wherever he came from. But Powergaso he made
- 39:55Speaker 1: him a dog, you know, like he made him a
- 39:57Speaker 1: different animal at the end of the day. You know,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I'm saying, like, you gotta be a real special person
- 40:02Speaker 1: to pull that type of you know what I'm saying,
- 40:04Speaker 1: grid out of a person, you know what I'm saying.
- 40:06Speaker 1: So it's just something I've always looked up to it
- 40:08Speaker 1: and he's just been lak I'm a Laker fan, Man,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I love Kobe being ryant. Like that's just to us,
- 40:12Speaker 1: that's that's my MJ. Like, I don't want to hear
- 40:15Speaker 1: no Kobe Lebron MJ No, Kobe's You've made your case.
- 40:23Speaker 1: What do you like to spend your money on? Man? Food, clothes? Definitely, Like,
- 40:30Speaker 1: of course I gotta. I got bills to pay and
- 40:32Speaker 1: everything like that. But then you know, I like, I
- 40:35Speaker 1: do like spending my money on my on my siblings,
- 40:38Speaker 1: to be honest, like I like giving that to them.
- 40:42Speaker 1: For some reason. It's like for me being an older brother,
- 40:46Speaker 1: I always tell them this too. It's like until I
- 40:48Speaker 1: have my kids, y'all my kids, and it's just for
- 40:51Speaker 1: me being a big brother. I always want my my
- 40:53Speaker 1: young siblings to you know what I'm saying, not have
- 40:56Speaker 1: any worries, you know what I'm saying, or not have
- 40:58Speaker 1: any anything to worry about, or you know, if they
- 41:01Speaker 1: like clothes, I'm gonna get them some clothes. They liked
- 41:03Speaker 1: some some shoes, I'm gonna get them some shoes. Things
- 41:05Speaker 1: that I didn't have growing up. I couldn't just asked
- 41:07Speaker 1: my dad. You know, I'm syna get some shoo what
- 41:08Speaker 1: there's a lot of money now that I'm able to
- 41:11Speaker 1: do that and have the opportunity to that, obviously I'm not.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I don't want to spoil them by the same time,
- 41:14Speaker 1: I do you know what I'm saying. It's like my
- 41:17Speaker 1: younger simlers, bro Like, you know, I want to take
- 41:19Speaker 1: care of them, make sure that they know that regardless
- 41:21Speaker 1: of anything, that they their brother got their back. They oh,
- 41:24Speaker 1: and he'll always be there, you know. So that's for
- 41:26Speaker 1: me food, my clothes, or my girlfriend and then my
- 41:30Speaker 1: similar pictures. So yeah, all right, final fun fact, if
- 41:35Speaker 1: you could meet anybody in history, who would that person be?
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna do three. I'm gonna I'm gonna say both
- 41:45Speaker 1: my grandfathers because I would just like to know, you know,
- 41:52Speaker 1: the history of me through their through their mind, through
- 41:54Speaker 1: their through their eyes, through their perspective, and then just
- 41:58Speaker 1: you know, get getting that information. And I felt like
- 42:01Speaker 1: just knowing yet the history of your family, it's a
- 42:03Speaker 1: very important thing. So I definitely would do my two grandparents,
- 42:07Speaker 1: my Grandpam on both sides of my family, my dad
- 42:10Speaker 1: and my mom's side. And I would have to say
- 42:15Speaker 1: Bob Marley. Yeah, rega reggae was was was the main
- 42:22Speaker 1: um genre music in our household. So you know, I
- 42:27Speaker 1: grew up Uncle Bob, like I know all the words
- 42:30Speaker 1: every song. It's like it's just I mean I'm not
- 42:32Speaker 1: gonna lie, Like if you ask a lot of policies,
- 42:34Speaker 1: like every one of them would know like a lot
- 42:37Speaker 1: of a lot of Bob songs, So I would just lie.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Love to just pick his brain, you know, and just
- 42:45Speaker 1: see where all that um wisdom and knowledge comes from,
- 42:50Speaker 1: you know, and just seeing how I can apply that
- 42:52Speaker 1: to my life and in a way because you always
- 42:54Speaker 1: see him in interviews and you see him how he
- 42:56Speaker 1: talks and how he speaks, and it's always from the heart,
- 43:00Speaker 1: but you can always see that it carries a lot
- 43:03Speaker 1: of weights, you know, and something that everybody can apply
- 43:06Speaker 1: to their life, you know. So definitely in those three
- 43:09Speaker 1: right there, for sure, this has been great. I really
- 43:12Speaker 1: appreciate your time, best of luck the rest of the year,
- 43:14Speaker 1: Appreciate the bust. Thank you. That's going to do it
