- 0:15SPEAKER_00: In this podcast, we'll be discussing the medical accuracy and mental health themes of our favorite horror movies.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Garnet is a mental health professional and Katia is a physician assistant.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And today we have a special guest, Vic, host of podcast Comic Books Beyond, and fellow horror lover.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Say hi Vic.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Together we'll educate the shit out of some great, not so great horror movies.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: And remember, kids, well, adults, kids shouldn't be listening to this, actually.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Remember everyone, this podcast is not meant for individual medical or mental health advice.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: This is for entertainment purposes only.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: So don't be using us as your WebMD or your psychology today reference.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: This is just for funsies.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: So today we're here to talk about Halloween.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Talking about Halloween just in time for Halloween.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So was there uh a lot less killing than everybody else remembered?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: I thought this had a higher body count, but now I'm kind of remembering there's another I think uh the one with Kevin Bacon and the chainsaw, or no, the talkie mask, not really the hockey mask.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: Friday the 13th.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: Uh the first one I think was done as a response to low kills in this one.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Makes sense.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just a lot of suspense waiting.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: One thing uh that came up to me in the movie was how did Michael know how to drive?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: He was institutionalized for his entire life.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I I watched that and I was like, Why?
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Like he was good.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: He I didn't see him hit a curb, I didn't see him mow anyone down.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: That could have been his first kill, and see him hit a stop sign.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: But then again, if we had a killer who was just getting into you know little fender benders and hopping the curb, he'd probably be a little less scary and that would take away the creep vibe.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: Dr.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: Loomis said, what was it?
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Um uh some maybe someone was giving him lessons, and maybe they were.
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: And the same token, is it really that hard to drive a car?
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Like you see somebody do it once, and if you don't care about other people's, like if you don't care about your own safety or other people's, it's not that hard to figure out.
- 2:37SPEAKER_04: Driving safely is a lot different than driving.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But he stalks people in that car pretty decently, I think.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: You've seen me drive a car.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I don't I couldn't learn that on the fly, and I mean I've failed my driver's test before, but hey.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Who hasn't?
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And especially like if you're looking at something, you're gonna go towards it naturally.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: That's why I can't look to my side when I'm driving, or I feel like I'm gonna drive us off a cliff.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Sometimes just when you're driving, you talk about driving us off the what is it, the Delaware water gap or whatever the fuck we were driving over and you were told.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: That was the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Yep, we're driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, just saying, oh yeah, I just I have called to the void.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: I'm thinking about driving this right off as I'm in the passenger seat, like getting ready to tuck and roll, but like romantic.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Well, and I learned later that was probably an intrusive thought from OCD.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Remember the one time you were driving us and you almost drove us into like the wrong way in the highway?
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Was that an intrusive thought, or was that just like no, that was just an accident.
- 3:48unknown: Okay.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: What the hell?
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: When was this?
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, when we first went to go visit Warren Garrett.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: But I genuinely don't remember that.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: I mean, I do remember there was one time in East Stradsburg I turned almost into oncoming traffic once because that was not a very clearly marked street, but I figured it out real quick.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Rachel actually almost killed us on the morning of my wedding.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: She almost just like she just turned as this guy kept coming straight towards us.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: I'm like, whoa, what a way to start off today.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Good times.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Were you thrown off, Vic, by how early they trick-or-treated in the movie?
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: Honestly, not really.
- 4:27SPEAKER_04: This was kind of par for the course when I was in high school, or whenever you trick-or-treated.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: Like I saw kids like the second they got out of school trick-or-treating.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: When I was like trick-or-treating age, which we stopped trick-or-treating when I was 11, I want to say.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: Uh we would go like it's at dark.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: That's when we would go.
- 4:49SPEAKER_04: But a lot of towns like had rules about not being out after dark and or starting before dark and stuff.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: So in my town, we definitely started after dark.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: You waited till it got dark to go out.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: We went right after school immediately.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Us and a million other kids in our small townhouse like community in New York.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say, how does trick-or-treating work in Staten Island?
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: You just like pick a hotel and or an apartment building and just walk around, knock on the doors.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: So I can't like speak for every Staten Islander, but um they were all townhouses and they were like really close together.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: So you could like hit up a lot of places in a short period of time, actually.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Like a lot of townhouse communities.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I remember getting a ton of stuff as a kid, and then as a teen, and then eventually I stopped, of course, as one should at 15.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: You stopped at 15.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: Well, I think I honestly don't remember.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: When did you stop trick-or-treating, Cody?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: The last time I can remember going was when what when Dylan was little, but that's when we took him for me myself.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I was probably like 13.
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: So my mom just cut me off early.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: That's no fun.
- 6:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it it is what it is.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: So let's uh talk about this one.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, was this uh indicative of anyone's high school Halloween?
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Because this wasn't uh how my high school Halloween worked.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I never got laid on a Halloween in high school, so no.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: No.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: We mostly, I mean, I didn't do anything cool in high school.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: We usually just like sat inside and watched movies.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Same the ring one year, I remember.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, mostly I just watched movies with my like one friend in during Halloween.
- 6:39SPEAKER_04: So that's Halloween of either sophomore or junior year of high school is when I like really started doing my Halloween tradition of going to the liquidation store, buying a shitload of candy, and going back to watch um Halloween at my house.
- 6:58SPEAKER_04: Like we watch all those movies like pretty much every year.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I guess we're all a bunch of lorries.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we are.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: More or less.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: One of us might be a Michael.
- 7:09SPEAKER_04: I never stabbed anybody with a wire hanger, but I kind of want to now.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm not going to, but like if I'm ever in a position where I'm like at knife point and I have a wire hanger, you bet your ass I'm wire hangering someone in the eye.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: So we have some trigger warnings.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Violence, nudity, brief mentions of pedophilia, and animal deaths.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Is nudity even a trigger warning?
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: I guess it's not a trigger warning, but okay.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Explicit content warning, awareness.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: I'm just wondering.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: Like there how many boobs do we actually see in this movie?
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Six.
- 7:47unknown: I think.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: I don't even think it was six.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: I thought it was four.
- 7:50SPEAKER_04: So there's two in the beginning.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: There was the two with that girl and Bob.
- 7:55SPEAKER_04: I don't think we see the other girl's boobs, and we definitely don't see Jimmy Lee Curtis's.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: No.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I can't count, so ignore what I say about counting.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: So the movie starts with Michael offing his sister and getting institutionalized.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, what do you do guys think about the initial kill?
- 8:15SPEAKER_04: Okay, can I jump in here real quick and then I'm gonna shut up for a while?
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: No.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: So I timed this.
- 8:21SPEAKER_04: This dude, between the words, hey, let's go upstairs to the um walking down the stairs, putting the shirt on, it is a completely unbroken shot.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: And there's one minute and 20 seconds between, hey, let's go upstairs and I gotta go.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: So the stripping down the um the the presumable somewhat of an act and the getting back together and you know, no aftercare, nothing.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Like, like that's gotta be a record for PE.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: So can we talk about that for a minute?
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: Like, there's I'm getting to an age where I've gotta be very careful about how things go.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I'm fine, but by PE you mean premature ejaculation, correct?
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: Yes, bam.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: So why don't we talk about this?
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: Like this this dude t needs help.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Blue pill, right?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Uh no, that's to m get an erection.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: This guy seems like he could get an erection, but it was just ending too quickly.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: There's apparently two types of premature ejaculation: there's lifelong premature ejaculation or acquired premature ejaculation.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Did not know that you could have both.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: How does one acquire it?
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Is it like a disease?
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: It means that you never had it, and then all of a sudden you just get it one day.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Most of them tend to be psychological in nature.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Uh performance anxiety.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Sometimes acquired is usually psych.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Uh if you have it for lifelong, it's usually a problem in your serotonergic system, and some of the other neurotransmitters might not be functioning correctly.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: So to treat it, you actually usually use off-label SSRIs.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: In general.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: Why off-label?
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: Why off label?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Well, it just means when we say something's off-label, it means it's not actually like the FDA didn't clear you to use this for this, but there have been studies that show that it's useful.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: But that's what off-label means.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: But premature ejaculation.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know why you are so surprised.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I think we I said this during it.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, did you not remember American Pie?
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: I did, but even um American Pie, uh, I don't know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: You're you're probably right.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: But this I felt bad for that girl for many reasons.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: It sat out right before she was killed.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: That was her experience.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Sad.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Um, so she was killed, and then we it jumps forward to us meeting Dr.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Loomis and her nurse who are going to the hospital to supervise Michael's moving.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Shocker, Loomis says he hopes Michael never gets out.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Then in two seconds, Michael got out.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: As the nurse chain smokes like a chimney.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: I liked her.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Too bad that she dies pretty fast.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Did she die?
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Or she's like taken.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: No?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: I thought she dies like all I don't think so.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: It wasn't actually listed.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: I I checked um dead meat kill count and it she wasn't listed.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she just got a new job somewhere else.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: A life change.
- 11:38SPEAKER_04: I mean, I wouldn't stick around after that old debacle.
- 11:41unknown: Yeah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: We're then introduced to Lori, who stopped by Michael's house to drop off some keys.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Michael sets his sight on her, stalking her at school.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Do do do do do do do do do do.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Uh the music sound scores great.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: I just sorry.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: I'll stop talking.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Classic.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: You're fine.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Uh Dr.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Loomis warns Michael is on his way home to Haddonfield, and then dis and then Dr.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Loomis discovers clues, clothes, and a body to reinforce his theory that Michael's on his way to Haddonfield.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: I just want to point out how Loomis is like, there's a dead dog.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: He must have gone hungry.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: So he's just out here eating dogs.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Just raw, just eating them.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: That I think is the true, true horror of this movie.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't how do you eat your dog?
- 12:28SPEAKER_04: I've I've never personally had dog myself, at least not to my knowledge, but if uh if I did, I don't know, is it like a nice dog tartar or yeah?
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, is he just raw dogging the dog?
- 12:40SPEAKER_04: That's what it seems like.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Nah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Riley's start.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Michael then stalks Lori some more.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Do do do do do do do do do Dr.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Loomis finds that Michael's sister's headstone is missing.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: It's it flashes back between Dr.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Loomis and Lori all the time, like constantly.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: To the point I was like, maybe we need to like just follow one of them for a while, but nah.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: I just gotta throw this out there.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: The headstone's missing.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: I've never lifted a headstone, but I've listed lifted stones in strongman.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: It ain't easy.
- 13:20SPEAKER_04: Michael's gotta have some freaking strength on the dude.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm pretty sure that's definitely a a truth.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: Oh, go ahead.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: So you think like all the time he spent not talking and somehow learning how to drive, he was probably just doing crazy calisthenics and push-ups like every minute of every day.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: That's what I think.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: The best I could tell here, and uh my theory, if I if I was trying to get strong in you know a mental institution where presumably they don't let you have weights because it was the 70s and they know you would beat each other to death with it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: He was probably in his room, and he was probably doing Zertry squats with his entire bed frame, just picking the whole bed up, holding it to his chest, and doing squats with it.
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: That's the only way, only way I could think you could build that kind of strength.
- 14:08SPEAKER_04: And even that I think is pretty damn far-fetched.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Most beds in mental institutions are like already secured to the floor, like you wouldn't be able to move them.
- 14:17SPEAKER_04: Well, maybe you practice ripping it off the floor.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: 1970s logic.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Michael continues to stalk Lori more and follows her to the house she's babysitting at while Dr.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Loomis lays in wait for Michael at the Myers house.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Michael stalks them more, and there are two dog deaths in a tie in a five-minute time frame, which horrible for me.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: I just I don't understand why from when I kept seeing Lori look back and see Michael and catch glimpses why she didn't just call the cops after a while.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Like, hey, there's this dude dead staring me with this weird mask.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Just keeps happening.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't think anything would happen if you do it today.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: So imagine it being in the 70s.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: They'll just be like, Well, there's no crime being committed.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Like in most states, you're allowed to like sit there with a video camera and video somebody.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: So that's true.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Now you mentioned have you guys ever seen Greta?
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: That's like another like horror threat war movie.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: You asked me about that the other day.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: It's on my watch list.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: I haven't seen it yet, no.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I haven't seen it.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: It's like a minor spoiler, but like she's being stalked by this unhinged older woman, and she's just standing across the street staring at her at her place of employment, like all day and all night, and the cops are like, We can't do anything.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Like, technically, she's across the street.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: So yeah, now that you guys mention it, maybe things really haven't changed.
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: They definitely have.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, they they've chained, they've gotten different, not better.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: But honestly, if uh if someone's staring at you, you know there's nothing the cops can do, they might say, go away, but that's that's it.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Lori should have just started acting more and hinge than him.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe it would have scared him off, screaming, growling.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Just kidding, that wouldn't have worked.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: He's a crazy killer.
- 16:02SPEAKER_04: Well, isn't that actually like a real-world survival technique where if you feel like you are being stuck to just like be as weird as possible or something?
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: I've heard that before.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've I have to.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Be weird, be you.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Then Michael starts to stalk awful friend number one Linda.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Like, I cannot uh underestimate how or overstate how annoying and awful her friends are in this movie.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Whatever made you feel like that.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: They just like make fun of Lori to her face all the time, and not in a way where it looks like Lori's in on the joke.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: They're just all out there trying to get their dick wet, and I don't care who they uh mow down in their way.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: And then the stalking of Linda leads to her death.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, awful friend, not Linda.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: What was the other friend's name?
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: I forget her name.
- 16:51SPEAKER_04: Was it Annie?
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Annie, yes.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: Annie was awful friend, Linda was not awful friend.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're both kind of awful.
- 16:59SPEAKER_04: Annie didn't seem that bad.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Friend A and friend B.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: Friend A and friend L.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: So it's I think Annie's the first friend that we're watching, right?
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: The one with the laundry.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Andre yeah, Annie was laundry.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: That's correct.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: She's the one that's also babysitting another child.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Those poor kids.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: Yep, Annie's the one who has darker hair.
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: Linda, or was it was it Linda was the other one, girl's name?
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: The blonde lady.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Annie brings over the kid she's babysitting and just drops him off at Lori's house, expecting her to do all the work while she goes and, as Garnet says, tries to get her dick wet.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: I mean, was it just common to just drop your babysitting charges off somewhere else to go get banged?
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: I was never really a babysitter.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: Me either.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: I could never imagine Garnet babysitting someone now, let alone when you were like 17.
- 17:59SPEAKER_04: I feel like the the child would be like, can we watch horror movies?
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, let's throw in the terrifier franchise.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Not the problem now, parents.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Not the terrifier, because I don't like that franchise, but yeah, whatever.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, I got exposed to that stuff when I was seven.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Look how I turned out.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Successful.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Super successful.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: No issues whatsoever.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: What's this joke?
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: This off-color pedophile joke.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: So when the other friend, actual Linda, tries to sneak into the house Annie was babysitting at, the boyfriend makes a joke.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: It's she's like, oh.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Do you remember exactly what it is, Vic?
- 18:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he said something to the effect of, oh, I know what we're gonna do.
- 18:47SPEAKER_04: First I'll tear your clothes off, then you'll tear my clothes off.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Then we'll tear Lindsay's clothes off.
- 18:53SPEAKER_04: And whenever I was watching this movie earlier, I mixed up Lindsay and Annie.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: That's so I thought they were saying they're gonna initiate a threesome.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: I hope it was just a misspeaking in the line, because the person he said was the little girl that Annie dropped off.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Oh my ew! I didn't catch that.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: So I only know because I heard like one or two podcasts like mention that.
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: Like they caught it, and I was like, wait, there's no what the f even for the 70s, that's too bad.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: That's disgusting.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: I caught it and I like looked at Vic and I'm like, is that what he said?
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was just unappealing.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Good thing we had Michael there to kill him then.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Michael creeps on them while they're having sex, and then they're swiftly dispatched with Lori on the phone during Annie's murder as she was strangled by the phone cord.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Loomis then finds Michael's car and is hot on his trail.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Lori starts to look for her friends and she finds her awful friends murdered with her sister with uh Michael's sister's headstone just randomly.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: So not only did he steal it, he then carried it to a random house to set up a murder shrine.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: That's dedication.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: That's like a 200-pound headstone, easily.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: And uh yeah, homeboy carried that up to up a flight of stairs.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: And also, how did no one notice this one?
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: That's that's I mean, it's Halloween, so maybe they thought it was like some kind of weird like WWE wet wrestling outfit, like a proto version of The Undertaker, I guess.
- 20:35SPEAKER_04: But uh, I I wonder just like how strong the dude was just walking around.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: Was he just like one-handed the damn thing?
- 20:40SPEAKER_04: Jesus.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: It's wild of him.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: We get that shot in the movie where Lori is hiding and Michael's right around the corner.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: That's probably like the most famous shot in the Halloween franchise.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Lori's looking for help, runs back to the initial house, and Michael stocks for some more.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Lori then does my favorite final girl act and takes a knitting needle and stabs Michael with it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: That was that's just my favorite thing any final girl ever does.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Sure why.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Maybe about how resourceful she is, because I thought it was pretty badass.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: Is it because you sit and crochet a lot?
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: And if you just had a crochet hook, you could just pop something real quick.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, not with crochet hooks.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Knitting needles are actually sharp.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Not sharp, but they have a point to them.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Probably use a crochet thing if you had to.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: I guess if I like went for the eyes.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Or the nose.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Looness is closing in.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Surprisingly, Michael was not dead from the knitting needle.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Lori again attempts to murder him while she's hiding in the closet.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: And I believe that's the wire hanger that Vic was referring to earlier.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: And shocker, he's still not dead.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Loomis just happens to be right outside the house while the kids Lori's watching come screaming out, and he then shoots Michael five times.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Which Apparently in the next movie, he's very adamant that he shot him six times.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: I shot him six times.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: No, you missed.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: He he didn't fire off a full load.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: He still had one man.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: That's what she said.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: To the guy with the PE.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: And then of course we get the ending where he falls out the window, you see him, and then they turn away, and then you turn back and oh gosh, he's not there.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: And we think we see his POV from the Myers house.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: So my medical realism this episode, I'm just gonna talk about the kills and whether I think they'd actually be fatal.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Do you have any questions about any of the kills or should I just go into it?
- 22:44SPEAKER_04: Uh I have a general like two questions about the movie in general, if that's cool.
- 22:48SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, go for it.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: So did anyone else feel like Dr.
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: Loomis had a lot more screen time in their memory than he did in this movie?
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: Because he's at about three scenes.
- 23:03SPEAKER_04: I'm probably misremembering, like missing one, but he's got his opening scene, he's got his scene where he says, Yo, this dude's coming, and then there was probably one other inconsequential one that didn't even need to be there.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, the graveyard thing, I think.
- 23:17SPEAKER_04: And uh then when he didn't shoot him six times.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Did anyone else like remember him being in this movie a lot more?
- 23:26SPEAKER_04: Because I've seen all the movies, and he has a lot more screen time later on.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: So am I just misremembering, or is this like a Mandela effect that we we've got going on here?
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: I don't remember him having too much, so I remember him being more like, Why are you in this movie so much, old man?
- 23:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's that's kind of what I'm saying.
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: I thought he was in this a lot more.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: I bet you garnet remember a lot because this is the first time I've seen this movie again in a really long time.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Like I can't remember the last time I saw it, to be honest.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I want to say 15, 20 years.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Jeez, yeah.
- 23:59SPEAKER_04: And I've seen it like once a year for the past 20 years.
- 24:03SPEAKER_04: That's that's uh I'm I'm I'm misrepresenting it's like five times a year for the past 20 years.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: I have like one more question, I think.
- 24:15SPEAKER_04: About uh no, let's let's do your stuff and then then we'll then we'll go back to me.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, so medical realism of the murders.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: First, we have Judith Myers.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, she was stabbed in the abdomen by a child.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: So my thing is could a child stab deep enough to hit the aorta?
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Because that's what's gonna make it fatal.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: It ought it obvious um it would honestly not be instantly fatal too, like it seemed in the movie.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: It usually takes about three minutes for you to bleed out if your aorta is ruptured or stabbed or basically opened to the environment it should not be.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: So uh let's put the 1970s lens on this one.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: Uh say we're all hanging out, and Garnet just gets pissed off at a joke I make.
- 25:02SPEAKER_04: She goes to the kitchen, she has about the strength of a child, she stabs me in the aorta, and you're like, actually gonna save me for some reason.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: Is there any chance?
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: And pretend it's the 70s, so we're all drunk and high anyway.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Huh.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Out of the hospital setting?
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: No, you're not living.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: You basically need to like trip and fall into a CT skin so they see what's going on, and then like immediately rush you to the OR in like minutes.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: Don't sign me up for that one then.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Ruptured aorta is nothing that you want to deal with.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Now we're in the 70s.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Both.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: I was just using the 70s as a lens for uh just in case medical science has changed.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: But if you're saying like if you trip and fall into a CT scan, you're is that the one that's like I know great radio that we're on, like right here, or is that like more down here?
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Like your aorta comes off your heart and extends around and down into your abdomen.
- 26:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's like a it's like a question mark almost.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: Next murder we had was awful friend Annie.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Uh she was choked and had her throat slashed.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: This would definitely be fatal if Michael hit the carotid or punctured the trachea.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Probably not as immediate again as it was in the movie.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Like people in this movie like get stabbed and it's like what I imagine death touches in Magic the Gathering, like touch and you're instantly dead.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: Like this slash to the throat.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Um like you said, uh, I know the aorta and it's like the Adam's apple or whatever the hell that is, is like the stuff you have to not get cut.
- 26:43SPEAKER_04: Um, but is there any way to like treat that?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: You have more of a chance of like holding pressure on the carotid long enough to get you into a hospital or somewhere where it could be stopped.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: But again, you have you need to be like two minutes from the hospital.
- 27:02SPEAKER_04: Because I would also like even cut off blood flow to your brain to some degree, right?
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: Like even if you just stopped it, like your brain's gonna be running at like 50% power.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: So like that's me in a normal day.
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: But you know, I I feel like that one is probably a lot more I'm just guessing this one's a lot more accurate than the other one, than the first one.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: I think the first one's probably a little more accurate because basically hitting the aorta is near instant death, where being choked and having your throat slashed one would be a lot more gory than this movie suggests.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna take a little bit longer for you to bleed out.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: I have a question.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: If you were to take the knitting needles that Lori had and take a long string, could you potentially suture that wound and not die as quick?
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: Not with a knitting needle, that's not gonna pierce skin.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Not like in a way suture.
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was like blunt force.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:07SPEAKER_04: Like a knitting needle's like the size of a pea.
- 28:10SPEAKER_04: Imagine having a bunch of peas-shaped holes in you.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: That's gonna do more damage than the knife, I think.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: I guess so.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: I had to ask.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: The murder we have after that is the pedophile.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Annie's boyfriend Bob was his name, right?
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Pedophile Bob.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: That was Bob.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: He was also stabbed in the central abdomen, probably got the aorta dead within three minutes in real life.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: But again, instantly dead the minute the knife penetrated into him.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: And I gotta throw this one out there a little bit of unrealism.
- 28:45SPEAKER_04: I don't think it's possible to stab a man through the chest into a wall and hold it up with just the standard kitchen knife.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: Like maybe if you had like some kind of broadsword or a katana, but I'm just not seeing this kitchen knife from the 70s uh just hold a full man's weight.
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: I don't think it would be long enough.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: Like it's gotta get like to hold something like substantial, you have to get about halfway in.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: And usually like one screw holds about 50 pounds, give or take.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: I feel like some stuff from the 1970s is made with a lot more quality than now, though.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: I could see it.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Like there was this one wooden spoon we had when I was a kid that I swear to you is from the 1970s, and it just lasted and lasted.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: Do you think that wooden spoon could be shoved through a man's chest and held him and hold him on a wall?
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: You never know.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's not like we've tried it.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: No.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: No, I think it disappeared with the move.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: R I P wooden spoon from the 70s.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Last kill, we see Linda strangled with a telephone cord.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: Yes, choking is generally fatal.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Also, choking is usually not generally from a lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain, not really because someone's cutting off like your airway.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: Yikes.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: So phone cord, you think that's a good instrument of choking?
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: Because I just don't know if you can get it tight enough.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Like well, you could get it tight enough to again, you're compressing the carotids.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: You're not trying to do anything to the trachea.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: You just want to hold pressure over the carotids to slow the blood flow.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: I don't want to take the Mythbusters challenge on that, so I'm just gonna believe you.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: Yikes.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: There was also dog death.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not a vet, so I do not wish to comment on animal deaths mostly because they make me sad.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: Same help.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: There was the mechanic who died off screen, but we don't really know the manner he was killed, so I can't really comment on the realism for that one.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Probably choked him with a wrench.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Choked with a wrench, like shoved it down his throat, choked.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: I said what I said.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: Crush onto his trachea and just like hold it there.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Realistic, right?
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's strong enough of a head a headstone, I'd say yes.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: And then I have a couple things that weren't fatal but could have been.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: When Lori falls down the stairs, being stabbed in the neck with knitting needles could absolutely be fatal if you hit the carotid and bleed out.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Michael, when he gets stabbed in the abdomen, could have been fatal.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: And Michael being shot five times and falling from a window definitely could have been fatal if he's not some weird supernatural evil being.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: What is he again?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: He surely is not a person.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Or maybe he is an alien.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, how would he learn how to drive though?
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Clearly, he's not just an average man.
- 31:38SPEAKER_04: D do you want me to just info dump on how much I know about Halloween?
- 31:42SPEAKER_04: I can do it in like two.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, please.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, do it.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: Hold on.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna like set a timer for this and just make sure I can do this all.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Spoiler warning.
- 31:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: I'm about to spoil the entire franchise for Halloween, uh, literally all of it, and like one or two of those movies are actually good.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: So I ready?
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Ready.
- 32:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, so in the original movie, Michael and Lori aren't brother and sister.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: They were just kind of uh it she was just a random target.
- 32:08SPEAKER_04: Second movie, it turns out she is his brother.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: It was Retcond.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: John Carpenter didn't like it.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: He actually wanted to make Halloween an anthology series, so they made, but the producers didn't like it, so they made them to have some kind of weird connection.
- 32:21SPEAKER_04: At the end of the second one, he's blown up, no real explanation is given.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Move on to the third movie.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: It is the season of the witch Halloween movie, Halloween three, completely separate from this, and in this movie, Halloween one and two are movies in that world, so presumably it's closer to ours, and it's about a bunch of Halloween masks coming back from a Gaelic curse in order to uh possess people.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: It's where you get the three more days to Halloween, three more days to Halloween, Silver Shamrock.
- 32:47SPEAKER_04: Then that movie ends.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: I don't actually remember how, it's actually pretty good.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Just pretend it's not a Halloween movie, it's it's a good movie.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: Then you get into the Thorn trilogy, which is four, five, and six.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: Now, four is a very good movie.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: It's basically the first requel that ever exists.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: I don't remember the exact plot of all these, but this basically goes into Michael's backstory, saying he is got some kind of curse and he's uh got this weird tattoo on his wrist that looks like something at a Bloodborne, almost exactly like some the charm from Bloodborne, or I don't know if Berserk was out at this time, but it's like half of the Berserk symbol.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: The fifth movie is awful, just pretend it doesn't exist.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: The sixth movie is incredibly problematic because it essentially says that Michael sexually assaults his niece and has a child.
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: I don't remember how that one is.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: It's still better than the sixth, and you know, it's using uh assault as a plot point, so that's how bad the fifth is.
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: Then after that, we go into Halloween 20 Years Later, which is a direct sequel to two, and it pretends four through or three through six don't exist.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: So Halloween Twenty Years Later is just a uh the capstone of the series between Lori and uh Michael, and it just shows as his brother there's probably some kind of weird possession thing.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: Then we go into Halloween Resurrection, which is the sequel to H2O, which shouldn't have happened, but it has Buster Rhymes.
- 34:00SPEAKER_04: It's a lot of fun, just pretend it's a bad movie.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: Then you get into the re reboot trilogy, which disregards everything except for the very first movie.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: There's even a line how it says that Michael wasn't actually Lori's brother, some bullshit made up.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: First one's actually pretty good, then goes into Halloween Kills.
- 34:15SPEAKER_04: Really, really bad movie, but there are a lot of really good kills in it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_04: Then the last one is Halloween ends, which is kind of weird, and I'm just kind of okay with it, but no real explanation is given other than he's just some kind of killing machine.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: Two minutes 41 seconds.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: Good work.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Good job.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you for your knowledge.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate your knowledge, dump.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: What I do makes a lot of sense now.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Or kind of doesn't, but you know, yeah, it makes more sense.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: Basically, the whole part of that.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: Who gives a shit?
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: He's scary.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: And he doesn't die, shit.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: What do you have to talk about today, Gar uh Garnet?
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Did you almost call me Garrett?
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: I did almost call you Garrett.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: If he was listening to this, he would be so angry.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Offended to his deepest being.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: I was gonna talk a little bit about stalkers.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: So disclaimer, I'm not like a expert on stalkers or anything really, but uh, I'm just gonna give my opinion on how I feel like they think based on what I know about psychology and just some of the own my own research I did regarding it on uh like different websites like psychology today and things that I've picked up along the way.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: So Michael is stalking Lori and her friends with the intent to kill.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: And do all stalkers kill?
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily, are all becoming violent.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Not always.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Should it be taken seriously?
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: And as always, if you don't feel safe calling for help, I know sometimes the police can't do much, but you should anyway, because they will document it, domestic violence hotlines, and just don't silly go off of this because we don't know your situation.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: And this is for entertainment purposes and educational only, so don't go off these things.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: Can I throw one thing out really quick?
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:00SPEAKER_04: If you're at a bar and uh you feel unsafe, ask for an angel shot, they'll know what it means.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: That's real.
- 36:06SPEAKER_04: Many bars will do it.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: I've never seen it ordered, but uh, we can ask Daddy Beef if he's ever had to do it.
- 36:12SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: Let me text him real quick and see if he can clarify in the next like minute.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: So what I see with stalkers in the media, that's accurate, is they're a delusional component with a lot of it.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: So the one that I know them more about than the other forms is something called a Rotomania, which is basically a delusion where a person believes that they're in a relationship with the person that they're stalking, or that that person is in love with them.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: So they're crossing all the boundaries and they think this is fine.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: So think of Joe Goldberg and you.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: He had, besides main Jeremy and character syndrome, and thought how he stalked and terrified women was completely justified and out of love.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: He's a good example of that because everything he did was because he loved them.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: There's also a type of stalker that's more resentful, someone who does it over a kind of perceived injustice and wants revenge, so they harass and stalk the person.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: And then there's Michael Myers, who's just a stone cold killer who just stalks for the sake of extilling fear and to hunt the person.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: I would say that's the most deadly of the stalkers.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: So with the Eratomania type, it's more of a love-based type of delusion.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: So even like if you guys have ever seen Baby Reindeer, but with Michael, it's all about fear and the thrill of the kill, I guess.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know what he's thinking.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: He's just a creepy guy.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: But he follows Lori, he calls her for just heavy breathing.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Um, in today's standards, stalking could be different than it was in the 1970s, besides excessive phone calls.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Someone who constantly doesn't stop texting you, no matter if you ask them to stop, they just keep text, text, text, text.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Why don't you answer text, text, text?
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Or someone showing up unannounced and uninvited to you from at your house, a place you went to recreationally, work, and it could even be someone who keeps giving you gifts you don't want, like uncomfortably, like someone you barely know, leaving something at your doorstep that's creepy or weird, or just in general, something over the top, and you're like, I barely know this dude.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Why is there a golden bracelet on my doorstep?
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: For my research, the undergoing action I picked up on is not responding to them, but keeping track of the interactions and going to the authorities.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: So for example, if somebody calls you 35 times and you respond the 36th, it just teaches them that they need to call you 35 times to answer them.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: It also feeds a delusion because even if you tell them to fuck off and die, in their minds, depending on the stalker type, they're suddenly crafting a whole new delusion about you.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: And if it's specifically for a Rotomania, it's one that's romantic.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: So it's very concerning because this is, like I said, it's a very delusional thing that isn't based in reality.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Scary shit.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: Questions?
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Concerns?
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: I think I might have a few questions.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: Codia, do you have anything?
- 38:58SPEAKER_04: I don't want to overstep.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: I'll try to have it answer.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: No, nothing that I got.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: So what type of stocking do you think Michael portrays in here the most?
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Because that erado media thing is, I think, a common theory that goes around the internet where I've heard a lot of folks I know CZ's World did a video on this, and I think I heard another podcast whose name escapes me, talked about the psychosexual development of um Michael.
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: Because one of his early core memories, like he's five when he kills his sister, but he sees his sister, you know, having sex and then kills her.
- 39:37SPEAKER_04: So that might cause him to equate sex and violence together and create some kind of erotomaniaism.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: But I'm not a psychologist and I haven't done any research for this.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: So I'm just wondering your your thoughts on that.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: I just kind of took him as someone who was just like a killer.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: I didn't really think too I didn't think too much about the sexual components because I don't know.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: Because uh my idea of the erotomania is more of that romantic stalker love, not like killing people for it.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, that that's interesting though.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: I never thought of it that way.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, none of that is my theory.
- 40:14SPEAKER_04: I've just heard other podcasts talk about that, and I always thought it made sense because you know, one of your earliest memories is be seeing someone naked and then stabbing them to death.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: And I'll cut this story if you guys want, but I knew a dude who got really into BDSM because he burned himself while having some alone time, we'll say.
- 40:38SPEAKER_04: And he started to equate those two things.
- 40:40SPEAKER_04: And I am not trying to say BDSM is wrong in any way, shape, or form, as long as you are safe and openly consensual about it, enthusiastically consensual, but he admitted that that was where his preferred masochism came from.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Like it was a complete accident that it happened, but I could see that, because pleasure and pain are very closely intertwined, I think, neurotransmitter-wise, right, Caudia?
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Like from like a neuroscience level.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: Off the top of my head, I would have to look into it.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: I do know that as far as erotomania, like part of the delusion is they think the person they think the person they're stalking also loves them, right?
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Or that they're in a relationship with them.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: That's one thing I think in the column of I don't know if Michael's erotia, because I don't think he has the delusion that Lori is in love with them.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: He just wants to kill her, yeah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: Fair.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: So I was just wrong in that one, and that's that was my goal today.
- 41:42SPEAKER_04: To be wrong.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: And I I got an answer from Daddy Beef.
- 41:46SPEAKER_04: The short answer is no.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought that was like an internet like joke because I've seen it.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: No, no, it's real.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: Like I've actually been to bars where they might call it something else.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 41:58SPEAKER_04: Where um like I've I I've seen it on a bar where they had a list of shots that you could order or drinks, and they basically go from levels of severity.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: So if uh anybody's on a first date, like good thing to ask your talk to your local bartender, they're usually good people.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Any more questions for a spic?
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: Okay, so question for Garnet.
- 42:22SPEAKER_04: Dr.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: Loomis says that Michael has no rudimentary understanding of right and wrong.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: He has the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Can you give me your take on the childhood development here and maybe what his actual condition is?
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, what pops into my head is uh antisocial personality disorder immediately.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if a kid is committing that level of violence, that's what comes to mind.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: I know the signs of it when some when a child's young is excessive bedwetting, setting fires, and hurting or killing small animals.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: So he just like transcended all three of those terrible things.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: So I would think it's antisocial personality disorder, and there's like a genetic component to all of it, right?
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Like that's what makes some of the psychology stuff so kind of like I don't want to say difficult, but like it's like that chicken or the egg concept.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of people have genetics predisposed to certain things, and then their environment either activates it or doesn't.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Like I know there were studies with twins that both had genetics for schizophrenia, and they were like put in two different foster homes, and I guess the one was chaotic and it activated the schizophrenia, and the other one, nothing ever happens like that.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: They were in a more stable environment.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: So I'd have to say probably antisocial personality disorder, if I had to take a guess.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: But like to the can't be diagnosed with that until he's the age of 18.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: He would have been what ODD to the extreme, oppositionally defiant.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Oppositional defiant disorder.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: Yep, yeah, oppositionally murdering people.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but also people diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder aren't all murdering.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: murderers or killers either.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: There's some people who like live functioning lives.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: They just their brains don't operate the same ways that ours do.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Like they don't feel the same amount of empathy.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Sometimes they look at people's obstacles.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: They could be manipulative, but not everyone who has it is like bad either, if that makes sense.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: Sometimes they're like high up CEOs with cutthroat, but they're not all killers.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: Just want to preface that.
- 44:23SPEAKER_04: I've played so many video games in my life that I actually worried I was anti psych or anti-social at one point.
- 44:29SPEAKER_04: And a therapist said you were in no fucking way that so you have too many emotions.
- 44:35SPEAKER_04: Being self-aware of it generally is a good indicator that you're not that thing, right?
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Well usually people who have it aren't worried that they have it too but that's more or less what my clients are people I know with anxiety disorders that worry that they have all these things and they usually don't have them.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: Am I this?
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: I'm like no no you're not that's okay I worry too.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: Oh another one he was kind of catatonic and he just sla sni they said he was more or less catatonic is kind of was my takeaway while he was in the institution.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Can you talk about catatonia either of you?
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: So I wonder if he was like traumatized by what he did that he was like that.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: That would make sense.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: Like a body shutdown almost I'm just doing a quick familiarity with catatonia.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: So there's kind of two avenues it can come from it could come from pure psych.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: So like a pure psychological catatonia but it could also be like a neurological phenomena so with actual structural problems in the brain and not because of any psychological things but it is when people are just staring they're usually mute um sometimes they will actually like repeat things you say that's a little uncommon.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times you can actually like pose them.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Isn't that schizophrenia symptom?
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: That's a negative schizophrenia symptom as well yeah so maybe that's what he had I don't know not all people with schizophrenia are violent either.
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: I mean I've also heard that just because you have one thing doesn't mean you don't have the others like you can be schizophrenic and antipsychotic and a few other things.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: One of the most common treatments for catatonia is benzodiazepinesychotics interesting also electroconvulsive therapy too is that where they hit the paddles to your head and just blast you really hard yeah I mean there's science to it though of course regulations.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: It's not just what happens when they let me practice medicine I got a set of jumper cables and that's why you're no longer a doctor I was never a doctor I want to make that very clear to the internet I am a lowly data scientist and that is the most important job I've ever done I'm not even really here I have manually masturbated Excel for two years or for like eight years now that is that is my job I have one last question if that's cool.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely not go what is it?
- 47:32SPEAKER_04: Well it's a question for Cody anyway.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: So oh well I'll mute this and eat my toast and paste.
- 47:36SPEAKER_04: Enjoy your toast say you have the horrible job of treating Michael like say they got him to the ER after he was shot six times but really five and fell out of a window and was stabbed in the eye and was stabbed with a knitting needle.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: What's your priority here?
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Well the priority for everything is airways breathing circulation.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: So you make sure that their airway is open you make sure they're breathing and then circulation means you stop any bad bleeding you make sure that their cardiac function is normal those are the basics of like trauma surveillance and I say this as someone who probably my least favorite thing about medicine is trauma.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: So what I'm getting there is you're not like necessarily looking at one thing or the other you're looking at the the body not the wounds.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Yes yes exactly I was wondering when you're looking yeah you're you're looking at the like you always think about what is the most common thing that's going to kill someone and the quickest thing is usually an airway issue.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: Well that is good to know and I think I am actually out of question because we answered I think every other bit of bullshit I have oh last question how you've been waiting an hour to eat that toast is it in any way shape or form good um it's okay we didn't talk about what movie we're doing next so I think we should flatliners I could do flatliners all right well that's a wrap on Halloween thank you guys all for tuning in our next episode should be airing on November 12th and we're gonna do flatliners which is available for streaming on tubi woo we're talking about the original right that's the one I saw was the original yeah the 1990s one with Kevin Bacon oh yes I love Kevin Bacon and check the show notes for socials and contact information till next time until next time this podcast was edited by Vic of Comics Book Beyond Cod Podcast.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: If you have any complaints or concerns contact him thanks everybody thanks for having me uh I'll come back eventually just not right away unless you never want me back like I I get that too I'm banning him done yeah Codia has all the master files so like I literally nothing I can do to stop her it's unstoppable all right thanks for having me bye and I'll take
