In 1958, the Ol’ Shavano chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution took on a mission to preserve the forgotten history of Shavano, a once-thriving settlement north of San Antonio that served as a vital stagecoach stop for westbound travelers. Home to German and Anglo-American settlers, Shavano boasted its own post office and school by 1881 — both tied to influential families like the de Zavalas and the Lockes.
