- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 wash.
- 0:04Speaker 2: FM Friday morning at 97.1 wash FM you have made
- 0:10Speaker 2: it made it to the end of another week let's
- 0:12Speaker 2: just get through today and then boom it's all about
- 0:16Speaker 2: you and what you need to do for you this
- 0:19Speaker 2: weekend asterisk that includes family taking care of the kids
- 0:23Speaker 2: perhaps maybe there's lots of soccer school events and whatnot
- 0:26Speaker 2: on the agenda and Y'all have these things. But remember,
- 0:29Speaker 2: it's all part of your you time without work this weekend.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We're Toby and Chili in the morning here at 97.1
- 0:36Speaker 2: Wash FM. Feeling good as we get into the weekend, Chili?
- 0:39Speaker 3: I am because this weekend kicks off our tour of
- 0:41Speaker 3: all the fun fall festivals in the DMV with Cox
- 0:45Speaker 3: Farm tomorrow.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Oh, good for you. We got our tickets.
- 0:48Speaker 3: We purchased them online so we don't have to wait
- 0:50Speaker 3: in the long line to buy them. We went last year,
- 0:53Speaker 3: the opening day. Opening day makes it seem like a
- 0:55Speaker 3: baseball game. But anyway, it was, yes. So I'm really
- 0:59Speaker 3: excited to do that because we do have a lot
- 1:00Speaker 3: of fun at those places.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I am having, I'm really looking forward to emceeing an
- 1:07Speaker 2: event called Triumph Trek on Sunday with Adventist Healthcare. And
- 1:12Speaker 2: it's over at Rio in Gaithersburg. And it's called Triumph
- 1:16Speaker 2: Trek because it's people who have been through something that
- 1:20Speaker 2: required physical therapy. They've come back from whatever it was.
- 1:25Speaker 2: It could have been an injury, could have been surgery,
- 1:28Speaker 2: could have been a combination of all of the above.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And they are going to do a walk around the
- 1:34Speaker 2: lake and hang out with vendors and other former patients.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And they're going to celebrate their successes. And I think
- 1:42Speaker 2: that it's good stuff. I'm Being around people that are
- 1:46Speaker 2: celebrating their own personal overcoming, there's something about that that
- 1:52Speaker 2: is good for the soul, at least to me. And
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it. It's on Sunday. I haven't
- 1:56Speaker 2: really talked much about it. But if you want to
- 1:58Speaker 2: be a part of it, hit me up and I'll
- 2:00Speaker 2: tell you how you can. Show up on Sunday morning
- 2:02Speaker 2: before football. Hallelujah.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And pack an umbrella.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah. If that happens, it happens. But speaking of the weather,
- 2:09Speaker 2: I'm sure we'll get... Up to speed with all of
- 2:12Speaker 2: that as we get closer to the news. Top stories
- 2:16Speaker 2: at the top of the hour coming up in just
- 2:18Speaker 2: a few minutes. Chili, along with the weather, what else
- 2:22Speaker 2: is going on?
- 2:23Speaker 3: A recent survey finds that being single is increasingly a choice.
- 2:29Speaker 4: More on that coming up in just a few weeks.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:36Speaker 5: A U.N.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Panel says there are reasonable grounds to believe that the U.S.
- 2:40Speaker 3: committed war crimes in Iran. The panel says that two U.S.
- 2:44Speaker 3: airstrikes back in February killed at least 178 civilians, including
- 2:49Speaker 3: dozens of children at a school. Federal judge says the
- 2:52Speaker 3: Kennedy Center must give 30 days notice before making any
- 2:56Speaker 3: major physical changes to the building, including demolition. This comes
- 3:00Speaker 3: after the center suddenly closed this week over safety concerns.
- 3:04Speaker 3: A man charged in the murder of a 10-year-old Prince
- 3:07Speaker 3: George's County boy who disappeared more than 33 years ago.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Police say 61-year-old Joseph Lynch killed George Jr. Berdinski back
- 3:16Speaker 3: in 1993. after forcing a 13-year-old witness to participate. A
- 3:22Speaker 3: 21-year-old man is under arrest in connection with a deadly
- 3:25Speaker 3: shooting outside Quincy's in Rockville. Police say Cheyenne Damabi was
- 3:29Speaker 3: arrested yesterday outside a Gaithersburg motel. He's accused of shooting
- 3:33Speaker 3: and killing a 33-year-old man back on September 13th. An
- 3:37Speaker 3: Empower rideshare driver is accused of sexually assaulting and kidnapping
- 3:42Speaker 3: a teenage girl in Silver Spring. Police identified and arrested
- 3:46Speaker 3: the driver after the assault was reported Tuesday. And a
- 3:49Speaker 3: recent study finds being single is increasingly a choice. Nearly
- 3:54Speaker 3: half of single Americans surveyed went on zero in-person dates
- 3:58Speaker 3: last year, while more than half say they're happier and
- 4:02Speaker 3: less stressed than when they're in their last relationship. Only 16%
- 4:06Speaker 3: say they're actively seeking commitment. Forecast, we're going to have
- 4:11Speaker 3: cloudy skies later on with highs around 83. Right now, though,
- 4:14Speaker 3: 72 in Bowie.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Remember, when you need the news that really matters most,
- 4:18Speaker 2: you'll get it right here at 97.1 Wash FM with
- 4:21Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. Top stories at the
- 4:24Speaker 2: top of the hour. And when you really need a
- 4:27Speaker 2: quick pick-me-up that's not like a full-blown TED Talk, but
- 4:30Speaker 2: it's enough that'll help you to maybe start your day
- 4:33Speaker 2: the right way or turn around a day or a
- 4:35Speaker 2: week that's gone bad, You'll get that with your morning
- 4:38Speaker 2: mindset coming up in just a few. And today, in
- 4:41Speaker 2: honor of our best of the 80s and 90s weekend
- 4:43Speaker 2: that starts later on today with Sabrina Conti, you, that's right,
- 4:48Speaker 2: guessed right, the song and the lyric you'll hear and
- 4:54Speaker 2: it will apply to you. So what's the lyric and
- 4:56Speaker 2: what's the song? Find out coming up. Every so often
- 5:00Speaker 2: something comes from out of nowhere really seemingly and it
- 5:04Speaker 2: gives you some hope, some inspiration and hopefully that's What
- 5:07Speaker 2: happens with your morning mindset right now? It's 97.1. Watch FM.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Tell me in Chile in the morning. This just kind
- 5:14Speaker 2: of came my way out of nowhere because it's not
- 5:18Speaker 2: normally some song that I would choose. However, life has
- 5:23Speaker 2: a way of showing you what you need at any
- 5:26Speaker 2: given moment.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Now, usually the morning mindset is a quote that you
- 5:29Speaker 3: find online. But on Fridays, because we have our best
- 5:32Speaker 3: of the 80s and 90s weekend that kicks off at
- 5:34Speaker 3: 5 p.m., You generally search for a lyric that speaks
- 5:38Speaker 3: to you.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And this morning, the lyric that I didn't really initially
- 5:43Speaker 2: want to share with you just kind of kept coming
- 5:46Speaker 2: back my way. It's almost like life was sending a message,
- 5:49Speaker 2: share this because somebody needs to hear it. From 86,
- 5:52Speaker 2: Steve Winwood, his album Back in the High Life, the
- 5:54Speaker 2: song Higher Love. Come on, sing it. You know the song.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Bring me a higher love. Whoa. There must be higher love.
- 6:04Speaker 2: than what I'm thinking of. There must be higher love
- 6:07Speaker 2: is what I want to focus on. You see, that
- 6:10Speaker 2: higher love is important because sometimes I think we all
- 6:13Speaker 2: need a reminder that we as individuals deserve more than
- 6:17Speaker 2: just getting through the day. We need a little connection.
- 6:21Speaker 2: We need a little joy. We need a little something
- 6:23Speaker 2: that'll fill us back up. And that can be found
- 6:26Speaker 2: in that higher love. There must be higher love than
- 6:29Speaker 2: what we're thinking of. Steve Winwood with your morning mindset today,
- 6:34Speaker 2: a song you'll hear no doubt on this best of
- 6:36Speaker 2: the 80s and 90s weekend when it starts later on
- 6:38Speaker 2: today with Sabrina Conti at five. So find that higher
- 6:42Speaker 2: love and let it do what it does for you.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And hopefully it fills you back up emotionally, spiritually, just
- 6:49Speaker 2: in time for the weekend. It's 97.1 Wash FM. If
- 6:53Speaker 2: you want to hear the song, I'll put the embed
- 6:55Speaker 2: to the link for you on the Toby and Chili
- 6:57Speaker 2: page at washfm.com. In the meantime, don't go too far.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Because the NFL season is in week two, we came
- 7:04Speaker 3: across the most outrageous new foods at NFL stadiums this season,
- 7:08Speaker 3: including right here in D.C.
- 7:10Speaker 2: If you consider yourself to be a foodie, you've got
- 7:12Speaker 2: to follow the website Delish. Like, follow their Insta, follow
- 7:16Speaker 2: their stuff that they post online. They broke down some
- 7:20Speaker 2: of these dishes that you can purchase at NFL stadiums
- 7:23Speaker 2: this season. Some of them are just gluttonously outrageous, but nonetheless,
- 7:28Speaker 2: some of them that might be gluttonous look so good.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Well, at some point, they switched from just having regular
- 7:35Speaker 3: burgers and hot dogs at these football games to having
- 7:38Speaker 3: fair food. Like really interesting, creative, fair food. But let's
- 7:42Speaker 3: start with here locally at Northwest Stadium. They've got a
- 7:46Speaker 3: new crab stuffed pretzel. It's a crab shaped pretzel filled
- 7:51Speaker 3: with lemon tarragon crab dip brushed with garlic butter and
- 7:55Speaker 3: finished with grated Parmesan cheese. Yes.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yes. Here at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and Chili
- 8:01Speaker 2: in the morning. The Toby Knapp half of this show endorses.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Sad crab stuffed pretzel. I look forward to trying it
- 8:08Speaker 2: this season. There's more on the list, though. In my hometown,
- 8:11Speaker 2: Chile of Houston, they have something they're calling the Battle
- 8:15Speaker 2: Red Berry Bird. It's the most colorful sandwich, they say,
- 8:18Speaker 2: in the NFL. Berry buffalo sauce topped with slaw, pickles,
- 8:25Speaker 2: Cajun cheese served on a challah bun with some tater
- 8:28Speaker 2: kegs and chipotle aioli.
- 8:31Speaker 3: When it gets into different flavor profiles like that, a
- 8:35Speaker 3: Tums is going to be needed, at least for me.
- 8:37Speaker 3: It's very dangerous for me to get into that many
- 8:41Speaker 3: different things on a sandwich.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Is there anything else on this list that you see
- 8:45Speaker 2: that jumps out at you?
- 8:47Speaker 4: There's a lot.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there is.
- 8:49Speaker 3: This one makes my stomach hurt just reading about it.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Denver Broncos, the empower field at mile high. They've got
- 8:56Speaker 3: this forty five dollar beast in a blanket, a two
- 8:59Speaker 3: foot hot dog loaded with brisket, burnt ends, cheddar and
- 9:03Speaker 3: goat cheese wrapped in puff pastry and topped with avocado cream,
- 9:08Speaker 3: crispy onions, jalapeno and.
- 9:11Speaker 4: A secret sauce. Oh, no, no, no, no. Thank you.
- 9:15Speaker 4: First of all, it's expensive. Second of all, ouch.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Oh, my diabetes and my blood sugar is spiking. Toby
- 9:23Speaker 2: and Chilly in the morning hangout. Top stories at the
- 9:24Speaker 2: top of the hour coming up in just a few.
- 9:26Speaker 2: What are you working on?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Twelve finalists have been announced for the National Toy Hall
- 9:33Speaker 3: of Fame. And I'll share some of the highlights with
- 9:35Speaker 3: you coming up in just a few.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It's time to start negotiating with the weekend. 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:42Speaker 2: We're Toby and Chili in the morning, especially when it
- 9:44Speaker 2: comes to things to do, like in Reston, the Multicultural
- 9:48Speaker 2: Town Festival.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, the Reston Town Square Park tomorrow, 11 to 6.
- 9:53Speaker 3: It's free music, dance, food, crafts, and performances that celebrate
- 9:58Speaker 3: Reston's international community.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That's right. And speaking of songs that have to do
- 10:03Speaker 2: with international communities, Tears for Fears. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 10:08Speaker 2: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington.
- 10:13Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Of the hour.
- 10:17Speaker 3: A UN human rights panel says there are reasonable grounds
- 10:21Speaker 3: to believe the U.S. committed war crimes in Iran. We've
- 10:24Speaker 3: got the latest on that story and others on the
- 10:27Speaker 3: way with Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1
- 10:31Speaker 3: Wash FM.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 10:36Speaker 3: A UN human rights panel says there are reasonable grounds
- 10:40Speaker 3: to believe the U.S. committed war crimes in Iran. Investigators
- 10:43Speaker 3: say two February airstrikes killed at least 178 civilians, including
- 10:49Speaker 3: children at a school.
- 10:50Speaker 4: A federal judge has.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Ordered the administration to give 30 days notice before they
- 10:55Speaker 3: make any changes to Kennedy Center renovation plans, including potential demolition.
- 11:01Speaker 3: The ruling followed photos of the president looking at a
- 11:03Speaker 3: placard that read Kennedy Center demolished on board Air Force One.
- 11:09Speaker 3: A 33-year-old mystery in Prince George's County may finally have answers.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Police have charged 61-year-old Joseph Lynch in the disappearance and
- 11:17Speaker 3: death of 10-year-old George Jr. Burdinski, who vanished while he
- 11:21Speaker 3: was riding his bike back in 1993.
- 11:25Speaker 4: D.C.
- 11:25Speaker 3: 's new pro volleyball team has found its home court.
- 11:29Speaker 4: The D.C.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Flight will play all 13 home matches at the Anthem
- 11:34Speaker 3: in Southwest D.C., which is going to be transformed into
- 11:37Speaker 3: into a roughly 3,000-seat volleyball arena, and the 2027 season
- 11:42Speaker 3: will start January 7th. Tickle Me Elmo, the Playground Slide,
- 11:47Speaker 3: and Bingo are among the 12 finalists for the National
- 11:50Speaker 3: Toy Hall of Fame. The public can vote now alongside
- 11:53Speaker 3: a panel of judges, with three winners to be announced
- 11:56Speaker 3: in February, and voting closes on Wednesday. And according to
- 12:00Speaker 3: a recent survey, two-thirds of American homeowners say they've already
- 12:03Speaker 3: experienced a power outage this year. Nearly three-quarters fear another
- 12:09Speaker 3: outage will happen, yet 41% have no emergency backup power.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Forecast for today will have cloudy skies with highs around 83.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Now it's 73 in Woodbridge.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Now that you have the news, let's talk about this.
- 12:25Speaker 2: The dumbest reason that you ever got in trouble at school.
- 12:29Speaker 2: There's a student in upstate New York who got into
- 12:32Speaker 2: a bit of trouble for a very peculiar reason. sure
- 12:35Speaker 2: you probably have a story. So share it with the
- 12:38Speaker 2: class at 866-927-4361 because we're talking about it coming up.
- 12:43Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM Friday with Toby and Chili in the
- 12:48Speaker 2: morning in Washington's variety of the 80s, 90s, and today.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Let's think back. Was there some sort of a ridiculously
- 12:54Speaker 2: dumb reason you got in trouble? What was it? Let
- 12:57Speaker 2: me count the ways.
- 12:59Speaker 1: 866-927-4361.
- 13:00Speaker 2: If you're all triggered right now, there was a girl
- 13:04Speaker 2: in New York, Beaver Falls, New York, that had a
- 13:07Speaker 2: really dumb reason for.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Getting suspended for bringing coffee to school on the first
- 13:11Speaker 3: day of class.
- 13:12Speaker 4: OK.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Teacher confronted her, gave her the choice to dump it,
- 13:15Speaker 3: drink it or go to the office. Well, she chose
- 13:17Speaker 3: to go to the office because I'm sure that cup
- 13:19Speaker 3: of coffee was not cheap if she stopped by one
- 13:21Speaker 3: of those places.
- 13:22Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 13:23Speaker 2: That's ridiculous. I mean, everybody else in that school, you know,
- 13:26Speaker 2: was having coffee when it comes to the teachers and whatnot.
- 13:29Speaker 2: What makes them different than that student? Well, they've got
- 13:31Speaker 2: banning outside food and drinks. But of all the things
- 13:35Speaker 2: that one could get an in-school suspension for, that just
- 13:38Speaker 2: does seem a bit ridiculous. And here I thought I
- 13:41Speaker 2: was the only person who got into trouble for dumb
- 13:45Speaker 2: reasons when I was younger.
- 13:46Speaker 4: What's a one dumb reason you got?
- 13:48Speaker 2: I bit the head off of my friend Sarah Lopez's
- 13:50Speaker 2: gingerbread cookie, man, upon reason and belief. I got in
- 13:55Speaker 2: serious trouble. My name was put on the board with
- 13:57Speaker 2: like two or three extra checks. And when I got home,
- 13:59Speaker 2: there was a fun conversation to be had. Yes, you
- 14:02Speaker 2: shouldn't be beheading your friend's cookies. Robert in Reston, you
- 14:06Speaker 2: got busted for a dumb reason in school. What happened?
- 14:08Speaker 5: Probably the laughing at the worst possible time.
- 14:11Speaker 4: What was so funny?
- 14:12Speaker 5: I wasn't even laughing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: At anything bad.
- 14:14Speaker 5: The room was just completely silent. And once I started,
- 14:18Speaker 5: I couldn't stop.
- 14:19Speaker 4: That happened to me in church once. Not good.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Sounds to me like somebody had it in for you, Robert.
- 14:24Speaker 2: But thank you for the story that might have made
- 14:26Speaker 2: us chuckle just a bit this morning. Stacey, good morning
- 14:30Speaker 2: in Germantown. What happened to you?
- 14:32Speaker 6: One time, my friends and I were in class, and
- 14:34Speaker 6: the teacher made the announcement about the kid sitting there.
- 14:36Speaker 4: What did you do wrong?
- 14:37Speaker 6: That teacher does not understand the basics of the word solidarity.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Thank you for sharing that story with us. We're Toby
- 14:43Speaker 6: and Chili in the morning at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Stay there, it's coming up.
- 14:46Speaker 6: Restaurants say that they're getting more and more people calling
- 14:48Speaker 6: to make solo reservations.
- 15:06Speaker 2: What is a solo reservation? Hang on. Solo dining is
- 15:10Speaker 2: a thing, but I did not realize making reservations for
- 15:14Speaker 2: a party of one was the thing that it is,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but apparently it is. We're Toby and Chili in the
- 15:20Speaker 2: morning at 97.1 Wash FM. Explanations, por favor.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Well, a new report says that solo reservations are becoming
- 15:28Speaker 3: more common. They are up 22% over the previous year.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Okay.
- 15:34Speaker 3: And the most popular time slots that people are making
- 15:37Speaker 3: a reservation for one, 9 a.m. And then after that one,
- 15:41Speaker 3: 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for like early bird dinner reservations.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I don't understand why.
- 15:50Speaker 3: You don't understand why someone makes a reservation or why
- 15:53Speaker 3: somebody would want to dine alone.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I understand the dining alone. I've done that. I have
- 15:57Speaker 2: no problem with solace in my solitude. I've never, in
- 16:01Speaker 2: all of the times that I've dined by myself, made
- 16:04Speaker 2: a reservation for one.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Yes.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Like gone to open table or called ahead. Yeah. Hi,
- 16:09Speaker 2: Rosa Mexicano. Can I help you? Hey, it's a Toby nap.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Can I get a table for one reservation, please?
- 16:14Speaker 3: Because you and I would roll up to a place
- 16:17Speaker 3: and more than likely there's like a seat.
- 16:19Speaker 4: At the bar.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:20Speaker 3: That we'll sit at. Or maybe I'll say, yeah, table
- 16:22Speaker 3: for one. I don't think it's that weird to dine alone. No,
- 16:26Speaker 3: I would just feel a little awkward actually requesting a
- 16:29Speaker 3: space like a table for just me.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I can't even wrap my head around jumping through the website.
- 16:35Speaker 3: If it was a special restaurant that had a long
- 16:38Speaker 3: wait list, you may have to.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Really?
- 16:40Speaker 4: You're like thinking to yourself, man, I really.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Wanted to dine at this new bar or whatever.
- 16:45Speaker 4: And I want to make sure I get in.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I could see that being a thing like downtown at
- 16:50Speaker 2: Philomena because that place, I've never seen it slow. But
- 16:53Speaker 2: that's about it. Never would I make a reservation for one.
- 16:56Speaker 2: That would just seem weird.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Focusing on the positive here, I really am impressed that
- 17:01Speaker 3: we as a society are becoming a little more comfortable
- 17:04Speaker 3: dining alone. That's a good thing, I think. Enjoying your
- 17:06Speaker 3: own company is impressive.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Right. So memo to open table. Help do something about
- 17:11Speaker 2: the stigma. Create a new website, solodining.com or something like that,
- 17:15Speaker 2: so that people who do like to make reservations for
- 17:18Speaker 2: a party of one can do so in peace without
- 17:21Speaker 2: worrying about being judged. We're Toby and Chili in the
- 17:24Speaker 2: morning coming up right around 710. Top stories at the
- 17:28Speaker 2: top of the hour. What are you working on?

- 21:46Speaker 3: Mr.

- 22:43Speaker 2: to take with you?
- 22:45Speaker 5: Well, if I don't take my wife, I'm going to
- 22:46Speaker 5: have a very tough conversation when I get home.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Yep.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Well, you and yours have a wonderful time at the
- 22:54Speaker 2: show and congratulations from 97.1 Wash FM.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Thank you both.
- 22:59Speaker 2: And get back here on Monday after the weekend. Do
- 23:02Speaker 2: you know why? Hello, Jonas Brothers fans. We've got your
- 23:06Speaker 2: tickets to see them. They're going to be in town
- 23:08Speaker 2: in just days. And if you want to be here
- 23:10Speaker 2: after top stories, it's top of the hour Monday, right
- 23:12Speaker 2: around 710 to play and maybe win with another round
- 23:16Speaker 2: of your nearly impossible question and stay right there because
- 23:18Speaker 2: in just a If you.
- 23:19Speaker 3: We're going to share a story we think will make
- 23:22Speaker 3: you feel good on this Friday.
- 23:24Speaker 4: He was called outlaw for a reason.
- 23:27Speaker 3: And coming up, how one Maryland horse dodged rescuers for
- 23:31Speaker 3: two months.
- 23:31Speaker 2: It's been a tough week. It's always good to listen
- 23:35Speaker 2: to Toby and Chili in the morning at 97.1 Wash
- 23:38Speaker 2: FM on Fridays if you've had a tough week because
- 23:40Speaker 2: we like to find stories that make you feel good
- 23:44Speaker 2: on a Friday. And today... We've got one from the DMV. Maryland,
- 23:50Speaker 2: to be precise. For more than two months in Maryland,
- 23:54Speaker 2: people were on the hunt for a horse named Outlaw.
- 23:56Speaker 2: And with a name like Outlaw, you can probably guess
- 24:00Speaker 2: how this is going to go.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Well, he got loose back in June and he'd been
- 24:03Speaker 3: running free around the Liberty Reservoir area along the Baltimore
- 24:07Speaker 3: and Carroll County line ever since. And people would spot
- 24:09Speaker 3: him here and there. Rescuers tried to get close, but
- 24:13Speaker 3: Outlaw wanted no part of getting caught.
- 24:16Speaker 2: But they didn't give up. Had trail cameras, a drone.
- 24:20Speaker 2: They even put food out for him. And they had
- 24:24Speaker 2: a whole lot of patience because when you're chasing a
- 24:26Speaker 2: spooked horse through the woods, it's never going to end well.
- 24:31Speaker 3: But on September 3rd, they finally got him. He was
- 24:35Speaker 3: safely captured after more than two months living on his own.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Outlaw's owner ended up surrendering him, and now he's in
- 24:43Speaker 3: the care of Gentle Giant's Draft Horse Rescuer. He can
- 24:47Speaker 3: settle in, get whatever care he needs, and figure out
- 24:50Speaker 3: what's next.
- 24:51Speaker 2: What really speaks to us about this is how easy
- 24:54Speaker 2: it would have been for people to just stop looking
- 24:57Speaker 2: for Outlaw. They didn't. For two months straight, they went
- 25:01Speaker 2: looking for Outlaw. This horse was more than just their horse.
- 25:05Speaker 2: He was a mission and they made sure he didn't
- 25:07Speaker 2: just vanish into the woods to be forgotten.
- 25:10Speaker 4: No, he doesn't have to run anymore. Outlaw is safe.
- 25:13Speaker 3: And that's why we wanted to share this story with
- 25:15Speaker 3: you because it made us feel good on this Friday.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Because we've all at some point in time felt lost,
- 25:21Speaker 2: much like Outlaw. And we've needed friends and family and
- 25:25Speaker 2: those closest to help find us and to not give
- 25:28Speaker 2: up on us. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 25:30Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Got a story to share with
- 25:33Speaker 2: the class that makes you feel good on a Friday.
- 25:36Speaker 2: We ain't hard to find. Share it with us and
- 25:38Speaker 2: everyone can feel good because of what you've sent our way.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Stay there for the news. Top stories at the top
- 25:44Speaker 2: of the hour, right around 8, 10. Chili, what's good?
- 25:48Speaker 3: I don't know if it's good, but putting your phone
- 25:51Speaker 3: on silent to help you focus may actually backfire.
- 25:55Speaker 4: And I'll explain why coming up in just a few minutes.
- 25:57Speaker 2: The day is here. Music's biggest weekend has finally arrived.
- 26:02Speaker 2: It's 97.1. Watch FM. Tell me in Chile in the morning,

- 26:43Speaker 3: the U.S. committed war crimes in Iran. We've got the
- 26:46Speaker 3: latest on that story and others.
- 26:49Speaker 2: On the way.
- 26:49Speaker 4: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 26:57Speaker 3: A U.N. human rights panel says there are reasonable grounds
- 27:02Speaker 3: to believe the U.S.
- 27:03Speaker 4: Committed war crimes in Iran.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Investigators say two February airstrikes killed at least 178 civilians,
- 27:09Speaker 3: including children at a school. A federal judge is ordering
- 27:13Speaker 3: the Kennedy Center to give 30 days notice before any
- 27:16Speaker 3: major changes, including demolition. The order comes after the president
- 27:20Speaker 3: suggested the center could be torn down if his name
- 27:23Speaker 3: is not allowed on the building. A 33-year-old mystery in
- 27:27Speaker 3: Prince George's County may finally have answers. Police have charged
- 27:31Speaker 3: 61-year-old Joseph Lynch in the disappearance and death of 10-year-old
- 27:35Speaker 3: George Jr. Burdinski, who vanished while riding his bike in 1993.
- 27:41Speaker 3: An Empower rideshare driver is accused of sexually assaulting and
- 27:45Speaker 3: kidnapping a teenage girl in Silver Spring. Police identified and
- 27:50Speaker 3: arrested the driver after the assault was reported Tuesday. A
- 27:54Speaker 3: student was arrested after a reported armed robbery at Northwest
- 27:58Speaker 3: High School in Montgomery County yesterday. Police say the student
- 28:01Speaker 3: left campus and was arrested nearby with a gun recovered,
- 28:04Speaker 3: and the school was briefly placed on secure status. All
- 28:09Speaker 3: three major D.C. area airports rank near the bottom of
- 28:13Speaker 3: a new J.D. Power satisfaction survey. So Reagan National ranked
- 28:19Speaker 3: 7th worst, BWI 6th worst, And Dulles, fourth worst. And
- 28:25Speaker 3: if you're thinking about putting your phone on silent to
- 28:28Speaker 3: help you focus, well, think again, because a new study
- 28:31Speaker 3: suggests it could actually backfire. Researchers found that people checked
- 28:36Speaker 3: silent phones nearly twice as often as phones with sound
- 28:41Speaker 3: or their vibration on. And experts say that scheduled check-in
- 28:45Speaker 3: times may actually work better. Forecast for today, cloudy with
- 28:49Speaker 3: a highs around 83. Right now, 74 in Poolsville.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Remember that you get your news with stories at the

- 29:00Speaker 2: now that you're up to date, stay there because we're
- 29:02Speaker 2: going to talk about the rudest thing that has ever
- 29:06Speaker 2: happened to you while you've been traveling. What is it
- 29:09Speaker 2: about travel that brings this out in people? We'll discuss.
- 29:15Speaker 2: You'll want to jump in.
- 29:18Speaker 4: 866-927-4361.
- 29:19Speaker 2: The weekend is here. Maybe you're on your way to
- 29:22Speaker 2: one of the airports here in the DMV from BWI
- 29:25Speaker 2: to IAD to DCA. Going to hop on a plane. God,
- 29:30Speaker 2: I hope you don't experience any rude passengers who... Get
- 29:34Speaker 2: all rude up in your business. It's 97.1 Watch FM.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning bring this up because
- 29:41Speaker 2: they dropped a list of places you can go that
- 29:45Speaker 2: have the rudest people at said destination.
- 29:48Speaker 3: And this is based on travelers. So Paris, Italy and
- 29:51Speaker 3: New York were among the world's rudest destinations. I've been
- 29:54Speaker 3: to New York numerous times and I've never thought that
- 29:57Speaker 3: to be the case. I know you've been to Paris
- 30:00Speaker 3: and Italy.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Did you have any weird vibes or rude encounters?
- 30:04Speaker 2: Yes. These Frenchmen in Paris, the rudest city I've ever
- 30:09Speaker 2: been to. Rude drivers, rude cabbies, rude people, rude people
- 30:15Speaker 2: at the train station.
- 30:16Speaker 3: How were they being rude to you, though? Were they
- 30:18Speaker 3: just putting their noses up at you because you're American?
- 30:21Speaker 2: Annoyed because of the English. That's number one. They can
- 30:24Speaker 2: spot Americans from a mile away. So there was that
- 30:28Speaker 2: whole thing. And they're just overly critical of us. All
- 30:32Speaker 2: things considered, I feel like they don't like us. They
- 30:35Speaker 2: tolerate us.
- 30:36Speaker 3: But I think that sometimes the host country can be
- 30:39Speaker 3: rude to travelers and If they feel like they're being
- 30:42Speaker 3: disrespected or their culture is being disrespected, like you're doing
- 30:46Speaker 3: silly things to damage some of the things that they're
- 30:50Speaker 3: very proud of in their country because Americans or travelers
- 30:53Speaker 3: or tourists can do some stupid stuff.
- 30:56Speaker 4: True.
- 30:56Speaker 2: But I didn't do anything stupid. I was just trying
- 30:59Speaker 2: to get to Disneyland Paris.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I don't know how your train system works. I was
- 31:06Speaker 2: just asking for help.
- 31:07Speaker 4: You could always use Google Translate there, Toby. I did.
- 31:11Speaker 2: That didn't help. Steven, you say you've experienced some rudeness?
- 31:18Speaker 5: I was at this charming little shop in London and
- 31:21Speaker 5: someone cut the entire line and then they acted like
- 31:24Speaker 5: I was the rude one for saying something.
- 31:26Speaker 4: What did you do?
- 31:27Speaker 1: I was so shocked.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I just stood there thinking, did that really just happen?
- 31:33Speaker 4: Oh my, did you give them lip back?
- 31:35Speaker 2: I just let it go.
- 31:36Speaker 5: If everyone else was okay with it, I wasn't going
- 31:39Speaker 5: to say anything more.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Ha!
- 31:43Speaker 2: We celebrate our diversity here in the United States of America.

- 31:50Speaker 2: And as such, there's a list that breaks it all
- 31:53Speaker 2: down when it comes to diverse states.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Wallet Hub says that California, once again, takes the top
- 31:59Speaker 3: spot for the most diverse state.

- 32:27Speaker 3: It's a free event, garden-themed art, science activities, even a

- 32:33Speaker 2: Wait a minute. You said a puppet show? I'm a little... Sorta,
- 32:37Speaker 2: can I go? 97.1 Wash FM. Don't forget, before the
- 32:42Speaker 2: big games start on Sunday, we'll be over at Rio

- 33:20Speaker 4: Today.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Yes, from Steve Winwood, the song Higher Love, back in 86.
- 33:27Speaker 2: That's right. It says, bring me a higher love, oh yeah.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Sometimes we need a reminder that we deserve more than
