- 0:05Speaker 1: Waking up with you. It's Sonia and Joakim.
- 0:09Speaker 1: On the shock circuit on 987. So earlier on, I
- 0:12Speaker 1: was saying, um, this started off as a face palm
- 0:15Speaker 1: worthy moment. Then you realize, whoa, there's some actual um
- 0:20Speaker 1: punishment behind it. OK. And it's got to do with
- 0:23Speaker 1: AI and it happened here in Singapore.
- 0:27Speaker 1: So, um, in August, I'm not sure if you remember this, uh,
- 0:30Speaker 1: there was like a notification that there was a site,
- 0:34Speaker 1: a crocodile sighting in Pandan Reservoir. I don't know if
- 0:37Speaker 1: you remember this, but yeah, late August there was no
- 0:39Speaker 1: kind of panic a little bit panicked, yeah, yeah, and then,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know, many members of the public were kind of,
- 0:45Speaker 1: you know, anxious about it and they were advised to
- 0:48Speaker 1: exercise caution.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Remain calm if you do see it, but activities around
- 0:51Speaker 1: the reservoir were suspended for a while. And some were
- 0:54Speaker 1: speculating crocodile was it? Was it the one from Sungai Bulo, our,
- 1:00Speaker 1: our bestie, right? Sometimes making an appearance, but no, it
- 1:04Speaker 1: was actually all thanks to a fake image. So so
- 1:08Speaker 1: face palm worthy because this man.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Um, he decided to Photoshop or AI in a crocodile
- 1:16Speaker 1: into this picture of the reservoir and sent it to
- 1:19Speaker 1: his friend at work, OK. As you know with these things, right,
- 1:22Speaker 1: it will spread like wildfire really quick. People like to
- 1:25Speaker 1: just press forward and then forward to like 10 or
- 1:27Speaker 1: 20 other group chats, something along those lines, right? OK, wait, actually, wait,
- 1:31Speaker 1: if I was the guy that did the, the crocodile
- 1:34Speaker 1: and Pandan Reservoir, and I sent it to you, would
- 1:37Speaker 1: I say, hey, hey, look at what I did. It's
- 1:38Speaker 1: a joke. Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Exactly. So I think he didn't. He didn't. I think
- 1:43Speaker 1: it was no context. So it obviously that's why people
- 1:46Speaker 1: thought it was real. Maybe he said it too late.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Not all, not a lot of details about the private
- 1:50Speaker 1: conversation were revealed, but what was revealed was that he
- 1:53Speaker 1: attempted to delete the image to cover up his tracks.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But as you know, things that are sent out there
- 1:59Speaker 1: into the, not just the social media space, but your
- 2:01Speaker 1: chat groups, is pretty much there forever. I don't think
- 2:05Speaker 1: he just sent it to one friend. Perhaps a few.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Maybe, maybe he was testing to see if they could
- 2:12Speaker 1: tell if it was AI. Therefore, he didn't say anything.
- 2:15Speaker 1: He's like revealing it later. I don't know. Well, the
- 2:18Speaker 1: fact that most of us actually believe that there was
- 2:20Speaker 1: a crocodile in Pandan Reservoir and actually closed activities for
- 2:23Speaker 1: a while, quite a good picture. Yeah, it also shows
- 2:26Speaker 1: the detriments of AI if we really don't verify facts
- 2:30Speaker 1: like that. So, uh, the police said they're not gonna
- 2:32Speaker 1: hesitate to take action against anyone who does this, by
- 2:34Speaker 1: the way. So just so you know, the next time
- 2:38Speaker 1: you feel like.
- 2:39Speaker 1: AIing some random picture of something that's not real, you
- 2:42Speaker 1: might want to think twice. So you know now all
- 2:44Speaker 1: those accounts on TikTok, they actually create AI videos of
- 2:48Speaker 1: real life dramas. I get sucked in. Yeah, I see
- 2:51Speaker 1: a lot of the boys to firemen videos, for example,
- 2:55Speaker 1: where the AI or AI check you and all that, right? OK.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I wonder if they were to take action and sue
- 3:00Speaker 1: the account. Like how would that work out, right? Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I don't know. That would be interesting to see, but, um,
- 3:05Speaker 1: for what it's worth, it's great publicity for them for now.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, if it's not doing any harm or spinning
- 3:11Speaker 1: any falsehoods and no one's complained, I don't know, man,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but it can be seen as a bit of bullying,
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, if you're always gonna make someone the butt
- 3:19Speaker 1: of all jokes and publicly put it on an AI
- 3:22Speaker 1: platform like that, yeah, maybe they're on it, you don't know. OK,
- 3:25Speaker 1: congratulations are in order to Loan Yu, who's actually in
- 3:30Speaker 1: the finals.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Of the Asian Games badminton event. This is, this is
- 3:37Speaker 1: a record, right? Yeah, yeah. So it's more or less
- 3:40Speaker 1: guaranteed a silver medal for Singapore in the Asian Games,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but knowing he's gonna go for gold, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So he takes on Vittison of Thailand and look, the
- 3:51Speaker 1: one thing and the one problem I have with the
- 3:53Speaker 1: Asian Games, I'm on the official site, right? I clicked
- 3:57Speaker 1: on men's singles final.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I'm trying to find the timings. It's today. Oh, but
- 4:02Speaker 1: the timing is not listed, I wonder what time it's
- 4:04Speaker 1: gonna be. So maybe even on Team Singapore's page it
- 4:06Speaker 1: might be available. I'm gonna check in a better bet
- 4:09Speaker 1: is they update Instagram quite often. Yeah. So you might
- 4:12Speaker 1: want to go there and see. So we, we do
- 4:14Speaker 1: know he is in action today. The moment I get
- 4:17Speaker 1: the timings officially, I'll let you know here on 987.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yo man, I gotta say some of his rallies that
- 4:22Speaker 1: were posted up, uh, from the recent rounds on social media.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It was so heart-stopping. It was so fast. Their reaction
- 4:31Speaker 1: time is like insane. I was clenching the whole time.
- 4:34Speaker 1: My entire body was like clenching. Yeah, badminton is a
- 4:37Speaker 1: very sport. Yeah. So all the best. Can you cannot
- 4:42Speaker 1: wait to see whether we bring the gold home for Singapore,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but nevertheless, I'm very sure all of us are proud
- 4:48Speaker 1: of you. Yes, we are so proud of each and
- 4:49Speaker 1: every one of all the Singapore athletes.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So keep watching, keep supporting, be it on ground. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: think some Singaporeans are actually on ground and some, you know,
- 5:00Speaker 1: even on socials, if you can just leave a comment,
- 5:02Speaker 1: like or share, that would be great. So we go
- 5:04Speaker 1: from Asian Games to the FIFA ASEAN Cup. Congrats to
- 5:08Speaker 1: our boys winning 1-0 against Bangladesh. Actually, I, I saw
- 5:11Speaker 1: that um from my friend.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Oh yes, she's there, she's, yeah, yeah, yeah, because I
- 5:18Speaker 1: was following it. I think our next opponents for the
- 5:21Speaker 1: FIFA ASEAN Cup could be our Causeway rivals. Oh wow, Malaysia. OK,
- 5:26Speaker 1: that'll be a big one. I believe we're still in
- 5:28Speaker 1: exam season right now. Well, at 10:00 a.m. today we're
- 5:32Speaker 1: gonna hear cheers from the majority of those.
- 5:35Speaker 1: For taking the PSLE because it's the last paper. Science
- 5:39Speaker 1: paper one from 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. What about
- 5:44Speaker 1: higher mother tongue? That's tomorrow. OK, so it's still not
- 5:46Speaker 1: technically the last paper, for most majority of P6s might
- 5:51Speaker 1: not do higher mother tongue. The one is if you
- 5:53Speaker 1: really want to pursue a job, is it?
- 5:56Speaker 1: In future, OK, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: build diplomatic relations with Singapore. Here's a good start for you,
- 6:04Speaker 1: your mother tongue. Yeah, but regardless, uh, for majority of you,
- 6:07Speaker 1: if today is the last paper, yeah, hang in there,
- 6:10Speaker 1: do your best, and then you can celebrate. So you
- 6:12Speaker 1: can either call us at 669-119-87 or you can WhatsApp
- 6:17Speaker 1: us at 9005097. Send us your messages of love to
- 6:22Speaker 1: someone doing their PSLE.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Even your exams in secondary school, ITE, poly or JC. Yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 1: if you want to send us a text to go
- 6:30Speaker 1: ahead and do that, you know, we'll be very happy
- 6:32Speaker 1: to read it out for you as well. Got a
- 6:33Speaker 1: very sweet text coming in from Yanin. So, go ahead.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Hey guys, I'm a PSLE student taking science today, and
- 6:40Speaker 1: I want to shout out to all my friends and
- 6:42Speaker 1: classmates at Holy Innocents Primary School that the paper is
- 6:45Speaker 1: very easy and has everything we already revised for no
- 6:49Speaker 1: trick questions.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Remember what my dad always used to say? You trick
- 6:54Speaker 1: the question, don't let the Christian trick you. It doesn't
- 6:57Speaker 1: make sense, but it makes sense at the same time.
- 6:59Speaker 1: One more coming in from Oscar. Hello 987. I want
- 7:02Speaker 1: to wish the P6s good luck for their last paper
- 7:05Speaker 1: or second last for the ones taking their higher mother tongue. Alright, well,
- 7:10Speaker 1: we also have someone on the line right now. Hello,
- 7:12Speaker 1: good morning. Good morning. It's Y. Hello. Which school are
- 7:16Speaker 1: you from? And are you doing?
- 7:19Speaker 1: PSA today as well your way? What level are you in? E5. 0,
- 7:23Speaker 1: just one more year. OK. Anything you want to say
- 7:26Speaker 1: or dedicate on air? I hope the P6 get good
- 7:28Speaker 1: grades and they get to the school they want. Oh, alright,
- 7:33Speaker 1: good karma always follow you then your way. Uh, do
- 7:36Speaker 1: you have exams coming up? Yeah, today is my aura.
- 7:39Speaker 1: All the best for that. Good luck and we, we
- 7:42Speaker 1: hope that we can celebrate with you soon, OK? OK.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Have a nice day, Yowei. Bye-bye.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Bye. And I asked you earlier if you were to
- 7:50Speaker 1: ever get scammed, at what point do you feel you'll realize, hey,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I think I'm getting scammed. Again, this is a come
- 7:57Speaker 1: get me sort of phrase, but it isn't. I think
- 8:00Speaker 1: I've been very vigilant enough. It is a come get
- 8:03Speaker 1: me statement. No, I mean, I'll check every single email,
- 8:07Speaker 1: the link. I'll make.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Make sure my mom doesn't doesn't get scammed as well.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So I've been very vigilant. I understand, but as much
- 8:13Speaker 1: as you say that you see in the news, yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 1: like there are like professionals around our age, you know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: and it's not even an age thing anymore. Like people
- 8:22Speaker 1: just get fooled because they're too busy to verify things.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And was it Steve last week he said that even
- 8:27Speaker 1: a financial advisor.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Exactly, yeah. That's how sophisticated it is now, but this
- 8:34Speaker 1: one I feel can be quite tricky because it did
- 8:37Speaker 1: sound like a business opportunity, OK. So, as you know,
- 8:40Speaker 1: Rackett Sports has taken Southeast Asia over by storm. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: if you go to places like Bali or Thailand, right,
- 8:48Speaker 1: because they have the space and the land and it's
- 8:50Speaker 1: much cheaper to build like
- 8:51Speaker 1: Um, pickle or paddle courts or tennis courts there. It
- 8:54Speaker 1: has sprouted up like crazy. A lot of courts, a
- 8:57Speaker 1: lot of like merchandise are coming out of there. Yes,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and I know friends who are actually going to Bali
- 9:02Speaker 1: or Phuket for a weekend, yes, to play paddle or pickleballaddle, yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So I mean, I went, I did that in Bali.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It was actually really fun because you can do other things.
- 9:12Speaker 1: It's not just about that, right? But this guy, he's Singaporean.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Unfortunately, he has an interest, OK. He has a big
- 9:20Speaker 1: interest in racket sports and he, he has loved it.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He's since picked up all kinds of racket sports, including paddle,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and um he actually met this woman when he was
- 9:29Speaker 1: in Indonesia for I'm guessing his own vacation or his
- 9:34Speaker 1: own holiday or maybe a racket sports weekend or something.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So he goes there quite regularly and in hindsight has
- 9:42Speaker 1: realized that this woman might be operating under a false name, OK.
- 9:46Speaker 1: So she convinced him to invest a certain amount of
- 9:50Speaker 1: money to start a business when it comes to uh merchandise,
- 9:55Speaker 1: merchandise for racket sports. So like, you know, a bags,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you know, those tennis or paddle bags and all that, and,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and things that are manufactured overseas. Yes, exactly, and convince
- 10:08Speaker 1: him to do it. So initially it was like, OK,
- 10:10Speaker 1: you have to contribute, um, you know, small amounts of
- 10:13Speaker 1: money for the business and all that.
- 10:15Speaker 1: And um he started noticing, oh, OK, people are ordering
- 10:18Speaker 1: like paddle covers, towels, you know, sportswear, mugs, bikinis. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: clients range from individuals to like paddle courts based in Bali.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But then I think one of the red flags was
- 10:29Speaker 1: when he realized, why is this Pilates studio ordering so
- 10:34Speaker 1: many paddle bags from me?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Which is something that he flagged. No, I think it's
- 10:41Speaker 1: one of those things where it's fake orders, boss orders
- 10:45Speaker 1: and um I don't know how they operate back or
- 10:48Speaker 1: how many people are involved, but that's how they scam
- 10:50Speaker 1: him of his money.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Eventually, he transferred and invested about $368,000 in this sports
- 10:58Speaker 1: business with this mystery of a woman in Bali, and
- 11:02Speaker 1: he fears that he may not be able to recover
- 11:05Speaker 1: the money back at this point.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But hey man, I mean, look, I don't know how
- 11:09Speaker 1: much he's able to recover, but hopefully at least some amount.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It does. I mean. Yeah, so the banks can help
- 11:19Speaker 1: because I think he's made many transfers at this point.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Hopefully the bank can help him recover something like this.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah, because if it's many transfers, I think in the
- 11:28Speaker 1: article it says over 84 bank transfers, amounting to almost $368,000.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Absolutely nuts. Hey, be very careful, man. Like just because
- 11:39Speaker 1: you may be very interested in a sports or a
- 11:43Speaker 1: type of like hobby or passion.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Be, be extremely alert because that's where people prey on you.
- 11:49Speaker 1: It's a reminder to ourselves as well to do your
- 11:51Speaker 1: research before you make any transfer of any sort. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and another most common one, Pokemon cards. A lot of
- 11:59Speaker 1: scams with that right now. On the back of the
- 12:02Speaker 1: announcement of way more being made available in Singapore very soon,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and I think they're testing it out right now. So
- 12:09Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong,
- 12:10Speaker 1: be speculation, but the way they test it is they
- 12:13Speaker 1: have drivers actually in the car manually driving it to
- 12:16Speaker 1: make sure they plot out the routes and the maps
- 12:18Speaker 1: correctly and then satellites, when it's ready, they will do
- 12:22Speaker 1: the autonomous driving, but of course someone is sitting at
- 12:24Speaker 1: the driver's seat just in case anything were to happen. Oh,
- 12:27Speaker 1: is that what's gonna happen for the testing stages? I
- 12:30Speaker 1: mean for the testing, I mean, you want to monitor it, right,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and not cause any accidents where people will say, ah, see.
- 12:35Speaker 1: See, put AI or put AV somewhere, you know what
- 12:38Speaker 1: I mean? And in the comment section, people are wondering, oh,
- 12:41Speaker 1: are drivers gonna get replaced, you know, with, with the
- 12:45Speaker 1: incoming AVs and all that. So I believe the government,
- 12:48Speaker 1: they actually announced some career pathways and career transitions where,
- 12:53Speaker 1: for example, if you want to take charge of the
- 12:56Speaker 1: safety or the monitor programs for the autonomous vehicles, you
- 12:59Speaker 1: can do so.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And then there is a new career path for taxi
- 13:03Speaker 1: drivers or private hire vehicle drivers. If they feel like, hey,
- 13:08Speaker 1: maybe I wanna go somewhere else where I feel secure, right?
- 13:11Speaker 1: How about being a bus driver? OK, so they offer.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They will help you transition. I think they will sponsor
- 13:17Speaker 1: some of your training fees as well. Or if you
- 13:20Speaker 1: already have a Class 4 license, it could be spelled
- 13:22Speaker 1: out quite quickly for you. Can I ask though, like,
- 13:24Speaker 1: did they ever provide a reason why they decided to
- 13:27Speaker 1: bring Wei to Singapore?
- 13:29Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's huge overseas, like I always
- 13:31Speaker 1: mentioned to you, that's how I got to experience it,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and it started years ago, right? We're actually late to
- 13:37Speaker 1: adopt it, but is there a reason why they didn't
- 13:40Speaker 1: provide one? Maybe it's what you just said, we are
- 13:42Speaker 1: late to adopt something and perhaps maybe to keep up
- 13:46Speaker 1: with the times.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And not just that, I think I saw um there
- 13:50Speaker 1: was an article a few days ago about how, I mean,
- 13:53Speaker 1: we already know Singapore is an aging population, right? But it's,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's accelerating a little bit more now because of, well, low,
- 14:01Speaker 1: low childbirth rates. So yeah. So, you know, I think.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Very soon, a lot of your taxi uncles, right, might
- 14:12Speaker 1: retire and they want to just relax and chill. So maybe,
- 14:22Speaker 1: maybe I'm looking forward to when it comes to more
- 14:25Speaker 1: autonomous vehicles and all that, you know how sometimes you
- 14:28Speaker 1: have your taxi uncles or your, you know, private hire drivers, right?
- 14:33Speaker 1: For example, let's just say you finish a night out
- 14:36Speaker 1: with your friends and you're still very sober, OK, and
- 14:39Speaker 1: maybe you party at Clark Quay but you stay somewhere
- 14:42Speaker 1: in Jurong, OK, OK. Most taxis or private hire vehicles,
- 14:48Speaker 1: they see your address, they might not take your job. Why?
- 14:51Speaker 1: Maybe different locations. Maybe they want to travel back to
- 14:54Speaker 1: the east or the north. So with the way more
- 14:57Speaker 1: and the AVs, right, and given how it's an AV.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Right, they have no choice. I don't expect to be,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean? True, true, true. Although I
- 15:07Speaker 1: will say I've experienced that less and less now. I mean,
- 15:10Speaker 1: most of the time when you use your platforms to book,
- 15:13Speaker 1: they already know where you're going unless you're flagging from
- 15:16Speaker 1: the taxi stand, I guess, right? Then it's dependent on
- 15:19Speaker 1: where the taxi uncle is going. Yeah, I remember it
- 15:24Speaker 1: used to be because uh back then when like we
- 15:27Speaker 1: would call a grab bag, right, or a private hire
- 15:29Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And if it's waiting, if we're waiting too long for one,
- 15:33Speaker 1: we'll walk to the taxi stand to see like which
- 15:35Speaker 1: cars are going where. And the moment you see like
- 15:38Speaker 1: your area flashing up, you're like, yes.
- 15:41Speaker 1: It feels like you want something, you know, and what's
- 15:44Speaker 1: the sweeter feeling is, for example, there are 5 people
- 15:47Speaker 1: in front of you and you got that one that's
- 15:48Speaker 1: a shortcut, right? VIP.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So, um, in case you just joined us and you're
- 15:54Speaker 1: wondering whether it's very hazy or not here this morning.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I think by the looks of our PSI which we've
- 16:00Speaker 1: been updating every hour, but it has since changed since
- 16:04Speaker 1: I updated it at the top of this hour at 7.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Currently it's between 101 to 155, which has already gone
- 16:11Speaker 1: into the unhealthy range. Um, I think that, you know,
- 16:15Speaker 1: just like you use a thermometer to test the temperature, right?
- 16:18Speaker 1: My nose is the indicator on whether things are getting bad.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'm just like having a sneezing fit the whole morning.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So yesterday, got into my running gear, left my house
- 16:29Speaker 1: for a bit, and in Bishan, right?
- 16:32Speaker 1: What I use as a barometer is whether can I
- 16:34Speaker 1: see the Catholic high clock tower. Oh, if it's, if
- 16:36Speaker 1: it's murky, then it was very murky, and I, OK, no,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'm not gonna run, and I checked the PSI yesterday. Yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it was above 100, and I think loads of clubs
- 16:46Speaker 1: here in Singapore have canceled their Monday night trainings and
- 16:49Speaker 1: the half marathon got reduced, right? Yeah, over the weekend
- 16:53Speaker 1: over the weekend and thankfully the runners actually understood it,
- 16:56Speaker 1: of course.
- 16:58Speaker 1: The majority of them did some are asking for refunds
- 17:00Speaker 1: and all and stuff. My, my mom just texted me.
- 17:03Speaker 1: She said, yeah, my Lauren got canceled this morning because
- 17:07Speaker 1: of the haze. She means like it's like a, like
- 17:10Speaker 1: an aerobics Tai Chi class in the morning. But you
- 17:12Speaker 1: know what, now is a boom season for all your
- 17:15Speaker 1: active SG gyms. I think people are going to go
- 17:18Speaker 1: there and take advantage of it being indoors to run
- 17:20Speaker 1: on treadmills or whatsoever. So please observe good gym etiquette.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Hey, if you have uh sinus issues like myself, don't
- 17:27Speaker 1: be shy to like wear a mask or something out
- 17:29Speaker 1: there because I did notice a few people actually masked
- 17:32Speaker 1: up and walking around because, you know, you just don't
- 17:35Speaker 1: want to be, if you're easily affected, you just don't
- 17:37Speaker 1: want the hassle. And for me, when I went to
- 17:39Speaker 1: the doctor yesterday, he said, OK, this is, it's a
- 17:42Speaker 1: sinus infection, um, easily diagnosed, but he was like, it's
- 17:45Speaker 1: not that bad yet, but you're gonna need to like
- 17:48Speaker 1: get take much stronger antihistamines during this time.
- 17:51Speaker 1: So that's, that's the chronic issue that I have to
- 17:53Speaker 1: live with. And to pet owners, please look out for
- 17:55Speaker 1: your furry babies, OK? And also sending love to our
- 17:59Speaker 1: friends who actually live very near the hotspots over at
- 18:03Speaker 1: the affected areas. I mean, if we are complaining and
- 18:05Speaker 1: suffering at the PSI being above above 100, can't imagine
- 18:08Speaker 1: them right at the source itself. And not just that, um,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I was texting all my friends who live in Bangkok
- 18:14Speaker 1: like to check in on them. Oh yeah, the flood.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Quite, yeah, it was quite scary when I saw the
- 18:18Speaker 1: news a few days ago. So lots happening in the world,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but in the meantime, we do what we can do
- 18:23Speaker 1: here in Singapore. Just make sure that you keep healthy.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I remember sometime last week we did a talk set
- 18:29Speaker 1: and we shared our views about reviews. Yes, on Google
- 18:34Speaker 1: because of someone posting fake reviews and all that and
- 18:37Speaker 1: even sometimes, right, for one business to sabo another business.
- 18:41Speaker 1: There's like a Google review bombard of one-star reviews and
- 18:44Speaker 1: all that, right? Yeah, yeah, um, so apparently I think,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I don't know why we are, we are entering the
- 18:51Speaker 1: phase where some of your media outlets, right, they are
- 18:53Speaker 1: doing investigative journalism. OK. Our friends over at Mothership were
- 18:57Speaker 1: covering something about whether our malls having too much of
- 19:01Speaker 1: China brands in it. Quite an interesting read, and I
- 19:03Speaker 1: think one also from our mainstream media about.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Restaurants or funeral parlors or even divorce lawyers right using
- 19:12Speaker 1: paid bought reviews to review their services that you can
- 19:16Speaker 1: get off Carousel. What? And the listing on the media
- 19:22Speaker 1: page says $1 per review.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Oh my God. So some of these people actually buy
- 19:27Speaker 1: these reviews. They buy like 5 or 10. It's quite cheap,
- 19:31Speaker 1: $10.05 dollars for a good 5-star review. What on earth
- 19:34Speaker 1: are we living, living in this idiot age right now?
- 19:37Speaker 1: But here's my question. Are you surprised? I'm not surprised.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'm surprised that they would buy it off Carousel, but
- 19:44Speaker 1: you know there was also a case of this guy
- 19:46Speaker 1: that engaged a lawyer on Carousel and turned out to
- 19:49Speaker 1: be a
- 19:49Speaker 1: Scam, right? Yes, yeah. So again, when it comes to
- 19:53Speaker 1: reading reviews and going to a place based on reviews,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'm very skeptical. Yeah, because again, you never know it
- 20:01Speaker 1: could be someone hiding behind 10 different email addresses, typing in, oh, wow,
- 20:07Speaker 1: very nice service. Uh, look for this guy or look
- 20:09Speaker 1: for this girl you know what, we will be our
- 20:12Speaker 1: own critic. I feel like for you.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You and me, we, we're the kind that like, even
- 20:16Speaker 1: though people say it's bad or it's good or whatever,
- 20:18Speaker 1: we still have to go and be the judge of
- 20:19Speaker 1: it ourselves. Yeah, it's so subjective. And by the way,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say this, it's not just businesses who
- 20:25Speaker 1: are using Google reviews. Yeah. What else is it's all
- 20:29Speaker 1: over social media. I'm not gonna say anything unless I
- 20:32Speaker 1: get in trouble. Wait, tell me off air. I'll tell
- 20:34Speaker 1: you off air. Yes, yeah. So early on, I was just, um,
- 20:37Speaker 1: sharing with Joakim that
- 20:39Speaker 1: Over the weekend I was desperate for like a foot massage, specifically, OK,
- 20:44Speaker 1: 5 in 1. OK, I don't want to do like
- 20:46Speaker 1: the whole full body massage, but I just want mainly
- 20:49Speaker 1: like the feet, um, they do like, like your calf
- 20:51Speaker 1: area as well, and then your neck, shoulders, and back.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Can I ask, with your right ankle the way it is,
- 20:57Speaker 1: do you say a chingching? No, I said, uh, sipian.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Don't press here.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Don't press here. And then he was like trying to
- 21:08Speaker 1: ask why. I was like, uh, so sang, so sang,
- 21:11Speaker 1: so so shang.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Yes. We, we understood it. Yes, injured. Yeah. He, he
- 21:18Speaker 1: was fine. He was alert about it. He didn't touch
- 21:20Speaker 1: that area just in case, yeah. But everything was great,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you know, because I, I specifically like this um outlet
- 21:26Speaker 1: because it's a little quieter and it's very easy to
- 21:29Speaker 1: park in this building. Fair enough. I can be, I
- 21:32Speaker 1: can be clear with you about this one. It's at
- 21:34Speaker 1: Valley Point. Nature land at Valley Point, OK? Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And uh I, I, I felt like, OK, that was
- 21:40Speaker 1: always the go to place like if I'm in town area, um,
- 21:44Speaker 1: you know, and I want a massage, I think that
- 21:45Speaker 1: that's definitely where I will go. Unfortunately, when we stepped
- 21:48Speaker 1: out of the store,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I saw a sign just at the exit area that
- 21:54Speaker 1: said that they're closing soon. And this already comes on
- 21:58Speaker 1: the back of like another Nature land closing near um
- 22:02Speaker 1: our place as well. So I, I was just like, no,
- 22:05Speaker 1: yet another one's closing. Where are they moving to Paragon.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Which is like further in Orchard itself and it's harder
- 22:12Speaker 1: to park and access. Paragon, I wonder. I, I don't
- 22:16Speaker 1: know actually. I mean, I don't know yet. Maybe there's
- 22:18Speaker 1: some shuffling around. Like I feel Paragon, and it's the
- 22:21Speaker 1: site for me.
- 22:27Speaker 1: So I don't know where they will be, but, um,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I just felt, uh, I just felt just like, uh,
- 22:34Speaker 1: them and, you know, kind of feeling because two outlets
- 22:37Speaker 1: that I used to enjoy going to are just now closed.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Just a tongue in cheek joke about Nature and Paragon, right?
- 22:43Speaker 1: They're gonna do what they can to attract all the doctors.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Mount Elizabeth and Paragon Medical Center. Doctor, you come, come, come,
- 22:51Speaker 1: massage you for a bit. That's the thing. So they
- 22:53Speaker 1: used to open like late, right? But they've since changed
- 22:57Speaker 1: their opening timings. I wonder whether anything will be different
- 22:59Speaker 1: with their new outlet. But anyway, um, this got me
- 23:02Speaker 1: thinking about all the times where, you know, you get
- 23:04Speaker 1: used to something that's near your area or where you
- 23:07Speaker 1: live or the area that you frequent, maybe even your office,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and one day, this place just shuts down.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Has this ever happened to you before? Yes, which one?
- 23:17Speaker 1: Pasta Mania Junction 8. He hasn't let that go yet,
- 23:20Speaker 1: by the way. Guys, come back. Please come back, huh.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Ever since you all left, so many stores have taken
- 23:28Speaker 1: over the place. There was a, there was a fire
- 23:30Speaker 1: that broke out over at Junction 8 as well. See,
- 23:32Speaker 1: all this happened because you all left. Hold on, hold on,
- 23:35Speaker 1: hold on. The fire broke out at the same. No, no,
- 23:37Speaker 1: the store 2 stores down.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Just finding some excuse, you know, trying to be dramatic
- 23:43Speaker 1: to bring them back to Junction 8. Yes, I don't
- 23:46Speaker 1: know if they can come back just for one person,
- 23:48Speaker 1: but you know, how about learn how to cook some
- 23:50Speaker 1: pasta instead? I tried the same lah. Oh no, OK. Again, again,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I have my uses, yes, just not in the cooking
- 23:59Speaker 1: is not one of them. Yeah, I can follow instructions.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I can do the dishes. OK, good. Fine, fine, fine.
- 24:04Speaker 1: If we were roommates, it will work out. Yeah. Anyway,
- 24:06Speaker 1: give us a call 6691.
- 24:08Speaker 1: 1987 or drop us a message 90050987. Um, after hearing
- 24:14Speaker 1: our stories, has this ever happened to you before? Something
- 24:17Speaker 1: that you love to go to all the time or
- 24:19Speaker 1: a place that you frequent, maybe near your house or
- 24:21Speaker 1: near your office or workplace or whatever, and then one
- 24:24Speaker 1: day it shuts down. OK, to, to give you maybe
- 24:27Speaker 1: a better answer, right, um, because Kallang Wave Mall, they're
- 24:31Speaker 1: going through a bit of renovation and revamp and all that,
- 24:34Speaker 1: so the place where I go to get my spot.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Massage done. OK. I want to give a shout out
- 24:38Speaker 1: to Boon of Sports Zone. Uh, they've now shifted over
- 24:42Speaker 1: to Tampines Safra. Oh no, that's quite far off from
- 24:45Speaker 1: where they were. Yeah, so, so from Bishan to stadium
- 24:48Speaker 1: there's like a direct train and I can also go
- 24:49Speaker 1: for my run or run first and go and get
- 24:51Speaker 1: sports massage. But now Tampines Safra change train you still
- 24:54Speaker 1: go there, yeah, because he's very good, at least in
- 24:57Speaker 1: my opinion he's great, even though I go there and
- 24:59Speaker 1: cry all the time. We sent me a video of
- 25:03Speaker 1: him sobbing.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Like from a sports massage, and then after that, my
- 25:09Speaker 1: IG and TikTok algorithm became sports people getting sports massages.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I swear it's listening. I'm sure it is. Anyway, like
- 25:16Speaker 1: we said, give us a call 669-11987 or drop us
- 25:20Speaker 1: a message 90050987. Have you ever experienced a beloved shop
- 25:25Speaker 1: that you always go to close down near you? Or
- 25:28Speaker 1: maybe you can tell us about
- 25:30Speaker 1: Um, the shop that you'd be very sad if it
- 25:33Speaker 1: ever closes. You can also tell us in that direction. Yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 1: We're talking about the shops that might have been in
- 25:39Speaker 1: your neighborhood for the longest time.
- 25:41Speaker 1: That you always frequent. It could be, I don't know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: mama shop. It could be a place where you eat
- 25:46Speaker 1: at a cafe or maybe a massage place like what
- 25:48Speaker 1: I said earlier, and then one day they decide to close.
- 25:51Speaker 1: How did that make you feel? Nando's Junction 8, come back, please.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Why so many things that Junction 8 closed? I didn't
- 25:58Speaker 1: realize Pastamania is gone. Nando's has got, uh, Shake Shack
- 26:02Speaker 1: took over Nando's. Ah, OK, OK, OK. If you think
- 26:04Speaker 1: about it. Anyway, I wanna go to some text messages
- 26:08Speaker 1: right now and say.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Saying hello to Liz. Liz says, Morning, Sojo. I used
- 26:12Speaker 1: to work around Kambangan, and almost every day I'll go
- 26:15Speaker 1: to this Vietnamese stall. They sell super awesome beef soup noodles.
- 26:20Speaker 1: When I got married and expecting my first child, I
- 26:22Speaker 1: was craving for their beef soup noodles. My husband and
- 26:25Speaker 1: I made the trip to Kambangan, but the store was
- 26:27Speaker 1: no longer around, so we settled with something soupy nearby.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Have a great day y'all. Yeah, but I, I understand
- 26:33Speaker 1: that because there was this um.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Teochew Porridge Place at the Outram area and it was
- 26:39Speaker 1: like a, they opened quite late and it was always
- 26:42Speaker 1: like the go to comfort food place. One day, um,
- 26:45Speaker 1: you know, Jeremy and I pulled up and we drove there.
- 26:47Speaker 1: We found a magical parking lot somewhere like right, right
- 26:50Speaker 1: in front of the stretch of uh shophouses. OK. I
- 26:54Speaker 1: got down and you know, me being quite blur sometimes, right?
- 26:56Speaker 1: I'm like,
- 26:57Speaker 1: What was the unit? Where was the unit? Ah? Was
- 26:59Speaker 1: it here or at the end? Or he looks at me.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He goes, We're standing in front of it. I looked
- 27:03Speaker 1: at it, gated up, closed. There was a sign in
- 27:06Speaker 1: front that said they had, you know, they had shut down.
- 27:08Speaker 1: So I was like, No, my favorite Teohuwai.
- 27:13Speaker 1: One coming in from Yanti. Yanti says, Hello, good morning, guys.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I live in Sengkang. Normally when I want to go
- 27:19Speaker 1: to Batam and I'm craving for Western food, I will
- 27:22Speaker 1: go to Harborfront Center. So I normally will eat there
- 27:26Speaker 1: while waiting for my ferry. There's a very nice kopitia there.
- 27:29Speaker 1: The food's really good, but when I heard the Kopitia
- 27:31Speaker 1: shut down, it hurt me. I got nowhere else to eat. No,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's true. No, we have deep feelings about these things.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Sometimes these aunties and uncles who are running the shop,
- 27:41Speaker 1: they don't know the kind of impact they've made on us. sentimental.
- 27:46Speaker 1: When we come back, more of your messages and calls
- 27:48Speaker 1: as well. The question is, in case you just joined us,
- 27:50Speaker 1: have you ever experienced a time where, you know, you
- 27:52Speaker 1: grew up with um your favorite shop near you? Could
- 27:55Speaker 1: be an eating place, could be a cafe, could be,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I don't know, like a mama shop or something.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And then one day it just closed. How did that
- 28:00Speaker 1: make you feel? I, I got one more carrot cake,
- 28:07Speaker 1: which is also in Bishan. Yeah, I know. Talking about
- 28:11Speaker 1: the places that, you know, we grew up just going
- 28:13Speaker 1: to very often could be food, drinks or a service, whatever,
- 28:18Speaker 1: and then one day it just closes. How did that
- 28:20Speaker 1: make you feel?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Hello to Johans, who has given us a place on
- 28:25Speaker 1: it where maybe we might have some memories there as well. Timber. Oh,
- 28:29Speaker 1: at substation at Arts. Is that substation? The one that, no, sorry,
- 28:33Speaker 1: the one by the Singapore River. Yeah, yeah. So two
- 28:37Speaker 1: iconic ones closed. One was substation and one is the
- 28:40Speaker 1: Arts house. I was more of a substation guy and
- 28:42Speaker 1: then with you I had a drink.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I remember this a nice adding a wipe before they closed.
- 28:47Speaker 1: It was, I think it was after one of our
- 28:50Speaker 1: NDP rehearsals 2024, yeah, yeah. One more coming in from
- 28:54Speaker 1: Vincent saying, Hey, Sonia and Joakim, I'm vegetarian and I
- 28:58Speaker 1: work around Havelock. So last time I will always go
- 29:00Speaker 1: to People's Park for lunch. There's this vegetarian store that
- 29:03Speaker 1: I really like, so I eat there almost every day,
- 29:06Speaker 1: became very familiar.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Familiar with the auntie and uncle. Then one day I
- 29:09Speaker 1: went there for lunch as usual. Eh, the stall disappeared.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I looked around thinking maybe I went to the wrong place,
- 29:15Speaker 1: but no, it's really gone. No notice, no announcement, nothing,
- 29:20Speaker 1: just poof. Oh man, you know, like if I were
- 29:23Speaker 1: the owners, right, I will feel so sad to say
- 29:26Speaker 1: goodbye to the regulars because they become like your friends, right?
- 29:29Speaker 1: Like how.
- 29:30Speaker 1: How would I have done it? Maybe put a notice
- 29:32Speaker 1: or a note or something? Yeah, and most of our
- 29:35Speaker 1: hawkers who are maybe in the, they, they might not
- 29:39Speaker 1: be so social media savvy. They won't know how to
- 29:41Speaker 1: put up a post because they already have their regulars. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It's if you know, you know kind of place, right? OK,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Audrey is on the line. What about you?
- 29:49Speaker 2: So, um, my husband and I, we actually frequent this
- 29:52Speaker 2: outlet called So Ti So Nice at Seletar Mall, and
- 29:56Speaker 2: it closed. Yeah, I think it closed around.
- 29:58Speaker 2: COVID period.
- 30:01Speaker 1: No. Wait, so how long, how long were you going
- 30:03Speaker 1: there for before they closed?
- 30:05Speaker 2: I think we went there
- 30:06Speaker 2: almost every weekend we were staying there. I
- 30:09Speaker 1: remember 987, we used to do some giveaways with soy
- 30:12Speaker 1: Thai so nice. Oh really? And I realized when you
- 30:14Speaker 1: say it properly, it gives like a bit of an
- 30:16Speaker 1: Australian accent. It's soy Thai, so nice. You're right, you're right. Wait,
- 30:22Speaker 1: but what's so good about that Thai place that you
- 30:25Speaker 1: feel cannot be replaced?
- 30:26Speaker 2: OK, actually,
- 30:27Speaker 2: we really love this dish called the waterfall tofu. So
- 30:31Speaker 2: it's actually made with um some Thai sauce, garnished with
- 30:34Speaker 2: a lot of garlic, onions, shallots. They shifted to Raffles City,
- 30:39Speaker 2: but then I think it closed down as well. Oh
- 30:42Speaker 1: no, no, it's gone. They're missing the Seletar magic lah.
- 30:45Speaker 1: They should move back.
- 30:47Speaker 2: said so too. Yeah.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much for making us hungry this morning, man.
- 30:51Speaker 1: You guys have a great day, OK. Thank you, Audrey.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Plenty of your stories and um your experiences coming through
- 30:58Speaker 1: right now asking you about the shops that, you know,
- 31:02Speaker 1: maybe you grew up with in your neighborhood that you
- 31:04Speaker 1: were at all the time and you just don't remember
- 31:07Speaker 1: a time that they were not there. Then all of
- 31:09Speaker 1: a sudden one day, they're closed. How does that make
- 31:12Speaker 1: you feel?
- 31:14Speaker 1: I mean, I think this has happened to most of
- 31:15Speaker 1: us before. Like I, I described my experience earlier. I'm
- 31:18Speaker 1: just trying to think of other places that I loved
- 31:21Speaker 1: here in Singapore that are not in Bishan, OK, um,
- 31:26Speaker 1: Billy Bombers. OK, yes, yes, that's one,
- 31:32Speaker 1: Tony Ramos, the one that you worked at, OK. Oh
- 31:36Speaker 1: my goodness. Was that the only one, the only outlet?
- 31:39Speaker 1: There were 21 at Suntech and one at Orchard. Oh wait,
- 31:43Speaker 1: what about that chain, um.
- 31:45Speaker 1: The guy that plays the saxophone, but he also has chicken.
- 31:49Speaker 1: That's Kenny Roger Rogers. The saxophone is Kenny G. Sonia.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Sorry, shall we move on? Wait, wait, then what did
- 32:00Speaker 1: Kenny Rogers play? Lady, he's a singer. He's a singer. Sorry,
- 32:04Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 32:07Speaker 1: No, not me thinking that the saxophonist owns a chicken shop.
- 32:12Speaker 1: If this talk set were an audition for Gold 905,
- 32:15Speaker 1: we have failed it miserably. OK, I'm so sorry. Want
- 32:18Speaker 1: to go back to WhatsApp.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And say hello to Veron, who says, morning, Sonia and Jokim.
- 32:24Speaker 1: For me it has to be the McDonald's at Hougang Mall.
- 32:27Speaker 1: It's been there for as long as I can remember.
- 32:29Speaker 1: So when it left sometime last year, it was honestly
- 32:32Speaker 1: quite sad. My family eats McDonald's almost every other week. Wow,
- 32:36Speaker 1: your McDonald's points confirmed very high, Veron. So it really
- 32:39Speaker 1: feels like something was missing from the neighborhood. But good news,
- 32:41Speaker 1: it's finally been announced that it's coming back. Can't wait
- 32:44Speaker 1: to have our neighborhood McDonald's back again. Wow, OK, that's good.
- 32:47Speaker 1: You know, something, it's like once you're
- 32:49Speaker 1: to a routine, right? It just feels weird when you
- 32:51Speaker 1: don't do it. Yeah, uh, we got one coming in
- 32:54Speaker 1: from your, your username is a semicolon on WhatsApp. Hey
- 32:58Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim, so when I was in secondary school
- 33:00Speaker 1: in JC Raffles Institution, there was this really popular stall
- 33:04Speaker 1: that served delicious Hokkien mee and fried rice. There will
- 33:07Speaker 1: be long queues for it, and we would rush down
- 33:09Speaker 1: from the secondary school site to the JC site during
- 33:11Speaker 1: recess to queue up for the food. Portions were huge,
- 33:15Speaker 1: freshly cooked, and only $2.
- 33:17Speaker 1: One day the stall just closed and later we found
- 33:19Speaker 1: out the stall owner was quite ill. Unfortunately, we couldn't
- 33:23Speaker 1: get in touch with him. I do hope he is
- 33:24Speaker 1: well now. There we go. Yeah, sometimes I just wonder like,
- 33:28Speaker 1: we didn't have a chance to say goodbye, you know
- 33:30Speaker 1: that feeling. Yeah, yeah. Talk about being sentimental, right? OK. OK.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I want to say good morning to Amy on WhatsApp.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Hey guys, for my children and I, we missed the
- 33:41Speaker 1: Shaw cinema at Seletar Mall. It is a short walking distance.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Distance from our place. We love going to the movies
- 33:48Speaker 1: there since it was open and we really miss it. Oh,
- 33:51Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, especially if you grew up with it, right?
- 33:54Speaker 1: For sure you miss it. I'm guessing the closest to
- 33:57Speaker 1: Seletar Mall if you want to go watch a movie, right,
- 34:00Speaker 1: would be, I don't want to get this wrong, but
- 34:03Speaker 1: I really think it could be Punggol, you know. No
- 34:06Speaker 1: way so far. Either Punggol or Compass One if there's
- 34:08Speaker 1: a cinema over at Compass Ones walking distance? No, right?
- 34:11Speaker 1: Not exactly. You gotta take a bus or something, yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 1: OK, um, well, I think we got more, one more
- 34:17Speaker 1: message to read out before we get to our calls
- 34:19Speaker 1: in just a minute. Yes, we got one coming in
- 34:21Speaker 1: from a comment you made earlier, Sonia. So who has
- 34:25Speaker 1: the restaurant? Kenny Rogers, who plays the saxophone? Kenny G.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I want to say good morning
- 34:32Speaker 1: to user name Xiao Ming. Morning, Sojo. I wouldn't mind
- 34:35Speaker 1: trying out some Kenny G chicken. It might be the
- 34:38Speaker 1: latest craze. Thank you for making me laugh out loud
- 34:41Speaker 1: in my car this morning.
- 34:43Speaker 1: That's George Michael. Then what did Kenny G compose.
- 34:48Speaker 1: OK, you let me try again. OK. It's a popular
- 34:51Speaker 1: elevator music.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Oh yes, I do.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I've heard it in the elevators before actually. You're
- 35:02Speaker 1: not wrong in the older hotels. Thank you. I'm so
- 35:05Speaker 1: sorry to, you know, just the world right now. I
- 35:08Speaker 1: have no idea what is up with me. I swear
- 35:11Speaker 1: the mats are getting to my head. Kenny G. Wow,
- 35:15Speaker 1: that'll be interesting. We're talking about the shops that we
- 35:18Speaker 1: might have grown up with that, you know, just decided, hey,
- 35:21Speaker 1: they're going to close one day and we just can't
- 35:23Speaker 1: find it anymore.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Got a text coming in from Ari. Ari says, Hey guys,
- 35:28Speaker 1: how about a petrol kiosk? Unfortunately, the one over at
- 35:32Speaker 1: Mei Chin Road, the SPC, it's closing. And he sends
- 35:37Speaker 1: us a picture. Oh, this station will close, poor thing. Actually, why?
- 35:42Speaker 1: I mean, isn't it a necessity? I feel with the
- 35:44Speaker 1: rise of EVs, perhaps, but a lot of, uh, petrol
- 35:48Speaker 1: stations actually now have EV charging points, like fast charging,
- 35:51Speaker 1: so they might have, you know, switched to that in
- 35:53Speaker 1: time possibly.
- 35:54Speaker 1: OK, uh, last but not least, we've actually got Ejin
- 35:57Speaker 1: on the line right now. Ejin, what about you? Yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 2: so basically my family and I grew up, um, in Pioneer,
- 36:03Speaker 2: and my three siblings and I, we love this Hong
- 36:05Speaker 2: Kui store that we have always eat since young. And then, um,
- 36:09Speaker 2: when they moved to Gimbo and when we ourselves moved
- 36:13Speaker 2: to Toloklanga and even after I got married and moved
- 36:16Speaker 2: to Sengkang, we still drive down frequently to eat like
- 36:19Speaker 2: maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks or so,
- 36:21Speaker 1: yeah.
- 36:24Speaker 2: You know, the mihong kui broth is like you can't
- 36:26Speaker 2: replicate if you really like someplace you definitely have to
- 36:29Speaker 2: go back, yeah, so we are so used to eating it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: And then, um, so basically Uncle Tommy grew up from
- 36:35Speaker 2: a student to a working adult, and then after that
- 36:39Speaker 2: becoming a mom with my baby. So yeah, and then
- 36:43Speaker 2: about 2-3 weeks ago we realized that they just closed
- 36:45Speaker 2: all of a sudden and we don't know what happened, yeah.
- 36:49Speaker 2: And then um the thing is we have this, we
- 36:52Speaker 2: love that chili sauce that we frequently buy to eat
- 36:54Speaker 2: with our home cooked meal and then my mom is
- 36:57Speaker 2: trying to replicate it now, but it's very difficult
- 37:00Speaker 1: because all that there is a memory you have to
- 37:03Speaker 1: replicate based on memory, can I ask what is the
- 37:06Speaker 1: Kui stall name?
- 37:08Speaker 2: Uh, it's, it's called Tashitai Panmian, but I really don't
- 37:12Speaker 2: know why, uh, or, or whether or not they did
- 37:15Speaker 2: relocate somewhere else, but the
- 37:17Speaker 1: uncle retired.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, because like, I mean, while the uncles see
- 37:22Speaker 2: us grow up, we also see the uncle grow old, right,
- 37:26Speaker 2: because he's becoming a bit more thrill. So with the
- 37:28Speaker 2: sudden closure, we are just a
- 37:29Speaker 1: bit concerned, right? Yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 2: stop it. Like this makes me,
- 37:33Speaker 1: this makes me want to tear up in the morning. Yeah,
- 37:35Speaker 1: to Google reviews, it's still open, but I'm guessing it's
- 37:38Speaker 1: it's not, yeah, OK, well, if you ever get news
- 37:41Speaker 1: of it, let us know because I think we, we
- 37:43Speaker 1: definitely want to.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Support and try it as well. Now you got me
- 37:45Speaker 1: craving some Mei hong Kui, man, in the morning. Thank
- 37:48Speaker 1: you so much for your call. You have a great day, OK.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Thank you. Bye bye. On that note of Hong Kui
- 37:53Speaker 1: and Panmin and all that, right, there was one popular
- 37:56Speaker 1: one at Bishan used to be at S11 Chew Lian
- 38:00Speaker 1: Pan Mee. It was very good. And then I checked,
- 38:04Speaker 1: thankfully it's still open, but at various places here in Singapore.
- 38:08Speaker 1: OK, but very far. Where, where, where's the nearest one?
- 38:12Speaker 1: In the east, Changi Airport, Tampines, Chang Sime. OK. Pay
- 38:15Speaker 1: Lebar Quarter not so bad. Yeah, yeah. circle. Maybe they
- 38:17Speaker 1: live in the east la. Yeah, they got some over
- 38:20Speaker 1: at the central and south side of Singapore as well. Anyway,
- 38:22Speaker 1: we want to say thank you so much for all
- 38:24Speaker 1: your calls and your messages, and we apologize if we
- 38:26Speaker 1: didn't manage to read yours out. Gonna be a very
- 38:29Speaker 1: interesting month of October onwards for motorists here in Singapore.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yourself, Sonia Chew, as we are moving towards removing some
- 38:37Speaker 1: of the, actually not some, almost all of the ERP
- 38:40Speaker 1: physical gantries, right? So starting October, you're going to be
- 38:43Speaker 1: seeing the blue oval signs that says ERP, so it's
- 38:50Speaker 1: like a zone, yeah, on ground and before you actually
- 38:53Speaker 1: approach the signs, you will see the ERP charging zone
- 38:56Speaker 1: sign that will be on a stand.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And then they're gonna use some satellite technology to deduct
- 39:01Speaker 1: the costs as they would on a physical gantry, but
- 39:05Speaker 1: it's now being removed. Yeah, so, um, just make sure
- 39:08Speaker 1: that you have enough money in there at all times.
- 39:11Speaker 1: So enjoy and maybe if you see the oval signs,
- 39:15Speaker 1: don't be alarmed or don't think, hey, what's happening here?
- 39:17Speaker 1: Am I being pranked or what.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It's a real thing. You know, you know what I'm
- 39:20Speaker 1: most curious about? Like, how did they gradually paint the
- 39:24Speaker 1: signs on the road? Just, I mean, I know they
- 39:27Speaker 1: do it in phases, most likely, and then sometimes maybe
- 39:30Speaker 1: during off-peak hours, but I just still find it incredible. Like,
- 39:33Speaker 1: it almost feels like overnight suddenly everything changed. Yes, again,
- 39:37Speaker 1: shout out to all the workers who made this possible.
- 39:40Speaker 1: And and let's see what happens because I know a
- 39:42Speaker 1: long time ago when the gantries were first introduced, right
- 39:46Speaker 1: now all your uncles and aunties at the coffee shop saying, hey,
- 39:49Speaker 1: very ugly, so such an eyesore. Then we got used
- 39:52Speaker 1: to it and now they're gonna remove it. Yeah, yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I mean, I guess moving with the times also, right.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Something that will be part of history now. Yeah, and
- 40:01Speaker 1: on that note about motorists, again, don't forget if you're
- 40:03Speaker 1: driving an EV you have from now to October 9th
- 40:06Speaker 1: to vote for the number, the number plate that you want.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I haven't voted yet. Motoring, so please go and vote.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I wonder whether they are gonna show like the stats
- 40:15Speaker 1: as we, as we continue voting, like which ones winning.
- 40:18Speaker 1: There are 3 options, but have a look for yourself.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I can only hope that, you know, our future kids
- 40:23Speaker 1: next time if we ever have any, will be half
- 40:25Speaker 1: as entrepreneurial as this guy.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Are you ready for food news? Let's go. Let's go. 123,
- 40:31Speaker 1: food news, news. Sonia with the good news. Where are
- 40:37Speaker 1: we going to? OK, firstly, um, I want to highlight
- 40:40Speaker 1: this particular shop that they are currently already running that's
- 40:43Speaker 1: not related to F&B, OK? I'm not sure if you've
- 40:46Speaker 1: heard of Solace Studios before.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Oh wait, the photo thing, photo booth, yes, they've got
- 40:50Speaker 1: a lot of, so even you know Solar Studios. How
- 40:52Speaker 1: do you know them? Uh, I've seen all the Instagram
- 40:55Speaker 1: girlies and TikTok baddies use it. True. Um, aside from that,
- 40:58Speaker 1: they've been quite smart. Like I've realized that a lot
- 41:00Speaker 1: of events that I've been to, they actually provide the,
- 41:05Speaker 1: the photo booth to the event.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Did they supply the photo booth? Um, yeah, I think
- 41:10Speaker 1: they must have some time. They've, um, been customizing, you know,
- 41:14Speaker 1: even at the Uniqlo event we were at recently, it
- 41:16Speaker 1: was Solace Studios as well. I remember seeing their logo.
- 41:18Speaker 1: And whenever I go to Hajji Lane to get my,
- 41:20Speaker 1: you will see them there, yeah. So, um, saying hi
- 41:25Speaker 1: to Keith, he's the founder of Solace Studios. It's become
- 41:28Speaker 1: so popular and since they opened in Hajji Lane in 2022,
- 41:33Speaker 1: guess how many locations they have right now.
- 41:36Speaker 1: 2020 locations and now he's decided to go into something
- 41:41Speaker 1: that he's always been passionate about, Froyo. So he's decided
- 41:45Speaker 1: to start his own Froyo brand with his business partner, Dorian.
- 41:49Speaker 1: They're both 25, by the way. Um, it's a self-serve
- 41:52Speaker 1: Greek frozen yogurt shop also in Hajji Lane, and I
- 41:56Speaker 1: have to say I think this one's going to be
- 41:57Speaker 1: a hit. They're using one of my favorite yogurts, uh Chobani.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Greek yogurt with a lot of protein, right? So they,
- 42:05Speaker 1: they actually want to target, uh, fitness, fitness enthusiasts out
- 42:11Speaker 1: there that might be very conscious. Yes. Yeah, so, um,
- 42:15Speaker 1: you can do it yourself and you have toppings and
- 42:19Speaker 1: sauces included as well. Um, price point.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Wise, they did note that yeah, it may seem a
- 42:23Speaker 1: little bit pricier compared to some of your other froyo places,
- 42:26Speaker 1: but they said it's for a good reason, you know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: like we're using good quality stuff, we want you to
- 42:30Speaker 1: have the best, especially if you're health conscious. You know
- 42:33Speaker 1: what I was most curious about over at the Haji
- 42:35Speaker 1: Lane Arab area? There's this one place that has this
- 42:39Speaker 1: coffee thing, right?
- 42:40Speaker 1: And after you order it, it comes out of the wall.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Is it all of a sudden you see a guy
- 42:45Speaker 1: wearing a monster glove going boom. Yeah, yeah, it comes
- 42:47Speaker 1: out of the wall. It's very cute. It's very cute. Yeah,
- 42:49Speaker 1: I don't want to confirm or deny that I might
- 42:53Speaker 1: have shouted at one point when that came out of
- 42:55Speaker 1: nowhere and you didn't even order it, right? You were
- 42:57Speaker 1: just walking by, right? I knew I was filming something
- 42:59Speaker 1: that I remember. Oh gosh, help me. Anyway, um, just
- 43:03Speaker 1: want to say a big congratulations to them because at 25,
- 43:06Speaker 1: knowing what you want to do and
- 43:08Speaker 1: The ability to actually raise the funds from, I'm guessing
- 43:12Speaker 1: his previous um business as well, Solid Studios just really
- 43:16Speaker 1: is such a, it's such a good sign for young entrepreneurs,
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know, actually, you know what, um, our friends over
- 43:24Speaker 1: at Haji could be onto something here maybe aside from
- 43:26Speaker 1: your usual, you know.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Or whatever prominent brands that open there, right, why not
- 43:31Speaker 1: make Hajji Lane a space for young entrepreneurs to try
- 43:35Speaker 1: out ideas and see if it works or it does
- 43:36Speaker 1: not work, you know, the rental there, I don't think
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's cheap, you know, yeah, work out a program with
- 43:42Speaker 1: NYC or, you know, maybe not, maybe not the whole stretch,
- 43:45Speaker 1: maybe some units, one area could be that.
- 43:49Speaker 1: But if you want to support them and fuel his passion,
- 43:52Speaker 1: YoGeek is located at 65 Hajji Lane. They're open every day,
- 43:56Speaker 1: 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. or until they are sold out.
- 43:59Speaker 1: So you buy the YoGeek, then go to Solace Studios,
- 44:01Speaker 1: take a picture, yeah, 360 experience. Now whenever I scroll
- 44:05Speaker 1: on Instagram reels and TikTok, if I see something Avengers related,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm scrolling up straight away your phone out of your
- 44:11Speaker 1: hands immediately. I don't want to spoil it for myself though, unfortunately.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Yeah, everything is available for you online already. I don't
- 44:21Speaker 1: know when it became cool to record things in the cinema.
- 44:23Speaker 1: I wonder what the security people are doing, not just
- 44:26Speaker 1: here in Singapore but worldwide. No, I have to say
- 44:29Speaker 1: in Singapore. I've seen people out.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Text or use something, but the moment the ushers see
- 44:37Speaker 1: you take that, they are immediately coming towards you. OK,
- 44:39Speaker 1: I'm still here to see it because I was watching
- 44:44Speaker 1: the movie for the second time, there was a row
- 44:45Speaker 1: in front of me recording the whole thing. Did you
- 44:48Speaker 1: say something? No, I mean.
- 44:50Speaker 1: They were doing it discreetly. So if I, I didn't
- 44:53Speaker 1: want to cause a fight in the cinema during the
- 44:55Speaker 1: movie itself, but I did tell the ushers after the show, like, hey,
- 44:59Speaker 1: I want to check this row, and the ladies are
- 45:01Speaker 1: still inside. Please check them and make sure to delete
- 45:03Speaker 1: the footage. So I wonder whether did they do that
- 45:06Speaker 1: or not. Yeah. So for Avengers Endgame On Call, again, look,
- 45:10Speaker 1: it's about a 3 hour plus run time, longer than Odyssey,
- 45:13Speaker 1: by the way, and there'll be 3 to 4 minutes
- 45:16Speaker 1: of additional footage, but apparently it's very important.
- 45:19Speaker 1: To understand the link between that and Avengers Doomsday. OK,
- 45:23Speaker 1: and the, the thing is, most of it happens.
- 45:27Speaker 1: You know how Avengers Endgame ends, right? With the Captain
- 45:31Speaker 1: America Steve Rogers choosing to stay with Peggy Carter and
- 45:34Speaker 1: they're dancing. Yeah, apparently there are things that will happen
- 45:37Speaker 1: from then on, mid-credit scene and the end credits. Oh wow,
- 45:42Speaker 1: that says a lot to take note of and the
- 45:44Speaker 1: Russo brothers themselves have said that you need to really
- 45:47Speaker 1: watch Loki, the series on Disney Plus it again to
- 45:51Speaker 1: really understand the concept of time and time.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Timelines and multiverses. You know, um, sometimes I feel like
- 45:58Speaker 1: that meme of the girl with the maths going at her,
- 46:01Speaker 1: you know, the, the math equations. Yeah, sometimes I'm like that,
- 46:04Speaker 1: like when it comes, it's like getting really complicated. I
- 46:07Speaker 1: need to recap, you know. I mean, it got a
- 46:09Speaker 1: bit confusing with the destroyer and then the actor who
- 46:12Speaker 1: played in, but now it's apparently OK. OK, well, you know,
- 46:16Speaker 1: we just got to do what we can to prep ourselves. Yes,
- 46:19Speaker 1: we can. So enjoy the shows.
