- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! Ready for another episode? I've been practicing, Lucas. Lucas: That's great to hear. Today we're going somewhere quiet and full of books — the library. Luna: Ooh, I love libraries. I remember last time we talked about the cinema. This is similar but.... Lucas: Exactly. So, first phrase: Estoy buscando un libro. That means 'I am looking for a book.' Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Estoy buscando... un libro. Lucas: Perfect. 'Estoy' is from the verb 'estar' — we learned that before. 'Buscando' means 'looking for'. So, Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's try a mini conversation. Imagine you walk up to a librarian and say, Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: And they might ask, '¿Qué libro buscas?' But today we'll keep it simple. Next phrase: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? — 'Can I borrow this book?' Luna: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? That's a mouthful. Lucas: Break it down: 'puedo' means 'I can', 'sacar' is 'to take out', 'este libro' is 'this book', 'prestado' means 'borrowed'. So literally 'Can I take out this book borrowed?' Luna: So it's like 'Can I borrow this book?' Okay. ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Lucas: Exactly. Now you find a book you want. You say, Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: And then you ask, ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Luna: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Lucas: Great. Now the librarian might tell you how long you can keep it. So next phrase: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? — 'How long can I have it?' Luna: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? 'Tenerlo' — to have it? From 'tener'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Tener' is 'to have', 'lo' is 'it'. So 'tenerlo' is 'to have it'. ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? Luna: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? That's useful. Lucas: And the librarian might reply: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. — 'You have to return it in two weeks.' Luna: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. 'Devolverlo' — to return it? Lucas: Yes! 'Devolver' is 'to return', and 'lo' again. 'Tienes que' means 'you have to'. So, Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. Luna: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. Got it. Lucas: Let's practice the whole exchange. You walk up to the librarian. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: The librarian shows you a book. You ask... Luna: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Lucas: They say yes. Then you ask... Luna: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? Lucas: And they say... Luna: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. Lucas: That was perfect, Luna. You really nailed it. Luna: Thanks! It feels good to put it all together. So now I can borrow books in Spanish. Lucas: Exactly. And remember, you can always ask for help with 'Estoy buscando un libro.' Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: Let's do one more repetition of each phrase. Repeat after me: Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Luna: ¿Puedo sacar este libro prestado? Lucas: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? Luna: ¿Cuánto tiempo puedo tenerlo? Lucas: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. Luna: Tienes que devolverlo en dos semanas. Lucas: Fantastic. That's all for today's episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Practice these phrases, and next time you're in a library, give them a try. Luna: I will! Thanks Lucas. See you all next time. Lucas: Hasta luego, and keep learning with Fexingo.
