- 0:00We recognize nowadays that actions of the mother impact the
- 0:04fetus in the womb. Certain things impact the
- 0:08physical development, including certain drugs or alcohol.
- 0:13Some drugs may cause physical deformities, others may impact
- 0:17the brain and nervous system. What is less frequently
- 0:21acknowledged, however, is the psychological impact of the
- 0:25mother's experiences, thoughts, and surroundings on the
- 0:30development of the unborn child. If the mother is exposed to
- 0:34circumstances that raise up fear or anger or other strong
- 0:39reactions, various chemical reactions take place.
- 0:44Neurotransmitter chemicals are dumped into her bloodstream and
- 0:48hormones are released. It is a known fact that certain
- 0:53of these neurotransmitters and hormones pass across the
- 0:56placenta and enter the child's developmental environment,
- 1:02similarly exposing the mother to influences of beauty, harmony.
- 1:08Positive emotions also trigger release of neurotransmitters and
- 1:13hormones and thus can also support the development of the
- 1:18child. The growing child begins to
- 1:21respond to the voice of its mother as well as ambient
- 1:25sounds. At a certain stage in the
- 1:27pregnancy. The subtle influences of a
- 1:30positive environment can enhance the development, just as certain
- 1:36influences can harm the development of the budding
- 1:39child, the mother notes Quote to bear a child and construct his
- 1:46body almost subconsciously is not enough.
- 1:49The work really commences when, by the power of thought and
- 1:53will, we conceive and create a character capable of manifesting
- 1:58an ideal. And do not say that we have no
- 2:01power for realizing such a thing.
- 2:03Innumerable instances of this very effective power could be
- 2:07brought out as proofs. First of all, the effect of
- 2:11physical environment was recognized and studied long ago.
- 2:16It is by surrounding women with forms of art and beauty that,
- 2:20little by little, the ancient Greeks created the exceptionally
- 2:24harmonious race that they were. Individual instances of the same
- 2:30fact are numerous. It is not rare to see a woman
- 2:33who, while pregnant, had looked at and constantly admired a
- 2:37beautiful picture or statue giving birth to a child after
- 2:42the perfect likeness of this picture or statue.
- 2:47I met several of these instances myself.
- 2:50Among them I remember very clearly 2 little girls.
- 2:54They were twins and perfectly beautiful, but the most
- 2:58astonishing was how little like their parents they were.
- 3:03They reminded me of a very famous picture painted by the
- 3:06English artist Reynolds. One day I made this remark to
- 3:10the mother, who immediately exclaimed.
- 3:14Indeed, is it not so? You will be interested to know
- 3:18that while I was expecting these children, I had hanging above my
- 3:22bed a very good reproduction of Reynolds picture before going to
- 3:27sleep. And as soon as I woke, my last
- 3:31and first glance was for that picture, and in my heart I hoped
- 3:36may my children be like the faces in this picture.
- 3:40You see that I succeeded quite well.
- 3:44In truth, she could be proud of her success, and her example is
- 3:49of great utility for other women.
- 3:52But if we can obtain such results on the physical plane,
- 3:55where the materials are the least plastic, how much more so
- 4:00on the psychological plane, where the influence of thought
- 4:03and will is so powerful? Why accept the obscure bonds of
- 4:09heredity and atavism, which are nothing else than subconscious
- 4:13preferences for our own trend of character, when we can, by
- 4:18concentration and will, call into being a type constructed
- 4:22according to the highest ideal we are able to conceive?
- 4:27With this effort, maternity becomes truly precious and
- 4:31sacred indeed. With this we enter the glorious
- 4:35work of the Spirit, and womanhood rises above animality
- 4:40and its ordinary instincts towards real humanity and its
- 4:44powers. End Quote.
