- 2:02SPEAKER_04: Happy Gilmore is one of the funniest movies.
- 2:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they would love that movie.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: A little raunchy at times.
- 2:08SPEAKER_13: Is it how how raunchy?
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: Not really bad.
- 2:10SPEAKER_13: They could they could take it, right?
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, there it's mostly just language and you know crude humor, but you know.
- 2:15SPEAKER_13: Worst language than I know.
- 2:16SPEAKER_13: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:17SPEAKER_13: Sure.
- 2:17SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_13: Um so what was I gonna say?
- 2:20SPEAKER_13: I was gonna uh I don't know either.
- 2:22SPEAKER_13: Uh oh, this was kind of funny around the uh dinner table tonight, because it was just because the boat both boys are at uh the high school doing deck the halls.
- 2:31SPEAKER_13: And uh so were just the three of us, Teresa, myself, and uh Myra sitting around the dinner table.
- 2:38SPEAKER_13: And uh she's Myra says, What time is Doug coming?
- 2:42SPEAKER_13: I said seven.
- 2:43SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 2:44SPEAKER_13: She says, um something about ca because I was really tired.
- 2:49SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I was like sitting at the the dinner table, just kind of she said, Dad, if you're tired, I can do the podcast with Doug.
- 2:58SPEAKER_13: And I said, and I said, I think Doug would love that actually.
- 3:03SPEAKER_13: And she goes, she goes, O'Myra and Doug.
- 3:06SPEAKER_13: Omira.
- 3:10SPEAKER_13: Isn't that cool?
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: She's thought about that.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: O'Mira and Doug.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: Welcome to the Omira and Doug podcast.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: I'm Doug.
- 3:20SPEAKER_13: Hey Myra.
- 3:22SPEAKER_13: See, now you do you do a podcast with my wife and you do a podcast with my daughter.
- 3:25SPEAKER_13: I'm gonna, yeah, I'm gonna do a whole podcast with your whole family.
- 3:28SPEAKER_13: There you go.
- 3:28SPEAKER_13: Uh Finn and his girlfriend have been uh um asking to be on the podcast.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: I think we should have them on.
- 3:34SPEAKER_13: Well, that means I would have to have her down here, and I don't really want I don't think she cares.
- 3:38SPEAKER_13: I know she doesn't care, but I care.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: Well, don't worry about it.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: It's a basement, it's not supposed to be clean.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: I'm sure her basement is twice as bad as this.
- 3:49SPEAKER_13: Speaking of that, tonight, um, tonight or tomorrow, I have to uh move off.
- 3:55SPEAKER_13: We're gonna we were waiting until after the podcast to do this.
- 3:58SPEAKER_13: Um we're getting a new oil tank.
- 3:59SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 4:00SPEAKER_13: On my birthday.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, good.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Happy birthday to me.
- 4:03SPEAKER_04: Hey!
- 4:04SPEAKER_13: I got oil! Right.
- 4:06SPEAKER_13: So I have to like that that long freezer, I have to move that.
- 4:11SPEAKER_13: Oh fun.
- 4:12SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:12SPEAKER_13: So I don't know where I'm gonna move it, but I gotta we're gonna move all those boxes and stuff over here.
- 4:16SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:17SPEAKER_13: So it's just gonna be a cluster.
- 4:18SPEAKER_13: It's just gonna be a Charlie Fox truck.
- 4:20SPEAKER_13: Yes, it is.
- 4:21SPEAKER_13: So but after Thursday we'll have a brand new because I don't think the oil tank in this house has been replaced since it was built.
- 4:30SPEAKER_13: Back in like 70.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: Well, you've been in this house for almost 25 years.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: So I mean you never had one until that time.
- 4:38SPEAKER_13: So I think and I think it's original to the house.
- 4:40SPEAKER_13: So probably so we it's this was built what in the 70s?
- 4:43SPEAKER_13: 72, 73, something like that.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: So it's it's a good fifty years old.
- 4:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:47SPEAKER_13: Oh, at least.
- 4:47SPEAKER_13: Low time.
- 4:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_13: So yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: Well, it'll be the last oil tank you put in.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: Probably.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: So.
- 4:53SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_13: And they're gonna clean the furnace while they're here.
- 4:56SPEAKER_13: Why not?
- 4:57SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 4:57SPEAKER_13: So why not?
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: Put them to work.
- 4:59SPEAKER_04: Happy birthday to me.
- 4:59SPEAKER_04: Here's here's some money.
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: Here's here's I'm gonna give you thousands of dollars.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: You're gonna put a new oil tank and oil and clean my furnace.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: And I'm gonna get a cake.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: And I'm gonna I'm gonna sit here and watch you.
- 5:10SPEAKER_13: Actually, no, I'll be working.
- 5:12SPEAKER_13: So uh what else is going on?
- 5:16SPEAKER_13: I'm trying to think.
- 5:18SPEAKER_13: Um we there hasn't been much going on.
- 5:21SPEAKER_13: There really hasn't.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: We've had no gigs.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: We got one coming up, but we haven't had no gigs.
- 5:26SPEAKER_13: Yep.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: And we haven't any practices.
- 5:30SPEAKER_13: And uh interesting.
- 5:33SPEAKER_13: I can say this because I don't think John listens to this podcast.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: No, he doesn't.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: Probably not.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: Um I doubt it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_13: And and hopefully Morton's not mad at me for saying this, but I I saw Chris the other day, yesterday, and uh he was saying, because I had run run into we did the middle school concert, chorus concert, last week.
- 5:54SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 5:55SPEAKER_13: And of course, he's got a middle schooler, and she's in the band.
- 5:59SPEAKER_13: So I'm sorry, middle school winter concert, not just chorus.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 6:03SPEAKER_13: Band and chorus.
- 6:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_13: And so You're talking about Chris's dog, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_13: So she's in band.
- 6:08SPEAKER_13: So they were there, and on their way out, uh Chris's wife says, Um, practice?
- 6:15SPEAKER_13: Are we gonna are we gonna practice?
- 6:17SPEAKER_13: You know, for our country band.
- 6:18SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 6:19SPEAKER_13: And I said, I I want to.
- 6:20SPEAKER_13: You know, yeah, I definitely want to.
- 6:22SPEAKER_13: And so anyway, yesterday I'm um talking to Chris.
- 6:24SPEAKER_13: I went in and and put some money on a thing.
- 6:28SPEAKER_13: And uh thing, a new guitar.
- 6:31SPEAKER_13: And uh so anyway, um It is a new guitar.
- 6:33SPEAKER_13: No, well, no.
- 6:35SPEAKER_13: Yes, it is.
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: My wife listens to this podcast, shut up.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: I I don't hey Trace, do you mind if he tells me what it is?
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, never mind then.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: Continue.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: Um getting the evil eye.
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 6:52SPEAKER_13: So um I was talking to him and and he said, you know, I'd like to practice and what I really hope to be gig ready by the spring.
- 7:01SPEAKER_13: I was like, I mean, that's doable.
- 7:04SPEAKER_13: I mean if you're gonna do it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that's that's we can do that.
- 7:06SPEAKER_13: We've picked some some some good songs.
- 7:09SPEAKER_13: They're challenging because there are lots of parts to them.
- 7:11SPEAKER_13: Sure.
- 7:11SPEAKER_13: I said, but there I mean there's like there's twenty songs or so that are just knockoffs that we could do.
- 7:19SPEAKER_13: And I brought up uh hands to keep your hands to yourself.
- 7:22SPEAKER_13: As much as I don't want to do that song, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_13: Songs like that we could do in a heartbeat.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's kinda it's a that's a country-ish song.
- 7:29SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 7:30SPEAKER_13: But I mean, uh you know, songs like that.
- 7:31SPEAKER_13: They're just easy songs and and people love 'em.
- 7:35SPEAKER_13: And we could so we could come up with twenty songs that are just like that.
- 7:39SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_13: So we could be gig ready for the spring, and he's like he's like, good, you know, I'm I'm I I'm really loving this band.
- 7:47SPEAKER_13: And I said, Yeah, me too.
- 7:49SPEAKER_13: And he says, probably a little more than Skinny Elvis.
- 7:52SPEAKER_13: And I said, Really?
- 7:55SPEAKER_13: He said, Yeah, and the only reason is because I think we have an audience.
- 8:01SPEAKER_13: He said, Skinny Elvis, it's like you're worried about like, are they gonna know this song?
- 8:07SPEAKER_13: Or um are they, you know, I'm like, will this song work here?
- 8:14SPEAKER_13: Uh you know, you don't have a built-in audience, you kind of have to win them over.
- 8:18SPEAKER_13: I said, Yeah, I get that.
- 8:19SPEAKER_13: I get that.
- 8:20SPEAKER_13: And so it just kind of surprised me that that he said that about Skinny Elvis.
- 8:24SPEAKER_13: So I made a suggestion.
- 8:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but Skinny Elvis is more for us anyway.
- 8:27SPEAKER_13: This is true.
- 8:28SPEAKER_13: So it is, it's just for fun.
- 8:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_13: Uh I mean, I would love to play Skinny Elvis out.
- 8:32SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_13: You know, play play a couple gigs or whatever with Skinny Elvis.
- 8:36SPEAKER_13: But I said I came up with a solution.
- 8:39SPEAKER_13: I said we should be um let's see, uh Haystack Skinny Elvis Union.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: That's a terrible name.
- 8:49SPEAKER_13: Where so bad.
- 8:50SPEAKER_13: Where we play um Martini McBride and then go right into Collective Soul.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just best of both worlds.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: It'll be a band the size of the syndicate.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: He thought that was the fantastic idea.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 9:03SPEAKER_04: Why not?
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: Why not?
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: Best of both worlds.
- 9:06SPEAKER_13: So yeah, uh I I am uh actually excited to get together with uh either of those bands.
- 9:10SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_13: Just to just to practice and even the syndicate.
- 9:13SPEAKER_13: I mean Well, we got a New Year's Eve thing now.
- 9:15SPEAKER_13: We do have a New Year's Eve thing coming up.
- 9:17SPEAKER_13: I also put money, uh or I told him I was gonna put money on the fact that was what's today?
- 9:23SPEAKER_13: The the w well, we're recording this on a Monday, the ninth.
- 9:27SPEAKER_13: Um I say within a week, maybe two weeks, it gets canceled.
- 9:34SPEAKER_13: I would put money on that.
- 9:35SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I wouldn't doubt it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_13: Because so they're gonna pay money to get this huge tent.
- 9:44SPEAKER_13: They're gonna pay money to put heaters in this tent, and they're expecting people to show up.
- 9:51SPEAKER_13: While there's a a party band, a really good party band playing in the lounge.
- 9:59SPEAKER_13: There's a fundraiser for a firefighter with cancer at the rec department.
- 10:05SPEAKER_13: There's an Ozzy Osbourne tribute band at the mall.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, is it Dylan's band?
- 10:14SPEAKER_13: Is it Crazy Train?
- 10:15SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_13: Is is that Dylan's band is Crazy Train?
- 10:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_13: Him and his dad.
- 10:20SPEAKER_13: Doug Dakota.
- 10:21SPEAKER_13: Dakota, yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_13: They have a band called Crazy Train?
- 10:23SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they're they're an Ozzy tribute band.
- 10:24SPEAKER_13: Well, that must be them.
- 10:26SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 10:26SPEAKER_13: I don't I haven't I haven't seen the Maverick.
- 10:28SPEAKER_13: But Spud Speedway is bringing them up and they're doing it at the mall.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: Well, maybe it's them then.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: Because Dakota's played for them for.
- 10:33SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 10:33SPEAKER_13: Hasn't they?
- 10:34SPEAKER_13: Yeah, Spud Speedway.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_13: That's all going on the same night that we're going to be on Main Street.
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, but our audience is not any of those people.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Our audience also will be in bed.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: So we could play from 9 to 9.30.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: And everybody would be just fine.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm saying.
- 10:55SPEAKER_13: I mean, it's it's the odds are stacked against us that we're gonna have a crowd.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's gonna suck.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: I'm just I'm just speaking the truth.
- 11:01SPEAKER_13: Just being honest.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: It's gonna suck it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: Sorry, kids.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: Um sorry, Blanchard children.
- 11:10SPEAKER_04: My apologies.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Sorry, Macy Mace.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: I know you guys are listening to you in range.
- 11:15SPEAKER_13: Sorry.
- 11:15SPEAKER_13: That's that's why I think within the next week or two it will get canceled.
- 11:20SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't doubt it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: Because it's the whole thing is just just so thrown together.
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: And they're paying us.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:26SPEAKER_13: So that's that's you know, that with the tent and the heat, that's thousands of dollars.
- 11:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_13: And the the driver.
- 11:33SPEAKER_04: Apparently they don't have in the first place.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: So where are they getting this money?
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 11:37SPEAKER_04: So yeah, this this whole thing is just just reeks of just failure.
- 11:41SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_04: So we'll that's the name of the podcast, Reeks of Failure.
- 11:46SPEAKER_13: This this this reeks of failure.
- 11:50SPEAKER_13: That's a perfect name for this episode.
- 11:52SPEAKER_13: Um so yeah, I'm I'll be interested to see if that if that actually goes on.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 11:57SPEAKER_13: I mean, I'd like to play, but I just I don't put a lot of and I think that I think most of the members of the band are like that as well.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: We just want to play.
- 12:04SPEAKER_04: We just want to play.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: You know, we don't care where or what, you know, we just we just want to play.
- 12:09SPEAKER_13: But yeah.
- 12:09SPEAKER_04: This whole thing just sounds really stupid.
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: It does.
- 12:13SPEAKER_13: It does.
- 12:14SPEAKER_13: I mean, we'll be there because, you know, we were hired, but it just it doesn't make any sense to me.
- 12:19SPEAKER_13: We'll see.
- 12:19SPEAKER_13: But that's okay.
- 12:20SPEAKER_04: I'll see.
- 12:21SPEAKER_04: Uh so let's talk about let's talk about stuff.
- 12:25SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about you and me.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about that.
- 12:29SPEAKER_13: I sent this article to my wife.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: All of the things, all the bad things that can be.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: And of course we were talking to Doug.
- 12:37SPEAKER_13: We we were talking about um all these artists that are going on tour.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_13: Uh they've just announced.
- 12:44SPEAKER_13: Well, I mean, Guns N' Roses is going on tour.
- 12:46SPEAKER_13: Santana, uh, James Taylor, Joan Jett, um, I know Def Lepert is putting together another tour.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: Um Poison go on tour the year after next.
- 12:56SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 12:56SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_13: So but I mean, and and here's we've we've talked about this, but there's an article on Ultimate Classic Rock.com that I sent to my wife, and uh it's the first global economic study into the effect of AI on the creative industry suggested that those working in the music industry could lose over a fifth of their income in the next three years.
- 13:22SPEAKER_13: Ah, there it is.
- 13:25SPEAKER_13: There it is.
- 13:26SPEAKER_13: The International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers revealed the conclusions of the report, which they said emphasizes the need for urgent new legislation to protect their five million members and others.
- 13:37SPEAKER_13: The study suggested that if new laws aren't introduced, corporations will have the ability to continue developing AI music from poorly protected copyrighted material created by humans, and will make more money than ever before out of that material without having to share any with artists.
- 13:54SPEAKER_13: As a result, corporate profits could explode while artists and many others working in the creative industries could see their income fall by over 20% by 2028.
- 14:04SPEAKER_13: By that time, the report said the AI industry is expected to have expanded from$3.1 billion worldwide to$67.7 billion.
- 14:14SPEAKER_13: The key argument in the matter concerns how AI models are trained.
- 14:17SPEAKER_13: It's argued that if a model is given access to an artist's work and then generates its own version of that work, the new work is entirely the property of the AI's owners.
- 14:26SPEAKER_13: And the artist whose work was used to train the AI has no ownership rights.
- 14:31SPEAKER_13: That position is disputed by many artists who face having their material used and reused without enjoying a share of the profits.
- 14:39SPEAKER_13: And so I said this to my wife.
- 14:41SPEAKER_13: And you know, the music industry people will lose over a fifth of their income in the next three years.
- 14:49SPEAKER_13: You know what she said?
- 14:50SPEAKER_13: Better get on it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Like, get out there and do it.
- 14:57SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: Well, I don't I don't think we're in any danger.
- 15:00SPEAKER_13: I don't think so either.
- 15:02SPEAKER_13: But she says, and that's what she says.
- 15:03SPEAKER_13: She says, you guys play live.
- 15:05SPEAKER_13: So I mean it doesn't make sense.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: And that's and that's the whole thing about them going on tour because there's no AI in the world that's going to put on a live show.
- 15:13SPEAKER_13: Here's the thing I would rather create than play live.
- 15:16SPEAKER_13: I love to play live.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:18SPEAKER_13: But I would rather write songs and create than play live.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but then if you're trying to compete against AI, good luck.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: That's my point.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:28SPEAKER_13: So here we have the radio industry that I was so in love with and was in for 25 years.
- 15:34SPEAKER_13: Exactly.
- 15:34SPEAKER_13: And now the music industry that I've been trying to do something in.
- 15:43SPEAKER_13: So, I mean, it's like your dreams are just Hey, hey, you see that, you see that pretty bird flying?
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: That's your dreams.
- 15:53SPEAKER_13: Exactly.
- 15:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_13: So so it was kind of depressing.
- 15:56SPEAKER_13: But then I so she said, you better get on it.
- 16:00SPEAKER_13: And uh I wanted to say what she said.
- 16:03SPEAKER_13: Uh and I said, you know, I'd rather create than than uh than uh perform live or something like that.
- 16:11SPEAKER_13: And then she had another snarky comment.
- 16:13SPEAKER_04: Your wife No.
- 16:15SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 16:16SPEAKER_13: It wasn't that snarky, but hold on.
- 16:18SPEAKER_13: I wanna I don't want to say that and then just leave it out there.
- 16:22SPEAKER_13: She she did say, let's see.
- 16:24SPEAKER_13: She said, um no, she didn't she didn't do a snarky comment.
- 16:31SPEAKER_13: Uh I said, I'd much rather create than perform.
- 16:34SPEAKER_13: She says, well Oh.
- 16:35SPEAKER_13: No, so I sent her the article and she says, You make money by performing, that won't go away.
- 16:40SPEAKER_13: I said, but I'd much rather create than perform.
- 16:42SPEAKER_13: She says, well, get on it.
- 16:43SPEAKER_13: I said, um, okay.
- 16:46SPEAKER_13: And she blew me a kid.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, that's sweet.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: So that's why you're buying the new guitar?
- 16:57SPEAKER_13: Okay, so I don't have a classical guitar.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's what you bought.
- 17:03SPEAKER_13: Also, I bought a classical guitar.
- 17:05SPEAKER_13: Oh, okay, well, I think.
- 17:05SPEAKER_13: It's a it's at the school.
- 17:07SPEAKER_13: I I play it for the kids.
- 17:08SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_13: And it was very cheap.
- 17:10SPEAKER_13: It's it was I shouldn't say cheap, it was very inexpensive.
- 17:13SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 17:13SPEAKER_13: It's a nice it's a nice classical guitar, but I bought it with gig money.
- 17:17SPEAKER_13: You know, and and it was it was not expensive.
- 17:22SPEAKER_13: Not okay.
- 17:23SPEAKER_13: Comparatively.
- 17:24SPEAKER_13: So I went in and and and put some money down for with more gig money um yesterday.
- 17:30SPEAKER_13: So it's almost paid for.
- 17:32SPEAKER_13: There you go.
- 17:33SPEAKER_13: So but yeah, there's another one to add to my collection.
- 17:36SPEAKER_13: She's gonna hear this podcast, and I love you, dear.
- 17:39SPEAKER_13: I blow you kissed.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: Kind of weird.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: Feel a little uncomfortable.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: That's okay.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: I need an adult.
- 17:51SPEAKER_13: Um and so I figured this being uh this this podcast being on my birthday, we would go and uh see this day in music, December 12th.
- 18:04SPEAKER_13: And as we mentioned, Frank Sinatra was born in 1915.
- 18:08SPEAKER_13: I guess I didn't realize it was that.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, you know, I know, I know you don't think about that.
- 18:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, he came up in you know the golden age of jazz.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: So I mean, you know, he was playing with the Tommy Dorsey band and all that.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: Right.

- 22:18SPEAKER_13: But it happened on my birthday.
- 22:20SPEAKER_13: Well, congratulations.

- 22:51SPEAKER_04: Think about that.
- 22:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.

- 27:34SPEAKER_13: Nope.
- 27:34SPEAKER_13: No, I'm gonna be on my Game Boy playing Tetris.
- 27:37SPEAKER_13: I said, the last video game I played was uh Mortal Kombat.

- 27:48SPEAKER_13: Finish him.
- 27:50SPEAKER_13: Uh let's see.
- 27:52SPEAKER_13: On this day in 1998, a seven-inch single by the Quarrymen featuring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison was named as the rarest record of all time.
- 28:01SPEAKER_13: Only fifty copies were made, with each copy being valued at$20,500.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Man, you imagine having that record?
- 28:08SPEAKER_13: I cannot.
- 28:10SPEAKER_13: Uh let's see.
- 28:11SPEAKER_04: That must have been the one they recorded in that guy's living room.
- 28:14SPEAKER_13: Maybe.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: Was it uh did it have Cry for a Shadow on it?
- 28:17SPEAKER_13: It didn't say.
- 28:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it doesn't say on this day, December 12th, 2003.
- 28:23SPEAKER_13: Yep.

- 28:28SPEAKER_13: Um Jagger's 92-year-old father was at the palace to see his son receive the award.
- 28:33SPEAKER_13: 92.
- 28:34SPEAKER_13: Holy cow.
- 28:35SPEAKER_13: So Mick Jagger is not dying anytime soon.
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: Have you seen him?
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: Have you seen him lately?
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: He's still friggin' dancing like it's incredible.
- 28:42SPEAKER_13: I know, it is incredible.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: What is it with him and Keith Richards?
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: They both made deals with the devil.
- 28:47SPEAKER_13: Had to be.
- 28:48SPEAKER_13: Had to.
- 28:49SPEAKER_13: Had to be, yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_13: Um, in 2007, on this day, a copy of John Lennon's book A Spaniard in the Works, which contained a lock of Lennon's hair, sold at Gorange's auction house for forty-eight thousand dollars.
- 29:03SPEAKER_13: Lennon gave the book and the hair to Betty Glasgow, the Fab Force hairdresser, during their heyday.
- 29:08SPEAKER_13: He wrote in the book to Betty, lots of love and hair.
- 29:11SPEAKER_13: John Lennon, XX.
- 29:13SPEAKER_13: The strands of hair and book had been expected to sell for between two thousand and four thousand pounds.
- 29:19SPEAKER_13: It went from forty-eight.
- 29:21SPEAKER_13: Well, it went for twenty-four thousand pounds.
- 29:22SPEAKER_13: Twenty four thousand pounds.
- 29:23SPEAKER_13: Which is forty thousand dollars.
- 29:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_13: Wow.
- 29:26SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_13: Crazy.
- 29:27SPEAKER_13: Um the town where Mick Jagger and Keith Richards grew up announced it was named it uh was to name streets in a new estate after Rolling Stones hits.
- 29:38SPEAKER_13: This is in uh 2008.
- 29:40SPEAKER_13: The thirteen streets in Dartford, Kent were to be given names such as Angie Mews, Babylon Close, Sympathy Street, Little Red Walk, and Satisfaction Street.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: Those are stupid names.
- 29:52SPEAKER_04: Those are really stuff.

- 29:55SPEAKER_13: No.
- 29:56SPEAKER_13: Leader of the council Jeremy Kite said he thought Ruby Tuesday Drive sounded uh like a fantastic place to live, but police were concerned the street science might be stolen by fans.
- 30:04SPEAKER_04: Of course they would.
- 30:05SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: We already have a Ruby Tuesday restaurant.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: We don't need a Ruby Tuesday Street.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 30:12SPEAKER_13: And sad on this day in 2020, Charlie Pride died.
- 30:16SPEAKER_13: Aww.
- 30:17SPEAKER_13: Yeah.

- 32:45SPEAKER_13: It had to be last year because she said because she makes every every year since I was in high school, she's made me the same cake.
- 32:54SPEAKER_13: Because I love the cake.
- 32:56SPEAKER_13: Right.

- 33:14SPEAKER_13: Every birthday since high school.
- 33:15SPEAKER_13: Every day.
- 33:16SPEAKER_13: That's why I'm the size I am! She'd be like 700 pounds right now.
- 33:20SPEAKER_13: Every birth birthday since high school.
- 33:22SPEAKER_13: Every day! So she says, um last year, um she said it was the way she said it.
- 33:31SPEAKER_13: I'm uh I'm making your birthday cake uh until you're 50.
- 33:36SPEAKER_13: And then after that, your wife's gonna have to make it for you.
- 33:41SPEAKER_13: I said, Oh, okay.
- 33:44SPEAKER_13: Wow.
- 33:44SPEAKER_13: Alright, right.
- 33:46SPEAKER_13: And so I talked to her the other day and she's like, is Teresa gonna make your cake?
- 33:50SPEAKER_13: I was like, I I don't know.
- 33:52SPEAKER_13: Do you do you want to make my cake?
- 33:54SPEAKER_13: Well, do you want me to?
- 33:57SPEAKER_13: Well if you want to make the cake.
- 34:00SPEAKER_13: Well no, I like Teresa.
- 34:01SPEAKER_13: Give it a shot.
- 34:03SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 34:05SPEAKER_13: Okay, and then I should probably check with her.
- 34:08SPEAKER_13: Today's today's Monday.
- 34:09SPEAKER_13: We're recording this on Monday.
- 34:10SPEAKER_13: My birthday's on Tuesday.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, today's Tuesday.
- 34:12SPEAKER_13: Oh, today's Tuesday.
- 34:13SPEAKER_13: We're recording this on Tuesday.
- 34:14SPEAKER_13: My birthday is Thursday when you're hearing this.
- 34:17SPEAKER_13: And so I'll probably check with her tomorrow.
- 34:20SPEAKER_13: Maybe you'll have two cakes.
- 34:21SPEAKER_13: Wednesday.
- 34:21SPEAKER_13: And and I'll say, Do you want to make the cake or do you want Teresa to make the cake?
- 34:25SPEAKER_13: I probably should double check.
- 34:27SPEAKER_13: Maybe you'll get two.
- 34:28SPEAKER_13: Because I think she's uh you're right.
- 34:30SPEAKER_04: I should keep my mouth shut.
- 34:31SPEAKER_04: Shut up, dude.
- 34:31SPEAKER_04: Just let it happen.
- 34:32SPEAKER_13: I should just tell my wife.
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: Okay, this could go either way.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: You could get two cakes or you get zero cakes.
- 34:37SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 34:38SPEAKER_13: So I'll just tell my wife, because I don't know, my wife won't listen to this until Thursday.
- 34:41SPEAKER_13: Exactly.
- 34:42SPEAKER_13: So there you go.
- 34:42SPEAKER_13: I'll tell her Mom wants you to make the cake.
- 34:45SPEAKER_13: There you go.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: So she And then and then if your mom makes cake, you got two cakes.
- 34:49SPEAKER_07: I got two cakes.
- 34:50SPEAKER_07: That's genius.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: Just stick with me, dude.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: I'll take care of you, man.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: I've got a million ideas.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: And then only one of them are good.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: I just gave it to you.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: So you know.
- 35:00SPEAKER_13: I'm gonna do that.
- 35:01SPEAKER_13: I'm gonna tell her, yeah.
- 35:03SPEAKER_13: Mom wants you to make the cake.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: And and and then So either either way, you're gonna get a cake.
- 35:08SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 35:08SPEAKER_13: You might get two.
- 35:09SPEAKER_13: I might get two.
- 35:10SPEAKER_13: I might get just one.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: You might get just one.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: But I'm gonna get one.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: But you're at least as long as you get one, you're good.
- 35:14SPEAKER_13: Alright.
- 35:15SPEAKER_13: So I like that.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: It's way better than zero.
- 35:17SPEAKER_13: I like that.
- 35:18SPEAKER_13: Hey, let's do mixtape.
- 35:20SPEAKER_13: Hey! Okay.
- 35:22SPEAKER_13: Wait, you gotta do the.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Well, give give me a second.
- 35:25SPEAKER_13: I gotta get ready.
- 35:26SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: It's mixtape!
- 35:30SPEAKER_13: I feel like I should have some other music.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we should do something.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: We should ring a bell or.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 35:39SPEAKER_13: All right.
- 35:40SPEAKER_13: I gotta think now because I now I know the question, and I and I didn't put anything on it.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 35:44SPEAKER_04: I gotta well, I gotta go we gotta go past present view.
- 35:46SPEAKER_04: Right, right, right.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: So let's see.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: So this is what our most excellent judge said.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: What was the question?
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: Uh that was the uh um dedicate a song to somebody.
- 36:16SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah, okay.
- 36:18SPEAKER_04: Uh this week was really good, but really difficult.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: I cackled, Doug, after hearing your pick.
- 36:24SPEAKER_13: What was your pick again?
- 36:25SPEAKER_13: I can't remember.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: It was uh it's the end of the world as you know it, and I feel fine.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: Uh Christmas music, in my opinion, is extensively overplayed.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: I'm business during the holidays, and it was perfect timing to have It's the End of the World As We Know It Come on Air immediately after a Christmas song.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: However, this week came down to O'Brien and Larry.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: Two very beautiful song dedications that really pulled at the heart and a near impossible pick.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: You could say it pretty much came down to a toy down to a coin toss.
- 36:55SPEAKER_04: What was Larry's?
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: I can't f I can't remember.
- 36:57SPEAKER_04: What was it?
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: Uh it was um It was to his brother who passed.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 37:03SPEAKER_04: Uh what was the song?
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: Oh, uh Tears in Heaven.
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: Tears in Heaven, that's right.
- 37:06SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: Uh though I think each song was a perfect dedication, I went with O'Brien's pick this week.
- 37:12SPEAKER_13: So that's probably because it's you know, I don't know, because of the backstory.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe.
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: It was a song you wrote.
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: So there you go.
- 37:21SPEAKER_04: That's cool.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: So you yay me.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: So presently.
- 37:28SPEAKER_04: I think I just picked one.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, good.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Just as we were.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: So this week's question is theme music, your theme music plays every time you walk in public.
- 37:36SPEAKER_13: Oh, never mind.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: So this is what cousin Larry said.
- 37:43SPEAKER_04: And we this is what he, you know, because you know, you know, Larry, he goes like songs before he gets to his actual song.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: I gotta go with bad to the bone.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: But honorable mention to Yakity Sax.
- 38:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, and I'm alright by Kenny Loggins.
- 38:03SPEAKER_04: Let's go with that instead of bad to the bone.
- 38:05SPEAKER_04: And I said, alright.
- 38:06SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I'm alright.
- 38:09SPEAKER_13: Hold on, I'm gonna I'm gonna get I'm gonna pull it up because I do have that in here.
- 38:12SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 38:14SPEAKER_13: Somewhere.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: Somewhere over the Apple computer.
- 38:25SPEAKER_08: There it is.
- 38:27SPEAKER_13: Um, okay, so I had one in my head because a full disclosure, I forgot the question as we started the podcast, and Doug reminded me of the question.
- 39:07SPEAKER_13: So as we're talking this whole time, I've been trying to think of what my theme song would be.
- 39:11SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 39:11SPEAKER_13: But I didn't realize you didn't give me the the second part of the question was it's the song that plays when you enter a room.
- 39:18SPEAKER_13: Or walk in public.
- 39:19SPEAKER_13: When you walk in public.
- 39:20SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 39:21SPEAKER_13: So the song that I picked is kind of lame for that.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 39:24SPEAKER_13: So I'm gonna I'm gonna rethink mine.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:28SPEAKER_13: Uh while you're giving me yours, but if I can't come up with one, I'm just gonna go with my original one.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:32SPEAKER_13: Um, so so I'm alright from Kenny Loggins is Cousin Larry's.
- 39:36SPEAKER_13: What's yours?
- 39:37SPEAKER_04: Mine is Resignation Superman.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: I knew you were gonna say that.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: Well, of course.
- 39:40SPEAKER_13: I knew you were gonna say that.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: It's Resignation Superman by Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
- 39:44SPEAKER_13: And it's it's perfect.
- 39:45SPEAKER_13: Uh let's see.
- 39:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, I have a tattoo of it, so you know.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: It's gotta be the song, man.
- 39:56SPEAKER_13: Uh well do you mind the live version?
- 39:59SPEAKER_13: I like the live version.
- 40:00SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 40:42SPEAKER_04: And that's I think.
- 40:43SPEAKER_04: Remember, because I I showed it to Todd when we were in line.
- 40:46SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 40:46SPEAKER_04: I was like, Todd! I did this for you or stuff like that.
- 40:51SPEAKER_04: Cool, man!
- 40:51SPEAKER_13: And I think that that backstory right there is gonna get you a win next to next week.
- 40:55SPEAKER_13: I do.
- 40:56SPEAKER_13: This is a perfect song for you, and the fact that you have it tattooed and you showed it to the writer of the song.
- 41:01SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 41:05SPEAKER_13: Okay, so mine.
- 41:07SPEAKER_13: I I couldn't think of one.

- 43:34SPEAKER_04: I gotta send this cousin Larry.

- 44:10SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 44:11SPEAKER_13: Hear about that beetle song.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Hear about a beetle song.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: Did you hear about a beatle song?
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: No, I didn't.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: What was it about?
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: It was about the Beatles.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: It was a thong.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: It was a thong.

- 45:43SPEAKER_13: Before I start the music, I have to tell you, so I had a um chorus meeting with uh some of my my uh students the other day, and one of them was they're holding like six CDs, like physical CDs.
- 45:56SPEAKER_13: I was like, impressive.
- 45:57SPEAKER_13: What uh what let me let me see?
- 46:00SPEAKER_13: And it was Ace of Bass.
- 46:02SPEAKER_13: It was No Doubt.
- 46:04SPEAKER_13: It was Wait, which no doubt?
- 46:06SPEAKER_13: Uh the one that has spider weapons on it.
- 46:08SPEAKER_13: Oh, the first one.
- 46:08SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 46:10SPEAKER_13: Uh it was uh there was a Britney Spears one that I'd never seen, actually.
- 46:14SPEAKER_13: Um and a couple other ones, but they were like like retro from like the 90s.
- 46:19SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:20SPEAKER_13: And so uh he's he he's telling me, he's like, you know, I've got I've got I've got like oh I've got I collect DVDs and CDs.
- 46:28SPEAKER_13: I said, Oh yeah?
- 46:29SPEAKER_13: He says, yeah, I've got like 40 CDs.
- 46:32SPEAKER_13: I said You do?
- 46:34SPEAKER_13: I think he said 40.
- 46:35SPEAKER_13: Maybe he said more than 40.
- 46:36SPEAKER_13: But I said, you know.
- 46:41SPEAKER_13: You know, I do a podcast.
- 46:43SPEAKER_13: You do a podcast?
- 46:44SPEAKER_13: Yeah, what's your name and your podcast?
- 46:45SPEAKER_13: Never mind, you don't need to know the name.
- 46:46SPEAKER_13: These are my students.
- 46:47SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 46:48SPEAKER_13: You don't need to know the tell me your name and your pocket.
- 46:50SPEAKER_13: No, no, no, I don't want you to know.
- 46:51SPEAKER_13: Uh but anyway, on this podcast, we do this thing where we climb the wall of tunes and I have like thousands of CDs, or at least a thousand CDs.
- 47:01SPEAKER_13: Really?
- 47:01SPEAKER_13: What's the name of your podcast?
- 47:03SPEAKER_13: So I said, O'Brien and Duck.
- 47:05SPEAKER_13: So they're like, I'm gonna find it right now.
- 47:07SPEAKER_13: And they found it, and they subscribed.
- 47:09SPEAKER_13: Nice.
- 47:11SPEAKER_13: So I'll take it.
- 47:12SPEAKER_13: I'll take it.
- 47:13SPEAKER_13: Anyway, so let's.
- 47:14SPEAKER_13: That's awesome, though.
- 47:15SPEAKER_04: That's some that's some nice retro stuff.
- 47:17SPEAKER_13: Right, that's awesome.
- 47:18SPEAKER_13: That's kind of cool.
- 47:19SPEAKER_13: Uh alright, let's start the music.
- 47:22SPEAKER_13: And while uh I'm gonna I'm gonna take off my headphones and climb the wall, and you're gonna read from the Hard Day's right.
- 47:29SPEAKER_13: Hard days right on a second before we're going on.
- 47:31SPEAKER_13: No, is somebody on the stairs?
- 47:35SPEAKER_13: I could have sworn somebody came down the stairs.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: Alright, I'm gonna take on my headphones.
- 47:43SPEAKER_13: You uh start reading.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, so alright, so this is uh from Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club land.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: Good morning, good morning! Yay! Let's see here.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: So about and this is not one of my favorite songs, I'll be honest with you, but it was definitely interesting.
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: Uh Paul dominated Sergeant Pepper mainly because John had become lazy as a songwriter.
- 48:10SPEAKER_04: Never venturing from home if he could help it, and only drawing inspiration from things immediately to hand, such as the television newspapers, a child's painting, or a poster on the wall.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: Anything that came into the house.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: As a result, Good Morning, good morning was a song about having nothing to say.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: A piece of garbage, as John later described it.
- 48:30SPEAKER_04: A song about his life of indolence.
- 48:35SPEAKER_04: Indolence?
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: Indolence?
- 48:37SPEAKER_04: Indolence?
- 48:39SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 48:40SPEAKER_04: Big word there anyway.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: It was the result of too many drugs, a cold marriage and days measured from meal to meal, and in banal television programs such as Meet the Wife.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: Quote, when he was at home, he spent a lot of his time lying in bed with a notepad.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: Remember Cynthia of this period.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: When he got up, he'd sit at the piano or he'd go from one room to another listening to music, gopping at television and reading newspapers.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: He was basically dropping out from everything that was happening.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: He was thinking about things.
- 49:09SPEAKER_04: Everything he was involved in outside the home was pretty high powered.
- 49:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's kind of a heading the home is not to roam.
- 49:20SPEAKER_06: Then you're in town.
- 49:23SPEAKER_06: Everybody knows it's a good thing.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Definitely at their best stuff.
- 49:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no.
- 49:26SPEAKER_04: While sitting around in this state of mind, odd sounds and scrapes, scraps of conversation would trigger ideas.
- 49:32SPEAKER_04: It was a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes that gave John the title and chorus of Good Morning, good morning.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: The black and white commercial featured nothing more than cornflakes being tipped into a bowl.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: The four-line jingle went, Good morning, good morning, the best to you each morning.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: Sunshine breakfast, Kellogg's Cornflakes, crisp and full of fun.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: I did not know this.
- 50:00SPEAKER_04: This could have sounded very mundane if George Martin hadn't spiced up the backing track with Sounds Incorporated and tagged a series of animal sounds to end the track.
- 50:11SPEAKER_13: And to start the track, too.
- 50:13SPEAKER_06: There's minimal to go to the body.
- 50:31SPEAKER_13: That's great.
- 50:31SPEAKER_13: It's blow mind-blowing.
- 50:33SPEAKER_13: It's mind blowing.
- 50:39SPEAKER_13: Not just the Beatles either, just most of the anything that came from that era.
- 50:43SPEAKER_13: Yeah, for sure.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: I have this album on vinyl.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: It's a special one.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: It's basically, you know, the cover of it.
- 50:50SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 50:50SPEAKER_04: That's also impressed.
- 50:52SPEAKER_04: That's actually the actual album.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: Oh wow.
- 50:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 50:55SPEAKER_04: It's really neat.
- 50:56SPEAKER_04: That's cool.
- 50:57SPEAKER_04: It's very I found it at KMH.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: I just happened to be going through the stacks and I found it.
- 51:01SPEAKER_13: And I was like, wow.
- 51:02SPEAKER_13: How did what?
- 51:04SPEAKER_13: How did they do that?
- 51:05SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 51:05SPEAKER_13: It was great, man.
- 51:07SPEAKER_13: Um, alright.
- 51:08SPEAKER_13: I have an album.
- 51:09SPEAKER_13: Uh so let's guess it's a good one.
- 51:12SPEAKER_04: Is it a band?
- 51:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: Well, it's a band or it's not a band.
- 51:21SPEAKER_04: It's two people.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: So it's like a duo?
- 51:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:24SPEAKER_13: I would call that a band, though.
- 51:26SPEAKER_13: They have a band.
- 51:29SPEAKER_04: There's a Lohan and Navarro.
- 51:33SPEAKER_13: Why is that the first one you guessed?
- 51:35SPEAKER_13: I was expecting like Hollow Notes.
- 51:37SPEAKER_13: Brooks and Dunn.
- 51:38SPEAKER_13: You know?
- 51:39SPEAKER_13: Not with you! Not with me.
- 51:40SPEAKER_13: No.
- 51:41SPEAKER_13: Now.
- 51:42SPEAKER_13: Uh yes, Loan and Navarro.
- 51:44SPEAKER_13: I love No and Navarro.
- 51:45SPEAKER_13: I love Lohan and Navarro as well.
- 51:47SPEAKER_13: I don't know if we've done this album.
- 51:49SPEAKER_13: Have we done this album?
- 51:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know, man.
- 51:50SPEAKER_04: We haven't done Loan Navarro since like one of the Loan and Navarro was one of the first Wall of Tunes.
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: I think you've actually did.
- 51:57SPEAKER_13: We haven't done it in literally years.
- 52:00SPEAKER_13: I think um you know what?
- 52:03SPEAKER_13: I So it'll be it'll be brand new for everybody.
- 52:06SPEAKER_13: I think I want to play.
- 52:08SPEAKER_13: I'm gonna play some from this album, but I'm gonna play some from other albums too because Loan and Navarro.
- 52:13SPEAKER_13: Loan and Navarro was an act that I found.
- 52:17SPEAKER_13: Um they're not a Yeah, it was it was way back in season like one or two.
- 52:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:24SPEAKER_13: Okay, so how do I explain this?
- 52:29SPEAKER_13: So I've explained before when I was in radio, we would get um these well now they call them like EPs, right?
- 52:41SPEAKER_13: Because they're like five song CDs.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:45SPEAKER_13: But they come from a larger album.
- 52:47SPEAKER_13: Right, like or or in other words, I told I talked about the Toe the Wets Rocket one where you know if Toe the Wets Rocket put out a new single from their current album, they would put out a s a CD with that song on it, plus two or three songs from other albums.
- 53:02SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 53:03SPEAKER_13: Um, and they would send it to radio stations.
- 53:05SPEAKER_13: Just as like, hey, remember us?
- 53:07SPEAKER_13: These are the songs that you played before.
- 53:08SPEAKER_13: Here's our new one.
- 53:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:09SPEAKER_13: You know, that type of thing.
- 53:10SPEAKER_13: Well, I was working at the X and Um I found a Loan and Navarro EP.
- 53:18SPEAKER_13: So and a lot of it was there was a couple that were live uh live tracks, and fell in love with it because the harmonies were just amazing.
- 53:26SPEAKER_13: What um Dan Navarro, uh who also does uh voiceover work out in California, um he is the low grovelly voice, and Eric Lowen was the higher tenor type voice.
- 53:39SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 53:39SPEAKER_13: Uh but they blended so beautifully uh together.
- 53:43SPEAKER_13: And so when I discover something like that, I I dive deep.
- 53:48SPEAKER_13: And I was like, oh they have albums, I'm gonna I'm gonna get looked at some of their albums.
- 53:52SPEAKER_13: And this is I besides the EP that I had, I think this was the first album that I got.
- 53:56SPEAKER_13: It's called Broken Moon.
- 53:58SPEAKER_13: So first I want to play a couple uh tracks from from this album.
- 54:02SPEAKER_13: Uh if I can, because it doesn't look like I don't have I don't have it in here.
- 54:07SPEAKER_13: Holy cow, I don't have Broken Moon in here.
- 54:10SPEAKER_13: But what I do have is a couple there's at least one song on here from this album.
- 54:19SPEAKER_13: Two songs.
- 54:22SPEAKER_13: No, three songs.
- 54:23SPEAKER_13: Alright, so one! Okay, so three let me try and explain this.
- 54:29SPEAKER_13: So Broken Moon uh is an album that came out in 93.
- 54:37SPEAKER_13: You're guessing 93?
- 54:39SPEAKER_13: Uh you're right.
- 54:41SPEAKER_13: Good guess.
- 54:42SPEAKER_13: You're the man.
- 54:44SPEAKER_04: Um so it has 12 tracks on it.
- 54:47SPEAKER_13: Well, the the EP that they sent had the first single from this album.
- 54:52SPEAKER_13: It's called I've Had It All.
- 54:54SPEAKER_13: So I'll just play a little piece piece of that.
- 55:58SPEAKER_13: Okay, so that's the single, and then the rest of this EP is, for the most part, live versions of some of their other songs, and there are two, at least two songs on this EP that are from this Broken Moon album.
- 56:13SPEAKER_13: So this is just a CU.
- 56:26SPEAKER_13: And largely acoustic based.
- 56:28SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 56:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 56:30SPEAKER_13: And I wouldn't, I don't know that I would call them a folk duo.
- 56:33SPEAKER_13: It's not really like pop duo.
- 56:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's it's poppy.
- 56:36SPEAKER_13: Yeah, but they never had they had a lot of regional success out in California.
- 56:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 57:31SPEAKER_13: This is a library show.
- 58:12SPEAKER_13: Okay, so and then we have a couple, there's like at least two, there's three covers on this EP EP.
- 58:18SPEAKER_13: Um, and I'm not playing anything from the actual album that I picked because I don't have that for some reason in my iTunes, I'm not sure why.
- 58:25SPEAKER_13: Um apparently.
- 58:28SPEAKER_13: Um, but they there's three covers, live covers, and this is an old um left bank song called Walk Away Renee from the 60s.
- 58:38SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah.
- 58:39SPEAKER_13: Great song.
- 58:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 58:40SPEAKER_11: And when I see the Sun points one way The Love we used last night every day, just walk away.
- 58:59SPEAKER_11: You won't see me follow you back home.
- 59:04SPEAKER_11: The empty sidewalks on my flock on at the same You're not too late.
- 59:14SPEAKER_13: And then this one that they actually wrote, uh, they did have they did have success as songwriters.
- 59:23SPEAKER_13: Uh, and this is a big example of that, Pat Benatar.
- 59:26SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 59:26SPEAKER_05: Had this they wrote this song.
- 59:40SPEAKER_11: Twenty times I've tried to tell you.
- 59:44SPEAKER_11: Twenty times I've cried alone.
- 59:47SPEAKER_11: Always I'm surprised how well you cutting my feelings to the bone.
- 59:54SPEAKER_11: Don't wanna leave you really Just wanna break the ice.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_11: Do I look silly to you?
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_11: When I yield to your advice, when you say we belong to the light, we belong to the time, we belong to the sound of the word.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_11: We both fall in under Whatever we deny or we pray for worse or for better We belong, we belong, we belong together.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_13: Okay, so so there's a sad the sad part about this story is uh so um Eric Lowen, who is the high voice in this in this duo, um got Luke Eric's disease.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_13: Uh ALS.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_13: I want to say I don't know when it was, but maybe like 2000.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was about to say twenty years ago or something?
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_04: Was it was it that long?
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_04: It's been on quite a while.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_13: Let me find out here because I don't want to be.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_13: Yeah, now it's in Spanish.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_13: Yeah, now it's in Spanish.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_13: Let's see.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_13: Okay, well he died.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_13: Eric Lohan died at the age of 60 in 2012.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_13: Oh, okay.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_13: But I think he had it.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_13: Oh, we have had it for a while.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_13: So yeah, 2010 maybe, 2009.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_13: He came down with it.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_13: Oh, oh my goodness.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_13: Never mind.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_13: 2004.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_13: He was diagnosed in 2004.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: I thought, yeah, I thought it was a while ago.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_13: But uh but but didn't put he he passed away in 2012.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_13: So Dan Navarro continues to tour as a solo performer.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_13: He's the cousin of Dave Navarro.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_13: Yep.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_13: From the uh um well, he was in the Chili Peppers, but also from uh Jane's addiction, yeah.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_13: He's the one who just got in fight with the album.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_13: Um but I I don't know, I can't say enough about these guys.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_13: I love their music.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_13: Um and they put out uh consistently great albums.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_13: I think Pendulum in 2012 is probably my favorite.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_13: Um but um from the from the mid to late eighties they started putting out songs and and albums and uh just really great stuff and it kind of a uh kind of a um hidden gem, if you will.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_13: Um I know they did some stuff with Susanna Hoffs, the Bangles.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_13: They they wrote with Susanna Hoffs quite a bit.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_13: Um just uh just good stuff.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_13: So anyway, the album that I picked uh was is called Broken Moon.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_13: Um actually speaking of the uh Susanna Hoffs, it has a song that they wrote together on here called Maybe Later.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_13: Oh, there you go.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_13: Uh just let me let me uh we'll end with this here.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_13: Let me see if I can and she sings on it too, I think.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_13: There we go.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_13: So this is this is from that album.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_13: Um That's the Lion King.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_13: I know.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_13: Hold on.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_04: I know, maybe that's Mufasa.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_13: So this is Loana Navarro and Susanna Hoffs, a song they wrote together from the Broken Moon album.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_13: It's called Maybe Later.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_11: It doesn't hurt me any less when I think we did our best.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_11: Maybe later I'll believe we were never meant to be.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_11: Maybe later we'll stay.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_11: It's all for the better.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_11: If I ever see you again, I just might be a stronger by then.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_13: I got the wrong song.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say I yeah, I'm waiting and I haven't heard of this.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_13: This is not the one with Susanna Hopps.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_13: Hold on.
- 1:04:38unknown: All the points are.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_13: This is the one with Susanna Hopps.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_13: I'll set you free.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_10: What happened to the fire your voice?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_10: Don't try to work it out like this.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_13: It's just like ear candy.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_13: I mean the the melodies are just so catchy.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_13: Um so yeah, uh that's it.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_13: This gets me like I hear stuff like this, because we used to listen to this when we were oh yeah, we were writing and and things, and um I was talking to Mania uh at all roostic uh competition last weekend and he plays in a band with a guy named John Pascarelli.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_13: Um who who just opened a state of the art studio.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, that guy.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: I knew and I knew I knew that name.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_13: And I think I've told you about this.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_13: He charges forty bucks an hour.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_13: We need to take some songs in and we need to do a a d a duo PP or something.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_13: You and I.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_02: Yaw.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_13: Um I think it would be cool.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_13: I I'd like to take my stuff in and and do some demos of the uh of of the solo stuff too, but I think it's long overdue that you and I go do something like this.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_04: I'm down.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_13: Uh we just have to do it.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_13: We just have to pencil it in.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_04: Let's let's write it in our notebook.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_04: Record a s uh uh album.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: Acoustic album.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_13: Well and we can do a piecemeal too.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_13: He's he's uh he's open to that.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_13: Um Mania was talking, was you know, uh a a lot of good things about saying a lot of good things about him.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_13: So uh right now he's there's a lot of kids that are going in there.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_13: Oh, sure.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_13: And and and they're not prepared.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_04: Of course they're not.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_13: They're kids.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_13: Um They're like writing in the studio, and he's trying to tell them don't write it in the studio, get it ready and then come in.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_13: Yeah, of course.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_13: Um and it's a lot of like punk guitar type stuff.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_13: Oh, of course.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_13: He he looks forward to working with people that that you know uh know what they're doing.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_13: Know what they're doing.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_13: We don't necessarily know what we're doing, but we kind of, you know, have an idea of what we're doing.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_13: We have a better idea.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_13: We have a better idea of what we're doing, yes.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_13: Um yeah, I want to do that.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_13: You never know what we're doing.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_13: I want to do that, even though you know we're not gonna make any money from it.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_13: Um I just think it would be fun for posterity's sake.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_04: I still have a bunch of uh I still have a bunch of CDs from our debut Common Crossing album.

- 1:08:36SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_13: Uh like boxes.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_04: You should start giving it away to people, just walking out and saying, hey, you're you're listening to this.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_13: And you know, what's this?
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_13: And you know I should.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_13: Like every time we play, I should just hand them out.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: Why not?
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know, because I mean they're not doing me any good here.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_13: Exactly.
