- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Time for the 49ers Rush Podcast.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on, Fayford is absolutely incredible beauty guys.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: It is Thursday, it is coach approach.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: The vets are reporting in just two days.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: It from 49ers, cut back how are you doing my friend?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: I am doing great.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: I am excited about training camp.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is the time.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is the time that everything gets started, you know, and we know that there's like some interesting stuff that happens in week one, but ultimately once they get to pads, that's where we're going to really start seeing, you know, who's who and the 49ers have real competition this year.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you look at the depth chart up and down this rock.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that's where I spent the last month and a half going over is the roster the depth chart.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's like we get to see these competitions.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: We get to see these guys compete.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm excited to see it because I do believe this 2016 has a potential to go deep.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so how deep is going to be determined by who stays healthy and ultimately how well somebody's guys play, but it's an exciting time to be a 49er fan.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: There are moments in my life that like instantaneously, just like trigger the memory, whatever, and first day of pads as a player, as a coach, as a fan, that's just where it is.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's just a feeling that arises within where it's just like, oh, and I remember being in the locker room, and I remember as a player, I had a coach.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: just feeling like dude, I can't wait to hit somebody in the damn face.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then I would look across and there would always be one or two.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: And they had that look about them like a scared deer, they were nervous about first day of path.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: And it was just like, oh man, you better not line up against me.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: You better not like, I was not a very good football player.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: I was decent.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: But like, I was very violent and I loved the violence.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: I quit playing baseball because I was like, I don't get hit anybody but a ball.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Nah, it's not for me.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, like the competition, and this is why we love football.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: The controlled violence, you know, they did all that different in it.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: The drag green laws of the world.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: we need the violence in our life in a healthy way.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I think football gives that to us.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, ah, today's episode is fun.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a while since Aunt and I have recorded.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so we're going to be going over training camp battles, obviously.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about that.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: Do the 49ers have enough past rush.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to focus a lot second part of today's episode.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: Who will Brock pretty be targeting where we're going to take it a player by player approach who we think is going to be getting the majority of the targets from Brock pretty we're going to do it this or that through that episode that's going to be a lot of fun if you guys have questions make sure to get those up in the chat want to say take it all the hashtag cc's look at this shane in the house 40 hours football so close to get almost touch it it's right there man.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: It is right freaking there.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: We got John watching for Prague.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's what's up man my man.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: I freaking love that Yeah, it's just exciting to be back together and I appreciate so let's start it off
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: You've been breaking down the depth chart like no weather.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: And if you have not subscribed to the cutback, the $40 cutback, what are you doing, man?
- 3:42[SPEAKER_02]: You probably most of you guys are coming from there.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: But if you haven't yet, go subscribe wherever you watch and or listen the $40 cutback.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: So during your in depth research, which training can't battles, we're only two days out, are the ones that are at the forefront of your mind and the training can't battles your most excited about.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think one of the weakest positions for the 49ers is safety.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's one of the most intriguing.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think you've got four ingredients there and they're all a little bit different when you look at those guys.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think Marky Seagulls my favorite at the position because of the way he tackles the speed, the athleticism.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that he was just a rookie and I get it, he didn't play great last season and there was a lot of receptions on him.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: But when you're talking about the best tackler on the football team, it's him.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: But you've got the ingredients of him.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jaiya Brown, he's probably the best playmaker of the, the safety that are available.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: Malak Mustafa was at a sophomore slump or was it an injury?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the ACL did play a part in his development last year and how well he played.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then they added Ashton Davis to the mix as well.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: And you're talking speed on speed, played in the Robert Sala system has a good familiarity with what's going to be asked of him.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a guy that's going to step up in the box the way the other three guys do and play really well there.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: But he's got the ability to play on the back end.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a very interesting room.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: So to me, that's going to be one of the most intriguing because the 49ers need better safety play in 2026.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: If they're going to become the defense, they ultimately want to be.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, the password is going to help the linebacker play is going to be fantastic.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the cornerback play is going to be better.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: But that safety room is the big question mark.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: If the 49ers do get
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it is one of these young guys that they've invested in, I think that this defense can go from being top 15 potentially with the talent that they have to, like a top five defense.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's how much the safety room could matter down the stretch because they just got beat too much, uh, last season.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they need to get better.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Really the safety plasm and good since 2023.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's ultimately what the four years got to fix where he, where he was done a pretty good job in the past.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Can't he do it again?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's going to be one of the big ones I'm watching.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and we talked, you know, about a month ago about how a healthy Fred Warner and the coverage, that's going to help out the safety play dramatically.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: So, so that's huge.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: You now have more corner back depth and that's one of the spots I want to stay in the defense of back room.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and Matt Meoko coming out talking about how there's a healthy competition between Jack Jones and Ronaldo Green.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that this was a little strange to me, not not because
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: there could be a competition there, because Jack Jones signed a $1 million deal with zero guaranteed, meanwhile, Nate Hobbs, 3.1 million fully guaranteed deal, not mentioned in this conversation.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, not so much, I'm not trying to throw shade.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: I was just kind of shocked.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do you not see Nate Hobbs in this outside corner back?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: It was signed way before Jack Jones.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: He's played.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: It has to play as much outside as he has.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Nate Hobbs can play all over the place.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: What do you what's your take on this corner back?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: Battle is it really a battle is it Ronaldo greens?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: How do you see that?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think Renardo Greens, you know, got the leader in the clubhouse, you know, situation right now.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to give them the opportunity to go out there and prove it.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think with Nate Hobbes is interesting, and you know, the 49ers kind of mentioned that they liked what they saw when they had the joint practices with the Raiders.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: a couple years ago and he was playing primarily the nickel and that slot roll.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what they look at him as.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Green Bay, they signed him as an outside corner.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Did that work out?
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we don't know for sure.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Nate Hobbes had a lot of injuries.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, their defense of coordinator who really liked to move on to the Miami Dolphins as the head coach as so things changed.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that they look at Nate Hobbes more of a versatile piece.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think they are still looking to run some buffalo nickel type situations.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're looking to use him to help neutralize some of these 13 personnel looks because Nate Hobbes is really good against the run.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Rank 17th last year and run stopping in Jack Jones.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: He ranked 15.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're talking about guys, you play the run a lot better than Ronaldo Green.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys definitely do it.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I was on this a couple months ago about Jack Jones.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Jack Jones
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't go anywhere with an intention to be a backup.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Jones is just, what are those guys?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's about business.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to go out there and be a dog.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's the ultimate opportunities going after the football.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the 49ers are looking for uptick in turnovers.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Jones is that guy.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Eight career interceptions for those return for touchdowns.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to push Ronaldo green.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is the best situation for Ronaldo too, because guys who don't shy away from competition are going to get better by being pushed by players behind him.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Ronaldo Green was pushed last year by Darrell Litter Jr. Jack Jones is going to do that Nate Hobbes is going to do that too and make no mistake.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: This 49ers defensive coordinator is going to give Nate Hobbes an opportunity if he's the best player, they're going to play in that corner.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: They don't really care.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're looking to win right now.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I think Hobbes is in the conversation, but I think they see him more as a versatile piece that's going to play on the inside compared to the outside, which I think Jeff Haffley thought he was going to be an outside corner.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49ers like Jack Jones for that role behind
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: So do you see Hobbs kind of being that big nickel you talked about the Buffalo nickel Which the Niners do you know they're above average as far as NFL Man, why not just leave up and stout out there.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: I know he's small, but damn he's so good in the run game I last year one of the things that just upset me the most is how much they took up and stout out of the game
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: So how do you envision like you mean the 49ers paid more for Nate Hobbes than they have a corner and a very long time you had to go all the way back to Richard Sherman and so like why did they make him such a priority Nate Hobbes if he's just going to be a rotational big nickel piece.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't know so much if he's just going to be a rotational piece.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think one thing that they look at with these guys is how to use them in different sets.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they're going to be very multiple with their personnel groupings.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's going to be times up and stout and Nate Hobbs are out there together.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: You don't maybe they pull their sand back or depending on the personnel they're going to play.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: where him is very unique that way where he likes to get different guys on the field and do different things.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's going to happen sometime.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think sometime you're going to see Nate Hobbs and updens that out there.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not one of those safeties or maybe not one of those linebackers.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to take a look at getting some unique looks.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that way they can slow down some of these teams.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: So teams are they're looking to find different ways for different matchups.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think when you look at what the forties invested in with a guy like, you know,
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are all big bodies that can deal with bigger tight ends.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's one thing they are worried about when it comes up and stout up and stout.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: You put them in the slot against a wide receiver.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to do a great job even a bigger wide receiver.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: He'll do a he'll do a fine job.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: But you put them in there against what are those big six foot four six foot five tight ends.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: They can just body him.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the 40 years want to have a guy that's a little bit bigger, a little bit more physical.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: And Nate Hobbes, you don't lose anything in the run game.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: But you also still get a little bit better coverage when it comes to physicality.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like up and stout off the field as well, but I think there's going to be less times where he just off the field.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe some of these out there with Nate Hobbes and they're kind of matching up with some of these unique looks that personal groupings are going to in the NFL.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and right here Joe, he asks, is there any more information about Stout possibly moving to safety?
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't heard anything about this.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: I want to keep them at nickel, full-time nickel.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: I value that position more than safety.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like the Niners value that position more than safety as well.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: But have you heard anything?
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen some rumbling around some of the 49ers content creators.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think the David Lombardi had kind of...
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, put that out there that maybe he was going to play some safety.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I know that in the process of the draft a couple of years ago, there were teams that were evaluating up and stout as, you know, a safety prospect, I think the 49ers envisioned him as a nickel, I could see some looks, maybe some unique hybrid looks, you know, a couple plays here or there where they put him in a safety position, maybe with a certain matchup or a certain look or a coverage that they're wanting to run.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, I think he's going to line up in the nickel and why wouldn't they line him up there?
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be honest, that he's probably going to be a probal caliber player this year.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: He improved so much last year.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of people put him on that kind of that, that, that, that, that,
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Mark of going up and becoming one of those really good players to kind of a breakout star this year and I think that up and stops really good, but I don't see the safety snaps.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the way some others do.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, I've been wrong before it could happen again.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: We got some Crohn's coming across shout out to Thomas, coming in from Copenhagen, Denmark.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate the generosity.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Good evening, where he's at.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: It is 10 a.m. Pacific time here, man, as somebody that came from, you know, France, I'm still a little not right.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: The wife and I were still struggling.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, how long this thinking jet lag lasts.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: But man, it comes 3 p.m. and I'm freaking, ooh, complete.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: It is not good, but I want to say taking Thomas really, really appreciated.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: Now, there's one more position battle that I really, really want to talk about.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: And Steven came in with some of this as well.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Can we hear the pros and cons of the running back to battle?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: In your opinion, not necessarily who the better player is, who's the better fit in the Kyle Shanahan scheme.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think it's going to come down to who catches the football, the best at the back field.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And probably who blocks better on third down, if those scenarios for themselves, I mean, I think those are two different answers.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: They are right now, especially.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, these are both guys who have really not shown that they are great past catchers in games.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think if you look a little bit of what James Madison, what Caleb Black did there, you could see some of the ability, but really Jordan James, the 49ers talked about what he did in his pro day and how they thought that that developed.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: and how good he looked catch in the football.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they go into this.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think Christian McAfrey's running back one.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think Jordan James is going to start getting running back two reps, and then I think Caleb and Black will get running back three reps early.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: For the mere fact that Jordan James has played in the system, he's been in the trenches with this team.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to have a better feel.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kaling Black is going to have to go take this job from him.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to leave this open.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: I even think that probably once Isaac Grendo goes on the public, they're probably going to add something else into this running back room.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Who's that going to be?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Is it going to be anyone significant?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that those three guys right there.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: it's going to come down to who does things the most consistent.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: Both these guys are pretty similar in the way they run in short yardage and as some of those things going to come down to the key factors of blocking on third down and catching the football and I would give the edge right now to Jordan James, but let's see what Caleb and Black does.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's got a lot of ability.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hyped about what people are saying about OTAs, but let's see what happens what he gets out there in training camp and everybody starts going full speed and then ultimately
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: No, I just keep going back to, you go to that stupid Seattle playoff game, which was one of the worst experiences ever, he was the only guy that had any pop whatsoever.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now, hadn't played all year, definitely fresh legs, whatever else, but 4.7 yards per touch against that defense.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: He looked apart.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: He looked apart.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, you brought up blocking that scaling black specialty.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: Catch the ball that's definitely got to go to the side of Jordan James plus he's been in the system for a year, but then you look at draft capital.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you spend a third round pick on Caitlin Black has been a fourth round pick on Jordan James.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: So therefore, you know, they value that's got to go to Caitlin Black side.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: The running back to position battle is so important.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: One, Christian McCaffery done practice a lot on training camp.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: He's not going to dress.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: He might dress for one preseason game.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are going to get a lot of carries.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have to make it through training camp, working your tail end off, you're going to make it through the preseason, getting free content to 15 carries in each preseason game.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be kind of survival of the fittest Charles Darwin type thing because if you get banged up, which we saw in Jordan James last year, he got put behind Isaac Rando and he didn't surpass him on the depth chart till halfway through the year.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: I am very worried about the depth in this and that runny back room.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: It is by far one of my most shaky positions because Christian McCaffrey coming off that 400 touch season scares the daylight out of me.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: No healthy experience behind them.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: So my two cautious and my two negative here and my like where's your worry meter with the running back room heading into the season?
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, I, I think you're right, when it comes to health and experience, I mean, you know, someone brought up in chat, you know, Steven said about Patrick Taylor being there too.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Patrick Taylor does give stability, but when you're looking for somebody that's going to be dynamic and move the sticks consistently, Patrick Taylor's not that guy.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: uh... that's why i do think that they need to bring somebody else in once i's a granda goes on the public i think it's almost inevitable at this point that that's where he's going to start i wouldn't be surprised if that's how he starts the season on the public for instance free up a spot so who is it that they bring in you know and i i think that that's one of the interesting things so i do have a worry about this this depth chart and the room uh... just because of that reason you know what are you gonna get out of those guys behind the cafe for the cafe having all those carries
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: I would love them to add somebody else who's that going to be I don't know, but I do think that they could use more competition to use more veteran leadership and you've talked about You know, Christian McCaffrey not practicing a whole lot.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of reps for Caleb Black and Jordan James, which is great everyone likes a lot of reps, but there is a thing is too much reps for running backs when it comes to
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: training camp and getting work in.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I expect him to bring a guy in.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder who that's going to be.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, could it be a familiar face?
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49ers are looking to address that room.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's why people keep talking about guys like Debo Samuel and others because he could fit a little bit of a role there.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a plain running back, but he could take some of those snaps away and make things a little bit easier, smoother transition when the cap frees out.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's going to be interesting the way that it goes.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: Now let's switch back to the defensive side.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: you brought up this question.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: Do the 49ers have enough pass rush.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, obviously, not 20 sacks, league worst.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you bring in Rehe Morris, who's a pressure creator.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: It gets a lot of lot of sacks.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_02]: It brings a lot of blitzers, many factors, all those different things.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: You trade for Oso Digi Zua.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Bosa, you're counting on returning.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: You draft Ramello height.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Is that enough?
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, that's the question, right?
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is one of the most interesting things because Michele Williams is coming off the injury is he going to be ready to go early on and even if he is, you know, that's not really what Michele was brought in for was these, you know, past rush snaps off the edge and I get it.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: They brought it with mellow height and that's going to be great.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, as McCall Williams is going to produce more than one sack like he did last season, and I get it, the injury cut a season short.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: OCDG is you was going to do good.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's great.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Think when you look at, you have one legitimate interior past-rush or an OCDG is you will, that is a proven commodity, you know what he can do.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, both I can get, you know, 10 plus sacks, you can get double digits sacks.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, what's that going to be?
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: Is that going to be 16 sacks between the two?
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: How many is Ramello Hygyn again?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Is he get five, six?
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're not that far above 20.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we know that Sam Okawa News a three and a half Max kind of guy.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've never seen Keon white really having explosive season.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's Max two sacks in his career.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's not a lot of sacks to be found.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I get it where he Morris is a very creative guy.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have to be very creative.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if they have enough past rush right now.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think they got some, but I think some other guys are going to have to develop.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Jason Holtman's going to have to be better.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think McCell Williams is going to have to take the next step, same with Keyon White in this system.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think there's some question marks about the 49ers past rush heading into the season.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny when you're talking, it reminds me of man on fire.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: What am I favorite movies ever?
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: Denzel, Washington, you know, Chris for walk it.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: And they're interviewing Chris for walk in the police.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: And they're just like, tell us about this crazy.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: This John Creasy guy.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, you know, I can't do a walk in impersonation.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: But he's like, make it be great at anything, cooking, dancing, whatever.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: Art, John Creasy.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: is death and he's about to paint his masterpiece right like that is the job that is being laid at the feet of Rehe Morris.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: Dude you you're going to have to get more out of what you are given.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Now, again, the difference between solid to Rheem Morris is man way more disguising way more multiple way more manufacturing pressures.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: This is what Rheem Morris has done everywhere he has been and he's been recalshing ahead a lot.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: So you're kind of hoping that you could see some of that.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_02]: My answer to do they have enough past rush is no, they do not.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: They really, it's improved from last year, but here, let's, let's rephrase the question this way, 10 being the best pass rush in the NFL, one being 20 stacks in a season, where do you put the 49ers on the scale of one to 10 as far as their pass rush heading into the season?
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: probably like a five, that's kind of where I see it right right in the middle, because I do see more production.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think Osa Digi's is going to help a lot.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's a big improvement.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Ramello Heights is going to bring some pressure off the edge.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think there's going to be some other guys that you know, where he more is going to get involved.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: probably from the line-backer position that are going to generate pressure as well.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I also throw it up and stout because that was one thing that the Falcons did a lot last year was bring pressure from that slot corner.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I do expect the nickel corner for the four answer bring pressure and up to stout.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they're going to be able to generate more pass rush.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: But to say that you're going to line up like 49ers of old and go four man pass rush and get after the quarterback, that's not what this team is built.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why all the conversations surrounding guys like Joey Bosa and Jdavion clowning,
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: to be there because the 49ers need a little bit more and the 49ers are they going to get it from McCell Williams.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think McCell Williams is going to have a better season as long as he's healthy.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know what that production is going to be.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's going to be enough to be another threatening double digit guy like Nick Bosa.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: no, I don't think that's on the roster.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to Joe.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: He says, is it something worth mentioning that people are saying height is too small.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: 6 3 2 40 definitely on the smaller end.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: Pass for a specialist only.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Joe goes on to talk about how Rahim Morris had to undersize guys last year.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: James Pierce Jr. Jaylon Walker, both of them over eight sacks as rookies.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: Does the size bother you whenever it comes to a player like Ramello high or can re-he Morris overcome that like he has in the past?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: The only way would bother me is if he was going to be a 3 down defense event, then I would worry about Melalite playing the run consistently.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're talking about a designated pass rusher, guys going to come in and rush from the outside.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's got enough length.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's got enough speed.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's got athleticism to move laterally.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be hard to get a straight shot on this guy.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's where they're looking at kind of that basketball crossover type mentality that he has.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: So if he was going to play, yeah, based down defensive end,
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'd have concerns about size, but we've already seen where he more has have this thing work.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: He bought a jeans pierced in J.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: Le Walker, but also byron young with the Los Angeles Rams as well, who I think is kind of the prototype for what Romero height they see him as.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: So to me that the first step is there, the length is there.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be just fine.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't really have a concern about his weight because of the type of role that he's going to be playing for this 49ers defense.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you know, I went back through and looked third round rookies with eight or more sex.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's only been done twice in the past four seasons by Rinyoung who you talked about in Kobe Turner.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: Both of them were coached by Raheem Morris their rookie year.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: So the only two times it's happened, Raheem Morris has done it.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: you're asking him to do it again.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: The player comp for Ramello height was by ring young before the 49ers even drafted.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's what we had in our draft.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're just so similar.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: They're similarly built.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: Can you get those same production levels out?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: that's a big question.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Biggie says, you know, they need to sign a vet free agent edge.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: They're still good ones left.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Clowny, Van Noy, Bosa.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm completely out on Geneva, and Clowny.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's a mercenary.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: He just cares about getting paid, does not care about winning.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: two years ago, when the Browns got eliminated for the playoffs, he asked if he had to practice anymore.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: And if he could just be done and not show up, they like, I do not want that.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the coach would be just says, no, we did the Devondrae Campbell BS.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: We've done that.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want you got to love football, clowning ain't that guy.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: Both, I think both has done, even they both said he's working on his golf game.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not too interested in that.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know is are you in the camp that man they need to sign or trade for somebody and bring another edge in or you do think there's enough in the room?
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to it if it's the right guy.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think you know, somebody highly motivated to come in.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it has to be at the beginning of training camp, though, either.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think that this thing can kind of stretch out.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: They can take a look at what they got.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, how remellified is playing?
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: How key on why it is adjusting to year two in this 49er scheme?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: And really let this thing play out.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: I even McCell, come here.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, what is he doing?
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: Because if you're looking for more past rush, that's another guy that can definitely do it.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, once again, he's not a three down defensive end.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't mind those guys.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't mind.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a jadevion clowny guy.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you really need the base down guy.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: You need a guy that can generate past rust consistently.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, I'm not against Van Noah.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Van Noah, I think would be a very interesting guy's bring super bowl mentality.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: This has got this played on a lot of really good football teams.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we know that he can play really well, and if you're looking for a guy, if you were he Morris, it's a little bit more hybrid, that plays like three, four outside linebacker roll, that's definitely something that Van Noe could do.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not against it.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: I do think it's not a bad idea to bring somebody in.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a couple of little strategic moves the four years can make on offense and defense at a kind of bolster their roster, but I don't think it's a rush either.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: These veteran guys don't want to be in training camp, anyways, you can make these signings.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: What you've let things play out is see who's going to play well.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: What's the point of signing one of these other guys who's not gonna get snaps?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let the young guys do it.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: So this is gonna be a wait and see a approach.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and shout out to my man Rick on Twitter.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: He says, are they going to trade for Crosby?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now is not the time for that.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the Raiders want to trade them.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: I definitely know the Raiders don't want to trade them to the Niners.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: The only possibility that you could ever have a getting Crosby would be at the trade deadline.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so you'll have to see.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: The good news is you'll have part of the answer.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is the way the 49ers approach additions for this season.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see what we got first.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: And then address that, you know, with the cut-down, you can add players, it's going to be back in players.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to be all pro players that you're trading for.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: You've seen these moves, you know, as the 53-man roster cuts happen where you get Brian Robinson Jr., you get Skymore, you get players like that.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're not going for these all pro-type players.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's just not built in with the 49ers plans and roster construction.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now,
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: get red hot, you need to play right before the trade deadline.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Then maybe that you've gotten guys like Christian McCaffer.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: You've gotten guys like Emmanuel Sanders.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: You've gotten guys like Chase Young.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's your bigger blockbuster items, but you're going to have to wait.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: None of those big moves are taking place at this point in camp.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers want to see what they have and what they built.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that 100% they wait till the trade deadline and that's the move that's supposed to put you over the top right that's the move that's supposed to give you a chance to go to the Super Bowl and when they've made these blockbuster moves it pretty much has worked out you know I mean you look at the deals that they made 2019 without a manual Sanders do they get there.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, look at 2022, I mean, minus Brock Perries injury, Christian McAfrey thing almost got them over the top 2023 chase young, you know, there were question marks about hustle, but he still brought a formidable force and people paid attention to him off the edge.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 40 years will do the same thing.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think Max Kraus becomes in the mix, but the thing is, you also don't know who else is going to be in the mix.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: The landscape completely changes about who's going to be available.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: There might be somebody cheaper that can gift you over the top.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think that you're right about that.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: uh... john has this goes on people talk about tight in for the forty nine years the ramps have five tight in to some point they're gonna have to release somebody or wave somebody don't it don't be surprised the forty nine don't try to actually get one of those tight in there's gonna be somebody and i think the nine are actually wanted to add a tight in the draft but this draft was crazy you know we were alive together in that second round like we thought there was going to be a run on wide receivers there wasn't only three wide receivers went in the second round
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: you had so many damn tight ends.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, like fourth and fifth round graded players going in the top 50 at the tight end, like everybody's tried to catch up with that, there's going to be some guys available.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now, are they the guys that you want to start?
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not, but the night or so shy at tight end, and I do not think George Kiddles going to be ready.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: So that is a position
- 29:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just pretty stinkin' worried about if I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: It is there, but hopefully you get somebody and now with Dinkens, you know, you're hoping Dinkens was gonna be one of those guys.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's on NFI, who knows, neither certainly have to disclose that injury.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: So don't look for updates anytime soon.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe somebody asks a question, maybe Kyle answers, I doubt it.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna be given Lane Kiffin answers.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you saw the Lane Kiffin quote.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I didn't see the SEC is like, oh, we're all going to die anyway.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, one of those Kyle answers, uh, but yeah, so that's kind of where that is now, you know, so that's the past rush.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: Now I want to turn and I'm going to I'm going to put ants feet to the fire here.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go through past catchers.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: We talk past rush.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go to the opposite side.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go to the offensive side and I want to know who is going to get more targets this year between a whole bunch of different wide receivers.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: This is our this or that.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to give in two choices.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to have to pick and if he is wrong.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to hold him account.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how, but it's not going to run.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: And it's never wrong.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to get to that right after this.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to need you guys for this one, because you're going to throw your names in the chat as well.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: The very first question don't give the answer, who is going to get more targets this season to Sean Stribbling or Captain Kirk throw it in the chat now.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get to it right after this.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers rush road trip is going into it's sixth year with over 40 events at road games.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: If you are traveling to see the 49ers play this year, you got to come party with us.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_02]: And on top of that, we give games, trivia, giveaways.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: We partnered with tick pick this year.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: All you have to do is search 49ers rush on any of the tick pick sites, apps, you name it, and on top of all of that.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: best dressed, giveaways, autographed jerseys, kids are always included and get in for free with a ticketed adult.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of times for select cities, we will have 49ers legends come out and you get to meet and greet them and get autographed.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Vorrow Bowman, Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, Fred Warner, are all players that we have worked with in the past and trust me.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself, we got you covered 49ers
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, look at this, my buddy David Walner coming in strong.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: Ask you, can I grow real beer?
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: I am not like it.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: This is it, man.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even shave over here.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: My dad never even shaved his eyebrows.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: It just doesn't grow.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: But then you look at it.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like, ooh, coming in strong, man.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: Coming in strong.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: So shout out to David Walner.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's a cowboy, man.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody treat him poorly.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: That is important.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: So here's the question.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: More targets this year.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be Christian Kirk.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to have more opportunities, especially early in the season, whether letting Strivling work in.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: What are the things that I think that Strivling is going to do this season is have some opportunities to stretch the field.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's going to be some big place from this on Strivling.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to find him.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: The get him the ball down the field and he's gonna have some opportunities to make some big plays I wouldn't be surprised if it's a lot of yards per catch That kind of thing, but I think when it comes to volume of targets, I think Christian Kirk is gonna have the opportunity to do that Not because John just because of what he's gonna be doing on the field, but also the position he's gonna be playing I'll be playing some slot to probably be playing some Z as well There'll be times where Peter saw comes off the field and I think Kirk will kind of slide in there and get some extra snaps
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that there's going to be some confidence from Brock Party and Christian Kirk.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Eventually, it'll get there with dribbling.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I think dribbling will probably make a monster come back as the season goes on and then he'll have some opportunities.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I think Kirk gets more targets for the entirety of the season.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right here, everybody is leaning and dribbling.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's who 49ers fans want, right?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: Your new toy, that's your first draft pick that you had this year, like you wanted to be dribbling.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: I like what Steven says, Kirk before the by-week, dribbling by seasons and it's gonna be close.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: Um, we got people fighting for Mac Jones.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you, Eric.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: I like that Robertson more than Kurt.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, that is, that's strong, strong, strong, all right.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go for the big heavy weights.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Evans or Ricky Pear saw.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, first, number five.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, who is it that you think will get more targets on the season as a whole?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the one and then play that many games last year, definitely dealing with multiple injuries, both of them.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: Is this just a health question or you're you're pretty bullish on Mike Evans in the 49ers.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like you're going to lean pretty hard to number five.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with Mike Evans.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mike Evans is going to have a huge impact.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's got his body right.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think that last year, he needed a year to kind of rest.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's kind of said that himself and the injuries gave him a chance to kind of sit back and get things together.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: poised to have a really big season.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he's going to get more targets.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that personal is going to get a lot of targets this season.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that Mike Evans is going to get more.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mike Evans is going to be an absolute monster in the red zone.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think people realize how good this guy is in the red zone.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Brock Perry is going to look for him a lot.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to make a huge impact.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: Those jump balls.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're coming.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: Get ready for it.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to put it up for Evans.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: And Evans is going to go get it.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I just want Proc.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty work on that back shoulder fade.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I want it so bad.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: I was watching.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: So like in the morning, I walk on the stupid treadmill and I put it on like highlights or something.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: I was watching to shine dribbling highlights from Ole Miss this past season.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: And there were like four back shoulder fades to dribbling and I was just like, oh, come on.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you do it Mike Evans, then eventually progress to Sean Stribbling.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man, unguardable, those big body, you know, deep threats, unguardable.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: Eric says, Evans is going to get 10 plus touchdowns, near a thousand give or take, I take it right now.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: I will take it right freaking now.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: All right, this one's a little bit more difficult.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'm giving you three guys.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: You got to choose one here.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: Most targets this season.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're going Jordan Walkins or to Marcus Robinson.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: We got a three headed beast here.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: Which one do you think gets the most targets out of those three Cowan, Walkins or Robinson?
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to Marcus Robinson.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that man.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at this guy, you know, the positions he played all three positions.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, Kyle's share in hand knows what he's got with the Marcus Robes.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then we seen Brock Perty and the Marcus Robinson relationship really developed last year down the stretch and they went into the playoffs.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: They were pretty seamless together.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know, Brock likes having guys he feels comfortable that they're going to be at
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the position they're supposed to be at and democracy's Robinson's going to do that.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think that a lot of people are kind of sleeping on his abilities to still help the football team and I know you want to keep the young guys Jacob Cowling, Jordan walk in.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: But there's something to be said about having a veteran that's going to do the things you need him to do and do the dirty work and democracy's Robinson's one of those guys.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I got I got the rob getting the most between those three to I'm a little upset at how much hate.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: and people were just looking past to Marcus Robinson.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: You don't win the playoff game against the Eagles.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_02]: You do not win that game.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_02]: That dude was manned up with Quinnion Mitchell, all pro corner and freaking ghosted his ass in the end zone for a touchdown, had over a hundred yards like how quickly we forget.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, we're talking training camp and all this stuff.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Demarchus Robinson was awesome in training.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but he had this suspension kind of fell out of favor with the quarterbacks for that month.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: He was gone.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: Came back to go out and get up there.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: But man, you go to that, you know, the bear's game that was awesome, he was great.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying, like, Demarchus Robinson still has a lot to offer.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: And man, how could like, you don't win the Eagles game.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: And people are just like, man, I get everybody always wants to go for the younger upside guys.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: I totally understand that.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: But I feel like I'm getting a little crazy over here because I'm just like, man, why are we forgetting about to Marcus Robinson?
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: This dude is a frill NFL player that can help in the red zone, middle of the field, he can play all three wide receiver spots.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: Doesn't do anything in special teams, so that's the big negative there.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, let me, I'm going to go back on a backtrack.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: What about just out of cowling and Jordan walkins?
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: I like counting to get more opportunities because of the type of play that he's going to have the quick screens, some of the, you know, the stuff over the middle of the field that he can take to the house, but also the fact that he's got the vertical game to go down field.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's just a little bit different when it comes to explosive.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: I know him and and walkins are supposed to be both fourth three guys, but Jacob counting's a little bit different when it comes to fourth three like he flies.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the Jacob counting's gonna have some more opportunities.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: Then Jordan walk-ins and I think walk-ins kind of gets a little bit lost Because he's an expert seever in the shuffle where I think there's one more opportunity for counting for a couching and to kind of find some opportunities for him to get the bowl in space rig and make something happen Yeah, it's weird because Coward and walk-ins really haven't played much one of them has to One of them's got to play like one of these guys gonna make the roster if not both of them
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, something's got to happen there.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, coween on that stutter.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like I just remember that like 47 yard catch on the right side where Brock pretty under throw him would have been a walk in touchdown and they didn't get another target all season and it was just like what the hell like you finally have a deep threat, but this dude out there, but shit hands go to shanahan.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: and it's kind of where it is.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: Shane, he's giving me my therapy.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, man.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Shane says, I think because people remember D Rob having a 15 yard head start to the end zone and getting caught from buying.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: He ain't fast as not what he is at this point in his career.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely not that.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: All right, last one on targets.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: This is the RB2 battle.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: Who gets more targets?
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan James or K-Lon Black this season?
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that one's this one was probably the toughest one because I don't know how this thing is going to shake out with who wins, but I'm going to go with Jordan James.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to have opportunities early on in the season.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think Caleb Black's going to end up being a really good player for the 49ers, but I wonder how quickly he gets in the Bobby Turner's good graces and gets opportunities to get on the field.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go with Jordan James early, but really I don't think these these two guys are going to have very many targets at all.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they're
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: really going to be splitting a very minimal amount of targets because when you want to throw the football, you want Christian McAfrey on the field.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think a lot of those are going to go to Christian McAfrey, and then Caleb and Black and Jordan James are going to kind of splitting the scraps that are left over.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know there's going to be a lot of such I think it'll be probably really close between the two, but I think Jordan James has yet because he's played in the system.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think he has a little bit more experience.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I have Bobby T's favor early on.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: Bobby T, baby.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: It may be I'm wrong.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm factoring in Christian McCaffrey missing a healthy chunk of the season almost by default.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the two times prior that he's led the NFL and touches and he had even more touches than those times last year.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't last very long.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: Not that I want him to be injured or anybody to be injured.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I just want to say shout out to Nick Scorton, one of your favorite draft picks.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: Dude went down, you know, card it off the field today.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: The very first practice for the Panthers.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's like a young, dead dude, stud.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: You called it the whole time.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: But like we gotta remember, injuries, we're not in his fans.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: We know this, injuries are a major part of the game.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm almost just like default CMC's going to miss time.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's only been healthy throughout the entirety of the season three times in his career.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Him to do that back to back times has never happened.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_02]: Am I crazy and just thinking and assuming dude, you need more running back.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: One of these guys going to play a lot.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they could.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what happens with McAfrey.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're right.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at history, the guy normally goes down at some point.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: I just wonder if, you know, he's figured this out.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_01]: He did carry, you know, the team a lot last year with the extra touches.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they've got a plan.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: Probably to give him less carries when it comes to touching the football.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why Jordan James and Kaylin Black are going to be very important for this football team.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: Is there going to give more touches in the run game?
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: the way that they did kind of with some of the other guys they've had in the past kind of let those guys have a little bit of the touch in the run game keep them out of the passing game McAfrey kind of adjusts a little bit more to being the third down back a red zone threat a little less touches but he's still gonna get a lot of those carry so opportunities for injury are there I just think that they want still when it comes down to throwing the football they want McAfrey on the field because he's just so explosive and he's a match-up problem
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so we'll see how the other guys develop, but um, a little more touches for them.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably very much a possibility.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think just more of those are going to be short yardage, run games at you, which is because Jordan James and Caleb Black are both very good, run game, a short yardage, run game guys.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I mean, Jordan James had over 30 touchdowns in the red zone when he played at Oregon.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: So these guys definitely get it done in those categories.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Why not let them go be battering Rams and let Christian McCaffrey chill on the sideline until you need him in certain situations.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: got to give it props.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: He was he was about a 25% way to his nickel sin impersonation and a few good men deep down into things.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: You don't talk about it parties.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: You want me on that wall.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: You need me on that wall.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's CFC.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, you would see if CFC has gone down.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: It has been
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully, Katelyn Black can rise to the occasion.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully, you know, Georgia james can rise to the occasion to where you're not so just dependent on just one player offensively, but man seems he's just so damn special.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: He's so special.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: uh... and yet you know he's down there getting all the you know print platelets and stem cells and all that stuff and so it's kiddo and so it's called to be kids and all those guys are doing that now hopefully man it would be great if the 49ers got the rams look it just stayed completely healthy for an entire year they since big day showed up they've been the healthy you know top five healthiest team nine out of ten seasons the one time they weren't they didn't make play us
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: Can the $40 get that look?
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: One time the 49ers were in the top five health wise that was 2023 until they got to the Super Bowl.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_02]: And then a bunch of injuries started happening and the Super Bowl is kind of what it is.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pissing myself off as I'm talking and I apologize to everybody.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now, last topic, I wanna shift it up just a little bit.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: Defensively, this is one of the things I'm kinda curious about.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you had to pick three defensive captains, only three,
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: Who are the three defensive captains that come to mind?
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: Now last year, you had, you only had two.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was just two last year.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: You had Nick Bosa and Diomedor the North.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: You only had two of them.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: But let's say you're just going to be three defensive captains this year, who are your early favorites that you're kind of leaning towards?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, of course, Fred, right?
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Fred's like overall captain.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: I would go Nick Bosa.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think Bosa is still looked at as one of those guys.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think you need so many on the back end.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where it gets difficult.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Normally, there would be a safety that you could count on.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that one of those guys is going to be a captain.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: Jommer La Nore.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: uh... a little shaky for me i like us a diggy zoo i like us a diggy zoo to be one of those guys i think just a the work you know the way that he plays uh... the way that people talk about him inside the locker the things that coming out from Dallas this guy is a leader amongst leaders uh... so i like us a diggy zoo for that role i think the armada probably ends up still having that role i just listening to some of the conversation you know George kittletalk can try to motivate the armada for this year uh... to get going but
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think that when you look at it, there's a kind of multiple players at certain positions, right?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: OSA diggyzua and Nick Bosa, Drake Greenlaw, Fred Warner, like those guys are the guys who have capped in ability amongst this defense, those who the guys I would kind of go with.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: Drake Greenlaw's never pitted capped in.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: I want this dude to get that sea patch.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: So freaking bad.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: Fred Warner, here's the three I would pick, personally.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: I would go Fred Warner, also it takes you to a drink green lawn.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: Bosa, I love, but
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: They, you can clearly see the difference between Fred Warner and that's not fair to Nick Bosa because nobody is as committed as Fred Warner, Terran, you know, his foot backwards and then given halftime speech, you know, it's different.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: There's, it's not fair to measure against that demo.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think showed enough last year as a captain and well, what to see how it goes because what happens is Kyle Shannon says, quote unquote,
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, the player's vote and then he takes the most votes, whatever else, a little bit of a North Korean uh, elections.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he turns over the results or they're verified.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think he kind of says who he wants it to be, but uh, I would not put that past collar all but man, too.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: Trake Greenlaw deserves a damn captain like he, he deserved it when he was here.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and, and I like this, too.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's a too soon for Upton because if I'm putting a DB and I put a C on that chest,
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: Dimo, no, and Dimo's a no for me.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: I know he wore the Captain Patch last year, but like he did not show leadership in crucial moments and even whenever he's made mistakes, he turns and plames other player.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, nah, it's not it for me.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know, Upton, does that even enter into the equation or the conversation at all?
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's getting close, you know, I think that if he has a really good season this year, I think next year, that's what we're talking about up to style being a captain on this 49er defense.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: I just think he's a year early, only because he was a rookie and he had a lot of things that he had to go through.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he showed improvement.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: He did a really good job and you could see him on the field, you go back and watch he's very vocal.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: He has no problems communicating with this teammate, which is a big thing for captains, especially on defense.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he could be one of those guys that turns into a captain for this defense.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: I like the thought process.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's somebody the 49ers can rely on to kind of be one of those guys because they are lacking leadership when it comes to the secondary I'm hoping that marquee single will take another step forward as well kind of in that same category because he's got the skill set around it Is he going to be verbal and that focal enough those are things that I want to see this season
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I like it.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: We got a couple questions that I got started from the chat.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, monkey boy, appreciate you.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: More importantly, can Evans or Strivlin throw a ball.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, this has been the Joanne Jennings role.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I went back and looked during the course of the show when Ann was teaching us lessons.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Evans has never attempted a pass.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_02]: Strivlin, I couldn't find in college.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: Christian Kirk has four attempted passes and is NFL career.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: So you still have Christian McAfrey can throw the ball So you have some of those options.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about Pearson.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about, you know Stribbling, but Christian Kirk has thrown the ball four times in his career and he's done pretty good with it Anything you want to throw in there?
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: That throw in there.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they'll have something.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle always has something up his sleeve.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: He'll figure out a way to get, you know, somebody the ball that needs to throw out who knows.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there's an offensive lineman that's going to sneak in there throw it or maybe a tie to who knows.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: He'll come up with something, but you're right.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have a guy that is a quarter.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Joanne Jennings was a legit quarterback.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, I mean, this guy was recruited to Tennessee as a quarterback.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: So he's different level quarterback for sure.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like it.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Uncle Rico style kid yada appreciate you can't wait to see you brother any chance Kansas city or a Chargers party definitely ready for Atlanta being being nine or king Cannot do Kansas City two closer Christmas wife said no But the chargers very very likely that we just do because that's a Thursday game.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's really close for us here so it again not finalized but
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: very likely I'm going to say 90% chance we're going to be at the chargers where we do an elongated tailgate because it's Thursday night game to where it'd be like a five hour tailgate and then walk to the game together that that's what we need more time to drink alcohol together.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah stay tuned for that one and stay tuned for some home games information coming right there.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: Ben has a question for Ant and again for all those days go to 49ers rush
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: Who doesn't have him with have winning the left guard spot?
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Connor Kobe's gonna have the first opportunity.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: I really do.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is Connor Kobe's job to lose.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is what the 49ers want.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the health of Brett Toath.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: If you give me the health of Brett Toath, I think he's a dark horse to be in the competition for this.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think when you look at the run blocking, this guy moves really good on the second level.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: He was coached to another level in Philadelphia.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: So he's somebody I'm interested in, but I think Connor Kobe's gonna get the first shot
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: and the guys behind are going to have to try to overtake him.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: So he's going to have to stumble.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: If he does, one of those other guys will be there because there's a baseline for who they are.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's a baseline for how well Robert Jones.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's at least a starting caliber left guard in the NFL.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I got Connor Kobe early and then we'll see how it plays out.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: We saw Connor Kobe yanked multiple times last year.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so, you know, we saw the same thing with radar or green, uh, we saw the same day on Marquis Siegel, you see this, the Niners will do that.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now, some of these guys get chances to go back.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_02]: lot more depth there.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_02]: So let me ask you this about Brett Toff.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: Did not play during OTAs?
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think he starts off on the pup or NFI?
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a really good chance he does.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's part of the reason that I can't put him fully into this conversation.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think at some point he'll be ready to go.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_01]: But that might put him in the kind of the John Fleecy on a role where he's just a backup early to Jake Brendel.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: maybe with an opportunity later if there's an injury or something at guard to kind of step in.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: I just think when you look at those guys, he's one of the most talented guys there.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's still 28, 29 years old.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's still some some opportunities for him in this future.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested and I wouldn't be shocked either.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: I want to put this out.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be shocked to see Chris first or go to a rotation at left guard with Robert Jones and with a love Connor Kobe.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: So don't be surprised if you see that.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think he would definitely do that as well.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: it's so clear to see who wins and also interesting of note you did not even say Carver Willis's name.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think Carver Willis fits into the real battles this season.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's more than elemental a little bit.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that they look at him.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's maybe the eventual center replacement we'll see.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: But right now I don't think that he fits into that.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to figure out a way to carry him on this roster that which is going to be interesting.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: but he's a fourth round pick.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: You don't cut fourth rounders.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: And like that's the thing.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: Carver Willis for me is way too raw player to go from left tackle to left guard without the anchor ability.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of his major question marks.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's why he's a prototypical center for me.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: But again, again, some validation here at night,
- 52:43[SPEAKER_02]: agree together is a vint diagram somewhere with john and and in the middle is carver willus is a center only uh so take that for what you will and and hopefully we're wrong hopefully carver willus is a probable left card year one but uh i'm not so sure Sonya want to say appreciate Sonya she's awesome um will green lobby a rotational piece a healthy green law with the healthy one of skies the limit they've never done this in the past when green law is quote unquote healthy
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think they rotate them a little bit this year?
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think only with some of the secondary things that I think they're going to do some of the unique looks, there might be more opportunities for them to be off the field, only because I think they're going to have other guys in for coverage reasons, but I think when they have a two linebacker look, it's going to be Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw, and they're going to roll with it and.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: Craig Greenwell wants to be on the field and Fred wants his guy right there with them These guys go out there and they take care of business So I don't think it'll be for reasons to try to keep him healthy I think it's mainly just gonna be because this is what they need to do to win I think that's the whole thought process behind it But ultimately everyone wants very greenlaw available when you get to the end of the season and the playoff time because he's just he's a different level when you get into those big games He makes big-time plays
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: I argue all the time that Fred Warner's one of if not the greatest coverage line backer in the history of the NFL.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: Drake Greenlaw is the top 15 coverage linebacker.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's not Fred Warner, nobody is.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: But, I mean, you just look at the plays, multiple interceptions in the playoff game, he gets the Packers, the Seahawks, you know, stop at the one inch line, having Travis Kelsey fight Andy Reed on the sidelines and the Super Bowl, that was Drake Greenlaw.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_02]: That was doing that.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, Drake Greenlaw is a perfect two-way linebacker whenever he's at his best.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_02]: So pull it him off the field and cover it to run situations.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_02]: Does it really make a lot of sense to me?
- 54:35[SPEAKER_02]: I understand the idea of wanting to keep him healthy.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: but man, it's hard to take five, seven off the field.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_02]: Just like it's hard to take all the stall where it's off the field.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: Joe, is it likely at all that grendo and Cowan return kicks?
- 54:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna say grendo zero chance, one, he's got bench because he ran into his own players and fumbled multiple times, plus the pec injury.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_02]: I do not think that he is gonna be on the initial 53.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_02]: He'll have a pup designation, whatever.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_02]: Cowan returning kicks, punch, yes.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_02]: kick off.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe what are your thoughts on the kick returners?
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of like Caitlin Black and Jordan James to be the kicker turners.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they like the running back student Brian Robinson did it last year.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you get secure ballhandlers who are used to kind of navigating space.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that both of those guys would be would be good handling that.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm kind of rolling with the running backs, you know, unless they make another move and bring somebody in, I think that those guys make a lot of sense.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it'll be Jacob Cowling.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is Jordan Walkins, you know, chance to make the team if he, you know, provides good kick or turn duties.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, I think they're going to rely on the running backs and shorthand guys and it's not about getting touchdowns and kick return.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's about getting the best field position.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: These guys can get you out to the 45 50 yard line occasionally.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's really what they're looking for.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like that.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: Right here in notorious Gave with his always full back questions and I love it.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_02]: My friend, thank you for generosity.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: Captain juice three years in a row.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: How do you take how do you take it away from him?
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's he hit the decade mark baby hit the decade mark.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's he's he's full fledged captain and he's also going to be the ultimate utility player.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: The show I think he's going to play more tied in than he's played early on in the season.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's going to be a lot of a lot of looks with him kind of lining up.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, as a move tied in and I think they're going to rely on him a lot to.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: to play that role because Jake Tongis is going to need some help when he comes catch in the football.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think juice being in the tight in room, I just make too much sense.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers don't have to go 13 personnel because 21 personnel, they subdues out there.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: And he's basically like having another tight in.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they tried to with that week too last year.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_02]: And then juice got a little banged up.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then they were kind of screwed.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Because you remember, kiddo got hurt week one week two.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: They tried doing that.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_02]: Then juice got banged up.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that kind of threw that play in a way.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_02]: And they'd call even said, you know, we were,
- 56:58[SPEAKER_02]: prepare it all week for juice to be one of the side ends and then he got hurt.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: So that's there.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, shout out to Kyle use check.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: I would argue last year maybe his best season of the 49ers, which is crazy.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like there's a sweet spot for Kyle use check in that 20 to 30 snap range.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: You go back two years ago, he's played a 40, 45 snaps game, losses effectiveness, loss disc consistency,
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's a very old player.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_02]: I love Kyle use check, but I think that his sweet spots at 25 snaps a game.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm a little worried.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to overuse him and he's going to dip it back down in his efficiency.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's a big one.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: Big toe.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: What's up, man?
- 57:39[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe one of my favorite types of questions right here.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for a super chat.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_02]: What's the difference between a z's outshire and greenlaw,
- 57:51[SPEAKER_02]: Drake Greenlaw proved a little bit last year.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's a will.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_02]: So the communication you got to go a zeas at Letacism, got to go Drey.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: A zeas is unbelievable.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_02]: And you could argue maybe one of the best linebacker rooms of all time in the history of the NFL was when you had Fred Warner, Drake Greenlaw, a zeas and Kwan Alexander.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was just
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: some spicy spicy stuff, but a great green laws, the better will.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_02]: If you need a mic, I would prefer a z's, but you're not going wrong.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: This is a basking robins flavor of the weak question.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe a little bit more than who's better, but a green law, I would argue is the better player.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_02]: More versatile, a z's.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts?
- 58:36[SPEAKER_02]: What would you add to that?
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think when you look at them, I think that's the big part is as easy as can play Mike.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: The communications there, he can go silent to sideline, just like Dr. Greenlaw, he's pretty good in coverage.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'd give probably a little bit of the edge to Dr. Greenlaw when it comes to coverage.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: They're both very physical.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think Dr. H is a little bit more of a knockout guy when it comes to the physicality and the hits.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: and a little bit more of a playmaker but as he's is is very very solid corn are sorry linebacker those guys are extremely good but I would take Drey if I was looking for a wheel linebacker but I'm with you if I'm going Mike I'm going as he's
- 59:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, look at this, while a green law has a much more technically sound penalty after the whistle than as he's, I'm not so sure about that.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_02]: If what's crazy is both of them are enforcers, also both of them are to the greatest human beings off the field that do just so much, so many things for the people around them in society, you know, as these waterpate men in the year nomination, like,
- 59:33[SPEAKER_02]: these are two of my favorite people in the NFL because I love that Mike Singletary approach where you're a good dude and you know all that stuff but when you get on the field you're trying to kill people I love that and we're starting to show like we ended it and the the glorified controlled violence I need somebody
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: that offense of players are terrified of.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_02]: Aziz, they are scared of, trait green law, they are scared of.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: Fred Warner's the best out of all these three, and it's not close, but he's not like the Punisher.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he's a technically sound guy, but he's not, he can hit hard, but he's not like trait green law Aziz, where he's just out collective freaking, you know.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_02]: Freaking skulls out there.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're they're they're a little bit different.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_02]: So, man, what a linebacker room that was in 2019.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, even 2022, that's probably the best disease with the 49ers with Drake Greenlaw and Fred Warner.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_01]: That defense was the best 49ers defensive had in the Shanhand era to shame.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: It went to waste because of the injury at quarterback.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_01]: Three injuries at quarterback as it would be.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, that group was so good together.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why everyone's so optimistic about
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Martin can Nick Martin turn into the next disease outshire guy that can step in this year and play that Sam lineback a roll and start up because he plays with physicality and intimidation and he hits extremely hard as well.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: If you could get those two guys next to Fred Warner, that could be problems for some offense.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think he would, he would make some people think twice about running through the A gap, uh, he's in the game.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's on me right here.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate you, man.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_02]: Azize the throat grab or miss that guy.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes you got to Darth Vader it.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's just what it is, man.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Steven, Dre and Z's.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_02]: Looking to make you not want to come back after half time.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_02]: That matters.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_02]: that man I used to say this is a coach we do not play dirty if you get a penalty it better be because you're playing too hard not because you're dumb like I'm not taking dumb penalties but if you're playing so damn hard and you get hit with you know a 15 yarder for unnecessary roughness and this between the whistles and you're just playing too damn hard I can live with that.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_02]: crime of passion.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_02]: I can live with being stupid.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_02]: I can't do that.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so sometimes that line is blurred with the disease, it would trade green law.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_02]: I definitely has to be mentioned, but
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, you go in there and wall up somebody and suplex somebody or you're punching the ball out and you're not stopping When you got to blow that whistle, ref that ain't on me and you play to the echo of the whistle Until that whistle stops sounding.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: I still got time to hit you baby.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_02]: Oh freaking I love gladiators.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: I love warriors.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_02]: I love a z's.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and you are the a z's outshire of 40 riders podcast And I mean that and the best of possible ways we will not be having to show next week.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_02]: I will be moving and it's got some stuff going on
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_02]: But why don't you take us out?
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: Let's wrap up this show.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: We'll take a week, hiatus, and then we'll try to get back once training camp is in full swing.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_02]: But man, what a awesome show.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I just want to say thank you for all you do for the community.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_02]: Take a time to listen to my ramblings and all these stupid movie references.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_02]: And let's wrap the show up, my friend.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, it's a great show, John.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_01]: I really appreciate you having me on, like always great conversations.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, guys, we're going to be back.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you know what they say.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_01]: You got to stay strong, faithful.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's awesome.
