Transcript
- 0:00Get laced up. Let's go!
- 0:02It's time for Banner with the Boys.
- 0:12Yo yo yo, welcome back to Banner with the Boys.
- 0:15Fast laps. What am I doing with my hands?
- 0:17I don't know what to do with my hands, but we're back at it again.
- 0:22A MOLA recap Monaco preview.
- 0:26But of course as always right next to me we got Joe our co-host.
- 0:30Joe, what is poppin'?
- 0:31Doing pretty good. I think you're just making up for the lack of excitement during that dang MOLA race unfortunately.
- 0:37And we got another one coming up.
- 0:38Yeah, that'll be fun.
- 0:39Gotta do something to make it exciting I guess.
- 0:42But anyway, moving right along. Cole, how's your week been?
- 0:45Good, good. Is that a Will Ferrell throwback there?
- 0:48Yeah. What was that from?
- 0:50A Talladega knife.
- 0:51I don't know what to do with my hands. Just keep them down.
- 0:54Yeah, so anyway, Cole, how's your week?
- 0:57Good. Raining again. I don't know what it is about these podcasts, but every time we get poured on I feel like these days.
- 1:04So, I was hoping we'd get a storm, but we didn't.
- 1:07Oh, we did. It just is done and over with and it wasn't that intense like they said it was going to be.
- 1:13And not the storm we were looking for.
- 1:14Well for you guys, for sure. No doubt.
- 1:17Right next to him obviously we got Tyler. Tyler, what's going on?
- 1:20Not much man. Just getting the house ready to get moved in here. It's a lot of work.
- 1:26You haven't moved in yet?
- 1:27No.
- 1:28When is that?
- 1:29In a perfect road this weekend, but that depends on how fast I can get this family room floor done.
- 1:33Fair enough, fair enough.
- 1:34Hit me up, hit me up. My lady's going down to Texas. I'll help you out.
- 1:37Congrats, congrats.
- 1:39Thanks.
- 1:40And as always, not even as always because I always forget actually. So as always I have forgotten, but I will not this time.
- 1:48Kev behind the cameras puts this whole thing together. Thanks a lot buddy.
- 1:53Let's just move right into the Imola recap. Is it Imola or Imola? Am I the only one that says Imola?
- 2:02Imola. Should I break out the full name again?
- 2:04Yeah, yeah. The RSC Emilio.
- 2:07The MSC, yeah, no, yeah. Imola I think is, yeah.
- 2:10Alright, so Imola, recap. Let's just head right into Red Bull right off the bat for Stapp and obviously getting the dub.
- 2:20But if you saw the race, those last five laps he was kind of getting threatened, but we'll stick with Red Bull and then we'll definitely talk McLaren right after that.
- 2:29In my opinion, I think for Stapp and Skil straight up won the race in those final like 10 laps.
- 2:36It seemed like he was really struggling with the car.
- 2:39Lando closed on him, then Verstappen kind of gained some more pace back with like four laps to go, but then Lando was charging again.
- 2:47So what were your guys' take on Verstappen's closeout kind of the race?
- 2:54Yeah, his car was falling apart. It was just getting worse and worse as the race kind of got on as soon as he knows about those 25 laps left.
- 3:02And I would agree with you. I mean, it's not often Max has to turn into a defensive driver.
- 3:07He's always going to be an aggressive driver, but for him to actually throw the defense on and prevent Lando from making that pass.
- 3:14But I mean, Cecho, if we're going to bring the other Red Bull into it, terrible weekend.
- 3:19Just terrible weekend for the performance you should see out of Red Bull.
- 3:22And then for him to come in after the race and say that a Mola is not an F1 track. It's not meant for overpassing, which it isn't.
- 3:30It makes sense. There's only one DRS zone, but like you say that as you're going into the pinnacle of racing in Monaco.
- 3:36And you mean you have the best car right now. That's why you have the qualifying so you don't have to worry about that, right?
- 3:41Exactly.
- 3:42But I want to jump back on what you were saying, Tyler, around Verstappen at the end of the race.
- 3:46Obviously, he raced a great race. I think everybody was rooting for Lando to get within that one second, the two laps ago.
- 3:52Everybody was rooting for that. Obviously, we talked about it a little bit with the dirty air and everything being a little bit more difficult to get there.
- 4:00And it was all basically around the tire degradation, right? Did I say that word right?
- 4:05As far as I know.
- 4:06Tire deg.
- 4:07Degradation?
- 4:08Is it degradation?
- 4:09Tire deg.
- 4:10Oh, you're degradation.
- 4:11Just say tire deg. Tire deg is easier.
- 4:14But I think as far as Verstappen, it was a good race. I don't know. I wanted Lando so bad at the end there.
- 4:20I've never rooted for somebody so hard that I don't really root for normally. I was high on hand in the air.
- 4:25But it was, again, it was a boring race. Verstappen kind of just did what he did. And it's tough. It sucks.
- 4:32Yeah. Yeah. Very boring race. I'm pretty peeved we didn't see a lot of movement just throughout the field in general, especially within the top 10.
- 4:40In terms of Verstappen, I guess I'm a little surprised. I'm not super surprised. His weekend really wasn't looking good up until qualifying when he pulled in the fastest lap.
- 4:50I was, everyone was kind of expecting, you know, maybe this is another race where he gets second. But yeah, he pulled out of his hat. I agree. I think it was a lot of skill.
- 4:58He managed his tires well up until the very end. And then Lando proved that he managed his tires better and then pushed maybe a little too hard.
- 5:06I think the dirty air is a really good point. Yeah, just kind of maybe got a little bit too much in there.
- 5:12But two laps more and we would have seen a fight from him. I think that would have been cool. 100%.
- 5:16Yeah, a fight would have been interesting. Sorry, we can. I don't know if I'm jumping ahead here, but I was just looking here.
- 5:21Usually we don't have the spreads on the seconds. Yeah. And we have that in front of us here now. Oscar for a majority of the race was catching up to LeClaire. Am I wrong?
- 5:31He was. I didn't even notice it was that big of a gap at the end of the race. Yeah, I think his first thing was better than his second. But yeah, Oscar was putting in a fight.
- 5:40Yeah. Yeah. So not to jump back to Red Bull real quick. Do you think, two things. First, Verstappen, do you think Verstappen is feeling any sort of,
- 5:50I don't even want to call it pressure because he's world class and the best driver on the grid right now. But unless you talk to Cole. I would call it pressure.
- 5:59Yeah, you think he's feeling at least a little bit of pressure right now. Like somebody's starting to challenge him.
- 6:05He hasn't had an actual true challenger. I mean, even Chekhov hasn't been a challenger in two full years.
- 6:10The end of the year last year when Sians got his win, like it was the championship was decided. Verstappen had nothing more to race for. Like he already had like the most wins in the season, the most whatever.
- 6:20He had all the records he could fight for. And I mean, I wouldn't say that he took that race off by any means. I mean, the strategy won that race for Sians last year.
- 6:28But it's just he hasn't had this sort of challenge since he was fighting Lewis for the championship. And that was what? 21?
- 6:34That sounds right. Yes. Yes. When the whole world stopped. Yeah, it was 21. 100% was 21.
- 6:42I mean, obviously there are some other cars we'll get into in a little bit that didn't make the big jump. But I mean, yeah, I think I agree with Tyler.
- 6:49He 100% is feeling the pressure right now. And it's a different ballgame when you're racing against a car that can keep up. Like how is he going to compete with Lando?
- 6:57You know, I mean, if Lando can keep performing how he's doing and to be honest, Oscar's performing a lot better than probably a lot of people thought he would. Oh, yeah.
- 7:04He's just had bad luck. It was I wouldn't even call it bad luck. Like it was his impeding in qualifying.
- 7:11When he impeded Magnus, him cost him with podium this race. He had that three. He qualified ahead of Lando.
- 7:16He qualified P2 and had the three plays grid penalty. And then it's hard to it's hard to catch two Red Bulls and your teammate.
- 7:23So I don't know if I didn't hear this or not, but I didn't hear any Red Bull communication around at the end of the race.
- 7:29Like you got to go, you got to go. He's catching up or anything like that. Oh, it was. Yeah. I must admit.
- 7:34I thought they just kind of let him do his thing. I know they came in and said like Lando is is doing this or whatever.
- 7:39And then like Max or Max had his little snarky response and GP was like, it's just information.
- 7:44And then Max's response and then because Max was like something with the tires and then Max responds back was like it's like this.
- 7:49He like mimicked GP and he's saying, God, he's just such a snarky little. But you're dialed in though.
- 7:55Like if like he should know that Lando is charging. You got to know that.
- 8:00So maybe you know if you got to push a little bit more. But other than that, yeah. Shut the heck up.
- 8:05The gap that Lando was how quick he was closing because then it comes down to like strategy to how are we going to save the battery.
- 8:11Battery levels matter. And they had that communication at the end. That was the thing at the end.
- 8:15I thought it was bigger. Right. When they started mentioning it, I was like, oh snap. They doubled the battery.
- 8:20The McLaren had 60 and the Red Bull had 30. And it is.
- 8:25I know I hate that because I think there should be more communication around that.
- 8:29That's something I think I want to see more communication around that when Max just kind of dismisses it.
- 8:33It's not as fun to kind of see. Like it also shows like if that's not a perfect sign of pressure.
- 8:39That's a perfect sign of showing there's pressure. At the end of the day too, Lando is one of the most light guys on the grid. Right. Always smiling.
- 8:45He had snarky responses back to his engineer this race. Yeah he did. It was like max level smile.
- 8:50I mean it was in Lando's tone so it's not just natural snarky.
- 8:54But it was still Lando was just like basically leave me the hell alone.
- 8:58Because they're dialed in dude. Lando knew exactly like again tell him how close he's getting maybe.
- 9:03But like they were dialed in. But like I guess that goes back to the point was Max feeling pressure.
- 9:08Does he feel pressure now? Absolutely because I mean I think it's without a question Lando had pressure and felt pressure in that race to catch up, perform and not mess up.
- 9:17Because all it takes is one slip up and all of a sudden he's not in second. You know something to happen.
- 9:21Or finishing the race at all. Yeah exactly. Like me on F1. But one little blop.
- 9:28And actually those last few laps what do they call it in F1 when not overseer or anything but like when the wheel jerks back real quick.
- 9:36Traction control. No they have a term for it and I can't. ABS? No no no. It's like a weird term for it.
- 9:43But anyway like it kept happening to Lando because he was just pushing that hard in and out of every corner breaking late.
- 9:49Like the dude was pushing. He was pushing hard. But I mean if you saw the cockpit view or the TV pod view or whatever.
- 9:55That's such a cool camera. I love it. I love it. But like if you go back and look those last couple laps his hands are snapping hard.
- 10:02It's not overseer or understeer. No it is. But they got a term for it and whatever. No it is. It's exactly that.
- 10:08They're just saying understeer and that's when you have that correction. No no. They definitely got a term for it that everybody else uses.
- 10:14But back to your point about like the pressure and the speed and stuff like that. When you have like a second speed. Right?
- 10:20Like the kicker is the first lap when he started really gaining he gained like over a second to Verstappen.
- 10:26So obviously Verstappen is upset and he should be because he's just like I want to lock in here.
- 10:30But if he doesn't get the information you saw the first couple laps was a huge jump up. And then all of a sudden it was a gradual jump to catch him.
- 10:38And then Verstappen even put in a couple lap times quicker than Lando. Like you know three four laps left to go.
- 10:45And then Lando started closing again. But he didn't let him get that second until he depleted his battery.
- 10:50But you're right. 100%. If you don't know how you're supposed to know if you should be really trying to send this thing.
- 10:56And just real quick to wrap up Red Bull. Do you think Checo starting on hards was a big reason why he didn't finish higher?
- 11:03Because when he switched to mediums he came out at like 11th place or something like that with like 30 lap.
- 11:11No not even like 25 laps left. And he was able to climb back into points. He's not passing top class cars.
- 11:18But he's passing people with hards on that are used when he has fresh mediums.
- 11:21True. Right. Because it was like everybody's strategy was just switched with Checo.
- 11:27Because he just went longer with the hards. And then as those hards wore down he put on fresh mediums as the hards were wearing down for the others.
- 11:33Should they have gone quicker? Like do you think he could have finished in front of the Mercs if he would have you know not ran the hards as long?
- 11:40Or if that wasn't their strategy? You don't think it would have made a difference?
- 11:43No. Because that's kind of what he's blaming his off race on.
- 11:47I would say maybe if the tire deck wasn't so bad for Max who had the other strategy.
- 11:51Sure. And I think that might have had a play in it.
- 11:54You think either way though it was just a rough race for Red Bull. Yeah they won but it wasn't great.
- 11:59No I mean a 1.8. Or yeah 1.8 is not a good finish for Red Bull.
- 12:04And even the 1.8 like we've been just talking and now we're going to go in and talk about Lando and Oscar.
- 12:08Obviously like even that 1 is kind of suspect heading into a weekend that you need a really good qualifying to finish well.
- 12:18And me and Tyler were talking about this I think Monday. So yesterday.
- 12:22Like the point gap right now between Red Bull and Ferrari and Red Bull and McLaren and the Constructors is not that crazy.
- 12:33Well and let's we'll talk about that next show I think let's do another rundown of Constructors and Driver Champion.
- 12:39But you're making a really good point dude. Like I mean it's.
- 12:42It's a lot closer than you think at this point. 100%.
- 12:45Than you would think with how dominant Max been this year. It's a lot closer than you'd think.
- 12:48Yeah from what we've been seeing the past few years where we're just so used to just running away with it.
- 12:52Just a quick note on that. Yeah.
- 12:54Just because I'm looking at it what surprises me is it's closer between Red Bull and Ferrari than Ferrari and McLaren.
- 12:59What? Nuh uh. It's close. Really.
- 13:04It is. So it's a 50. It's a 56 point gap between Red Bull and Ferrari.
- 13:09It is a 70 or 68.
- 13:1466 point gap between McLaren and.
- 13:17I'm no Ferrari fan.
- 13:19But I would love to see a Ferrari win this week. Might as well just give it to Charles. Let him win in his home.
- 13:24Finally. Oh that would be so sweet.
- 13:26Oh and Monaco? Yeah. And his little pinto he drives around over there.
- 13:30Yeah.
- 13:33But let's quick stay on Imola. Not Imola.
- 13:37McLaren. I mean obviously we've already touched on them. We don't need to spend too much more time on them.
- 13:42But I'd say exactly what we were looking forward to this weekend.
- 13:47As far as McLaren goes. What do you McLaren fans think?
- 13:50Oh yeah. You American hypocrites.
- 13:52They are. I mean happily. They are keeping their pace up. They're still going really strong.
- 13:58Lando able to. I mean literally almost fight Max at the end.
- 14:03It was another race where Max isn't gaining like up until the end of the race. People were actually gaining up on him.
- 14:10Sure. I mean a couple more laps. Do you honestly feel he would have caught him?
- 14:14Or would have Max still been able. And that's. Dude with the tire wear too. That's so relative right?
- 14:19I'm just saying like if there's four more laps. Two more laps Lando wins that race.
- 14:24Because he gets into DRS and is now. He got into it with seven seconds of the finish. I don't know.
- 14:28I think. The Red Bull tires were only getting worse and the way McLaren had handled their tires dude.
- 14:33I think two more seconds. Oh sorry. Two more laps knowing how close it is to the end of the race.
- 14:38We didn't get to see Verstappen really defend against Norris. Norris had only just got up to him.
- 14:43I mean that close to the end of the race. Verstappen is getting wide.
- 14:47He's a good defender though. I mean but we haven't really seen true defense from him since 2021 or whatever.
- 14:53And that track though. It's not. There's one spot to pass on that track.
- 14:56And it's the DRS zone coming out of the first turn there. And it's like at the end of the day.
- 15:01There's no way to defend. You can make the move to dip down. But when a driver's on DRS.
- 15:05But Max would have been crazy aggressive with it. With the condition of his tires. Oh yeah.
- 15:12That's what I'm thinking. I think so. They would have defended right away. They both ended up wrecking.
- 15:17I'm not trying to say that Max is a wrecker. You just can't really defend DRS nowadays.
- 15:21You can't defend DRS? Oh. At the end of the day it's like. I like DRS.
- 15:25You only get one move. You can only sway one way to go back.
- 15:29So you make that one move you get that outside or inside. Depends on who's later on the brakes.
- 15:33Got to hit him with the juke move. Watch your NFL card.
- 15:36I think it all came down to him just having DRS. If Lando hits DRS on him on a full straightaway right there.
- 15:41If he's within.7 going into the DRS. Probably closer actually.
- 15:45Because I don't think even with DRS. I think you get close to him near the end of that straight.
- 15:49I don't know if you pass him. And it would need to be on the second to last lap.
- 15:55Because the DRS zone. Like the start of the DRS zone is so close to the finish that you're not going to get him the last.
- 16:00Oh for sure. It would have been a lot of strategy talks. We talked about that 60% to 30% battery.
- 16:06So Lando had the power to do it. I just man I want to see them like really head to head fight a little bit more.
- 16:14We saw Lando run off. Max maybe with damage. I don't want to take Lando's win away from him.
- 16:20Obviously he earned it. But yeah I want to see a head to head between him and Max and really see who takes it.
- 16:27It sucks the next race is what it is. Obviously it's a fun race. We'll get into that in a bit.
- 16:31But it sucks that is what it is because reality is there's not really going to be a fight on that race like this.
- 16:35No but the outlook of the season is looking way more interesting than it did when we were first starting the show this year.
- 16:43You get to these tracks that have 2, 3 or 3 DRS zones. It's going to be a wild battle then. It's going to be wild.
- 16:51It's almost to the point now where so many times last year if Max was I mean you could argue in the top 15 he's winning that race.
- 17:01And this year if he's in the top 5 if he's not at first and he's down like the 5th it's going to be tough.
- 17:08It's not going to be so easy for him to just come in and blow it away.
- 17:11He won't blow it away but it'll be some battling for sure. That's the type of battle I'd like to see.
- 17:17Somebody else in the lead and Max trying to battle back. That would be the true we already know he's great.
- 17:23That would be like the true, true test. This dude is still battling cars that are almost getting to that equal point as the Red Bull and Max is using his skill to continue to beat them.
- 17:34That would say something. Again nothing that needs to be said right now because he's still the best on the grid.
- 17:40Unless you're Cole. Again. So let's just talk about Ferrari real quick.
- 17:46Charles getting the podium. Allegedly first podium since 06 in Imola and take a wild guess who that would have been.
- 17:56I'm pretty sure I know it so I'll let you guys go.
- 17:58Bobby Schmurda.
- 17:59Oh it's Bobby Schmurda.
- 18:01Wait are you sure it's 06? It's Schumacher obviously.
- 18:03At Imola specifically.
- 18:05Actually I think it was called San Marino in 06. Anyway.
- 18:10We were just talking with this guy off right before we started filming.
- 18:13Bobby Schmurda?
- 18:17Bobby Schmurda we were just talking about him.
- 18:19But yeah Schumacher. Yep.
- 18:23And then I mean are we that surprised with how Ferrari performed this weekend?
- 18:33I mean considering all the practices and heading in and quality are we that surprised at their final spots?
- 18:39I mean the car is definitely faster but I don't think it was as big of a jump as we thought.
- 18:46It wasn't 4 tenths.
- 18:47No it wasn't 4 tenths.
- 18:48I mean Carlos came out and said it was over hyped.
- 18:50Yeah. He was saying that everything was over hyped.
- 18:53I've been saying all week that the upgrades aren't as big as what they are I just can't tell you the times.
- 18:58He also called Imola a McLaren circuit but I don't believe that in a minute.
- 19:03Wait he said that?
- 19:04Carlos Sainz quoted on Sky Sports F1 he was quoted saying that it was a McLaren circuit.
- 19:10That's insane because that track it was literally designed, built and made to test the Ferrari.
- 19:16It's 10 miles away from like it's named after one of the freaking...
- 19:202006 Ferrari maybe I guess.
- 19:23You can look it up but like definitely reason why I put it down and I even sourced Sky Sports after that.
- 19:30So I mean he said that and I think it was pre-race though.
- 19:35I don't know if that was post.
- 19:36It might have been pre-race.
- 19:37Yeah when you're racing at a McLaren circuit blah blah blah type deal.
- 19:40You cannot say that as a Ferrari driver.
- 19:42He's not a Ferrari driver anymore.
- 19:43Oh that's true.
- 19:44He's not a Ferrari driver anymore.
- 19:45He can say whatever he wants.
- 19:46That's true.
- 19:47He's going out like Vettel went out.
- 19:49Yeah I was going to say he's Kimi and Vettel in their last years.
- 19:51Now Kimi just didn't say anything.
- 19:53Vettel was a little salty.
- 19:54Just to stay on Carlos at some point in the race I think it was actually earlier than I thought but Carlos did come on the comms and was saying like these McLaren cars are fast.
- 20:04Yeah.
- 20:05He used to talk about Oscar.
- 20:08Yeah he was talking about Oscar specifically.
- 20:10Yeah.
- 20:11It's tough to see how well he started off the year to where he's performing and like competing at this stage of the year.
- 20:20Who are you talking about Carlos?
- 20:21Carlos.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:23It's surprising.
- 20:24Every week instead of LeClaire I've been putting Carlos because I'm like he's going to have a comeback.
- 20:28He's going to have a comeback.
- 20:29I keep putting him on my podium.
- 20:30He's going to have his comeback week and it never happens.
- 20:32Do you think the strategies are extremely different between LeClaire and Carlos or not so much?
- 20:37I don't know.
- 20:38I'm not a McLaren fan.
- 20:39Ferrari.
- 20:40I'm sorry a Ferrari fan so I'm not going super in depth on it but do you think they're running different strategies?
- 20:45Ferrari seems to kind of based on the race at least watching it they kind of base it on who's the better driver that race.
- 20:50I mean every time it's like.
- 20:51Which is probably how you should do it.
- 20:53We're going to favor it this way.
- 20:54This guy's going to pit first.
- 20:55This guy's going to.
- 20:56They favor it based on the better driver so I don't think it's based on that.
- 20:59I think LeClaire's just been racing better recently.
- 21:02Sure.
- 21:03I mean fair enough.
- 21:07Does Carlos.
- 21:08Can Carlos beat out LeClaire this weekend you think in Monaco?
- 21:13Let's talk about that when we get to Monaco.
- 21:14I don't think so.
- 21:15We can.
- 21:16Yeah 100% good call.
- 21:17I have some stuff to say.
- 21:18That's what we should be.
- 21:19Okay.
- 21:20Let's wait then.
- 21:21He's got some stuff to say.
- 21:22Merck finishing 6 and 7.
- 21:24Did I say 8 and 9 or 7 and 8?
- 21:28For what?
- 21:29Yeah.
- 21:30In last.
- 21:31I think I said 7 and 8 as well earlier.
- 21:32Okay.
- 21:33So no they did finish 6 and 7.
- 21:35Obviously in front of Checo which might have been because of strategy who knows.
- 21:40I put one of them outside of the 10th.
- 21:42That was wrong.
- 21:43My bad.
- 21:44And George with the fastest lap.
- 21:45Yeah.
- 21:46They definitely like I mean they meant to do that.
- 21:48They put him into the pits just to get that fast lap.
- 21:50No for sure.
- 21:51Because he had the time to do it.
- 21:52How many points did you get again for fast lap?
- 21:53I know I've asked that before.
- 21:54It is one point.
- 21:55So it's interesting.
- 21:56We were talking about this.
- 21:57The commentators were talking about this.
- 21:58He was ahead of Hamilton.
- 21:59Yes.
- 22:00And he finished behind Hamilton because he went to get that fastest.
- 22:03What is the point difference between 6 and 7?
- 22:05It's not a single point is it?
- 22:06Two points?
- 22:07So we lost out on a point.
- 22:09Grand scheme of things he's still ahead of Hamilton.
- 22:11Probably not the biggest deal but I know he was talking about it on the radio for at
- 22:15least a little bit.
- 22:16100% he was.
- 22:17I thought did he straight up ask if Lewis would give him a spot back and they pretty
- 22:22much said no.
- 22:23I could have sworn I saw that but I could completely be wrong in making that issue.
- 22:27I was watching the race with someone I can't remember.
- 22:30I know it was brought up.
- 22:31I can't remember if it was brought up by the person I was watching with or the commentators
- 22:33or the commentators.
- 22:34No it was definitely something on the TV.
- 22:37Somebody brought that up and I don't know if it was comms or the commentators but I
- 22:40could have sworn that George did ask.
- 22:44If I get back out or if I box will Hamilton give me my spot back and I'm pretty sure they
- 22:50said no and then they said box box for George to get that fastest lap.
- 22:57That is interesting.
- 22:58So is that just like a little bit of if it's true right if it's true is that just a loyalty
- 23:03thing to Lewis?
- 23:04You know for Mercedes?
- 23:05No it's 6 place.
- 23:06Again it's not like it matters that much though.
- 23:09But I think if Russell was a faster driver that day so they're like let's get the tires
- 23:13on you to get that extra point for the team not just for your.
- 23:15Yeah but it's all part of the thing.
- 23:16I think it's part of the team.
- 23:17At the end of the day they get the team one more point.
- 23:20I would agree with y'all but Hamilton could have done the exact same thing.
- 23:23He wasn't faster than Russell.
- 23:26But unlike Soss he could have done it I think.
- 23:28Yeah Soss is going to get to the.
- 23:31I agree I definitely agree with you he's not faster than Russell on this track but he had
- 23:35the time I mean what Paris was almost a minute to oh wait is that 2L?
- 23:41Yeah that's 2L.
- 23:43Hamilton had the time though I think.
- 23:46Did he have the time?
- 23:47Maybe I'm wrong.
- 23:48I thought he had the time to make it.
- 23:49Or maybe if he did it he would have to fight Perez but I guess I assumed he might be able
- 23:53to get it.
- 23:54Well I guess that's a thought too.
- 23:55I might just be talking.
- 23:58Obviously we'll jump into this here soon.
- 23:59That's all we're doing buddy.
- 24:00We'll jump into this here soon but I mean Aston Martin's there that's kind of who they're
- 24:03fighting with right now is Aston Martin.
- 24:05So every point kind of matters when you're fighting at the 6th to 10th spot.
- 24:09Every point really matters.
- 24:10So I think if you're fighting for the constructors you don't want to go out in 5th.
- 24:14You take that one for the team.
- 24:16I mean you're not going to podium Russell.
- 24:19Go take one for the team get a point and pull at what it is.
- 24:21And after the race he did say he doesn't feel.
- 24:24I can't remember what he actually said.
- 24:26I literally just read it but he didn't feel like any sort of type of way about it or whatever.
- 24:30He's just going to move on from it.
- 24:32But like in the moment for sure I think he was a little bit.
- 24:35He was just curious what they would do I think.
- 24:37I think he was I don't know if he was just testing them and it's just all a game or whatever
- 24:40but he said he wasn't.
- 24:43It's definitely a question to be asked if you're putting that position.
- 24:45I think so.
- 24:46Why not?
- 24:47Yeah yeah why not?
- 24:48Because if Lewis would have given him the spot back the team still gets the same amount
- 24:53of points Russell just gets one more.
- 24:55Right yeah.
- 24:56The team gets one more right?
- 24:58No because they're going to finish the same.
- 24:59They're still going to finish the same points anyway.
- 25:00Oh you're right.
- 25:01Yeah yeah.
- 25:02I'm sorry it's been a long day.
- 25:03I think we're all on that boat but.
- 25:04Actually I think Russell would have got two more points yeah.
- 25:06Because he would have finished two spots he would have finished he would have got the
- 25:09two points and then the fastest laps.
- 25:10No because like you said they finished in the same position so it's just.
- 25:13No no but Russell would have got two more.
- 25:15Three.
- 25:16No because he got the fastest lap point anyway.
- 25:18Oh I see what you're saying.
- 25:19Because he would have finished in the spot ahead and would have given him two more points.
- 25:21The team would have got the same amount of points but Russell would have gotten two more
- 25:23points.
- 25:24I know Russell I was talking about the yeah you're right.
- 25:26I know we have a lot of overseas listeners this is uh this is American Public Schools
- 25:30here.
- 25:31I was just about to say this is only twos and threes and I'm like this is too much for
- 25:36me right now I'm out.
- 25:39Let's talk about that Aston real quick.
- 25:42Alonso pretty much starting from the pits if I'm not mistaken.
- 25:44He has to change his songs.
- 25:45And then he just had troubles all day.
- 25:47He had trouble all weekend.
- 25:48And then they pulled him out of the race with like five left or ten left or something.
- 25:52I could have sworn they just took him off the track and retired the car.
- 25:55I could be wrong but.
- 25:56Yeah no you're right.
- 25:57Oh wait no that was Albon.
- 25:58I mean.
- 25:59Oh that was Albon.
- 26:00Yeah you're right who also had issues.
- 26:02But Alonso like he did not do well in the race unfortunately.
- 26:05He did not catch up.
- 26:06He was just one lap down though so it wasn't a DNF.
- 26:08Is it just is it just car issues right now because they haven't been as consistent lately
- 26:13or at least Alonso for sure hasn't been as consistent lately.
- 26:16And you know we saw Stroll in points.
- 26:19Yeah even though a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
- 26:22I mean pretty much.
- 26:23Pretty much.
- 26:24To be honest though Stroll had a good race.
- 26:26He was actually overtaking.
- 26:27He was up there pretty much a majority of the race I would say in points.
- 26:33I don't know.
- 26:34I think I'm just like so blinded by the hate on Stroll that it just doesn't matter.
- 26:40But I did see him get a point a couple points though.
- 26:43You want to play a fun game.
- 26:45What is that?
- 26:46How many more times is he in points the rest of the year.
- 26:48Over unders two.
- 26:51Over unders two.
- 26:52Yeah I would say over as well.
- 26:54Oh yeah over.
- 26:55I think he's going to get points a few more times.
- 26:56A lot of season left.
- 26:57I don't think we're going to see a lot of a lot more races where he outscores Alonso
- 27:01but I think he could fit in ninth and fifth.
- 27:04He will not be outscoring Alonso in most races.
- 27:06I'll take the odds and go the under if you guys are all going the over for two.
- 27:09Under on.
- 27:10I'd say the more accurate number would be three and a half.
- 27:12Under on the two.
- 27:13That'd be a debate to be had.
- 27:15The half is where he crashes his car and half of the car gets over the finish line.
- 27:19Well that's either three or four.
- 27:21Okay.
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:23Well I mean there's not really much else to say about them.
- 27:26I mean we can maybe mention them when we get to Monaco.
- 27:30Mention the same team see what we're thinking but I don't know what they got.
- 27:33They got to have some upgrades coming you would you would hope.
- 27:36Hopefully.
- 27:37I know that's what I'm saying.
- 27:38Everybody else is upgrading driving away from them now.
- 27:40You got the right guy in the car.
- 27:41Obviously had a bad week.
- 27:42We got the right guy in the car to put upgrades and let him win.
- 27:45You do.
- 27:46You do.
- 27:47Especially in Monaco.
- 27:48But it was weird to see both Mercedes finishing.
- 27:50Obviously Alonso had a bad race but both Mercedes finishing in front of Astin's this week.
- 27:55So real quick Vcarb.
- 27:59Yuki right before we came on we were just talking consistency with Yuki.
- 28:03It's not even about the amount but the dude is obviously showing that he's consistent
- 28:08enough to be in points almost every week right now.
- 28:12Can't say that about Danny Rick but.
- 28:16Perez keep racing like that.
- 28:18He's got to.
- 28:19No I'm saying Perez keep racing like that.
- 28:20You got Yuki who's a young gun coming up.
- 28:23They haven't filled that spot yet.
- 28:25No way.
- 28:26No way.
- 28:27Not happening.
- 28:28But I think he absolutely will be in Vcarb again and they're going to keep him around
- 28:32at this point for sure.
- 28:33I don't think he has a shot at that Red Bull seat but that'd be wild.
- 28:37I think Tchaikov has that spot next year.
- 28:40They signed Yuki to another deal.
- 28:41Let him have one more year.
- 28:42Tchaikov doesn't come back to Red Bull in 2025.
- 28:44And if Yuki is consistent again why not?
- 28:46Especially if they're going to keep putting effort into that Vcarb.
- 28:50I don't mind that idea.
- 28:51And they did the simulator and I think they had the fourth or fifth fastest car this weekend.
- 28:55Qualifying showed that.
- 28:57I mean qualifying they were both top 10.
- 28:59I was really hopeful Danny Rick would get some points this week.
- 29:03I'm always going to like him.
- 29:04I'm kind of giving up on Danny Rick.
- 29:06I can't lie.
- 29:07I've always liked him.
- 29:08I'd like to see him in a seat next year but I just, I don't know if that's going to happen.
- 29:13I don't think it'll be Vcarb.
- 29:14You know what's bumming though?
- 29:16I feel like we're not seeing as much communication.
- 29:20Whatever you call it on the side there.
- 29:21The communication basically with Yuki.
- 29:24He's always fun to see communication.
- 29:25He's always fired up.
- 29:26He's always fired up.
- 29:27He's a good clickbait.
- 29:28He's a good soundbite too.
- 29:29Give us what we want.
- 29:31Give us some more Yuki.
- 29:33It's all just asterisks on the...
- 29:36Yeah, 100%.
- 29:39Real quick before we wrap, kind of wrap the recap on Imola Williams.
- 29:46Albond dude, that is a string of bad luck I would say.
- 29:50I think the dude actually continues to show that he still has skill.
- 29:54With just the state of Williams right now in general, I think you put this down Joe,
- 30:00that Williams is in shambles a little bit.
- 30:03You have one driver that can't drive and the other driver is getting screwed by his team.
- 30:06It sucks.
- 30:07It's a bad position to be in.
- 30:09They have, I mean they're struggling on and off track and that's not good.
- 30:14That's not how you get points and they haven't.
- 30:17Would you rather be in a Haas right now?
- 30:19No, 100%.
- 30:20Okay, I thought you were about to say no.
- 30:22I had to register what you were saying.
- 30:24I know, usually we're programmed to just assume absolutely not.
- 30:28No, we don't want to be in a Haas.
- 30:29But now that narrative is changing.
- 30:32Haas has obviously fixed their off track issues.
- 30:35If you asked me three or four years ago, we saw they literally couldn't put wheels on
- 30:41a car for an entire race versus now.
- 30:44They haven't had really any pit issues I don't think.
- 30:47It's all been on track for the most part.
- 30:49Do you think it's a hurt to the Williams?
- 30:51Obviously it started last year, but do you think it's a hurt to Williams for their president
- 30:54to be the, is it the president?
- 30:56Yeah, the president to be the engineer and not just like, you know, like the Williams.
- 31:01James Valls, he's the principal and the chief engineer.
- 31:05Is he really?
- 31:06I don't think he's the chief engineer.
- 31:07No, I was saying president, he's the principal.
- 31:09He's the principal, he's an engineer.
- 31:10He's the only one that's really an engineer.
- 31:12I feel like that position is more dedicated to somebody who can lead and can build a team.
- 31:17But he proved himself at Mercedes.
- 31:19I'll also say Toto's right hand manned at Mercedes.
- 31:22So he was like, he wasn't the engineer in realm, but he was like, he developed out of
- 31:26that into that leadership role to be kind of Toto's right hand man.
- 31:29I just feel like it's a different ball game right now.
- 31:31Like with this, especially with this type of team you're going into.
- 31:34And I think because he was Toto's right hand man, that's why he gets this spot.
- 31:38I just don't know if it's the right spot for him.
- 31:41That's fair.
- 31:42Why not follow the legacy of like a newie or something like that?
- 31:44Why try to be a wolf?
- 31:45Why try to be a Toto?
- 31:46You're never going to be a Toto.
- 31:47Maybe you want that right there.
- 31:49Money dude.
- 31:50And why?
- 31:51You don't want that challenge.
- 31:54You're at the top of your game as an engineer, not newie, right?
- 31:57But you're at the top of your personal game and you don't want that next challenge that
- 32:01maybe is team principal and running the show?
- 32:04So as far as the drive to survive and the episodes and all that, I kind of loved the
- 32:10president or the principal.
- 32:12Team principal.
- 32:14We know what you're saying.
- 32:15But the principal, I kind of loved him through that and just like everything he was talking
- 32:18about and everything.
- 32:19I thought he was pretty awesome guy and I thought he like honestly I was bought in.
- 32:24I was like, I'm going to hammer the overall year on Williams because of like just how
- 32:27he talked and his demeanor and everything.
- 32:30But I just not paying off as much as it should this year, especially when you have somebody
- 32:32like Albon in the car.
- 32:33I feel like, like I feel like they should be more designed and just everything around
- 32:38the car should be better because of the mindset that he thinks.
- 32:43The one thing with Williams though that kills them is they manufacture their own parts.
- 32:48So if they need a new part, they have to and they don't have the money.
- 32:51So if they need a new part, they have to go and build it.
- 32:53You know what they're all, when they were also engine they're running?
- 32:56Mercedes engine.
- 32:57Right.
- 32:58Yeah, but so is Aston.
- 33:01Aston.
- 33:02Yeah, but let's, there's still like a huge gap.
- 33:05I mean, it's more than just the engine, you know, but it's still like you have, you can
- 33:10make an argument the worst power unit on the market right now.
- 33:13So you're already kind of behind the Honda, the Ferrari and I guess Alpine still is using
- 33:20it.
- 33:21So what's that say for McLaren then?
- 33:22They're also Mercedes.
- 33:23McLaren's Mercedes?
- 33:24They are indeed.
- 33:25That's what I was thinking.
- 33:26McLaren's Mercedes.
- 33:27I thought they were, I thought they were a Ferrari engine.
- 33:28Nope.
- 33:29Do you think that this, do you think this principal has a short shelf life though?
- 33:33Being at Williams?
- 33:34I don't think so.
- 33:35He's got a little bit of a disadvantage.
- 33:36How long has he been principal?
- 33:37It was his second year.
- 33:38Last year was his first year.
- 33:39Yeah.
- 33:40Nah, you got to give him a little bit more time than that I would think.
- 33:43I mean, if it's the same stuff next year, then new regs.
- 33:47It's like every, every, maybe they're building for that car.
- 33:49Maybe they're building for the new regulations and everything with this guy behind the helm
- 33:52being the engineer background.
- 33:54But at the same time, it's like, I mean, every time you watch Drive to Survivor, anything
- 33:58about Williams, it's we want to get back to that car that was winning.
- 34:00We don't want to get back to this car.
- 34:01Well, they have an amazing history, right?
- 34:03They got a really long history and they, of course they want to get back to that.
- 34:08They're like the Steelers.
- 34:09Let's throw them back.
- 34:10I mean, we're happy.
- 34:11Well, we also got to look at it this way.
- 34:13The last time that Ferrari won a WDC wasn't too far ahead of Williams.
- 34:19But they're still winning races at least and competing for the top podiums, right?
- 34:23Yeah.
- 34:24Yeah.
- 34:25With that, real quick to rap Williams, what is the best move for Albont?
- 34:32Is it worse?
- 34:33Well, it's already been decided.
- 34:34Oh, that's right.
- 34:35It's our first news.
- 34:36That's right.
- 34:37That's right.
- 34:38With that, let's head into news, Kev.
- 35:38All right.
- 36:06So back at it with the news, obviously I started going into other stuff.
- 36:11That's how the mind goes.
- 36:12You know what I mean?
- 36:15But with that, for some reason I forgot that Albont had already signed a multi-year contract
- 36:20with Williams.
- 36:21Is it three?
- 36:22I thought I saw that it was three.
- 36:23Is that true or not?
- 36:24They just said multi.
- 36:25I don't think they said.
- 36:26Could have sworn I said it.
- 36:27I saw it three though.
- 36:28It's not going to carry him into 2026 at least.
- 36:29That's the part that's interesting to me.
- 36:31And maybe that's maybe like what Cole was saying.
- 36:34Maybe that's kind of what they're waiting on and maybe focusing more on the new regs.
- 36:38But I just think I think I can't get behind that.
- 36:40I don't either because I think it's I think that's bad business, dude.
- 36:43I don't even can at the moment because they don't know what the regs are.
- 36:46True.
- 36:47Well, they have a good idea.
- 36:49They've released a lot of them because you have to you have to allow the teams to build
- 36:51their engines.
- 36:52You got to get more.
- 36:53Oh, sure.
- 36:54That's fair.
- 36:55OK.
- 36:56But it's like but you're limited in terms of like like sim hours.
- 36:58Obviously wind tunnel comes into play too.
- 37:00But it's you just you in the position when you're consistently seventh and the highest
- 37:06from eighth through tenth, like you can't put your money in the next year's car because
- 37:10you have to get that next step to get money for next year's.
- 37:14And how did like that?
- 37:15And how does and how does that work?
- 37:17Explain to some of the newbies or whatever about finishing really quick and constructors
- 37:21and the money you get and blah, blah, blah.
- 37:25So there's a huge difference between where you place in the overall like team constructor
- 37:28championship.
- 37:29I think they change on a year to year basis based off of revenue profits, all that fun
- 37:33stuff.
- 37:35But so like the difference between finishing seventh and tenth, which is only three, four
- 37:39spots in the actual thing, is millions upon millions upon millions of dollars that you're
- 37:43bringing in from the actual F1.
- 37:46So it's like you are super strapped in terms of the money you can have when you're a team
- 37:49like a Williams and Alpine Haas where you don't have those powerhouse of like the Red
- 37:55Bull, the Mercedes, the Ferrari behind you.
- 37:56They just they have unlimited money.
- 37:59That's not the same for those lower teams, especially a team like Williams, who manufactures
- 38:02their own parts in their factory.
- 38:04So like they build everything there.
- 38:06They need as much money as they can to keep that production going.
- 38:08We saw that when Sergeant or Albon messed up his car and then Logan or Logan had to give
- 38:13up his car to Albon go in like they didn't have an extra chassis with them because they
- 38:17didn't have an extra chassis.
- 38:19And you know, like that doesn't happen on any other team.
- 38:22And you explain that perfectly because that's exactly why it matters.
- 38:26You got you got new F1 fans that came in during the Lewis domination or or the Max domination
- 38:31right now that are new to the sport that are just like so basically outside of the podium,
- 38:36it doesn't matter.
- 38:37No, no, no, no, no, it does matter 100 percent.
- 38:40So I already had a feeling that you would just explain it perfectly.
- 38:43So that's why I wanted you to just run with it.
- 38:45So I think that's perfect for anybody new to it, you know, that now knows why why it
- 38:51matters so much.
- 38:52This is like the only sport, if you will, where you can root for three different teams
- 39:00because you have people fighting at the top, there's people fighting at the mid and the
- 39:03people fighting at the bottom.
- 39:04And I remember I was talking to my brother about this and I was like, you know, what's
- 39:09so like, you know, we're kind of chatting about it, like, you know, what why is so interesting?
- 39:12Like and he was like, who do you watch?
- 39:13And I list off a couple of teams like like Haas down low, you know, I like it.
- 39:17I was just listening off teams.
- 39:19And I was like, because there's so many different categories that you're fighting for.
- 39:23It's all based around money and everything like this.
- 39:25And like this could be a really freaking big year for Haas.
- 39:27It could be huge.
- 39:28Yeah, seriously.
- 39:29It's just high since their first season in F1.
- 39:32It's just unfortunate for them that Yuki is doing what he's doing for Vygaard.
- 39:36Yeah, for sure.
- 39:37But like it's just it's like the coolest thing that out of the teams, the 10 teams, there's
- 39:42so much variety you can root for.
- 39:44Like you don't have it's like you don't have to have a favorite team.
- 39:47You can have a favorite driver, you like all these things, but like, well, it depends on
- 39:50who you ask.
- 39:51You go ask some of these diehards that, you know, at some of these tracks around the world,
- 39:56they're going to be more American.
- 39:58So obviously we like multiple teams and the Tifosi, the Papaya Army, the Dutch.
- 40:05But like if you like so like the best reference we always make is football.
- 40:08Banshee the boys, there's tons of football talk, right?
- 40:11So there's like there's a team that's trash.
- 40:13You're not rooting for your team to win the Super Bowl and then also rooting for that
- 40:16this team to get the number one overall pick.
- 40:18Right.
- 40:19Like if anything, you have like an AFC and an NFC team, but even that it's like, you
- 40:23don't want them to play each other in the Super Bowl.
- 40:25And that's so weird.
- 40:26Like nobody does that.
- 40:27You have one diehard team.
- 40:28That's every sport out here.
- 40:30So like it's kind of cool where you can kind of be like, OK, Haas will never beat Red Bull,
- 40:35but I can still root for Haas and not be a traitor to like my favorite team.
- 40:39Which is definitely not Red Bull for you.
- 40:41That could have been a meme.
- 40:46Darn it.
- 40:47But yeah, I mean, Alex Albon, I think it's probably a good move for him.
- 40:52Might as well see what happens.
- 40:53How old is he?
- 40:54He's got to be like 27, 28.
- 40:55He's the same age as George.
- 40:56Like Gaston, right?
- 40:57Like 26.
- 40:58Yeah, I think he's like, I think he's mid-deleted.
- 40:59Oh wait no, he might be 25 actually because he's just because of new ranks, right?
- 41:06He's 28.
- 41:07Only because of that.
- 41:08He's Max's age.
- 41:09That's right, because him, Charles and Max carted.
- 41:11Oh for sure.
- 41:12And the reason why I say that because of the new regs is just like, it's just a new playing
- 41:17field for everybody.
- 41:19So I'm just curious, like, is Williams going to figure it out by then?
- 41:22And maybe he likes being there enough that it's worth it to him.
- 41:27But then he signs the multi-year deal and then this weekend happens and it's like, it's
- 41:31just the same stuff.
- 41:32Yeah, I think that's got to be frustrating.
- 41:35But do you think he really wants to be at Williams and build Williams up like he has
- 41:39in two years?
- 41:40Or is it just that he doesn't or maybe he just hasn't gotten anyone talk to him?
- 41:45I think he's locking down a stepping stone 100% to get to a better team.
- 41:51But he's got to show it.
- 41:53I feel like the last two years, that's what he's been doing and it just hasn't paid off.
- 41:57And largely that's Williams' fault.
- 41:59I don't think that's his fault.
- 42:00I think he's a decent driver.
- 42:01Are you going to go parallel though?
- 42:02I think that's the biggest kicker.
- 42:03Like a lot of these teams that probably offered him, he's going parallel with a move.
- 42:08He's comfortable in a car.
- 42:09He can perform.
- 42:10He's shown he can perform in this car.
- 42:11He's comfortable in the car.
- 42:12Why leave when you can be in the same parallel car and compete with those other guys in the
- 42:16other cars instead of jumping ship and having to like basically relearn a car almost?
- 42:21I think that's an extremely good point.
- 42:22I think the biggest thing that's hurting him is there's not a spot on those big teams open
- 42:26that are you who you going to take?
- 42:28Sians or Albarn?
- 42:29You're taking neither of them.
- 42:32You're taking neither of them because there's no spots open.
- 42:36That's what it comes down to.
- 42:37It was a trick question.
- 42:38You got us.
- 42:39You got us.
- 42:40That's funny.
- 42:41Well I still think Carlos has a shot at that Red Bull seat.
- 42:48They didn't sign Checo yet.
- 42:50They can't afford him.
- 42:52I think Sians is going to go to...
- 42:54You think so?
- 42:55They can't afford him?
- 42:56Well I mean...
- 42:57Horner came out and said it.
- 42:58Or who is it?
- 42:59Was it Marco?
- 43:00Who came out?
- 43:01Marco.
- 43:02They can't match Audis offer.
- 43:03Yeah that's right.
- 43:05Sians is all but in that Audi seat next year.
- 43:08And the only thing that Mercedes is offering him is a one year deal.
- 43:13Because they're keeping that spot open for Max and Kimi.
- 43:15Right.
- 43:16Max and Kimi.
- 43:17Oh my god.
- 43:18We're going to lock that one up and keep that ready to go for another time with Max to Merck.
- 43:25But yeah in terms of the Albon aspect of it, what better opportunities does he have?
- 43:33At the end of the day he doesn't.
- 43:35You have to keep your spot on the grid.
- 43:36Like Cole is saying, it'd be a parallel move.
- 43:38Yeah you have to keep your spot on the grid.
- 43:39If you got a team that's offering you a multi year deal, worth millions upon millions upon
- 43:44millions of dollars, you're securing your financial.
- 43:46To stay in F1.
- 43:47And you're still doing what you love.
- 43:49What you think they'd love at this point.
- 43:51I don't know if Max does.
- 43:52But I think to Max it's just a job that he excels at.
- 43:59And staying with Williams, that second seat is obviously open right now because Sargeant
- 44:03is not coming back.
- 44:04So chances.
- 44:05I don't know.
- 44:06So I got some news on this.
- 44:08I heard and I sent some of these to Tyler.
- 44:10I have these wild news things that I found on F1.
- 44:13And a lot of these have came true.
- 44:15On the dark web.
- 44:16F1 dark web.
- 44:17Yeah, based on the previous predictions I put out, a lot of these have came true.
- 44:20Right?
- 44:21True.
- 44:22And there is news that recently they have put in a bid to get rid of Sargeant and they
- 44:27have put in the bid or whatever to get Kimi his super license.
- 44:34Whoa.
- 44:35But it's going to take a couple weeks.
- 44:38So it wouldn't be until three or four weeks where he'd be able to get a super license.
- 44:42But apparently.
- 44:43Kimi Antonelli.
- 44:44Antonelli.
- 44:45Like officially.
- 44:46Let's not confuse this with Kimi Reichen.
- 44:47Oh yeah, Kimi Antonelli.
- 44:48Like officially has put in that bid request, whatever it may be.
- 44:52For Kimi Antonelli to take over for Sargeant this year.
- 44:54This season.
- 44:55This season.
- 44:56It's probably not going to get granted because he's 17.
- 44:58That's the whole, that's the huge thing right now.
- 45:01But didn't we talk about that, that where it did get granted for Max or did not?
- 45:04It was a different.
- 45:05Oh they changed it after him.
- 45:06Oh okay.
- 45:07That's interesting.
- 45:08Money changes everybody's minds and Sargeant, like realistically.
- 45:11He's the next best thing right?
- 45:13Who's paying him?
- 45:14It ain't Williams.
- 45:17Williams isn't forking over that money.
- 45:18I think we know who it is.
- 45:19Yeah.
- 45:20It's Mercedes.
- 45:21It's Mercedes.
- 45:22Yeah.
- 45:23It's Mercedes.
- 45:24It's Mercedes.
- 45:25He's going to get it to them to get them going earlier in the wheels.
- 45:26See what you got.
- 45:27Get them in an F1 car.
- 45:28So look at it from.
- 45:29Yeah, a crappy F1 car.
- 45:30A broad F1.
- 45:31But you're right.
- 45:32A broad F1 look, right?
- 45:33If you're looking at it from F1.
- 45:36F1 overview.
- 45:37Overview.
- 45:38The Sargeant leaving F1 is good for F1 because right now he's kind of a laughing stock of
- 45:43F1.
- 45:44Bringing in a new young gun mid-season, that's a fun, exciting play.
- 45:49If you're trying to build faces in America, do young, exciting plays like this.
- 45:53Let's look at last year.
- 45:54DeVries was not working out.
- 45:56They brought in Danny Rick.
- 45:57All the media.
- 45:58All of a sudden there's news and all this.
- 46:00Yeah, you're right.
- 46:01What's the long-term goal of F1 really?
- 46:04If you're F1 as a platform or as this huge industry, your goal is to go worldwide.
- 46:10The start of that and the biggest moneymaker in that is a capitalistic America who's going
- 46:15to blow it up.
- 46:16You want to make money, you come to America.
- 46:17I mean we're getting an F1 race in Chicago.
- 46:19You want to make money, you go to America.
- 46:21I didn't hear that yet.
- 46:22Really?
- 46:23No, I hope that doesn't happen.
- 46:24It's already been accepted.
- 46:25We have too many races here.
- 46:27That is weird.
- 46:28I don't like that.
- 46:29Hey, it's closer and cheaper for us than the Vegas, baby!
- 46:32As far as the money mecca to throw money behind sports and buy gear and everything, it's America.
- 46:37That's a super good point.
- 46:38All the time it's America, right?
- 46:39So Sargeant only hurts.
- 46:41Merchandise, I would agree with that.
- 46:43I think the UAE would counter that with all the money they put into sports.
- 46:48But if you're looking at it from that perspective with Sargeant, he's just hurting American
- 46:55stock right now.
- 46:56Because everybody's like, if you're an American fan you want to root for somebody who can
- 46:58do something in a car.
- 46:59And right now it sucks to root for somebody who's American.
- 47:03Finally we get an American on the grid and he's not performing.
- 47:06It's tough to watch.
- 47:07He's out of every race.
- 47:08He wrecks.
- 47:09Somebody else is taking his spot.
- 47:11Because his car broke and now he gets his car.
- 47:14It's the ultimate slap in the face.
- 47:19Like you don't watch the Olympics through for other countries, you watch it through
- 47:21for your country.
- 47:22But if your country loses every event, you're not tuning in.
- 47:25Yeah, no, I mean it's a good point.
- 47:29I don't know if Kimmy would grow it in America per se.
- 47:32He'd grow it as a whole though.
- 47:34As F1 give it new life, as a mid-season jolt.
- 47:37I do like that idea 100%.
- 47:39It doesn't hurt the...
- 47:41It's not that it hurts America, like the American viewership.
- 47:44It's not that it jumps like a huge surge of people wanting to watch from America.
- 47:48But right now I think Sargent is hurting the American viewership for people that want to
- 47:52watch it and root for an American.
- 47:53That's fair.
- 47:54That's fair.
- 47:55And I want to move on.
- 47:56We got Hus.
- 47:57Yeah.
- 47:58But I mean, better this season.
- 47:59Until they went Russian for a second.
- 48:02No.
- 48:03That was a dark time.
- 48:08But now that threw me out.
- 48:11Who was I going to go with?
- 48:15If you bring in Kimmy and that gets accepted and all that, could that, not does it, but
- 48:21could it hurt his career in any way possible?
- 48:24The fact that you're throwing him into a Williams car that's not amazing right now.
- 48:28No.
- 48:29I honestly don't think so.
- 48:30Because I think there's no better opportunity for a young cat to start than in one of those
- 48:34lower cars.
- 48:35Right?
- 48:36If it's as worse as it's going to get right now, then it's only looking up from there.
- 48:40You also see what you got.
- 48:42Before you commit to a year in a Mercedes, you see what you got in a Williams, see if
- 48:46he can handle the pressure, see if he can control an F1 car.
- 48:48Now, obviously he's done tests.
- 48:50There's more ways to look at it than getting in live racing, but that's the best bet.
- 48:54And can he overtake in an F1 car?
- 48:57Can he defend in an F1 car?
- 48:58It doesn't matter the car at the end of the day when you're gauging just to see how he
- 49:01performs and what he has.
- 49:03It's the same pace or the same route that Russell took.
- 49:07100%.
- 49:08100%.
- 49:09And that's what we keep talking about with the drivers and just their skill in general.
- 49:16Every week, one of us mentions Verstappen's skill.
- 49:20That's what this is testing.
- 49:21It's testing his skill at the F1 level in a bad car.
- 49:25And then if he does well, then he probably is in that Merc seat next year then.
- 49:28They don't have to worry about it.
- 49:29I don't think they can afford to put a rookie who's skipped levels, albeit he's really good.
- 49:36I don't know if they can afford to put him in a car that high up.
- 49:39I think he's got to.
- 49:40I just think he's smart.
- 49:41Yeah.
- 49:42I think he's got to.
- 49:43Like you said, we saw Boatos to Merc and then we saw Russell to Merc.
- 49:46I think Landel's the only one I can think of that has gotten McLaren and stayed in
- 49:51McLaren.
- 49:52But even Verstappen, he started at, it wasn't called Alfatari, it was whatever before.
- 49:57Toro Rosa.
- 49:58I think it was Toro Rosa before going into Red Bull.
- 49:59But that's, I mean, Red Bull you got to look at a little bit differently because it's their
- 50:02junior seat.
- 50:03Look at Albion, went into the Toro Rosa, went to the Red Bull spot.
- 50:06But the Toro Rosa still wasn't doing as good as the Red Bull.
- 50:09Oh no, no, no, 100%.
- 50:10But it's like, it's different with the development of Red Bull drivers though because it's that
- 50:14junior pro.
- 50:15Yeah, sure.
- 50:16I see all Alfamale into Charles Leclerc, another one, Alfamale into Ferrari.
- 50:20I just see even if they're not technically sister teams, they're definitely development
- 50:24teams.
- 50:25Oh, they're 100%.
- 50:26I wouldn't see the junior teams without being branded by Mercedes and Ferrari.
- 50:29100%.
- 50:30So with that real quick, that kind of makes this next part a little bit interesting now
- 50:34with the rumors of Bottas maybe wiggling his way into Williams for next season.
- 50:39Now obviously if Kimi does well and then goes into the Merc seat and then Bottas, maybe he
- 50:44does go to Williams.
- 50:45But if that doesn't happen and Kimi stays at Williams another year, or do you think
- 50:49that's not even a possibility, then maybe Bottas is out of a job.
- 50:55But I think somebody would pick him up.
- 50:57I don't think Kimi would be in Williams next year.
- 51:04I think he would be, if he comes into Williams this year, he's in Merc next year or out of
- 51:09F1.
- 51:10Or he's out of F1.
- 51:11Just because when you're talking about a Merc spot, it's a Merc spot, right?
- 51:16It's a prime spot.
- 51:17It's one of three prime spots that historically, or not historically, but over the course of
- 51:21the last 20 years.
- 51:22Over the moment, 100%, it's still a spot you want to be in.
- 51:26So it's just like you can't just take a chance.
- 51:31And at the end of the day, it also goes to who's available.
- 51:34I'm really, really surprised that Merc is not throwing a lot more at Science.
- 51:40But I think Kimi's.
- 51:41It's because of the plan of Kimi.
- 51:42It's because of the plan of Kimi.
- 51:44And I have another thing about Science real quick.
- 51:47I heard that Audi is the top landing spot for Science.
- 51:52But I heard that the 26th of this month, Monaco, is the deciding factor where he has to make
- 51:59a decision on Audi.
- 52:00On Audi?
- 52:01Really?
- 52:02They look elsewhere.
- 52:03Oh, that's crazy.
- 52:04And I think that's 100% fair.
- 52:06Imagine tomorrow we find out that Carlos is on.
- 52:09That's how it's going to happen, dude.
- 52:10Every time we get done recording something, news happens the next day.
- 52:14I think that's what happened with the Albion extension.
- 52:16It was.
- 52:17Yeah, it was the 90%.
- 52:19Seriously.
- 52:20Did we mention last episode at all about, real quick, the rumor about Zhou?
- 52:24Zhou?
- 52:25Maybe Zhou?
- 52:26Sorry, that's what it was.
- 52:28Damn it.
- 52:29Zhou going to that second Haas seat at all?
- 52:31Oh, brought it up last week.
- 52:33Did we bring it up?
- 52:34Okay.
- 52:35I haven't heard any too much more traction.
- 52:36I haven't heard too much more either.
- 52:37I thought I saw it like officially as a rumor, like on F1's website.
- 52:40That dude does not deserve a seat in F1.
- 52:42At all?
- 52:43None at all?
- 52:44What has he done better than Sargent besides what?
- 52:45Did he score one or two points last year?
- 52:47He doesn't crash as much as Sargent.
- 52:48I would say he's better than Sargent, but he's not performing.
- 52:50Yeah.
- 52:51I just found it interesting.
- 52:52But is it hard to perform in that stake seat?
- 52:55I mean, I don't think it's been a great car.
- 52:58I mean, look at Bottas.
- 52:59I was going to say, look at the last time Bottas scored points.
- 53:02He's a skill driver.
- 53:03That's true.
- 53:04I don't know.
- 53:05I think it's really hard to determine if it's him or if it's the car.
- 53:06I personally would like to see him at Haas, but I could also see them maybe wanting someone
- 53:10a little bit more.
- 53:11Well, he is kind of like the veteran at this point.
- 53:13It's his third or fourth year driving, so he's not the veteran, but it's not a rookie.
- 53:18So he knows how to drive these tracks.
- 53:20He knows how to handle an F1 car.
- 53:22He's not going to be able to train Baermann in because we all know he's going to get the
- 53:24second seat.
- 53:25Right.
- 53:26But it's a safe option probably, I think.
- 53:31Or do they keep K-Mag?
- 53:32I don't know.
- 53:33And we're not even going to get into all that right now because we could keep going on forever.
- 53:36And that's another thing we could table for another time.
- 53:39Sure.
- 53:40When as an F1 team do you give up on a young driver?
- 53:42When is that time for you?
- 53:44And maybe it depends on where you are as a team at the time.
- 53:46You can afford to wait if you're a lower team to see if they develop.
- 53:50But I think that could be a topic for another time too.
- 53:52When do you move on?
- 53:55Real quick, last bit of news.
- 53:56Unless anybody, Cole, do you have anything else from the dark web?
- 54:00I got two quick ones.
- 54:01Do we actually?
- 54:02Sprint races every race.
- 54:04The maximum of 25.
- 54:06No.
- 54:07Dark web, baby.
- 54:08Dark web, huh?
- 54:09No.
- 54:10I don't like that at all.
- 54:11It's because of the dominance of Red Bull.
- 54:12That's why it's been in discussion is sprint races every race.
- 54:15Wait a couple years before we even think about that.
- 54:18But the last thing I think we've got to bring it up, the McLaren livery.
- 54:20I know, yeah, 100%.
- 54:21Santa livery is so good.
- 54:22That was the last thing.
- 54:23100%.
- 54:24The McLaren livery looks good.
- 54:27Other than the freaking...
- 54:28Oh, it looks so clean.
- 54:29And I know, like we talked about it before, the chrome wheels have to be on there.
- 54:31I get it.
- 54:32I hate that garbage because with the regular orange livery looks great, honestly.
- 54:39It doesn't look that bad.
- 54:40But with the Santa thing, it's just...
- 54:42I hate those wheels.
- 54:43Just one race, honey.
- 54:44I'm okay with it.
- 54:45One race, take that garbage off.
- 54:46I think, hey, at least it's not the Ferrari completely blue wheels that we saw last race.
- 54:51That was...
- 54:52Not last race, but the race before.
- 54:53That was awesome.
- 54:54That car was so ugly.
- 54:55It was so bad.
- 54:56Clash City.
- 54:57Yeah.
- 54:58Just like the chrome wheels on the Santa livery.
- 55:00But the livery looks freaking awesome.
- 55:03I mean, it's...
- 55:04It looks clean, man.
- 55:05Dude, it looks really good.
- 55:06That'll be fun to see at Monaco.
- 55:08It's just fun.
- 55:09It's just fun.
- 55:11With that, let's just wrap the news and head right into our preview of Monaco.
- 55:41Let's just head right into the Monaco preview, of course.
- 55:56Big money Monaco for your average annual income according to whatever, worlddata.info.
- 56:03I have no idea if that's relevant or not.
- 56:06It's 186,000 US dollars a year.
- 56:09Yeah, whatever.
- 56:10A lot of money.
- 56:11Joe, jeez, sorry.
- 56:12Hi.
- 56:13I was trying to figure out your name staring at you.
- 56:16I was like, what is your name?
- 56:18Joe, do your thing, homie.
- 56:20Yeah.
- 56:21Monaco, I do know that fact as well.
- 56:23It helps that they're such a small entity that not a lot of people, when they're really
- 56:27rich, it's going to boost them up a bit.
- 56:29For sure.
- 56:30It's funny, we were talking a little bit beforehand and I think most of us are of the same mind,
- 56:34happy to have a conversation, but we all kind of...
- 56:37I should say we all, Tyler and I were talking about it a little bit.
- 56:41We kind of think it's a little bit boring.
- 56:43Last year was a little hectic, but overall I've definitely had a race or two at Monaco
- 56:46where I've fallen asleep maybe.
- 56:49I don't know, what do you guys think?
- 56:50It's such a boring race.
- 56:52It's historic, it's the pinnacle, whatever you want to call it, but it's like there's
- 56:57one place to pass, you don't see it because you can't get that DRS activated in time coming
- 57:03in through that last little bit.
- 57:06It's all qualifying.
- 57:07It is all qualifying.
- 57:08It's just time trials, man.
- 57:11The start is cool, and if we can get JLo on the big screen, I like that.
- 57:14Word.
- 57:15Other than that, I'm Gucci, I'll just chill back.
- 57:20It is a glorified time trial, that is what it feels like.
- 57:23I know for me anyway, again, suck a** at it, but playing the video game, Monaco is intense
- 57:31dude for my first couple laps, and then I'm out of the race because I hit a wall anyway
- 57:35and my wheels go flying off and whatever, but as far as fun, at least in the game anyway,
- 57:42I love that track, I wish I could race it better, and then you add in another 19 cars,
- 57:47pure carnage from me, but you know what I mean?
- 57:51Yeah dude, that track just dominated me.
- 57:52But as far as boring, just seeing the skill of the drivers is dope, but that's it dude,
- 57:59that's all you get.
- 58:00You get that in qualifying, I don't need what, 70 laps of it?
- 58:05Maybe a sneak peek on a yacht or something, something's going on, who knows, party's going
- 58:10on, you never know, but other than that, that's it man.
- 58:13But Joe, sorry, go for it.
- 58:14No, no, no, it's good, it's good, it's good.
- 58:16Yeah, I wasn't expecting to have a ton of talk about, but it was actually pretty crazy
- 58:20last year, so we'll just jump into it.
- 58:23Monaco, the Formula One Grand Prix de Monaco, 2024 is the official name, I'm going to start
- 58:29doing that every single recap, I'm going to say the official name because we got some
- 58:31crazy ones.
- 58:33So fun facts to start off, Monaco is one of the seven venues on the inaugural F1 World
- 58:38Championship calendar back in 1950.
- 58:41Now the track actually goes back further than that, but it was private F1 races.
- 58:46The actual World Championship, this is one of the seven that was that year.
- 58:50Do you know, has it always been the same track, the same configuration?
- 58:57For the most part it has been, there have been a few changes here and there.
- 59:00Like if you look back and forth, I think we've seen videos of like, if you were to take away
- 59:05all the barriers or go back in time, it's pretty much the same.
- 59:09I think they've changed a few things here or there, but I don't, like that huge curve
- 59:14out of the tunnel, I don't know if that was originally there.
- 59:17I don't think there was that chicane at that turn, I think that was just a straight shot
- 59:21back in the day.
- 59:22Yeah, I think so too.
- 59:23So that's, I think that that's probably one of the biggest changes.
- 59:26Sure left that puppy in.
- 59:29Yeah.
- 59:30Other than, yeah, other than the race, it's a glitz and glam circuit, like you kind of,
- 59:34you kind of said, unfortunately can drag on a little bit during the race with how narrow
- 59:37the track is, limited with overtaking.
- 59:39So yeah, we've already said all this quality is all the more important.
- 59:43Last year was the year where we saw a Checo actually crash in qualifying.
- 59:49The year before that, Checo crashed in qualifying and ruined Verstappen's qualifying and we
- 59:54had a little bit of drama there.
- 59:56Is that when Leclerc got pulled and then on the outlier, the formation lap, his engine
- 1:00:00cut?
- 1:00:01This was, this was, no, I think that was, I think it actually was.
- 1:00:04I think that is the same race.
- 1:00:07Because he did last year, he didn't get pulled, that was Verstappen, but the two years before
- 1:00:11that he did get pulled.
- 1:00:12Cause that was when Perez did it and then like Sians ended up like almost hitting him
- 1:00:16and got sideways so they had to red flag it.
- 1:00:18Yes, that's exactly what happened.
- 1:00:20Yeah.
- 1:00:21And then, yeah, I think Charles, he had an engine problem last year and then the year
- 1:00:23before that it started to rain.
- 1:00:25And they brought him into the pits and I think they messed up his strategy altogether.
- 1:00:29Or they pit him too early or too late or something like that.
- 1:00:33Yeah, so the start Verstappen, Alonso and Ocon, Sergio Perez, like I said, crashed.
- 1:00:38He started in 20th.
- 1:00:40Charles did receive a three place grid penalty cause he impeded one of the McLaren's drivers,
- 1:00:45one of the McLaren drivers who both started 10th and 11th.
- 1:00:48And then both Alpines in the top 10.
- 1:00:50Very different.
- 1:00:51I don't think we're going to see that this weekend.
- 1:00:52No way.
- 1:00:53Not a chance.
- 1:00:54Maybe.
- 1:00:55Maybe they'll get him.
- 1:00:56Yeah.
- 1:00:57I don't think we'll see that.
- 1:00:58Oh, definitely not.
- 1:00:59No, that's, that's, oh, that's real.
- 1:01:0025, 30 years?
- 1:01:0126?
- 1:01:02No, new race?
- 1:01:03Oh, snap.
- 1:01:04Maybe, maybe they get it together.
- 1:01:05Probably not, but we'll see.
- 1:01:06All right.
- 1:01:07Jumping into the race.
- 1:01:08We see actually a clean turn one start of the race.
- 1:01:10The only trouble that we see in the first lap coming further down the grid with a Haas
- 1:01:14bumping into a Williams, causing a momentary yellow flag and then cars almost completely
- 1:01:18parking at the hairpin.
- 1:01:19We still see Perez in last.
- 1:01:21I wrote this down.
- 1:01:22It's the slowest I've ever seen a Red Bull go before.
- 1:01:24Like he was almost like stopped at that hairpin.
- 1:01:27At the end of a first lap, Hulkenberg is up four places and strolls down four after taking
- 1:01:31some damage and a puncture.
- 1:01:33In lap 11, we saw Verstappen three seconds ahead of Alonso, who was almost 10 seconds
- 1:01:37ahead of Ocon with Sines fighting behind.
- 1:01:40Sines looking to push Ocon to use his tires more to get a little too close.
- 1:01:44The same exact kind of corner where they went straight all those years ago.
- 1:01:49Sines got a little bit too close, broke a little bit too late, ran right into the back
- 1:01:52of Ocon, got his wing stuck underneath Ocon's tire, had to get a, had to go into the pits.
- 1:01:58Actually, no, he didn't go into the pits.
- 1:01:59Sorry.
- 1:02:00I should stick to my notes.
- 1:02:01He got wing damage, but it was only that end plate and it didn't affect his race too much.
- 1:02:05So he raced the entire race on a damaged wing.
- 1:02:07Which is crazy to race Monaco on a damaged wing.
- 1:02:10Last year and the year before, I saw like through many races, wing, like end plate wings
- 1:02:16getting damaged or coming off and it not really affecting pace very much.
- 1:02:19I don't know if that's changed this year, but kind of something that I've noted and
- 1:02:23seen before.
- 1:02:24I don't know anything about aerodynamics, but I feel like if something's supposed to
- 1:02:27be there, you probably want it.
- 1:02:28You probably want it.
- 1:02:29Didn't that happen to Maxis here in one of his wins?
- 1:02:32I don't remember.
- 1:02:34I'm not sure.
- 1:02:35I don't think Maxis had any crazy damage except the possible.
- 1:02:38He's barely been close enough to people to damage his stuff.
- 1:02:40Oh, except of course with the brakes exploding in Australia, but yeah.
- 1:02:44Oh, that's right.
- 1:02:47Lap 30, we actually see Verstappen starting to lap the bottom half of the grid.
- 1:02:51We start to see the start of pit stop windows.
- 1:02:53Okan pits on lap 33 for a slow 4.2 seconds.
- 1:02:58Luckily he was able to stay ahead by only one second ahead of Sainz.
- 1:03:03We hear Sainz status to pleasure to his engineers on strategy and he's unable to make that
- 1:03:08gap back up to Okan.
- 1:03:10Perez's day gets worse on lap 36 when he gets a bit too close to Magnussen and ruins
- 1:03:14his wing under the Haas's back tire.
- 1:03:16Sainz is forcing his weight race further and forcing him into the pits for a wing change.
- 1:03:20This is when we start to see the rain begin to fall in lap 51.
- 1:03:24Cars are being affected by it.
- 1:03:25Lake brakes sliding off, losing the back end, but only in specific parts of the track.
- 1:03:30At the very start I think it was raining like in the first half and the bottom half was
- 1:03:34ok.
- 1:03:36This created a very interesting mixed condition scenario.
- 1:03:39We saw Lonzo go in for a new mediums instead of interns.
- 1:03:45At this point we have about 5 cars that are on the inters of Moore starting to feed into
- 1:03:49the pit lane for a change of tire.
- 1:03:51Sainz unfortunately was not one of those drivers.
- 1:03:54He did another lap on the drys.
- 1:03:59Didn't spin out but definitely got sideways before the hairpin.
- 1:04:03Found his way into the runoff area and got a bit further.
- 1:04:07Lap 55 was a certified shitshow is what I have written here.
- 1:04:11Absolute carnage.
- 1:04:12The top 4 cars still on drys finally decided to go in for the inters except that there
- 1:04:16is one problem.
- 1:04:18Both Ferrari's fighting for position.
- 1:04:20They need to double stack into the pits.
- 1:04:22Leclerc gets his tires first and Sainz files in immediately after losing another position
- 1:04:27to the other Alpine of Gastly.
- 1:04:29All the while Alonzo pits again for inters and is able to retain his 2nd place position.
- 1:04:34Stroll in lap 58 he started playing bumper cars into 3 different walls, breaking his
- 1:04:37wing before finally deciding to pull off into a runoff area and retire.
- 1:04:41Magnussen the last driver on drys runs into the wall right before the pit and is able
- 1:04:44to back up and find his way in.
- 1:04:46I believe he retires there.
- 1:04:48George is given a penalty on lap 60 for an unsafe rejoin when he backs out of a runoff
- 1:04:52area and right into Pérez.
- 1:04:53We actually see George go up into the air.
- 1:04:55Then we see a couple small more bumps into walls and runoffs for the remaining laps of
- 1:04:59the 78 lap race.
- 1:05:01We finally find the finish line into a very hectic Monaco GP for Stappen, Alonzo, Ocon,
- 1:05:06Hamilton and then Russell.
- 1:05:07Stroll and Magnussen weirdly the only ones to retire that whole race but it was a little
- 1:05:12crazy.
- 1:05:13I don't remember it being that crazy last year.
- 1:05:15No that was a lot but I think when it rains in the middle of a race like that, that's
- 1:05:20gotta just throw, obviously you have plan A through Z right probably but that's just
- 1:05:24gotta throw your whole strategy out.
- 1:05:26Especially in Monaco.
- 1:05:27I think the problem is that like you said before 70 laps it's a long race right?
- 1:05:31It is a long race.
- 1:05:32I think we have these little bubbles of action happening and then we just get a whole lot
- 1:05:38of nothing for a little bit.
- 1:05:39My notes start at 1 and the next note is at lap 11.
- 1:05:43Your last bit of your notes where everybody bumping and hitting the wall?
- 1:05:47Might as well be me out there you know what I mean?
- 1:05:50This is the worst track to race in the game.
- 1:05:53It's so bad.
- 1:05:54It's so hard.
- 1:05:55It's so bad.
- 1:05:56Me and Tyler would play so much.
- 1:05:57We'd just be ripping around.
- 1:05:58I'm like dude I just ripped this time.
- 1:06:00You rip one lap with a good time you're just ecstatic.
- 1:06:03And you get into a race you get a lap in and you're like DNF how you doing?
- 1:06:08Pretty much.
- 1:06:09Welcome to my party buddy.
- 1:06:10I've had one race win in Monaco and it was when I was playing with the season with Kevdog
- 1:06:14and the difficulty is a lot lower than it should be so I was like B1.
- 1:06:18Pretty sure I lost my full wing.
- 1:06:20Even that I feel good.
- 1:06:21Even in the race.
- 1:06:22Did you box for a new wing or did you run the damaged wing?
- 1:06:26We just slowed down.
- 1:06:27You can't get past so you just gotta slow down real good.
- 1:06:31Gotta slow down real good.
- 1:06:33Slow down real good.
- 1:06:36I mean I don't think we'll see as much carnage or just excitement.
- 1:06:42I can't even believe I said carnage normally.
- 1:06:44That's weird.
- 1:06:45I don't like that.
- 1:06:46We'll change it up.
- 1:06:47We'll change it up.
- 1:06:48Go edit that out.
- 1:06:49But like I don't think yeah we'll edit that.
- 1:06:51Just a blur of me go gah.
- 1:06:54No I don't think we'll see the Mercs finishing that high at all at Monaco this year.
- 1:06:59No way in heck.
- 1:07:00No way in heck.
- 1:07:03I do think that we could see Ferrari act a little better here this week and I think it's
- 1:07:08just because of how much of a challenge the track is as a whole.
- 1:07:12I don't think Ferrari's gonna have any better of a car or anything like that but I think
- 1:07:18Leclerc and Carlos are gonna have a bit more experience with Monaco's unpredictability
- 1:07:25as predictable as it may be.
- 1:07:27It still has a little bit of that unpredictability and I like Charles and Carlos' experience
- 1:07:33over Lando and Oscar.
- 1:07:36Again even though it feels like Lando's been racing F1 forever now but and he's racing
- 1:07:43at the top of his game right now.
- 1:07:44He's on his way up to the top of his game currently.
- 1:07:49I think Max still wins it but I think it's gonna be some battles between as battle-y
- 1:07:54as we get between McLaren and Ferrari this weekend.
- 1:07:57I don't know.
- 1:07:58And I do think Checo has a bounce back race this week.
- 1:08:02I'd say Checo's top five but I don't see him grabbing a podium.
- 1:08:06Really?
- 1:08:07You do not see Checo on the podium?
- 1:08:09I haven't had Checo on the podium for a hot minute in our predictions you know.
- 1:08:13I feel like just my gut is telling me that changes this weekend.
- 1:08:16I don't think this race man it's just though it would be if it was last year with the car's
- 1:08:22performance of last year across the grid I would say yeah.
- 1:08:26I would slot Checo into that second spot or at least third.
- 1:08:30This year with the way that McLaren is looking right now and the way that Charles can make
- 1:08:35a lap in this track I just I don't see Checo getting in front of Lando or Charles.
- 1:08:42I would agree.
- 1:08:43I don't think Checo's up there this week.
- 1:08:44Like I said four or five I could see him four or five I just don't see him grabbing a podium.
- 1:08:49For sure.
- 1:08:50I'm like I'm up in my mind right now I'm like obviously we're in new predictions here soon
- 1:08:54but like in my mind I'm kind of like obviously I'm at turbo-stepping in the top three but
- 1:08:58I might be looking at both Ferrari's this week I don't know.
- 1:09:01That's honestly that's where I'm going.
- 1:09:03I don't know.
- 1:09:04Before we even got into the predictions like that's where I'm going honestly taking a risk
- 1:09:08taking a chance.
- 1:09:09But I just again it's just for me it's the drivers this week and it's not taking anything
- 1:09:15away from Lando or Oscar and again Oscar was running a great race last week had a great
- 1:09:19quality.
- 1:09:21I just at Monaco specifically I'm right there.
- 1:09:27I'm going for Sapan and both Ferrari's and that's just a gut thing.
- 1:09:32This is a white whale.
- 1:09:34This track's a white whale.
- 1:09:35Kinda.
- 1:09:36Kinda?
- 1:09:37You know I mean there's so much that goes into it.
- 1:09:38I mean last year it was domination all year from Verstappen but to see Alonso and Ocon
- 1:09:45in the top three.
- 1:09:47That's crazy.
- 1:09:48It's weather conditions though.
- 1:09:49It's just a wild race too.
- 1:09:51It's weather conditions.
- 1:09:52If the weather comes into play this weekend is the only time I see you having a wild chase.
- 1:09:56So what is the weather this weekend in Monaco?
- 1:09:58I just checked.
- 1:10:00It is sunny on Sunday and we have 50% chance of rain on Saturday.
- 1:10:03So Saturday's qualifying.
- 1:10:04Huge though.
- 1:10:05Not as much.
- 1:10:08It doesn't matter as much as qualifying as it does race because the strategy wouldn't
- 1:10:12throw on different tires.
- 1:10:13But with qualifying though I mean.
- 1:10:15That's interesting though if it rains during quali though.
- 1:10:17If it rains during quali but everybody has a chance to get on the same tires and not
- 1:10:20be penalized.
- 1:10:21Yeah but there's also that switch of who's going to throw on what enters.
- 1:10:26Who's going to throw on who's going to swing off over a soft because there's so many different
- 1:10:29things.
- 1:10:30I don't know.
- 1:10:31That's risky business.
- 1:10:32I mean it's either a soft or an inner.
- 1:10:34It's a soft, wet or inner.
- 1:10:36You don't run anything but that in quali.
- 1:10:39But if it's also raining going into quali FIA is going to come in and limit all their
- 1:10:42tires.
- 1:10:43But so at the end of the day who can race best in those conditions?
- 1:10:46Lando has proven he's not bad in rain.
- 1:10:48Carlos is really good in the rain.
- 1:10:52I think that at least humanizes for Stappen a little bit if it rains during quali.
- 1:10:56It doesn't give him that much of an edge.
- 1:10:59Dang that's interesting.
- 1:11:0050% chance.
- 1:11:01Are we going to see those rain guards boys?
- 1:11:03Absolutely not.
- 1:11:04Absolutely not.
- 1:11:05It's 50% at around 12 and I think practice ends at 12.30 or starts at 12.30 so we might
- 1:11:13not even see rain during qualifying.
- 1:11:15I really want it just because I feel like it would be really interesting.
- 1:11:18We're still a few days away.
- 1:11:19We're still talking about the wind guards real quick.
- 1:11:22I saw a photo of LeClaire.
- 1:11:25It says Ferrari is trying out the new wind tunnels and it was just like you know those
- 1:11:29boats that ride in Florida in the bayou.
- 1:11:32Did you see that behind him in the car?
- 1:11:36That's so funny.
- 1:11:39Joe what's your podium?
- 1:11:42This is a tough one.
- 1:11:43Don't be a McLaren fanboy.
- 1:11:45I'm unfortunately going to be a McLaren fanboy.
- 1:11:47I...
- 1:11:48Both?
- 1:11:49No I don't think both.
- 1:11:50Do it.
- 1:11:51He's not a fanboy then.
- 1:11:53So I don't see Checo getting podium either.
- 1:11:57He won the race two years ago but he did so bad last year.
- 1:12:01Yes.
- 1:12:02His race win.
- 1:12:03Don't get me started.
- 1:12:04The RPMs bro.
- 1:12:05He did that on purpose.
- 1:12:06He crashed on purpose.
- 1:12:07Oh yeah the crash.
- 1:12:08Yeah I mean that's hearsay.
- 1:12:09Either way.
- 1:12:10No you can hear it.
- 1:12:11On the telemet... and on the telemetry you can see it.
- 1:12:16You can see it homie.
- 1:12:18I looked into that.
- 1:12:19You can see that.
- 1:12:21And hear it.
- 1:12:22Anyway sorry.
- 1:12:23So anyway I think...
- 1:12:24I don't get worked up about that at all.
- 1:12:26I'm getting Verstappen.
- 1:12:28I'm going to get Lando and I'm going to get Leclerc as well.
- 1:12:32Unfortunately just because it's kind of a meme now I don't think Leclerc is going to
- 1:12:36win his home race because it just... they just can't right?
- 1:12:40No there's a weird omen there that's just not going to happen.
- 1:12:42I could see Leclerc getting polled this weekend.
- 1:12:45I don't think he's going to win the race though.
- 1:12:47God if he gots polled I would cheer for him so hard dude.
- 1:12:51I don't hate Ferrari but I'm just not a Ferrari fan.
- 1:12:53I'm a Ferrari fan this year.
- 1:12:54I love Ferrari stuff and a lot of people like them so I hate them automatically.
- 1:12:58Same with Ripple.
- 1:12:59I was the same way.
- 1:13:00Last year I really didn't like Ferrari.
- 1:13:01I became a fan this year.
- 1:13:02But man it would be awesome to see Charles win there.
- 1:13:04It would be.
- 1:13:05Call me the Oregon Trail because next year when Lewis goes to Ferrari...
- 1:13:12Next year when Lewis goes to Ferrari I'm jumping on the bandwagon dude.
- 1:13:15I tell you that right now.
- 1:13:16Call me the Oregon Trail.
- 1:13:17I'm going to be nothing but red every day.
- 1:13:24That was so funny.
- 1:13:25That was money dude.
- 1:13:27So Cole's a Ferrari fan next year.
- 1:13:30So what's your official podium?
- 1:13:31I'm a Lewis fan.
- 1:13:32I just want to real quick before we jump into my podium first.
- 1:13:35I'm in dead last right now.
- 1:13:36Can I go last?
- 1:13:38I think the dead last person is really good.
- 1:13:39We'll give an update on that real quick.
- 1:13:40Did I go last every time I was in last?
- 1:13:43I don't know.
- 1:13:44We've kind of been random.
- 1:13:45So to bring that up.
- 1:13:46So everybody got two points last week except for Smelty who got three.
- 1:13:52So Joe and I are currently tied at 13.
- 1:13:54Smelty's at 12 and Cole's bringing up the rear at 11.
- 1:13:57Yeah but you're at 11 though.
- 1:13:59Two points from first to fourth.
- 1:14:01See this is what the constructors should look like.
- 1:14:04This close.
- 1:14:05That would be fun.
- 1:14:06Hey I'm just running out there.
- 1:14:07Can we take a vote real quick?
- 1:14:09I go last.
- 1:14:10Looks like you're going right now buddy.
- 1:14:13Alright I'll hop in here.
- 1:14:16So I'm going to mimic Joe's podium.
- 1:14:19I got Verstappen, Lando and Leclair this week.
- 1:14:22It's going to be the same podium as the last two races.
- 1:14:24Not too exciting in that regard.
- 1:14:27But I think Leclair, he races this so if the team can get a car underneath him it's his
- 1:14:33track.
- 1:14:34100%.
- 1:14:35I think the McLaren's just too quick for Lando not to qualify top three.
- 1:14:38And Verstappen's.
- 1:14:39Wait wait wait you said McLaren's too quick?
- 1:14:43McLaren's quick to not qualify for Lando to qualify.
- 1:14:46For Lando to not qualify top three.
- 1:14:48It's too quick, got it.
- 1:14:51I got you here.
- 1:14:52Nobody else left so.
- 1:14:54I'm, I'm, I'm.
- 1:14:55I guess you could go if you want.
- 1:14:57I'm going with the enemy this week okay.
- 1:15:00I'm going to do Verstappen, Checo, Leclair.
- 1:15:03Whoa.
- 1:15:04Man that's crazy maybe he knows something.
- 1:15:06Checo is really good at street races, street courses.
- 1:15:11But I don't know man this is such a.
- 1:15:13My gut coming in tonight was also to take Checo.
- 1:15:16100%.
- 1:15:17He just didn't look good last week.
- 1:15:18Usually he rebounds but that has not been the case this year.
- 1:15:21Yeah I've been taking Checo, I mean you can check, I've been taking Checo a lot.
- 1:15:25This is literally Joe's second time not taking Checo this year for the record.
- 1:15:29I just think after seeing last race I think it's like a turning point.
- 1:15:32I just think the rest of the season's going to look a little, a little worse for him.
- 1:15:35He's still going to get podiums.
- 1:15:36I'm not getting it wrong.
- 1:15:37No go ahead Spellzi.
- 1:15:39Just real quick every race we mentioned that this is a bounce back race for Checo it never
- 1:15:43happens.
- 1:15:44That's the thing.
- 1:15:45So far.
- 1:15:46Which is weird.
- 1:15:47So, so you mister that Checo's in the Red Bull seat 100% next year I just don't buy
- 1:15:52it.
- 1:15:53I just don't see who, the only person I could see filling that seat would be Sians and they
- 1:15:58just don't have enough to offer.
- 1:16:00I'm with Tyler.
- 1:16:01I think, I think yeah.
- 1:16:03Checo's getting the seat because there's no one else to take it.
- 1:16:06At the end of the day the dude's still P2 in the construction.
- 1:16:09Well for sure.
- 1:16:10Very sorry WDC.
- 1:16:11But it's similar to the boat toss with Lewis thing.
- 1:16:13Nobody looks at the second guy.
- 1:16:14They know he's there, they know he's a skilled driver but nobody really pays attention to
- 1:16:17him.
- 1:16:18I think Checo falls into that a little bit.
- 1:16:21Red Bull does.
- 1:16:22People might not, Red Bull does.
- 1:16:23I mean the only, the only reason.
- 1:16:24So if they do they're disappointed with his performance.
- 1:16:27I'm sorry Checo did actually fall out of the top two spot last week Leclerc Plast passed
- 1:16:31him.
- 1:16:32So Checo is now third in the WDC.
- 1:16:35And interesting.
- 1:16:36At the end I talked about this with Tyler.
- 1:16:38I don't think that Perez, I think he's at fifth this year.
- 1:16:42I think he's at fifth in the drivers this year.
- 1:16:44But hey he's not.
- 1:16:45I think you said that even early on in the season.
- 1:16:47I did.
- 1:16:48I did.
- 1:16:49You said he was out of the fifth, out of five.
- 1:16:51Alright I'll say sixth still.
- 1:16:52I'll still admit to that.
- 1:16:53I mean he's 12 points away from dropping under Lando to go into fifth.
- 1:16:57I don't think he's up there.
- 1:16:58Sorry he's six points.
- 1:16:59I said this episode one.
- 1:17:01For fourth.
- 1:17:02So I guess no.
- 1:17:03So I said this episode one.
- 1:17:04Too many numbers again.
- 1:17:05He's not in the top five.
- 1:17:07But I mean as everybody knows, the fans know, we're ten bands in each on this.
- 1:17:12The points spread at the end of the year.
- 1:17:14So I mean I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking the dark horse.
- 1:17:19I gotta take Perez.
- 1:17:21Checo's going up there.
- 1:17:22He's getting, he's getting three.
- 1:17:24Leclerc's getting two.
- 1:17:25I agree with you Smeltie.
- 1:17:26I think Leclerc might be able to take the pole on this one.
- 1:17:30I, if he gets a good chance at the pole.
- 1:17:34I would, I'm rooting for him so hard to win the race.
- 1:17:38But just with the past and Leclerc at Monaco specifically, it's just, it doesn't track
- 1:17:45that way for him to get a dub.
- 1:17:47Even with the pole.
- 1:17:48I mean, I'll kind of throw this out.
- 1:17:50Are we going to see a Ferrari strategy mix up like we have the past two years?
- 1:17:54Because that's pretty much what ruined his races.
- 1:17:57We haven't seen that all year this year.
- 1:17:58You're right.
- 1:17:59It's been a good year.
- 1:18:00The only issue it wasn't strategy is they couldn't just put the car under.
- 1:18:03Real quick, and then.
- 1:18:04He didn't even get to strategy.
- 1:18:05Two years ago he got pole and then he got messed up on pit strategy.
- 1:18:09Two years ago is when he got the pole and he, his engine killed on the formation lap.
- 1:18:14Oh, I'm sorry.
- 1:18:15Three years ago.
- 1:18:16Two years ago they put water in his engine.
- 1:18:17Yeah.
- 1:18:18That's right.
- 1:18:19Real quick, obviously we're all team principals here, but when do you actually decide the
- 1:18:26race strategy for your cars going into the GP?
- 1:18:29Is that?
- 1:18:30Oh, weeks.
- 1:18:31Is that weeks in advance?
- 1:18:32100%.
- 1:18:33But then you modify it during practice.
- 1:18:37This is where, this is where we talked about earlier in this episode, this is where Ferrari
- 1:18:40does it right.
- 1:18:41They do it real time.
- 1:18:42Who is performing well that race?
- 1:18:44Well, I think he's asking a different question.
- 1:18:46There's like the strategy.
- 1:18:47Going into the race.
- 1:18:48Because they're both going to have like.
- 1:18:49When the GP starts, if your two drivers are going to have two different strategies, when
- 1:18:52does that get decided?
- 1:18:53But they talk about that.
- 1:18:54Okay.
- 1:18:55So that's a different thing.
- 1:18:56Let's go to B. Let's go to B. Let's go to C. Strategy B. Like there's so many strategies.
- 1:18:59I think they come in here with a ton of strategies for every circumstance that pops up.
- 1:19:03So that mean like weeks.
- 1:19:04Obviously they do obviously all change.
- 1:19:05Weeks in advance there's a ton of strategies that go into this race with, but I think real
- 1:19:10time you only really know what you know when you're in the race.
- 1:19:12But like your plan A, when do you think you decide that?
- 1:19:15So that I think is like, so I think you have like the strategies A through M, whatever
- 1:19:20it is.
- 1:19:21And they're the same for both drivers.
- 1:19:22Well, the alphabet's A through Z.
- 1:19:23Well, I don't think they have 26.
- 1:19:24I know.
- 1:19:25I know.
- 1:19:26I know.
- 1:19:27That's what I was.
- 1:19:28I mean, if you know something's wrong.
- 1:19:29If you know something's wrong, then you know something's wrong.
- 1:19:30You never know.
- 1:19:31You never know.
- 1:19:32I mean, with Ferrari, they might have a pretty wrong alphabet for all of you.
- 1:19:33Hey, I just want to make sure.
- 1:19:34I don't know my one, two, threes tonight.
- 1:19:35I want to make sure you know your ABC.
- 1:19:36Yeah, if you hear the engineer saying we're going with plan Z, something went very wrong.
- 1:19:41Again, I just got thrown in there.
- 1:19:42Public schools, maybe.
- 1:19:43That's top of his class, valedictorian right there.
- 1:19:47I did go to public school.
- 1:19:49I think to answer your question, I think they have those strategies and they're the same
- 1:19:53for each driver going into it.
- 1:19:55And then when they make that decision comes down to practice, qualifying and then how
- 1:19:59the races go.
- 1:20:00Sure.
- 1:20:01So I think you have a strategy in mind going what you're going to think and then how practice
- 1:20:04goes, how you qualify.
- 1:20:05And then it comes down to like what tires you start with.
- 1:20:08For sure.
- 1:20:09So there's.
- 1:20:10And that's what I mean.
- 1:20:11Does.
- 1:20:12And boy, we really got to end this.
- 1:20:13But does but does plan a change like in practice going into practice three, you got planning
- 1:20:17and what your stuff you're going to run during practice and blah, blah, blah, whatever sessions
- 1:20:20you're doing.
- 1:20:21Does plan a change from that practice to what plan a is in the in the GP then?
- 1:20:27I think it does.
- 1:20:28You know, and you modify it that way and then B and C and D and so on to M or Z, whatever,
- 1:20:34whenever your alphabet ends.
- 1:20:35Obviously, obviously a big, you know, that changes.
- 1:20:38Big fan this year, Danica Patrick.
- 1:20:39I have her on speed dialog.
- 1:20:40I'll give her a call after this and we'll update next episode.
- 1:20:43That doesn't surprise me.
- 1:20:44We appreciate that.
- 1:20:45That's why we're getting a NASCAR driver involved.
- 1:20:47He just survived, baby.
- 1:20:50He just got to mention somebody.
- 1:20:51She was on Drought.
- 1:20:52Why was she on Drought?
- 1:20:53I know the answer, but we don't have time to talk about it.
- 1:21:00We'll throw it in the news next week.
- 1:21:01Sure.
- 1:21:02OK, I'll throw Danica Patrick in the news next week.
- 1:21:06And everybody will be just as surprised as Drives to Survive fans.
- 1:21:09What are we doing?
- 1:21:10Is this fast laps?
- 1:21:12Oh, man.
- 1:21:13With that, let's just let's just wrap it up.
- 1:21:15Hopefully, as always, like, comment, subscribe, definitely subscribe on YouTube.
- 1:21:22We do have a show next week as we will be wrapping Monaco and previewing what?
- 1:21:28What is after Monaco?
- 1:21:29I can't remember.
- 1:21:30I'm not actually sure.
- 1:21:31Hold, please.
- 1:21:32Hold.
- 1:21:33Canada.
- 1:21:34Canada.
- 1:21:35Canada.
- 1:21:36That's right.
- 1:21:37It's a fun track and I've won.
- 1:21:38I think that's a good track for Checo.
- 1:21:41It's not a street track.
- 1:21:43No, it's a good track.
- 1:21:44That's a good track for McLaren.
- 1:21:45Watch out.
- 1:21:46Yeah, I think I agree.
- 1:21:47I think that's going to be a good track for McLaren.
- 1:21:49Well, a lot of fast corners.
- 1:21:50Again with that, you know, again, like, comment, subscribe again.
- 1:21:54One more thanks to Kev behind the cameras making this all happen.
- 1:21:57Thanks, Kev.
- 1:21:58Yeah, I mean, with that, we'll just we'll just be back next week.
- 1:22:02Oh, see you guys later.
- 1:22:05Ding.
