- 0:01Hello and welcome back to another episode of bunted,
- 0:04lawrencium and enduring TV channel that celebrates ordinary
- 0:08people doing extraordinary things.
- 0:10So please subscribe like share and also click on an education
- 0:15Bill to get notified anytime I post new content, so was it is
- 0:19episode. I want to ask the question.
- 0:22Do we seriously need to start discussing future goals future,
- 0:27Ambitions future career. ears with our partners in a
- 0:33relationship or even getting into marriages or even after
- 0:38marriage is do we seriously need to sit down and discuss this the
- 0:42reason why I'm talking about this is because as a woman or as
- 0:46an African woman, one of the things that people always tell
- 0:49us is we always end up in the kitchen regardless of your
- 0:52qualifications, regardless of your education, they expect the
- 0:57expectation is that You're not sure are so you have to put
- 1:03certain things aside to sit down and take care of the family
- 1:07while the man go out there as the breadwinner to get money.
- 1:12Now somebody shared a story on Facebook and he said a friend of
- 1:19his living in Europe, married a woman in Nigeria.
- 1:24And after a couple of kids he decided well he's going to bring
- 1:28his wife over Her to Europe, imported wife, kind of
- 1:32situation. So, this woman in marriage, she
- 1:37is educated. She had a career.
- 1:40She was working in Nigeria. Yes, she had kids, but she was
- 1:43also working in Nigeria making ends meet while he was
- 1:46supporting them, when he was in Europe, and where she eventually
- 1:50moved, I was living with him and after moving, you know, a couple
- 1:56of kids in Europe, they usually support the family.
- 1:59So She applied for child benefit or child support?
- 2:03I dunno was called and they said that pain has some amount of
- 2:07money. So the husband was like bring
- 2:09the money the money belongs to me, and the wife said, no, no,
- 2:13no. I am the one taking care of
- 2:15these children. I will keep the money now.
- 2:19Usually, I think, I don't know, I don't have kids, so I don't
- 2:22know. But I think the reason why they
- 2:24give most of this money is especially to families who can
- 2:28afford to take care of that kid. Kids is to save the money and
- 2:32then give that child the money when they are 18, or maybe when
- 2:36you want to invest in something or buy a house or something, you
- 2:40give that child just to help them all to support them.
- 2:43But our African people, what they do is they take that money
- 2:48and keep it for themselves. Even when they can afford to
- 2:51take care of the family, what that's, by the way.
- 2:54So she's receiving this money, the man, according to the
- 2:57friend, was the one paying the bills.
- 3:00The house. And you know that statement is
- 3:02because I mean, if you're in diaspora, you know, that one
- 3:08income most times cannot even supports the family.
- 3:12So the two people need to be working.
- 3:14Yes, because she has kids, she may be working less than the man
- 3:19but that doesn't mean he was that working on supporting in
- 3:23anyway. So, but according to the story,
- 3:27he was the one paying all the bills and she was saving the
- 3:31child supports money. Now, this money is no like a lot
- 3:36of money for you to say. Okay, this is a lot of money for
- 3:39me to save but over a period of years.
- 3:43She was able to save this money and she invested in Nigeria.
- 3:47She bought land in Nigeria. She bought me new properties.
- 3:51She was able to invest, in fact, according to the story, she has
- 3:54to building, which she rented out to people and she was making
- 3:58money out of it. So after some time, you know,
- 4:03two decades or more the marriage, they had problems and
- 4:07the marriage ended. So according to the the
- 4:11Storyteller, he said that, the woman basically told the man.
- 4:16Well, you never did anything for me.
- 4:20Since you came to Europe all, you know, you don't have any
- 4:23achievement, I have two properties in Nigeria, you never
- 4:28achieved anything. So a person was basically saying
- 4:31that she was telling the husband that he never made any
- 4:34investment while she invested the money from the child support
- 4:39and was able to buy two properties while he was just
- 4:41there paying the bills according to the story.
- 4:46Now, this person was now advising people that, you know,
- 4:49if you're getting married or if you're in a relationship and
- 4:52you're planning to spend the rest of your life with this
- 4:54person, one of the things I need to sit down and talk about is
- 4:59final. Investment, talk about your
- 5:02Korea, talk about how monies are going to be talking about
- 5:06Investments, are you going to invest your money?
- 5:08How you're going to take care of your retirement age, which is
- 5:13not a bad thing, according to what he was saying?
- 5:16So people started analyzing the situation, everybody was talking
- 5:19about how the woman was selfish. How the woman, you know, did not
- 5:24consider her husband, how she was just, you know, saving the
- 5:28money and using it for us. Self while not even putting the
- 5:32money into consideration while he was just there paying bills.
- 5:35And I really did not sit down well with me, because I felt
- 5:39there is a lot of misconception in terms of people living in
- 5:43diaspora and people having second hand information, and
- 5:48then just running with it. I understand in this situation,
- 5:52his friend was venting to him about what the wife did to him,
- 5:57and he was just relieved. Exactly what he heard which is
- 6:02fine, but people commenting on that, you know.
- 6:06Running with that exact statement, not understanding the
- 6:10full picture. The reason why I want to talk
- 6:12about this is because there are so many I've seen so many
- 6:15situations. I have seen in friends both male
- 6:18and female getting into a relationship or getting two
- 6:21marriages without first of all discussing how their careers are
- 6:25going to affect their marriages or their careers are going to
- 6:28affect the relationship. Ship or how they're going to put
- 6:32finances together to build together.
- 6:35I mean, nobody talked about building together especially if
- 6:40you marry a Nigerian man, regardless of the ideas that you
- 6:43have, regardless of the qualification.
- 6:47Even if you have more sense than him, there's this kind of
- 6:52underlying tone of being submissive to your husband.
- 6:56Regardless of what he's saying regardless of his Voices,
- 7:01Financial investment choices, regardless of, you know, you
- 7:05been having the upper hand, you know, it's just like saying I'm
- 7:09an investment banker married to why is the construction worker?
- 7:15And that person things, you know, I can because you are the
- 7:20wife, you don't have to give me advice in terms of how to invest
- 7:24my money. But that woman has the
- 7:26qualification, the skill, the knowledge and The technical
- 7:30know-how on how to kind of move that marriage or relationship
- 7:36forward but just because she is a woman, people tend to just
- 7:43think you know just be submissive whatever your husband
- 7:48wants to do just supports that person.
- 7:51This is one of the reasons why especially women in diaspora
- 7:55marriages in diaspora have issues.
- 7:58I know of a lady. Her husband, she's married with
- 8:03Children and she wanted to make investment.
- 8:06And the husband was like, no, no, no.
- 8:09All my investments will have guaranteed through a living in
- 8:13the UK, rented, and she was saying that, listen, let us buy
- 8:19a house moving into the house and just relax and you getting
- 8:23Equity from the house. And even though mortgages are
- 8:26going to be paying, it will not be as much as go.
- 8:29Going to pay rent to some other person.
- 8:32And then I was like, no, I don't want to have any investments in
- 8:37diaspora, because once, if something happened, and then, I
- 8:42am going to leave everything for you.
- 8:44And then you're going to inherit everything bla bla bla.
- 8:48So doing man said, okay, no problem, he started making
- 8:51investments in Africa, he was investing a lot of money in
- 8:55different businesses, he even bought a house built a house in
- 8:59the village. And oh you know the usual
- 9:01shebangs and everything he did all that she was also working
- 9:05and saving her money. And what she did was when she
- 9:08had enough, she bought a house and give it to any state agency
- 9:13to manage. At some point, they moved into
- 9:17the property and he was paying because he was happy to pay
- 9:21rent, but he was not happy to buy a house and pay mortgage.
- 9:25So she moved in, she moved her family into the house, they were
- 9:28paying the state. This you do agents and
- 9:31everything was coming to the estate agents so he had no clue
- 9:35that the house. They live in him was you know
- 9:39he's the wife's house. So after you know that Cade's
- 9:45all the businesses he had in Nigeria tanked one of the houses
- 9:49somebody think he builds the housing disputed land and at the
- 9:55end of the day he lost that the businesses that he was here.
- 9:59Stayed in all of them, you know, family mismanagement and
- 10:03everything he lost he he literally lost everything.
- 10:06And now this woman invested in real estate, she had about three
- 10:12houses, she was renting because she was renting and they were
- 10:16paying her you know you know she was getting money out of this
- 10:19whole thing that she was working and at some point they had
- 10:24issues and this is somebody that she tried to advise for them to
- 10:28invest in. Properties in the UK while he
- 10:31saying that everything he was any none, he was working on any
- 10:35more money, so it was not like she was the one that was any
- 10:39more money and they were sharing the bills and, you know, taking
- 10:42care of the kids. So when the finally, you know,
- 10:45when the the whole marriage end because she bought the house in
- 10:50the company's name, so it's not even her house is the company's
- 10:54house. So she is just part of the
- 10:57shareholder in that company. The end of the day he couldn't
- 11:00even lay and claims to those properties.
- 11:04Now when the whole thing ended, this man came out and was crying
- 11:08wolf. He said, his wife was this, his
- 11:11wife was that, that this is what he did, she did to him.
- 11:15That's all she was. Their pain, their rents.
- 11:19Not knowing that the house belong to her.
- 11:22That she is very Wicked, you know, this, these are the
- 11:26issues, because there were so many things.
- 11:29So many Many instances. So many examples of situations
- 11:33whereby a man and a woman or husband and wife, in terms of,
- 11:39let's get together and invest one person will say, no, I don't
- 11:43want to invest, I just want to do my thing.
- 11:45You do your thing. In terms of, you know, opening
- 11:48joint account on person will say, no, I just want to keep
- 11:51yours. Let me keep mine.
- 11:52Although, I don't even supports the joint account idea, but, you
- 11:58know, if it's a joint account, On swear by what goes in days
- 12:02for pain or payments or bills, then that's fine.
- 12:06But you know, everybody knows how what works for them.
- 12:11So this month basically came out he was bashing his wife.
- 12:14He said, she did a whole bunch of things.
- 12:17Everybody was attacking her because they said she did him
- 12:21wrong, because at the end of the day, he lost everything that he
- 12:25invested in Nigeria and she is busy.
- 12:27Cashing out in the UK. Okay, if you looking at the
- 12:31story objectively, you realize that there is no woman or I
- 12:37don't think there's any woman that want to grow on especially
- 12:41African woman, especially Nigerian woman, where they want.
- 12:45In fact, they will take the money and give it to the husband
- 12:48to invest, so that I will not be RC vo.
- 12:50She is wandering that investment but the sensible ones when they
- 12:54try to get you to do certain things and you're saying, I
- 12:58don't want to do it because I don't want to listen to you
- 13:00because you are just the woman and the Hooman applies were,
- 13:05she's trying to advise you to do, you know, for herself and
- 13:10become successful in that, right?
- 13:12Do we really have any justification to kind of bash
- 13:19that person for taking the initiative to invest in herself,
- 13:25taking the initiative to do things?
- 13:27That even though she's advising our partner to do, he is not
- 13:32agreeing to do those things. Do we really blame them like
- 13:36this story? Now, the one that the man shared
- 13:39on Facebook, where he was blaming the imported wife saying
- 13:44that, oh my God, you know, she he did everything for her, he
- 13:48brought her from Nigeria to the to Europe and all she could pay
- 13:52him back with is to have multiple investments in Nigeria
- 13:56and him not having anything. Let's say this separate another
- 14:01point in time. She also spent all that money,
- 14:05he will be happy that they're both broke.
- 14:08He won't have any issue. Eve, they are both on the
- 14:10streets looking for who to help them heal.
- 14:14Not have any issue with that. I mean, just because you're
- 14:16marrying a woman, does not mean she doesn't have any dreams just
- 14:20because you're marrying. A woman doesn't mean she
- 14:22partnered the whole life depend on you, just because you're
- 14:26getting married to her pain. Bride, price does not mean that
- 14:29she does. Is not have any gold.
- 14:32Does not have any ambition, those don't have anything that
- 14:35you want to invest in. So is it that you're working
- 14:38with that person or you're working against that person?
- 14:42And let me tell you if you decide to work against that
- 14:46person or you want to work on your own don't come out and
- 14:50start complaining when she decides to invest our money and
- 14:53this important alphabets or making great strides and making
- 14:59love. Investment that you cannot even
- 15:02to. So I think it's very important
- 15:04that people sit down, what are in a relationship, what I'm
- 15:08partnership, what? I marriages or even before
- 15:11getting into marriages. I think we all need to just sit
- 15:14down and talk about Investments and talk about future goals and
- 15:20talk about how to build together that is very necessary because
- 15:25regardless of how you want to get married in somebody's
- 15:28daughter that Person might be thinking of how to to you know,
- 15:35Butte a massive Empire. You see that you're supporting
- 15:39that dream or you're not supporting that dream.
- 15:41And if you're on the other fence of not supporting that dream,
- 15:45and she went ahead to do that, don't command Cry Wolf, because
- 15:49we are not going to pity you. We're not going to be like, oh,
- 15:53she's a bad wife or she was a bad wife or she's a bad mother
- 15:57or whichever way you want to put.
- 15:59It's or dreams or your goals or your evil career was not aligned
- 16:04or it's working together. Supporting that person makes it
- 16:11you know they carry you along and you're not shocked when they
- 16:14become very successful. While you go down the drain.
- 16:20If your wife is the most sensible one, or if your partner
- 16:23is the one that have sense, Lisi Lisi is going to help you in the
- 16:28long run. It will prevent you from using
- 16:31social media to cry and especially those are going to
- 16:35Nigeria to import wives thinking that, okay?
- 16:38If they come here that we to worship you the ground I walk on
- 16:42and anything you ask them to they're going to do it.
- 16:45These people also have dreams, these people also have goals.
- 16:49These people also have things that they want to invest in.
- 16:52So regardless of what are you give them money or not.
- 16:54They're going to do these things and what are you support them or
- 16:57not? They're going to find a way to
- 16:59Do it to anybody that has a will to do something.
- 17:02We'll find a way to get it done. So let us be guided, let us have
- 17:08sense, that's what these are sentences.
- 17:10If is your wife that has sense, falooda sense.
- 17:13If it is you that have sense if she's not even following the me.
- 17:17Yeah, you are shouting. You're the man of the house,
- 17:20become the man of the house. So let us always think ahead.
- 17:23Let us always plan ahead. That's always be mindful of the
- 17:27things that we Vest in, especially if you're in diaspora
- 17:32and go investing in Nigeria, make sure that where you are,
- 17:35you have a tangible investment that, even if the one in
- 17:39Nigeria, feel you can always fall back on something.
- 17:42So, thank you very much for watching.
- 17:43Today's episode, please like like, like and share and then
- 17:47see you same time. Bye bye.
