- 0:00Autumn burnout. Here are five ways that I can
- 0:03tell you're actually masking and actually it's burnout, but
- 0:06you're masking it. This is super interesting and
- 0:08it's a doozy. OK guys, what's going on?
- 0:13Welcome back to the Aspy world. My name is Dan.
- 0:16I have autism, ADHDOCD, and dyslexia.
- 0:19Animate weekly videos all about this.
- 0:21So if you're new around here and you want to learn more, remember
- 0:23to hit that subscribe button by clicking the notification bell
- 0:26down below. I actually might get my slogan
- 0:29printed on a T-shirt. Autism, ADHDOC, dyslexia.
- 0:31I don't know if you think that's a good idea.
- 0:32Just come and double and be like, damn, it's a good idea.
- 0:34OK, so a lot of people will be entering burnout, but they don't
- 0:41know that by masking it actually makes it worse.
- 0:43And then you'll enter a full blown.
- 0:44And this is almost particularly more difficult for females in
- 0:48the autism spectrum because females in the autism spectrum
- 0:50are masters, are masking and doing all of that stuff.
- 0:54So these five points are going to just blow your mind.
- 0:57Buckle up. This is super awesome.
- 0:58Oh, and by the way, if you're an autistic person watching this
- 1:01and you want to increase your confidence level and like build
- 1:04more energy and lower the anxiety, then I have a free
- 1:06program you can download completely for free right now.
- 1:09Just go to www.bulletproofbrain.org right
- 1:13now and download it for free. Or you can click the link in the
- 1:15description of this video or I'll link it somewhere on
- 1:18Facebook too. OK, so number one is telling
- 1:21people that you're fine even when you're truly not doing
- 1:25well. It's kind of like you could be
- 1:26dying inside. You'd be dying of crippling
- 1:28anxiety. You don't spend another second
- 1:30talking to another human being or seeing any more nonsense in
- 1:34the world. As I was like, how are you
- 1:35doing? You're like, I'm absolutely
- 1:36fine, thank you. How are you?
- 1:38Just no, this is an indication that you're burning out.
- 1:41If you're not truthfully saying how you were doing, this means
- 1:43that you're masking how you're doing.
- 1:44And if you're masking, that means you're burning out.
- 1:46OK, because masking is a survival technique and I talk
- 1:49about this in my book Autism for Adults.
- 1:51And FYI guys, if you have read it, thank you so much.
- 1:54If you haven't, you can go and get it.
- 1:55It's a bestseller. And Autism for Adults, I talk
- 1:59about how I use masking in school to cope with certain
- 2:02things, you know, especially with like trying to socialize
- 2:04with kids, especially with a lot of your kids.
- 2:05And it was so interesting that like, I realised that I would do
- 2:08this more when I was burning out because when you're burning out,
- 2:10you have less energy to expend, but you want to give the facade
- 2:14or the mask or the appearance that, hey, I've got it under
- 2:17control. And the thing about it is that
- 2:20people will be like, how are you doing?
- 2:21And you know, your whole house could be on fire, like
- 2:23everything is going wrong. And you'd be like, I'm fine
- 2:26inside. You're dying.
- 2:27And I get it. Like you're trying to not, it's
- 2:29called saving face, I think in a neurosyphical sense.
- 2:31But what I'm trying to say is that like, you know, everybody
- 2:33masks to a certain degree, neurotypical and neurodivergent.
- 2:36But what I'm trying to say here is that autistic individuals,
- 2:39especially females, are more proactive when masking things
- 2:43like this, whereas autistic males would be less productive
- 2:46and more reactive. And like, they'd try to mass,
- 2:48but then they'd react to it. They'd be angry, but like, no,
- 2:50everything's terrible. You know, they're just kind of
- 2:51like, emotionally outburst. And so it's really interesting.
- 2:54Females will probably get this. Yeah, a lot harder than it.
- 2:57And this is it. If I just called you out, if
- 2:59you're at the end of your Italian, you're fine.
- 3:01You have to give the zero thumbs up.
- 3:03I just called you out. OK.
- 3:04So #2 is agreeing to everything, to everyone.
- 3:07You could be literally like, at the end of your tether.
- 3:09And people are like, hey, we're going to get coffee after work.
- 3:12You come in your back. Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:13Julie, I'll be there. No worries.
- 3:15What are you doing? What are you on about?
- 3:16All you want to do is go home and cry in your pillow and down
- 3:19an entire bottle of wine, smash a pizza and watch every episode
- 3:23of Love Island there is on Netflix.
- 3:25That's what you want to do because you're burning out.
- 3:26You're you've used all that energy.
- 3:28You have no dopamine left. You have no energy left.
- 3:30You're just like, I am done, right.
- 3:32And then, you know, the squad from work's like, we're all
- 3:36going for cocktails. You come in and you're like,
- 3:38yeah, of course. What what are we doing here?
- 3:41I've done, I've done this to myself.
- 3:43I just all I want to do is come home and just absolutely just
- 3:45collapse. Yeah.
- 3:46Somebody says like, you know, you should really come out with
- 3:49this and grab a coffee. We're going to, we're also
- 3:50getting some sandwiches. I'm like, yeah, I'm down.
- 3:52Let's go, let's try, you know, and inside everything inside you
- 3:55is like, I don't want to do this.
- 3:56This is not me. I don't want to participate in
- 3:59this. I don't want to go there.
- 4:01And it happens. Hey, if you are interested in
- 4:03having one-on-one personal coaching by me on your autism
- 4:07and ADHD, then all you need to do is go to the link in the
- 4:09description down below. If you're watching on Instagram,
- 4:12you can just comment the word coaching and I'll DM it to you
- 4:14automatically. Or you can just go to
- 4:16theasburyworld.com/coaching and you can fill out the form and we
- 4:21can start working together. I've got lots of requests like
- 4:23this. I just wanted to put it in this
- 4:24video. OK, guys.
- 4:25And it's because you're burning out.
- 4:27It's because you're close to burning out.
- 4:29And when you're close to burning out, you kind of start losing
- 4:32the self boundaries that you implemented for yourself and
- 4:35things become more about just surviving in that moment rather
- 4:39than actually looking at the bigger picture.
- 4:40The bigger picture is you don't want to go there, you shouldn't
- 4:42go there. You want to go home, chill out,
- 4:43and do what you need to do to preserve that energy.
- 4:47OK, so #3 is coming up with more ideas for things to do even
- 4:51though your list is extensive. This is so interesting.
- 4:54Autistic individuals when they are burning out will then come
- 4:58up with more things to add to a list of burnout.
- 5:01You'd be like, oh, I've got this list of 10 things to do.
- 5:03Oh my God, I'm so burned out. And they'd be like, and I need
- 5:05to wash the car and I need to take the kids to get new
- 5:07uniforms fitted and I need to sign up for archery classes and
- 5:10I need to finish my book and I need to buy a new phone and, and
- 5:13I need to send all those papers away for you.
- 5:14Just start adding things on. What is up?
- 5:16What are we doing here? It's because it's kind of in for
- 5:20a penny in for a pound idea. When you get to the level of
- 5:23burnout where you're you're burning out and you're like
- 5:26you're you've exhausted all energies, all kind of logical
- 5:29thought process, You just start adding in things.
- 5:32Yeah, another one. Just add another one in.
- 5:33Buckaroo's done. The count's kicked back.
- 5:36Everything's all over the floor anyway.
- 5:37Just add more mess to the fire. Why not?
- 5:41And this is so funny because you should be doing the the contrary
- 5:44to this. You'll be taking things off your
- 5:46load list, but you're adding things on.
- 5:48We said that adding things on. I I know I can see you.
- 5:51I can see you doing this. You smiling behind the screen
- 5:53here. I can see you doing this.
- 5:55It's so interesting where we have so many things to do, it's
- 6:00burning us out and we add more things to that list anyway #4 is
- 6:05feeling guilty for no reason OK? When you're burnt out, all of a
- 6:09sudden you're going to start feeling guilty for stuff that's
- 6:11not even related to you. Some people be like, Oh no, I
- 6:12was riding my bike earlier through town and I fell over and
- 6:14you'd be like, Oh my God, this is so my fault.
- 6:17What are you talking about? You have nothing to do with
- 6:20person X who's a third party in this situation, riding their
- 6:23bike in town away from you and crashing it.
- 6:25But you'll feel guilty for it. You'll start feeling guilty of
- 6:27things that don't even make sense.
- 6:29So you'll be like, oh man, I feel guilty now.
- 6:34I should have spent more time with my my grandmother when she
- 6:37was alive. I should have spent more time
- 6:38with my dog. Oh my God.
- 6:39Admitting you just kind of just start feeling guilty for things
- 6:43that you shouldn't be even feeling guilty about the
- 6:46nonsensical things because what you're happening is your mind is
- 6:48so overwhelmed and overstimulated that it's burning
- 6:51out and it starts throwing out just weird negative involuntary
- 6:58things to just kind of get a hold of you.
- 7:00And I don't know why this is, it's so interesting, but it's
- 7:05also extremely detrimental. This is a good indication that
- 7:09you need to access brakes and you need to have a century
- 7:13decompression. Because when you're at this
- 7:15level, when you are adding random ass things to an already
- 7:20huge To Do List that's making you burnout and then you start
- 7:23feeling guilty for random ass stuff, it's time to take a
- 7:26break. Can we please just take a break?
- 7:29OK. And the last one, number 5 is
- 7:32you increase and it goes off the charts.
- 7:35Your RSD and RSD is the rejection sensitive dysphoria,
- 7:40which is very common in autistic and ADHD people and Audi HD,
- 7:45which people have put both together.
- 7:47We have RSD because we've been kids who grew up being wrong
- 7:50about everything. When we're adults, we always
- 7:52think of default. We're going to be wrong about
- 7:54stuff where we have this rejection sensitivity and I
- 7:55don't want to ask anything because I'm going to be wrong
- 7:57anyway. I'm going to get rejected.
- 7:58And so this goes off the charts. When you're burning out, you're
- 8:01like, you feel rejected from everything.
- 8:03You feel inadequate, you feel super inferior with everything
- 8:08and it's sucks. Like the house is on fire and
- 8:11you're telling people you're OK. No, if these are being displayed
- 8:15in your life right now, this is an indicator, A surefire
- 8:17indicator that you need to take a break right now, detach from
- 8:20it and just really take a step back.
- 8:22I actually have a how to fix burnout and three days
- 8:25challenge. If you're interested, you can go
- 8:26to theaspbworld.net right now and make sure you go to dot net
- 8:30as well because it's a different website and you can take the
- 8:32three day challenge and within three days you'll learn way more
- 8:34about handling your burnout. It's fascinating.
- 8:36Actually, it's three main points that will help you, but that's
- 8:38super interesting. Anyway, guys, any questions?
- 8:40Swap it down below. Give this video a thumbs up.
- 8:42What is going on with my hair? Peace.
