- 0:01We live in a time of incredible feats of technological progress.
- 0:07Digital technologies, quantum computing, wireless transmission
- 0:11of energy, solar power, airplane flights, Space Flight, landing
- 0:17on the moon, instant communications of audio and
- 0:21video content worldwide are things we tend to take for
- 0:25granted. Just 50 or 100 years ago,
- 0:29however, many of these technological wonders were
- 0:33considered to be fanciful or the stuff of science fiction.
- 0:38These technologies are evidence of the power of imagination and
- 0:42the power of persistent organization of mental force to
- 0:46understand and harness the powers of nature.
- 0:51We can observe that there is an ascending power of consciousness
- 0:54as we move up the evolutionary scale, such that the power of
- 0:59the logical reasoning, intellect and power such as imagination,
- 1:04intuition, creative vision have developed within mankind to a
- 1:08markedly higher degree than anything we can witness in the
- 1:13plant or animal Kingdom. We can also observe that certain
- 1:18phenomena that have historically been limited to a very rare
- 1:22group of individuals, such as clairaudience, clairvoyance,
- 1:27intuition, creativity, spiritual and psychic powers of vision,
- 1:32understanding and action, are becoming somewhat more
- 1:36widespread and at the same time are slowly gaining more
- 1:41acceptance in the scientific and intellectual community.
- 1:46Institutes have set up studies to and confirm that certain
- 1:50powers are indeed both real and able to be developed, which
- 1:55heretofore were treated with considerable skepticism.
- 2:00While there is still a considerable amount of doubt and
- 2:03confusion with regard to some of these powers, in many cases due
- 2:07to misunderstandings perpetuated in the popular media or due to a
- 2:12considerable amount of fraud surrounding some of these powers
- 2:16being active in specific individuals, there is no doubt
- 2:20and increasing awareness of both the reality and the potential
- 2:25benefits of developing these powers.
- 2:28Medical science in particular has begun to recognize that the
- 2:32power of thought can be harnessed to control computer
- 2:36input. Prosthetic limbs can be
- 2:39controlled by thought as well. Many people are now beginning to
- 2:44understand that even the dramatic development of
- 2:47technology in our external lives is the result of the unleashing
- 2:52of powers that have developed within.
- 2:55Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein both testified to the fact that
- 3:00their creativity and insights were not based solely in the
- 3:04accepted logical stepwise process of the intellect, but
- 3:08relied instead on creative vision and inspiration.
- 3:14They, among others, are recognizing that the evolution
- 3:18of consciousness is not completed and that naturally new
- 3:23powers will manifest as this process continues.
- 3:28Just as 100 years ago people could not imagine the
- 3:32possibility of humanity traveling to the moon landing
- 3:36and returning other than in fanciful science fiction
- 3:40stories, so also we must note that developing powers of
- 3:44consciousness are not easily imagined by the vast mass of
- 3:49humanity that can only see and accept what is manifest right
- 3:53before their eyes. Few are those who can envision
- 3:57the actual trajectory of the development of consciousness and
- 4:02thereby see where this development is taking us in the
- 4:06future. Sri Aurobindo writes quote.
- 4:10An evolution of innate and latent but as yet unevolved
- 4:15powers of consciousness is not considered admissible by the
- 4:19modern mind, because these exceed our present formulation
- 4:24of nature, and to our ignorant preconceptions, founded on a
- 4:28limited experience, they seem to belong to the supernatural, to
- 4:33the miraculous and occult. For they surpassed the known
- 4:37action of material energy, which is now ordinarily accepted as
- 4:42the sole cause and mode of things and the sole
- 4:45instrumentation of the world force.
- 4:49A human working of marvels by the conscious being discovering
- 4:53and developing an instrumentation of material
- 4:56forces overpassing anything that Nature has herself organized, is
- 5:01accepted as a natural fact and an almost unlimited prospect of
- 5:06our existence. An awakening, a discovery and
- 5:11instrumentation of powers of consciousness and of spiritual,
- 5:16mental, and life forces overpassing anything that nature
- 5:19or man has yet organized, is not admitted as possible.
- 5:24But there would be nothing supernatural or miraculous in
- 5:28such an evolution, except in so far as it would be a supernature
- 5:33or superior nature to that of animal or plant or material
- 5:39objects. Our mind and its powers, our use
- 5:43of reason, our mental intuition and insight, speech,
- 5:49possibilities of philosophical, scientific, aesthetic discovery
- 5:53of the truths and potencies of being, and a control of its
- 5:57forces, are an evolution that has taken place.
- 6:02Yet it would seem impossible if we took our stand on the limited
- 6:06animal consciousness and its capacities, for there is nothing
- 6:11there to warrant so prodigious a progression.
- 6:15But still there are vague initial manifestations,
- 6:19rudimentary elements or arrested possibilities in the animal, to
- 6:24which our reason and intelligence, with their or
- 6:28extraordinary developments, stand as an unimaginable journey
- 6:33from a poor and unpromising point of departure.
- 6:37The rudiments of spiritual power belong to Gnostic supernature,
- 6:42are similarly there even in our ordinary composition, but only
- 6:48occasionally and sparsely active.
- 6:51It is not irrational to suppose that at this much higher stage
- 6:56of the evolution, a similar but greater progression starting
- 7:01from these rudimentary beginnings might lead to another
- 7:05immense development and departure.
