Transcript
- 0:00Jenn: Hey everyone, welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast.
- 0:07Jenn: Today, Meggan, I want to talk about day bags and the things that you should pack into them.
- 0:16Meggan: Love that.
- 0:17Meggan: I think this is a great idea.
- 0:19Jenn: So of course this is gonna vary depending on where you're going and when and what you're doing and all of those things.
- 0:25Jenn: But there are some things that are pretty universal that you're gonna need no matter what.
- 0:31Jenn: . For the bag itself, I usually tend to just use my purse, but sometimes my husband carries a backpack, especially at Disney.
- 0:39Jenn: Or if we're gonna be away from our room for a long time or if we need like, a change of clothes or like multiple clothing options because of the weather.
- 0:48Meggan: Right.
- 0:48Jenn: Most of these things.
- 0:49Jenn: Also, once I wrote the list out, I'm like, oh, this is also what I pack in my carry on for travel day.
- 0:55Meggan: It's very universal.
- 0:57Jenn: It's so universal.
- 0:59Meggan: Yeah.
- 1:00Jenn: And we actually have a travel packing list.
- 1:03Jenn: I don't know if you guys know, but you can click on the link in our show notes and it will literally send you a list of things to pack in your carry-on and in your checked or whatever if you're not flying.
- 1:17Meggan: let us help you.
- 1:18Jenn: We got lists.
- 1:19Jenn: I love a list.
- 1:20Jenn: So here's what I have in my carry on or personal item.
- 1:26Jenn: And it is uh, camera or phone, obvious.
- 1:30Jenn: I do still use a camera.
- 1:33Jenn: We do use our phones a lot for photos, but I do also like having, we have a nice camera and I should use it.
- 1:39Meggan: Why not use it?
- 1:40Jenn: A portable charger.
- 1:43Jenn: Now, this is very important at Disney especially because you have to be on your phone a lot at Disney for looking at ride times and booking things, and mobile ordering food.
- 1:55Jenn: But especially if you're using your phone as a GPS for directions, have a portable charger and probably also a car charger for your phone would be useful.
- 2:10Meggan: Usually these days too.
- 2:11Meggan: Luckily not all vehicles, but most allow you to just use what you would use at home because they have USB ports.
- 2:19Jenn: Yes.
- 2:19Meggan: So not normally not a problem.
- 2:21Meggan: But if you are renting a car, I would suggest to maybe check on what you do need.
- 2:26Jenn: Yes.
- 2:27Jenn: Snacks I always carry.
- 2:29Meggan: Let's be serious.
- 2:30Jenn: Let's be real.
- 2:32Jenn: I always carry a snack, at least a granola bar in my.
- 2:36Jenn: because you don't wanna get hangry.
- 2:38Meggan: No.
- 2:39Jenn: Nobody likes that.
- 2:40Meggan: Nope.
- 2:41Jenn: Medication.
- 2:42Jenn: I always keep prescription medications on you just in case.
- 2:49Jenn: . What if someone breaks into your hotel room and steals your stuff or whatever, like hopefully that never happens, but just keep your prescription medications on you.
- 2:58Jenn: But I also like to travel usually with Advil and even like Imodium can come in handy cuz if you need it,
- 3:05Meggan: you never know
- 3:05Jenn: you need it and you don't wanna be going around to different pharmacies and trying to figure it out in a different country, maybe in a different language.
- 3:14Jenn: Bring it from home, I think.
- 3:15Meggan: Yes.
- 3:16Meggan: Agreed.
- 3:16Jenn: Also, first aid, like just band-aids, like have a band-aid on you or two.
- 3:23Jenn: Meggan: You never know when Well, you know, when we rented a car in Scotland, Ryan cut his finger on the car in the inside.
- 3:33Jenn: He was pulling up the parking brake.
- 3:35Jenn: It was a little like hook button, and he, the metal was turned up and he like sliced his finger open.
- 3:41Jenn: So, I've had bandaids in my bag.
- 3:44Meggan: Lovely
- 3:46Jenn: hand sanitizer.
- 3:47Jenn: In this new world.
- 3:50Jenn: I like to have a hand sanitizer, obviously have ID on you, your wallet, money, all of those important things.
- 3:58Meggan: Mm-hmm.
- 3:59Jenn: um, Weather related items, so like rain gear, hat, mittens, an extra layer, you know, depending on where you're gonna go.
- 4:08Jenn: Maybe just a little cardigan.
- 4:11Jenn: . It's nice to have those kind of things.
- 4:13Meggan: Oh, definitely.
- 4:14Jenn: And then if you're in a warm place, sunscreen is always nice to have a little travel sized and water bottle, which we talked about safe water, couple of travel tip Tuesdays back.
- 4:26Jenn: So
- 4:26Meggan: hydration is key.
- 4:28Jenn: Meggan, is there anything that you would add to this list that I haven't already?
- 4:33Meggan: Honestly, that's really comprehensive.
- 4:35Meggan: Some of those things I probably wouldn't even have with me normally, so it was a very good list.
- 4:40Jenn: Thank you.
- 4:40Meggan: But if I were to add anything for day travel, so maybe not for the airport, but like for hiking, I would maybe add some bug spray.
- 4:48Meggan: You never know.
- 4:49Meggan: And bugs can be pesky.
- 4:51Meggan: And if you're doing some like wilderness hiking you and I, not so much probably,
- 4:56Jenn: yeah,.
- 4:56Jenn: Meggan: But again, people do it.
- 4:58Jenn: So maybe like some bear spray, if that's something you can purchase where you live because once you get out there, it can be a little bit scary.
- 5:05Jenn: I know when we did Franey or Franny or however you say it, in Cape Breton, we heard like the biggest crash in the woods and we almost turned around.
- 5:13Jenn: We were both scared and like if I'd had the spray with me, I probably would've felt like much more comfortable.
- 5:20Jenn: So it is something, if you're going somewhere, you're uncertain of what's out there, it could be helpful.
- 5:25Jenn: But bugs spray in particular, you don't want to get bit by mosquitoes or other pesky little things That is true.
- 5:34Jenn: So happy travels.
