- 0:00Hello, welcome to your Daily Grace By Timothy Wilder Foundations Episode 124 Grace Alone Grace alone means Christ alone.
- 0:13One of the hardest truths for us to fully embrace is that salvation is entirely God's work. We may agree with that theologically, but living in that reality can be a different matter.
- 0:26Deep down, most of us like the idea of contributing something we understand. Effort, achievement, and earning. Grace, however, works differently.
- 0:37Over the years, I've noticed that many believers struggle not with accepting that Jesus saves, but with accepting that he saves completely. We begin our walk with gratitude for the cross.
- 0:50Yet over time, we can drift into thinking our standing with God depends on how well we're performing.
- 0:58We know we couldn't save ourselves, but we sometimes act as though it's now our job to maintain what Christ started.
- 1:06Paul addressed this very issue when he wrote, I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.
- 1:18Galatians 2:21 those words are both simple and profound. If there had been any other way for sinful people to be made right with God, Jesus would not have needed to die.
- 1:31The cross itself reminds us that human effort is not enough.
- 1:36No amount of good behavior, religious devotion, or sincere intentions could bridge the gap between a holy God and sinful humanity.
- 1:45If we could save ourselves even partially, Christ's sacrifice would have been unnecessary. The fact that Jesus willingly went to the cross tells us everything we need to know about our need and and his sufficiency.
- 2:00This is why grace alone always points us to Christ alone. The two cannot be separated. Peter boldly declared, salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 he didn't present Jesus as one option among many. He presented him as the only source of salvation to because he alone accomplished what no one else could.
- 2:30Jesus himself said, I am the way and the truth and the life.
- 2:35No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 2:38John 14:6 In a world that celebrates self sufficiency and countless paths to fulfillment, those words remain as clear as ever.
- 2:48Our hope is not found in a system, a set of rules, or a personal achievement. Our hope is found in a person.
- 2:56If I'm honest, this is where I've occasionally struggled. There have been times when I've measured my relationship with God by how well I was doing spiritually.
- 3:07Had I prayed enough, read enough scripture, served enough?
- 3:12Before long, my focus shifted from Christ's finished work to my unfinished efforts. Whenever that happens, peace is replaced by pressure.
- 3:22Yet Scripture continually calls us back to Christ's sufficiency.
- 3:27Paul reminds us that in Christ we have been made complete. Colossians 2:10 Hebrews 10:14 tells us that by his one sacrifice he has accomplished what we never could.
- 3:41Though we continue growing in our faith, our acceptance before God rests securely on what Jesus has already done.
- 3:50Understanding this changes everything. We still pursue obedience, holiness and spiritual growth, but not to earn God's love.
- 4:00We pursue those things because we already have it. We don't serve to gain acceptance. We serve because we've been accepted.
- 4:08The beauty of grace is that it leaves us with nowhere to look except Jesus.
- 4:14When we stop trying to contribute to our salvation, we discover the freedom that comes from trusting entirely in Him.
- 4:22Grace alone means Christ receives all the glory because Christ has done all the savings.
- 4:29He is not merely part of our story, he is the foundation of it from beginning to end. Our hope rests not in what we have done for him, but in what he has done for us.
- 4:41Thanks for listening. If you are being fed and or uplifted by these messages, we encourage you to like, comment, share and subscribe. These things help us spread the message of grace.
