- 0:00Speaker 1: International Correspondence with insin eye insurance, peace of mind for
- 0:04Speaker 1: New Zealand, business.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Boording away from sex in New Zealand and a sick
- 0:08Speaker 2: in Denmark hitting to the polls. Early March twenty four
- 0:11Speaker 2: is the date joining us as Gevin Gray are UK
- 0:13Speaker 2: europe correspondent.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Given this is all Trump related, isn't it?
- 0:17Speaker 3: Well, I think it is actually Ryan Yes, I mean
- 0:19Speaker 3: they didn't have to go for an election until the
- 0:21Speaker 3: end of October. Buterick Meta Frederickson, the forty eight year
- 0:25Speaker 3: old Prime minister, has called this early. Why well, because
- 0:29Speaker 3: the opinion polls hadn't been very kind to her over
- 0:32Speaker 3: the last few months. There's been pressure about rising cost
- 0:35Speaker 3: of living and also welfare pressures. It appears she may
- 0:40Speaker 3: have called the staff election because at the moment she's
- 0:42Speaker 3: now riding high in the opinion polls. Why well because
- 0:45Speaker 3: of the row over Greenland, which is part of the
- 0:48Speaker 3: Kingdom of Denmark. But of course is something that Donald
- 0:50Speaker 3: Trump covets, and not just that. Of course, we are
- 0:53Speaker 3: due to hear in the next week if Donald Trump
- 0:55Speaker 3: has sent this so called hospital ship over to Greenland.
- 0:59Speaker 3: He says, very very poor healthcare over there. The Greenland
- 1:03Speaker 3: leader hit back and said, well, actually, we have good
- 1:06Speaker 3: health care here, and what's more, it's free to all
- 1:08Speaker 3: our public, unlike America. Of course, we don't know what
- 1:11Speaker 3: this ship is. They've not actually i'd really given any
- 1:13Speaker 3: details about it. But it does come amid this rising
- 1:16Speaker 3: tension between the US and Europe, and this election that
- 1:20Speaker 3: she's called for the end of March looks like something.
- 1:23Speaker 3: At the moment the opinion pause are suggesting she's going
- 1:26Speaker 3: to win. At the moment she's in a three way coalition,
- 1:29Speaker 3: she may just have enough to get a bit less
- 1:33Speaker 3: in need of a bit less agreement.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's interesting, isn't it, Because the same thing kind of
- 1:37Speaker 1: happened with Kenada, didn't that en Carne? You know, Trump
- 1:40Speaker 1: and his trade war and the threats, and then actually
- 1:42Speaker 1: he changes the course of an election, probably to his detriment.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yes, very much. And often I think this is the
- 1:49Speaker 3: way things happen, that you know, you have one intention
- 1:53Speaker 3: at the outset, and then all of a sudden, actually
- 1:55Speaker 3: you find the opposite has happened. It certainly did happen
- 1:58Speaker 3: with Mark Carney in when he swept a Paris prime minister.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And here I think we're going to see that with
- 2:04Speaker 3: Meta Frederickson as well. If these opinion polls are right,
- 2:07Speaker 3: she is taking a gamble, but it looks like at
- 2:10Speaker 3: the moment it's a gamble that she considers to be
- 2:13Speaker 3: confident of winning.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Brilliant, Thanks so much, Kevin Gray are UK you're a correspondent.
