[upbeat music] Welcome, welcome. Full Spectrum Cycling Show 48. 48.
• 0:18
Oh, I'm not that old yet. JK Livin' doing the, uh, I don't know, was that like a Scooby-Doo dance? No. Uh- Peanuts, Peanuts... peanuts. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Peanuts dance. Yeah. Tony just made it in time. TMI.
• 0:32
Had to have dinner with the big bosses. Mm-hmm. Mm-mm. Mm. How was dinner? Pretty delicious. Um, it's not a bad brewery at all. We should check it out sometime. Which one are you speaking of? Eagle Park.
• 0:43
Where is that located? The old UFO on, um, over j- the other side of the Marsupial Bridge. Um- Oh. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Just up the street from Moda- It's Pequeno... or whatever that used to be.
• 0:55
Yeah, whatever that pizza place was. Yep. And Truckadero. Gotcha. It's, it's across the street from Truckadero. That weird little- No, not-... place... it's right up the street from Truckadero.
• 1:03
There's another brewery right there. Is there? Lakefront Brewery. Oh, yeah, yeah. [laughs] True that. Right on, right on. Understood, understood. Chilly day in the neighborhood today. Yes, it is. Yeah. Zesty.
• 1:16
I walked all the way over to Scardino's. Oh, my goodness. [laughs] What did you get, by the way? Oh, same thing I usually get, hammerhead. [clears throat] Same thing as normal.
• 1:26
Well, somebody's impatient, so let's, let's see who's on the, on the tele ringer line here today. Uh, ahoy, ahoy, caller, who do we have on the line? Uh, hello? Uh, hello? Yes. Hello. [laughs] What? Wait, wait. Good.
• 1:42
Can, I would just like to take this moment to say, first of all, Dave Lunz, fuck you for having a spoon roast tonight. And- Oh, my God, it is so good, dude... it's the greatest, it's the greatest roast in the world.
• 1:54
I mean- Did you grill it or how'd you make it? There's like half of it left and I'll probably put it down right now. Yep. How'd you prepare it? While we're online, or while we're talking- Uh- While online, ooh...
• 2:04
I'm eating it right now in front of your face. How did you prepare it? Oh, man. Can you see that? Tiny bit overcooked but, man, it's so good. How did you prepare it? Did you grill it or did you put it in the oven?
• 2:15
Um, in the oven. Oh, well, grill it next time, dude. In the oven. You didn't use a cast iron, you damn fiend. Yeah.
• 2:22
Yeah, we didn't feel like walking outside to grill it, so- A cast iron doesn't have to go outside, you fiend. Come on. Yeah. Come on. They are fantastic, man. Come on. It's my favorite roast. Yeah, it is.
• 2:32
Why, why, why is, um, why is Festival the only one that has that cut? Don't know. It's kinda their thing. Festival? Jesus H. Christ. [upbeat music] I'm telling you, JK- [laughs]... it, it is unbelievable.
• 2:44
It's a whole nother level of tasty. So Dave, don't- Come on, Dave. It's incredible... go on his side. Why are you looking at me like that? Oh. Jesus H. Christ. [laughs] God. Good call. And [laughs]...
• 2:59
[laughs] Th- thanks for calling. Next caller. [laughs] There's a bunch of vegetables too, which you wouldn't, you wouldn't be interested in, Tony, but, you know. No, you just- It's pretty damn good too...
• 3:10
puree them and then drizzle them all over it. Brussel sprouts. Oh, man, it's real good. Right on. What's happening, Dave- Yeah... besides spoon, spoon roast steak food?
• 3:21
Oh, I was hanging out at Gina's house, uh, celebrating my birthday. Oh. Oh, yeah. Way to, way to be born. Is it, is it today? It's today. It is today. It is today. It is today.
• 3:31
It's, uh- Actually, it's, uh- Actually, it was Wednesday... actually, it was two days ago. Yeah. So. It was Wednesday. We're living in the future, you see. Oh, right, right, right, right. Yeah, Wednesday. Right. Yeah.
• 3:42
So happy- Yeah... past birthday. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but yeah, other than that, just hanging out, chilling. Living the dream. Keep the- You know. Something like that... keep the gases inside, right?
• 3:56
Dr- drinking wine, eating spoon steak, you know. Dude, who are you? [laughs] What normal people do. [laughs] Ah. Ah. Yeah. So we're gonna- Yeah... we're gonna call Chuck Willey in a couple of minutes here.
• 4:09
[laughs] And corroborate- All right... this shit. And yeah. [laughs] So how was, how was your Marquette experience? I got, um... I, I told Todd, uh, the organizer of the Polar Roll he should call in.
• 4:19
Um, I don't know if he's, uh, dangling online. Not yet. But I know he had a ride, I know he had a ride going till 7:30- What's that number again?... his time, so. 717- Uh, 717-Mike- 727- 727- 2453... Mike... maybe.
• 4:37
Mike. Mike. Mike. Mike, not Mike. Come on. So yeah, he said he'd call in. I don't know if he's dangling on the line right now. Um- Not as far as I can tell, 'cause I can see everyone. I am the master. Yeah.
• 4:47
[laughs] I, I am, I am the overseer. That's right. [laughs] So, um, yeah, tell us about your Marquette experience. Oh, it was fricking awesome as always. Um, [clears throat] actually finished the race this time.
• 5:03
Um- And, and not even DFL, huh? No. No, I was, uh, they were like 35 minutes behind me. I was, uh... And I finished in nine and a half hours, so I, I had enough time outside, so, um, [laughs]
• 5:17
Chuck wasn't willing to hang around for another half hour at the last stop. They had plenty of beer. I was willing to do it, you know.
• 5:23
And the last stop was like three miles from the finish, so, you know, I was like, "I, I could hang out here and suck 'em dry of all their beer and wait till DFL comes along," but- [laughs]...
• 5:34
nah, we moseyed back into town and got about our evening. You know, it was like... [laughs] But yeah, it was a good time. Uh, trails were in great shape. Uh, weather was good.
• 5:46
16 below when we woke up in the morning, so yeah, that was fun. Oof. The wind chill was 16 below. Oh, okay. The, the ambient temperature was like, I don't know, 15 or something like that. Oh. So it was a bluster- Uh-...
• 5:59
a blustery day They said it was blustery, but it wasn't a factor? Yeah, you weren't all Chris Robin on that... yeah, well, well, we're in the woods, it wasn't a factor. Um,
• 6:11
but for some reason they put this eight mile fricking uphill in between the two trail systems, and, um, it, it came into play a few times on that when we got out in the open.
• 6:22
But otherwise, yeah, it wasn't that much of a factor. I was actually overheating in the woods, and then, um, I was, like, perfect on, uh, the snowmobile trail climb. Um- That's what he said... which-
• 6:35
He, he, that's what he just did say... when I signed up for the race, it was 30 miles all in Ishpeming, and then all of a sudden it changed and they put that climb back in it.
• 6:42
So that's just another one of Todd's little fucking sadistical [laughs] fucking tricks. Um, [laughs] you know, so suddenly that climb was back into play. So,
• 6:54
um, luckily the headwind wasn't in play the whole way 'cause, yeah, it's a brutal enough climb. You don't need a 60 mile an hour headwind on it. Oh, you could be more snarky than you would be normally. What?
• 7:07
[laughs] You could be more snarky than you would be normally. Right. On your birthday, damn it. Yes. [laughs] Yes, it's my birthday. I'll die if I want to. Way to, way to escape.
• 7:23
[laughs] I'll just- But yeah, it's a good time. Um- [laughs]... uh, good people up there, you know, a good, good trail system. Uh, trails were in prime shape. Um- Nice...
• 7:33
Mother Nature didn't, you know, screw us like that she did last year, so yeah. Well, well, let's give Chuck Willy a call to see if- No, I mean, we made it through the whole race...
• 7:43
we're gonna give Chuck a call right now. And, and none of the, the, the bears didn't come and chew up any of the signs, so we didn't get lost this year and, you know, stuff like that, you know. So it was pretty cool.
• 7:54
Very nice. Very nice. Yep, right on. We're dialing, uh, we're dialing CW right now. Hello? Hey, Chuck Willy? Hello? Chuck Willy, it's, uh- Hello. Do you kn-... Sven JK and- Oh.
• 8:08
[laughs] Do you, do you, do you have, do you have a moment, do you have a moment to hear about your Lord and Savior? Oh, we had an awesome event. It was glorious. Yeah, I, uh, yes. We even finished it here.
• 8:20
Yes, I, I, I have a Watchtower thing for you. Yeah. [laughs] Wasn't too bad? No, no. Fucking it was super fast. Trails were awesome. Uh, mechanically both bikes were good? We've already snowed a little bit.
• 8:34
Yeah, I had, uh, a little bit of chain sucks, but other than that, you know, I can't complain. Nice. Bike worked great. Yeah. Got my, got my new ICT. Good test run for that sucker. Nice.
• 8:46
Good, good thing we tuned up that rear derailleur at 10 o'clock in the evening [laughs] Friday. [laughs] Yeah. You know? Yeah, that was a plus for sure.
• 8:54
We were able to take a look at my derailleur and it's not working and we're like, "Yeah." Wow, that sounds like code. [laughs] Yeah. Girls. [laughs] Girls, girls. Oh, by the way, I brought a bike stand with me.
• 9:05
[laughs] That also sounds like code. Cool. Well... But yeah, it was a good, it was a good time. We had a blast. We, uh, we actually, uh, set the pace for ourselves this time pretty good. Nice.
• 9:16
We were more efficient than usual with our beer drinking. [laughs] Yeah. Well done. Well done. We waited till, uh, we waited till, what was it? Mile 11, I think, to finally crack a beer. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Nice.
• 9:31
So yeah. That's gotta be a record for you guys. That was, you know, that was pretty impressive. It was. Well, while, while we were staring at the hotel. [laughs] Yeah, that's right.
• 9:39
[laughs] And watching two other people drop out. Yeah. I was like, "What? What?" I just gave that guy a cookie too. I couldn't believe that, but whatever. Yeah, I should've got that cookie back. What kind of cookie?
• 9:50
[laughs] Right. What kind of cookie? Fucking quitters. Give my cookie back. But, I mean [laughs] we, we had a good time. We hit all the aid stations. Saw Timmy, Tim Kruger. Oh, right. On, right on. Yeah. Had players.
• 10:00
Yeah. Hooked us up with some brats and burgers, or brats and beers and, uh, some bacon. That was good. Nice. BBBBB. Loved that. Yeah. We, we had to put our beer on a griddle just so it was like...
• 10:10
[laughs] We, we had to put our beer on a griddle just so it, like, came down to- Thawed... like non-slushy drinking temperature. [laughs] Nice. [laughs] Did you use a cast iron skillet?
• 10:20
[laughs] Beer right on the griddle just so we could drink it. Yeah. Yeah. It's all about cast iron. But I actually made up a pound of bacon that I was handing out to people and, um, when we made it to the- Thank you.
• 10:31
Thank you... the bacon, Houghton bacon station- Thank you... they were out of bacon, and I'm like, "Wait a minute, I have some bacon." Yeah, we got our own. Yeah, we brought our own bacon. I had to pick it.
• 10:40
I had to pick it. You didn't have it in your pocket, damn it? [laughs] Yeah. In our bag. I had it in my frame bag like a true professional. Atta boy, atta boy, atta boy, atta boy. There you go.
• 10:51
[laughs] I, I think next year our goal should be to make it to the bacon station while they still have bacon. [laughs] I know, I- Yeah, I don't know if we'll ever hit it at that point...
• 10:59
I, I get, I get a slap in the face every time they don't have bacon. Damn it. Ugh. [laughs] Yeah. Somehow it all fell into place and worked out. It was a good one. Indeed. Yeah. Very good. It was a good day.
• 11:12
Yeah, weather was great. No sunshine, but otherwise it was a beautiful day. Nice. Trails were in good shape? Yeah, it was cool. But surprisingly,
• 11:19
yeah, surprisingly the snowmobile trail wasn't the full on headwind either. I mean, a little bit here and there, but- Yeah... that was a good, that, that worked out good.
• 11:26
Yeah, that was, that, that was a nice change from a couple years ago [laughs] when it was a straight headwind the whole way up that fucker. Uh-huh. For sure.
• 11:35
Yeah, I wasn't looking forward to that, but that was actually all right. Cool. Yeah. Thought it'd be a lot worse. Right on. Well, glad you guys had a good time. Um, going next year, I assume? Uh, I believe so, yeah.
• 11:49
It's one of the staples now. Yeah. Nice. Seems to be tradition these days. Like the only race I do all year except for Yeti, of course, so. [laughs] Which is coming up in a couple weeks. Yeah, PTP. Yeah.
• 12:00
Isn't that kind of like a frost bike? He, yeah, frost bike. [laughs] I'm sure it is. You're, you're competing with frost bike Well, all right. [laughs] All right, dudes. Well, thanks for the report. Absolutely.
• 12:16
Uh- Yeah, no problem. I, I gotta tap out here. I gotta get back to my birthday dinner. Oh, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Uh- Enjoy... happy birthday. Thanks for calling, guys. Thanks, buddy.
• 12:24
Make sure you don't hit your balls on the way out the door. Thank you very much. All right, Dave. Um, well, we'll, we'll be out and about Friday night and of course this weekend, so give me a holler.
• 12:34
Friday night we'll be tuning in. Cool. All right, brother. Bye. All right. Chuck, stay on the line for a second. We'll talk to you for a little bit. Okay. We just, uh, we just bid, bid Dave adieu. [laughs] Birthday Dave.
• 12:46
Mi- Mike's in rare form over there today with the... So yeah, yeah. Good. Thanks for calling in.
• 12:52
Um, Dave, Dave, uh, filled us in a little bit with what you guys did, but, uh, how, how was the thing from your perspective- Mm-hmm... uh, for the overall event? Oh, I love it. I love going up there. It's a good time.
• 13:06
Food, the beer, the whole adventure in itself, you know, just trying to finish is everything. Uh, to me, to us I think, you know? Nice.
• 13:15
It's not like we're trying to win anything really, just, you know, stay upright and have fun, you know? Just- Endure the race... ride, ride, ride the track. Yeah.
• 13:26
[laughs] I, I, I- You know, a friend says so much slower... I, no, I just, I just wanna ride the track Yeah, very good. That too.
• 13:33
[laughs] Yeah, that's what draw, drew us up there was just, you know, they've got groomed trails. Back when we started going, what was it?
• 13:40
Five, six years ago now, I think, um, the groomed trails was unheard of, and they had, you know, berm turns and whatnot, and we're just like- Nice... "Shit, yeah, let's get up there and check that out," and yeah.
• 13:52
As soon as we got up there we were just like, "Holy crap, this is where it's at." And it's, you know, evolved quite a bit since then, of course, all over, but yeah, we just keep going back up there.
• 14:02
You know, got to meet Todd, the director, and he's really cool. He rides and races, I'm sure you guys realize or know, so, um, yeah. Yeah. Da- Dave was trying to get him to call in.
• 14:12
Maybe we'll catch up with him one of these days here. Yeah. Oh, right on. Yeah, he's a good shit. I mean, he's right there with, you know, the race and everything, and I saw him at the end, gave him a big high five, and
• 14:26
told him the course was great, 'cause, you know, you never know what the conditions are gonna be like- Right... obviously with the weather and everything. And, you know, last year we did it, we didn't finish.
• 14:34
We got, like, five, six miles of hiking in- [laughs]... and that was about it. Pulled the pluck, pulled the plug after that, hit the bar, and still had fun, but yeah, we didn't do nearly as much riding.
• 14:45
What was your, uh- And then this year it turned out great... what was your mileage total this year? I think it was just under 40. Yeah, that's what I was hearing is somewhere- And, uh-...
• 14:53
38, 39 miles, something like that. That's, that's moving. That's a lot of- Yep... ground to cover- Yeah... on a fat bike.
• 14:58
Yeah, it was like, it was like 11 miles of single track, and then once you pump, jumped out of the woods, you did, like, snowmobile trail for another, I don't know, 12, 15 miles, and then
• 15:10
you jumped into more woods and single track. And yeah, and then it's a couple aid stations on the end there, which were a lot of fun and definitely helpful.
• 15:20
And then, uh, yeah, and at the end of it, the last three miles were just a blast. It was, like, downhill and a lot- Nice... of it was carrying you, where most of it was uphill- A nice one Very cool. Very cool...
• 15:30
you know, throughout the race. Well, you gotta get the reward at some point. [laughs] Exactly. Yeah, they... It was a good, good course. Like, so that's what I told Todd when I saw him at the end.
• 15:41
I'm like, "Damn, dude, you guys did a great job with this one." You know, it was similar to one that we did, I think it was in o- in 2014, um, or no, '16. Yeah.
• 15:54
'Cause the first one we did was actually from Ishpeming to Marquette, where this is uphill from Marquette to Ishpeming, so. Very cool. Good times, though.
• 16:04
I would definitely do it again, and recommend anyone that's even thinking about it to do it. Like, I was hoping Spinner would be out there this year, but apparently he's coaching wrestling now, so there's that.
• 16:13
Uh-huh, uh-huh. It is that season. All right, man. Cool. Well, thanks for the report. Absolutely. We'll catch up with you. Maybe we can hit Minooka one of these days. Oh, right. Yeah, night rides. Yep.
• 16:26
Well, they're grooming again, so there you go. Cool. Cool. Yeah, absolutely. I was out there a week or so ago with the grooming, and it's top-notch.
• 16:35
Yeah, I went to, um, Pleasant Valley a couple of times, and it's pretty decent up there by Grafton too, so got a couple- Oh, nice. Yeah, I gotta check that out... couple places to go around here.
• 16:43
I mean, it's like an 18-inch wide trail. Yeah. It's got, they got, like, the little snow dog. It's not, it's not a snowmobile. Mm-hmm. It's, it's narrower than a snowmobile groomed trail, so almost single track. Mm-hmm.
• 16:53
Pretty close. Yeah. Cool. Cool. You gotta love it. All right, man, thanks for calling. You bet. Have a good night, guys. Talk to you later. You too, man. Keep it light, man. Bye. All right. Cheers. Eh, oh, here we are.
• 17:08
[bell ringing] Top of the hill. We're at the top of the hill. Top of the hill, folks. Hmm. Since, uh, since Tony drank all the beer yesterday, he, he brought more beer today. I was here in spirit- [laughs]...
• 17:21
even if I didn't make it. [laughs] What is our show beer today? [laughs] It's the, uh, Hops Snack Juicy Pale Ale. From OSO. One of my favorite breweries. OSO. OSO Brewing. Where the heck is Plover anyway? Uh- Is that-...
• 17:34
Plover's near, um, [smacks lips] uh, it's right by... That's not gonna help. Custer. Is- But that doesn't help you either- No... 'cause Custer's as small as, as... Yeah. Is it- Um, Whitewater.
• 17:45
Oh, down that way, south of Madison kind of. No. South? Then I've got it wrong. It's not Whitewater. It's the other university up there. Well, it's- It's towards Appleton.
• 17:57
If you go to Appleton and hang a left, where are you? Um, I don't know. Middle of the state. Yeah. It's- Still in Wisconsin, though... middle of the state, though.
• 18:05
It's a, it's a- It's where the Energy Fair is every year... it's a Wisconsin beer. Neenah, Menasha? No, it's, it's... You take a left Nina Menasha You're not taking a left when you're at Appleton.
• 18:16
You're not hitting Nina Menasha. Bear Creek. Um, what's the university right there? I'm drawing a... It's not Whitewater, it's- I don't know. Stevens Point? Stevens Point. Thank you. All right. Mm-hmm.
• 18:24
So yeah, that's way central. Sure, yeah. Up by Wausau. Wausau, yep, yep. That's spelled W-A-U-S-A-U. Wausau. Wausau. Saur. You know? So this, uh, it's a... It's actually, they call it a Juicy Pale Ale. Yeah.
• 18:38
It's, uh, it does make your mouth kinda water. Yeah. It's good. 5.5 on the- It's pretty low... alcoholism. Yeah, 5.5, that's, that's pretty good. And it's dry, double dry- Dry hopped... hopped with Denali.
• 18:49
Nod to the folks in Alaska, I guess. Yep. El Dorado and Idaho 7. I, I've never heard of Idaho 7. I've not heard of Idaho- I'm gonna guess that's a new one... the previous six numbers either, so.
• 18:58
Oh, I, I know El Dorado and Denali, but I've never... Idaho 7 might be a new hybrid of some sort. We should do some research and somebody put that in the notes. Hop notes. Mm-hmm.
• 19:06
Tell us, tell us a, ed- Well- Educate us on the hop shit. Oh my God, if only w- somebody [laughs] was doing a podcast that could document the words. I think we are. [laughs] So, uh, Tony and I went to CABDA.
• 19:22
How did that? Down there last week, Thursday. I saw a couple pictures. You guys- Oh... looked like you had a good time. CABDA was, was, you know- I saw a fork... it was informative. I saw a fork in half.
• 19:32
Oh, that fork is, like... That, it, I think it defied gravity, it was so light. The Lauf Carbonara.
• 19:37
Yeah, for a fat bike fork, it was like- Oh, I just remember, like, grabbing, like, some carbon frame and, like, I felt bad when I picked it up, like I was gonna throw it- Yeah...
• 19:47
into the damn- When you're, when you're talking a-... ceiling... a five-plus inch wide tire can fit in that thing, holy shenanigans, that thing was light and beautiful. Yeah, for sure. But it, you know- Fragile...
• 20:00
I, you know, it was... This was my first CABDA, so I, I guess I'm, you know, I'm, I'm a virgin. Um, I had some things I didn't expect to see, like how many different people sold sunglasses. Oh, gosh.
• 20:12
It was, it was an interesting show from a there-wasn't-that-much-there kind of perspective. Sure. Our, our Chinese friends, none of them made it because- Yeah, because of-... they were-... Corona...
• 20:22
[laughs] they were not able to travel, so- [laughs]... the whole Chinese pavilion wasn't there. Yep. Wow. Um- That's unfortunate... and, you know, they've got three of these shows now.
• 20:30
They've got a West, this Midwest one, and then an East Coast version, and I'm just wondering how much that stresses out the companies that are trying to go to these shows. Right. Is it really more regional?
• 20:40
'Cause I'd say it was a 12th the size of a, of an Interbike Show. What, uh, w- percentage-wise, just random, how many electric bike vendors do you think there were there?
• 20:52
Um, I think there were a lot of electric bikes that were from mainstream companies, and I didn't see any of the, um, retrofit style electric stuff at all- I was disappointed... which is what I was- Yeah...
• 21:05
kind of curious about. I was... I agree with that. But there was- Was, was-... an awful lot. Every, every booth had an electric bike in, for sure. Yeah. Was Lenny there? No. [laughs] Just curious.
• 21:14
These, these would be- No, no, no- Yeah... just curious. I mean- These would... Well, his model is a lot like The House for the snowboard market. Sure. No, no, I'm just saying, I mean- He, he buys overstock.
• 21:22
You know, it, what's... He's a retailer and these are manufacturers more, or product producers. So he might've been there trying to buy bikes, but- Sure... yeah, he's a- No, no, that's a question I- Definitely a-...
• 21:35
I pose... I, I will say, I liked the Dahon. The fold- Yeah... yeah. We, they had- The different folding bikes, Dahon made... like, early production or prototype Dahons. Yep.
• 21:43
Those were both- Those were pretty interesting, that, that I like the idea of a battery pack in the gigantic seat post. That was pretty cool. I mean- Mm-hmm... that's a, that's a neat way to get a- Ginormous...
• 21:51
pretty good balance of weight and, um, and they had a... It was like, what? You could fit, like, four batteries per in that size maybe. Yeah, easily. Yeah.
• 22:01
Yeah, 18650s, they could easily- Yeah, so they stack them and do them in- Yeah... a bundle of four or six maybe. Stack them, rack them, and wreck them.
• 22:08
[laughs] You know, and the charging port on the top under the seat so it stays dry. Little hot off battery. Yeah, out, out of the ele- Mm... yeah, out of the elements, and, and I think that's a pretty neat idea.
• 22:18
Um, they had some kind of ridiculous electric bikes, and I guess what I would say in my opinion, and- I, yeah, it was- You know, some kinda cheap ones...
• 22:26
since I'm not really looking to stock electric bikes yet, I wasn't really kind of paying attention as much to those things- Yeah...
• 22:32
because there was a bunch of interesting off-brand kind of electric bikes that were- Oh... completely crazy-looking. [laughs] But, uh- Yeah, there were. Yeah, there, there was some strange stuff there. Yeah, yeah.
• 22:42
There was a- That's-... pretty distinct lack of fat bikes there, unless they were just- So-... used as props for something else. Like- Right. Right. It's just a fad, dude.
• 22:50
That's what, that's what I wrote down on the sheet. Ah. Maybe it was just a fad. Fad. [laughs] It's just a fad. So yeah, there were, I think, I mean, besides [laughs] I saw Gomez had a picture of the KHS fat bike.
• 22:59
I'm like, I didn't even, don't even know if I noticed that one, but yeah, there was a distinct lack of most fat bike stuff. You know, and there, there were some tires. There were some tires. Rubbers. We saw that.
• 23:12
Um- You saw the rubber? Uh- Tony made, Tony and I made a purchase. Yes, we did. Oh. Tony's got his mounted on his bike already. A rubber? Uh, it, it probably has some rubber in it. Yeah. It is a- Oh, I'm sorry.
• 23:24
I haven't been, uh-... it's a physio saddle... a physio saddle, and, and I, I'm... [smacks lips] I love it. I'm not gonna lie. [laughs] I've only got, I've only got a f- you know, I've got a few miles out on my fat bike.
• 23:35
It, um, you, you kinda gotta touch it and feel it, and I'm sure they're gonna change it, but, uh, the, I can only say grippy. Yeah. When I even got on the...
• 23:45
'Cause they had one mounted on a, a s- a, a trainer so you could test the saddle out, and it was hard to get my leg over it 'cause it- Yeah... my pants got stuck [laughs] on it. It's, it's- It's very sticky...
• 23:55
almost like Velcro. Yeah, kind of. But- Sticky? Yeah. Uh, but no, it, it, the way th- this guy is a, he's a physical therapist, and he designed this saddle.
• 24:06
Um, I will say one thing really annoys the crap [laughs] out of me out of it, and I'm sure I'll get used to it, and that is that-
• 24:12
When you pick your bike up and you grab it by the saddle, it feels like the saddle's not locked into the seat post, but it's actually the saddle itself that has a little play in it. Oh, in the rails?
• 24:22
So I kept re-tightening my seat post thinking, "Oh, it's loose." And it's not. It's, it's- It's the rails in the shell... the rails in the shell. Yeah. Um, but when you sit on it, it's... He's onto something. Sticky?
• 24:35
It is really comfortable. It's, it's inverted. The saddle kinda... You know, all saddles generally go like this. Like, you can't see this on, on radio, land people, but, um- Like this... they, it, it's, it's...
• 24:46
He called it what? It was like a ball sitting on a ball. You can't do that. Um, and it- [laughs]... it's... You, you sit into it, and it kinda, it grips you really well. I think he's gotta make a slippery version.
• 24:58
Think about your bum. He's gotta make a slippery version. Think about your bum, and think a- And then it'll be great... bout your bum in inverse. And- Yeah. That's a good way to look at it... that's what he did.
• 25:09
I, I mean, I, I can't see using it as a mountain bike or any kind of bike s- that you have to get off of, um- Right. Although I did tonight riding it up the switchback, uh- [laughs]... because it was kinda icy and stuff.
• 25:19
A few times I had to get up to, to crank and stuff and, you know, it, it's doable. Yeah. Um, I'm wearing jeans, and it, it... I was able to get out of it pretty quickly.
• 25:28
I sent a note to our buddy David to see if he can wrap that rascal with his, uh, vinyl wrapping and- I think that would be really cool... get it a little more, get it a little more slippery. You know? Yeah.
• 25:38
And, and I, I'm, I'm thinking it's gonna be, you know, it's gonna be a competitor to Selle. That's what I think. Interesting. 'Cause I really like my Selles for long distance riding, and I could really see,
• 25:51
you know, like, it... You know, it's gonna be... We have to... All the listeners have to wait until July when I ride it in the Riverwest 24. But I'm sure I'll be talking about it until then, too.
• 26:01
But I think when I'm sitting in the- Well, if you started now-... chair for like 15 hours-... of course you are... I think it's gonna be really where it's gonna show its, uh, its prowess. Cool.
• 26:08
Well, I'm gonna get mine mounted up as soon as I can de-slipify it a little bit. Yep. Um- I still can, like, swap out my, uh, Bianchi from my road bike and put it on. There's a... To tease there. Oh, the saddle?
• 26:27
Yeah. [laughs] Might do that. Uh, one, a- another thing that's coming that I was, uh, really happy to see was Old Man Mountain is back- Yeah... with racks. In theory, they're sending us ones for testing purposes. Yeah.
• 26:43
They're- Did, did a lot of nice upgrades to 'em. They really have, besides had okay hot dogs, they had, um- [laughs] Yeah, Robert Axel Project and- Yeah, they-... and Old Man Mountain had the hot dogs...
• 26:54
those, the mounts they had that you could buy that could mount basically a rack to any bike. Yep. That was a really cool design, really cool design.
• 27:02
Um, and Old Man Mountain racks looked great on everything they showed it on. There's one right there on the stand. Look at that. See how that fender goes right underneath there, too? That's, like, beautiful.
• 27:11
It's perfect. It's like it was made for it. And I just gotta drill a hole in the fender to bolt it- Or just zip tie it through... right to the rack. Yeah. I'm just gonna bolt it right to the rack.
• 27:18
Ooh, that's a good idea. I like that. Yep. Yep. Get a flush mount bolt and- Yep. Ah, was that a Rohloff? Yes, that's a Rohloff. That's a, it's a Rohoff. Rohoff. Um- That was so much fun to ride. It's David Hassel Rohoff.
• 27:30
I like, I, I like the Thompson, the Thompson bikes that they had there. Yeah. Thompson's got a couple of, uh, titanium, a mountain bike and a gravel bike, and they're selling them as, like, a...
• 27:42
I, I, I forget what they call it, a kit? Yeah. Because it's got all the other Thompson gear with it. Yep. Like your seat post, your stem, your- Tie bars.
• 27:49
Yeah, your handlebars and stuff, all the- The tie bars were s- sexy... all the, kind of a showcase for Thompson stuff. And they're not redonkulously priced. No. I think the- They're Taiwanese, but- True.
• 28:00
But still, you know, it's titanium. They looked, I mean, they looked really good, and those tie bars, those were very nice. That, and Ortlieb. I liked the Ortlieb stuff. Oh. Got some good new stuff coming too, so.
• 28:14
Very nice. They have a backpack there that it... Yeah. I walked into their exhibit, and I'm like, my eyes went right to it. I'm like, "What is that?" [laughs] The guy's like, "Oh, that's our new..." What do you call it?
• 28:25
They have a sp... It's both a pannier and a backpack. Right. Right. And you take the pannier ends off of it, and they get stored in the backpack.
• 28:34
Um, and it had webbing that they didn't even have on it that you can use to, like, hold your helmet and stuff. Yeah, that might be my... Even though it's not made in America, it's made in Europe- America...
• 28:43
um, it still might be my next pack, 'cause that's beautiful. Right on. Well, that sounds cool. And we stopped and had a great breakfast on the way there, and an even better- At the Bristol 45 Diner...
• 28:56
yeah, yeah, Bristol 45 Diner. And then the way back, what's the name of that place that was- 75th Street... 75th Street. Something in Kenosha. That was fantastic too. Kenosha. Keno- Yeah. [laughs] Kenosha.
• 29:06
It's kind of- It's r- it's always fun when you go into a place and they ask you, you know, you're getting a beer, and they're like- Weiners... "Well, do you want a pint or a big beer?" Like, "Uh, what?"
• 29:16
They're like, "Yeah, we sell them in pints or bigger." [laughs] Oh, wow. I want bigger. Yeah. More. 22 ounce. One, yes. Well, the, and this- Imperial pint... this is right by, um, the Silver- Maybe, yeah...
• 29:27
Silver Lake- Yeah... um, trails down that way. So- Highly recommend a stop by... if you're riding the Kenosha- Service was good... S- Silver Lake Trails... beer selection was good. Yeah. Food was good. Food was good.
• 29:36
It was all good. It was all good. Yeah. Route 20 has a lot of shows. That's where, like, some shows come up, like Ratt. [laughs] Out of the cellar. Oh.
• 29:50
[laughs] And, like, it's like things that you- Out of the cellar and into Kenosha... yeah. Just saying, you know, i- if they don't make it to Milwaukee, they make it to Kenosha. Um- Highway 50 at the Brat Stop. Mm-hmm.
• 30:02
Pretty much. Yeah. Yeah. There's some cheap drink down there. That's what I'm saying. I mean, no, I'm not disparaging anything at all. I would go to the Brat Stop and cheap drink.
• 30:11
Because it's right there by the fucking White Castle. Because- Oh, you know, I'm sorry, now we're on the subject Exit 344. Exit 344 That is correct. What? [laughs] Exit 344- Now we're on the subject...
• 30:22
and then you get your white castle Rick from Teeter's last name? Oh, Nielsen, now I remember. Nielsen. I was like trying to remember that all day. Like Ken Nielsen and Rick Nielsen. Yeah. Dude, are you kidding me?
• 30:31
He gave me the best compliment of my life. I- So I used to ha- no, I used to have like super long fucking super beard, and he complimented me on it. Nice. And it was awesome. Wasn't expecting it, and he gave it to me.
• 30:50
Sweet. And I just sit with that in my pouch. There you go. I like that. So. Yeah. Very cool. Yeah. Yeah. All right, well- Yeah... thanks to Dave and Chuck Willie for calling in tonight- Yeah...
• 31:02
at the- Happy birthday, Dave... at the call-in number 717-727-2453. Happy birthday. It smells bike. It smells bike. Bike. It smells bike. It smells bike. It smells bike. Um- Any riding come up this weekend before we go?
• 31:14
There's a couple thing. There's a, a grizzly fat bike marathon and relay in Canmore, Canada. No. Right around the corner here in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is, uh, a race at the Whispering Springs Golf Club.
• 31:28
[clicks tongue] Oh, yeah, I heard about that one. Supposed to be nice.
• 31:30
And then next weekend is the one at, um, Sand Creek, which might be something to go check out 'cause that's in your, your sandy central, Central Sands area of Wisconsin. Well, the- So, yeah...
• 31:41
the, the bike and/or walk across- Bago? No, Lake Michigan. Oh. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Uh, doesn't seem to be, uh, getting, uh, any legs on this one. No, 'cause it's, there's no- 'Cause it never will fucking happen.
• 31:58
[laughs] 'Cause there's no ice. [laughs] Sorry, world. Yeah. [laughs] But it won't. Well, there you go, people. All right, everybody. Well- Sorry. Thanks for listening... come back next week- We-... if you feel like it.
