Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: International correspondence with ins and Eye Insurance, peace of mind
- 0:04Speaker 1: for New Zealand business. It has time to who the
- 0:08Speaker 1: you is, and Kate Fisher joins me. Now, good morning, Kate,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Good morning. So President Trump has confirmed he did have
- 0:14Speaker 1: a bit of an angry call with Nick Nahou.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, this was on a podcast recording that's been released today,
- 0:22Speaker 2: and he did say, I will not use the terms,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but an expletive crazy. He said he did call the
- 0:29Speaker 2: Israeli leader that in a phone call, and he said
- 0:32Speaker 2: that he was a little bit perturbed about Israel's continued
- 0:36Speaker 2: fighting with Lebanon, but he acknowledged that they do get
- 0:41Speaker 2: on well. He gets on well with his Israeli counterpart,
- 0:43Speaker 2: calling them both wartime leaders. And then Benjamin Ettania, who
- 0:48Speaker 2: has responded and said in an interview on CNBC that
- 0:53Speaker 2: sometimes he and Donald Trump have what he describes as
- 0:56Speaker 2: tactical disagreements, but that they have common goals and do
- 1:00Speaker 2: agree on the main things. But I think this shows
- 1:03Speaker 2: just how difficult the situation is. Because Donald Trump wants
- 1:06Speaker 2: to see a diplomatic end to this conflict with Iran,
- 1:10Speaker 2: but Israeli leader Benjaminettan Yahoo isn't so. Keen on that
- 1:14Speaker 2: and is pushing for more military action, and that could
- 1:17Speaker 2: mean there's a difficulty in how this all ends.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Kate primaries and several states are underway. What are the
- 1:24Speaker 1: big takeaways? What do we know so far?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think one of the most interesting things
- 1:29Speaker 2: is that one of Donald Trump's endorsed candidates did not win.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So far this election season, his endorsement has helped end
- 1:39Speaker 2: the careers of two Senators, John Cornyn of Texas, Bill
- 1:43Speaker 2: Cassidy of Louisiana, and a popular Kentucky representative, Thomas Massey
- 1:47Speaker 2: because he has supported other candidates. But in this election
- 1:52Speaker 2: for governor of Iowa, for the primary, sorry, Donald Trump
- 1:57Speaker 2: backed Randy Feinstra and he was beaten by Zach larn
- 2:01Speaker 2: And that is the first time in this election season
- 2:04Speaker 2: that a Senate, a governor, or a house race that
- 2:08Speaker 2: Donald Trump has intervened in has gone against his wishes,
- 2:12Speaker 2: which does perhaps suggest there is still some pushback within
- 2:16Speaker 2: his Republican voting base who doesn't always agree with everything
- 2:20Speaker 2: he said, because he has kind of sailed to victory
- 2:23Speaker 2: in these other races so far.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Take Sessha, thank you so much for your time this morning.
- 2:27Speaker 1: For more from early edition with Ryan Bridge. Listen live
