Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. We are nine days away from the twenty
- 0:22Speaker 1: twenty three NFL Draft. Coming up momentarily, what Scott Fitterer,
- 0:25Speaker 1: the gamp of the Panthers, had to say today, holder
- 0:28Speaker 1: of that number one pick, have they made a decision?
- 0:32Speaker 1: We'll bring that to you shortly. Also coming up, one
- 0:34Speaker 1: of the best tight ends in this draft. Where does
- 0:37Speaker 1: Luke Musgrave think he's going to go? We'll ask the
- 0:40Speaker 1: former Oregon State tight end. He'll be with us live
- 0:43Speaker 1: coming up shortly. First, however, huge news, just amazing news.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Today at a Buffalo one hundred and nine days after
- 0:50Speaker 1: suffering cardiac arrest on a field in Cincinnati, Tamar Hamlin
- 0:54Speaker 1: is not only back in the building, He's not only
- 0:55Speaker 1: back with his team, but as the Bills open up
- 0:58Speaker 1: their off season program Phase one, Damar Hamlin is cleared
- 1:02Speaker 1: to be a football player again, no limitations. He is
- 1:07Speaker 1: back as a defensive back with the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You know, first, I want to just start with just
- 1:14Speaker 2: saying I'm thankful and I'm blessed. You know, I'm blessed
- 1:18Speaker 2: to have a wonderful medical staff and a wonderful, wonderful
- 1:22Speaker 2: trainers here who treat me with the care of their children,
- 1:28Speaker 2: and that turn, their loven care just gives me confidence, faith, strength,
- 1:33Speaker 2: just all the wonderful things, you know, just to keep
- 1:36Speaker 2: going in this journey that I've been on so far.
- 1:39Speaker 2: With that being said, also, I would like to just
- 1:41Speaker 2: say how thankful I am to have wonderful coaches and
- 1:44Speaker 2: teammates here in Buffalo that just allowed me to grow mentally, physically,
- 1:49Speaker 2: spiritually each and every day so many different aspects. I
- 1:53Speaker 2: learned so many different things from from my coaches here,
- 1:56Speaker 2: my teammates here, you know, the vets here. I'm always
- 2:00Speaker 2: learning here and that's just that's a wonderful environment to
- 2:03Speaker 2: be in and to be a With that being said,
- 2:07Speaker 2: over these last few months, I've been on a journey
- 2:10Speaker 2: and I've seen, you know, some of the top professionals
- 2:13Speaker 2: across the country, and their answers to me were pretty
- 2:18Speaker 2: much all the same. They were the same, and this
- 2:22Speaker 2: event was life changing. But it's not the end of
- 2:25Speaker 2: my story. So I'm here to announce that I plan
- 2:28Speaker 2: on making a comeback to the NFL. What So, the
- 2:37Speaker 2: diagnosis of pretty much what happened to me was basically
- 2:40Speaker 2: kmmodio cordis. It's a direct blow at a specific point
- 2:45Speaker 2: in your heartbeat that causes cardiac arrest and five to
- 2:48Speaker 2: seven seconds later you fall out. And that's pretty much
- 2:52Speaker 2: what everyone's seen January second of this year. Kmmodio cordis
- 2:57Speaker 2: is the leading cause of death and youth and youth
- 3:00Speaker 2: athletes across all sports. So that's something that I personally
- 3:04Speaker 2: will be taking a step in to make a change.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And also with that being said, you know, the all
- 3:12Speaker 2: the awareness around CPR and the access to ads have
- 3:15Speaker 2: been lower in that number as well.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Just amazing, Oh, such great news about Deamar Hamblin, who
- 3:23Speaker 1: turned twenty five last month, twenty five years old. Said yes,
- 3:27Speaker 1: he did suffer commodio cordis one hundred and nine days
- 3:30Speaker 1: ago January second, on that field of Cincinnati, but he
- 3:32Speaker 1: has cleared and Brandon Bean made it clear earlier today
- 3:35Speaker 1: it wasn't just one or two or three doctors, it
- 3:38Speaker 1: wasn't a vote. Every doctor he has seen has cleared
- 3:42Speaker 1: DeMar Hamblin to return to playing football for the Bills
- 3:47Speaker 1: as they returned to their building this week. More than
- 3:49Speaker 1: this coming up a little bit later, and more on
- 3:52Speaker 1: this as well the trade of Tom Pelsero told you
- 3:54Speaker 1: about breaking news here that the Rams are on the
- 3:59Speaker 1: verge of moving Alan Robinson to the Steelers. It's not
- 4:04Speaker 1: the big creation contract last year. Alan Robinson caught only
- 4:08Speaker 1: thirty three balls last year in an injury filled season
- 4:12Speaker 1: for everyone with the Rams, but he could soon be
- 4:16Speaker 1: joining the Steelers. Tom and Mike with us now. Tom
- 4:18Speaker 1: tell us more about this one, Andrew.
- 4:22Speaker 3: If all goes well with the physical for Allan Robinson,
- 4:26Speaker 3: he is expected to become a Steeler. This just one
- 4:30Speaker 3: year after Robinson was one of the big free agent
- 4:33Speaker 3: prizes sign a five or three year deal with the
- 4:35Speaker 3: Rams were worth upwards of fifteen million dollars per year.
- 4:39Speaker 3: The fit just never really worked out for Robinson in
- 4:42Speaker 3: La and obviously the Rams are now entering a different
- 4:45Speaker 3: mode in terms of their roster. They released Bobby Wagner.
- 4:48Speaker 3: They of course trade away Jalen Ramsey. They gave permission
- 4:51Speaker 3: to Alan Robinson some time ago to seek a trade.
- 4:55Speaker 3: More recently than the Rams and Steelers have been engaged
- 4:57Speaker 3: for a couple of weeks now. The Rams gave the
- 4:59Speaker 3: Steelers permission to bring in Robinson, put him through that
- 5:03Speaker 3: physical and as long as they're comfortable with the results,
- 5:06Speaker 3: can you pick. It's going to have a new weapon.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It's Alan Robinson who is still only twenty nine years.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Old, and a couple of years ago in Chicago he
- 5:14Speaker 1: had one hundred and two catches for twelve hundred and
- 5:17Speaker 1: fifty yards. Doesn't seem that long ago, but Alan Robinson,
- 5:22Speaker 1: if you can get back to that form, it's a
- 5:24Speaker 1: huge pickup here for the Steelers. Meantime, let's get back
- 5:28Speaker 1: to the number one overall pick nine days away from
- 5:31Speaker 1: now owned by the Carolina Panthers, owned by GM Scott Fitterer,
- 5:34Speaker 1: who had his pre draft presser today.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I feel really good about going from nine to one.
- 5:40Speaker 4: I'd hate to be at nine right now. Trying to
- 5:42Speaker 4: figure this out. We have our the last kind of
- 5:45Speaker 4: group in today. We have the coaches, you know, Wednesday
- 5:48Speaker 4: and Thursday of this week, and at that point we'll
- 5:51Speaker 4: get together and kind of make that decision. But there
- 5:53Speaker 4: we've got some clarity through this process.
- 5:55Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, if there isn't
- 5:56Speaker 5: a disagreement on one quarterback or the other, is that
- 5:59Speaker 5: you you have the final say? So?
- 6:01Speaker 6: Do you have the final pick?
- 6:02Speaker 7: No?
- 6:03Speaker 4: I look at it as Frank and I will make
- 6:04Speaker 4: that to say, dec I don't anticipate that at all,
- 6:08Speaker 4: you know, I haven't yet asked him yet. But we
- 6:11Speaker 4: were laughing the other day because it's becoming clear for us,
- 6:13Speaker 4: you know, maybe a certain way that we want to go,
- 6:16Speaker 4: or you know, who may be.
- 6:18Speaker 1: They were laughing the other day, Tom, because they have
- 6:22Speaker 1: some clarity on who they're going to take in nine days.
- 6:27Speaker 3: It is two guys who both know how the movie ends,
- 6:30Speaker 3: and they just aren't sure if the other guy's seen
- 6:32Speaker 3: it yet and don't want to give any spoilers. The
- 6:34Speaker 3: feeling within the league in recent weeks has been that
- 6:38Speaker 3: in all likelihood, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is going to
- 6:42Speaker 3: be the Panthers selection.
- 6:43Speaker 8: At number one overall.
- 6:44Speaker 3: However, the Panthers committed to running a full process here
- 6:48Speaker 3: and that continues today with CJ. Stroud from Ohio State
- 6:51Speaker 3: and Will Levis from Kentucky both in Charlotte on their
- 6:55Speaker 3: thirty visits. That's part of the process the Panthers went
- 6:57Speaker 3: through again with all the top quarterback prospects going to
- 7:00Speaker 3: their pro day, meeting with them there and bringing them
- 7:03Speaker 3: in to Charlotte to go through the entire car wash.
- 7:06Speaker 8: In Bryce Young.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Outside of the size, you have one of the cleanest,
- 7:10Speaker 3: safest prospects regarded as within the league coming in there
- 7:14Speaker 3: to take over potentially as Carolina's day one starting quarterback.
- 7:18Speaker 8: At this point, Fitterer.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Said he's not said anything to Bryce Young about who
- 7:22Speaker 3: the pick is going to be. However, Young several days
- 7:25Speaker 3: ago canceled his remaining pre draft visits, a pretty clear
- 7:30Speaker 3: sign that if somehow things fall apart, worst case is
- 7:33Speaker 3: going number two to the Texans, who we also visited.
- 7:35Speaker 3: But again, feeling within the league has been Bryce Young
- 7:38Speaker 3: is going to be number one overall.
- 7:41Speaker 9: Well, what you take from today's press conference, I believe
- 7:44Speaker 9: what I did anyway, is that this spring stuff matters, right,
- 7:48Speaker 9: the pro day matters, the combine matters, the meetings matter,
- 7:51Speaker 9: And that's what Scott Fitterer said as well as Dan Morgan,
- 7:54Speaker 9: the assistant general manager today in that press conference, was Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 9: we've got the stuff on tape and we've scouted them
- 7:59Speaker 9: in person in the fall, but now it's time to
- 8:01Speaker 9: really get to know them as people, not just players.
- 8:05Speaker 9: And that's what Bryce Young really excelled in when he
- 8:07Speaker 9: had dinner with the Panthers before his pro day, as
- 8:10Speaker 9: well as meeting with them various steps along the way,
- 8:14Speaker 9: and really wowed them with what Fitterer talked about without
- 8:18Speaker 9: mentioning Young directly, obviously talking about the presence that they
- 8:22Speaker 9: have as well as the retention you give.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Them things in the meeting and you see if they can.
- 8:26Speaker 9: Spit it back to you and they're able to process it.
- 8:28Speaker 9: So Bryce Young certainly aced all of those tests along
- 8:32Speaker 9: the way and has really cemented himself as the likely
- 8:35Speaker 9: number one overall pick, even if Scott Fitterer wouldn't say
- 8:38Speaker 9: it at his press conference.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Today, but he did say that it is fun and
- 8:43Speaker 1: exciting to have the number one overall pick, and he
- 8:46Speaker 1: wouldn't want to be at nine in his words, quote
- 8:48Speaker 1: trying to figure all of this out. We are nine
- 8:51Speaker 1: days away, however, from them potentially taking Quarterback Award number
- 8:54Speaker 1: nine for what it's worth when he last played college football.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike, thank you Tom. Say right there, we
- 8:59Speaker 1: got some other news coming up. Portly, let's do a
- 9:01Speaker 1: little more though on this one. All my Rui's back
- 9:03Speaker 1: with us, Cam Wolf as well.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Camp.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Would you take away from the Scott Fitter or Dan
- 9:08Speaker 1: Morgan presser today.
- 9:10Speaker 10: Andrew, this is a franchise defining pick for the Panthers,
- 9:13Speaker 10: and they seemed convicted on their guy and talking with
- 9:16Speaker 10: people in that organization around the league, it appears it
- 9:19Speaker 10: will be Alabama's Bryce Young, but Fitterer said, hey, we're
- 9:22Speaker 10: going to take it through the rest of the week.
- 9:24Speaker 6: They're meeting with C. J.
- 9:25Speaker 10: Stroud and Will Levis today in the meeting rooms, and
- 9:28Speaker 10: then they meet with coaches and then they finalized their
- 9:30Speaker 10: decision there. But I thought it was interesting listening to
- 9:33Speaker 10: Fitterer and mentioned his time in Seattle with Dan Morgan
- 9:36Speaker 10: when they were in the front office in twenty twelve
- 9:39Speaker 10: and they took Russell Wilson in the third round. Every
- 9:42Speaker 10: time someone asked him about Bryce's Bryce Young's height or weight,
- 9:46Speaker 10: he brought up Russell Wilson as an example of why
- 9:48Speaker 10: it really doesn't matter. When someone asked him about his height,
- 9:51Speaker 10: he mentioned that, well, Russell Wilson had three passes batted
- 9:54Speaker 10: down coming out of college and Bryce Young only had two.
- 9:58Speaker 10: And Dan Morgan came in and said, look, you got
- 10:00Speaker 10: to take more than just size and account is how
- 10:02Speaker 10: he sees the field. When talking about his way, Peter
- 10:05Speaker 10: brought up that hey, Russell Wilson was two hundred and
- 10:08Speaker 10: six pounds coming out of college. Now he's two hundred
- 10:10Speaker 10: and twenty and so we and he used the term
- 10:12Speaker 10: we a few times in Bryce Young can help him nutritionally,
- 10:16Speaker 10: to help him improve that mark. And they also raved
- 10:19Speaker 10: about how genuine Bryce Young was in that meeting, and
- 10:22Speaker 10: I thought it also was interesting to hear just how
- 10:25Speaker 10: collaborative this effort's been.
- 10:27Speaker 6: He singled out Dan Morgan's assistant GM.
- 10:29Speaker 10: But also the director of scouting, Cole Spencer, and his
- 10:32Speaker 10: offensive coator Thomas Brown, is key people as far as
- 10:35Speaker 10: this decision, and so yes, like Tom and Mike mentioned,
- 10:38Speaker 10: it does seem like they know the answer, but they're
- 10:41Speaker 10: going to keep a little bit of suspense for the
- 10:43Speaker 10: NFL for maybe another week or so.
- 10:44Speaker 11: Yeah, Cam, speaking of Thomas Brown, the offensive coordinator, he's
- 10:47Speaker 11: been on the job since mid February.
- 10:50Speaker 8: Obviously, at February.
- 10:51Speaker 11: Seventeen, specifically, when he was hired, they didn't know who
- 10:54Speaker 11: their quarterback was going to be. They didn't hold the
- 10:56Speaker 11: number one pick in that regard. So I asked Brown
- 10:59Speaker 11: how they've built that offense not knowing specifically who their
- 11:02Speaker 11: quarterback is going to be And he told me they're
- 11:04Speaker 11: bringing over the Colts offense that Frank Reich was running
- 11:07Speaker 11: last year in Indianapolis and taking it down to its
- 11:10Speaker 11: bare bones. They're also taking the Rams offense that he
- 11:13Speaker 11: brings over from Los Angeles, taking it down to its
- 11:17Speaker 11: bare bones, and then they're merging the best and most
- 11:19Speaker 11: complimentary parts together in order to teach and build from there. Obviously,
- 11:24Speaker 11: they have big time firepower in the offensive meeting rooms
- 11:27Speaker 11: with Jim Caldwell and Douce Staley and Josh McCown, James
- 11:31Speaker 11: Camp and they're all collaborating putting that offense together. And
- 11:35Speaker 11: Brown told me that depending on who the quarterback is
- 11:38Speaker 11: not going to depend on their scheme, their system not
- 11:41Speaker 11: going to change that much. That might affect a play
- 11:43Speaker 11: calling eventually, who can consistently throw into those tight windows downfield,
- 11:46Speaker 11: how accurate they can be, all that sort of stuff,
- 11:49Speaker 11: But unless you have a Lamar Jackson speed or a
- 11:51Speaker 11: Kyler Murray elusiveness or a Matthew Stafford arm like he
- 11:54Speaker 11: had in Los Angeles, that can and that really can
- 11:57Speaker 11: change a scheme. They'll be similar whether it's Andy Dalton
- 12:01Speaker 11: starting Week one or that rookie quarterback, whoever that might be.
- 12:04Speaker 11: Nine days from now, they'll know who that quarterback will
- 12:06Speaker 11: be that they're sliding in there into that offense that
- 12:09Speaker 11: they're building collectively there in Carolina.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Dan will Levis and CJ. Stratus, we said earlier, are
- 12:13Speaker 1: visiting today, both visiting on the same day, which might
- 12:16Speaker 1: be a bit awkward. Fitter was asked, have you gotten
- 12:19Speaker 1: calls about trading to one? In other words, would you
- 12:21Speaker 1: trade back out? And he didn't seem inclined to do that,
- 12:25Speaker 1: but he did say that philosophically, it is his job
- 12:28Speaker 1: as a GM to always answer the phone and always
- 12:31Speaker 1: to listen, and yes the phone is wrang, but yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: that's likely not going to happen. They are on the
- 12:37Speaker 1: clock and they will make that pick in a likelihood
- 12:39Speaker 1: in nine days. All right, thank you, Omar, Thank you Cam.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Let's go back to the insiders here, Mike and Tom
- 12:44Speaker 1: and bring in the other quarterbacks. I mentioned Levis, I
- 12:47Speaker 1: mentioned Stroud, Mike, where's Hendon Hooker going?
- 12:51Speaker 9: Hendon Hooker who is currently visiting the Washington Commanders, Which
- 12:55Speaker 9: makes a lot of sense, right because it's a team
- 12:56Speaker 9: that doesn't really have certainty at the quarterback position for
- 13:00Speaker 9: the long haul. We'll visit the New York Giants, who
- 13:03Speaker 9: seemingly have certainty at the quarterback position for the long haul,
- 13:07Speaker 9: having just signed Daniel Jones to an extension. But the
- 13:10Speaker 9: Giants are doing their homework on every possible prospect, including
- 13:13Speaker 9: guys that they need more answers on, and Hooker is
- 13:16Speaker 9: one of those because he is coming back from an
- 13:19Speaker 9: acl so he's had a busy slate of visits here
- 13:23Speaker 9: as teams are trying to get as much information as
- 13:25Speaker 9: they can on his potential recovery. I'm told that actually
- 13:28Speaker 9: is going very well, so it's not like it's going
- 13:31Speaker 9: to be a red shirt year for Hendon Hooker here.
- 13:33Speaker 9: So some team at some point is going to say, look,
- 13:36Speaker 9: there's enough talent that we saw on display on the
- 13:38Speaker 9: field last fall, and we feel good enough about the
- 13:40Speaker 9: medical that we're going to take this guy, potentially in
- 13:43Speaker 9: the first round. I don't know that it's going to
- 13:45Speaker 9: be the New York Giants, but they're certainly going through
- 13:47Speaker 9: the process with Hooker and we'll bring him in tomorrow.
- 13:49Speaker 1: All right, let's transition here to the Browns, not the
- 13:52Speaker 1: team in Cleveland, but the Twins that played last year
- 13:55Speaker 1: for Illinois. We saw them both at the Senior Bowl.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Mike Sidney is a safety, Chase is a running back.
- 14:02Speaker 1: They are both very good. They're both going to be drafted.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Are they doing visits together?
- 14:08Speaker 9: Well, they're doing this one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 14:11Speaker 8: They are visiting.
- 14:11Speaker 9: And keep Tom on the screen because earlier I ran
- 14:14Speaker 9: my first version of this tweet that I was going
- 14:17Speaker 9: to put out by Tom and Ian and Tom red
- 14:19Speaker 9: flag that he said that too much thought into it.
- 14:21Speaker 9: I was going to tweet that the Buccaneers previously drafted
- 14:25Speaker 9: a player who was a twin and it worked out
- 14:28Speaker 9: pretty well. And then Rappaport, by the way, said, who
- 14:30Speaker 9: are you talking about?
- 14:32Speaker 8: Let's talk about Ronda Barber.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Well, I'm sorry.
- 14:37Speaker 8: I figured it out, but it was a thinker. It
- 14:39Speaker 8: was a thinker. Yeahunds like this Twitter, it's.
- 14:43Speaker 1: You clear your tweets with them.
- 14:46Speaker 9: Sometimes, like if I'm typing it up and I'm trying
- 14:48Speaker 9: to make it more exciting, right or make it funny
- 14:51Speaker 9: or just you know. But Tom was like, aren't going
- 14:54Speaker 9: to think about it?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Punch up the writing rights?
- 14:57Speaker 9: Like, no, you got to think about it.
- 14:59Speaker 8: It's Twitter.
- 14:59Speaker 9: There's no thinking on Twitter, and I was like, you
- 15:01Speaker 9: know what, that's a good point. Anyway, Sidney Brown and
- 15:04Speaker 9: Chase Around both visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I'm looking
- 15:08Speaker 9: at these guys as potential Day two in the day
- 15:10Speaker 9: three picks. You know, we're going based on the projections
- 15:13Speaker 9: right now, but you're right, they are good players. Who's
- 15:16Speaker 9: going to come off the board first? Maybe Sidney, I
- 15:19Speaker 9: would say, so, we'll see what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 15:22Speaker 9: wind up thinking and if they draft themselves a twin
- 15:25Speaker 9: again in the hopes that maybe he'll make the Ring
- 15:28Speaker 9: of Honor there in the stadium in.
- 15:29Speaker 6: The Hall of Fame one day, I assue you do.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Meanwhile, in the first round, Jalen Carter, Georgia defensive linemen,
- 15:38Speaker 3: one of the fascinating prospects in this entire draft in
- 15:41Speaker 3: terms of exactly where he's going to go.
- 15:43Speaker 8: He is on a thirty visit today with the Lions.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Tomorrow will head to Atlanta for a thirty visit with
- 15:49Speaker 3: the Falcons, which means that Jalen Carter will have visited
- 15:52Speaker 3: all the teams drafting between the number five pick and
- 15:55Speaker 3: the number ten pick. His agent, Drew Rosenhouse told teams
- 15:59Speaker 3: drafting lower than ten that Jalen Carter would not be
- 16:02Speaker 3: visiting him.
- 16:03Speaker 8: As Rosenhaus said, that was.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Because he's very confident that Jalen Carter is going to
- 16:08Speaker 3: go in the top ten despite some of the concerns
- 16:11Speaker 3: that teams have had with Jalen Carter that is not
- 16:14Speaker 3: limited to the car accident that took the life of
- 16:18Speaker 3: a teammate as well as a team staffer. Jalen Carter
- 16:21Speaker 3: implicated by police as driving another car that was at
- 16:24Speaker 3: the scene and potentially was drag racing. That was just
- 16:28Speaker 3: one more thing on the list for teams to check
- 16:30Speaker 3: out because there have been plenty of questions about Jalen
- 16:33Speaker 3: Carter in terms of his approach on and off the field.
- 16:37Speaker 3: It's a complicated type of evaluation, certainly not unique to
- 16:41Speaker 3: this draft class here, but we shall see there will
- 16:43Speaker 3: be a lot of attention, probably after only the quarterbacks.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Jalen Carter may be the biggest story in terms of
- 16:49Speaker 3: exactly when and where he ends up on April twenty seven, and.
- 16:53Speaker 1: He will be in the green room bere as you
- 16:55Speaker 1: mentioned in Kansas City nine days from now, Tom and Mike,
- 17:00Speaker 1: we thank you our NFL network insiders, and now some
- 17:03Speaker 1: horribly sad news that we got this morning about Chris Smith,
- 17:07Speaker 1: the former Brown, the former Jaguar, the former Texan, the
- 17:10Speaker 1: former Bengal, the former Raider men played eight years in
- 17:13Speaker 1: the NFL. We're reporting is dead at the age of
- 17:17Speaker 1: thirty one. It was announced by his agent, Drew Rosendas.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Don't know how and why, I don't know the details.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Played most recently for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons. Chris
- 17:27Speaker 1: Smith was thirty one years old. Here's his former teammate today, Miles.
- 17:30Speaker 7: Garrett christ one of the kindness like players and people
- 17:36Speaker 7: that I've ever met. He was willing to give a
- 17:38Speaker 7: shirt off his back for you, and he was always
- 17:41Speaker 7: a great energy and just a person that be around
- 17:45Speaker 7: in the facility outside of the facility. And no, it's
- 17:49Speaker 7: just it's just no hard knowing that you know, people
- 17:52Speaker 7: like that can just go out any time.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You remember, a couple of years ago Chris Smith lost
- 17:58Speaker 1: his partner, his girlfriend Patara, a car accident on the
- 18:01Speaker 1: side of the road in Cleveland, and now Chris Smith
- 18:04Speaker 1: has gone as well. Russell Wilson says, rip to Chris Smith,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Praying for your loved ones. Leads behind a little girl
- 18:12Speaker 1: and from his former teammate David Njoku rest in paradise.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Chris Smith, hometown hero and a brother to everyone, such
- 18:19Speaker 1: a kind soul. This is heartbreaking again. Chris Smith eight
- 18:23Speaker 1: years in the NFL, was thirty one years old.
- 18:34Speaker 8: Rice taking a shot and is able to get it
- 18:36Speaker 8: a last hint. Christ Hung thread a needle.
- 18:39Speaker 6: What strike?
- 18:41Speaker 8: Croud fires deep down to the end zone and it
- 18:43Speaker 8: is grabbing the ends up.
- 18:45Speaker 6: CJ Stroud Wow with a throw.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Yup down the middle, touch down on the rights, yung.
- 18:50Speaker 5: CJ shrestad budding, Strown on the move, looks at the
- 18:53Speaker 5: bus right on the money, crag up, cry shot off here.
- 18:57Speaker 8: This guy is good.
- 18:58Speaker 6: I'll tell you he's cut a nice arm. I'm strapped
- 19:00Speaker 6: you what he.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Loves to do.
- 19:01Speaker 8: He'll load it up and cut it. Those throws at dark.
- 19:07Speaker 1: All right. Trager's got a mock draft everybody version one point.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Oh.
- 19:11Speaker 1: He's got Bryce Young at number one.
- 19:13Speaker 6: He's got c J.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Stroud at number two. Not a stunner. But what is
- 19:16Speaker 1: interesting is he has the Colts taking Stroud at number two.
- 19:21Speaker 1: The Colts and the Texans swapping four and two and
- 19:28Speaker 1: then Tyree Wilson, not a quarterback going forward to Houston.
- 19:32Speaker 1: They take a quarterback later. We'll get to the Texans
- 19:35Speaker 1: coming up in a second here. Brian Boldinger back with me.
- 19:39Speaker 1: What do you think though of the trade, the Colts
- 19:41Speaker 1: feeling the need to go up to two and the
- 19:44Speaker 1: Texans feeling the need right there to pass on on CJ.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Stroud?
- 19:49Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I love Shrikes and you know
- 19:53Speaker 5: he's right here, and I'm just gonna give you know,
- 19:57Speaker 5: Shrikes a pop, okay, because I know how hard he
- 20:00Speaker 5: works behind the scenes, asking all the questions like a
- 20:03Speaker 5: reporter like he short. So some of this stuff definitely
- 20:07Speaker 5: has some merit. But this is also a giant crossword puzzle.
- 20:11Speaker 5: So I believe the Colts are going to take the quarterback.
- 20:14Speaker 5: I believe they may even trade. It surprises me a
- 20:18Speaker 5: little bit that they're going to trade with Houston, but
- 20:19Speaker 5: I can see we're just trade and he takes CJ.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Stroud there.
- 20:24Speaker 5: I think there's a position of need for the Texans,
- 20:26Speaker 5: and so the first move of taking Stroud number two
- 20:30Speaker 5: by the Colts makes sense.
- 20:32Speaker 6: But you know, you also, the Texans still.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Need a quarterback, so with his mock he's still able
- 20:38Speaker 5: to get will Levis, which means he knows how to
- 20:40Speaker 5: play the crossword puzzle game when you do these bocks,
- 20:44Speaker 5: so that's good. And then the Texans get Tyree Wilson,
- 20:47Speaker 5: which makes a lot of sense.
- 20:49Speaker 6: He doesn't have to go written very far from love with.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Texas down Houston to go get fitted for.
- 20:56Speaker 6: His uniform and his bucket and all that kind of stuff.
- 20:59Speaker 5: So that would help build this Texans defense, which desperately
- 21:03Speaker 5: needs some help right now.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting. It's interesting that you take Tyry Wilson
- 21:08Speaker 1: there at four. It's also interesting that Levice then gets
- 21:12Speaker 1: through the quarterback needy teams at seven and at eight,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and at twelve I'm sorry, at eleven as well, but
- 21:21Speaker 1: he has the Titans taken a different quarterback at eleven. Look,
- 21:26Speaker 1: there's a lot of moving pieces here with the quarterbacks.
- 21:28Speaker 1: He also has Anthony Richardson at five, right, so you
- 21:33Speaker 1: assigned Geno Smith and then Pete Carroll basically puts Anthony
- 21:37Speaker 1: Richardson on layaway for at least a year bolding.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Yeah, and I saw that move, and I understand what
- 21:44Speaker 6: Tray's the saying.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Quarterback in the future, let him watch Gino then Seattle
- 21:49Speaker 5: gets your quarterback.
- 21:50Speaker 6: But I'm just of the different belief.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Maybe I'm different, but talking to Pete and talking to
- 21:55Speaker 5: John Schneider last summer this year, like they really like
- 22:00Speaker 5: Geno Smith, and not just for a one year rental.
- 22:04Speaker 5: I mean they really like the way he played thirty touchdowns,
- 22:08Speaker 5: eleven receptions, the way he led him into the playoffs.
- 22:12Speaker 6: They really like Gino Smith. And look the contract. I
- 22:17Speaker 6: understand these.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Contracts can be altered or they can get out of
- 22:21Speaker 5: these deals pretty quickly if Anthony Richardson strikes Gold. I
- 22:25Speaker 5: just feel like on this rock they would pass on
- 22:29Speaker 5: Jalen Carter to take Anthony Richardson. And just understanding how
- 22:34Speaker 5: Pete wants to build a team like he's going to
- 22:37Speaker 5: build it by running the ball and strong defense, and
- 22:41Speaker 5: Jalen Carter makes that defense a whole lot stronger.
- 22:44Speaker 6: And so that's why I differ with Shreg's on that
- 22:47Speaker 6: pick at number five, to see how.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah he has Jalen Carter going six. Here do Detroit
- 22:51Speaker 1: remember Brad Holmes has two first round picks, like the
- 22:53Speaker 1: Seahawks have two first round picks. As Philly guy, here
- 22:58Speaker 1: do you buy what trigger has? And a lot of
- 23:00Speaker 1: people do as well that Howie Roseman would actually take
- 23:04Speaker 1: a running back exceptional one. Granted in Jhon Robinson at ten.
- 23:10Speaker 6: You know they're a running first team.
- 23:13Speaker 5: The talent is there to take him at ten. How
- 23:16Speaker 5: he has never done anything like this. Miles Sanders's second
- 23:19Speaker 5: round pick. Good player, had a great season last year.
- 23:22Speaker 5: He's placed in the Carolina Panthers. Now, they have always
- 23:26Speaker 5: been a running back by committee for just about you know,
- 23:30Speaker 5: since Robert Montgomery was there.
- 23:32Speaker 6: It was the last true running back that wasn't a committee.
- 23:36Speaker 5: I just don't think how he sees the value, even
- 23:41Speaker 5: if it's a.
- 23:41Speaker 6: Great running back.
- 23:42Speaker 5: I'm taking a running back at that number when his
- 23:47Speaker 5: history says just keep building the trenches.
- 23:50Speaker 6: You're never going to go wrong building the trenches.
- 23:52Speaker 5: And he's going to pass up either a good defensive
- 23:55Speaker 5: or offensive lineman to take Jon. I know they signed
- 23:58Speaker 5: the shot Penny. I understand his injury history, Boston Scott,
- 24:01Speaker 5: the guys that they have there. I just think it
- 24:04Speaker 5: would be totally out of character for Howie rogas Man.
- 24:08Speaker 5: He's done a great job in Philadelphia obviously, to take
- 24:12Speaker 5: Djon at that pick.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I know we're going to talk more about Bjon later
- 24:15Speaker 1: and look at some of the film, because this film
- 24:17Speaker 1: is just ridiculous. The words really don't do it justice.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You got to see on tape some of the moves
- 24:21Speaker 1: he makes. But when you look at like the second
- 24:23Speaker 1: half of the first round and you say to yourself, wow, Like,
- 24:26Speaker 1: imagine the Cowboys with Bjon Robinson. Imagine imagine the Bengals
- 24:30Speaker 1: at twenty eight. Sorry Joe Mixon with b Jon Robinson.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Like the possibilities of those good teams, the playoff teams
- 24:39Speaker 1: at the bottom half of the first round having a
- 24:41Speaker 1: shot at him is pretty fun. The Eagles as a
- 24:45Speaker 1: super Bowl team have a shot at him in the
- 24:47Speaker 1: top ten.
- 24:48Speaker 8: Good stuff.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Brian Boldinger, thank you, sir. Hey everybody, we are nine
- 24:53Speaker 1: days away from the twenty twenty three NFL Draft, pres
- 24:55Speaker 1: outed by Bud Like Greatness is on the clock live
- 24:58Speaker 1: April twenty seventh through the twenty nine. NFL network coverage
- 25:01Speaker 1: is presented by Verizon. Additional coverage on ABC andesp on
- 25:05Speaker 1: boot offis and streaming on NFL Plus.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Schraker's got a.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Mock draft, Chad Wryter's got a mock draft, Everyone's got
- 25:13Speaker 1: a mock draft. Let's look at Chad's mock draft two
- 25:15Speaker 1: point zero in the second round, the second round mock
- 25:19Speaker 1: drafts or a. Guys really make their money. At the
- 25:21Speaker 1: players they're getting four year contracts.
- 25:22Speaker 8: They're well paid.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I mean, the guy's picking here and doing these mock drafts.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So let's take this and let's take Schrager's mock here
- 25:32Speaker 1: and start with you, Jeff, give me a name that
- 25:35Speaker 1: isn't necessarily in the first round, but you think should be.
- 25:41Speaker 12: I'm going to go with Jalen Hyatt, the liar receiver
- 25:44Speaker 12: from the University of Tennessee, Charles Davis's favorite school, and
- 25:48Speaker 12: I'm a matter. I think he's a phenomenal player. He's
- 25:52Speaker 12: a big play waiting to happen, got great speed, but
- 25:55Speaker 12: he's also not as well rounded as some of these
- 25:57Speaker 12: other receivers in the drafts like Quinton Johnston and Jordan Addison,
- 26:01Speaker 12: Zay Flowers, and I imagine at some point the numbers
- 26:03Speaker 12: game affects him and he ends up probably dropping him
- 26:06Speaker 12: the second round. But I think he's a first round
- 26:08Speaker 12: town and I think whoever getson is going to get a.
- 26:10Speaker 6: Hell of a player.
- 26:14Speaker 10: Yeah, Jeff, I'm gonna go with Jamier Gibbs. Running back
- 26:17Speaker 10: from Alabama. And I know the NFL is in this
- 26:20Speaker 10: I hate running back phase. You can see it in
- 26:22Speaker 10: the contract values where you see some of the top
- 26:25Speaker 10: backs having someone certainty there. But I'm here to tell
- 26:27Speaker 10: you that running backs do matter, especially ones with elite
- 26:30Speaker 10: skill sets. And I talk with they scout for a
- 26:33Speaker 10: team picking in the back half of the draft this week.
- 26:36Speaker 6: And he said that he loves Gibbs.
- 26:38Speaker 10: He said, I'm a John Robinson guy, just like the
- 26:41Speaker 10: next man, but Gibbs is the modern NFL elite back.
- 26:44Speaker 6: His versatility, his fluidity.
- 26:46Speaker 10: As a chess piece in the offense. As a receiver,
- 26:49Speaker 10: he only had five hundred and thirty touches in college,
- 26:51Speaker 10: ran a four to three six forty yard dash, and
- 26:54Speaker 10: he gets a lot of Alvin Kamara comparisons, and so
- 26:57Speaker 10: you're not going to handle the ball thirty times in
- 26:59Speaker 10: the middle of the field. But that's not what teams
- 27:01Speaker 10: do with running backs these days. And so I'm looking
- 27:03Speaker 10: towards the back end of that first round and I'd
- 27:05Speaker 10: love to see a team like Buffalo.
- 27:07Speaker 6: Josh Allen has talked this week.
- 27:09Speaker 10: About being a quarterback first football player second for the
- 27:12Speaker 10: first time in his career. Gibbs would help a lot there,
- 27:15Speaker 10: and maybe in Philly with big bag Jalen Hurts taking
- 27:18Speaker 10: a little bit off of his load as well. One
- 27:20Speaker 10: of those teams that need one playmaker get them over
- 27:23Speaker 10: the top, maybe Gibbs could be the answer.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Jamiir Gibbs, Zach Sharp Maney, some of these other
- 27:27Speaker 1: guys here. Again, they're very good backs. Dejon Robinson is
- 27:31Speaker 1: just so exceptional that we're not talking about the other
- 27:33Speaker 1: backs necessarily in this class. Baldy, give me an aam
- 27:37Speaker 1: a first rounder who you don't think or a guy
- 27:40Speaker 1: that you think rather should be going in the first round,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but maybe some others do not.
- 27:44Speaker 6: I'm voter Madison, Wisconsin.
- 27:46Speaker 5: Keanu Benton, the nose tackle, defensive tackle from University Wisconsin.
- 27:51Speaker 5: You know, his size and ability and what he's done
- 27:54Speaker 5: in the Big Ten translates the NFL like he eats
- 27:57Speaker 5: double teams the way I enjoy big you know, double cheeseburgers.
- 28:01Speaker 6: I mean he does that really well.
- 28:05Speaker 5: That really means yeah, he can get to the first round.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Is he is he a three down defensive line? Can
- 28:12Speaker 5: he stay on the field on third down? Can he
- 28:14Speaker 5: push the pocket? Can he give you some interior pass rush.
- 28:18Speaker 5: There's only a couple of guys that we you know,
- 28:20Speaker 5: we talked about a whole time, you know, with Chris Jones.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Aaron Donald, you know, Javon Hargrave. I mean, there's some
- 28:27Speaker 6: elite guys that can push the pocket and do what
- 28:30Speaker 6: Kenu does.
- 28:31Speaker 5: But if he can, if he can convince a team
- 28:35Speaker 5: or team that he can be that guy on third
- 28:38Speaker 5: down so he doesn't leave the field, his value is
- 28:41Speaker 5: going to go up and he could get into the
- 28:42Speaker 5: bottom of the first round.
- 28:43Speaker 1: He didn't have any offers out of high school. He
- 28:45Speaker 1: was going to be a carpenter, and then Wisconsin SOM
- 28:49Speaker 1: gave him that scholarship. He went to Wisconsin. They also
- 28:52Speaker 1: gave him a camera when he wasn't practicing, and he
- 28:56Speaker 1: kind of became the unofficial team photographer thereon Madison as well.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So he's a man of many hats and he could
- 29:03Speaker 1: be a first.
- 29:03Speaker 6: He's a great wrestler of high school two keatu Bett.
- 29:06Speaker 8: There you go that as well.
