- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to jag Zam. I'm kind of Annie Stephens, Brian Sexton,
- 0:19Speaker 1: John Osier are with me. As it's game week, so
- 0:22Speaker 1: we've been focusing on the Miami Dolphins all week long
- 0:24Speaker 1: and that's what we'll talk about here on jags Am today,
- 0:27Speaker 1: starting off with the big thing, Number one, Off to
- 0:29Speaker 1: the races.
- 0:30Speaker 2: As we know, the.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Dolphins are a speedy, speedy team, and Doug Peterson talked
- 0:35Speaker 1: about that yesterday.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Speed speed, speed, you know, in a lot of misdirection,
- 0:41Speaker 3: a lot of motions and shifts. You know, obviously do
- 0:45Speaker 3: a great job with that in their run game as well,
- 0:48Speaker 3: and uh, you know, and it kind of can cause
- 0:53Speaker 3: you to just distort your eyes a little bit, right
- 0:55Speaker 3: and and and get off your cues and and uh
- 0:59Speaker 3: that's or some of the big plays have come, you
- 1:01Speaker 3: know for them. And obviously you know, we know Tybreek
- 1:03Speaker 3: and Waddles and guys, I mean, they just love speed
- 1:08Speaker 3: and something that we've you know, we're gonna be able
- 1:11Speaker 3: to at least try to match otherwise, you know, be
- 1:14Speaker 3: in the right position.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Brian, we always talk about how speedy, how fast that
- 1:19Speaker 1: Miami team is. But Doug talked a little bit about
- 1:22Speaker 1: just making sure the team knows they can go out
- 1:23Speaker 1: there and play with them, not just thinking, oh, they're
- 1:25Speaker 1: gonna run by us no matter what.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You have to go in there with that mentality.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Well, look, if anybody's watched them and they've been on TV,
- 1:31Speaker 4: that this is a really good team. They've won more,
- 1:33Speaker 4: they've had more winning seasons in a row at four
- 1:35Speaker 4: in a row than they've had in twenty five or
- 1:37Speaker 4: thirty years. I mean, this is a really good team
- 1:40Speaker 4: with great speed. Just to kind of back that up,
- 1:42Speaker 4: you know, they do the the speed of a play,
- 1:46Speaker 4: how fast a player ran. Of the top ten in
- 1:47Speaker 4: the NFL last year, six were Miami Dolphins, and the
- 1:51Speaker 4: way that they move and the offense sets up and
- 1:54Speaker 4: there's a lot of window dressings, but it's not that
- 1:56Speaker 4: normal window dressing. It's so fast you have to take
- 1:59Speaker 4: it serious. That I think is gonna be the story
- 2:02Speaker 4: of this game. How quickly does Ryan Nielson's defense coalesce,
- 2:06Speaker 4: you know, get back to what they do and figure
- 2:09Speaker 4: it out, because Miami will confuse you.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yeah, left to their own devices, the Dolphins will run
- 2:15Speaker 5: by you. The thing is you can't leave their own devices,
- 2:19Speaker 5: which means to me Trayvon Walker, Josh Heinz Allen, Eric
- 2:23Speaker 5: Arms said, and Devon Hamilton and the keys of this game.
- 2:25Speaker 5: I don't think you can outrun the Dolphins. I do
- 2:28Speaker 5: believe you can beat them at the line of scrimmage
- 2:30Speaker 5: because the Jaguars are built to be any team at
- 2:31Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage. It's a Jaguars strength. So how
- 2:34Speaker 5: do you combat speed?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Punch a baby, Punch them in the mouth. Absolutely big thing.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Number two are going to be playing her. The injury
- 2:41Speaker 2: reports came out yesterday. Fortunately for the Jaguars, only one.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Player on there, Daniel Thomas. He's day to day, but
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Dolphins listed thirteen players. Eleven of those are on defense,
- 2:50Speaker 1: one of which very familiar here, Jalen Ramsey, did not
- 2:53Speaker 1: participate in practice. He's been dealing with a hamstring injury
- 2:56Speaker 1: for the past couple of weeks. John, we talked a
- 2:58Speaker 1: lot about what the offense for the Jacks need to do,
- 3:01Speaker 1: but they have lost a lot of players on that
- 3:03Speaker 1: Dolphins defense to free agency and now they're playing hurt
- 3:05Speaker 1: as well. Is this an opportunity for the offense to
- 3:07Speaker 1: go out there and do something for the Jags?
- 3:08Speaker 5: Well, I think you like the Jaguars offense, after what
- 3:11Speaker 5: they've done and the way they've built with Brian Thomas
- 3:15Speaker 5: Junior or Gabe Davis Christian Kirk, you would like the
- 3:19Speaker 5: opponent us to be talking about the same thing each week,
- 3:22Speaker 5: which is what the Jaguars can do against any opponent.
- 3:25Speaker 5: A lot of the Dolphins injuries this week are veterans
- 3:28Speaker 5: rest I don't expect them to be as down as
- 3:30Speaker 5: maybe the injury report looks. Jalen Raimis is a great player.
- 3:34Speaker 5: If he plays, he can take away receiver. The magic
- 3:37Speaker 5: of this offense, supposedly is there's four or five different
- 3:40Speaker 5: receivers you can go to. I was asked a lot
- 3:43Speaker 5: this week, who do you think Jaleen will take away?
- 3:45Speaker 5: I don't care because if he takes away Christian Kirk
- 3:47Speaker 5: in this offense, there ought to be three other guys
- 3:49Speaker 5: who can.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Pick up the slack.
- 3:51Speaker 5: That's the way it's built, that's the way I ought
- 3:52Speaker 5: to play Sounder.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I'm surprised.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I kind of thought you might make a back reference
- 3:57Speaker 4: the hamstring tied to the back and we try to
- 3:59Speaker 4: have a good job of holding on it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Twenty nineteen.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I'd be stunned and listen. I don't
- 4:07Speaker 4: know because I don't follow the Dolphins close enough, but
- 4:09Speaker 4: if Jalen doesn't try to play on Sunday, I mean,
- 4:12Speaker 4: there's nobody that embraces the petty any better than Jalen Ramsey.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And despite the fact that he got traded where he
- 4:18Speaker 4: wanted to get traded, and the Super Bowl ring and
- 4:20Speaker 4: the money and now he's in Miami. I mean, if
- 4:24Speaker 4: somebody could stir it up this week, I'd love to
- 4:26Speaker 4: be in the Dolphins locker room today because today would
- 4:29Speaker 4: be the day where he'd be. He'd get all the
- 4:31Speaker 4: media around him and someone would ask one question and
- 4:34Speaker 4: then he'd just roll his eyes and take off after
- 4:37Speaker 4: them for not asking the question that he wanted them to.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Great player, but he's just one. He is just one.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Here's the other variable we don't know about this defense,
- 4:47Speaker 4: the health being won. Anthony Weaver's coming down from Baltimore.
- 4:50Speaker 4: He's a first time defensive coordinator bringing the new system
- 4:54Speaker 4: down here. They have some of the issues on their own,
- 4:56Speaker 4: so perhaps the Jaguars can take advantage of of miscommunication
- 4:59Speaker 4: and create some confusion of their.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Route their defense coordinators on both sides of the ball.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It's important to note, our final big thing today is
- 5:06Speaker 1: gonna be.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Doug or Press.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Play calling still up in the air, at least Doug's
- 5:10Speaker 1: not sharing at this point. He talks about whether that
- 5:12Speaker 1: gives them any kind of edge going into the game
- 5:14Speaker 1: against Miami.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I think if you're just looking at the offense, I
- 5:18Speaker 3: mean and studying studying that, I mean, the coordinators are
- 5:23Speaker 3: looking at personnel, They're looking at you know, formations, motions, shifts,
- 5:27Speaker 3: just like just like we do offensively. And I don't
- 5:33Speaker 3: think it's really any not a whole lot of difference.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I think, you know, pressing, I think alike, you know
- 5:40Speaker 3: a lot of a lot of times, and you know,
- 5:42Speaker 3: converse a lot of a lot of times during games.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And I just think that if you're if you're looking
- 5:50Speaker 3: at us, there's probably not a lot of a lot
- 5:52Speaker 3: of differences, Brian.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Just like the depth chart says, you know, maybe Chad
- 5:57Speaker 1: Muma or Devin Lloyd, it's gonna be Doug Peterson or
- 6:00Speaker 1: Press Taylor calling the plays on Sunday.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Doug seems to think they call plays very similarly.
- 6:06Speaker 4: What do you think when it comes to that first
- 6:08Speaker 4: question I got at the Panavita rotary this morning. I
- 6:11Speaker 4: first question, and Doug has addressed it twice now this week. John,
- 6:14Speaker 4: I think this has been the biggest non story stories
- 6:17Speaker 4: since the middle of the last season when it became
- 6:19Speaker 4: an issue. And I get why it becomes an issue
- 6:21Speaker 4: because play calling is the low hanging fruit. It's the
- 6:24Speaker 4: first thing that you can point to. I've always believed
- 6:27Speaker 4: that a good play is the one that works in
- 6:28Speaker 4: a bad play is the one that doesn't. But the
- 6:30Speaker 4: truth of the matter is is that these two guys
- 6:32Speaker 4: are so in line. Press Taylor and Doug Peterson are
- 6:37Speaker 4: of the same mind. I don't think that Press would
- 6:40Speaker 4: call the play that Doug didn't want him to call,
- 6:42Speaker 4: and I think that they go back and forth all
- 6:44Speaker 4: week long putting the plan together. I think Doug is
- 6:47Speaker 4: prep I think Press is Doug's right hand, so to speak,
- 6:50Speaker 4: and he does what Doug wants him to do because
- 6:53Speaker 4: that's the way those two guys work together. I just
- 6:56Speaker 4: don't see it as being as big as story.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Stahn's favorite story.
- 7:01Speaker 5: It starts to talk about this, It's look, the offense
- 7:07Speaker 5: wasn't significantly different last year with Press calling plays the
- 7:11Speaker 5: entire game or when they split it in twenty two.
- 7:14Speaker 5: If you remember Press called plays in the second half
- 7:17Speaker 5: and twenty two, and that's when the offense lit it up.
- 7:19Speaker 5: In twenty two, when it did light it up, I
- 7:22Speaker 5: couldn't agree more with Brian. I think it's the biggest
- 7:24Speaker 5: non issue. I think people wanted to find an excuse
- 7:29Speaker 5: last year for why the offense wasn't working. They didn't
- 7:32Speaker 5: want to see that the offensive line wasn't playing very
- 7:34Speaker 5: well at times. So it's play calling, play calling, play calling.
- 7:39Speaker 5: I'm bored with it at this point. Whoever calls plays
- 7:41Speaker 5: calls plays. If Doug thought there was a big difference,
- 7:44Speaker 5: he'd make a change.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Well, listen, the players say the same thing. It doesn't
- 7:48Speaker 4: matter what play is called. They obviously have worked all
- 7:50Speaker 4: week on situations of when they're going to use different plays.
- 7:53Speaker 4: It's about the players going out and executing, and too
- 7:56Speaker 4: often last year on offense, they couldn't execute in the
- 7:58Speaker 4: run game enough to be able to bring out the
- 8:00Speaker 4: exotic plays that everyone wants to point to. So non story.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Story, non story story.
- 8:05Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna talk about some actual storylines coming
- 8:08Speaker 1: up on JAGSAM as we look more into the Dolphins,
- 8:10Speaker 1: as we prepare for the season opener, Welcome back into Jagsam.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Did we get ready for facing off against the Miami Dolphins.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We heard some from head coach McDaniels and he's been
- 8:25Speaker 1: obviously he's a very well researched guy. He's going to
- 8:28Speaker 1: look into every team that they're facing off against. But
- 8:30Speaker 1: I always find it interesting to kind of see how
- 8:32Speaker 1: the coach that we're facing breaks.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Down the Jaguars.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So he talked a little bit about what he sees
- 8:36Speaker 1: from the Jaguars defense.
- 8:39Speaker 6: How they come off the ball, how they play with
- 8:42Speaker 6: consistent technique and fundamentals, and their relentless strain. I think
- 8:48Speaker 6: that that's pretty obvious from the minimal game tape that
- 8:54Speaker 6: we've watched. But that's something that's, you know, been a
- 8:59Speaker 6: paramount in coach Nielsen's kind of repertoire of defensive lines
- 9:05Speaker 6: and defensive fronts that he's coached in previous teams. So
- 9:09Speaker 6: very talented group that is playing hard and together. That's
- 9:13Speaker 6: what I see on.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Tape, so repertoire. I love a little references.
- 9:18Speaker 1: He's a renaissance guy, absolutely, Brian, when you hear that,
- 9:21Speaker 1: obviously we've heard that from Nielsen himself, but this will
- 9:24Speaker 1: be the first time we'll see in the game with
- 9:25Speaker 1: the Jaguars.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we've seen it though on the practice field, and
- 9:28Speaker 4: we saw it in the preseason games. The defensive line
- 9:31Speaker 4: is John alluded to during Big Things. It's the strength
- 9:34Speaker 4: of this team. There are so many guys that can
- 9:36Speaker 4: do so many things, and just the ability to mix
- 9:39Speaker 4: and match the size of Eric Armstead inside or move
- 9:42Speaker 4: him outside and bring in Trayvon Walker to put his
- 9:45Speaker 4: hand on the ground in a three technique on a
- 9:47Speaker 4: pass wrestling situation. There's so many different variables that Ryan
- 9:51Speaker 4: Nielson can unleash. And he's right. McDaniel's right. They play
- 9:55Speaker 4: with great intensity and great sense of purpose. I think
- 9:59Speaker 4: it's gonna be a of fun to watch this group
- 10:00Speaker 4: on Sunday.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yeah. I had Eric Armstead on the ozone podcast this
- 10:05Speaker 5: week tease like that professional show business, and he said, look,
- 10:12Speaker 5: we believe, and I believe me and Eric that the
- 10:16Speaker 5: game the team should should go through the defensive line.
- 10:20Speaker 5: They should be able to dominate and be the identity
- 10:23Speaker 5: of the team. He said, that's a little egotistical, but
- 10:24Speaker 5: that's how we believe, and I think in this case
- 10:27Speaker 5: he's right. If you think about this defensive line to me,
- 10:31Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence has a chance to ascend to elite status
- 10:34Speaker 5: this year. Beyond that, the position group that can be
- 10:39Speaker 5: dominant and can be considered among the league's best. To
- 10:44Speaker 5: me is this defensive line, and no better time to
- 10:47Speaker 5: prove it. This defensive line has a chance to go
- 10:49Speaker 5: disrupt a great Miami offense. But it's a Miami offense
- 10:55Speaker 5: that has been prone to being disrupted by great defenses.
- 10:59Speaker 5: That's the match up the Jaguars need and must win.
- 11:02Speaker 4: And just to play off that for a second, I mean,
- 11:03Speaker 4: Eric Armstein was a part of a unit in San
- 11:05Speaker 4: Francisco that absolutely was the heartbeat of what they did.
- 11:09Speaker 4: You knew when you played San Francisco you were gonna
- 11:11Speaker 4: have hard time scoring points and that set the tempo
- 11:14Speaker 4: for every team that played the Niners.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And if this line isn't that, I think this team's
- 11:18Speaker 5: in trouble. I mean, I think there's many many issues,
- 11:22Speaker 5: not issues with storylines for the Jaguars. If the defensive
- 11:25Speaker 5: line is that, I think they're really good. If they're
- 11:27Speaker 5: not that, then I'm not sure how the stop people.
- 11:29Speaker 1: So when we've talked about having a big year Trayvon Walker,
- 11:33Speaker 1: we always like to kind of see what other coaches
- 11:35Speaker 1: think of him. Mike Tomlin, head coached the Steelers, called
- 11:38Speaker 1: him a game wrecker, and then Mike McDaniel talked about
- 11:40Speaker 1: some of Treymon's strengths as well.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Both on running pass not just some pass, but in
- 11:47Speaker 6: run you're scared of walk making a play at the
- 11:51Speaker 6: point of attack or from you know, maybe from the
- 11:54Speaker 6: backside of the play. I think his game is kind
- 11:57Speaker 6: of just little glimpses of evolution that you know is coming.
- 12:04Speaker 6: You can tell that they're preparing to put him in
- 12:08Speaker 6: in positions to make plays and to be a primary
- 12:12Speaker 6: area of focus. So that's gonna have to be something
- 12:15Speaker 6: that each one of our offensive players along the line
- 12:19Speaker 6: of scrimmage, including tight ends and receivers, We're gonna have
- 12:22Speaker 6: to be aware of his game and what it's gonna
- 12:25Speaker 6: take several people to slow him down, for sure.
- 12:28Speaker 1: John, You've long said Trayvon's work in the run games
- 12:31Speaker 1: probably one of his strongest attributes.
- 12:33Speaker 5: And well, I think he's dominant there without having I
- 12:38Speaker 5: don't say work very hard, but you know what I'm saying,
- 12:41Speaker 5: natural dominant Naturally to me, Trayvon Walker's storyline is this
- 12:47Speaker 5: number one overall picking the draft. Everybody outside football is
- 12:51Speaker 5: going to pick what he doesn't do. Apart every coach
- 12:54Speaker 5: that watches him goes, I'd like to have one of those. Yeah, yeah, oh.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Boy, I'd like to have.
- 13:00Speaker 5: And so I think that's probably what for a couple
- 13:04Speaker 5: of years has been the case. Maybe it'll continue to
- 13:06Speaker 5: be the case. I don't know if he would be
- 13:08Speaker 5: a twenty SAT guy, but I know that every time
- 13:10Speaker 5: football people start watching him, boy I liked to that
- 13:14Speaker 5: would help if we had one of those.
- 13:16Speaker 4: I was walking through Detroit during the draft and a
- 13:19Speaker 4: Lions fan grabbed me and said, hey, thanks for taking
- 13:22Speaker 4: Trayvon Walker. Gave us Aiden Hutchinson. Great. Aiden Hutchison is
- 13:26Speaker 4: a terrific pass rusher, and it's been a really good
- 13:29Speaker 4: football player. I just I think right now we're about
- 13:32Speaker 4: to see the reason why Trayvon Walker was the number
- 13:35Speaker 4: one overall pick. Mike McDaniel eluded it. If you go
- 13:38Speaker 4: back and you listen to what he said, right, they
- 13:40Speaker 4: all knew this was coming, They all knew what he
- 13:43Speaker 4: was capable of. Nobody was surprised that Trayvon Walker was
- 13:47Speaker 4: selected as the number one overall pick No. One because
- 13:49Speaker 4: they understood his size, his length, his speed, his determination,
- 13:54Speaker 4: his mentality. It is all coming to fruition right now.
- 13:58Speaker 4: And I think this year people will say, oh, I
- 14:00Speaker 4: get it now. They were disappointed because he only had
- 14:04Speaker 4: three sacks as a rookie and as a pass rusher,
- 14:06Speaker 4: but it was never just about his rookie year. It
- 14:08Speaker 4: was about the kind of football player that he will
- 14:10Speaker 4: be in year three, four, five and on into when
- 14:14Speaker 4: they finally pay him. He's tremendous and if you didn't
- 14:17Speaker 4: see it last year, buckle up, you're gonna see.
- 14:19Speaker 5: It on Sunday.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Should be good pairing up with Josh Heinzellen as well,
- 14:23Speaker 1: So that's gonna be dangerous our finals. Soundbike from Mike.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Excuse me, Mike McDaniel. He talked a little bit about
- 14:29Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior. Obviously that was our first round draft pick,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but the Dolphins were scouting him heavily, so McDaniel says,
- 14:35Speaker 1: they're very familiar with his game.
- 14:38Speaker 6: Super talented player that has a unique combination of being
- 14:46Speaker 6: able to be down the field, you know, third level
- 14:52Speaker 6: receiver that can track and make plays down the field,
- 14:56Speaker 6: while also having a route running skills that to to
- 15:01Speaker 6: do your underneath and intermediate routes. You see a very
- 15:07Speaker 6: talented individual that can take his game as far as
- 15:10Speaker 6: he wants to take it. You know, I think it's
- 15:13Speaker 6: a adding to the pluthora of LSU Tigers out there
- 15:19Speaker 6: in the league. He's he's a very talented individual that
- 15:24Speaker 6: we won't We will be well aware of when he's
- 15:28Speaker 6: out there on the field. It won't be a surprise
- 15:30Speaker 6: because we we did a lot of work on him
- 15:32Speaker 6: coming out.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Brian Thomas has impressed us so far in the limited
- 15:36Speaker 1: amount that we've seen him.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Excited to see him in Game one.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I am, and I'll back opa right here. I mean,
- 15:41Speaker 4: this was not a player that I wanted the Daguars
- 15:43Speaker 4: to take. I wanted them to take a big guy.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I wanted them to fortify the offensive line in a
- 15:47Speaker 4: draft that was deep. But it appears I'm wrong on
- 15:51Speaker 4: that because having watched him run right just to see
- 15:55Speaker 4: this big, long frame run down the field and make
- 15:59Speaker 4: plays during the during the preseason games, I realized what
- 16:02Speaker 4: they saw in him, the ability he has to back
- 16:06Speaker 4: a defense off the line of scrimmage. How that will
- 16:08Speaker 4: open other things up. I'm very excited to watch him play.
- 16:14Speaker 4: They had a plan for him when they drafted him,
- 16:16Speaker 4: and we're going to see the first glimpses of it
- 16:17Speaker 4: on Sunday.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Yeah. I think it was Dunio Jeremiah who said during
- 16:20Speaker 5: the pre draft stuff that outside that top three, which
- 16:24Speaker 5: in the draft sometimes you get, you know, preconceived notions,
- 16:27Speaker 5: and there are gonna be three guys that are gonna
- 16:29Speaker 5: be in the top ten. But outside of that group,
- 16:31Speaker 5: this was the guy who had a chance to be
- 16:34Speaker 5: the number one wide receiver. I'm a broken record on this.
- 16:38Speaker 5: I usually expect nothing out of rookies, but during training
- 16:41Speaker 5: camp practices, in preseason practice, preseason games, he started doing
- 16:47Speaker 5: stuff that looked more like veteran stuff than a rookie.
- 16:51Speaker 5: And I don't know if that means he's going to
- 16:53Speaker 5: be consistent at it all the time in every game
- 16:55Speaker 5: the way a veteran needs to be. But I think
- 16:57Speaker 5: he's gonna show, and I think he's gonna map and
- 17:01Speaker 5: be a difference maker more than a lot of rookies
- 17:03Speaker 5: on So I think he adds to what is now
- 17:08Speaker 5: a really strong five or six headed skill group. I
- 17:13Speaker 5: think he may make this the deepest skill group maybe
- 17:17Speaker 5: it's ever had. I mean, I can't compare wide receiver
- 17:20Speaker 5: Atannants to Jimmy and Keene because that's still the elite.
- 17:22Speaker 5: But in terms of going five or six guys who
- 17:24Speaker 5: can make a difference, I don't know they've had one
- 17:26Speaker 5: like this.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Well.
- 17:27Speaker 4: I think we've said this. He has the potential. He's
- 17:29Speaker 4: that big receiver who can run, and they haven't. They've
- 17:32Speaker 4: had big receivers and they've had guys who could run
- 17:33Speaker 4: that they haven't had the combination since Jimmy, right, since
- 17:36Speaker 4: eighty two, Yeah, I mean he left siwo thousand and five,
- 17:39Speaker 4: so it's been a long time. He looks like he's
- 17:41Speaker 4: got that potential to be that big guy who can
- 17:44Speaker 4: run that this team has looked for through the years.
- 17:46Speaker 4: They've drafted a lot of receivers but haven't been able
- 17:48Speaker 4: to find it. It's high praise. He hasn't heard it yet,
- 17:51Speaker 4: but it looks like he could.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Looks good and a lot of potential of what he
- 17:55Speaker 1: can become as well. It's very exciting. Say with us
- 17:57Speaker 1: here on JAG's.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Sam will go over our game predictions to the break.
- 18:03Speaker 2: We like have a drink by the beach. I love it.
- 18:06Speaker 2: We're gonna do our best at predicting the future.
- 18:08Speaker 1: We're going to talk about what we're expecting to see
- 18:10Speaker 1: on Sunday, but instead of just giving you a score predictions,
- 18:12Speaker 1: we're going to try to predict what we think the headlines.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Will be on Monday morning after the game.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So, Brian, when you read about the game on Monday,
- 18:19Speaker 1: what are you gonna hear?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:20Speaker 4: Well, you know all all I heard yesterday and talking
- 18:22Speaker 4: to coaches and players was about the Steve and misdirection right,
- 18:25Speaker 4: and it reminded me of one of my favorite lines
- 18:27Speaker 4: from the movie Top Gun.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Where'd he go?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Where did who go?
- 18:30Speaker 3: Right?
- 18:32Speaker 4: It that's to me going to be the difference in
- 18:35Speaker 4: the game.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Where'd he go?
- 18:38Speaker 5: Right?
- 18:38Speaker 4: Where did who go? And and how did that impact
- 18:41Speaker 4: the overall play?
- 18:43Speaker 3: So?
- 18:43Speaker 4: Who went? Where? Why?
- 18:44Speaker 6: And how?
- 18:46Speaker 4: If the Jaguars are going to win this ball game,
- 18:48Speaker 4: they are going to have to be dialed in. And
- 18:50Speaker 4: I tried, tried as it could, Darnell Savage, Tyson Campbell
- 18:54Speaker 4: to get them to tell me about defending Tyreek Hill
- 18:57Speaker 4: and Jalen Waddle and the speedy running back Eye Chain,
- 19:02Speaker 4: and I couldn't get them off the mark. They were
- 19:04Speaker 4: all about do our jobs, focus on our technique. They
- 19:08Speaker 4: were clearly in the school of Nielsen, which is it
- 19:12Speaker 4: doesn't matter them. What matters is us. So but I
- 19:15Speaker 4: think the speed and the misdirection are the greatest asset
- 19:20Speaker 4: that the Dolphins have, and not having seen this defense,
- 19:23Speaker 4: John right, it's the liability that I perceive is will
- 19:27Speaker 4: they be ready for that?
- 19:29Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the storyline of the game. And I went
- 19:31Speaker 5: with speed killed. And once I said it, I realized, well,
- 19:35Speaker 5: that can go either way. I mean, if the Dolphins
- 19:37Speaker 5: are great, then speed killed. But what I think it's
- 19:40Speaker 5: going to mean is that the speed is killed, was killed.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Because as at the top of the show, my theme
- 19:46Speaker 5: that I've been pounded on all week, and I'll continue
- 19:49Speaker 5: the front four that I'm talking about, there's more than
- 19:52Speaker 5: four that Hamilton, Heinz, Allen, Walker, and Armstead. They have
- 19:55Speaker 5: to be the hammer they have to make. They have
- 19:58Speaker 5: to get penetration and disruption. Where as Bucky Brooks said yesterday,
- 20:05Speaker 5: where you bite the head of snake off and you
- 20:07Speaker 5: get to out of it, you disrupt them. Think about
- 20:10Speaker 5: the Super Bowls with the Giants be the Patriots, where
- 20:12Speaker 5: the front four just disrupted everything and you realize that, oh,
- 20:17Speaker 5: this great offense doesn't matter. If this is disrupted here,
- 20:21Speaker 5: then it then nothing else functions in the NFL. To me,
- 20:25Speaker 5: that's the Jaguars advantage in this game. Well, I shouldn't
- 20:28Speaker 5: say that that needs to be the advantage if they're
- 20:31Speaker 5: going to disrupt this offense.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I agree with you, John.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I also am going to focus a bit on the
- 20:37Speaker 1: other side of football for mine because we need to
- 20:39Speaker 1: see a hot start out of this offense. So a
- 20:41Speaker 1: hot start down south is the way that this is
- 20:43Speaker 1: going to get done.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Yeah yah, yeah, yeah, I went to journalism school too.
- 20:48Speaker 1: If you can slow down Miami's offense as much as
- 20:54Speaker 1: you can, but you are going to have to outscore them.
- 20:56Speaker 1: This is never going to be you know, ten to
- 20:58Speaker 1: nothing games. They're gonna have to find the end zone
- 21:01Speaker 1: early and often. I think Trevor Lawrence is very capable
- 21:04Speaker 1: of doing that. And I think one thing we haven't
- 21:05Speaker 1: mentioned a ton about Miami Dolphins lost a bunch of
- 21:08Speaker 1: players on defense, specifically their line, one of those big
- 21:10Speaker 1: players being Christian Wilkins.
- 21:11Speaker 2: He's not there anymore.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So if you can go in there establish the run
- 21:14Speaker 1: with Travis etn open things up for Trevor so he
- 21:16Speaker 1: can throw it around a little bit. I think they
- 21:18Speaker 1: have the opportunity to outscore them, keep it close in
- 21:21Speaker 1: the fourth quarter.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And do what you got to do.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Just an underlying theme, and it's one that I'm focused on,
- 21:26Speaker 4: is this is a big game because this is an
- 21:29Speaker 4: AFC playoff team from a year ago. They've had four
- 21:32Speaker 4: straight winning seasons. They're at the top of the charts offensively,
- 21:37Speaker 4: all the numbers right at the bottom of the chart
- 21:39Speaker 4: in terms of sacks allowed, right, So we talked about
- 21:41Speaker 4: them being disruptive. They only allowed thirty one sacks last year.
- 21:44Speaker 4: This is a really, really good team. So this is
- 21:46Speaker 4: a big game. Well, we know that Jaguars did not
- 21:48Speaker 4: play very well in the big games on their schedule
- 21:51Speaker 4: last year Kansas City, Buffalo, the Niners, the Bengals, and
- 21:54Speaker 4: the Ravens. So I'm looking at this game as let's
- 21:58Speaker 4: see Doug Peterson and Trent baal Key brought in coaches
- 22:01Speaker 4: and players to change the trajectory, to change the dynamic
- 22:04Speaker 4: in the locker room. Guys who were accomplished, who had
- 22:06Speaker 4: been there and played in big games, coached in big games.
- 22:09Speaker 4: I'm really eager to see if those things show up
- 22:13Speaker 4: on Sunday.
- 22:15Speaker 1: So many questions we're gonna find out soon, say with
- 22:17Speaker 1: us on JAGXAM one more time as we go over
- 22:19Speaker 1: what we've got coming up the rest of the week.
- 22:23Speaker 2: The linebacker nex so Foya says, Chad mom or Devin
- 22:26Speaker 2: Lloyd on the depth chart? Is there any clarity or
- 22:29Speaker 2: is that situational based.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Or usually situational? Yeah, situational based. Yeah, it's Doug Peterson
- 22:37Speaker 3: or Press Taylor.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I know you'll have a quick John, so I'm sure
- 22:42Speaker 2: you quit.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yeh. And again, I think this is the one where
- 22:48Speaker 5: everybody's all wound up over the play caller. And I
- 22:52Speaker 5: think Doug, having been around this game for thirty years,
- 22:56Speaker 5: is kind of amusing himself a little bit by not
- 23:00Speaker 5: telling anybody what's going on.
- 23:01Speaker 2: You have to have fun with it.
- 23:02Speaker 5: He uh, And he walks off the podium and he
- 23:05Speaker 5: talks to somebody who sends the door closed, and he goes.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Hey, you got got him. Yeah, we do know. Press
- 23:10Speaker 1: Taylor will be on the sideline. So if you guys
- 23:11Speaker 1: are that interested, you can just watch and try to
- 23:13Speaker 1: figure it out yourself.
- 23:14Speaker 4: I think everyone should remember that Andy Reid calls the
- 23:18Speaker 4: plays in Kansas City, right I mean, he's still the
- 23:20Speaker 4: head coach. He's got all, he's got all offensive coordinator.
- 23:23Speaker 4: He doesn't tell you what's going on. You just know
- 23:27Speaker 4: that he has a huge influence on every single play.
- 23:30Speaker 4: And that is Doug's mentor. So Doug is always gonna
- 23:34Speaker 4: have a strong influence. And I don't think he's ever
- 23:36Speaker 4: gonna tell people. Press called the place today, I called
- 23:39Speaker 4: the place today. I just think you understand his influence.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It is all right.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I guess that's our cue to get out of here.
- 23:44Speaker 1: We appreciate you, enjoy the game. This weekend.
- 23:46Speaker 2: NFL Football's back.
- 23:47Speaker 1: We'll be back on Monday to talk about everything.
