• 1:21
  And
• 1:21
  all
• 1:21
  the
• 1:22
  time
• 1:22
  they're
• 1:22
  exploiting
• 1:23
  the
• 1:23
  weak
• 1:23
  and
• 1:23
  helpless.
• 1:24
  The

  longer

  their

  prayers,
• 1:26
  the
• 1:26
  worse

  But

  they'll

• 1:28
  it
• 1:28
  in

  the

• 1:30
  Just
• 1:30
  then
• 1:30
  he
• 1:30
  looked
• 1:31
  up
• 1:31
  and
• 1:31
  saw
• 1:31
  the
• 1:31
  rich
• 1:32
  people
• 1:32
  dropping
• 1:33
  offerings
• 1:33
  in
• 1:33

• 1:34
  He
• 1:35
  saw
• 1:35
  a
• 1:35
  poor
• 1:35
  widow
• 1:36
  put
• 1:36
  in.
• 1:36
  Two
• 1:36
  pennies
• 1:37
  and
• 1:37
  he
• 1:37
  said,
• 1:38
  the
• 1:38
  plain
• 1:38
  truth
• 1:38
  is
• 1:39
  that
• 1:39
  this
• 1:39
  widow
• 1:39
  has
• 1:40
  given
• 1:40
  by
• 1:40
  far
• 1:41
  the

  largest
• 1:42

• 1:42
  today.
• 1:43
  All
• 1:44
  these

  others
• 1:44
  made

  offerings
• 1:45
  that
• 1:45
  they
• 1:45
  will
• 1:45
  never
• 1:46
  miss.
• 1:46
  She,
• 1:46
  she
• 1:46
  gave
• 1:47
  extravagantly
• 1:48
  of
• 1:48
  what
• 1:48
  she
• 1:48
  could
• 1:48
  afford
• 1:49
  and
• 1:49
  she
• 1:49
  gave
• 1:50
  her
• 1:50
  all.
• 1:51
  Wow,
• 1:52
  a
• 1:53
  great
• 1:53
  reading
• 1:53
  from
• 1:53
  the
• 1:53
  scriptures.
• 1:54
  Let's
• 1:54
  talk
• 1:54
  about
• 1:55
  when
• 1:55
  religious
• 1:55
  performance
• 1:56
  meets
• 1:56
  genuine
• 1:57
  faith.
• 1:59
  Let's
• 1:59
  talk
• 1:59
  about
• 2:01
  this
• 2:02
  actually,
• 2:03
  in
• 2:03
  terms
• 2:03
  of
• 2:04
  some
• 2:04
  points
• 2:04
  to
• 2:05
  ponder
• 2:06
  about
• 2:07
  things
• 2:07
  that
• 2:07
  we
• 2:07
  can
• 2:07
  learn
• 2:08
  from
• 2:08
  this
• 2:08
  passage
• 2:08
  here
• 2:09
  about
• 2:09
  religious
• 2:10
  performance.
• 2:11
  The
• 2:12
  first
• 2:12
  one
• 2:12
  is
• 2:12
  that
• 2:13
  performance
• 2:13
  is
• 2:14
  a
• 2:14
  trap.
• 2:15
  Jesus
• 2:15
  calls
• 2:16
  out
• 2:16
  these
• 2:16
  religious
• 2:16
  scholars
• 2:17
  who
• 2:17
  are
• 2:17
  essentially
• 2:17
  putting
• 2:18
  on
• 2:18
  a
• 2:18
  show.
• 2:19
  You
• 2:19
  know,
• 2:19
  after
• 2:20
  33
• 2:20
  years
• 2:20
  of
• 2:20
  marriage
• 2:21
  and
• 2:21
  raising
• 2:21
  three
• 2:21
  kids,
• 2:22
  I've
• 2:22
  learned
• 2:22
  that
• 2:22
  authenticity
• 2:23
  beats
• 2:23
  performance
• 2:24
  every
• 2:24
  day.
• 2:25
  It's
• 2:26
  like
• 2:26
  when
• 2:26
  I'm
• 2:26
  working
• 2:26
  with
• 2:27
  cancer
• 2:27
  impacted
• 2:27
  patients
• 2:28
  and
• 2:28
  families
• 2:29
  on
• 2:29
  my
• 2:29
  podcast,
• 2:30
  Cancer
• 2:30
  Comedy.
• 2:31
  They
• 2:31
  don't
• 2:31
  need
• 2:31
  impressive
• 2:32
  words.
• 2:32
  They
• 2:32
  need
• 2:33
  genuine
• 2:33
  presence
• 2:34
  and
• 2:34
  care.
• 2:35
  Jesus
• 2:36
  is
• 2:36
  criticizing
• 2:36
  a
• 2:37
  system
• 2:37
  where
• 2:37
  religious
• 2:38
  leaders
• 2:38
  were
• 2:38
  more
• 2:38
  concerned
• 2:39
  with
• 2:39
  their
• 2:39
  their
• 2:39
  appearance
• 2:41
  than
• 2:41
  with
• 2:41
  serving
• 2:41
  others.
• 2:44
  Second
• 2:44
  point
• 2:44
  to
• 2:44
  ponder
• 2:45
  is
• 2:45
  the
• 2:45
  power
• 2:45
  and
• 2:45
  the
• 2:45
  privilege.
• 2:46
  Here's
• 2:47
  where
• 2:47
  it
• 2:47
  gets
• 2:47
  really
• 2:47
  interesting
• 2:48
  from
• 2:48
  a
• 2:48
  progressive
• 2:49
  perspective.
• 2:50
  Jesus
• 2:50
  isn't
• 2:51
  just
• 2:51
  criticizing
• 2:52
  individual
• 2:52
  behavior.
• 2:53
  He's
• 2:53
  calling
• 2:53
  out
• 2:54
  systematic
• 2:54
  exploitation.
• 2:56
  These
• 2:56
  religious
• 2:57
  leaders
• 2:57
  were
• 2:57
  exploiting
• 2:57
  the
• 2:58
  weak
• 2:58
  and
• 2:58
  helpless
• 2:58
  while
• 2:58
  maintaining
• 2:59
  a
• 2:59
  veneer
• 3:00
  of
• 3:00
  respectability.
• 3:02
  It's
• 3:02
  like
• 3:03
  watching
• 3:03
  a
• 3:03
  game.
• 3:04
  I
• 3:04
  like
• 3:04
  to
• 3:04
  watch
• 3:04
  my
• 3:05
  pacers
• 3:05
  in
• 3:05
  fever
• 3:05
  play.
• 3:07
  Sometimes
• 3:07
  one
• 3:08
  team
• 3:08
  seems
• 3:08
  to
• 3:08
  have
• 3:08
  all
• 3:08
  the
• 3:09
  advantages
• 3:10
  or
• 3:10
  it
• 3:10
  tries
• 3:10
  to
• 3:11
  bend
• 3:11
  the
• 3:11
  rules.
• 3:12
  Jesus
• 3:13
  is
• 3:13
  saying,
• 3:13
  hey,
• 3:14
  check
• 3:14
  your
• 3:15
  privilege.
• 3:15
  That's
• 3:16
  not
• 3:16
  what
• 3:16
  this
• 3:16
  is
• 3:16
  all
• 3:16
  about.
• 3:18
  The
• 3:18
  third
• 3:18
  thing
• 3:18
  is
• 3:18
  about
• 3:19
  redefining
• 3:19
  generosity.
• 3:20
  The
• 3:20
  widow's
• 3:21
  story
• 3:21
  isn't
• 3:21
  just
• 3:21
  about
• 3:21
  giving
• 3:22
  money.
• 3:22
  It's
• 3:22
  about
• 3:22
  challenging
• 3:23
  our
• 3:23
  entire
• 3:24
  understanding
• 3:25
  of
• 3:25
  value
• 3:25
  and
• 3:25
  sacrifice.
• 3:27
  When
• 3:27
  Jesus
• 3:27
  points
• 3:28
  out
• 3:28
  that
• 3:28
  she
• 3:28
  gave.
• 3:29
  Her
• 3:29
  all,
• 3:30
  he's
• 3:30
  not
• 3:30
  praising
• 3:31
  the
• 3:31
  fact.
• 3:31
  That
• 3:31
  she
• 3:31
  was
• 3:32
  forced
• 3:32
  into
• 3:32
  such
• 3:32
  a
• 3:33
  position.
• 3:34
  He's
• 3:35
  critiquing
• 3:35
  a
• 3:35
  system
• 3:36
  that
• 3:36
  would
• 3:36
  require
• 3:37
  such
• 3:37
  a
• 3:37
  sacrifice
• 3:38
  from
• 3:38
  the
• 3:38
  poor,
• 3:39
  while
• 3:39
  the
• 3:39
  wealthy
• 3:40
  gave
• 3:40
  only
• 3:41
  from
• 3:41
  their
• 3:41
  excess.
• 3:42
  Here's
• 3:43
  your
• 3:43
  action
• 3:43
  step.
• 3:45
  A
• 3:45
  challenge
• 3:45
  to
• 3:45
  examine
• 3:46
  your
• 3:46
  own
• 3:47
  relationship
• 3:47
  with
• 3:47
  privilege
• 3:48
  and
• 3:48
  generosity.
• 3:49
  Instead
• 3:50
  of
• 3:50
  giving
• 3:50
  from
• 3:50
  excess,
• 3:51
  find
• 3:52
  one
• 3:52
  way
• 3:52
  to
• 3:52
  advocate
• 3:52
  for
• 3:53
  a
• 3:53
  systematic
• 3:53
  change
• 3:54
  that
• 3:54
  would
• 3:54
  make
• 3:54
  extreme
• 3:55
  sacrifice
• 3:56
  unnecessary.
• 3:57
  Maybe
• 3:58
  it's
• 3:58
  supporting
• 3:58
  organizations
• 3:59
  working
• 3:59
  for
• 4:00
  economic
• 4:00
  justice
• 4:01
  or
• 4:01
  speaking
• 4:02
  up
• 4:02
  against
• 4:03
  policies
• 4:03
  that
• 4:04
  are
• 4:04
  a
• 4:04
  burden
• 4:04
  to
• 4:04
  the
• 4:05
  poor.
• 4:06
  Remember,
• 4:07
  like
• 4:07
  my
• 4:07
  granddaughters
• 4:08
  often
• 4:08
  remind
• 4:08
  me
• 4:09
  through
• 4:09
  their
• 4:09
  innocent
• 4:09
  wisdom,
• 4:10
  sharing
• 4:11
  isn't
• 4:11
  just
• 4:11
  about
• 4:12
  giving
• 4:12
  things
• 4:12
  away.
• 4:12
  It's
• 4:13
  about
• 4:13
  making
• 4:13
  sure
• 4:14
  everyone
• 4:15
  has
• 4:15
  enough
• 4:16
  to
• 4:16
  begin
• 4:16
  with.
• 4:18
  We'll
• 4:18
  have
• 4:18
  a
