- 0:03Speaker 1: Chinese
- 0:04Speaker 2: Wake up
- 0:06Speaker 2: next to you.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:11Speaker 2: and Joakim on the
- 0:12Speaker 1: shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome to Tuesday, and I'm guessing
- 0:16Speaker 1: most of you might be uh waking up right now
- 0:18Speaker 1: heading for your listening comprehension exam very soon.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Ah, have you dug your ears?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Are you OK?
- 0:25Speaker 1: Is that what your mom used to tell you?
- 0:26Speaker 2: You think inside,
- 0:27Speaker 2: can you hear properly? Singapore's
- 0:29Speaker 2: number one hit music station.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And yes, like we said, a portion of you will
- 0:36Speaker 1: be heading for your examinations. Yes, a portion of you
- 0:38Speaker 1: may not even need to go to school today, actually,
- 0:40Speaker 2: right? So
- 0:41Speaker 2: please, for listening comprehension, listen to the passage. Don't be
- 0:46Speaker 2: so caught up in trying to shade your answers in
- 0:48Speaker 2: record time. No. Listen to the entire passage, comprehend it,
- 0:53Speaker 2: and then when they ask you the question, shade the
- 0:55Speaker 2: correct
- 0:55Speaker 2: answer.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Actually, you know, this is a, this is a great
- 0:58Speaker 1: topic for another time, right, when you just that you
- 1:00Speaker 1: just brought up.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Um, I used to notice some of my classmates around
- 1:04Speaker 1: me that will complete their exams like really quickly, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: then they just like close up the paper and put
- 1:11Speaker 1: their head on the table, to which sometimes I, I
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't know if that gives me any anxiety, but I'm like, wow,
- 1:16Speaker 1: is it they're like so good, that's why they're so smart,
- 1:19Speaker 1: they finished it, or did they not know how to
- 1:21Speaker 1: fill in the paper at all?
- 1:22Speaker 2: in that case, I finished
- 1:26Speaker 2: my
- 1:26Speaker 1: time. How did you, how long did you
- 1:27Speaker 1: take?
- 1:28Speaker 2: DNT we had 2 hours and 30 minutes. I wrote
- 1:30Speaker 2: my name.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And that's it. No, you wrote your name and that's it.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Look,
- 1:37Speaker 2: every single question involved,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I thought it was practical.
- 1:40Speaker 2: The the
- 1:41Speaker 2: answer involved a form of drawing and stuff, and I'm like, guys,
- 1:45Speaker 2: art class or
- 1:46Speaker 2: something.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Maybe you get one point. No,
- 1:48Speaker 2: no, one mark. I
- 1:49Speaker 2: knew I was gonna fail D&T anyway.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But all I can say is you have now come
- 1:54Speaker 2: to the end of the listening comprehension examination. Goodbye. Is
- 1:59Speaker 2: that the
- 2:00Speaker 1: song?
- 2:00Speaker 2: I did not even notice that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I wonder if it's changed already.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I'm
- 2:05Speaker 2: sure it has, but yeah, that was my time.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think for today the both of us are going
- 2:09Speaker 2: to sound a little bit nasal and you can tell
- 2:11Speaker 2: that we are battling a bit of a sneezing fit
- 2:14Speaker 2: here in the
- 2:14Speaker 2: studio.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Actually, more so than you because I just, I have
- 2:17Speaker 1: this chronic like sinus issues, right, which I think you
- 2:21Speaker 1: solved quite a while ago, like with the sinus surgery,
- 2:25Speaker 1: sinus surgery many years ago
- 2:26Speaker 2: nasal
- 2:27Speaker 2: septum wasn't really much of a sinus thing, but because
- 2:30Speaker 2: when I used to breathe when I was a lot younger.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Uh, what happened was one nostril is OK, but the
- 2:36Speaker 2: other one is quite
- 2:37Speaker 2: blocked.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so I have the same problem and don't, don't
- 2:40Speaker 1: laugh at me even though I know you're gonna laugh
- 2:41Speaker 1: at me. I won't. When I, yes, you will. When
- 2:44Speaker 1: I went to the ENT like uh, I think it
- 2:47Speaker 1: was a year or two ago, OK, um, she had
- 2:49Speaker 1: to do like a scope, right, to find out what
- 2:51Speaker 1: was going on because I as a kid, I never
- 2:53Speaker 1: went to get it fixed or solved or like consulted
- 2:56Speaker 1: or whatever. I just sneeze a lot every single morning.
- 3:00Speaker 1: She did the scope thing with the camera and she openly,
- 3:03Speaker 1: she goes, she goes, you have like the smallest nostril ever.
- 3:09Speaker 1: This is coming from the doctor, OK. She was like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: your left nostril is like a kid's nostril.
- 3:15Speaker 2: wow.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But it's only one side, which is, you know, what
- 3:18Speaker 1: you mentioned earlier.
- 3:19Speaker 2: That's a statement and a half.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It was pretty, pretty funny.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But anyway, according to the press and our friends over
- 3:25Speaker 2: at NEA, the PSI, it's in the hundreds now.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah in terms of the 24 hour PSI, so if
- 3:32Speaker 2: you're going to do outdoor activities or if you're currently
- 3:34Speaker 2: doing your morning run or morning cycle, please observe the
- 3:38Speaker 2: weather conditions and listen to your
- 3:40Speaker 2: body.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And I think, you know, beyond that as well, like
- 3:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't hang my clothes outside actually at this point
- 3:46Speaker 1: because I don't want it to catch the
- 3:48Speaker 1: The funky smell outside. Oh yeah, yeah, so I mean
- 3:50Speaker 1: if you have one of those like dehumidifier things at home,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, just turn that on and yeah, pop your
- 3:56Speaker 1: laundry inside.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I'll be surprised if social media marketing. Hey guys, we
- 4:02Speaker 2: got an indoor drying system with the available for you, um,
- 4:08Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes the weather is unpredictable. Yeah, right. OK, well, regardless,
- 4:12Speaker 1: hope you have a good start to your day, not
- 4:13Speaker 1: so sneezy like us. Coming up in just a few minutes.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Now, this is the perfect example of why sometimes nosy
- 4:22Speaker 1: neighbors or nosy residents around the area, not necessarily the
- 4:26Speaker 1: best thing, OK. Sometimes people are nosy because they feel
- 4:29Speaker 1: like they're doing good or they like want to intervene
- 4:32Speaker 1: in something that they think is wrong, right?
- 4:34Speaker 2: What's the term for it? Social justice
- 4:36Speaker 2: warrior.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So, OK, sometimes I think fair, like if
- 4:40Speaker 1: they see something odd that's going on and then
- 4:43Speaker 1: It's a not so safe situation to go and approach
- 4:46Speaker 1: this person. You take a video and you submit to
- 4:48Speaker 1: the authorities. OK, fine, maybe you find something suspicious, but
- 4:51Speaker 1: at times of, or, or rather, oftentimes I find a
- 4:54Speaker 1: lot of people are just very capable, and they just
- 4:56Speaker 1: want to take videos of anything and everything. And, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: some citizen journalism websites actually give you money for submitting footage, right,
- 5:03Speaker 1: which may in turn encourage different types of behavior and
- 5:08Speaker 1: The motivation for people to take videos of others
- 5:11Speaker 2: and others here in Singapore. It might make you feel
- 5:15Speaker 2: like wow, I submit this
- 5:17Speaker 2: rewarded.
- 5:20Speaker 1: In some occasions it's a good thing because it might
- 5:22Speaker 1: be a bad situation, but in others.
- 5:24Speaker 1: like the one I'm about to share in just a while,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you're just gonna face palm Jokim. Absolutely face palm. Jung area. Uh,
- 5:31Speaker 1: like we said earlier, sometimes citizen journalism can be useful
- 5:36Speaker 1: and it can apprehend certain people that are up to
- 5:38Speaker 1: no good, but
- 5:40Speaker 1: Um, on the other hand, sometimes, or rather maybe even 50, 60,
- 5:44Speaker 1: or perhaps even 70% of the time, um, it's quite
- 5:47Speaker 1: capable people driven by the fact that, oh, maybe I'll
- 5:50Speaker 1: get a small fee or be seen as a hero
- 5:52Speaker 1: if I submit this footage, and they might submit things
- 5:55Speaker 1: without even knowing the context.
- 5:56Speaker 2: To quote a phrase that was said and it became
- 5:58Speaker 2: a meme here in Singapore, I'm gonna call a spade
- 6:01Speaker 2: a spade, OK.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Honestly, I think it was the storm culture from the
- 6:06Speaker 2: late 2000s that really encouraged people to hey my camera
- 6:11Speaker 2: phone can now be a weapon or can be a
- 6:13Speaker 2: truth
- 6:14Speaker 2: tool.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And, and it's even worse now because of social media platforms.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I mean TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, it can, it can go
- 6:21Speaker 1: up like unverified as well nowadays without even submitting.
- 6:25Speaker 1: But anyway, um, this man was spotted attempting to, uh,
- 6:30Speaker 1: hold a cat, OK, over at the Jung area, and
- 6:34Speaker 1: he was squatting on the ground like a pavement and
- 6:37Speaker 1: the cat was like resisting him in a way.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Um, he looked like he has dealt with animals before,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like judging from the way that he was trying to
- 6:44Speaker 1: carry the cat, but he was filmed by some neighbor
- 6:49Speaker 1: through a window. OK, it looks like this person was
- 6:51Speaker 1: hiding behind a window, and this person posted it up
- 6:54Speaker 1: on what I feel could be IGS that says at
- 6:57Speaker 1: Ju Sing Roadblock 14, don't know this man and what
- 7:00Speaker 1: he's going to do to this cat, was the caption,
- 7:03Speaker 1: very big caption on the video. It's one of those
- 7:05Speaker 1: out of context I'm guessing. Guess what?
- 7:09Speaker 1: This guy was trying to bring the cat to the vet. Exactly,
- 7:12Speaker 2: you see,
- 7:13Speaker 1: he, he, after this video went viral, he was identified
- 7:17Speaker 1: as someone who is a community caregiver.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And this person who did not know anything and thought
- 7:25Speaker 1: that he or she was being a hero went to
- 7:27Speaker 1: video and upload this, you know, video of this man.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So
- 7:30Speaker 2: maybe right intentions but wrong execution because if you are
- 7:33Speaker 2: the person who's about to video someone before you do it,
- 7:36Speaker 2: maybe ask him first. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 2: exactly, you know.
- 7:39Speaker 1: No, but from the angle of this video, it looked
- 7:41Speaker 1: like this person was hiding behind a window, window pane, and,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and it was a bit shaky and you know, just
- 7:47Speaker 1: trying to catch this guy in the open inverted commas act.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But um, hey, this man had only good intentions. He,
- 7:53Speaker 1: if you know the area well enough and if you've
- 7:55Speaker 1: been around the area, you will know that he's a
- 7:58Speaker 1: caregiver there,
- 7:59Speaker 2: most of the time, a 10 or 15 is not
- 8:01Speaker 2: enough to tell the entire story. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I mean, what is stopping you from just approaching him
- 8:11Speaker 1: and saying, hey, is everything OK, like, you know, with
- 8:13Speaker 1: this cat?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Then if he's acting suss, then you go and, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: call someone.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Again, unfortunately we live in a culture where
- 8:21Speaker 1: people will confront, right?
- 8:23Speaker 2: They
- 8:23Speaker 2: prefer using their camera phones instead of confront
- 8:25Speaker 1: non-confrontational.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 2: but they use their camera phones to film and put
- 8:31Speaker 2: it up online,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and no one knows who they are most of the time.
- 8:35Speaker 1: OK, stick around. We're about to open up phone lines
- 8:38Speaker 1: and our WhatsApp channels in just a bit. We would
- 8:39Speaker 1: love for you to text us if you're on the
- 8:41Speaker 1: way to school. Maybe you're doing your PSLE listening compre today.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You want some, you know, good energy. We'd love to
- 8:46Speaker 1: play you a song of your choice. Yup, stick around.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And to really perk you up and put you in
- 8:50Speaker 1: a good mood, especially if you're taking.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Your PSLE, we would love for you to send us
- 8:55Speaker 1: a message or give us
- 8:56Speaker 2: a call.
- 8:57Speaker 2: 669-11987 or 90050987. Sonia, let's predict what do you think
- 9:04Speaker 2: the listening comprehension passage would be
- 9:07Speaker 2: about?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Would be about um.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Maybe they'll pick a real-life situation or something like, OK,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I think it'll be rescuing stray dogs.
- 9:17Speaker 2: OK,
- 9:18Speaker 2: rescue. OK. Yes. I predict that maybe for the listening
- 9:22Speaker 2: comprehension passage, it could be about a historical figure.
- 9:26Speaker 1: OK, OK, maybe, yes.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Maybe they might focus on some Greek tragedy like Odyssey
- 9:31Speaker 2: or for example,
- 9:33Speaker 1: something.
- 9:33Speaker 1: With AI perhaps in this day and
- 9:36Speaker 2: age.
- 9:38Speaker 1: OK, but P6 I'm not sure. Let's see, let's see.
- 9:40Speaker 2: So
- 9:40Speaker 2: once you're done with the listening, can you please text
- 9:43Speaker 2: us and let us know what we're so
- 9:44Speaker 1: curious. Let us know. You can call us 669-11987
- 9:50Speaker 1: You can also drop us a message on WhatsApp at 90050987.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I think Joy and I have been dying to get
- 9:57Speaker 1: Telegram up and stuff, so we'll see whether we can
- 10:00Speaker 1: eventually make that happen. Yeah, for sure. I think we're
- 10:02Speaker 1: getting a few messages as well, um, earlier on about
- 10:06Speaker 1: people going to school, people preparing for their exams, and
- 10:09Speaker 1: we're gonna head to the phone lines in just a minute.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So
- 10:11Speaker 2: loads of P6s, they got their listening comprehension today that
- 10:16Speaker 2: might begin at say 9 a.m., but they usually go
- 10:19Speaker 2: to school.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Very, very early. Want to just tell you, say hello
- 10:22Speaker 2: on WhatsApp to Darren. Darren says, Hey guys, it's my PS,
- 10:26Speaker 2: it's my sister's PS early today. All the best to
- 10:29Speaker 2: your sister, Darren. Make sure you listen well to the passage,
- 10:32Speaker 2: tell her that, and also share the correct answers and
- 10:35Speaker 2: check where A, B, C, and D on your shading
- 10:38Speaker 2: sheet is.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I think like my dad used to tell me
- 10:42Speaker 1: I would lose points because I'm careless. That's what he
- 10:45Speaker 1: would say. You're too careless. You, you don't check your answers,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you don't double check.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Anyway, um, we actually have Caleb on the line right now. Caleb,
- 10:53Speaker 1: which school are you from and are you a PSLE student? Um,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm from Singan Primary. Alright, big shout out. Is there
- 11:01Speaker 1: anyone you want to say hi to on air? Uh,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I want to say hi to Keegan from my class.
- 11:06Speaker 1: He used to be my kindergarten friend also.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Oh,
- 11:09Speaker 2: that's nice, a very long friendship.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Uh, can I ask what time is the listening comprehension
- 11:14Speaker 2: exam then?
- 11:15Speaker 1: At 7:20. 7:20,
- 11:18Speaker 2: so early.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I wonder if it's different for different schools or it's
- 11:21Speaker 1: all the same.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I think it's universal here in Singapore. It
- 11:24Speaker 1: has to be. Well, you know what, Caleb, all the best.
- 11:26Speaker 1: We would love to get you a song this morning.
- 11:28Speaker 1: What can we play for you?
- 11:29Speaker 2: Can you play
- 11:30Speaker 1: Blue by Yuni? Blue by Yun Kai coming right up.
- 11:33Speaker 1: You have a great day, OK? Take
- 11:34Speaker 2: care, Caleb. All the
- 11:35Speaker 2: best. Bye bye.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And some places close here in Singapore, you might go, OK,
- 11:41Speaker 2: what is going on? So when I saw this in
- 11:44Speaker 2: the news yesterday, I'm just kind of wondering, is everything
- 11:46Speaker 2: OK with our friends over at Crystal Jade? I know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I know. That's worrying.
- 11:51Speaker 2: So before you panic and go, Hey, is it the
- 11:53Speaker 2: Crystal Jade Lamian Xiaolong Pao outlet or whatsoever? I actually
- 11:57Speaker 2: googled the different crystal Jade concept.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That they have here in Singapore. So they have Crystal
- 12:02Speaker 2: Jade Palace. I think that's the high-end fine dining one. No, no,
- 12:06Speaker 1: no, Crystal Jade Palace is OK, you read out the
- 12:08Speaker 1: rest to me. There's
- 12:09Speaker 2: Crystal Jade Palace, Crystal Jade Pavilion, Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen,
- 12:14Speaker 2: Crystal Jade La Mia and Xiaolong Pao, and Crystal Jade Goh.
- 12:18Speaker 1: OK, gold or gold? Go, go, go, go.
- 12:22Speaker 1: OK,
- 12:23Speaker 2: so I think it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: like Crystal Palace, is that the most? I cannot remember.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I think it sounds like it apparently.
- 12:30Speaker 2: So it's like one tree with many different branches.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, it's, it's very similar to like
- 12:35Speaker 1: Imperial Group, for example, a little bit Paradise Group. They
- 12:38Speaker 1: have their different tiers. So
- 12:39Speaker 2: the one over.
- 12:40Speaker 2: at Great World City is actually the Hong Kong kitchen,
- 12:44Speaker 1: Hong Kong kitchen, yes.
- 12:45Speaker 2: It's closed.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It closed already?
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the third Crystal Jade closure in 2026.
- 12:52Speaker 1: That's scary.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so a notice posted outside the store on September
- 12:57Speaker 2: 2nd apparently.
- 12:58Speaker 2: The landlord GWC commercial has taken back the premises according
- 13:03Speaker 2: to the press in
- 13:04Speaker 2: Singapore.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I'm very, very shocked, honestly, because I've grown up eating
- 13:08Speaker 1: Crystal Jade. Honestly, like on weekends, right, when my parents
- 13:11Speaker 1: decide like, OK, we're going to Crystal Jade, I'm super happy. Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: it's
- 13:14Speaker 1: like
- 13:14Speaker 2: a
- 13:14Speaker 1: treat.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So I think our friends over at Crystal Jade have
- 13:17Speaker 2: told the press that, OK, we're closing this just to,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you know, have a look at our business assessment and
- 13:23Speaker 2: see what works best here in
- 13:24Speaker 2: Singapore.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But sometimes it could also
- 13:26Speaker 1: Be like maybe their lease was up or something at
- 13:29Speaker 1: this particular mall and and maybe they wanna, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: kind of explore another mall, another location. I don't know,
- 13:36Speaker 2: man. I guess.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I don't think there's a Crystal. I think there's a Crystal.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I think Crystal
- 13:47Speaker 2: in Orchard. OK, I just think they got one Paragon.
- 13:54Speaker 1: City
- 13:54Speaker 2: and Crystal Jade Hong Kong kitchen
- 13:57Speaker 1: and I don't believe, I don't think there's one I
- 14:00Speaker 1: I is I is Imperial, OK, right, and Paradise, I
- 14:05Speaker 1: think you're right. Yes, I know my Chinese food.
- 14:09Speaker 2: OK, so there are 15 branches remaining here in Singapore.
- 14:11Speaker 1: OK, well, um, whatever it is, I really hope they
- 14:15Speaker 1: weather the storms, you know, I don't think it sounds
- 14:17Speaker 1: like they're in any sort of problems. It doesn't sound
- 14:20Speaker 1: like it. Maybe they're just.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Re-looking at the locations that they're at, OK, yeah, yeah, hopefully,
- 14:27Speaker 2: that's Crystal.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Din Tai, I hope you guys are
- 14:30Speaker 2: OK. Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I hope you guys are good. They seem fine fine closing,
- 14:36Speaker 1: I'm worried. I'll start getting concerned about our economy and
- 14:42Speaker 1: our spending rather. not to call you out or anything, Joe,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but I remember this like I think it was a
- 14:48Speaker 1: couple of years ago. You've dropped one side of your
- 14:51Speaker 1: AirPods in the drain before, right?
- 14:54Speaker 1: Am I remembering this correctly? Uh,
- 14:57Speaker 2: or was it
- 14:57Speaker 1: the entire thing
- 14:58Speaker 2: wasn't an AirPod. It was my previous uh wireless buds
- 15:03Speaker 2: that I used to use
- 15:04Speaker 1: and it dropped in the drain or how how did
- 15:07Speaker 1: that happen?
- 15:07Speaker 2: After I
- 15:08Speaker 2: finished my run, OK, I wanted to take it and
- 15:11Speaker 2: put it back in the case, right?
- 15:12Speaker 2: I took out one side, it slipped because my, my
- 15:15Speaker 2: palms are very sweaty, fell into the drain, and it
- 15:18Speaker 2: was
- 15:18Speaker 2: gone.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And you never got it back. It's just sitting there.
- 15:23Speaker 2: OK. It's probably washed away somewhere now.
- 15:26Speaker 1: No, well, uh, coming up in just a little bit,
- 15:29Speaker 1: this very touching story.
- 15:31Speaker 1: And I think you will feel just so relieved for
- 15:33Speaker 1: this woman. I mean, if you put yourself in her position,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you'd be so grateful. I'll tell you more in just
- 15:38Speaker 1: a little bit. Stay tuned. Like I mentioned earlier, um,
- 15:41Speaker 1: Joakim has had experience with this, dropping a pair of
- 15:44Speaker 1: uh earbuds into a drain. This happened years ago, I think.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I think I've
- 15:50Speaker 2: done it twice, one of which was a very long
- 15:53Speaker 2: time ago.
- 15:54Speaker 2: One of which was maybe say just after COVID restrictions
- 15:59Speaker 2: were
- 15:59Speaker 2: lifted.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I think that's the one where you came to the
- 16:01Speaker 1: office and you told me about it.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And I remember trying to lift up the
- 16:06Speaker 2: drain, couldn't do it.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So that's the thing, right? The same thing happened to
- 16:11Speaker 1: this woman and she actually was using her AirPods, her
- 16:14Speaker 1: Apple AirPods, OK. So this was over in the Bukit
- 16:17Speaker 1: Batok drain. Um, she dropped it and unfortunately, like you mentioned.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Rightfully so, it's very difficult to, to, to lift up
- 16:25Speaker 1: the drain cover, especially if she was by herself. Thankfully,
- 16:29Speaker 1: there was a migrant worker around the area who offered
- 16:32Speaker 1: to help her, apparently, and he retrieved it in like
- 16:35Speaker 1: less than 5 minutes. Yeah, he lifted the thing, he
- 16:38Speaker 1: lifted the drain cover, he retrieved it within 5 minutes
- 16:41Speaker 1: upon arrival, and she actually wanted to give him some
- 16:44Speaker 1: money for it, you know, like to thank him for
- 16:45Speaker 1: his time, but he refused. He said, no, no, no,
- 16:48Speaker 1: I don't want, I don't want, um.
- 16:50Speaker 1: to accept the money. So she went and got him
- 16:53Speaker 1: some doughnuts instead. Oh, that's great. Like got, got him
- 16:56Speaker 1: some snacks, you know, but yeah, these things sometimes it
- 17:00Speaker 1: happens and you know with earpods, uh, earpods, with AirPods
- 17:04Speaker 1: and even other types of earbuds now, it's quite small
- 17:07Speaker 1: and it can slip between the cracks quite easily. That's
- 17:10Speaker 1: the thing, and they're not attached to you at this
- 17:12Speaker 1: point with the wire,
- 17:14Speaker 2: right? That's why
- 17:14Speaker 2: and I see a drain cover, I try to avoid
- 17:17Speaker 2: it in case it falls in by
- 17:18Speaker 2: accident.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you never know and, and sometimes the earbuds don't
- 17:22Speaker 1: fit your ear, so you might want to switch the
- 17:25Speaker 1: size of the buds so that it doesn't slip out
- 17:27Speaker 1: so easily.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all migrant workers, thank you very much for
- 17:32Speaker 2: Singapore for
- 17:33Speaker 2: us. Yeah,
- 17:34Speaker 1: we appreciate you so much and big shout out to
- 17:36Speaker 1: this lady who also tried to do.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Her best to compensate him. She actually said she was
- 17:41Speaker 1: really impressed by the response and how quickly everything was handled,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and she wanted to share this because regardless of who
- 17:47Speaker 1: we are or what we do, or what your profession is,
- 17:50Speaker 1: a simple act of kindness and appreciation can mean so much.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Kindness is free guys. Let's keep spreading it. That was
- 17:56Speaker 1: what she she posted. Yeah. OK, we're gonna dive straight
- 17:59Speaker 1: into this one. It cannot be ignored because it became
- 18:01Speaker 1: quite public information.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I'm going to be very factual here and maybe give
- 18:07Speaker 2: you one small opinion. That's about it, but I'm gonna
- 18:12Speaker 2: tell you something, Sonia. I do not want to be
- 18:14Speaker 2: Ed Sheeran right now. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 1: he's in a sticky situation.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Only imagine the stress and the panic he could be
- 18:20Speaker 2: facing right now. So factually, and I'm gonna lift this
- 18:24Speaker 2: off Rolling Stone, OK.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Macklemore has been removed from the rest of Ed Sheeran's
- 18:30Speaker 2: stadium tour after several venues allegedly told the promoter that
- 18:36Speaker 2: they would not allow the rapper to perform. So apparently
- 18:40Speaker 2: there's a stadium owner by the name of Robert Kraft.
- 18:43Speaker 2: He was able to rally other stadium owners and told
- 18:47Speaker 2: Sheeran, if Macklemore performs as your opening act, you will
- 18:50Speaker 2: not be allowed to perform at our stadiums, and this
- 18:53Speaker 2: one is because Macklemore was on stage, and I think
- 18:55Speaker 2: you've seen plenty of videos of him going to the
- 18:58Speaker 2: microphone doing his song for Palestine and shouting Free Palestine,
- 19:02Speaker 2: to which, yeah, people were supportive, but then, of course,
- 19:06Speaker 2: there are some organizers.
- 19:08Speaker 2: They are very unhappy with it. That's what I'm gonna say.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But now Macklemore has gone on Instagram. He's posted the
- 19:16Speaker 2: entire story from his point of view, and he said, Yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 2: me and Ed Sheeran have been friends for 13 years,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and due to Ed Sheeran being apolitical, where he means
- 19:25Speaker 2: that he doesn't want to
- 19:25Speaker 2: publicly support
- 19:28Speaker 1: when it comes to his music and stuff.
- 19:29Speaker 2: So now
- 19:30Speaker 2: comments are coming.
- 19:31Speaker 2: In thick and fast. I, I wonder what Ed Sheeran's
- 19:35Speaker 2: PR team is going to respond to this.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I mean, look, there are musicians that want to use
- 19:41Speaker 1: that platform for different reasons, which is fine, which is
- 19:44Speaker 1: fine because that's your own platform, but I think in
- 19:47Speaker 1: this particular case when it is tagged onto another artist's show, um,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and you may not exactly have the same.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Aligned in a way that like in the way that
- 19:57Speaker 1: you want to do your show or your public appearances,
- 20:00Speaker 1: then that's gonna be an issue for them.
- 20:02Speaker 2: OK, so that's between Edrid and Macklemore. I want to
- 20:06Speaker 2: draw it to us here in Singapore, OK, and this
- 20:09Speaker 2: is not pertaining to any subject that's ongoing in the
- 20:12Speaker 2: world right now.
- 20:13Speaker 2: If let's just say Sonia, you and I, we have
- 20:15Speaker 2: differing
- 20:16Speaker 2: views, which we will,
- 20:20Speaker 2: and we have, yeah, OK, can we still be friends?
- 20:22Speaker 1: I, I think yes. OK, there are some friends in
- 20:26Speaker 1: my friend group, right? And we're very close. We're like
- 20:29Speaker 1: really close, like it's the kind that I will call
- 20:31Speaker 1: in the middle of the night like you want to
- 20:32Speaker 1: go hang out for a drink kind of friend, right? Um,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but there are certain topics where we really don't align on,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but because we know that our friendship is there and
- 20:40Speaker 1: we know that we love each other very much, um.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Certain topics will just be, you know, I'll just keep
- 20:47Speaker 1: quiet when they have their own opinions. I'll just be like,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know what, I just don't want to say too
- 20:51Speaker 1: much.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Again, politics and world events aside, there are some, I mean,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I use the word friends very loosely.
- 20:58Speaker 2: They can be quite painful because they only want to
- 21:01Speaker 2: see things from their perspective and from where they come from,
- 21:06Speaker 2: and they just cannot open their vision to see an
- 21:09Speaker 2: entire view of the same topic we're
- 21:12Speaker 2: discussing.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I have a, I have a case in point here
- 21:15Speaker 1: where there's one particular friend and I really don't see
- 21:19Speaker 1: eye to eye when it comes to our view on relationships, OK.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And it is something that I get quite frustrated about
- 21:25Speaker 1: because I'm trying to get this person to be more open-minded, um,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but at the same time, this person is very resistant to,
- 21:33Speaker 1: to what people are saying, OK?
- 21:36Speaker 1: And every time we get to this topic, I feel
- 21:38Speaker 1: like it starts to get a little bit heated in
- 21:40Speaker 1: a way, and I try to then just like fizzle
- 21:43Speaker 1: it out because I'm like, I don't want to get
- 21:44Speaker 1: into it, you know what I mean? And at the
- 21:46Speaker 1: end of the day, like if there are that many
- 21:48Speaker 1: people telling you like, hey bro, you should be a
- 21:50Speaker 1: bit more open-minded, you should be, you know, like this
- 21:52Speaker 1: or view it this way, and that person is still
- 21:54Speaker 1: not budging, then maybe it's that person's problem already lah. Again,
- 21:57Speaker 2: it's my
- 21:57Speaker 2: theory of if one or two people tell you, alright, fine,
- 22:00Speaker 2: maybe it's them, but if 20 people are.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Telling you the same thing. Yeah,
- 22:04Speaker 2: please look in the mirror.
- 22:05Speaker 1: But you see, some friends are not close enough to
- 22:09Speaker 1: tell this person their views. So they just like talk
- 22:12Speaker 1: about it behind that person's back, you know what I mean?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Whereas the moment I start talking about it because I
- 22:17Speaker 1: feel like I'm close enough to this person to air
- 22:19Speaker 1: my views, right, then it starts getting a bit heated.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I also want to avoid the argument, right? You know,
- 22:23Speaker 1: it's like, whose side are you on,
- 22:25Speaker 2: Sonia? Are
- 22:25Speaker 2: you on their side or my side? You're my friend,
- 22:27Speaker 2: you know.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 22:29Speaker 1: That's when I fade out.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That's when I just agreed to disagree, you know what
- 22:34Speaker 1: I mean?
- 22:36Speaker 2: 6666911987. The phone lines are open and WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Can you be friends with somebody who has differing views
- 22:50Speaker 2: from you or maybe even expressing their views differently?
- 22:54Speaker 1: I, I say yes, but there's a line. There's a
- 22:57Speaker 1: limit there somewhere. Fair enough. Give us a call 669-11987.
- 23:01Speaker 1: We'd love to hear from you or you can drop
- 23:03Speaker 1: us a message as well, 90050987. A spicy question for
- 23:08Speaker 1: you here today, inspired by what's going on with Ed Sheeran.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Macklemore right now. Um, if you missed it, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: just go do a quick catch up on what's happening
- 23:15Speaker 1: between them. But the question for you is, are you
- 23:19Speaker 1: able to continue to be friends with someone even if
- 23:21Speaker 1: your views are not aligned or if
- 23:23Speaker 2: you express them differently? Yeah, yeah. For example, I want
- 23:27Speaker 2: to say good morning to Belinda on WhatsApp. Hey guys,
- 23:30Speaker 2: good morning. I guess I have to say yes because
- 23:33Speaker 2: that friend of mine is my husband. Oh no.
- 23:36Speaker 2: We've known each other for 10 years now, and I
- 23:39Speaker 2: think we're starting to realize that we have quite varying
- 23:42Speaker 2: opinions on a number of topics. I actually don't think
- 23:45Speaker 2: it's a bad thing because it opens up discussions and
- 23:48Speaker 2: letting me see things from a different perspective. I also
- 23:51Speaker 2: think it's largely because of our oh God, Capricorn and
- 23:55Speaker 2: Sagittarius combination. Sonia will get this.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, girl, I get it.
- 24:01Speaker 1: 100%.
- 24:02Speaker 2: OK, for those who speak English, can you please explain
- 24:04Speaker 2: what is Capricorn and Sagittarius?
- 24:06Speaker 1: OK, look, I don't know what, um, no, I think
- 24:09Speaker 1: she just means the differing, the differences between Capricorn and
- 24:12Speaker 1: Sagittarius you know differences. I only know like some maybe,
- 24:16Speaker 1: but for for Capricorns, we are quite headstrong, we can
- 24:18Speaker 1: be quite stubborn. Am I not headstrong
- 24:20Speaker 2: and stubborn too?
- 24:22Speaker 1: What do you want to be stubborn? I, I am. OK. Well,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I guess that's a Leo thing as well.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I could go on forever.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Oh
- 24:31Speaker 2: God, OK, let's stop you there. Uh, I want to
- 24:33Speaker 2: say good morning to Elston. Elston says, Hey guys, it
- 24:36Speaker 2: is possible to have friends with differing views. It only
- 24:40Speaker 2: depends on how mature we are to talk about it.
- 24:42Speaker 2: The discussion point is the issue, not the person.
- 24:46Speaker 2: OK, OK.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I think I, I agree and disagree. I think um
- 24:50Speaker 1: I understand Elson's point of view, but I also feel
- 24:54Speaker 1: like some people are definitely less easy to convince than
- 24:59Speaker 1: others when it comes to like trying to get your
- 25:01Speaker 1: point across, you know, and, and I'm not trying to
- 25:05Speaker 1: make you think.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Think like me. I'm trying to help you understand why
- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm saying this. Does that make sense? Like I don't
- 25:11Speaker 1: need you to agree with me, you know what I mean?
- 25:13Speaker 1: It's just be open-minded.
- 25:20Speaker 2: If you're, yeah, I think you shouldn't beliefs or rubbing
- 25:22Speaker 2: your beliefs, no, no, you must see it this
- 25:24Speaker 1: way. Well, the funny thing is that even though both
- 25:27Speaker 1: Jeremy and I are, um
- 25:32Speaker 1: We, we also, you see, when you put two headstrong
- 25:35Speaker 1: people and they get married, we tend to argue about
- 25:39Speaker 1: certain things, OK? And there was this one time we
- 25:42Speaker 1: disagreed on something so badly I started crying. And then,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and then he goes, so next time do you want
- 25:47Speaker 1: me to just agree with you?
- 25:52Speaker 1: He was like, it's OK. I just agree with you
- 25:54Speaker 1: next time. See,
- 25:55Speaker 2: here is
- 25:56Speaker 2: an example of how Sonia and I, we differ in
- 25:58Speaker 2: our beliefs when it comes to astrology, but given how
- 26:02Speaker 2: we have a sixteen-year friendship, I respect your views and
- 26:05Speaker 2: I allow you to be yourself. Oh, thank you.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Free doesn't mean I won't judge you. I won't roast
- 26:10Speaker 2: you for it. Damn rude.
- 26:12Speaker 1: This kind of don't want. If you and your friend
- 26:15Speaker 1: or friends have differing views or the way that you
- 26:18Speaker 1: express your views, um, are not the same, are you
- 26:22Speaker 1: still able to keep that friendship?
- 26:24Speaker 2: I think when I was younger, I didn't mind arguing
- 26:27Speaker 2: with it, OK, but as
- 26:29Speaker 2: I get older,
- 26:30Speaker 1: no, I want to
- 26:31Speaker 2: list something Keanu Reeves said, OK, I'm at the age
- 26:34Speaker 2: in my life now. If you tell me 2 +
- 26:35Speaker 2: 2 is 5, I'll say you're right.
- 26:38Speaker 2: OK, you're right.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I saw that meme, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well done.
- 26:41Speaker 1: So basically agree to disagree because you just don't want
- 26:43Speaker 1: to expend that energy anymore
- 26:44Speaker 2: unless it's something I feel very strongly about it's a
- 26:50Speaker 2: core belief of mine, then I'll say, hey, let's talk
- 26:52Speaker 2: about this.
- 26:54Speaker 1: To be honest, you're right, you know, like now that
- 26:56Speaker 1: I mean our listeners, right, because now that I look
- 26:58Speaker 1: back and I reflect on my friendships right now.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I, I would say 99% of the time we're all aligned.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It's only that 1% that we might get triggered about
- 27:09Speaker 1: certain things we disagree on, but it's very rare.
- 27:11Speaker 2: But aligned doesn't mean your friends are men or I'm
- 27:16Speaker 2: sure there are still differing
- 27:17Speaker 2: opinions.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Yes, differing opinions, but there's a difference when I say I.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Understand where you're coming from. I don't need to be like,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I agree with you. Oh, you know what I mean?
- 27:25Speaker 1: I understand where you're coming from, but it doesn't mean
- 27:27Speaker 1: that I'm maligned. Anyway, um, we're going to more messages first. Yes,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and we wanna say good morning to, I think your
- 27:37Speaker 2: name is Benjamin on WhatsApp.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Hey Sonia and Joakim, like the similar texter earlier, the
- 27:43Speaker 2: person who has differing opinions, my wife. But unfortunately for
- 27:47Speaker 2: my case, yes, I agree. Opening commerce
- 27:51Speaker 1: matters. Just, just for a peaceful life.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Really? Is it really happy wife, happy life?
- 27:58Speaker 1: I mean, yes, I will let me wait, hold on,
- 28:02Speaker 1: let me answer this carefully.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Um, yes, but I don't expect my partner to agree
- 28:07Speaker 1: with everything that I, you know, that I say, all
- 28:10Speaker 1: my opinions, but what I appreciate about him is that
- 28:13Speaker 1: he goes, OK, I hear you and I see where
- 28:15Speaker 1: you're coming from. I see where you're coming from. OK, OK.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Can I ask before we go to our caller, have
- 28:20Speaker 2: you ever said this phrase to Jeremy, because you said
- 28:22Speaker 2: it to me a couple of times, Hey,
- 28:24Speaker 2: can you back me up?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yes, of course.
- 28:26Speaker 2: You bang the table. Hey, can you back me up here?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Whose side are you on?
- 28:31Speaker 1: 000, this definitely happens when we're playing paddle or any
- 28:35Speaker 1: sort of like racquet sports, OK. So sorry, I digress
- 28:38Speaker 1: a little bit, but since you brought this up, ah, um, sometimes,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you know, I may not be the best person on
- 28:43Speaker 1: the court, you know, because I'm not the most athletic.
- 28:45Speaker 1: What do you mean may not be the best? I,
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm not too bad, OK, I'm not too bad. If
- 28:51Speaker 1: there's a 97 competition, I'll take part.
- 28:53Speaker 1: But anyway, um, sometimes he will be like trying to
- 28:57Speaker 1: teach the opponent some skills, especially if they're beginners. So
- 29:02Speaker 1: he's just doing it out of like, he's just a
- 29:04Speaker 1: nurturing person. So he's like, hey, no, I think you
- 29:05Speaker 1: should do this. When we step back to our positions,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I will like whisper to him in like not such
- 29:11Speaker 1: a happy tone. I'll be like, why are you teaching
- 29:12Speaker 1: the enemy?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Why, why are you imparting skills to the enemy?
- 29:19Speaker 1: FYI, the enemy is my friends lah, OK, it's like
- 29:22Speaker 1: usually our close friends.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I
- 29:26Speaker 2: have
- 29:26Speaker 2: nothing to say.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Don't you agree?
- 29:28Speaker 2: Why
- 29:28Speaker 1: would you teach the enemy skills?
- 29:30Speaker 2: OK.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Wow, we are really digressing here, man. When you, when
- 29:35Speaker 2: you beat someone, right, do you want to beat them
- 29:38Speaker 2: at their best or beat them at their most basic?
- 29:42Speaker 1: It's not my fault.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Hi.
- 29:47Speaker 2: That's not the point.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Anyway, we have Marie on the line. Marie, do you
- 29:51Speaker 1: have friends around you that, you know, you may not
- 29:54Speaker 1: necessarily be aligned in terms of your views and beliefs,
- 29:56Speaker 1: but you're still friends. What do you think about that?
- 29:59Speaker 2: Well, I tend to weed out people who have differing
- 30:02Speaker 2: views as I get older, um, but I think at
- 30:05Speaker 2: the end of the day what's really important is you
- 30:07Speaker 2: have friends who will always have your back, uh, especially
- 30:10Speaker 2: when you are.
- 30:10Speaker 2: lowest points.
- 30:11Speaker 1: So did you ever have an incident where you got,
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know, very tired of being friends with someone because
- 30:16Speaker 1: you like disagreeing? Of
- 30:18Speaker 2: course, definitely. I think throughout my whole life I had
- 30:22Speaker 2: friends in school who had differing views because they always
- 30:24Speaker 2: thought they were right. Um, and but I think at
- 30:28Speaker 2: the end of the day you're like, ah, you know,
- 30:29Speaker 2: you don't have time for that, you have other things
- 30:31Speaker 2: to worry about, especially like your, your family.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And your kids, I think they matter a lot more.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Can I be a cap and ask what was the
- 30:39Speaker 2: one topic that you and your friend disagreed over? Um,
- 30:44Speaker 2: it was actually about like Sonia, yeah, it's because for
- 30:47Speaker 2: girls usually it's about like, oh, how about this boy,
- 30:50Speaker 2: that boy, I think he's not too bad. He's earning
- 30:52Speaker 2: so much more than me. When you see a red
- 30:54Speaker 2: flag of the guy, right?
- 30:56Speaker 2: You just know that, you know, it's not the right
- 30:58Speaker 2: relationship for them, but they just don't want to listen.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I think you just respect their choice at the end
- 31:04Speaker 2: of the day.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I think
- 31:04Speaker 1: it's a case of like they already know what they want,
- 31:08Speaker 1: but they're just asking their friends out of like, so how,
- 31:10Speaker 1: but actually they already know what they want to do.
- 31:12Speaker 1: They're looking for assurance.
- 31:13Speaker 2: But you know what, not to worry, I'll be on
- 31:16Speaker 2: your side for this one. Same, same, same views, yes.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Thank you so much, Marie, for sharing that with us.
- 31:23Speaker 1: You have a fantastic day. OK.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I really wonder whether anyone stopped the wedding on the
- 31:30Speaker 2: wedding day itself.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I'm quite sure, maybe in a less dramatic fashion, but
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm sure it's happened before.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Like when the priest or the celebrant says, if whosoever
- 31:41Speaker 2: shall object to this wedding, speak now forever, yeah, yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Just kidding.
- 31:49Speaker 1: No, no, no. Coming up in a few minutes, I
- 31:51Speaker 1: have a small announcement I want to make, and um
- 31:54Speaker 1: it's related to my 987 TikTok live this evening.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I'm very disappointed you never call it the Sonia Shu, OK,
- 32:03Speaker 1: because Sonia Chew, yeah, yeah, uh, anyway, maybe that's a
- 32:09Speaker 1: part two or round two, but
- 32:11Speaker 1: Oh, I'll fill you in on why Joakim's making fun
- 32:13Speaker 1: of me in just a little while. I'm very proud
- 32:15Speaker 1: of you. Thank you so much. OK, so I just
- 32:18Speaker 1: have a small tiny little thing I want to share
- 32:20Speaker 1: with everyone.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And because, you know, on, on the show, it's almost
- 32:23Speaker 1: like an extension of our daily lives, right? Like whatever
- 32:26Speaker 1: goes on and stuff. And Joakim has just been like
- 32:28Speaker 1: cackling about this because um just yesterday on socials, and
- 32:34Speaker 1: particularly on Insta, I announced that I'm releasing a collaboration
- 32:39Speaker 1: when it comes to shoes this coming Thursday.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Not 1, not 23, right? 3 different designs.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember this, Joe. There was
- 32:47Speaker 1: one day I was kind of like touching something up
- 32:50Speaker 1: on a piece of paper in the studio, and then
- 32:52Speaker 1: you peeked over, you say, what are you drawing? Do
- 32:54Speaker 1: you remember this? This is like earlier on in the year.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Was
- 32:58Speaker 2: that what you posted online? Yeah, so that's handwriting and
- 33:01Speaker 2: part
- 33:01Speaker 1: of the sketch actually, because it was due that very day,
- 33:04Speaker 1: so I was doing a bit of like last minute
- 33:05Speaker 1: touch-ups and Joe was like, wow, why are you drawing?
- 33:08Speaker 1: Why are you drawing today?
- 33:10Speaker 1: And turns out it's shoes. So, um, to celebrate that,
- 33:13Speaker 1: I actually want to share that with you and this
- 33:15Speaker 1: evening during the TikTok Live, um, 4987, I want to
- 33:19Speaker 1: give away one pair of shoes of your choice. And
- 33:22Speaker 1: this is, of course, my collaboration with locally grown brand
- 33:26Speaker 1: Pretty Fit.
- 33:27Speaker 2: OK, come.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Yeah, 3 minutes of our time. Let me interview you.
- 33:30Speaker 2: So what's this?
- 33:32Speaker 2: This collection inspired by because I realized it's like on-air, off-air,
- 33:36Speaker 1: and on point. Yeah.
- 33:37Speaker 2: So how
- 33:38Speaker 2: do you conceptualize
- 33:39Speaker 2: this whole thing?
- 33:39Speaker 1: So, so when Pretty Fit approached me to do this collaboration,
- 33:45Speaker 1: and they're a very well-loved local brand by the way,
- 33:48Speaker 1: so a lot of like students and even like uh
- 33:50Speaker 1: office office people like they love to get their shoes
- 33:52Speaker 1: so comfortable, right?
- 33:54Speaker 1: So I, I wanted to create something that of course
- 33:57Speaker 1: is in line with my identity, but I also want
- 34:00Speaker 1: to push through the idea that whether or not you're
- 34:02Speaker 1: on air, off-air, at work, at school, and then the
- 34:05Speaker 1: moment you get off work or off your duties, you
- 34:07Speaker 1: still need to look on point. So that's, that's always
- 34:10Speaker 1: been the number one thing. That's why I came up
- 34:12Speaker 1: with flats, sneakers, and heels. OK.
- 34:15Speaker 2: So for example, if I buy all three,
- 34:19Speaker 2: for
- 34:20Speaker 2: the price of 2
- 34:21Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong.
- 34:22Speaker 1: own code on their website. Yeah, so go check it
- 34:24Speaker 1: out um to see if it's applicable for your purchases.
- 34:27Speaker 1: But I'm so excited because we designed everything from scratch,
- 34:30Speaker 1: including the packaging, the box. I wrote a hand, I
- 34:33Speaker 1: did a handwritten message in each box as well.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Shout out to your designers who did a very good
- 34:38Speaker 2: job with the box.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Actually the designer is me and one friend.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like one friend and I, and we
- 34:45Speaker 2: did that. Hey, at this point, I thought you would
- 34:46Speaker 2: have a team behind you, but it's just the two
- 34:48Speaker 2: of you. No,
- 34:49Speaker 1: it's done.
- 34:50Speaker 1: When it comes to the shoe manufacturing and designing, there's
- 34:53Speaker 1: a whole team. So, you know, I just have so
- 34:56Speaker 1: much respect for them because the Pretty fit team came
- 34:59Speaker 1: through with their expertise. I'm no expert when it comes
- 35:02Speaker 1: to like how to make shoes comfortable, um, the cutting
- 35:04Speaker 1: and everything. I just told them aesthetically what I wanted
- 35:07Speaker 1: and what I want to achieve and and they nailed it,
- 35:09Speaker 1: including the colors and everything, which is very hard to nail.
- 35:12Speaker 2: So asking for a friend in the
- 35:15Speaker 1: heels, God, I'll make for you, especially for which color
- 35:18Speaker 1: you want.
- 35:20Speaker 2: If you do it, I'll wear it.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I will. Let me go and talk to them.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Very interesting form of food news here today because I
- 35:29Speaker 1: never thought I'd see this place make the news after
- 35:34Speaker 1: so long of not being there, Joakim. This is a
- 35:37Speaker 1: place in the east side, OK, and I don't know
- 35:40Speaker 1: if you've ever heard of it. OK. No, no, no,
- 35:43Speaker 1: it's not, it's not specific to, it's not specific to
- 35:46Speaker 1: a brand or a restaurant. It's a mall. Have you
- 35:49Speaker 1: ever been to East Point Mall?
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yes, you have. Yes, I have. Wow, I'm shocked.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I think I was desperate trying to find like a
- 36:00Speaker 2: market or a grocery to go and buy something happen
- 36:01Speaker 2: to be in the I'm assuming I think.
- 36:05Speaker 1: OK, well, East Point is very far east, you know,
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's nowhere near East Coast or whatever, but anyway, I'll
- 36:10Speaker 1: fill you in because it seems like they are doing
- 36:12Speaker 1: a bit of a revamp at East Point Mall. I'm
- 36:15Speaker 1: gonna be very honest, the last time I sat there
- 36:17Speaker 1: and I actually spent time at East Point Mall was
- 36:20Speaker 1: probably in secondary school.
- 36:21Speaker 1: When there was like a Starbucks or some sort of
- 36:23Speaker 1: a Coffee Bean or Starbucks cafe there and we would
- 36:26Speaker 1: sometimes do our homework because one of our very close
- 36:29Speaker 1: friends lives around the area.
- 36:30Speaker 2: And the PlayStation repair center used to be there.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Oh, is it? OK.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember,
- 36:35Speaker 1: I'll fill you in on some of their changes food-wise
- 36:37Speaker 1: in just a bit. Stay tuned.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Taking you to East Point Mall for food news today.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Hello to our friends over at Simei. How's the air
- 36:45Speaker 2: like over there? 123. Food. wait, happy or sad?
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's good. They're revamping.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Food news.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Food news. Sonia with the good food news. Simei Tai.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Yes, Joe, thank you, thank you very much. I think
- 37:00Speaker 1: it's
- 37:01Speaker 2: your joke. Did I ever say when did I say
- 37:04Speaker 2: that when we used to do joke videos did I say? OK,
- 37:09Speaker 1: OK, now it's funny anyway.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Deja vu moment. I was like, it sounds familiar. Um,
- 37:16Speaker 1: I can't believe Joki has such great memory when it
- 37:17Speaker 1: comes to these things. Thank you. Yeah. So East Point
- 37:20Speaker 1: Mall used to be a place where my friends and
- 37:22Speaker 1: I would go like study after school because one of
- 37:25Speaker 1: my very close friends at the time, she lived near Simei, OK,
- 37:29Speaker 1: so we would go there, study, then go to a
- 37:30Speaker 1: place to like eat dinner or something like that.
- 37:33Speaker 2: How is East Point Mall to Saint Anthony's? Is it
- 37:35Speaker 2: like a
- 37:35Speaker 1: bus? Yeah, you can take a bus or you can
- 37:37Speaker 1: take a train.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I would say, um, Saint Anthony's is closer to like
- 37:42Speaker 1: Bedok area, but it's not too far out, I guess,
- 37:44Speaker 1: so still not so bad. But anyway, um, they were
- 37:48Speaker 1: due a revamp for a long time. I will, I
- 37:50Speaker 1: will say that. Even my mom who sometimes thinks like, oh,
- 37:53Speaker 1: maybe you should go explore different malls in the east, right?
- 37:56Speaker 1: She's like, East Point Mall, nothing much. So now.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Now they've actually gone through a bit of a revamp. Um,
- 38:03Speaker 1: I stopped by there quite recently for um to meet someone.
- 38:08Speaker 1: And everything was quite unrecognizable and I think they were
- 38:12Speaker 1: still filling in new tenants in a good way, in
- 38:14Speaker 1: a good way. So here, here are some things that
- 38:16Speaker 1: you can try over at East Point Mall as curated
- 38:19Speaker 1: by our friends from 8 Days
- 38:20Speaker 2: Eats. Yeah,
- 38:24Speaker 1: no, no, come on, come on, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 38:25Speaker 1: This one, I think they will have it at some point. Actually,
- 38:29Speaker 2: yes,
- 38:29Speaker 1: there's a mala place.
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's called a hot hideout, the Singaporean kind of mala.
- 38:35Speaker 1: That's their tagline, OK. Um, I guess it's less of
- 38:37Speaker 1: an imitation of the Sichuan mala. It's more, um, curated
- 38:41Speaker 1: for our local palate. So, so you might find, yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 1: actually you might find some of that. Um, they have
- 38:46Speaker 1: the mala collagen soup that looks a bit like laksa,
- 38:49Speaker 1: to be honest, or you can go dry with a
- 38:50Speaker 1: mala stir-fry, um, and they've also got their.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Own tomato collagen soup and the um non-spicy alternatives as well,
- 38:58Speaker 1: but you can choose from over 70 different ingredients so
- 39:01Speaker 1: spoilt for choice there. Yeah. Something else that you might
- 39:04Speaker 1: want to take note of, um, a quick detour to
- 39:06Speaker 1: Taiwan is Si Men Jie delivering Taiwanese classics. So you know,
- 39:10Speaker 1: like lurofan, um, the miso, oyster misoan, the chicken cutlet,
- 39:14Speaker 1: all that, they have that there as well. So.
- 39:16Speaker 1: It's hard to choose because I love the miso and
- 39:18Speaker 1: I love um the Lurofan as well.
- 39:21Speaker 2: OK,
- 39:21Speaker 1: yummy. There's a halal cafe for everyone as well. Um,
- 39:25Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, this one is called the Tree Cafe. Yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 1: the
- 39:29Speaker 1: Tree Cafe.
- 39:30Speaker 2: So I'm on Google Maps. I'm looking at where East
- 39:32Speaker 2: Point Mall is, right? Unfortunately for East Point Mall, you're
- 39:36Speaker 2: in the middle of Tampines Mall and Changi City Point.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Yes,
- 39:42Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, if people don't want to go to the mall,
- 39:43Speaker 2: they'll go to either I guess.
- 39:44Speaker 1: By the way, there's an additional, um, really cool point
- 39:48Speaker 1: here for those aged 50 and above, so you can
- 39:50Speaker 1: tell your parents. You can register your birth year in
- 39:53Speaker 1: the free Fraser's Experience app and you actually unlock selected
- 39:57Speaker 1: dining deals for those above 50. I'm going, but for
- 40:01Speaker 1: above 50 only that one.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Bring your mom there, but there's, um, nothing normal in
- 40:07Speaker 1: this next particular announcement. Hey,
- 40:09Speaker 2: the agency that funded founded BTS, they are having auditions
- 40:13Speaker 2: for males here in Singapore. So I come here to
- 40:17Speaker 2: stand a Xiao Ming or a Khairul or a Vinod.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Go guys, pursue your dreams if you
- 40:23Speaker 2: want to.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Honestly, this would be really cool. I can't wait to
- 40:25Speaker 1: see because usually it's always quite focused on the females, right?
- 40:28Speaker 1: So now I want to see the kind of guys
- 40:30Speaker 1: that come for the auditions.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Singaporean being as big as BTS, that'll be amazing.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so can you imagine like what what would
- 40:37Speaker 1: the next, um, big K-pop act be called, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 1: like the next band or Glenn Yong,
- 40:43Speaker 2: where are you.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I haven't seen Glenn Yong dance before. Have you?
- 40:48Speaker 2: Have you seen him dance?
- 40:49Speaker 2: I'm sure with training and practice.
- 40:51Speaker 1: It's possible. Alright. Anyway, on that note, thank you so
- 40:54Speaker 1: much for joining us today. We had so much fun. Um,
- 40:56Speaker 1: if you want to catch up with all the laughs
- 40:58Speaker 1: and the best bits of our show, it's gonna be
- 41:00Speaker 1: on me Listen and Spotify, and we will catch you
- 41:02Speaker 1: tomorrow at 6 a.m.
