- 0:00Speaker 1: Heylon take some of those freaking billions in higher on receptionist.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's one more thing.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm all for elon loss taking games for all directions
- 0:11Speaker 2: these days.
- 0:12Speaker 1: So quick stock thing I am. I'm very young, in
- 0:18Speaker 1: many years from retirement, so I don't follow the stock
- 0:20Speaker 1: market on a daily basis. I mean, I got my
- 0:22Speaker 1: four one K, I got my you know, my investments
- 0:25Speaker 1: and I assume I don't need to touch them are
- 0:26Speaker 1: quite for quite some time.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The way Joe shuddered at the way you said that, very.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Young, But how many people know this? The economic growth,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the stock market gains of the last couple of years
- 0:41Speaker 1: are almost entirely because of the magnificent seven stocks seven stocks,
- 0:48Speaker 1: although the records that we set on a regular basis
- 0:51Speaker 1: are because of Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsauce and video.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And that's it. I mean, that's almost the entirety of
- 1:05Speaker 1: the giant stock market gain that's made everybody feel wealthy
- 1:08Speaker 1: and all to talk about the successful economy and blah
- 1:12Speaker 1: blah blah. All the ripple effects of the stock market
- 1:16Speaker 1: records and how great things are going, are really these
- 1:19Speaker 1: seven tech stocks?
- 1:22Speaker 2: That is sobering.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'd say, given that, for instance, Tesla's dropped by fifty
- 1:27Speaker 1: percent since December, and it was built on a gesture anyway,
- 1:33Speaker 1: so it could fall on a gesture. I would think
- 1:36Speaker 1: sentiment much more than earnings, right, I think that's interesting, Okay,
- 1:41Speaker 1: which leads me into Elon Wanst. I hire a freaking receptionist.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So I was test driving some Tesla's the other day,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and everything that comes out of Silicon Valley, they're trying
- 1:55Speaker 1: to get away from human beings as much as possible
- 1:58Speaker 1: and have everything be on line or an app. We
- 2:01Speaker 1: all know that noticed and for some stuff that works,
- 2:05Speaker 1: but not everything, and maybe someday all will work, but
- 2:08Speaker 1: it's not there yet, and it's driven me crazy as
- 2:11Speaker 1: a Tesla driver that you can't get a hold of
- 2:14Speaker 1: a human being ever. It's just impossible. If you actually
- 2:17Speaker 1: have a question about something, you can do all kinds
- 2:19Speaker 1: of really cool things, like I can you know, I
- 2:21Speaker 1: could go in and order a car the way I
- 2:23Speaker 1: want it and have it delivered to my home like
- 2:26Speaker 1: in a couple of days without ever talking to anybody.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Or everything you do online in the PaperWorks, I mean,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so many service appointments, all kinds of stuff that's just
- 2:34Speaker 1: amazingly efficient, but like, if you have a question outside
- 2:39Speaker 1: of that, you can't talk to a human being.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Now, well, I tell I tell you what this is
- 2:44Speaker 2: strictly apocketphal tale made up from my fertile imagination. But
- 2:48Speaker 2: say you had a I don't know a company series
- 2:50Speaker 2: of companies that eliminated like all the HR people, and
- 2:55Speaker 2: you had a portal instead, you had a website right
- 2:57Speaker 2: post to click on, and the only blank way anything
- 3:01Speaker 2: ever happens is when you give up because it never works,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and you call the number and the human who is
- 3:07Speaker 2: a backup to the main system says, oh, yeah, we
- 3:09Speaker 2: can take care of that.
- 3:10Speaker 1: That's exactly the example, except for with the Silicon Valley crowd,
- 3:14Speaker 1: including right Elon and Tesla, they don't have that human backup.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That doesn't exist point exactly.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So that takes some balls.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So if you end up in one of those things
- 3:22Speaker 1: where it's not accepting your password or it says we
- 3:24Speaker 1: already have that address, please you to create a new
- 3:27Speaker 1: account or whatever, you know, just one of those things
- 3:30Speaker 1: that drive you there's nobody to call. Along those lines,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I booked a test drive with a couple of different
- 3:37Speaker 1: Teslas because I'm thinking about getting out of mine is
- 3:40Speaker 1: my Behemoth son is too tall to sit in the
- 3:42Speaker 1: back seat now, and I need a car that they
- 3:44Speaker 1: all fit in. So I'm either going to get the
- 3:47Speaker 1: X with more legroom or the cyber truck. So another
- 3:50Speaker 1: one of the examples of it working well went on
- 3:52Speaker 1: the app booked a demo gazillion different times, but multiple
- 3:57Speaker 1: locations book demos, show up car is there ready for
- 4:02Speaker 1: me to go as soon as I walk, as soon
- 4:04Speaker 1: as I park and walk up to it, and then
- 4:06Speaker 1: and a salesperson just logs me in and I'd drive off.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's I mean, it could.
- 4:10Speaker 3: It's so amazing And the only human interaction is the
- 4:13Speaker 3: salesperson logging you in.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And I wouldn't even have to do that if I
- 4:16Speaker 1: didn't want to. But I'm interested in buying these vehicles,
- 4:19Speaker 1: and uh, nobody rides with me. You got a half
- 4:22Speaker 1: hour to do whatever you want. You just go driving
- 4:24Speaker 1: around because if you put all your information in there,
- 4:26Speaker 1: it's really really cool. Anyway, on this particular one, he said,
- 4:29Speaker 1: we can't find the key. It's the key for a
- 4:31Speaker 1: Tesla is like a credit card unless you have the app.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And we can't find the key, he said, I'll unlock it.
- 4:37Speaker 1: For you. You can go driving around, just don't get
- 4:39Speaker 1: out or you'll be locked out. Okay, I don't need
- 4:42Speaker 1: to get up. I get in the truck. Me and
- 4:44Speaker 1: Henry are in the cyber truck. We're out driving around.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I really love this thing. The stereo is awesome. But
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm driving around, but my seat's too far back and
- 4:52Speaker 1: the steering wheels too far up. So I pull over
- 4:53Speaker 1: to adjust that stuff. And it won't let me drive
- 4:57Speaker 1: after that for some reason because I don't have the
- 4:59Speaker 1: key and I.
- 5:00Speaker 2: He didn't get out, You just like put it in part.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Right, But and you didn't turn the car off. No, Well,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you don't really turn a Tesla on, right, don't. It's
- 5:08Speaker 1: always on basically anyway.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Also, that drained the battery.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I pull over. I just my stringle whenever like that,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and then I can't put it back and drive again.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And uh. And We're a long way from the dealership
- 5:20Speaker 1: on Interstate eighty in the Bay Area and I'm just
- 5:24Speaker 1: pulled over to the side of the road, cars driving
- 5:27Speaker 1: by that sort of thing, and uh, And I think, okay, well,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and I knew this is going to be a problem.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I got to try to call the dealership. It is impossible.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I've tried this before alongside the road with a flat
- 5:40Speaker 1: tire or various things. It's impossible. And I tried for
- 5:44Speaker 1: twenty minutes, and I finally told Henry, I said, we're
- 5:47Speaker 1: gonna gett We're gonna get a lift. So I order
- 5:49Speaker 1: a lift, you know, the uber type company, only it's
- 5:53Speaker 1: called Lyft. And he comes and picks me up alongside
- 5:56Speaker 1: the road and they take me back to the test
- 5:58Speaker 1: of dealership and they dropped me off and I said,
- 6:00Speaker 1: your cyber truck is about ten miles that way along
- 6:03Speaker 1: eyeside to I eighty. You might want to go get it.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And they looked all panicked and everything like that. I said,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't let me drive, and I couldn't call anybody.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I was so freaking mad, and I thought, have a
- 6:13Speaker 1: GD receptionist. How much would that cost you? One human
- 6:17Speaker 1: being that can answer the phone, make a minimum wage
- 6:20Speaker 1: throughout the day, elon one freaking human being. But it's funny.
- 6:24Speaker 1: The Uber driver who picked me up, and this is
- 6:26Speaker 1: what made me really think about it. It's the Silicon
- 6:29Speaker 1: Valley myopic view of the world. The Uber driver guy,
- 6:34Speaker 1: I said, I told him what happened. He said, that's
- 6:36Speaker 1: the way it is with this company. I said, it's fine,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you can do everything through the app. You log in
- 6:40Speaker 1: your hours and you pick up your car and blah
- 6:42Speaker 1: blah blah, and you get paid in your fun. But
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you ever need to talk to anybody, impossible. They're
- 6:46Speaker 1: no human beings anywhere. And it's so the Silicon Valley's
- 6:50Speaker 1: got this view that we just flat don't need humans.
- 6:53Speaker 1: You can do everything through the app. And I wish
- 6:55Speaker 1: they'd recognize that we're not there yet. Maybe we bill
- 6:59Speaker 1: be some day with AI that can solve more complicated problems,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but we're just not And it makes me not makes.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Me yeah, yeah, there their self regard their belief that
- 7:10Speaker 2: they can code their way to solve anything confronting humanity,
- 7:15Speaker 2: and it's it's hubris.
- 7:16Speaker 1: There is there is a There is a Hubris and
- 7:19Speaker 1: we're smarter than the world thing going on with the
- 7:22Speaker 1: Silicon Valley crowd. That scares me a bit.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Combine that with the U is there a name for this?
- 7:28Speaker 2: We've talked about it through the years. You have somebody
- 7:31Speaker 2: who already understands the system, use the system, and then
- 7:35Speaker 2: they say, yep, consumers will be fine with this. You know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: the guy like wrote the programming is clicking around the website. Yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 2: this website perfect. Then you was somebody who has no
- 7:44Speaker 2: idea what you jump on the website, and it's utterly
- 7:47Speaker 2: unclear to you where to go? Where where am I
- 7:49Speaker 2: supposed to click? What's what's? None of these menu items
- 7:54Speaker 2: are like real world terminology for what I want to do.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, that's a UI problem because I know somebody who
- 8:00Speaker 1: used to do that for various companies in Silicon Valley
- 8:04Speaker 1: User interface and there are people that that's their job.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But like the person I know who did that was
- 8:09Speaker 1: such a brainiac computer nerd. I mean they didn't they
- 8:12Speaker 1: didn't think about it the way normal people think. Sit
- 8:15Speaker 1: down and look at an app. You know, so it's
- 8:17Speaker 1: the dropdown menu. Where's the drop done up there? You
- 8:20Speaker 1: click on this and you bring it. I would have
- 8:22Speaker 1: never known that unless you showed me. I would have
- 8:24Speaker 1: never figured that out.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you have these companies that like assume they know
- 8:28Speaker 3: the problems you're having. Like I had this issue with
- 8:30Speaker 3: DoorDash recently where something went wrong with you.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Another example, good luck trying to called door dash.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and you go on there and you click help
- 8:38Speaker 3: and then they have a series of options of what
- 8:40Speaker 3: they think might have gone wrong, and you're like, it's
- 8:43Speaker 3: none of these.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Ye oh, that makes me insane. Here are the seven
- 8:46Speaker 1: things that could have happened to you? No, and then
- 8:49Speaker 1: they send you.
- 8:50Speaker 3: They send you to the frequently asked question did this help? No,
- 8:53Speaker 3: it didn't help, Thank you.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 1: God. We had a funny video we were all enjoying
- 8:58Speaker 1: the other day of Larry David screaming it's Siri in
- 9:00Speaker 1: his car because they couldn't book a restaurant or something
- 9:03Speaker 1: like that. But I have I have actually done that
- 9:05Speaker 1: many times when they when when the nice computer voice
- 9:11Speaker 1: lady says to you, are you satisfied with your experience?
- 9:15Speaker 1: Not having satisfied with my experience? You got? It makes
- 9:18Speaker 1: you so mad?
- 9:20Speaker 2: You know, I got an example, but I don't. I
- 9:22Speaker 2: find myself not even wanting to bring it up because
- 9:25Speaker 2: I feel the texhaustion flood over me. And that's some
- 9:29Speaker 2: you know, fairly complicated music recording software that I use.
- 9:34Speaker 2: There's something you know, I'm trying to figure out how
- 9:37Speaker 2: to do. And if you even Google like her search, sorry,
- 9:41Speaker 2: I don't Google anymore. They're evil.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:42Speaker 2: If you do a search on this software, this problem.
- 9:48Speaker 2: It'll take you to like a message board that has
- 9:51Speaker 2: videos posted by anonymous yeaus, right, some of which are
- 9:56Speaker 2: conceivably relevant to the problem, but most of which are not,
- 10:00Speaker 2: And you'd have to watch every single one of them.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And it's just, how do you not have some sort
- 10:05Speaker 2: of in essence as searchable manual?
- 10:08Speaker 1: Why do you know?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Is that not cool these days? Better to have a
- 10:12Speaker 2: forum of users who may or may not have any
- 10:15Speaker 2: idea what they're effing talking about.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yes, now, I suppose any of these Silicon Valley geniuses
- 10:20Speaker 1: would say to me, there's a reason where the seven
- 10:23Speaker 1: most valuable companies in the world. We know what we're doing.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Trust us. But god dang it, Oh, I just I
- 10:30Speaker 1: can't imagine you can't call a human being at the location.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's not physically possible. That's nuts,
- 10:40Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 10:40Speaker 3: That's exhausting.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think you went above and beyond the call of
- 10:43Speaker 2: duty going back to the dealership and telling them what happened,
- 10:48Speaker 2: although you know you don't want to be have the
- 10:50Speaker 2: red and blue lights in front of your house.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Just take a left home, leave there underrest.
- 10:55Speaker 2: For grand theft. Auto mccuay whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Well, the car I drove was still at the dealership,
- 11:04Speaker 1: so I had because I showed up in a car,
- 11:06Speaker 1: so I had to go back to get my car. Otherwise, Yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I would have just gone home. This is your problem.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Sounds like a you problem to me.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, exactly. Elon, have one of your many children.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Man the Swiss board. Huh, get a little shot. Labor
- 11:22Speaker 2: gone why not?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
