  TV show The Good Doctor has been getting a lot of controversy

  around autism because of some memes falling out of the

  Internet. Let's get into guys.

  Welcome back to the Aspy world. My name is Dan and they have

  autism and ADHD. Make weekly videos all about

  So I've been seeing loads of memes about the good doctor on
• 1:08
  the Internet. And I thought, OK, whatever, you
• 1:10
  know, and they're related to this TV show and the TV show was
• 1:12
  called the good doctor. Now the Good Doctor is a show
• 1:15
  that is portraying the life of a young medical director or a a
• 1:20
  physician who is on the auto suspension, but is highly
• 1:23
  gifted, highly talented. And he goes to this hospital and
• 1:26
  he's like just really good at what he does.
• 1:28
  However, the show features the main character who has these
• 1:32
  doctor skills and he has, you know, social interaction
• 1:34
  mannerisms that are kind of unique and, and and subject to
• 1:37
  kind of autism because in it they talk about him being on the
• 1:41
  autism spectrum. But then some of the
• 1:42
  characteristics obviously are, are not all the characteristics
• 1:45
  of autism and not everybody with autism will display like this
• 1:47
  guy. However, a lot of the memes have
• 1:50
  been coming out basically saying that the stereotypes of autism
• 1:54
  are being kind of damaged because all it's damaging the
• 1:57
  autism community that the stereotypes of autism are coming
• 1:59
  out in memes like the how he cries or how he outbursts or how
• 2:02
  he has emotional, I don't know, like, you know, meltdowns and
• 2:05
  stuff like that. Some of the individuals from who
• 2:07
  are autism advocates express their concerns about the means
• 2:11
  portraying the stereotypes and the trivializing changes faced
• 2:14
  by people with autism. I'm basically saying that like,
• 2:16
  because autism has very serious implications and has very
• 2:19
  serious issues with like meltdowns and burnout and things
• 2:22
  like that. By creating memes out of those
• 2:25
  and you kind of delegitimize the the issues and struggles of
• 2:28
  people on office and kind of go through.
• 2:29
  And I kind of get it. I get what trying to say.
• 2:32
  At the same time, I think it's just a meme and it's kind of
• 2:34
  like throwaway, but I can understand how that would kind
• 2:37
  of be detrimental to somebody and how somebody could take that
• 2:39
  really offensively or somebody could just take that and feel
• 2:41
  quite, you know, down about sort of making fun of their their
• 2:45
  condition. Now, whatever the the scope is,
• 2:47
  I think what this is doing is raising awareness of the show
• 2:50
  the good Doctor, which I think is pretty decent.
• 2:52
  It's a good show. And by doing that, you're
• 2:54
  raising awareness of autism and people becoming more
• 2:57
  understanding of the issues that autism people face.
• 2:59
  So I think there's good and bad on both parts of this.

  I think it's good for outreach and good to spread the message
• 3:04
  of autism. But I think maybe the way it's
• 3:06
  being handled is, is is difficult.
• 3:08
  So maybe we should start good campaigns for autism and unhappy
• 3:11
  campaigns for autism, showing how kind of, you know, the
• 3:14
  struggles are real and the struggles are really difficult
• 3:16
