- 0:00Wow, what a day.
- 0:03Good evening, Grace Harbor.
- 0:05It's Dan and I hope you all are doing well.
- 0:08I am honestly,
- 0:12tired, but it's a good tired.
- 0:16You know, like when you're tired from doing something fun
- 0:19or being super helpful.
- 0:21I drove all over town today picking up 500 fresh
- 0:25baked cookies for the tree lighting tomorrow.
- 0:27My car smelled AMAZING.
- 0:30And can I be honest with you?
- 0:33We might only be handing out
- 0:36499 cookies tomorrow
- 0:39because I just had to sneak one.
- 0:42But I'm happy to report that I did not get a flat tire. And outside
- 0:47of the cookie pick up taking about 20 minutes longer than I planned,
- 0:51I got them all back to church where another team of amazing
- 0:55volunteers was waiting to get them all on trays for the event.
- 0:59And because they were so organized, we can all sleep
- 1:03well tonight knowing that we're ready to go.
- 1:06That is, if you can sleep the night
- 1:08before one of your favorite events of the year!
- 1:11I'm sure you've been so excited about something that you've had trouble
- 1:15getting to sleep.
- 1:16You know, like on, I don't know... Christmas Eve.
- 1:20But enough about my day.
- 1:22How was yours?
- 1:24Do you remember this morning when we time traveled in our imagination?
- 1:28Well, we've arrived at that moment for real.
- 1:31The day is ending.
- 1:33You might be finishing up dinner or it's bedtime.
- 1:36This morning, we picked out a word we hoped would describe our day today.
- 1:41Mine was “organized.”
- 1:43What was yours?
- 1:45Now take a moment to think about your actual day.
- 1:49Was your word a good fit for today?
- 1:52If not, what word would you pick instead?
- 1:56Take a moment to share with your family.
- 1:58And as always, if you need more time, you can pause the podcast
- 2:02and I'll be right here when you get back.
- 2:23My hope
- 2:23is that no matter how your day ended up, the words
- 2:27you chose to carry with you into the day helped you stay focused.
- 2:31For example, maybe your word was “fun,”
- 2:34but the most fun thing you were looking forward to didn't happen.
- 2:38Instead of letting that bum you out, maybe your focus on
- 2:41fun helped you look for fun in other places.
- 2:45Or maybe that fun thing did happen, and it made it
- 2:48feel even more fun than normal because it was your focus today.
- 2:53Okay, before we say goodnight,
- 2:56let's close by thinking of one thing we're grateful for.
- 2:59You don't need to share it out loud,
- 3:01but think of something you want to say thank you to God for.
- 3:05It could be a person, a pet, a place,
- 3:10an experience you had today, or really anything.
- 3:14As you hold that thing you're grateful for in mind,
- 3:17let's pray together.
- 3:19If you want to, you can close your eyes or fold your hands.
- 3:22Or if you've
- 3:23got a little bit more energy to get out, I promise God still hears wiggly prayers.
- 3:29Dear God,
- 3:29we thank you for this day and for all of your blessings.
- 3:33As we spend the next couple of weeks getting ready for Christmas,
- 3:37prepare our hearts to celebrate it for what it truly is:
- 3:41a sign of your deep love for us.
- 3:44We pray that you would give us a good night's sleep tonight,
- 3:47so that we can wake up tomorrow rested and refreshed
- 3:51and ready to be more like the people you made us to be.
- 3:54Amen.
- 3:56All right,
- 3:57good night, Grace Harbor.
- 3:58I'll talk to you in the morning.
