- 0:12Hello friends, it's shown here. It's Monday, it's the 17th of
- 0:17June. Yes, it is June.
- 0:20Boy, that's not a good sign, is it?
- 0:21No, it is due, definitely, and it's great to have your company.
- 0:25Hope you're doing well. Hope this week ahead is looking
- 0:27like a good one for you. Ah, this week we're going to
- 0:30cover a lot of ground, friend. We are going to finish off the
- 0:33book of Ecclesiastes over the next couple of days and then we
- 0:37are going to crack open Luther's least favourite epistle.
- 0:41Yes, we're going to be reading through James.
- 0:43Have you been going along to Saint Clements with me over the
- 0:46last month or so? We've been having a series all
- 0:50about James, and this is going to be great to get to read
- 0:54through it all together in one go.
- 0:56And then friends, we are going to settle in and read through
- 1:01the Gospel of John and spend, well, months reading through the
- 1:05New Testament, First and 2nd Corinthians.
- 1:08It's going to be great. We're going to have time with
- 1:11Jesus, time with his disciples, time with his apostles, and oh,
- 1:15the things God's Spirit is going to awaken in us as we read his
- 1:21word together. How exciting.
- 1:24Well, that's all to come. But today, today we're going to
- 1:28read this second last chapter of Ecclesiastes, where the author
- 1:32gets, well, a little bit sentimental and starts giving
- 1:35advice about how best to live. After all of his contemplation
- 1:41and asking of questions here, he starts to get a little bit
- 1:45practical for us. So friends, gather round.
- 1:48Let us sit at the feet of the teacher at the Coachella as we
- 1:53read together Ecclesiastes Chapter 11.
- 2:07Send your grain across the seas, and in time profits will flow
- 2:11back to you. But divide your investments
- 2:14among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie
- 2:18ahead. When clouds are heavy, the rains
- 2:21come down. Whether a tree falls north or
- 2:24South, it stays where it falls. Farmers who wait for perfect
- 2:30weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they
- 2:34never harvest. Just as you cannot understand
- 2:38the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing
- 2:41in its mother's womb, so you cannot understand the activity
- 2:46of God who does all things. Plant your seed in the morning
- 2:51and keep busy all afternoon, for you don't know if profit will
- 2:55come from one activity or another, or maybe both.
- 3:00Light is sweet. How pleasant to see a new day
- 3:05dawning When people live to be very old.
- 3:09Let them rejoice in every day of life, but let them also remember
- 3:15there will be many dark days, everything still to come.
- 3:20His meaningless young people. It's wonderful to be young.
- 3:26Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to take
- 3:31it all in, but remember that you must give an account to God for
- 3:36everything you do. So I refuse to worry and keep
- 3:40your body healthy, but remember that youth with a whole life
- 3:45before you is meaningless. Our Lord, here we see this
- 4:00encouragement to hold our lives lightly and to revel in every
- 4:08moment that You bless us with. That we can see the sunrise and
- 4:13thank you for a new day. That we can reflect on a life
- 4:17well lived and we can thank You for each one of those days and
- 4:22celebrate all the little things along the way.
- 4:25Ah Lord, you bless us with so many good things every day.
- 4:32Thank you for the lives that you have given us.
- 4:35Thank you for your Kingdom that you invite us into.
- 4:39Thank you for your love that you lavish on us would help us to
- 4:44find contentment in these simple things.
- 4:49And as we go through life, all those big goals ahead of us, God
- 4:55help us hold them lightly as we ultimately rest in you and your
- 5:00provision and your plans for us that we don't understand.
- 5:03And we won't know what's around the corner.
- 5:06But we know that you do, and we know that you have our best
- 5:09interest at heart. And so we rest in you, your love
- 5:14and your provision, our loving Father and our beautiful
- 5:19Saviour, in whose name we pray. All of these things, I'm in.
