Use of “Heaven” in Scripture.
Perspectival Influences to our perception of Heaven:
Progressive utopia. This is the liberal vision that became the social gospel which emphasized social and not gospel to the neglect of the future Kingdom ramifications of God’s final victory.
Body/Soul dualism. This is the Platonic vision which influenced the early Gnostics who claim that the body (matter) is evil and that the ideas (soul/spirit) are good and what will last forever.
