Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's been a while.
- 0:01Speaker 2: He's in town.
- 0:02Speaker 3: Since I heard Mature, If I Was.
- 0:04Speaker 1: He's in town.
- 0:05Speaker 2: He's in town on his catalogue, The Hits Tour. He's
- 0:08Speaker 2: at the Astor Theatre tonight. Bad news, it is sold out.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Good news for him. If you are going, you can
- 0:14Speaker 2: enjoy a set list that spans his entire career from
- 0:18Speaker 2: Rich kids to Thin Lizzy to Ultravox and Visage. You know,
- 0:21Speaker 2: choosing between Ultravox's Vienna and Visage's Fade to Grey.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Pretty hard.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Is like choosing your favourite child or pet.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Two very iconic songs from that very early 80s period.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I was like, gee, there was a lot of make-up.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Yes.
- 0:36Speaker 3: There was a lot of make-up and a lot of synthesiser.
- 0:37Speaker 2: A lot of make-up.
- 0:38Speaker 3: And, of course, he was with Thin Lizzy as well,
- 0:40Speaker 3: as you said, but The other thing about Midgeua that
- 0:43Speaker 3: many people don't know, because he was kind of more
- 0:44Speaker 3: in the background, well, he co-wrote Do They Know It's Christmas?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:49Speaker 3: And he co-organised Live Aid.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Yes.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Only the biggest concert event in music history.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yes, because Bob Geldof, of course, likes to talk about himself,
- 0:59Speaker 2: but he wasn't the only.
- 1:02Speaker 1: One putting that together. No, Midge was happy to just
- 1:04Speaker 1: kind of hang back in the background. Which is a
- 1:06Speaker 1: little more subtle. Pivotal point.
- 1:08Speaker 3: But yeah, so Mitch is in town. Here he is
- 1:12Speaker 3: talking about how he puts such a wide, varied set
- 1:16Speaker 3: list together and understanding that within one crowd, he actually
- 1:20Speaker 3: has two different audiences that he needs to please.
- 1:24Speaker 4: There's a lot to get through. I mean, the wonders
- 1:27Speaker 4: of social media, the good stuff is that people tell
- 1:29Speaker 4: you what they'd like to hear or what you haven't heard.
- 1:32Speaker 4: And you've got to think, well, there are certain songs
- 1:34Speaker 4: that you've kind of got to play they expect it
- 1:37Speaker 4: 50 of the audience don't really want to be there
- 1:39Speaker 4: because they're there with other halves who do want to
- 1:42Speaker 4: be there so they're just being polite and they might
- 1:45Speaker 4: only know the big hits so you think i've got
- 1:47Speaker 4: to cater for them as well they've got to hear
- 1:49Speaker 4: something that resonates with them and so you've got the
- 1:53Speaker 4: old stuff you've got the stuff that you want to
- 1:55Speaker 4: play you get the stuff that the hardcore fans want
- 1:58Speaker 4: to play which might be different from the new people
- 2:01Speaker 4: that have come on board because they've heard your music
- 2:03Speaker 4: on a video game or on a Netflix movie or something.
- 2:07Speaker 4: So you've got to try and tick all those boxes
- 2:09Speaker 4: for a person, but you've still got to make yourself happy.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Midge is Scottish, by the way, if you hadn't picked
- 2:16Speaker 1: that up.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Welcome to town, Midge. Great show tonight at 7 o'clock
- 2:21Speaker 2: because we's old.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I love that.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It's an early matinee show.
