- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, Hi is this Ron?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yes, Hi Ron, This is Amanda and Game from Big
- 0:06Speaker 2: ninety eight point seven.
- 0:07Speaker 1: How are you doing this morning?
- 0:08Speaker 3: Fine?
- 0:09Speaker 1: Do you have a second to chat with us on
- 0:12Speaker 1: the radio?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Sure, I know, little hesitant, you're probably thinking, what in
- 0:17Speaker 2: the world are you guys calling about?
- 0:20Speaker 3: What? Yeah, what's going on?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Well?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Ron, we heard from a little birdie that you have
- 0:26Speaker 2: been going through just a rough few months with your
- 0:30Speaker 2: wife Paige.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Can you kind of fill us in with what's been
- 0:32Speaker 1: going on?
- 0:33Speaker 3: A sure? So randomly. Apparently Paige has some gene mutations
- 0:39Speaker 3: that we didn't know about that a couple of years
- 0:42Speaker 3: ago ended up with her, unfortunately, throwing up buckets of
- 0:46Speaker 3: blood one morning. Thanks, and yeah, that's that's Amazingly, it's
- 0:53Speaker 3: the quickest way to get into a room at the
- 0:55Speaker 3: EERS when you show up with a bucket of blood.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I can imagine we been living with a couple of years.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Every now and then she would throw a blood, we'd
- 1:03Speaker 3: go to the hospital for some endoscopy. In a couple
- 1:07Speaker 3: of days we'd be out. But unfortunately, there was a
- 1:11Speaker 3: few more things started happening. She started having a lot
- 1:15Speaker 3: of fluid in her stomach area, and pretty soon that
- 1:19Speaker 3: stomach all that fluid got a massive infection, and they
- 1:24Speaker 3: actually didn't know what was going on, so they just
- 1:26Speaker 3: started throwing every antibiotic they could onto an IV pole
- 1:31Speaker 3: and just kept going for a couple of weeks, and
- 1:35Speaker 3: unfortunately the whole time, Page was actually in quite a
- 1:38Speaker 3: lot of pain, getting lots of pain medications and opioids
- 1:42Speaker 3: and whatnot through an IV and just kind of trying
- 1:45Speaker 3: to have to live with it for a couple of
- 1:46Speaker 3: weeks to see what was going on.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And oh my gosh, right now, Page is very young.
- 1:51Speaker 2: She is only what thirty one?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, she's only thirty one years old, and
- 1:56Speaker 3: having to deal with this completely random. It's apparently what
- 2:00Speaker 3: happens is with gene mutation. It's just completely random. There's
- 2:05Speaker 3: nothing that says in your family history just can happen.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It was an emotional rollercoaster because every time you thought
- 2:11Speaker 2: she was getting better.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean there was a point where she was put
- 2:15Speaker 1: on hospice.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it was the weekend before I thought she was
- 2:21Speaker 3: doing great because she wasn't taking as pain medications as often,
- 2:24Speaker 3: and I was thinking we were finally around the corner.
- 2:27Speaker 3: And then it was the Tuesday after that weekend, all
- 2:31Speaker 3: of a sudden something happened. The pain got worse and
- 2:33Speaker 3: it won't go away, and so they finally did another
- 2:37Speaker 3: CT scan and they thought after everything that a portion
- 2:41Speaker 3: of her small intestine had died. And unfortunately, with what
- 2:47Speaker 3: the gene thing she has, she has two blood clots.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And they say, yeah, we can go in and fix
- 2:53Speaker 3: the portion that may have died, but that clot will
- 2:55Speaker 3: just keep killing more intestines. And we checked with Sandford
- 3:01Speaker 3: and Mayo and University of Minnesota, and no surgical team
- 3:05Speaker 3: even wanted to try because to try to physically remove
- 3:09Speaker 3: that cloud had a mortality rate of about ninety eight
- 3:12Speaker 3: percent and they told us she'll probably bleed out on
- 3:15Speaker 3: the table, and so surgery was palliative and they said,
- 3:20Speaker 3: we're sorry. The only thing we can really recommend is
- 3:23Speaker 3: hospice care and make you comfortable for however many days.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Where are we at now with her progress?
- 3:32Speaker 3: So she was in hospice and we learned that the
- 3:35Speaker 3: doctors were actually only estimating about three or four days
- 3:38Speaker 3: is how long she would have to live. Oh but
- 3:42Speaker 3: on yeah, that one was a very big surprise. But
- 3:48Speaker 3: on day twelve of hospice, she was doing better and
- 3:52Speaker 3: stuff was starting to kind of return to normal. So
- 3:55Speaker 3: we talked to the doctors again and they're like, hey,
- 3:57Speaker 3: we think there might have been a mistake of everybody
- 4:00Speaker 3: looking at the CT scans and we don't think maybe
- 4:03Speaker 3: that there's any dead portion of intestine, and they want
- 4:07Speaker 3: and they wanted to run more tests. So she revoked
- 4:10Speaker 3: hospice and went back into inpatient care, and they did
- 4:14Speaker 3: more scans, more tests, and they said, hey, the portion
- 4:18Speaker 3: we thought had died seems to have resolved itself. It's
- 4:21Speaker 3: it's mostly gone away. There's still lots of things going on,
- 4:25Speaker 3: but the portion that was bad is almost back to
- 4:29Speaker 3: normal now and it's good again. And then they're like,
- 4:34Speaker 3: all right, we'll start on some medications again and wait again,
- 4:38Speaker 3: sit and wait, see what happens. And we were only
- 4:42Speaker 3: back in the hospital for about six days and we
- 4:46Speaker 3: managed to come home.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I have been to some incredible amusement parks. I've never
- 4:50Speaker 1: been on a roller coaster ride like this one right now.
- 4:53Speaker 1: What a story. Yeah, just emotional, to say the least.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I can't imagine feeling like you're saying goodbye to your
- 5:00Speaker 2: wife and then having all of this hope, of course,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and then it actually coming true. So now you've been
- 5:06Speaker 2: by her side through all of this, I can only imagine,
- 5:08Speaker 2: And it's the last thing you want to think about
- 5:10Speaker 2: is doctor Bill's and everything like that.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But you know, in the back of your mind those
- 5:14Speaker 1: are adding up.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yep. Yeah, I've been opening a lot of letters from
- 5:19Speaker 3: our insurance company with the explanation of benefits of how
- 5:22Speaker 3: much everything costs, and.
- 5:24Speaker 2: You know what, that is the last thing you need
- 5:26Speaker 2: to be worrying about. And that's why we're calling you today.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Ron On behalf of the big ninety eight point seven
- 5:32Speaker 2: Christmas Wish program, Gateway Chevrolet, Heartland, Chevy Dealers, and your
- 5:36Speaker 2: guys's friend Sabrina Jenks. She wrote in to just talk
- 5:40Speaker 2: about Page and how she is a beautiful thirty one
- 5:43Speaker 2: year old not only mother, wife, daughter, cousin, niece, friend,
- 5:46Speaker 2: but just somebody who has a loving husband like you
- 5:49Speaker 2: by her side. And what you guys have gone through.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think everybody listening right now can't even imagine. And
- 5:54Speaker 2: we want to ease a little bit of that burden
- 5:57Speaker 2: through this holiday and give you a check for one
- 5:58Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Thank you, and it's very appreciative.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Oh gosh, You're so welcome, and it doesn't even feel
- 6:06Speaker 2: like it's you know, much given everything you've gone through.
- 6:09Speaker 2: But we want to just bring a little bit of
- 6:11Speaker 2: happiness to you guys through this holiday and hopefully you
- 6:14Speaker 2: guys can just enjoy what you can and honestly just
- 6:17Speaker 2: be so grateful that it has turned around this way.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Thank you. It means a lot to know how many
- 6:23Speaker 3: people have just it's been ridiculous steam out of support
- 6:27Speaker 3: we've gotten from friends, family, relative people we don't even know,
- 6:31Speaker 3: and it's just been amazing.
