- 0:33The speed starts now.
- 0:49Welcome everyone to talks episode number three, three, Mikey got
- 0:54three, three, as her racing number.
- 0:56Also, So welcome, uh, Mikey blue tower.
- 0:58Any talks welcome in, uh, hello there.
- 1:03Uh, yeah, it's, uh, it's a first for me, uh, life on, uh, on the, in the webs.
- 1:09But, uh, yeah, here we are.
- 1:13And indeed, uh, 33 is my start, uh, a racing number for quite some years.
- 1:19I believe.
- 1:20From 2011, 2012 or so, yeah.
- 1:25Mm-hmm . That's great.
- 1:27Uh, we, so happy to have you here.
- 1:29And let's start with, uh, how did you get into racing?
- 1:33Uh, I know that you started in carting, so let's start with this.
- 1:38Yeah.
- 1:39Uh, well, the racing.
- 1:42Um, addiction or the racing, uh, virus started on a very early age.
- 1:50Uh, I caught a scuttler.
- 1:53I had an, uh, herby, uh, bedroom.
- 1:57I had herby bedding.
- 1:58Herbie toys, and I believe, I don't, I'm not sure, but I believe my, uh,
- 2:05grandma also made Herbie curtains.
- 2:08Something in my mind says I had Herbie curtains, not sure.
- 2:12And then on an, uh, uh, around eight or ten, uh, we had a Atari,
- 2:23uh, game computer, uh, at home.
- 2:26The Atari 26, uh, uh, 2600.
- 2:32And, uh, we had a game, uh, N'Zero.
- 2:36N'Zero was, uh, an arcade game with, uh, all kinds of, uh, um, situations.
- 2:44Uh, night, fog, winter.
- 2:46Yeah, that was my first, uh, game.
- 2:48Um, um, connection with racing and also the Herbie movie.
- 2:55Uh, yeah.
- 2:57From Herbie, uh, it was going, uh, to carting in I believe 94.
- 3:04I was 14.
- 3:05I was 14, 15, uh, uh, 14, 15.
- 3:09And uh, yeah, I was.
- 3:13Go into the cart, carting track, uh, on a, uh, on a bicycle, uh, two times,
- 3:19three times a month, sometimes, and just setting, uh, uh, the fastest, uh, time of
- 3:27the week, sometimes at the fastest time of the month and, uh, Around, uh, it was,
- 3:37uh, at the end of 1996, uh, Williams, the Williams FF one team, together
- 3:43with Sonars had a, um, uh, a challenge.
- 3:48You had to set a, a fast, uh, the fastest time on some of the, uh, indoor
- 3:54tracks and when you were fast enough.
- 3:57I believe the fo fast is four something and.
- 4:02You were invited to come to the speech and design, uh, uh,
- 4:07exhibition in, um, in Utrecht.
- 4:12Uh, that was at the end of the year.
- 4:14Speech and design was something, uh, That was, uh, organized every year
- 4:21around December, around this time.
- 4:24And, uh, we had a final, the fastest hundreds of, I believe, plus 5,
- 4:33000, 6, 000, uh, Um, attendees, uh, were invited the fastest and
- 4:38that, yeah, I was one of them.
- 4:41And one thing I still remember is like Joshua Stappan did, uh, a day,
- 4:49a demo on the, uh, on the cartoon track was just a concrete floor.
- 4:54Uh, on the first, uh, on the first level of the yardless, uh, um,
- 5:02building and, uh, he showed it like he was going on rails.
- 5:09And then we were able to do the practices and the concrete was like ice.
- 5:16And so my, my, um, adoration for your stuff came from that.
- 5:23Uh, experience like he drove on ice like it was on rails and we were, uh, um,
- 5:31skidding around, uh, making doughnuts, not intended, but yeah, that was really fun.
- 5:40But, uh, I think I became.
- 5:43Uh, somewhere in the top 30, top 40, not, not as my true self.
- 5:53So when I saw my name again, uh, on the, uh, leaderboards, uh, it, it does,
- 6:01it didn't felt good, uh, in that way.
- 6:04Uh, I couldn't, uh, uh, find, uh, uh, um.
- 6:12I didn't feel comfortable to know I was quick enough to become, uh,
- 6:19uh, better in karting in, in most sports, but not with this name.
- 6:23And that is why I stopped, uh, go karting on, uh, uh, on levels like the challenges.
- 6:34Um, uh, how do we say that?
- 6:37Uh,
- 6:40uh, events like events, like one hour races or so.
- 6:47I stopped with that, and I was just go karting, uh, in indoor
- 6:51karting tracks, and that was enough.
- 6:54So, yeah, they're, they're my, uh, uh, racing ambitions stopped somewhere.
- 7:03And, uh, it was at the end of the nineties, I believe, end of the ninth
- 7:10weekend zeros, I had my first racing wheel, uh, for the computer, uh,
- 7:15Microsoft, Microsoft side window.
- 7:17And then, uh, I started in, uh, pro, uh, rally 2000.
- 7:28Another rally game and a NASCAR 98, I believe.
- 7:33NASCAR 98, uh, and such.
- 7:36So that was my first, uh, uh, idea of, yeah, it wasn't really sim racing.
- 7:42Like, uh, uh, Yvonne also talks for, uh, uh, a week ago.
- 7:47It wasn't really sim racing, but it was.
- 7:51Like for the first time, uh, doing races offline, uh, to.
- 7:57Mm-hmm . And yeah, it was steering wheel.
- 8:01Uh, it, it had four feedback or so, so, yeah.
- 8:06Uh, so about cars, it can be really competitive, especially in Europe.
- 8:10I know that many people doing it.
- 8:11Mm-hmm.
- 8:12It can be really hard, uh, especially I think in nineties when you did it.
- 8:16Uh, so fully understand that you.
- 8:18Yeah.
- 8:19Like, uh, then go to only go karting and, uh, then switch
- 8:23to sim racing as understand.
- 8:25Um, how was it, uh, for you to change from actually the, the karting into sim racing?
- 8:31Uh, do you have enough skills to like reproduce in sim racing or, uh, do you
- 8:37learn something new in sim racing as well?
- 8:41Oh, funny enough, uh, the, um, the most, uh, I learned from, uh, from racing
- 8:49lines, I caught from the BMX, uh, together with my brother, I did a BMX, uh, in
- 8:56the late eighties, uh, early nineties.
- 8:58Uh, so in a BMX, we also did, uh, the apex, the clipping point.
- 9:04So, uh, out in out and I wasn't the quickest.
- 9:09I was, uh, The, the opposite of a daredevil, because I, I, I didn't
- 9:16dare to jump, I didn't dare to, uh, cycle on my back wheel, uh, I was
- 9:22just too afraid to break a bone.
- 9:25But the, uh, idea of cornering, uh, and, uh, like BMX, you can
- 9:33cycle through the whole corner.
- 9:35You don't have to break.
- 9:36You don't have, you can go through all the, uh, banking and, uh, go on.
- 9:41And with, uh, Go karting, it was something new and you spent all around, uh, in
- 9:48some corners, uh, especially in go in the pro cars with two engines in the back.
- 9:53Uh, yeah, you go go around then uh with uh from Go karting to sim racing, then
- 10:04it was also, uh, again with the, uh, with the rating lines out in out, but
- 10:11I never, uh, understood, uh, or never got, uh, the, uh, The focus, right?
- 10:21To look through corners.
- 10:23And to be fair, uh, I never saw myself as a, as a true sim racer, uh, as fast as
- 10:33Yvonne or as fast as the aliens, because I always, uh, till a few weeks ago, I
- 10:40always, um, had the issue with the focus.
- 10:44I find it really difficult to find focus to look in the corners digitally.
- 10:51And when I did, uh, my first, uh, test drives in the film club two years ago,
- 11:01then it was immediately looking, looking into corners and you, you can point
- 11:08your car to where you, where you watch.
- 11:12And like, like the course two weeks ago.
- 11:16On Salesforce.
- 11:18I have my focus right now with simul racing.
- 11:22In the past two weeks, I, I feel I, not now more focus where.
- 11:28I had so much, uh, difficulty with finding the focus and now it's easy.
- 11:38That's great.
- 11:39So yeah, I feel,
- 11:42I think I feel, uh, well, a few 10s, maybe a half second faster than I was
- 11:49before, before I started the, uh, racing course for the racing license stuff.
- 11:55It's really interesting that, uh, BMX experience actually help you
- 11:59in some racing, uh, That's awesome.
- 12:02Um, so can you tell me, you just mentioned that you've been into Nascar
- 12:07and some other games, uh, racing games, and how, uh, do you actually move
- 12:13from racing games into the sim racing and, uh, start to take it serious?
- 12:21Uh, I took it serious.
- 12:23I believe Uh, about, uh, well, uh, 11, uh, 12 years ago, uh, I
- 12:32started with the Crunchyroll 5.
- 12:35Uh, uh, I got connected with a small Dutch community, GTRacing.
- 12:41nl.
- 12:43And they are just community races, uh, every week or twice a week.
- 12:49And, uh, racing on a low level, just a community race of maybe five to 10,
- 12:58uh, drivers, it's, uh, got the feeling for me online with racing against real
- 13:07people, not racing against bots or AI.
- 13:11And then it was really, uh, fun to raise, uh, door handle.
- 13:17To door handle a mirror to mirror, and, uh, with also with G Grant , uh, you
- 13:25can, uh, um, approach it on a really, uh, professional level, but you can't,
- 13:34uh, approach it on, uh, on that level.
- 13:37Like in I racing.
- 13:41In Gran Turismo, I always find it difficult to find the right
- 13:46breaking spots, the right
- 13:51clipping points, the right
- 13:56visual markers you use.
- 14:00But yeah, throughout the Gran Turismo 5, 6, and 7, um, and then I hopped
- 14:08back, uh, to the, uh, PC with, uh, I said, of course, competition four
- 14:12years ago, and now, uh, with iRacing.
- 14:17Yeah, now I see it more, uh, uh, as a digital motorsport.
- 14:22Mm hmm.
- 14:24That's cool.
- 14:24Um, what do you think about, uh, so you jump into Gran Turismo 5 years, like, some
- 14:30time ago, and, uh, community definitely help you, and, uh, what do you think
- 14:36about, uh, Some racing community overall.
- 14:39Do you think that people are trying to help newcomers and like, oh, yeah
- 14:45Yeah, yeah, most definitely it's like
- 14:53I think When you take soccer, for example, or hockey, I, I've did, I've
- 15:00did some, uh, uh, uh, field hockey on a very low, uh, uh, basis, uh, in
- 15:07Utrecht, but there was already, uh, like, um, um, how do you say that?
- 15:14Um,
- 15:18uh, leveling.
- 15:20What kind of left wing they were looking to each other, but they didn't
- 15:25really help or support, uh, each other.
- 15:29It was, uh, on your own in most, in, uh, uh, community races in Crown Trismo,
- 15:37later in Assetto Corsa and, uh, I Racing, they, uh, I find it very welcoming is
- 15:46like, It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what you are, is
- 15:54as much or as, um,
- 16:00they should try to do it on a professional level and not do it on an a
- 16:11arcade level.
- 16:12Mm-hmm . So you try to.
- 16:14You try to to find your raising lines, you try to break on a, uh, on,
- 16:20on a certain point, you don't pun.
- 16:23Uh, others, uh uh, often track all the time.
- 16:26Then they see if, okay, that person wants to learn, that person
- 16:30wants to be quicker, we can help.
- 16:33Or you can help him and that that's what I see in, uh, in the same rating community.
- 16:41Very helpful.
- 16:42Very welcoming.
- 16:43Um, um, very welcoming, uh,
- 16:54I can't find, find the word now.
- 16:58Yeah.
- 16:58Uh, some racing community indeed, really welcoming.
- 17:01So when I jump into a racing, uh, that was during the pandemic, uh,
- 17:05in 2020, um, found that, you know, everybody's trying to support you.
- 17:11Everybody's trying to help you.
- 17:12If you got bad moments on track, uh, people trying to cheer you up
- 17:17and, um, Um, you know, just really, they're really friendly and, uh,
- 17:23welcoming, indeed, as you said.
- 17:26Um, Can you tell me what challenges did you face when you moved from
- 17:30Gran Turismo to a racing in ACC?
- 17:35What what was the main change for you in driving and in your skills?
- 17:42It was a whole different level.
- 17:45Okay Uh, start, uh, by the beginning, uh, it was, it was
- 17:502020 indeed, uh, with the Corona.
- 17:53Um, I was helping someone, um, um, he was, uh, launching a new website and he had
- 18:03a web, uh, a website, a webpage about, um, um, movies with the trans, uh, theme.
- 18:13Involved.
- 18:15So I came to the movie, just Charlie.
- 18:19I was searching on a movie, just Charlie interviews and such.
- 18:24Then I, uh, came to, uh, Charlie Martin interview, Charlie Martin.
- 18:30And then I thought, Oh my, there is someone like me racing.
- 18:38And it was, it was a week or so before she did the, uh, math,
- 18:43uh, nerveracking 24 hours.
- 18:46Uh, it, it was, I believe, uh, at the end of August began September.
- 18:52Uh, it was darkest at 24 hours on nerveracking ever.
- 18:56Uh, then, uh, at the end of, uh, 2020, then the diamond
- 19:03drive, uh, cup, uh, launched.
- 19:06So I got, uh, motivated.
- 19:10To buy a new gaming PC and be in that diamond drive cup.
- 19:17With as for the competition, with Johnny Martin, with other drivers, it opened so
- 19:23much, it opened not only the community.
- 19:26It opened also my, uh, uh, uh, perspective of sim racing.
- 19:34Uh, I saw, I, I needed to find seconds, uh, to be seconds far faster than my basic
- 19:43speed loss, uh, uh, to make it worse.
- 19:49The first race in the Diamond Drive Cup was on the Alton Park.
- 19:53I think there are no tracks other than Alton Park.
- 19:57I kind of hate it.
- 20:02So that was, that was an eye opener.
- 20:07It was really an eye opener from, from Gran Turismo.
- 20:11I took it seriously.
- 20:13I took it seriously as a, uh, as virtual motorsports.
- 20:17But the, the, the The level of professionalism in, uh, from, from too.
- 20:27I said the course wa was a huge step for me.
- 20:31Mm-hmm . So, yeah.
- 20:35uh, I, I had to learn, uh, new, uh, tactics, new,
- 20:43uh, a new, a new way of, uh, of breaking.
- 20:48I, I, I did a racing with my.
- 20:52Uh, Logitech, um, G29 on the, uh, on Gran Turismo, it was the same set.
- 20:59I did, uh, um, the first, the first races in, uh, Yeah.
- 21:07Yeah.
- 21:08Totally, totally different world of, uh, sim racing.
- 21:17Awesome.
- 21:17So you also get into ACC, uh, during pandemic time.
- 21:22That's really funny because, uh, you know, many guests, which we had on any
- 21:25talks, they started from pandemic also, and actually, uh, many people just, uh,
- 21:30discover sim racing during this time and that that's definitely awesome.
- 21:35And yeah, as you mentioned that you change your break in and.
- 21:40A lot of challenges you face, uh, during switching Gran Turismo to Data markers.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:46Like, like, in, in, uh, in, in Gran Turismo times, if I call it that, in
- 21:54Gran Turismo times, I always I did, uh, restart, restart a new lap, restart a
- 22:01new lap, restart a new lap with, uh, I said the Corsa Competizione and with
- 22:05the Diamond Drive Cup and later also another, uh, um, uh, uh, female racers.
- 22:13I don't know what that, uh, challenge was, uh, competition
- 22:18was, with more female racers.
- 22:20More female racers.
- 22:21Yeah.
- 22:22Yeah.
- 22:22I did, uh, I did some qualifications in that, really.
- 22:26And, uh, then I stopped to restart my lips and just keep on, uh, doing my lips.
- 22:34Uh, I stopped using my racing lines, uh, on and on and on.
- 22:40I.
- 22:42I turn it off and try to find my racing lines myself.
- 22:46So yeah, in, in real racing, you don't have a racing line either.
- 22:52I just try to challenge myself to, okay, I don't have, uh, that in, in real life.
- 22:59So we don't have in sim racing either.
- 23:03And that's also with sim racing.
- 23:06I try to, uh, Yeah, I challenge myself in driving with less traction
- 23:14control, driving with less ABS or driving with less downforce.
- 23:20Yeah, sometimes you have to try new things.
- 23:25Yeah, that's definitely right.
- 23:27When you try new things.
- 23:28You're learning, uh, something and, uh, you go with new experience, uh,
- 23:33to races and you're doing that better than better, uh, you getting better
- 23:37results and also more satisfied, having more fun, definitely.
- 23:41Uh, so when I jumped to our racing, I also came to some
- 23:46racing from in real life racing.
- 23:48So, I have really high expectations about myself that are like, going to
- 23:53win every race or something like this.
- 23:55Um, and, uh, Astim Racing is really competitive.
- 23:59That, uh, kind of calms me down, uh, when I jump into, uh, racing because I
- 24:04can, you know, You know, win every race.
- 24:07It was really hard.
- 24:08It was a big challenge for me.
- 24:09Um, so yeah, I learned something new.
- 24:12Like I started to be more calm, uh, during races, not rush.
- 24:17And sometimes just, uh, you know, plan the race, uh, better,
- 24:21uh, because we got Yeah, the
- 24:26work on the, uh, what I also did in as far as the competition, that's why I
- 24:32also fell in love with the Gina at us.
- 24:35Uh, doing offline races in the Ginettas or one hour to two hour races, uh, uh,
- 24:42starting from the back, uh, turned, uh, uh, AI level a bit lower, and then, uh,
- 24:49try to, uh, be, uh, uh, to become first in one hour, two hour races, and then, uh,
- 24:55turn the AI level up and up and up and up.
- 24:59So, yeah, then you can challenge yourself and become quicker, quicker, quicker.
- 25:06Yeah, that's the great thing about simracing, that you got the opportunity
- 25:09to jump anytime to the practice session.
- 25:12And we got great AI in iRacing, for example, so you can set it to any level.
- 25:18Um, can practice side by side fighting.
- 25:23And also, don't forget Raceroom.
- 25:26I have to say Raceroom also, uh, In the time I did Gran Turismo, uh, and I had
- 25:36to unplug my, uh, uh, Logitech out of the PlayStation, move it to the, uh,
- 25:44old PC and Raceroom was the only, uh, sim, uh, sim I could run on that PC
- 25:50and, and, uh, Raceroom, I could run, uh, leaderboard, uh, leaderboard challenges.
- 25:56So it was also, uh, a bit, uh, mix between, uh, Arcade and sim racing.
- 26:03I didn't do any, uh, real racing or racing to against AI or against real people.
- 26:12But, uh, yeah, race from also, I have to call them, uh, uh, for
- 26:21their, uh, Also for the sound engine, they're creating a sound.
- 26:24Mm-hmm . Uh, uh, of cars, uh, but also, uh, with the feeling of, uh,
- 26:30certain cars like the bm BBMW, uh, M1 Pro Car and a suit tt uh, yeah.
- 26:38Sound cars.
- 26:39I, I, I, I love racing very room for.
- 26:42Especially for the leaderboards.
- 26:44Yeah.
- 26:45Race room is great.
- 26:46Uh, I raised some time and it's also, uh, that happened.
- 26:49So I started from a set of Corsa, uh, not competizione, just a simple one.
- 26:54Um, then I raised my racing and then at the same time we had, uh, like offline
- 27:02sim racing, um, point in the mall.
- 27:05And so we had race room on this, uh, on our equipment here.
- 27:11And I remember I was racing here and also prepared in race room for, uh, one
- 27:16of the stages in Formula 4, uh, because race room got, uh, Sepang circuit.
- 27:21It's a absolutely amazing circuit.
- 27:23I love it.
- 27:24Um, yeah.
- 27:25Um, many people said that, wow.
- 27:29Sound engine is, is great and Raceroom and people just in love with it.
- 27:33And, uh, that's great that we got, uh, all kinds of different, uh, simulators
- 27:37right now, and you can just, uh, jump to whatever, uh, comfortable for you, or you
- 27:42got like equipment, uh, for exactly like you just said, yeah, you choose Raceroom
- 27:47because you could run it on your PC.
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:52Now, uh, uh, since, uh, Corona times, I do have a better PC, so I can
- 27:57run every, uh, sim, uh, I, I like.
- 28:00But, uh, yeah, it's, uh, back in those days, uh, like between 2012, 2013, when
- 28:09they launched and yeah, uh, just, uh, yeah, Raytheon is free and sometimes I
- 28:15buy a car or buy a track or, uh, yeah, in, in all those years, I have, uh, quite,
- 28:22uh, an amount of cars, uh, collected.
- 28:26Yeah, Raceroom got great tracks, also sometimes really cool leaderboard
- 28:31challenges and competitions.
- 28:34So yeah, I think that people can have a look at Raceroom.
- 28:38It's free to play also.
- 28:40That will be our recommendation.
- 28:42So maybe start some racing.
- 28:44And you can, and you can test drive every car you like before you buy it.
- 28:50Also, I, I will say, uh, every sim has to implement that.
- 28:56Uh, that idea so you can test drive every car before you buy I racing do it.
- 29:03Yeah.
- 29:04Uh, you mentioned before that you've been, uh, racing on sidewinder,
- 29:08then you changed to, to G29.
- 29:11Uh, did you upgrade your wheel or in pedals?
- 29:15So were you?
- 29:17You upgrade it.
- 29:17Yes.
- 29:18Uh, I got an upgrade, uh, not by myself, uh, it was, uh, last
- 29:24year, uh, December, uh, 23.
- 29:28Or was it 22?
- 29:30Oh, I don't know.
- 29:35It doesn't, it doesn't matter.
- 29:36Um, I got an upgrade by, uh, by my husband.
- 29:40Uh, he gave me, seriously.
- 29:48Oh!
- 29:51A Merusa, um, I believe V2 RS, uh, wheel.
- 29:58With an RAR nine, uh, base.
- 30:02And, uh, this year, uh, in the spring, I bought myself, uh, the,
- 30:08sorry, uh, Mozart, SRP, uh, pedals.
- 30:12Mm-hmm . And, uh, I do it now.
- 30:16Uh, I've raised for years in my, uh.
- 30:19Uh, uh, wouldn't do it yourself, uh, Rick, but this year, uh, a few
- 30:26months ago, I built myself, uh, I built, uh, a sim labs, uh, Rick, uh,
- 30:32I got from Yvonne and, uh, Sophie.
- 30:36That's nice.
- 30:37So you, you really upgrade your equipment.
- 30:39That's awesome.
- 30:40Um, How do you like it compared to what you had in 90s and, uh, how was it, can
- 30:46you compare this experience like you right now on high end equipment and you start
- 30:51on low end, uh, so how was it for you?
- 30:56Well,
- 31:00I've always said, uh, it's not the, uh, Equipment is the driver.
- 31:06Uh, I have to come back to that.
- 31:09Uh, especially when I'm now in the sim labs, uh, everything is 30.
- 31:14I don't have any, um, how do you say that?
- 31:17Um, uh, tolerances.
- 31:21Like a moving, everything is sturdy.
- 31:24Um, when I started with Quanturismo with a, uh, with a little community, I,
- 31:30uh, I have built myself a little case.
- 31:34Like, uh, it was almost a coffin and it was, uh, foldable.
- 31:41So it was a little flight case, something like that.
- 31:45In a weird shape in, uh, kind of we shape, uh, wet, uh, shape.
- 31:51And then I folded open, um, uh, clicked my, uh, steering wheel in it.
- 31:56And then I had my, um, yeah, ric, uh, in, in the bedroom.
- 32:02Uh, uh, pfi, uh, above me a little bit too high.
- 32:06I have neck drains, uh, observation.
- 32:10Uh, uh, yeah, that was for me at that time was enough for, uh, for the fun of racing.
- 32:20Not, um, um,
- 32:26how to say it, approaching it on a professional level, but just my
- 32:31racing wheel was in a secure spot.
- 32:34My pedals were in a secure spot.
- 32:36I used an old, uh, go karting seat that I could move with, uh, little.
- 32:43Pins and holes in a, in a case, in a fight case.
- 32:47So I had a, I had a seating position so I could race, but compared to that
- 32:55and what I do have now, yeah, totally different world, totally different
- 33:00world of sim racing and racing.
- 33:02Uh, yeah, I truly can say now I race for virtually and, uh, thing I did
- 33:12back then was like arcade gaming.
- 33:17That's great.
- 33:17You know, I really like that you started from really base equipment and you
- 33:22step by step improve it for the years.
- 33:24It's, uh, it's really great.
- 33:26Um, when people come to me and ask me like, uh, what should
- 33:31I get as a first equipment?
- 33:33I just telling them, uh, like you can, you should get the one in
- 33:38which you can efforts actually.
- 33:39So you can start from basic one and then move to more expensive if
- 33:43you got an opportunity for this.
- 33:47Maybe you can, uh, show, uh, something, uh, what I have, uh,
- 33:52previous on this, uh, SimRig.
- 33:54Uh, I had a rig built from scaffolding pipes.
- 33:58Mm.
- 33:58Um, just scaffolding pipes, uh, with a, um, not the torques, but a bu, um, keys.
- 34:07Mm-hmm . So I, I just ordered, I, I, I, I just ordered a load of, uh, pipes.
- 34:12I just ordered a lot load of, uh, those, uh, couplings, uh, built myself, uh,
- 34:17first, uh, uh, desk with a small triangle.
- 34:22I, uh, mounted a, a steering wheel on it.
- 34:26When I used my desk for home things and like, uh, uh, creating
- 34:33or, uh, drawing, then I just had a, uh, a desk with a L shape.
- 34:39And when I was going to race, my pedals were, uh, just in the
- 34:43corner, uh, 45 degrees, then I.
- 34:47Put the triangle in its position, uh, uh, uh, turns the, uh, the couplings,
- 34:55uh, uh, tighten the couplings.
- 34:57Uh, with triangle where my steering wheel was on it, and then I was able to race.
- 35:02So my desk was, uh, multifunctional,
- 35:08uh, then I, uh, then I changed that desk to a rig with the same
- 35:14pipes, same scaffolding pipes.
- 35:16Didn't, uh, any, uh, uh, additions to it.
- 35:21And like now for, I think the past year, uh, doing, uh, uh, I'm going to race.
- 35:30No, not going to go to it.
- 35:31I'm racing in this, uh, sim labs, uh,
- 35:37still scaffolding pipes for my money.
- 35:41My monitor stand is, uh, mounted to the, uh, SimLabs rig for my monitor.
- 35:48That's awesome.
- 35:48Uh, you know, also when I started in 2020, I had, uh, like custom made, uh,
- 35:54steel rig and when we switch from single screen, so single screen, I had it on desk
- 36:00actually, and when we changed to triple, uh, we just, uh, built with my husband
- 36:06out of the plain woods, uh, the table.
- 36:10So it was made for the triple it's, you know, it's really comfortable
- 36:14and it's, uh, really solid as it's, uh, that's a playbook.
- 36:18It's, um, you know, just like solid, solid, yeah.
- 36:24And you know, it's still working.
- 36:26He's still using, uh, this, uh, the stand for triple.
- 36:30It's also, so we move a couple of times, uh, bring it with us and
- 36:35it's still in one piece and working.
- 36:39I, I know I, I've been to, uh, Yon, uh, a few times, and I know Yon had that, uh,
- 36:46Samsung, uh, uh, uh, quiet war mm-hmm.
- 36:52Uh, screen.
- 36:54Yeah.
- 36:54That's, that's one thing I, I want to buy, uh, for myself.
- 36:59Mm-hmm . For, yeah.
- 36:59Just instead of the triple screen, just one monitor, uh, with a, uh, yeah.
- 37:06Uh, how do you say it?
- 37:08math curve, uh, in it and then, yeah, this one, uh, one addition
- 37:14I could use for this rig.
- 37:17Yeah, I think this, uh, monitor can be good also for PC performance because
- 37:21triple definitely ate a lot of, uh, resources from PC, from GPU and
- 37:26from CPU as well as all simulators.
- 37:29They, you know, pretty hard on single core, uh, from CPU.
- 37:34So yeah, I think that that's a good, uh, I'm, I'm, Not into that.
- 37:39I'm just not into that digital technical stuff.
- 37:43It's just, it has to work.
- 37:45Yeah, you know, you just have to take what's comfortable for you.
- 37:49So I know that some people are really comfortable with a single screen, so
- 37:54they just get used to, they got their own reference points on their monitors,
- 37:59and they just race with single screen.
- 38:02But for myself, I choose triple.
- 38:05Just because it gives you more angle, so when you race side by side in road
- 38:09races, it's really comfortable to use.
- 38:14Yeah, it's like, uh, with, uh, with single screen, uh, I try now to use, uh,
- 38:21sometimes the, uh, one of those picks.
- 38:24I try to use for, uh, for looking to left or right.
- 38:30So that's what I try, uh, in
- 38:38Assetto Corsa, it works a bit better than in IAC.
- 38:43But, uh, yeah, something I, yeah, and VR is also not.
- 38:49Something I, uh, I do want because I am afraid I, uh, I, I
- 38:57will hurt my eyes with the VR.
- 39:00I don't know.
- 39:00I don't like it.
- 39:02Yeah, VR is just, uh, you know, not for everyone because
- 39:05someone gets sick from it.
- 39:07Someone just dies.
- 39:09doesn't, uh, don't like that, uh, you know, getting a worm and, uh, around
- 39:14your eyes and, uh, you can sweat also.
- 39:17So for long races, I think VR is a not, not really good option.
- 39:21Um, yeah, once again, um, you have to go with whatever you'll be comfortable with.
- 39:29No, I prefer the real racing, a little bridge.
- 39:36Uh, can you tell me, you mentioned that you, uh, didn't like Alton Park
- 39:41in a racing, um, can you tell me what is your favorite combo in a racing and
- 39:46in a set of Corsa Compensione, like favorite car and favorite track also?
- 39:52Um, well, lately, uh, the past two years, I, uh, really liked, uh, solar also
- 40:00because I, uh, raised, uh, uh, with the fun cup in real life, uh, uh, that's
- 40:05why, um, I think the unit, the genetic GT four on solar, that's, that's for me, uh,
- 40:12uh, uh, Yeah, perfect combo, um, like in iRacing, uh, for example, I'm, I'm not,
- 40:22I'm not really into, uh, Formula cars, but, uh, the, the Formula, uh, the FF1600.
- 40:32On Lime Rock, uh, I also really like.
- 40:37Yeah, F Formula race, amazing.
- 40:41I like it.
- 40:41Um, my favorite one is, uh, Summit Point with this car.
- 40:45Um, but I think Lime Rock Park is, uh, you know, for the first time
- 40:48you Yeah, Summit, Summit, Summit and Lime Rock are really interchangeable.
- 40:56I think Lime Rock and Cemetery are really close to each other.
- 41:00Yeah, they're really close to each other.
- 41:02I agree with you.
- 41:03And I think that Lime Rock Park, for some people, when you're first time
- 41:08looking in the track, you're like, Oh, it's like pretty easy to to race here.
- 41:12Yeah.
- 41:13But when you get on the track, you're like, wow, it's it's
- 41:16really complicated in some places.
- 41:18And, you know, all the time you you say, Steering to the right many
- 41:24times on this track and, uh, it can be really challenging to keep a
- 41:28consistent lap times for like 20 laps.
- 41:32Yeah, I've did so many laps to, to get, uh, uh, the last part of the
- 41:37track, uh, to me, just the, the, the, the, uh, The long right hander.
- 41:44Mm-hmm . Uh, lime Rock.
- 41:46It's just, yeah.
- 41:47It took me so long to get it right.
- 41:49Um, yeah.
- 41:51With, with Summit, it, it is the final corner, uh, long time.
- 41:56I, uh, drove from Summit, but, uh, uh, uh, gear, uh, gearing down to
- 42:03mm-hmm . Third, uh, to third care in, in a ff six unit, but now I.
- 42:10Do it more in fourth gear and just, uh, yeah,
- 42:16how does it throw it into the corner?
- 42:19Yeah, I, I got it.
- 42:20Like you, um, bringing more speed into the, the last, uh, one.
- 42:25Yeah, that's definitely working.
- 42:27You know, that last corners on summit point and Lime Rock Park,
- 42:31I think they really familiar.
- 42:33So it can, if you nail the, the one on Lime Rock Park, you'll be, uh, okay
- 42:39with summit point as well, I think.
- 42:44All right.
- 42:44Um, so we're moving to near to the end of our show and, uh, let's talk about
- 42:51your plans and, uh, about your dreams.
- 42:53What are you planning for your future?
- 42:55Um, are you going to jump into real life racing?
- 42:59Um, and what are you planning to do in sim racing as well?
- 43:05Uh, no, my
- 43:11plans are really focused on real racing.
- 43:15Um, beginning of this year, uh, I said to myself, I want to get
- 43:19my racing license this year.
- 43:22Uh, and I, uh, ordered myself and, uh, uh, my personal logo.
- 43:29I don't.
- 43:31Oh, it's cute.
- 43:32Nope.
- 43:35This also with the Beatle with a film cup, Beatle and from Herbie.
- 43:40And uh, yeah.
- 43:42Um, I said to myself, I had to get my racing license this year and
- 43:48at the summer I didn't knew really if it was going to succeed or not.
- 43:53Uh, in September I was watched and, uh, visited, uh, max five.
- 43:59With, uh, Miaras, uh, for example, I visited Germany, then I saw, yeah,
- 44:06okay, motorsports is expensive.
- 44:08Okay.
- 44:09I know it.
- 44:10And then, uh, I came back from holiday, uh, mid October and I had some, um, uh,
- 44:19email contact with someone from Sanford.
- 44:22He has his own, uh, racing school, uh, booting up his, uh, company with that.
- 44:31And, uh, I thought I have to do it.
- 44:34I have to do it.
- 44:34It's still this year I have to do it.
- 44:37So, yeah.
- 44:37Um,
- 44:40some, some people know.
- 44:42And I have my racing license, EU EU racing license.
- 44:49Awesome.
- 44:50Congrats to you.
- 44:52So my, my goal, uh, with a, a racing license is to, uh,
- 44:59get into, uh, the film cup.
- 45:00Uh, starting, uh, my, uh, story with the Herbie and, uh, ending
- 45:07my ambitions to get in the funk of Beatles, like racing in Herbie.
- 45:14Yeah,
- 45:17it's, uh, if it's only one stint, if it's only one stint, uh, As Sanford or
- 45:25as far, but now I, I believe there's more, uh, more than that for me.
- 45:31And, uh, I, I have to do some networking.
- 45:35I have to do some stuff, but I really believe, uh, there's something
- 45:39to do in the most spots for me.
- 45:43Yeah, I hope all your dreams are going to come true.
- 45:46I also noticed that you got pretty, uh, earrings.
- 45:50Yeah.
- 45:50With beetles.
- 45:51Yeah, that's, uh, This, uh, also, uh,
- 45:59some DI, uh, DU crafting, I did myself.
- 46:03Oh, uh, based on the logo, based on the logo of the film cup.
- 46:08So, uh, that's awesome.
- 46:09Uh,
- 46:12so I have, uh, since a few, uh, since a year or two, I have a
- 46:17legend, graver and laser Kurt.
- 46:19In my, uh, shed, so I do, uh, some, uh, sometimes, uh, stuff like this.
- 46:26That's really cool.
- 46:27I love it.
- 46:34And I also, uh, what, what I also want to mention is like, uh, uh, sure.
- 46:40I want to, uh, stay in, uh, sim racing, uh.
- 46:44This year, uh, of no or no?
- 46:47Uh, last year, uh, with, uh, the Rachel for Mental Health, 2023,
- 46:52I raced with, uh, ASRA Racing.
- 46:54Mm-hmm . And this, this year in, uh, spring, I raced with, with,
- 47:00um, in the, I don't know, it was or
- 47:06And, uh, working with sim racing and real racing to work on consistency.
- 47:14Uh, even also, uh, learned me just consist, consistency.
- 47:20Now consistency is key.
- 47:24It's like, I, I'm not always the fastest, uh, like mostly I'm three to
- 47:33five seconds slower than the aliens.
- 47:36And that's, that's okay for me.
- 47:38But I, when.
- 47:40I drove with Astra in the race for mental health on solar or on Le Mans
- 47:48this year and I only made four or five mistakes in the whole event.
- 47:56Yeah, then I think my consistency is okay.
- 48:00And when I, when I can turn that into the real racing to be consistent
- 48:05there to, yeah, what I always said.
- 48:09That is like a drive round like a Jensen butternut and also that round
- 48:15that like a smooth driving style.
- 48:19Yeah, and I tried to Convert it to the real racing
- 48:27Yeah, I think as you said consistency is a key and I think with consistency
- 48:31also Speed will come to you because if you're consistent, you can actually
- 48:36analyze your laps and it's better to see mistakes which you're doing and overall
- 48:41it will help you to improve in the future.
- 48:45So yeah, I think this is the main thing in simracing and racing as well.
- 48:51Yeah, and now the focus is, uh, more on point for me, like I, I
- 48:55can look into the corners more in virtual, uh, in virtual racing.
- 49:03Uh, yeah, I think I found there are some, some tense, maybe half a second.
- 49:09So yeah, I think, I think, uh, I, I will have to try some
- 49:13new events this or next year.
- 49:16So we'll see.
- 49:18Yeah, and, uh, speaking about your racing career and, uh, that you're planning
- 49:22to do some networking, um, I think you can use SimRacing as well for this as,
- 49:27uh, you know, so many racing drivers in SimRacing, and, uh, maybe you can think
- 49:32to start streaming, start, uh, some socials as well, and, uh, you streaming.
- 49:37Streaming is something
- 49:41I don't like.
- 49:42Um, no, it's not, not like, but it's not in my, um, first, uh, um, um, first
- 49:56problems map I had when I called that it's like, when I go to race, yeah, I want to
- 50:02stream, but I'm not that aware or that.
- 50:06Uh, fonts to, uh, make it a streaming, uh, business, uh, it's, I want to race.
- 50:13Yes.
- 50:13I want to, uh, share my passion.
- 50:16I want to share my, uh, uh, goals.
- 50:20Yeah.
- 50:21But, uh, streaming with all the editing and, and, uh, Social media around.
- 50:29I, I, I think I'm or do all for it or not that into it.
- 50:35I don't know.
- 50:38So maybe you just, uh, don't have experience.
- 50:40Yeah.
- 50:41Um, I think if you're going to meet people, uh, who can help
- 50:44you, uh, even with streaming.
- 50:47So maybe one day, uh, you, you can jump into it.
- 50:50Yeah.
- 50:51And even, you know, if you go on to do any races and some racing, I think
- 50:55it will be really good to stream them.
- 50:57Uh, because you're going to find mm-hmm . Uh, your people
- 51:00who's going to support you.
- 51:01They're going to come to every Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 51:04Every race.
- 51:05Yeah.
- 51:05To cheer for you.
- 51:06Mm-hmm . And that's great.
- 51:07Yeah.
- 51:08I have to ask,
- 51:11so maybe Yeah.
- 51:13And also you one, uh, said that I can help you
- 51:20. Yeah.
- 51:20God, you know, we guys, uh, really, uh, friendly and a welcome
- 51:24community and like everybody Yeah.
- 51:26That, that, that, and, uh.
- 51:30It, it doesn't have to be free, of course.
- 51:32Mm-hmm . And, uh, if people, uh, like to make, uh, digital
- 51:38photographs of the flu racing or indeed, uh, editing of videos, yeah.
- 51:44Who knows?
- 51:45But, uh, at this point I'm not into that.
- 51:50Mm-hmm
- 51:52. Yeah, I remember.
- 51:53I, I don't know.
- 51:55I, I don't also, uh, what my, uh, goal is with simulating.
- 52:00If I go to, uh, overriding, even if I go to, More, uh, tooling class, like
- 52:08in a race room now, or maybe more like Formula and IndyCar, I don't know.
- 52:17All right, so you're going to decide for your future, I'm pretty sure.
- 52:21And, you know, I remember when I started streaming and started to
- 52:25get into sim racing, I was, uh, You know, absolutely had no clue
- 52:30about streaming and how to do this.
- 52:32And, uh, you know, how to be, how to race at the same time and
- 52:36communicate with the community.
- 52:38Yeah.
- 52:39Um, it was a big challenge for me, definitely.
- 52:41And, um, for this years, I can tell you that, uh, you know, I just became
- 52:46more confident and, uh, feeling more comfortable with community.
- 52:51And, uh, it's actually a little bit weird when you're racing.
- 52:55Uh, and you're not streaming in the same time because I just get used to this.
- 52:58I get used to that.
- 52:59I got all the time, my people who support me in every races.
- 53:04Um, but sometimes, you know, I'm like, I'm practicing, uh, offline, not on stream.
- 53:09And it feels a bit weird.
- 53:13Yeah.
- 53:13Yeah.
- 53:14Well, like, uh, talk now, uh, uh, for an hour or so with,
- 53:19which you in a calm camera.
- 53:22I'm not used to cameras that much and, uh, getting comfortable
- 53:28by the minute with the camera.
- 53:30Yeah, who knows?
- 53:31Uh, yeah, I don't call it totally off.
- 53:35Uh, I don't, I won't do it, but, uh, it's not in my, uh, yeah, yeah.
- 53:43I don't know how to say it.
- 53:46It's not in my streets to, uh, to focus on that streaming stuff more.
- 53:53I'm more eager to focus on the sim racing and, uh, become quicker and
- 53:59more, um, uh, reliable, uh, as a team member for Astra racing or.
- 54:06Or another team, but, uh, and then, uh, and then go streaming instead of go
- 54:12streaming and still, uh, hopping around.
- 54:16And I first have to find my, um, my point of racing.
- 54:24Uh, hopefully with the, hopefully with the Jinekas, I really,
- 54:29uh, like to, uh, race them.
- 54:33But yeah, maybe GT3, maybe IndyCar, I don't know.
- 54:38Yeah, I fully understand you, um, and you're great on camera today.
- 54:43You're doing amazing.
- 54:45Thank you.
- 54:47The lights, uh, turned off, uh, almost.
- 54:50Half hour ago.
- 54:54All right.
- 54:55Yeah.
- 54:55Um, what would you say to women, uh, who are interested in join, uh, sim racing?
- 55:01What would you suggest to them?
- 55:04Uh, maybe like jump into any of the sports, uh, and what they, um, can
- 55:12do to get involved into sim racing?
- 55:15First of all, try it.
- 55:18Uh, yeah.
- 55:19Like, compared to 10 years ago, and now, uh, the community I
- 55:27found with the Diamond Drive Club.
- 55:29With a head, uh, discord and, uh, also with, uh, you know, it's in team
- 55:36and, uh, SR racing, um, there, there was so much to find, uh, as a female
- 55:42register, also as an LGBT racer.
- 55:45Um, there was so much to, uh, Uh, to discover, uh, what kind of, um, race
- 55:54you like, what kind of, um, of not, not what kind of, what, what amount of, uh,
- 56:01uh, sim racing you want in your life.
- 56:04Uh, what, what time you have for it?
- 56:07What, what, uh, um, what do you want to put into it, in your new hobby?
- 56:15And to get out of it, uh, is it just gaming and just have fun for
- 56:18an hour a week, or do you want to make it more, uh, more your hobby?
- 56:24Uh, then I say, yeah, uh, try it.
- 56:27And there are so many, so many clubs, so many events, uh, so many, uh,
- 56:33companies you, you can, uh, attend, visit, uh, like, uh, formula one, uh,
- 56:41GT3, uh, GT3, uh, clubs, uh, if even on, on racing tracks, uh, itself like
- 56:50Nürburgring and Sandsport, you can.
- 56:52You can visit them, and they have a sim rig.
- 56:56So, uh, there is much to explore for everyone.
- 57:01Yeah, definitely.
- 57:02A lot of opportunities to jump into different simulators.
- 57:06Also, uh, if you don't have a rig, as you said, yeah, we got some
- 57:10sim racing centers, uh, where you can come and just try sim racing.
- 57:15That's awesome, yeah.
- 57:17Many ways to start, uh, to get, to be involved into sim racing, as you said.
- 57:25And also like, um,
- 57:29uh, try to, uh, ask, uh, people in your neighborhood, uh, maybe colleagues, uh,
- 57:36maybe, uh, uh, friends of friends, uh, who are into a sim racing, yeah, you can
- 57:43ask, uh, Hey, uh, I heard you, you, you did sim racing, you have a steering wheel.
- 57:48Uh, yeah, you, you can ask and.
- 57:51Like, like we have said, uh, it's a very welcoming community and, uh, someone
- 57:58who wants to share his patient too.
- 58:01So he said, maybe he says like, uh, Oh yeah, come on over, uh, have a drink, uh,
- 58:07come over this weekend and you can try it.
- 58:11So it's also, uh, lots of, lots of opportunities.
- 58:17Yeah, that's true.
- 58:18I absolutely agree with you.
- 58:20Um, and now we're just, uh, flew really fast with you.
- 58:24Uh, so thank you so much for taking your time and, uh, speaking with us.
- 58:28It was awesome.
- 58:29Yeah.
- 58:29You're great on camera.
- 58:30I'm going to say this once again.
- 58:33Thank you so much.
- 58:33Thank you.
- 58:34Yeah.
- 58:34Thank you guys for watching and till the next time with the neat talks.
- 58:39Bye.
- 58:39Bye.
