- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to episode thirty nine of Rebellio for
- 0:13Speaker 1: March fifth, twenty twenty six.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm Amy and I'm Tom.
- 0:34Speaker 1: And Nicole is on a little trip. But we are
- 0:37Speaker 1: joined by a very special guest, Sam from fandom Shmannum podcast.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So welcome Sam.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hello, thank you, Hello, Hello, hello, Hey.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So have you yeah, thank you?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Excited to be here?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah, we too. It's awesome.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So could you introduce yourself to our listeners, you know,
- 0:58Speaker 1: maybe what's your Hogwarts, how how you got into Harry Potter,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and also a little bit about.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Your podcast too, Yeah, totally. I was born in nineteen No,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I won't go back that far, but I I was
- 1:12Speaker 3: born in the nineties, so I'm a giant Harry Potter
- 1:14Speaker 3: kid like almost all of us. And I grew up
- 1:17Speaker 3: in New England, which I feel like is the closest
- 1:19Speaker 3: place you could have been to Scotland, in the rural
- 1:23Speaker 3: New Hampshire area. So yeah, Halloween nights were filled with
- 1:28Speaker 3: Harry Potter and Hermione Grangers and eventually Louna loved Goods
- 1:31Speaker 3: and it was awesome. It was just it was a blast.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So I had no choice as a millennial in the
- 1:38Speaker 3: nineties and oughts, but to love that and I learned
- 1:41Speaker 3: to read because of Harry Potter. I was really far
- 1:43Speaker 3: behind on my reading skills in like kindergarten, first and
- 1:48Speaker 3: second grade. I was in special reading classes. And we started.
- 1:52Speaker 3: My mom started reading Sorcerer's Stone to us and I
- 1:56Speaker 3: was like, cool, can we read the next one? She's like, yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I don't want to keep doing hare pod. I was like, well,
- 2:02Speaker 3: I'll read it, and she's like you can't, and I
- 2:04Speaker 3: was like, but I will. So that is how my
- 2:08Speaker 3: pod actor journey started. Fast forward to twenty eighteen, I
- 2:13Speaker 3: started working for MuggleNet. I eventually got a spot on Alahamorra.
- 2:16Speaker 3: We moved to Three Broomsticks several of us, and now
- 2:19Speaker 3: I have started this podcast for with Sierra Overermarkh's another
- 2:25Speaker 3: Three Broomstick's host called fandom Shmandem, which covers all sorts
- 2:31Speaker 3: of different fandoms that you love and more so, so
- 2:34Speaker 3: far we have we covered all of Stranger Things, so
- 2:37Speaker 3: if you are of like the six people that still
- 2:40Speaker 3: like that show, you can go back and listen to
- 2:44Speaker 3: all of our episodes about Stranger Things. And right now
- 2:48Speaker 3: we're working on the prequels series So we're doing about
- 2:51Speaker 3: sixteen episodes on Star Wars episodes one, two, and three
- 2:55Speaker 3: with character deep dives, et cetera, et cetera. We have
- 2:58Speaker 3: an awesome expert coming on that show who knows a
- 3:00Speaker 3: lot about old extended universe, Cannon, who comes in and explains, like, well,
- 3:04Speaker 3: before Disney took over, Qui Gon was like this actually,
- 3:07Speaker 3: and Kundoku was like this, and then we juxtaposed that
- 3:09Speaker 3: with that stuff. So that's that's me. My house is Gryffindor.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And I always tell everybody who says this to me,
- 3:18Speaker 3: be careful what you say, because it's tattooed onto my body.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So not that you guys can't trash Gryffindor, it's just
- 3:25Speaker 3: sometimes I say gryffin do people like what a basic
- 3:27Speaker 3: Harry Potter fan? And I'm like, yeah, excuse me, they
- 3:31Speaker 3: do They do say that. And I always say, I'm
- 3:34Speaker 3: much more of a Neville Gryffindor than I am a
- 3:35Speaker 3: Harry or a James Gryffindor. So somebody who is willing
- 3:38Speaker 3: to stand up for the right not necessarily to dive
- 3:42Speaker 3: headfirst into a monster's gullet. So I think that would
- 3:46Speaker 3: be my difference there, But I love raven Claw with
- 3:48Speaker 3: a burning passion as well. If you had to do
- 3:52Speaker 3: one of those hybrid houses to be a gryffin Claw.
- 3:54Speaker 3: My wife is a raven Claw. I have no ill
- 3:57Speaker 3: will towards Hufflepuffs or Slytherins. They're just not me.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm feeling very outnumbered on this episode.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny. Occasionally we do have all Gryffindor episodes
- 4:13Speaker 3: on the Three Broomsticks and we'll be like, yeah, and
- 4:16Speaker 3: somebody in the comments will be like, I felt like
- 4:18Speaker 3: the literary now this wasn't it good? And I have
- 4:19Speaker 3: to put in the comments. I'm a literal English teacher.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Oh boy, it's nice. It's nice to have a fellow
- 4:29Speaker 2: gryffind Or on the podcast because I think it's the
- 4:31Speaker 2: first time we've had Yeah, I think it's the first
- 4:33Speaker 2: time we've had another gryffind Or. Usually they come from
- 4:37Speaker 2: different houses.
- 4:37Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, cool, awesome, fantastic.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So in today's episode, we are going to be discussing
- 4:48Speaker 2: Howard's legacy. But first.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network No
- 5:00Speaker 1: for the latest headlines. All right, So we do have
- 5:03Speaker 1: a little bit of news. One big item, and that
- 5:09Speaker 1: is another twist in the Warner Brothers sale saga. Don't
- 5:14Speaker 1: You Done?
- 5:16Speaker 3: So?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Netflix is walking away from the deal after Paramount made
- 5:22Speaker 1: a larger bid and Warner's board announced that Paramount made
- 5:27Speaker 1: a quote superior offer than what they had struck with
- 5:31Speaker 1: Netflix back in December, and according to PBS News, Netflix
- 5:36Speaker 1: declined to raise its offer to compete with Paramount. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: so here's kind of the difference here in this deal.
- 5:45Speaker 1: The Paramount deal is that they want to buy the
- 5:48Speaker 1: entire Warner Brothers Discovery company, whereas Netflix wanted just Warner's
- 5:55Speaker 1: studio and streaming business. So I feel like this has
- 6:00Speaker 1: a lot more connotations for media and film in general
- 6:07Speaker 1: moving forward, So that should be interesting. A weird little
- 6:12Speaker 1: side note that like obviously doesn't really have to do
- 6:14Speaker 1: with Harry Potter, but this would put CBS and CNN
- 6:19Speaker 1: under the same ownership roof, which is a little odd.
- 6:24Speaker 1: But there we are. I mean, obviously, this deal is
- 6:29Speaker 1: not final. It's going to be very heavily scrutinized, I'm
- 6:33Speaker 1: sure during review by the government when it comes to
- 6:37Speaker 1: regulations and consolidation.
- 6:40Speaker 3: On all that stuff.
- 6:41Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens, and you know, who knows,
- 6:45Speaker 1: it could fail and Netflix could be like, well, we're
- 6:48Speaker 1: still here, so you never know. Time will tell. What
- 6:54Speaker 1: are your guys' thoughts on this new development.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I think it's so fascinating that when they talk about
- 7:01Speaker 3: deals like this and it's like, here's an extra ten
- 7:04Speaker 3: billion dollars if you actually own stock, they're talking about
- 7:08Speaker 3: like thirty cents, so you know, all they have so
- 7:11Speaker 3: many they split their stock so many times in order
- 7:14Speaker 3: to try and get new buyers in to get more
- 7:18Speaker 3: value into it for Warner Brothers that you know, it
- 7:21Speaker 3: goes from like the bid is twenty seven dollars, the
- 7:24Speaker 3: bid is twenty seven dollars and five cents the bit
- 7:26Speaker 3: is and I think they ended at thirty one bucks
- 7:28Speaker 3: to share. And so just a very this whole sort
- 7:31Speaker 3: of made up system of well, we are investing in
- 7:34Speaker 3: what we think the future of this company will be,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and so therefore we're willing to pay money now and
- 7:40Speaker 3: have risk. That's all investment is is risk. But I
- 7:45Speaker 3: will be interested to see, depending on who's in charge
- 7:47Speaker 3: during the mid terms when this deal is finally approved,
- 7:50Speaker 3: which party is actually protecting monopoly laws because there is.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I think you could make an argument that having CNN
- 7:57Speaker 3: and CBS, as well as Paramount owning everything from HBO
- 8:02Speaker 3: to DC to Harry Potter might actually be a monopoly
- 8:07Speaker 3: rather than a good competition. So I'll be interested to
- 8:11Speaker 3: see if this actually pushes through completely. M hm.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah, And that is the interesting bit, right, Like, I
- 8:18Speaker 1: feel like that's the downside of this deal for sure,
- 8:22Speaker 1: would be that monopoly situation. But then, strangely, also on
- 8:27Speaker 1: the other end, you have where this might be slightly
- 8:31Speaker 1: more positive for the film industry, right, and the Paramount
- 8:37Speaker 1: obviously believes in theatrical release much more than Netflix does.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So there's like these weird kind of competing components where
- 8:45Speaker 1: it could be positive for one industry and very negative
- 8:49Speaker 1: for another. And yeah, it's well.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I'll say this to Matt. Damon gave this interesting interview
- 8:57Speaker 3: in him and Ben Affleck put out their Buddy Cop
- 8:59Speaker 3: movie on Netflix about a couple months ago, where he says, yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 3: you know, when you work for these companies, it's pretty straightforward.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But when you work for Netflix, they tell you, hey,
- 9:10Speaker 3: people are going to be on their phone, so mention
- 9:13Speaker 3: the plot details five or six times. Which as a
- 9:16Speaker 3: movie you know, lover and somebody who's literally my master's
- 9:21Speaker 3: degree is in like film the literature adaptation. You hear
- 9:24Speaker 3: that and you just go, oh my god, like no,
- 9:28Speaker 3: because you want as little exposition in a project as possible.
- 9:32Speaker 3: And so when Netflix has taken over, I'm like, does
- 9:34Speaker 3: that mean the Harry Potter series at the beginning is
- 9:37Speaker 3: going to be like how Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets
- 9:41Speaker 3: and Prisoner of Azkaban feels at the beginning of each book,
- 9:43Speaker 3: where you're like, I get it, Joe, you understand the world,
- 9:47Speaker 3: let it move forward, but it doesn't happen. So I
- 9:50Speaker 3: just I I think I trust Paramount a little bit
- 9:54Speaker 3: more as the curators of storytelling than Netflix at the moment,
- 9:58Speaker 3: which I trust to have like a good product. So
- 10:01Speaker 3: it's a weird, weird little competition there.
- 10:04Speaker 2: M yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Well, we shall see. On a lighter note, butter Beer
- 10:15Speaker 1: Season is back in the Universal Orlando Theme Parks, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: some of the special treats arriving this year include a
- 10:23Speaker 1: butter beer Waffle, butter beer crem brewlat and a butter
- 10:28Speaker 1: beer cream path. Of course, there's also merch so you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: they want all your money.
- 10:38Speaker 2: As always.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yes, all of the designs feature the same brood in
- 10:42Speaker 1: the British Isles design with four logos for wisiting world
- 10:46Speaker 1: establishments that sell butter beer incorporated in there somehow. So
- 10:51Speaker 1: these logos are the three broomsticks, the Leaky Cauldron, the hogshead,
- 10:55Speaker 1: and a barrel that probably represents the hopping pot in
- 11:00Speaker 1: a fair fortune and the various butter beer carts since
- 11:03Speaker 1: they all have barrels in their designs and signs. So
- 11:09Speaker 1: on the spirit jersey, those logos are up the sleeve
- 11:12Speaker 1: on the T shirt, they're on the back in on
- 11:14Speaker 1: the bucket hat because of course we have a bucket hat.
- 11:17Speaker 1: They're incorporated around the word of butter beer. Yeah, so
- 11:23Speaker 1: butter Beer Season runs from March to May, but the
- 11:27Speaker 1: merch will probably be around longer than that since they
- 11:29Speaker 1: still have last year's butter Beer Season shirts in the
- 11:32Speaker 1: parks at the moment.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So yeah, that's awesome. I feel like we're not that
- 11:39Speaker 3: far away from Duncan and Warner Brothers doing something together
- 11:43Speaker 3: where we've got like Hogwarts runs on butter beer and
- 11:48Speaker 3: it's in the like the pink and orange colors, and
- 11:51Speaker 3: I just every time I'm there, I'm like, I feel
- 11:55Speaker 3: like Dunkin Donuts is going to come in and run
- 11:56Speaker 3: honey dukes at some point.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Oh man, you know, if I could go to a
- 12:01Speaker 1: Duncan drive through and get my hot butter beer.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yes, if they made good hot butter beer, that'd be incredible.
- 12:09Speaker 1: If it actually tasted like the Park's.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Hot butter beer, that'd be great. Yes.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean, we got the Krispy Kreme collaboration last year,
- 12:17Speaker 2: so I mean it only makes sense that you know,
- 12:21Speaker 2: Duncan kind of like, you know, kind of like swoops
- 12:25Speaker 2: in and see what what they can.
- 12:27Speaker 3: What they can do as a person. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 3: look at Girl Scout Cookies, all of it, Hoggin DAWs.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Everybody will be involved in someone, I'm sure in a
- 12:36Speaker 3: Harry Potter collab.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 1: All right, So a shorter news segment, but I'm sure
- 12:46Speaker 1: more will be coming out pretty soon as we get
- 12:48Speaker 1: closer to the TV show and everything of that nature.
- 12:51Speaker 1: So but for now, that's all for the news. Want

- 13:16Speaker 2: Okay, So for today's main discussion, as we anticipated on
- 13:20Speaker 2: our intro, we are going to be jumping forward from
- 13:24Speaker 2: the previous EA and Lego era episodes into the first
- 13:28Speaker 2: truly modern RPG attempt, which is a Howard's Legacy. So
- 13:34Speaker 2: before we dive in, we just wanted to ask Sam,
- 13:37Speaker 2: who we feel has a lot more experience with this
- 13:40Speaker 2: than we do, and actually had the chance to talk
- 13:44Speaker 2: with some of the creators and just you know, really
- 13:48Speaker 2: get some inside info and we just want to know
- 13:51Speaker 2: a little bit about how your experience was.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's me. My name is Sam Hi. I
- 13:59Speaker 3: had an awesome op oportunity with a man named Adrian Ropp,
- 14:01Speaker 3: who was the lead story writer for about eighty percent
- 14:05Speaker 3: of the Hogwarts Legacy game. So I took a video
- 14:09Speaker 3: game writing class with him a little under two years
- 14:13Speaker 3: ago and we got to know each other a little bit. Obviously,
- 14:16Speaker 3: there's one of maybe like forty forty five people in
- 14:19Speaker 3: that class, so not a small responsibility for that man
- 14:23Speaker 3: and I then we got to talk about Harry Potter clearly,
- 14:28Speaker 3: but we invited him onto three broomsticks and you guys
- 14:31Speaker 3: can go and listen to the interview at any point.
- 14:34Speaker 3: So he was an awesome insight into what was going
- 14:36Speaker 3: on with that game. Some of the big notes that
- 14:38Speaker 3: I remember taking away from was that on the interview
- 14:42Speaker 3: we asked him like, so, why didn't this game include
- 14:46Speaker 3: this or this or this? And he would say, essentially,
- 14:51Speaker 3: we wanted the game to be everything that everybody desired.
- 14:56Speaker 3: And then, instead of answering that question directly, which is,
- 14:59Speaker 3: you know, kind of a possible long answer to bank
- 15:01Speaker 3: about the inner politic workings of video game companies and
- 15:04Speaker 3: who's giving what and that sort of stuff, he explained
- 15:08Speaker 3: how when they first wrote all the dialogue of the game,
- 15:12Speaker 3: they said, great, are we doing a digital release? Only
- 15:15Speaker 3: are you doing on disc release? And they said, well,
- 15:18Speaker 3: we want to do some special edition on disc releases
- 15:20Speaker 3: at least, so we should be selling a distantly said okay,
- 15:24Speaker 3: well we can put all your dialogue on two discs.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Would you like to sell three to have the actual
- 15:30Speaker 3: game on it? And they were like okay. So the
- 15:33Speaker 3: amount of data that went into building that game was
- 15:35Speaker 3: quite enormous, and I think that's one of the reasons
- 15:38Speaker 3: why when we were sort of alluding to the question
- 15:41Speaker 3: of why does that game feel empty at points we
- 15:44Speaker 3: got this huge map, it was because they put they
- 15:47Speaker 3: put so much data into building the actual game itself,
- 15:51Speaker 3: and so the story features were a bit truncated. That's
- 15:54Speaker 3: my best interpretation of his answer, but I think that
- 15:57Speaker 3: was a huge takeaway for all of us on on
- 16:00Speaker 3: the interview panel, going oh oh oh, I see okay,
- 16:04Speaker 3: So there's like some real word ramifications of like, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 3: we just don't have as much data s based on
- 16:09Speaker 3: laser discs as you do. I mean, it's funny magnetic tape,
- 16:13Speaker 3: what you use for VHS has now come back in
- 16:16Speaker 3: as a major like storage data for like big big,
- 16:20Speaker 3: like you know, nothing at a personal level, nobody's going
- 16:23Speaker 3: back to VHS is here, but they use it because
- 16:25Speaker 3: it can you can put a lot more data on those.
- 16:27Speaker 3: But you're not going to sell a new PS five
- 16:30Speaker 3: or a PS six with magnetic cape capabilities. So you know,
- 16:36Speaker 3: there's I just think it was really cool. There's the
- 16:38Speaker 3: real life reasons behind why some of the things weren't
- 16:40Speaker 3: as good or why they were good. Was one of
- 16:44Speaker 3: the immediate things I noticed from both that game class
- 16:47Speaker 3: that I took, and from the interview.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Wow, that's really cool.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So yeah, it's really interesting.
- 16:52Speaker 1: What an experience to be able to take a class
- 16:54Speaker 1: with somebody like that.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it was. It was super cool.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Yeah awesome.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I still think he teaches them. I don't. I don't
- 17:02Speaker 3: work for Elevator, but e l v t R No.
- 17:06Speaker 3: E l v RT is the company, and I still
- 17:09Speaker 3: think he teaches that class once a year, so people
- 17:11Speaker 3: are interested, they can go.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Is it in person or is it like a virtual.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Thing a zoom. I think he's based out of Minnesota,
- 17:18Speaker 3: so it's good. I'm I'm in California, so there's no
- 17:21Speaker 3: way I was lepping out to Minnesota once a week. Wow.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Very cool.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, thanks for sharing that, of course.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So then you're gonna definitely have stuff to add throughout
- 17:32Speaker 1: as we talk about some of these things.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So going a little bit back, so we already
- 17:42Speaker 2: of course discussed the EA games and the Lego Harry
- 17:44Speaker 2: Potter games. So unlike these film tie end games, Howard's
- 17:49Speaker 2: Legacy was actually conceived as a standalone Wizarding World RPT,
- 17:54Speaker 2: so that is, you know, a game designed to let
- 17:56Speaker 2: players inhabit the setting. Without having to tell Retell Harry
- 18:01Speaker 2: story beat four beat. So this was carried out under
- 18:05Speaker 2: Porky Games, so Warner Brothers label for Wizarding World titles,
- 18:09Speaker 2: and it quickly became the franchise's biggest gaming swing in
- 18:13Speaker 2: terms of scope, budget, and overall impact as we've seen
- 18:18Speaker 2: across social media and just in general how huge this
- 18:23Speaker 2: game was when it was released. So a little bit
- 18:28Speaker 2: about the you know, before the announcement, like we're going
- 18:33Speaker 2: back a little bit in history. In January twenty seventeen,
- 18:37Speaker 2: Warner Brothers acquired Avalanche Software, So this set the stage
- 18:41Speaker 2: for the studio to take on a major project outside
- 18:44Speaker 2: of its previous Disney related era, and Porky Games became
- 18:49Speaker 2: the umbrella for Withering World games, some of which a
- 18:52Speaker 2: lot of you are familiar with. Harry Potter, Hogwart's Mystery,
- 18:55Speaker 2: Harry Potter Wizards Unite, Harry Potter Puzzles and Spells, Harry
- 18:59Speaker 2: Potter Magic Awakened, and Harry Potter Quated Champions. And this
- 19:06Speaker 2: Hogwart's Legacy obviously was intended as the defining three D
- 19:10Speaker 2: immersive experience. So we already had a few games released
- 19:15Speaker 2: under Portugy Games. I believe Hogwart's Mystery was released in
- 19:20Speaker 2: twenty eighteen, early twenty eighteen, and Wizards Unite. I think
- 19:24Speaker 2: even before that. It was during the Pokemon Go boom.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like it was around in late twenty
- 19:31Speaker 1: seventeen or mid yeah, because I remember playing it at
- 19:35Speaker 1: Miss Tican that year. Everyone was running around playing Wizards Unite.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It was a good game. Actually, I actually thoroughly enjoyed it,
- 19:46Speaker 2: but I didn't. I didn't really pay that much afterward,
- 19:49Speaker 2: and I guess many people didn't because they they discontinue
- 19:53Speaker 2: the game.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, Well, the pandemic hit and it was like, Okay,
- 19:58Speaker 1: we're not supposed to be leaving our houses, so we're
- 20:00Speaker 1: just sitting on our couch hoping something's nearby outside on
- 20:03Speaker 1: the sidewalk that we can capture.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah, And we are going to be talking about the
- 20:10Speaker 2: Harry Potter mobile games as well, and so I'm sure
- 20:14Speaker 2: we're going to be touching more on these games in
- 20:17Speaker 2: a future episode. But yeah, and going back to the game,
- 20:22Speaker 2: A key creative goal here was to capture the faithful
- 20:25Speaker 2: faithfulness to the tone and recognizability of the source material,
- 20:30Speaker 2: while also expanding the world beyond well known iconic locations.
- 20:35Speaker 2: So this did meant not only exploring Hogwarts, but also
- 20:39Speaker 2: going beyond. So you have, like you said, Sam, this
- 20:42Speaker 2: huge map, like it's it's really gigantic, Like it's almost
- 20:47Speaker 2: it almost feels like, yeah, like there's no limit to
- 20:51Speaker 2: the map because you can just be flying on your
- 20:53Speaker 2: broomstick NonStop and just you know, you're always going to
- 20:55Speaker 2: end up in a camping site or in a village
- 20:58Speaker 2: or somewhere else. Like it's it's really really big.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And it renders really quickly. Like that's one of the
- 21:05Speaker 3: big components is that you can be flying towards Hogwarts
- 21:08Speaker 3: and it just gets clearer and clearer and clearer at
- 21:11Speaker 3: a rapid speed depending on how powerful your system is.
- 21:14Speaker 3: But if you're using PS five specs or Xbox one
- 21:17Speaker 3: spex or better, the fact that the world just it
- 21:22Speaker 3: continues to be clear and you're not getting pixelated is
- 21:25Speaker 3: pretty remarkable for a game that size.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, yeah, especially on the Switch. Like the first
- 21:33Speaker 2: model that came out that the first version of the
- 21:35Speaker 2: game for Switch one, it did come with a lot
- 21:38Speaker 2: of that pixelate, pixelated and lack of depth of field.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And now the switch to version has been such a
- 21:46Speaker 2: huge upgrade, like, well.
- 21:48Speaker 3: The Switch Too is a massive piece of great technology
- 21:51Speaker 3: where they kept the handheld feel to it, but we're
- 21:54Speaker 3: able to increase their specs and their graphics cards so much.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It was so much more that it's it's better for
- 22:02Speaker 3: almost all things, including things like you know, Scarlet and
- 22:05Speaker 3: Violet at the Pokemon game that was so maligned for
- 22:08Speaker 3: the Switch one. Yes, that you now have working windmills
- 22:11Speaker 3: that don't look like they're gonna spin off and chop
- 22:13Speaker 3: your head off. So that's that's helpful. Yeah, absolutely, it's great.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. My boyfriend is actually a fan Pokemon fan,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and he now that he has to Switch Too. He's like,
- 22:24Speaker 2: oh my god, the upgrade has been tremendous, Like it's helpful. Yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 2: And he was like, it's so bad because the damage
- 22:30Speaker 2: is already done. The game has the reputation it has
- 22:33Speaker 2: because of all these you know, flaws that it had
- 22:36Speaker 2: in the Switch one version. But now it's like if
- 22:38Speaker 2: it had only come out for Switch Too, then this
- 22:40Speaker 2: would have been a different story.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, and that's one of the reasons why
- 22:44Speaker 3: I took Hogwarts, Like is he's so long to get
- 22:45Speaker 3: on the Switch period, it's because they were like, how
- 22:48Speaker 3: on earth do we do this without? Because I think
- 22:52Speaker 3: it was rumored at one point in something an article
- 22:55Speaker 3: on game Central or something where it was like Hogwarts
- 22:58Speaker 3: Legacy currently would take up all all your memories are
- 23:01Speaker 3: on the switch one if you downloaded it right now,
- 23:03Speaker 3: and so they kept pushing out when they were putting
- 23:05Speaker 3: it on the switch.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah h yeah. That we talks about it being a
- 23:10Speaker 2: cloud yeah, cloud service game, so it would only be
- 23:14Speaker 2: played online or you know, and people are like freaking
- 23:17Speaker 2: out about that, but that wasn't the case. Fortunately. Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: we're gonna be talking a little bit about that.
- 23:23Speaker 1: But as a switch user with Hogwart's Legacy, it runs
- 23:26Speaker 1: pretty smooth. I will say I was kind of surprised
- 23:31Speaker 1: after all the delays, but I was like, you know what, like,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I'm not a gamer. I'm not going to go out
- 23:35Speaker 1: and buy a PlayStation just to play Hogwarts Legacy, Like
- 23:38Speaker 1: just wait it out.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Nice, that's awesome.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. So one of the first important
- 23:48Speaker 2: early decisions was that they set the game in the
- 23:50Speaker 2: eighteen nineties, so this is kind of like roughly a
- 23:53Speaker 2: century before Harry Potter. So this allowed the writers to
- 23:57Speaker 2: avoid constantly colliding with the Protagon and our arcs of
- 24:01Speaker 2: that story, while still delivering the atmosphere that fans associate
- 24:05Speaker 2: with Hogwarts. And again, unlike the original EA games or
- 24:09Speaker 2: the Lego games, which centered on Harry's years at Hogwarts,
- 24:13Speaker 2: the pitch for Hogwarts Legacy was basically creating your own
- 24:16Speaker 2: story in the Wizarding World.
- 24:19Speaker 1: This was the best decision they ever could have made. Yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 1: it agree, like, this is what makes this game so
- 24:25Speaker 1: good is the time that it's set. Like it's perfect
- 24:29Speaker 1: because you, I mean you have like little bits of recognition,
- 24:32Speaker 1: like obviously the Headmaster, but yeah, you're not colliding with
- 24:40Speaker 1: things that you already know. It's very familiar but also new,
- 24:45Speaker 1: and it just works. It works for the whole thing well.
- 24:48Speaker 3: And it's interesting too. It's obviously very purposeful that they
- 24:51Speaker 3: choose eighteen early eighteen nineties because that is canonically before
- 24:55Speaker 3: Albus Dumbledore makes it to Hogwarts, and so you're not
- 24:59Speaker 3: dealing with any of the main characters. You are dealing
- 25:02Speaker 3: with a one side character that you get a little
- 25:05Speaker 3: bit of flavor of from his portrait, but you don't
- 25:07Speaker 3: actually know who he is. In Phineas Nigel's Black and
- 25:10Speaker 3: so you get that instant like, oh, the Headmaster's Phineas.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Oh that's fun. And then of course, as we is
- 25:15Speaker 3: known in the dock. Later we'll get to some of
- 25:17Speaker 3: the other characters and their last names and how they
- 25:19Speaker 3: coincide with it. But you get all of this great
- 25:21Speaker 3: sort of auxiliary information. Additionally, you have gotten the use
- 25:26Speaker 3: of trains. So there is the train station in Hogsmead.
- 25:29Speaker 3: They have already adopted the Hogwarts Express, so they haven't
- 25:31Speaker 3: gone too far back where you're like, wait, I'm in Hogsmead,
- 25:34Speaker 3: but there's no so for the layman fan, they're not
- 25:37Speaker 3: like what's going on. And additionally it's they've also put
- 25:41Speaker 3: in plumbing, so that's helpful in terms of like just
- 25:44Speaker 3: being able to run around and be like, oh, there
- 25:46Speaker 3: are bathrooms and look, I can find the Chamber of
- 25:47Speaker 3: Secrets entrance. Isn't that cool? That's fun look at that.
- 25:50Speaker 3: And also then you don't have to learn a spell
- 25:52Speaker 3: to vanish your own poop from your robes. One of
- 25:56Speaker 3: the wildest thing that ever tweeted about out.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's actually great. It's I mean, it's great
- 26:09Speaker 2: that this was set and I think it's something that
- 26:11Speaker 2: The Fantastic Beast films collided a lot with the main storyline,
- 26:17Speaker 2: and I actually liked it, but I understand why. Many
- 26:20Speaker 2: times it felt like too much fan service as opposed
- 26:23Speaker 2: to actually telling a story that could work on its own.
- 26:26Speaker 2: And they did it really well with Mute story in
- 26:28Speaker 2: the first film, and then you know, they started kind
- 26:30Speaker 2: of like blurring the lines between Mute and Dumbledore slash Grinderwald,
- 26:35Speaker 2: and you know, I think that ultimately led to the
- 26:39Speaker 2: franchisese Franchise's demise in somehow, among other things, of course,
- 26:43Speaker 2: but it was just the fact that it seemed like
- 26:46Speaker 2: it was two different stories that they kind of forced together.
- 26:49Speaker 2: So it's nice to see that this is like so
- 26:51Speaker 2: far back, I.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Think you've you've you've hit it on the head there
- 26:54Speaker 3: right this the first movie is a Newt's Commander story.
- 26:58Speaker 3: It's essentially, to mention what we've already said, it's a
- 27:01Speaker 3: Pokemon Go story that happens at the very end sprinkling
- 27:06Speaker 3: a little like, oh, look at Grindwald, and then it
- 27:08Speaker 3: immediately shifts into becoming a Dumbledore Grindalwald story. And it
- 27:13Speaker 3: feels like we leave a lot of those wonderful characters
- 27:15Speaker 3: at the beginning to the side, and obviously there's you know,
- 27:18Speaker 3: Nut's future wife getting off to the side with more
- 27:21Speaker 3: of a real world issue. There were all sorts of
- 27:23Speaker 3: stuff that happened in the actual ramifications of like canceling
- 27:27Speaker 3: certain people not wanting to go and support them in
- 27:30Speaker 3: the theaters that kill off that story. But even with that,
- 27:33Speaker 3: even if you throw all that out, I think there
- 27:35Speaker 3: was dwindling interest because Newt's story was so incredible and
- 27:40Speaker 3: then we already kind of know. This is the problem
- 27:42Speaker 3: with prequels. Sometimes you know what's happening at the end,
- 27:45Speaker 3: so that you find with Dumbledore and Grindwald there are
- 27:48Speaker 3: no real stakes here. I know what's happening with these guys,
- 27:51Speaker 3: and I can suss out who Tina is based off
- 27:54Speaker 3: of my copy a fantastic piece of Where to Find Them.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I know Nut's gonna be alive because the third movie
- 28:00Speaker 3: shows up on the Marauders map. So Jacob, I hope you.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Live, Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Queenie, are you gonna be alive? Because zoe Satana is
- 28:11Speaker 3: not alive anymore? No, it wasn't Zoey Sandana, was it.
- 28:14Speaker 3: It was kravit Ze Kravitz. Thank you yes, yeh Kravitz, Yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 3: real Astak little lives in it. Gosh, Okay, this isn't
- 28:23Speaker 3: speak bast I will not raise that from the from
- 28:26Speaker 3: the ashes of the podcast, but yeah, I think they
- 28:30Speaker 3: did a really great job here of giving you a
- 28:32Speaker 3: unique story in a unique setting that was still familiar.
- 28:36Speaker 2: M hmm yeah, yeah, absolutely so a little bit going
- 28:41Speaker 2: back to the announcement era because this was filt like
- 28:45Speaker 2: an era because it happened. It was a long time
- 28:48Speaker 2: between the announcement and the game being released. But this
- 28:51Speaker 2: goes all the way back to twenty eighteen. So there
- 28:55Speaker 2: had been already rumors and speculation about a potential RPG
- 28:58Speaker 2: game based in the Wizarding World. So obviously Warner Brothers
- 29:03Speaker 2: acquisition of Avalanche Software opened the door to that possibility,
- 29:07Speaker 2: and before anything was made official in October twenty eighteen,
- 29:12Speaker 2: there was an unofficial game trailer leaked on Reddit and
- 29:18Speaker 2: it showed character creation, spell casting, magical creatures, and exploration,
- 29:23Speaker 2: which was a very surprising leak, to be honest, in
- 29:28Speaker 2: something that you wouldn't expect to kind of like, you know,
- 29:31Speaker 2: get exposed so early on. But I think we all
- 29:36Speaker 2: remember that trailer when it came out and people like,
- 29:38Speaker 2: you know, they were like, it's just realist, It's not
- 29:40Speaker 2: real is it, Like that's a leak.
- 29:43Speaker 3: You know who remembers that leak very well is Adrian Rop.
- 29:46Speaker 3: We asked him about this on the podcast. We said,
- 29:49Speaker 3: one of our questions, it was unfortunate Ev who was
- 29:52Speaker 3: is one of the hosts Ofvert three Broomstick's big hogwarts,
- 29:54Speaker 3: like a UC fan, and we just couldn't make it
- 29:57Speaker 3: work with her being in Ireland and us doing a
- 30:01Speaker 3: Midwest time on a weeknight, and so she couldn't make it.
- 30:04Speaker 3: But one of her main questions was did this leak
- 30:09Speaker 3: give you guys a sense of pressure to get the
- 30:10Speaker 3: game moving get out earlier? And Adrian said no, that
- 30:15Speaker 3: that didn't rush timetables, didn't rush what we were trying
- 30:18Speaker 3: to do with the game, because we we wanted to
- 30:19Speaker 3: make it as good as possible. And then he went
- 30:22Speaker 3: on a pretty you know, condemning little monologue about how
- 30:26Speaker 3: unprofessional that was and that this is months and years
- 30:31Speaker 3: of people's work and to put out an unfinished product
- 30:36Speaker 3: on an unapproved timeline was just incredibly unprofessional. And they
- 30:41Speaker 3: know who the guy is, and and that guy knows
- 30:44Speaker 3: who he is and everything, but it's really one of
- 30:48Speaker 3: the most unprofessional things that he's seen. So he was
- 30:51Speaker 3: very very unhappy. And you know, I always I always
- 30:53Speaker 3: think of leaks on the side of the fan, which
- 30:55Speaker 3: is like, oh, whoa, that's cool, I'm glad to know
- 30:57Speaker 3: that information sometimes, But from the professional side is the
- 31:01Speaker 3: first time that I'd really heard somebody be like this,
- 31:04Speaker 3: this isn't the way that we wanted to launch it.
- 31:06Speaker 3: This isn't the way that we wanted people to see it.
- 31:07Speaker 3: We wanted them to have this, this, this, and this.
- 31:09Speaker 3: So that was he was really mad about that.
- 31:11Speaker 1: One. Wos so weird too, because what would you even
- 31:14Speaker 1: get out of that leaking it a.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Good relationship with the journalist, I think. I think it's
- 31:19Speaker 3: all about what when you're leaking information. So I would
- 31:22Speaker 3: gather that this is more of a higher up leak
- 31:25Speaker 3: than it is like somebody working on avalanche games. Because
- 31:28Speaker 3: you see this in the journalist game that if you
- 31:30Speaker 3: can get a journalist sort of on your side, that
- 31:33Speaker 3: journalist therefore doesn't write as many rude articles about you.
- 31:35Speaker 3: So this happens in the NBA or sports all the time.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Ramona Shelburn can get all of this great information about
- 31:41Speaker 3: the Lakers because she has an awesome relationship with former
- 31:43Speaker 3: owners Genie Buss. But she then also will never write
- 31:46Speaker 3: a rude article about Genie. So what is Genie Bus
- 31:50Speaker 3: get out of it a protection of one of her
- 31:52Speaker 3: local journalists. But then also the world gets this incredible
- 31:57Speaker 3: information that Genie wants to put out in the world
- 31:59Speaker 3: about the Lakers. So I think I think this was
- 32:01Speaker 3: probably a higher up Warner Brothers thing than it was
- 32:03Speaker 3: an Avalanche game thing.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Yeah that makes sense.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Huh yeah interesting. So obviously, like Warner Brothers did not
- 32:13Speaker 2: comment on these leagues, and it was not until September
- 32:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty that the game was officially announced, and from
- 32:22Speaker 2: the start it was as we already discussed, it was
- 32:26Speaker 2: framed as a large scale action RPG game, so it
- 32:29Speaker 2: came along with a trailer, which you know, was pretty
- 32:36Speaker 2: pretty awesome. I remember seeing it being like, oh, this
- 32:39Speaker 2: game is going to be huge, like, you know, this
- 32:42Speaker 2: is definitely going to be worth the time, the waiting time,
- 32:45Speaker 2: and it was. Yeah, it was very exciting.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Really, I think this game, that trailer and the game sales,
- 32:54Speaker 3: early game sales really sort of saved to the future.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Of Harry Potter at Warner Brothers. With all of the
- 32:59Speaker 3: fantastic these things falling off, I think there was a
- 33:02Speaker 3: real question of like, are fans done with this? And
- 33:06Speaker 3: then there was that huge reaction to the Jim Dale trailer. Right,
- 33:10Speaker 3: so we get Jim Dale, the US reader for the
- 33:12Speaker 3: audio books, coming in and that was something that Adrian
- 33:15Speaker 3: Rop specifically had to argue for. They didn't want to
- 33:17Speaker 3: pay jim Dale's rates and he was like, you guys
- 33:20Speaker 3: don't understand. This guy's huge in the Harry Potter world,
- 33:23Speaker 3: especially in the States, so having him come and do
- 33:27Speaker 3: this trailer is going to mean a lot. So they
- 33:28Speaker 3: eventually pushed forward with it, and I think there was
- 33:31Speaker 3: a good reaction to Jim Dale's voicing the trailer of that,
- 33:35Speaker 3: But then also because of their sales, this is when
- 33:38Speaker 3: new CEO of Warner brother comes and said, we want
- 33:40Speaker 3: more Harry Potter content, Let's recreate fans. This is when
- 33:44Speaker 3: you get this big reaction off the game is what
- 33:47Speaker 3: really starts the conversations about let's make a show.
- 33:51Speaker 1: What's really interesting though, is the success of Hogwart's Legacy
- 33:55Speaker 1: to me shows that there is still an appetite for
- 34:00Speaker 1: are stories that are spin offs, right, like not the
- 34:07Speaker 1: main story rehashed over and over. It's clear that people
- 34:11Speaker 1: want the world extended and they're willing to consume that
- 34:17Speaker 1: if done correctly. So it's interesting that the reaction from
- 34:22Speaker 1: that success was, well, let's go back and rehash the
- 34:25Speaker 1: seven books.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Again, and I like that's what yes, And I think
- 34:29Speaker 3: that's because they want to create a new era of
- 34:31Speaker 3: fans and there's two things going in their literacy. Oh
- 34:35Speaker 3: my gosh, let me resay that literacy rates are plummeting
- 34:38Speaker 3: in the United States, and so the idea of let's write,
- 34:41Speaker 3: let's put out more books is not a thing that
- 34:43Speaker 3: Warner Brothers wants to do, especially because they're not in
- 34:46Speaker 3: the book game. They want to recreate their fans. So
- 34:49Speaker 3: what are they going to do that with, Well, let's
- 34:51Speaker 3: put out a television show. People watch television show. They
- 34:54Speaker 3: do short form content more than they're doing law and
- 34:56Speaker 3: form content. So movies aren't the answer either. Let's get
- 35:00Speaker 3: a new whole new generation of Jen Alpha and Jen
- 35:02Speaker 3: Beta interested in this show, and therefore I will I
- 35:06Speaker 3: would put a lot of money down on the fact
- 35:07Speaker 3: that we will get somewhere around season four, Season five
- 35:11Speaker 3: of The Harry Potter Show announcements about spinoffs where they're
- 35:14Speaker 3: gonna capitalize during because that was something that they learned
- 35:17Speaker 3: from Game of Thrones is that it's harder to get
- 35:19Speaker 3: a spinoff going after the show is done. It's easier
- 35:23Speaker 3: to get it moving while the main show is running.
- 35:26Speaker 3: So I would gather that they are trying there. They
- 35:29Speaker 3: want to do more spinoffs. I'm sure we'll get a
- 35:31Speaker 3: Hot Gards Legacy two, et cetera, et cetera. We'll get spinoffs,
- 35:35Speaker 3: maybe not Xenophilias Love Good running a paper like the
- 35:38Speaker 3: office style, but something like that I would love. I
- 35:42Speaker 3: would watch that so much. You can get gym from
- 35:46Speaker 3: the office playing Xenophilis Love Good. That'd be great. But
- 35:48Speaker 3: I'm sure that we'll get more spinoffs after they re
- 35:51Speaker 3: establish their IP.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 35:58Speaker 2: So it was. The game was built on unreal engine
- 36:03Speaker 2: for with emphasis on modern presentation, so this included detailed environments,
- 36:07Speaker 2: bel effects, and broad exploration, and the estimated production cost
- 36:13Speaker 2: was widely reported at one hundred and fifty million, which
- 36:16Speaker 2: signaled a blockbuster level investment. For sure. One hundred and
- 36:20Speaker 2: fifty million is it's quite as quite a budget to
- 36:24Speaker 2: have for for a video game, really, but yeah, like
- 36:29Speaker 2: they were really putting all of their stakes in this,
- 36:33Speaker 2: Like it was you know, kind of like them really
- 36:36Speaker 2: betting and believing in the idea of this game and
- 36:38Speaker 2: being like, you know, like you said, Amy, like this
- 36:42Speaker 2: is you know, we're investing in something that's in the
- 36:45Speaker 2: Wizarding World, but it's not Harry Potter, and it's pretty
- 36:48Speaker 2: far off from being Harry Potter. So how is the
- 36:51Speaker 2: you know, how are the fans, how is the public
- 36:53Speaker 2: going to react to this? But it seems like the
- 36:57Speaker 2: premise was there and it was very promising and they
- 37:01Speaker 2: actually did take that leap of faith, but you know,
- 37:04Speaker 2: and you know, in all and they actually the outcome
- 37:08Speaker 2: was you know, in their favor at the end of
- 37:10Speaker 2: the day. So it's very much it's also really appreciated
- 37:14Speaker 2: that they that they took it. So when Howard's Legacy
- 37:19Speaker 2: was first laid it for twenty twenty one, the team
- 37:23Speaker 2: pushed it back to twenty twenty two. So here's when
- 37:25Speaker 2: the delays start happening. They said that they needed more
- 37:29Speaker 2: time to deliver the experience at the quality level that
- 37:32Speaker 2: fans expected, so it slipped again into February tenth, twenty
- 37:37Speaker 2: twenty three, for PC, PlayStation five, Xbox Series x S
- 37:44Speaker 2: and with the same reasoning, so more development time, you know,
- 37:48Speaker 2: means having that extra time to make the game feel
- 37:52Speaker 2: right at launch and not having as many like needs
- 37:56Speaker 2: for you know, there being like patches released and just
- 38:00Speaker 2: having this mooth game from the get go, which ultimately
- 38:04Speaker 2: is good, it's bad for the momentum, like people are
- 38:06Speaker 2: so anxious and we want everything by yesterday now, and
- 38:10Speaker 2: so it is a little bit like it's hard to
- 38:14Speaker 2: wait so much. But then it's like, Okay, it was
- 38:15Speaker 2: worth it was worth it, and in the end it
- 38:17Speaker 2: wasn't like something, you know, like it wasn't that long
- 38:21Speaker 2: after all.
- 38:21Speaker 3: I think that these are I'm so glad that the
- 38:24Speaker 3: game came out the way it is. I'll carry out
- 38:26Speaker 3: that first. It's the fact that it did super well.
- 38:30Speaker 3: I think there are no regrets in terms of actually
- 38:32Speaker 3: putting in the delays. I do wonder as one of
- 38:36Speaker 3: the bigger what ifs in the video game industry twenty
- 38:39Speaker 3: twenty one, when it was originally slated for is when
- 38:42Speaker 3: we're all inside our houses all waiting for new video
- 38:45Speaker 3: games to play. I mean tons of thousands of hours
- 38:48Speaker 3: are being played on Starde Valley, on Animal Crossing, on
- 38:51Speaker 3: old video games, and I just wonder what the hype
- 38:54Speaker 3: would have been like in twenty twenty one had this
- 38:57Speaker 3: game come out during COVID while we're all in our houses.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I remember my friend Christian and I who's been on
- 39:04Speaker 3: as a guest with three broomsticks, when I would send
- 39:07Speaker 3: him articles about Hogwarts I see all the time, and
- 39:10Speaker 3: one of them was big delay moved to twenty twenty two,
- 39:12Speaker 3: and he just goes right, because we all don't want
- 39:15Speaker 3: to play an awesome game video game right now while
- 39:17Speaker 3: we're stuck inside. And so I think that is one
- 39:20Speaker 3: of the bigger what ifs, Like is this game even
- 39:23Speaker 3: bigger if it is completely good, ready to go by
- 39:26Speaker 3: twenty twenty one during COVID.
- 39:30Speaker 1: It's so funny with all these delays, because if there's
- 39:33Speaker 1: one thing about the Harry Potter fandom, it's the fact
- 39:36Speaker 1: that we all will doom spiral very quickly. Right, So,
- 39:40Speaker 1: remember when these delays were happening, and everyone's like, Oh,
- 39:42Speaker 1: this game's gonna be horrible, it's gonna be the worst
- 39:45Speaker 1: thing ever. They can't even handle putting it out and
- 39:47Speaker 1: then it comes out we're all like.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Ooh, we like this, oh shiny? Yeah, absolutely, yeah, And okay,
- 40:01Speaker 4: going back into the delays, So and we were talking
- 40:04Speaker 4: about this earlier, touched on this, but the delays also
- 40:08Speaker 4: became platform specific, So PlayStation four Xbox one were pushed
- 40:12Speaker 4: to May fifth, twenty twenty three, and Nintendo Switch, which
- 40:16Speaker 4: was I think the console that most had to wait
- 40:18Speaker 4: for this game by far, was moved to November fourteenth,
- 40:22Speaker 4: twenty twenty three.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Again the same statement about needing that additional time to
- 40:28Speaker 2: polish the game and to make it because it's a
- 40:31Speaker 2: third party game as well, so they need to adapt
- 40:34Speaker 2: it onto their console, and they needed them to be
- 40:38Speaker 2: happy with the game from the start and not. And
- 40:40Speaker 2: people were actually very surprised, you know, positively surprised by
- 40:45Speaker 2: how good it turned out to be. And then a
- 40:52Speaker 2: Nintendo Switch to version launched on June fifth, twenty twenty five,
- 40:56Speaker 2: and its position as an enhanced edition with improved performs
- 41:00Speaker 2: and loading and yeah, so yeah, the Switch did have
- 41:04Speaker 2: like those like you had to for instance, when you
- 41:06Speaker 2: were entering Hawks Meat, you had to there was this
- 41:09Speaker 2: map that had to look like the loading screens and
- 41:12Speaker 2: now like you can go in and out of hawks
- 41:14Speaker 2: Meat without having that, so really, oh yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah is far better experience.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I bought a switch with the one purpose of playing
- 41:29Speaker 1: Hogwarts Legacy, and that was why I bought my switch,
- 41:32Speaker 1: And then I was stuck waiting until November. I was like, well,
- 41:36Speaker 1: fund other.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Games now, but what other games did you find?
- 41:40Speaker 1: Animal Crossing obviously fantastic game, Big Dreamlight Valley player.
- 41:46Speaker 3: I love dream Light Valley. Get me all of those
- 41:49Speaker 3: magic thorns. I want them gone.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Love my cozy games, you know.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Yeah, have you played Stardy Valley?
- 41:56Speaker 1: Then I tried to Okay, not your cup of Team Yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 1: which I think is a very unpopular opinion. People love
- 42:05Speaker 1: that game so much. But I just I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I just I wasn't wasn't yeh it is.
- 42:11Speaker 3: It is definitely like a system building game where you
- 42:14Speaker 3: basically build an engine the entire time and that never stops,
- 42:17Speaker 3: and that can be quite tiresome. But you have saved
- 42:19Speaker 3: yourself the angst of waiting for a Haunted Chocolate Tier,
- 42:22Speaker 3: which is his next game that he announced too early
- 42:26Speaker 3: and now it won't come out until like twenty thirty.
- 42:28Speaker 1: So everyone, everyone, Hogwarts Legacy well, it's only that he's.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Only one man. Wow that builds this game.
- 42:36Speaker 1: So well, I guess he's got a reason.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Got to give it to him.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Yeah, apparently.
- 42:44Speaker 2: So moving on to a little bit about the setting. So,
- 42:47Speaker 2: as we touched on, this is set in the eighteen
- 42:50Speaker 2: nineties at Hogwarts and surrounding areas. So this includes Hawkspeed
- 42:54Speaker 2: that forbid in forest and the wider Scottish Highlands. And
- 42:57Speaker 2: this also includes fortresses, abandoned, ruined, and small villages, all
- 43:02Speaker 2: which come with quests and challenges. So you begin the
- 43:06Speaker 2: game as a fifteen year old wizard or witch who
- 43:11Speaker 2: is starting school laid as a fifth year student with
- 43:15Speaker 2: the rare ability to perceive and wield ancient magic. So
- 43:19Speaker 2: the core narrative question of the game is why this
- 43:22Speaker 2: magic is resurfacing and who is trying to exploit it?
- 43:26Speaker 2: And this is a very interesting point, like I don't
- 43:29Speaker 2: think I remember our character having a background story that much.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Like you're just thrown into the wizarding world and it's like, hey,
- 43:37Speaker 2: you're fifteen and you're just going to get sorted into
- 43:39Speaker 2: Hogwarts and you know, and it's like, you know, what
- 43:43Speaker 2: is my story? Where am I coming from? Why am
- 43:46Speaker 2: I only, you know, attending Hogwarts at this age.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Did I know.
- 43:50Speaker 1: About the Wizarding World before I must develop this magic?
- 43:54Speaker 3: None of that, None of that is explained at all.
- 43:58Speaker 3: The it's Bella from Twilight syndrome. They want you to
- 44:01Speaker 3: project yourself onto this character as much as humanly possible,
- 44:06Speaker 3: and so that's I think that's why they don't do that.
- 44:08Speaker 3: They it seems like, you know a little bit because
- 44:11Speaker 3: you're not constantly going, what do you mean dragons exist?
- 44:14Speaker 3: What do you mean? What are these things that are festials?
- 44:16Speaker 3: What there's a wand what's inside of it? Is it
- 44:19Speaker 3: chocolate or is it a human finger? What's going on?
- 44:22Speaker 3: Like none of that happens, So it seems like you
- 44:24Speaker 3: know a little bit. It seems like you you've just
- 44:26Speaker 3: been seen as a squib and and it comes in.
- 44:30Speaker 3: But they you're right, they don't ever tell you, hello,
- 44:33Speaker 3: you're from Kent.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:38Speaker 2: And also like even in the Pokemon games, going back
- 44:40Speaker 2: to Pokemon, but like you have your you know you
- 44:44Speaker 2: you you always have this starting point. You're moving into
- 44:46Speaker 2: this new you know region and you have you know,
- 44:49Speaker 2: you're coming with your mother and you have like that
- 44:52Speaker 2: tiny story. It's not too much. But it's just a
- 44:55Speaker 2: basic info to get started. And then it's like you
- 44:57Speaker 2: only you even have your own name and you you know,
- 45:00Speaker 2: there's not much information about you. So I think they
- 45:02Speaker 2: could have maybe try to go down that lane. But
- 45:06Speaker 2: it would have been cool at least to see your
- 45:07Speaker 2: character receiving his Hobwartz letter. That would have been, yeah,
- 45:11Speaker 2: like a cutscene or something like introducing you where you
- 45:14Speaker 2: were from and just you know what made you, you know,
- 45:18Speaker 2: end up in this in this situation. But I think
- 45:21Speaker 2: it's part it's part of that that you know, Samy
- 45:23Speaker 2: Manshell like us being like ourselves yea, and we're like
- 45:27Speaker 2: thrown into this world.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Well yeah, in Pokemon, right, they they give you just
- 45:32Speaker 3: enough to make sure that you're traumatized in adulthood because
- 45:36Speaker 3: I'm ten years old and you threw me out into
- 45:38Speaker 3: the grass with dangerous beasts. That that is always frightening.
- 45:43Speaker 3: So I think that projections a huge deal and a
- 45:46Speaker 3: part of it in terms of cut scenes. The video
- 45:48Speaker 3: game industry is really quite odd because I think it's
- 45:51Speaker 3: something only like forty six percent of players actually make
- 45:53Speaker 3: it to the end of a video game that they buy,
- 45:56Speaker 3: and so video and companies do not like paying for
- 45:59Speaker 3: cut scenes at the end. They like paying for cutscenes
- 46:01Speaker 3: at the beginning. So a trick of the trade is
- 46:04Speaker 3: to get all of your cut scenes for the end
- 46:08Speaker 3: made first. So by the time the head honchos go,
- 46:11Speaker 3: you know, I don't know that we need this cutscene,
- 46:12Speaker 3: you go, well, it's already made. Do you just want
- 46:15Speaker 3: us to waste that money? And they go, oh, okay,
- 46:16Speaker 3: never mind, never mind, will put it in the game.
- 46:19Speaker 3: So I think that's one of the reasons why we
- 46:20Speaker 3: get not as many cut scenes at the beginning as
- 46:23Speaker 3: you might think. So instead of getting the Hogwarts letter
- 46:27Speaker 3: being handed to your character, they just give you the
- 46:30Speaker 3: Hogwart letter at the beginning, right, It's like one of
- 46:32Speaker 3: the first things that comes up after you say I
- 46:33Speaker 3: want to start a new game, and that's fascinating. But
- 46:37Speaker 3: it would have been cool to like, hey, am I
- 46:40Speaker 3: in a although maybe they didn't want to do like
- 46:42Speaker 3: a Charles Dickens London apartment where you're like, why is
- 46:46Speaker 3: Gonzo outside my window? Is Mapu's Christmas Carol being filmed
- 46:49Speaker 3: right now? So maybe they didn't want to do that.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm also guessing regarding cut scenes, your character.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Since it's so personalized, you know, there's this endless possibilities
- 47:03Speaker 2: of variations that they would have had to like, so yeah, yeah,
- 47:09Speaker 2: so it makes it almost like really hard. But then
- 47:12Speaker 2: you think about there are cut scenes where your character's there,
- 47:16Speaker 2: so you know it's and it's your own avatar. So yeah, yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 2: it's it's It's definitely something that would have been nice
- 47:25Speaker 2: to have like a little add on and just kind
- 47:29Speaker 2: of like to give you a little bit more background
- 47:31Speaker 2: in your story. But yeah, I think it's it's not
- 47:34Speaker 2: it's not essential either, Like it doesn't take away from
- 47:37Speaker 2: the experience of the game, right totally. So, speaking of
- 47:42Speaker 2: this little background, the plot, so the story kicks off
- 47:46Speaker 2: with this dramatic incident that involves an artifact, a port
- 47:50Speaker 2: key escaped, a port key escape, and discovery that you
- 47:54Speaker 2: can see traces of ancient magic. So you're pulled into Hawkwarts,
- 47:58Speaker 2: Hidden History, the Map Chamber, and four portrait guys known
- 48:02Speaker 2: as the Keepers. So you complete four trials, each revealing
- 48:07Speaker 2: pensive memories tied to Isidora Morganach not sure if I'm
- 48:12Speaker 2: butchering that last name. Morganoch, thank you, a witch whose
- 48:19Speaker 2: pursuit of removing pain became dangerously power driven, and the
- 48:25Speaker 2: endgame coverages converges sorry on the repository of ancient magic.
- 48:30Speaker 2: So rand Rock, who is the main antagonist in this story,
- 48:34Speaker 2: reaches it, absorbs its power, and the finale escalates into
- 48:38Speaker 2: this large boss confrontation and your final choice is basically
- 48:43Speaker 2: to seal the power away or claim it, followed by
- 48:47Speaker 2: a return to school life, outprep, companion arcs, and house
- 48:51Speaker 2: Cup wrap up. So, having half said that, we should
- 48:55Speaker 2: probably add this disclaimer of spoiler alert on the way. Sorry, sorry,
- 49:04Speaker 2: but yeah, that's a little bit of it. The plot
- 49:06Speaker 2: overview in general terms.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the story kicking off in dramatic fashion
- 49:12Speaker 3: has the best use of thestals that I've seen, which
- 49:17Speaker 3: we've only seen like maybe two different versions of Festals
- 49:20Speaker 3: maybe if they're even in uh Fantastic Beast, I don't remember.
- 49:24Speaker 3: But that use of there's a big dragon attack at
- 49:27Speaker 3: the beginning, a man is killed during it, but you
- 49:30Speaker 3: don't actually see the body, but your avatar suddenly can
- 49:33Speaker 3: see the thestals I found a very effective and cool
- 49:36Speaker 3: use to bring us into the world instantly and have
- 49:39Speaker 3: a rather kid friendly version of death.
- 49:43Speaker 1: M hm, yeah, yeah, there's a lot going on with
- 49:49Speaker 1: the plot. I mean, obviously the ancient magic stuff is
- 49:54Speaker 1: like the big one, right, but then you've also got
- 49:59Speaker 1: the whole goblins stuff going on. You've got the the
- 50:05Speaker 1: Watch McCollums, poachers going on, You've got like all these
- 50:09Speaker 1: different things.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Spider's on the loose everywhere.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So it is interesting because there's multiple different
- 50:21Speaker 1: like bad guys. I guess throughout this game that you're
- 50:24Speaker 1: dealing with all at once. On your little wandering.
- 50:28Speaker 2: You're always in perils once you leave the school grounds.
- 50:32Speaker 2: It's like you know you're you're about to face a
- 50:35Speaker 2: spider or this camp of you know, evil wizards, or
- 50:41Speaker 2: then you know, you just jump into this goblin fortress
- 50:44Speaker 2: and you have to. You know, you have fifteen goblins
- 50:47Speaker 2: haming at you and it's impossible to escape.
- 50:51Speaker 3: It's a quarrel in my head control beneath your broomstick.
- 50:57Speaker 3: It is interesting that in this version of Harry Potter,
- 51:01Speaker 3: which I'm not sure this version of Harry Potter is
- 51:03Speaker 3: canonical mainly to do just with the inclusions of the
- 51:05Speaker 3: Gaunts and Salas, are Slytherin's Little broom covered. But I
- 51:12Speaker 3: do think that it's fascinating that they were like, yeah,
- 51:15Speaker 3: in the eighteen nineties, it wasn't just Hogsmead, it was
- 51:18Speaker 3: kind of this whole region of Scotland was magical and
- 51:21Speaker 3: you could kind of just have magic wherever you wanted
- 51:24Speaker 3: to go. And so because of this experiment with spider's
- 51:28Speaker 3: gone wrong, this person who brought them in has been
- 51:30Speaker 3: killed in her basement and now all these spiders are loose,
- 51:33Speaker 3: and because the goblins are in the midst of maybe
- 51:37Speaker 3: causing a revolution, there are allowed to be trolls up here,
- 51:40Speaker 3: and we're gonna have hippogriffs, which are really out of
- 51:43Speaker 3: grease and not supposed to be in the UK flying around.
- 51:47Speaker 3: And even though the acromantula haven't been brought up here,
- 51:50Speaker 3: here's three that you can run into in the game.
- 51:52Speaker 3: And you're just like, what is happening? Why are there's
- 51:56Speaker 3: so many things for me to And we asked Agent
- 51:59Speaker 3: about it, because we had two reactivephobes on the interview
- 52:03Speaker 3: panel as well, including myself, going why were there so
- 52:06Speaker 3: many spiders in this game? And he said it comes
- 52:10Speaker 3: from game theory, which is you need to have button
- 52:13Speaker 3: mashing throughout your game while you travel. You have to
- 52:16Speaker 3: have a reason why somebody would want to hit some
- 52:19Speaker 3: buttons constantly, and they didn't think it was responsible to
- 52:22Speaker 3: have it be humans all the time, because the game
- 52:25Speaker 3: can get pretty gruesome if you're just especially if you
- 52:27Speaker 3: choose to learn about a cadavra, you could just go
- 52:30Speaker 3: around and kill people all the time. And so they
- 52:35Speaker 3: were like, well, spiders are you know, a pretty interesting thing,
- 52:38Speaker 3: and so they put that in, not realizing that a
- 52:42Speaker 3: grand amount of Harry Potter fans do not like spiders,
- 52:45Speaker 3: like Ron Weasley, and that they were eventually going to
- 52:47Speaker 3: have to put in a modification for a rectifhobe mode.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really a thing.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Yeah you can, so you can go into the settings
- 52:56Speaker 3: and toggle it and it turns into yeah, it turns
- 53:00Speaker 3: into what Ron Weasley in the movies turns the acromnsula into.
- 53:05Speaker 3: So it gives them like roller blades, and they have
- 53:07Speaker 3: like an invisible outline, but you don't actually have to
- 53:10Speaker 3: see like the eyes and fangs and everything. And this
- 53:13Speaker 3: is this is one of the reasons why Irvin on
- 53:16Speaker 3: Three Broomsticks, the founder of that podcast, he wouldn't play
- 53:19Speaker 3: the game. As soon as they got to spiders. He
- 53:21Speaker 3: was done he could not handle it, and then they
- 53:23Speaker 3: turned I showed him how to do aractive poot mode.
- 53:25Speaker 3: He went, great, I can finally play this game now.
- 53:28Speaker 3: And interestingly, from a video game standpoint from the industry,
- 53:32Speaker 3: there was another game that did it that year as well.
- 53:34Speaker 3: There was a sequel to a Star Wars video game
- 53:36Speaker 3: called Jedi Survivor, where one of the main planets that
- 53:40Speaker 3: you have to be on had spider looking aliens and
- 53:44Speaker 3: you could now go in and toggle a ractophobe mode.
- 53:47Speaker 3: And we asked Asian about that too, like, did you
- 53:49Speaker 3: guys work together to figure out, Oh, my gosh, we've
- 53:51Speaker 3: got too many spiders things? And he said, no is
- 53:53Speaker 3: but it is in the industry picking up on something.
- 53:56Speaker 3: So there was just a lot of complaints, right, And
- 53:59Speaker 3: this is the cool part of social media is that
- 54:01Speaker 3: you do get voices putting genuine complaints out there and
- 54:05Speaker 3: people being able to respond to them. And so those two,
- 54:08Speaker 3: for the first time ever had a rachnophobe modes.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Wow, hmmm, huh, yeah, pretty awesome. Yeah. I also go
- 54:20Speaker 2: back to like you always feeling like in danger because
- 54:24Speaker 2: it's like I'm supposed to be like in this world
- 54:26Speaker 2: that you know, I'm somehow protected, you know, and i
- 54:31Speaker 2: feel like I'm in this safe world, and I'm like, yeah,
- 54:35Speaker 2: Harry definitely didn't go through all of this when he
- 54:37Speaker 2: was in his years at Hogwarts and having you know,
- 54:40Speaker 2: like multiple camp sides of people wanting to kill him
- 54:43Speaker 2: and spiders everywhere and trolls on the loose, and it's
- 54:49Speaker 2: like it feels like a dangerous time period at least,
- 54:54Speaker 2: you know, to be a student.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Maybe this is why they say no safer place than Hogwarts,
- 54:58Speaker 3: because in his game, that's fairly true. There is no
- 55:01Speaker 3: safer place than when you're in the castle. As soon
- 55:03Speaker 3: as you get outside the castle grounds, I'm in fatal terror.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So moving a little bit into the characters, because
- 55:16Speaker 2: this is one of the most interesting parts of the game.
- 55:21Speaker 2: So you have a central ally who is Professor Eliazar
- 55:25Speaker 2: Figg I hope I'm saying it right. Who is your
- 55:29Speaker 2: mentor and narrative anchor. So he's also the magical theory
- 55:33Speaker 2: teacher at Howkwarts and he and his wife, Miriam's lives
- 55:37Speaker 2: were entangled with the search of ancient magic before she
- 55:41Speaker 2: passed away. And when Miriam was killed, you're in one
- 55:45Speaker 2: of her travels he felt guilt ridden and responsible because
- 55:48Speaker 2: he was not there to save her, and resolved to
- 55:51Speaker 2: both uncover how and why she died, as well as
- 55:54Speaker 2: finishing her work. So this is probably the most you're
- 56:01Speaker 2: probably the most important character you're tied to during the game.
- 56:06Speaker 2: He's like you're i'd say, like you're Dumbledore somehow. And yeah,
- 56:13Speaker 2: he's always the one who's kind of like, I feel
- 56:15Speaker 2: like he's the one who progresses the story forward. Whenever
- 56:18Speaker 2: you go to him, it's like, this is how the
- 56:20Speaker 2: story is going to progress, because otherwise you can just
- 56:23Speaker 2: be on side quest all the time. Yeah, and not
- 56:26Speaker 2: like move and so yeah, I feel like this is
- 56:29Speaker 2: a very very central character to the plot. And yeah,
- 56:33Speaker 2: you're gonna have to play the game to see how
- 56:36Speaker 2: it ends, but yeah, and then we have other Howard staff,
- 56:42Speaker 2: which includes characters like Matilda Weasley. She's the one who
- 56:46Speaker 2: escorts you to your common room. So whether you're in
- 56:50Speaker 2: gryffindor Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, she's the one who's going
- 56:54Speaker 2: to escort you and just skill view this kind of
- 56:57Speaker 2: like warm welcome. And you also have head Master Phineas
- 57:02Speaker 2: Nigerleiu's Black who is not quite the hat Master you
- 57:08Speaker 2: would imagine after having being used to Dumbledore.
- 57:14Speaker 3: But he's very much in line with the Headmaster that
- 57:16Speaker 3: you meet in his portrait. The fact that he starts
- 57:19Speaker 3: off by canceling Quidditch for the whole season a we they,
- 57:23Speaker 3: Adrian said, when we asked him about why did did
- 57:25Speaker 3: you cancel Quidditch because this quidditch video game was coming out,
- 57:28Speaker 3: he said, no, we canceled it because we just didn't
- 57:31Speaker 3: have room for it. Oh and so that that was
- 57:35Speaker 3: like they didn't have the ability to also give you
- 57:39Speaker 3: a quidditch experience in this game. So you still get
- 57:42Speaker 3: to fly around in your broomstick quite a bit. And
- 57:43Speaker 3: I guess you could pretend you can fly out to
- 57:45Speaker 3: the field and pretend like you're holding a kwafflin go
- 57:48Speaker 3: from end to end as if you're a solo quidditch player.
- 57:50Speaker 3: But it is a I think it's, you know, very
- 57:53Speaker 3: they found a great way in line to get rid
- 57:55Speaker 3: of something that they couldn't do for a game purpose,
- 57:58Speaker 3: as well as you get to meet this terrible Headmaster
- 58:03Speaker 3: and find little tidbits about him throughout the way. You know,
- 58:06Speaker 3: if you sneak into the Headmaster's office, You're gonna find
- 58:09Speaker 3: a little letter about his terrible relationship with his wife.
- 58:12Speaker 1: It's it's great and it all makes perfect sense for him.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, Yeah, And I you know, I think targetting
- 58:20Speaker 2: back to the whole you know, plot line, how you know,
- 58:24Speaker 2: do you feel how much creative freedom did they actually
- 58:30Speaker 2: have to develop these stories and how much of approval
- 58:33Speaker 2: they need from the author, because you know, I don't
- 58:37Speaker 2: know when it comes to these games that are so
- 58:40Speaker 2: independent and that have their own identity, how much is
- 58:45Speaker 2: part of their creative input. How much is it background
- 58:48Speaker 2: information that they might have from the archives from JK. Rowling,
- 58:52Speaker 2: or how much is it Like you know, it's very
- 58:54Speaker 2: interesting to see that because we see a lot of
- 58:56Speaker 2: these games have their own stories and their own or
- 59:00Speaker 2: overarcing story. So yeah, I'm just really curious about to
- 59:04Speaker 2: see like how much of it is.
- 59:05Speaker 3: Like my best understanding is that Rolling had very little
- 59:08Speaker 3: to do with this game period, and that poor Key Games,
- 59:11Speaker 3: which was working with them, right, they sort of are
- 59:13Speaker 3: the overseers of canon and overseers of what makes sense
- 59:18Speaker 3: for the world of what doesn't make sense for the world.
- 59:19Speaker 3: So that's why everything in this world sort of makes
- 59:23Speaker 3: like they're pretty tight about Like, if you wanted to
- 59:25Speaker 3: make this game canon, with some exceptions, in my head
- 59:28Speaker 3: you could, you could consider this canonical. It doesn't mess
- 59:31Speaker 3: with anybody's storylines. All the spells seem very realistic, the
- 59:38Speaker 3: the characters that you're mailing into right, Like, it's not
- 59:41Speaker 3: Ron's exact lineage for Matilda Weasley, it's like an aunt
- 59:45Speaker 3: or a cousin or something of that nature. So I
- 59:48Speaker 3: think rolling had very little to do with this. They do.
- 59:52Speaker 3: And but Adrian Wright was a huge Harry Potter fan
- 59:56Speaker 3: and knew the world back to front, and so he
- 59:57Speaker 3: said when they pitched this game, they had done everything
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: to make it as tight as possible, and that was
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: one of the reasons why they were chosen, was because
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: it was already so tightly fixed to what canon was, right,
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: And so that's my best understanding of Like how independent
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: were they allowed to be? I think they were allowed
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: to be fairly independent, but they had done the research
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: to make sure that they could do that, right.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's trust is because of what they
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: had already presented.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: YEA, yeah, yeah, best case scenario indeed, I really think.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: So you get creative freedom, but you've already limited yourself,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: rather than somebody going, now, you can't do this, No
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: you can't do this, No you can't do this.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: So it seems a little bit like Jack Thorne's Cursed
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Child where they went and got they went and had
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: an interview with Rolling personally where she gave approval on
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: several things, and then they wrote the play around that.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: So it seems like they were they sort of were
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: given thumbs up at the beginning to make their.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Game, which is which is great because like I think about, well,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: going off topic, but I think about this TV show
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: that I watched with Cobra Kai, which is kind of
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: like the sequel to Karate Kid Karate Kid, and they
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: were actually fans of the original trilogy. So it's like
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: they were able to bring even though it wasn't by
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: the same writer that created these these first films, they
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: were able to do something that was, you know, really
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: really top notch quality, and it was it feels one
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: hundred percent canon. So many times, the fans are the
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: best hands you can leave these stories too, honestly, because
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: they really care about the story. They care about what's canon,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: what's not canon, what's possible, what is like, you know,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: what is this character's intentions? Would they do this? Would
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: they not do this? When you know something inside out
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: and you have been so invested in it, I think
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: it's the only the best thing can come out of that.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Most of the times are so yeah, And.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I think it shows like when you are truly a
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: fan of something and you create something to go with it,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: it's obvious, and it's obvious that with this game there
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: were people involved who really knew the world rather than
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: just going for it, you know, as a cash grab
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: and like yeah, so it makes a big difference.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Well, and I think it's interesting too because it does
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: work a little bit into like something like Hogwarts Mystery.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: So the elements in Hogwarts Mystery around the Architect, where
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: the architect is the holder of this ancient magic, and
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: then you get to see some of the some of
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: the settings that they include in Hogwarts Mystery which were
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: unique make their way into Hogwarts legacy like that. So
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: there there clearly is some maybe you consider it a
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: separate canon like some people like there's movie canon, there's
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: book canon, and now there's video game canon. So perhaps
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: if you're thinking that way, it's definitely canonical inside the
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: video game canon, because you know there's all of this
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: stuff around. Your little avatar in Hogwarts Mystery knows a
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: little bit about the architect, and now your avatar in
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: Hogwarts Legacy knows a lot about the architect.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: So I think I didn't that.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, cool. I only know that because I got
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: to year five of Hogwarts Mystery. Uh, and then my
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: game completely crashed and I have never been able to
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: reopen it, which is the sad part for me. I
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: know I did.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Here's my patience.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: Yeah, the energy, the the eight hour wait that they
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: hit you with two moves into the game. Yes, yeah, ridiculous.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was. It was. It was really bad
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: in that. In that regard, I think there was this
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: what was it? Was it a that you were stuck
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: in this like Devil Snare Devil Snare that I think
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: I was stuck there like for a week, like I
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: didn't even I.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Gotta tell you, Yeah, at Double Snare for eight hours
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: you were dead past past five minutes. You're oh, I'm
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: stuck your for eight hours? No no, no, you're dead. Six
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: minutes you're dead, an hour, you're dead. It doesn't matter,
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: Like I'm stuck there forever I'm done. Yeah, and that's
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: the way a bunch of game players stop playing the game.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm still surprised. It's been going on
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: for so many years, and there seems to be a
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: very it seems to have formed it so niche of fans,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: and it's pretty strong, like it's going it's still going strong,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: I'd say.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: I'd say that's because they do. Phone video games have
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: this what I feel is almost unethical. It's this addictive
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: gamer quality to it, where they go for these prizes
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: constantly that are you are either putting in maximum amount
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: of effort so you are setting a time or to
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: remind yourself that in three hours this is done, or
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: you're paying attention to your phone so much. And they're
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: really hooking, especially kids whose prefrontal cortexes aren't stop developing,
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: so they're still in lizard brain mode where they're like, ooh, color,
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: that seems fun. And if you're allowed to play these
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: games constantly, then you're getting hooked. And then if, especially
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: if you're allowed an unlimited amount of funds by parents
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: or your parents don't know that you're paying for stuff,
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: then you able to get all of these loot drops
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: because they're constantly doing loot drops in order to make
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: as much money. So that game, from my understanding, makes
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: a ton of money because they're like, oh my gosh,
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: I get a new pet and this time it's got
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: like a rainbow pattern. But that's only unique if I
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: do the maximum amount of this, or I can get
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: this new outfit and everything like that. So it's a
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: really cool game. And also they're doing this phone behavior
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: that is like based on literal Gambler's addiction dopamine effects.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: So not my favorite thing in the planet, one of
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: the reasons why I kind of don't go back to
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: play it, but it is it still comes with some
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: neat information and it's, yeah, as you said, a fairly
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: strong game for a consumer base.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely. So okay, going get a little bit
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: back into the characters. So do you have companion quest lines,
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: which of course are a big pillar in this game,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: and you know, you have very prominent students, so I
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: was to call them that way. So you have Sebastian Sallow,
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: who is a brilliant and driven Slytherin who pulls you
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: into high stakes tory line involving forbidden magic and a
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: desperate attempt to save a particular member of his family,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: I'd say, and he Yeah, he takes you on some
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: kind of like feels like a little illegal quest or
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: at least against the rules, and right off the bat,
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: and he kind of like sees your potential early on,
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: and you know, yeah.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: He's something.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Yeah, dedicated, one might say. Yeah, Yeah, dedicated for sure, immoral,
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: unethical possibly possibly Yeah, and also the only completely finished
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: game story for a side character Sebastians. Well, I'll talk
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: a little bit more about Poppy and Natty in a second,
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: but it is the I think he's the best side
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: character because they were able to do literally everything that
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: they wanted with him.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: M then have Ominous Gaunt, who is Sebastian's close friend. Yeah,
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: he's kind of like seft, smoking and wary of the
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: dark arts, so he often serves as the moral kind
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: of like counterweight in that storyline. Yeah, he's a bit,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: i'd say, a less prominent character than probably others, but
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: he's there, same as uh Poppy Sweeting Hope, I'm saying
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: the name right, Sweeting, And she's a kind fearless hufflepuff
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: with a deep bond to magical beasts. So here we
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: have a little not too mute uh, focused on protecting
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: them from poachers and exploitation. She's a really cute character
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: and she's.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Got an interesting twist to her story too that you
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: find out pretty late on, which is is kind of cool.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Didn't see it coming, so yeah, mm hmm.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Next up, we have that si on I. She's a
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: bold transfer Gryffindor student who's adjusting to a new school
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: and culture, and she pushes you into confronting threats in
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: the Highlands, driven by a strong sense of right and
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: wrong Verry Gryffindor and I love her. She I chose
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: her to be, Yeah, I chose her to be my
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: companion to go on my first trip to hogs meat
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: over Sebastian. Sebastian had his appeal, but I was like, no,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: I have to go with my girl. Like she's a
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: Gryffindor too, Like I have to just kind of like
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: tag along. And she feels like homb somehow. She feels
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: very much you know, like you. You'd hit it off
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: right off the bat with her and she'd be my friend.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Sure, And this was kind of a cool way to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: give a nod to the other Wizarding Schools as well
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: because Waga Do. Yeah, she transferred from Waggadoo, which is
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: kind of cool, and you get like little tidbits of
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: info from her about Waggadoo.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I love that that you can ask those class find
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: questions and be like, oh, tell me more about it,
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: and tell me and what's this and what's that? And
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: she gives you this ton of information. Yeah, that you
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: can choose to know or not know. But that's what
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: I love about this game. A lot of the aspects
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: of it. It's all you know at free will, like
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: you are going to know as much as you want
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: to like, as much as you're willing to take in.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: And obviously we're all very curious to know more about this,
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: so we would keep asking these characters more and more questions.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: And yeah, she she she is a great character. For sure.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: There are some there are some amazing video game companies
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: all around the planet. And so this conversation about Waggay
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: made me go, Okay, can we get like a Ugandan
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: or a South African team to do a Hogwarts legacy
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: like style? But at Waggay, can we do an American
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: video game company like Avalanche to do Ilver Morning or
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: a Japanese video game company. Maybe that's not Nintendo to
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: do h the I can't remember the name of the
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: school in Japan mah oh maha, yes or something with
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: an M correct. But I just now I'm like, oh
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: my gosh, I want like all of the different things.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: I want to be able to have cherry blossom robes
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: from Japan that my character walks around in that like
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: looks as if they're falling the whole time, because they
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: can do all of this amazing stuff. Right, there's just
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: such rich culture and there's such you know, if you
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: give it to a company that's from that area, you
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: can then really get into this steeped in great cultural
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: experience about what their magic systems would be like, where
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: we don't have some of the complaints that we did
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: when Rolling released her story about Ilver Morning, where people
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: were like, hey, you talk about Native American magic, but
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: like some Native American cultures still actually like work on
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: this and believe in this. And so if you can
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: hand it off to a different area or at least
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: have cultural touchpoints with those people and get a lot
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: of people from that area in Japan and Uganda, and
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: you know where the other ones are awesome to do that.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: Can Ubisoft, the French company that does Assassin's Creed, do
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: a bo baton one. Oh my gosh, give me, give
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: me Assassin's Creed Wizarding World. I want to go around
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: killing people from rafters.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: This podcast is all about pitching ideas, so we're always
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: say hey, Warner Brothers, if you're listening to us, drop
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: this down, because we got some good ideas going on. Yes,
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: this is actually really good and I would love to
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: have that even in Howard's Legacy, you know, moving into
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Howard's Legacy two. It would be great to have the opportunity,
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: just like you have like in Pokemon, to visit different regions,
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: like or not different regions, but different islands. Like having
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: the opportunity, not necessarily to visit the whole scope of
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: the world of you know, the Botons or whatever other
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: you know, Ilver Morny, but maybe visit the schools themselves
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: and have like this port key that transfers to you
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: into a school and have like expansion packs, and that could.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: Just wish so bad that they hadn't said in Goblet
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: of Fire how long ago the last try as the
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: tournament was because I think if in a Hogwarts legacy too.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: They would have done a derm strength Bobaton where it's
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: set at a different school and you can like travel
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: back and forth between Hogwarts and maybe just the school itself.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: So probably Bobaton, given that derm strengths grounds are bigger
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: than even these, as Victor Crumb puts. But I think
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: that would have been absolutely wonderful. And in addition to that,
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: you know, Universal Parks Is they just released their epic
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: Universe which has France in it, where you can walk
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: around Paris going sorry for all the French people that
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: are now offended by my pronunciation of your country's Yeah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: thank you, I appreciate. I took French for four years.
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: It's good, right I almost. Anyways, anyway, beyond moving beyond that,
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: they are they put in Paris, and there's been a
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: lot of layman fans going why why Paris? And I'm like, well, listen,
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: in England, you've got Hogsmeade and you've got Diagonaley, Like,
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: what are they gonna do do the do you just
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: enter the Three Broomsticks? Like they needed a different location,
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: the only other real location that we've spent a lot
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: of time in that they wanted to make into a
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: park with Paris and then but they're like, but you
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: poor key just back to London. I was like, I know,
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: I know, I know, I get it. So it'd be
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: cool if they could make us go to other locations
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: that you could then build further theme parks on mm
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: hmmmm hmm.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Yeah. And they have like the students roaming around Epic Universe,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: so yeah, it already kind of starts to build that
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: curiosity of these different students from different schools.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: So all the all the movie fans are going, are
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: there male Bobaton students?
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: What are you talking about? I thought we were just
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: supposed to see kind of short skirted Bobaton women where
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: the camera pans just on their butts. Is that not
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: what we do?
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: There are no wizards in France. Magic only goes to
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the women.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: What are you doing a fi ful spin off? There
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: on no men in France right now and the streets
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: are filled with short skirts. Don't see us? Yeah, that.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Would be that would be That would be amazing honestly
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: to have that like expansion. Uh is there something that
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: this universe has? Is that ability? This this capability of
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: you know, endless possibilities of different stories and universes and
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: it's just, yeah, it's so rich and that's why we
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: love it so much as well, like it's it's great.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: And hopefully we get a little bit more of that
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: expansion nest to the world in future, like you know,
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: in the future games and stuff. So yeah, we'll have
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: to see, but yeah, definitely hope.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: I hope it's inevitable. I hope we get a Japanese
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: anime about the Wizarding World that's set in Japan or anywhere.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: I mean, Japanese anime are set all over the place,
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: so I hope there's just lots of different stuff where
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: they go out. It's one of the cool things that
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Star Wars has done with their like little shorts. They
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: give like animation studios the ability to create an episode
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: and all sorts of stuff like that. So I'd love
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: to see the Wizarding World sort of outsource a little bit,
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: which seems to be more and more popular with you know,
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: there's not as much suing going on when fan art
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: comes out, there's an allowance of like culture to build
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: amongst the fans, and I hope that they draw on
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: the vast resources of an incredible, you know, world filled
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: with a lot of creativity in order to give us
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: that ability to go to Wagadoo, to the Japanese school,
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: to Ilver Morning, to Bobaton two term Strength, to all
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: the other places that rolling is mentioned.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely so if you're listening Warner Brothers
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Splash Avalanche.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: I'm a certified video game writer, and I wrote a
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: whole thing about how to adapt Blade Runner into a
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: video game. I wrote a literal video game. Sign me up.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: That's that's the way this works, right, you get you
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: get jobs by just pleading on podcasts.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, So okay, so continue with our characters. So
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: we also have Gareth Weasley. So he's mischievous, you know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: I had to mention it's suitable for him to be
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: a Weasley Gryffindor classmate with a big chaotic inventor energy.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: And he's obsessed with experimenting in potions and constantly ropes
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: you into kind of like questionable but fun brewing experiments.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: So you can say he's bold too, definitely. And he's
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: just got this energy to him that I really like too.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: He's like the precursor of the Weasley's Wizard Weezss experiments.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Absolutely yeah, and also like and you could you could
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: justify the fact that he exists in canon and isn't
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: at the Weasley wedding because he probably died in a
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: potions experiment.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: Yeah, And then we have Okay, obviously we are not
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: going to get too deep into these if you know,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: you guys want to add to this well, but just
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: not to give away too much spoilers, but we have
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: the main antagonists which are rand Rock, which is a
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Goblin rebellion leader, and Victor Rockwood, who's a dark wizard
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: leader Roo Rookwood Brookwood, Yes, Rookwood.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: As in the ancestor of one of the death Eaters.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Right, yes, yes, yes, right, yes.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: So I find go ahead, I'm so sorry.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: No no, no, go ahead, go ahead.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: So what I find interesting about all of these characters
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: with with Rain Rock and Victor Rookwood is we have
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: very little interaction with goblins until we get to Harry
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: Potter and the Deathly Halla's when we get a little
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: bit of insight into grip Hook. And so they really
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: rely on the sort of stereotypes of goblins in the
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: wizarding world in order to create this and Adrian Rob
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: said that he was always been defined by George Lucas's
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: words because he used to work on Star Wars video
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: games and Disney video games before or he worked on Avalanche,
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: and George Lucas said, to his credit or to his discredit,
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: lean into stereotypes. They're there for a reason, which personally,
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: I'm like, no, we should be combating stereotypes. But to
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: each their own, and so they I think this is
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: one of the reasons why you feel this like sort
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: of selfish, self imposed I deserve and want this from
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: rang Rock. In addition to that, I think they do
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: a fairly brilliant thing by giving Victor Rookwood those qualities
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: as well showing how the Rookwood family and ultimately turns
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: into wisiting Nazis under Baltimore. At the same time, not
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: to do too many spoilers, but in some of these
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: flashbacks that you have, there is another Rookwood. And one
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: of my biggest complaints about this game is that they
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: never go are these related or are they doing people
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: like this guy feels like a good guy and this
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: guy's a bad guy, and who's going on?
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: What?
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Where? When?
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: How?
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Who? Uh? So that's that's a pretty funny experience there
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: in the video. It was like, Oh, this guy must
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: be a bad guy. But is he I'm confused.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, these two they seem like characters you don't
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: want to meddle with, you know, they don't you know,
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: you want to get in their way. Right from the beginning,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: you can tell that they are very powerful and very
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: dangerous you know beings, and and yeah, it's uh, it's
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: a very it's also very dark, I'd say a very
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: dark story too. It's definitely not Sorcerer's Stone type of
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: you know, you know PG story. It's it's kind of
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: like cater to and which also I think ties in
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: with this whole part of you being already fifteen. Yeah,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: because you're going to go, You're going to undergo on
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: all these quests and these you know, dangerous tasks, and
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: just the story itself that you know, an eleven year
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: old would be a little too much to put on,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: you know, someone so young. So maybe that's why they
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: kind of like, Okay, let's make him, you know, a
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: full on teenager a little bit more like, yeah, aware
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: of the world around him, and.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: That's that's all, you know, extremely purposeful, right, is there
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: signaling to parents. This is for a little bit of
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: an older audience. It's signaling to like fifteen sixteen, and
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: a lot of cultures is when you become a man
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: or a woman or an adult in some way, shape
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: or form, and so we're all at an age that's
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: a lot more comfortable. So if you choose to learn
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: about a cadavra and then you kill people with it,
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: you're like, Okay, this isn't as bad as like a
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: literal eleven year old in like an elementary school, middle
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: school body running around being like about a cadavra, Like,
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: oh my god, why, I mean, Harry does it? He
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: literally murders Quarrel in the movie where he's like, oh,
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: I'll touch your face. Hunger Games indeed, right, Hunger Games
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: versus Harry Potter. Yeah, But I think it's cool too
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: that they build in the morality system. Right, You've got
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Sebastian Sallow's Whole Deal, which is essentially an ethics class.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: Should I or should I not? It makes you ask
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: those questions and if so, if you are a parent
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: that's playing with your child, you're able to talk through
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: those decisions, which I really love. And there's built in
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: you know, warnings in the game. Ominous Gaunt is there
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: from a storytelling perspective to warn against British like, uh,
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: the British like upper class. We've got the Gaunts who
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: have been inbreeding for years and years and years, and
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: that's why Ominus is blind. That's why he's dealing with
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: the difficulties that he's dealing with. Additionally, you've got Nattie
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: not Say and I giving you different morality lessons in
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: good and and wrong, and then you've got like, but
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: it's okay to have fun and play around and be
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: wrong sometime with Gareth Weasley. So they did a nice
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: job balance.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Like yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, definitely. It's it's and it's
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: this kind of like very much. Also, this like coles
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: colethora of personalities and moral compasses that are kind of like,
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: you know, really really is about writing your story and
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: just gives you a wide array of like, Okay, who
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: do you want to you know, who do you want
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: to mingle with? Who do you want to follow? And
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: how far are you willing to go into that? And
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: that's something that's great about the game itself. It's you know,
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: you don't go into this linear thing where you know,
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: all all ends do meet, but in different ways. I'd say,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: and it's it's great. It's I think it's great. And
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: all these characters have their own quality and their own
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: little like, you know, parts of it, and I think
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: a little bit of it is in all of us.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: You know, we all have that little bit of Sebastian,
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: and we all have a little bit of Ominous and
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Poppy and and Natty. Yeah, it's it's just, uh, it's great.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: I really think they are, you know, they are. They
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: they were very well thought characters. It was a lot
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: of dedication put into designing them.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: It is interesting to so from from these side characters perspective,
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: you were supposed to get in this game, one really
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: main storyline for each of the four houses. So we
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: get Sebastian's really fleshed out story in Slytherin. Yeah, in
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: Poppies you get a very fleshed out story. But she's
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: not as much your companion in the game like Natty
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: and Sebastian, So that's her story is a little bit
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: complete on that end for you know, budget reasons, gaming reasons,
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: et cetera. But you do get what's what was Adrian's
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: favorite story which is the Golden snidget at the end,
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: should you be able to play through the whole thing,
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: that's a good one you get. And then the raven
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: Claw one, it gets completely laughed out. You get him
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: as a Raven Claws side companion if you you know,
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: if you're playing the raven Claw storyline, it just happens
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: later in the game. He's the guy that gives you
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: the I forget his name. He's the one that gives you,
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: like the star maps to go and find with the telescope.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so that character there, he was supposed to
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: be much bigger. They just didn't have the room for him.
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: And then you get to not say on I Natty
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: as they call her, and that one is to me
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: my biggest like, oh, I really wish this had happened,
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: but they just didn't have the budget at the time
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: to do it. Because that one, as Adrian told us,
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: was supposed to turn into an animegus storyline where you
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: learn to become an animegus. But the reason why they
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: decided not to go with that is that they wanted
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: to be able to do custom once. But then suddenly
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: your digital files you have to have one for every
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: animal that you're doing. So they thought about doing like, okay,
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: maybe you're just like a cat, a bird, or a dog,
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: and you get to choose between that and maybe do
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: some coloration. But then it was like, but it's also
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: supposed to match up with your patronis and so are
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: we going to do a whole patronis line? Are we
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: going to keep the same character for Hogwarts? Now that
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Adrian didn't say this part, but in my head, I'm like,
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: they're definitely doing a Hogwarts legacy to you based off
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: of sales. Are we going to be doing the same avatar?
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: Do you really want to make your Patroni's choice and
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: your animegus choice right now? Because I gotta tell you
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: I want to be a blue whale because your patronas
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: you could literally just sit inside it and no dementors
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: could hit you. That would be awesome, But then my
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: animegus would be totally useless on land unless I just
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: wanted to crush everything in sight.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: So you can dive into the lake and you're started
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: territory so.
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: Well for for about five minutes before the salt level
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: lack of salt level in the lake starts to rot.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Your flesh. But yeah, come at me about marine mammal facts.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: My wife is a marine biologist.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Maybe like a river dolphin or something.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: Would that be cool, river otter? Anything, that'd be sweet
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: that you could take one more more people should be
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: animegas so that they can enjoy go and enjoy the grounds.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Yes, So moving a little bit into the gameplay identity
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: of the game. So obviously, like we mentioned, this is
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: third person action RPG, so you know, it has your
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: character creator. You can personalize it and customize it to
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: look as similar as you want to or it's different.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: You can just you know, go with your with your
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: gut and uh. Then you also have obviously how sorting, uh, spell,
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: load outs, talents, gear upgrades, and lots and lots of
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: things to discover. Obviously there's a lot of chests that
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: have like you know, either yeah gear and you get
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: also like cool, what else you get with the chests
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: because there are a few of those, So you.
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: Get your gears, you can get gosh, what what else
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: is it? Wait? Is it just gear?
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: I feel like it's money. Money. Money can get you
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: get money which is sometimes hard to come across, and
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: you need to well, yeah, you need to go and
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: and you know, deal with a lot of these these
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: dark wizards in order to get some money. When you're
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: in their campsites and you know, you just have their
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: little bags of money and you're like, oh money, here
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: we go.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: Because I want to go to glad Rad's and get
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: my new fit all the time.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And like we said, you get sorted into one
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: of the Hogwarts houses and that determines which common room
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: you'll have access to.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: So yeah, and I found a video that shows all
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: four common rooms, because obviously, you know, if you only
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: play as one house, you don't get to see the others.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: So I will link that in the show notes if
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: you're curious.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: And let's be clear, Gryffindors is probably the most boring
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: because they put a lot of heart and soul into
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: doing the other three. Yes, because they get we spend
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: so much time in the gryffindal common room. Not saying
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: that the Gryffindor common room isn't nice. It is, But
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: in the Slytherin common room you get to look out
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: at the lake and occasionally you get the giant squid
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: thrashing its tentacles against the window. You get to live
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: in your best version of hobbitan if you're in Hufflepuff
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: and there's so much food all over the place in there,
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: and you get to meet the fat Friar, which is great.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: But also they give raven Claw the best feature, which
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: is its own exit into flying away from your common
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: room if you want, so you can go up this
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: little section, go out onto the roof, and then just
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: take off and fly around if you want, and you
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: can land there. It's raven Claus to me, is the
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: best one from both a design standpoint. I thought that
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: made it look really good, very classically Greek, inspired by
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: the white and blue flavorings, and like raven Claus sort
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: of being of Athena's deal makes a lot of sense
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: to me, even though Minerva is the one that's kind
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: of named after is the Roman god version of Athena.
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: But uh, all that being said, that the fact that
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: they gave you a literal like transport out and so
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: I hope in its legacy two you get like to
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: swim underwater and we get to go out of the
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: Slytherin common room, which would be super cool.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Oh so cool. Yeah, definitely, And I love the fact
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: that for the common houses for the common for the
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: common rooms. Sorry, they for example, Ravenclaw is pretty much
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: accurate replica of the illustration that we see in Potter More. Yes,
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: So they really really respected that art and said, let's
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: let's just do something pretty much you know, in those
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: lines and just respect that. And because we didn't know
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: we only had the griffind or common room obviously from
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: the films that we had this that already had this
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: very well established visual identity. But the other houses you
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: never get to explore.
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: So I think you get Chambers suggests second.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and that the other two houses, it's
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: like how do they look? So when we got those
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: first like illustrations from part of Moore, it was like wow,
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: like yes, actually it And I.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: Think you've nailed the main word there that makes this
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: game so successful. It's respect. The respect for the world
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: is just so well thought. Even with the add ons
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: of Hogwarts, even with like creating the King's cross area,
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: the library of what they do, it's all a little different,
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: and it's also all extremely respectful to this, including Stuart
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: Craig's work, who's this master set designer that is known
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: as one of the best set people of all time,
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: and they use the inspiration from him, they respect his
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: work and give you that feel in the video game,
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: which is is just brilliant.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, totally. Even the library that at first glance
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: seems like totally different from the one we saw in
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: the films, then there's on the second floor there's like
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: section that looks identical to them, so it's like this
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: could perfectly fit into that.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: So it's like they don't go off like you know,
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: they don't stray away too far from it, but they
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: kind of like respect.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: Book and it's it's fascinating too. So I have the
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: privilege of studying at Oxford. Over this last summer, I
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: went out and did some English research out there on
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Shakespeare and then contemporary literature. It was really fun. So
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: I got a chance to work in the battle in
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: Library where they film like the hospital wing is in
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: the Bodelein Library. They filmed the restriction section in Sorcerer's
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: Stone in the Boatle in the library, in the oldest
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: section where they have like actual change books, et cetera.
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: But one thing that I noticed just such a Harry
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: Potter nerd. Right, I'm walking around in the rest of
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: the Bodhlin Library going, oh, Hogwarts legacy rest of the
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: library that doesn't look like the restricted section is based
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: off of this section here, like they still went out
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: of their way to go and find things that were
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: you know, oh, this is a little bit of a
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: newer update of the boatle in, so let's use that
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: for the Hogwarts Like it was just brilliant stuff that
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: they've done.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely, And yeah, like we said it, the
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: progression of the game is tied to being a student.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: So obviously you go, you attend classes, you learn spell
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: these these spells or these classes unlock different mechanics in
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: the game. This includes broom fight flight, So you're not
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: going to be able to write a broom from your
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: first day at Hogwarts. You need to progress in the
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: story a little bit. And again, like you also unlock
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: spells and tools that you need. There's one that there's
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: this fish that's on this like wooden bridge, uh in
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: the outskirts of the castle, and you can't put it
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: back into the water unless you learn Dipoulso yeah, so
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: because you need to I think you need to lose.
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: You need to use either wing Guardium, Levosa or Levoso,
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: and then you with dipolso you just like yeah, yeah,
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: and it was like so frustrating, but yeah, you need
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: to like something as small as that, and they put
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: so much thought into, you know, every single detail, and yeah,
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: it's like Okay, you want to do this, then you
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: need to brew this potion and you need to unlock this,
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: and you need to buy these things, and to buy
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: these things you need money. So in order to get
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: that money. So it's kind of like really cool in
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: that regard because it it really fosters that you know,
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: need to progress and not just you know, kind of
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: like anchor there and be like Okay, I'm just gonna
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: go and you know, roam around the you know, the
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: Scottish highlands and get rid of the bad guys. And yeah.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: So that's that's a great thing that I think they
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: introduced into the game.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: They do an awesome job in this video game of
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: if you are a completionist, it actually makes the game
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: better instead of doing like this, Okay, you can be
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: a completionist, but it doesn't necessarily help you in all
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: aspects of the game, like oh me leveling up or
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: learning to do all these spells, are going and getting
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: all the field pages or doing all this stuff actually
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: adds so much into the game experience that I'm having
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: more fun by the end of it instead of like,
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: oh my god, I'm looking for my one thousandth coroku
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: in Legend of Zelda and I finally got it and
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: all they gave me was a statue that looks like poop.
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's like, we well this Obviously this game,
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: with what we talked about, it does provide an open
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: world roaming, so there are a lot of secrets to uncover,
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: there are combat encounters everywhere, collectibles, and of course it's
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: supported heavily by the use of Revellio shout out to
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: us Yeah as a discovery spell. So there's been a
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: ton of memes and videos and everything across the internet
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: about the spell being used extensively.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: God, I will say that is it does get tiresome
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: after a while. Just say it over and over that
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: And now my Demi guys, yeah, yeah, my guys, dear God, what's.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: This are we even introduced to?
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, what's his motivation to be looking for this? Demi? Guys, like,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: I don't remember having Like it's someone when you freath
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: me on that.
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: When you find all of it, you're able to do
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: Aloha Mora's like third level, and it's it's introduced by
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: Gareth Weasley. I think he's the one that teaches you
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: Aloha Mora. If memory serves correctly, it's either him or
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: Sebastian I remember something.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: The caretaker mister.
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: Moon, right, who's introduced to you by one of those
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: two guys. But yeah, and so he hates those demo
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: guys statue whatever reason. So the game purpose is to
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: unlock all the tears of Aloha Mora. But it is
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: like especially because if you're in like there's one in
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: glad Rags, right, which I would go into all the time,
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: And there's if I didn't go in there at night,
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: it would just go mine. Now demo guys like, oh
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: my god, I know, I can't I keep forgetting to
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: come back here at night, My goodness, shut up. Yeah,
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: Like I really wish after the first couple of rebellions
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: it'd be like rebellion is now silent unless you decide
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: to turn it on.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: That in the Stones too, like yeah, yeah, it reminds
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: me of I'm probably the only one who knows this reference,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: but maybe some of some of our listeners do. There
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: was this wonderful series of Nancy Drew computer games.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: Yes, there was.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: Yes, it reminds me of the It's locked, It's locked,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: It's locked, over and over and over. Anytime you clicked
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: on anything, it's like, damn it, it's locked.
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Video game video games have come a long way
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: of just you know, because so many of them were
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: made for such little kids. So like that, those Nanswers
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: Room video games are like designed for ten year olds
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: at best, and so they were like, we have to
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: tell them that it's locked, or they're going to keep
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: trying this door again.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: But then if you try too many times to reach something,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: something really terrible could happen, Like you could fall over
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the balcony of the theater or you know, die by
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: death of Venus fly trap.
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: That's terrifying. Yeah, this is a giant venus fly trap.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. In that one, when Nancy falls into
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: the Venus fly trap, there's like a cutaway of like
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: the feet sticking out of the.
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: Top and no, god why.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Classic.
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: So so basically, okay, so your decisions and who you
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: choose as a companion, So let's say between Sebastian and Natty.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: For some of these quests really help you shape the
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: build up of your story and how the events of
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: the overarching story unfold. And even though the story is linear,
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: you can still go on site quest at will and
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: explore the world. However, like we talked about, certain missions
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: will require you to master specific spells or skills that
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: are unlocked by attending classes or learning different spells and
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: potions too. So so yeah, everything is kind of like intertwined.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: It's kind of like clockwork when you think about it,
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: and it's about putting all these pieces together and just
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: you know, seeing the other end of it, and yeah,
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: I think it's a it's it's great that it's so like, yeah,
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: there's just so much to do as well, like you
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: get easily. It's so easy to get lost in that castle,
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: and it you can tell the amount of hours and
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: months and years that all of this was. You know,
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: like even when you're flying on your broomstick, you're like,
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: how on earth did they put every single tree? I
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: don't know about game design, but I'm like just completely
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: taken about by how detailed it is. And even though
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: it does get like you said, Sam, like it does
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: feel empty at parts, but still like how everything is
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: just like every every stone, every tree, every you know,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: little river, and like it's it's huge, it's and.
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: I should say, I should clarify. It feels empty from
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: like a gameplay perspective at times because the map is
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: so enormous and so that you can you can go
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: for a long walk without you know, something more major
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: than like button mashing villain killing to do. So like
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: all right, I ran into in Fury again, or I
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: ran into a goblin again, or I ran into a
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: spider again. But in terms of the map is enormous,
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: but it does feel a little empty in terms of
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: like you go into a cave, you spend all this
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: time battling in Fury, and then you get another loot drop,
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: but it's just money and costuming again. Yeah, and that's
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: where it starts to feel like, oh, there isn't like
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: a third or fourth thing that you can do. There
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: isn't an auxiliary side mission. They've released basically no DLCs
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: because if you were on the PS five you already
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: had the the awesome Poltergeist side quest. So if you already,
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: if you were if you were a switcher an Xbox,
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: usually that was a DLC that you could add on,
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: but otherwise there's been like no additive qualities, and so
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: that map feels quite empty. I would imagine that Hogwarts
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: Legacy two is going to fill in that map a
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: bit more of more unique stuff because they already now
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: have that built, they can focus on building it up
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: rather than building it out. But in terms of the like,
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: it is so cool that you can walk around the
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: forest and like unlike old video games, like in the
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire video game where
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: you get magicist extremis, it's like when you walk around there,
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: you're like, yeah, that is the same tree as that
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: one over there, and that's that rock was just back there,
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: and like you can see all of this, Like, but
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: when you're walking around the forest, they have so many
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: variations even on the same design tree, so it's like,
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: all right, so that's the same tree trunk, but the
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: design of the branches is super different. The moss is
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: actually growing on a different direction, and it's covering more
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: of the rock. They just had so much more I
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: U The detail, especially with the second half of the
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: map that you open up. Once you open up that
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: passage through way through, like that mine with the trolls
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: and stuff in it. You get like an entirely different,
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: like very almost Isle of Man, Isle of Sky vibe
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: to the You're like almost in the Hebrides basically in
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: that section that the beauty of it is not empty,
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: the physical features of it is not empty, and that's glorious.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: Mm hmmmm hmm. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, and yeah, so speaking
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: of that, and if you enjoy combat, then I think
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: this game is perfect for you because you will encounter
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: dozens of dark wizards scattered across the map, as well
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: as spiders and fury, trolls, wolves, goblins, you name it.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: There's a ton of you for you to kind of
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: like dabble into and just you know, get your wand
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: really get really good at at one waving and casting
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: and it's uh, it's yeah, it's it's it's an in
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: you know, it is an adventure game, but it's heavily
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: i'd say, backed by a lot of combat, yes, sequences
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: as well and uh just levels. And yeah, I think the.
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: Game their main three areas of success are main storylines
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: really appealing. You do have to pay attention to it too,
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: It's not like, oh, I know what's happening or whatever. Like,
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: if you are not paying attention during the cutscenes about Morganock,
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: you're like, what on earth is happening? The combat in
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: game combat super fun, a little unique too, uh, And
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: the combinations of spells as are saying. The fact that
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: I can freeze somebody and then used the findo and
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: that's like an automatic kill essentially, especially on easy mode
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: or medium mode, is like really well thought out. And
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: so you get to learn all these combinations as you
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: go around, and there's enough button matching villains to go
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: and kind of hone your craft with. That's super cool.
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: And then the exploration, right, those are the three main
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: areas of success. You're to move around to see all
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: the sites. I do think it struggles in the emptiness
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: quality of like, all right, there's not really that much loot,
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: and your choices do feel at times like they don't matter.
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: There's one time, really early on in the game, I
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: forget exactly what appensor. It's like, do you want to
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: do this? And you'll be like no, and then you
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: do it anyways because they're like, we actually really need
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: to make you have to do this. So the game
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: isn't quite like BioWare is one of the more famous
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: choice video game companies. They do Star Wars Nights in
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: the Old Republic, they do Dragon Age, they do Mass Effect.
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: And you have choices in your dialogue and the Hogwarts
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: Legacy dialogue, it gives you those three options and you
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: hit it, and it doesn't actually say exactly what you said,
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: which is very much an Adrian rop decision. He's like,
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: I want you to have the vibe of what you're saying,
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: but not exactly, you know, word for words, so that
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: you still have to pay attention to dialogue. All well
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: and good, but there is some dialogue in there where
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: I'm like, that's not the vibe of what I chose.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: I would not have said that if I knew you
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: were going to say that. So they get struggles there
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: the fact that your dialogue actually doesn't make much of
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: a difference on the story, and that your choices also
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: don't make that much of a difference on the story.
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: You gets choose cool, but they still and again this
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: is you know, pressure from you know, video game companies
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: in general. They don't want to pay to build stuff
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: that only a third of your users might get to.
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: And I think that's one of the reasons why the
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: game feels a little empty in that way where you're like, Okay,
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: well this Sebastian Salo's story kind of happens no matter what.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Right, and if you say you shouldn't do.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: This, Yeah, and so there's really no option in the
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: main storyline, which I don't know if they'll if they'll
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: fix that or not, because video game companies really unless
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: they're BioWare or they're well like, yes, this is our
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: modus apparandi, this is why people buy this game. I
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: just don't know that the executives that we're going to
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: want to pay for all right, So I'm in this
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: area and I'm doing this and I'm doing that, but
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: only a third of us are doing that. Like it's
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: a miracle to me that they didn't make you pick
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: gryffindor right and then not build because they did build
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: the four common rooms, which is awesome and hopefully that
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: helps sell people on doing multiple playthrooms. But you never know.
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: So I'm glad we got the four common rooms. I'm
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: a little bummed that we didn't get much of an
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: effect from your choices.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah, So yeah, that's about combat. I think Amy,
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: you have some advice for players.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just gonna say, you know, if if
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: you haven't played it yet or your first time player,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: my advice is to try and level up by exploring
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: and going into some of those like Bandit camps and
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: the spider situations, because it's a lot easier to have
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: your character die when you're in exploring mode and then
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: respond than to be in the middle of a quest
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: and it has to keep backing you up and reloading,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: So the quests are much easier when you hit some
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: of those bigger foes if you've kind of leveled up
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: your combat ahead of time. I figured that out after.
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: A couple of quests.
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and of course if you enjoy exploring, this will
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: be right up your alley as you get to explore
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: not only every corner of the castle, but also go
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: beyond and explore surrounding villages and Hogsmead and yeah, and
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: also of course flue powder is used to fast travel
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: between different sections and the sections of the map and areas.
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: And also of course you have broom flight, which I
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: think is a fan favorite. And yeah, you get to
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: go pretty fast from one place to the to the next,
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: and flue powder is a little triggy sometimes to find
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: those kind of like portals to travel through.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: But yeah, also fly on a hippograph or ride a
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: graph worn which.
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: Is kind of orstral. Super cool. Yeah, I I can't
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: wait for them to do dragons.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: Yeah there was a dragon. Yeah yeah there wasn't the
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: trailer the dragon and the dragon in the cut.
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: Scene, and there's there's like a like a one percent
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: chance that when you're flying around for a dragon to
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: be in the sky with you.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: I have not had that happen.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: Yeah, if you if you fly around enough, you'll you'll
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: eventually run into what the heck?
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Another feature this game has is the Room of Requirement.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: So this is kind of like the cozy management pillar,
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: and the Room of Requirement functions like your customizable base.
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: It's kind of like a little bit more of your
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: like your own I want to call it like somehow
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: like a Hogwarts Sims sort of reality somehow. So you
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: get to yeah, you get to like kind of like
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: tailor it to like your your your taste and and
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: so a big part of the long tail long tail
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: play time comes from optimizing and personalizing the space you
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: have potion stations, planting systems which are important for the game,
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: but it's kind of like a I'd say it's like
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: a shortcut instead of having to go to Potions, instead
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: of having to go to Horology. Do you just have
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: it all in one single hub and loject placement and
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: redesigned as well. And there's also vibariums for magical beasts,
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: so you can tame, care for, and ride creatures. And
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: this includes also fan favorite mounts and it's really cute,
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: like you can pet them and it's a it's a
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: really nice feature. It feels like a clash of different
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: video games suddenly. Yeah, it's a.
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: Lot of fun. You can rename your creatures too, so
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: all of my creatures have very human names.
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: I like, I'm gonna go and feed Paul the puff skin.
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: Now, so they're there. The toads that are the giant
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: purple toads as they're called in the game, So all
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: of my toads are named giant glurpol or giant urpole,
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: a giant urple, a giant flirtpole or it's I you know,
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: it's a great it's a great time just being ridiculous,
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: or I've got instead of Unicorn I've got dose Cobs,
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: which is a really stupid joke about that, or instead
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: of having my phoenix is named hooked on because of
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: hooked on Phoenix rather than hooked on phonics. So you
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: can I as much fun as you would like with
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: the stupid stuff that you can do in that in
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: those bavariums, I when it's also done, the Room of
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: Requirement is I think their coolest feature in the game. Also,
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: you Tom, you now got me fully stuck on the
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: thought of, like, can we make it as SIMS level
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: of customization as possible, because the SIMS is super cool
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: and like you can really customize the heck out of
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: that space, and you are, even though you can very
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: much customize this, you are a little like, you know,
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: locked into the designs that they've already pre done in
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: the game. That being said, that SIMS is it's very
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: much its own media file. So again, if we're talking
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: about physical space, it's probably not gonna happen. But I
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: also one of my biggest gripes with this is the
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: favariums are limited to like only eight beasts or something
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: like that, and so you can have your you know,
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: pigmy puffs mate and make different combinations. And so my
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: biggest gripe is that you they should have made enough
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: spaces for you to have all the different combinations of
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: baby and adults, and instead you can only get like
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: I think it's a quarter of them period. And so
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: I always am like completionist, Sam can't do what I want.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: We need just a full game of just the beasts
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: in the Bavarians.
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: Yeah, animal crossing meats Room or Requirement would be fantastic.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: There's another idea. Yeah, hey, I always wanted the Sims
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: Harry Potter expansion pack. It never came, so.
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: I know, and they gave this. They gave you the
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: stupid like costume. You could dress this Harry, but you
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: can never build Hogwarts.
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not the same.
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: It's kind of like missed opportunity.
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Oh well, so in order to actually customize your Room
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: of Requirement, you do need to complete different side quests
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: to get like rewarded different conjurations, which is furniture, beast items,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: that sort of stuff. You can also purchase different ones
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: in Hogsmead, and in order to conjure those, you do
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: need moonstone, which can be collected throughout the map as well.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: And I just wanted to know and hear about the
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: soundtrack for this game as well, because I think that
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: that really does build up this world too. Because this
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: game has its own original soundtrack. It was composed by
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: lead composer Chuck E. Myers and two supporting composers, Peter
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: Murray and Jay Scott Cozy Rakousi. But yeah, you can
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: tell the sound was very inspired by the existing soundtracks
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: of the Wizarding World, so it does sound familiar, but
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: it's also brand new. I did find an interesting interview
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: with Peter Murray where he explains the idea behind one
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: of the more popular tracks, the Hogsmead music, and he
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: says they really wanted something to reflect this collection of
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: Wizarding people living together in this tight community with a
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: lot of life and whimsy and like all of that
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: going on. So it has this very street bear sort
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: of vibe. And they even thought about the fact that
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: like as you're approaching Hogsmeade, you start to hear that
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: music in the background, like as if you are actually
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: approaching live street performers, and kind of hearing that is
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: like this party vibe, and then as you get closer
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: the music comes up in volume.
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: It's really it's really cool. How good of a job
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: if they do reflecting all the different composers on the
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: Harry Potter film. So, yes, there are Williams elements, but
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: it's not a Williams heavy game, which I think actually
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: is fairly good because Williams music is epic and large,
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: not every moment of a video game is going to
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: feel like that. So the Cedric's Death Band as I
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: call them, comes comes into play with that live music sound,
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: with the tubas and the trum bones and the sort
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: of you know, boisterousness of it. But you also get
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: Alexander Desplatz sort of like deathly hollows, like medium vibes,
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: just like long notes with lots of harmonies resting in
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: the background, and that really I think hits hard in
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: the opening game music intro. So I think they did
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: a fabulous job of taking the the vibes of all
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: the different movies and combining them in a way that's
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: super satisfying to the video.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I also love this comment about hogs Me
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: because I do love the soundtrack. It feels so lively
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: and it feels like you just want to stay in
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: there forever. It's like, you know, it's it's great, it's
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: it's it's so I don't know, it's like they they
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: actually did accomplish what they wanted to because you're like
- 1:54:48Speaker 2: full immersed in there and you can feel the joy
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: and you can feel it's sometimes like disrupted by a
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: troll every once in a while.
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: God.
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: But yeah, and I speaking of hogs me it's so
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: good because it's not there just for like decorum purposes.
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: It's not just there as a backdrop. You actually have
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: a functional uh you know, it's not just to buy gear.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: You can buy potions, ingredients, you can buy and that
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: adds to that feeling alive and feeling like something that
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: you know, like its own character somehow. So I love that,
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: you know, it has its like very peculiar and very
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: recognizable soundtrack already.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: It is so neat that they add an element of
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: attachment to hogsmeat where you can go. It's not a
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: specific weekend that you can go. You get to go
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: whenever you want. And you if you need to buy
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: potion ingredients because you I can't defeat this thing in
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: the forest that has this quill that I need for
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: to put into this potion, I can go to the
- 1:55:54Speaker 3: potion shop to grab that. If I want a new
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: type of broom, I can go to the broom area.
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: I get to go to Olivander's little adjacent thing because
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: we didn't want to do diagon Alley in this game.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: I can go and get new vibe fits and glad rags.
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: I can go and get my hair cut. There's this
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: awesome connection point. In the future, I'd like to see
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: Zonco's become actually have selling points where you can get
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: stuff that you can use in battle. And I'd love
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: for you to be able to buy food at Honey
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: Dukes that would heal you, yeah, so that there's more
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: of a game fit component there. Because you can go
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: into those shops, you can't really buy anything. So I
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: would love to see that in the future. But I
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: think it's so cool that they that they have you
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: go to Honks Meat and that the pathway to there
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: is beautiful and as you were pointing out Amy like you,
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: as you're moving into it, you get the transition of music,
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: which is very like theme park design as well, where
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: you know you're going through a portal and you will
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: go into this extra area. You get an entire different
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: vibe check on what's going on.
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: Yeah, So as we come closer to the end of
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: our main discussion, I wanted to cover a couple more things,
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: a little bit about the overall reception of the game.
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: So when it came out, it was widely praised for
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: the combat feel and spellcasting spectacle, also the world design
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: and Hogwart's atmosphere. So, like we mentioned this before, but
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: you know, while the overall castles look layout stakes close
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: to the film's version, Hogwart's Legacy adds its own twist,
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: just like they did with the soundtrack, and they add
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: these extra layers and pathways that make it easier to
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: get lost in its hundreds of corridors, and the interiors
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: differ significantly from both the EA era games and the films,
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: but a handful also, like of locations do feel almost
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: one to one familiar, like Defense against the Dark Arts classroom,
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: the Potion's classroom, the hospital wing, the interior of the
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: clock of the clock tower. I could keep naming a few,
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: but they really like, like we discussed the library too,
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: like sections of the library. So you know how they
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: have like really respected what has come before and how
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: they yet said, Okay, how do we expand this? That's
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: already so well established and give it our own twist
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: and and just you know, make it our own as well.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: So I think that's that's something that people really really
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: enjoyed of the game. And yeah, that's all I have
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: to say about that.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: It was at the very end of our interview with
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: Adrian Ropp we asked, point blank will there be a
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: Hogwarts legacy too? And this was before we'd gotten any news,
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: and he said, if Spider Man won sold really well,
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: do you think they'd make a Spider Man two? And
- 1:58:55Speaker 3: either Urban or I went yes. In fact, they made
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: three of them and it went well. I have no
- 1:58:59Speaker 3: break news, and even if I did, I wouldn't say
- 1:59:02Speaker 3: it because I don't want to leak anything. But I
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: would imagine that if something does very well, companies that
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: are interested in making money will want to make more money.
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: And so you know, there's all to say. This reception
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: was so incredible that there's no chance and no choice
- 1:59:18Speaker 3: but to do this right. There's no shot of it
- 1:59:20Speaker 3: not happening. The Warner brother sale always makes I think
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: anybody nervous when when stuff gets moved around, like when
- 1:59:29Speaker 3: Star Wars was bought by when Lucasfilm was sold to
- 1:59:34Speaker 3: by Lucas, to Disney everyone, and you know they did
- 1:59:37Speaker 3: cancel projects. I would imagine that Paramount will not be
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: messing with such a gigantic success, especially when it's already
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: in production. But thank goodness, this was such a good
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: commercial production, right, performance was so excellent, or else I
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: think it would be in a little spot of danger.
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: But this is the best selling video game maybe of
- 1:59:59Speaker 3: all time. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it's
- 2:00:01Speaker 3: it's really up there, right.
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: Yeah, now that you're talking about that point. Yeah, the
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: sales were immediate and massive, so it stacked over twelve
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: million copies in around eight hundred and fifty million in
- 2:00:14Speaker 2: revenue within the first weeks, and later milestones pushed it
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: into one of the best selling games territory, with reports
- 2:00:22Speaker 2: reaching tens of millions of copies and around one billion
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: total revenue. So yeah, that's uh, that's doing numbers for sure,
- 2:00:36Speaker 2: and yeah, it's been highly highly successful. And again, like
- 2:00:39Speaker 2: we also tapped into earlier in the episode, I think
- 2:00:42Speaker 2: it's great that this planted the seed. And you know
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: that there's so much more to the Wizarding World than
- 2:00:47Speaker 2: Harry Potter, and there's so much more like for us
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: to kind of like you know, all these different like
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: not just Hogwarts itself, but like we were talking about
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: like different schools around the world and different you know,
- 2:00:59Speaker 2: locations and storylines and and setting in times and like
- 2:01:05Speaker 2: all these this this endless amount of possibilities and this
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: game literally proved that after the financial Black Loster films
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: that you know, the Fantastic Beasts saga, so it was
- 2:01:22Speaker 2: it was it was kind of like them saying, you know,
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: this is like our last chance of really pushing this
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: forward and seeing how it and it really came out
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: the right way, and yeah, the outcome was great.
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I did exactly what they needed it to do.
- 2:01:41Speaker 3: Absolutely it did mm hmm.
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And and also, you know, we have to mention
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: all of these controversies that came with the with the
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: game and how you know, a lot of there were
- 2:01:54Speaker 2: a lot of campaigns to boycott the game, and there
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: were like a lot of things we know, like you know,
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: it was it was a very like tense time as well.
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: So seeing that people still care about the IP in
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: general and about the world in general speaks volumes and
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: just how much it's still worth to keep investing in it.
- 2:02:16Speaker 3: You know, I think it's interesting books. I can understand
- 2:02:21Speaker 3: a lot more of not wanting to support there's so
- 2:02:24Speaker 3: much more of that money goes directly into the hands
- 2:02:26Speaker 3: of Rolling. So if you are not wanting her to
- 2:02:28Speaker 3: get as much money, I understand. If you're not wanting
- 2:02:30Speaker 3: to get any money, I also understand a boycott. But
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: I will say here, movies, TV shows, and video games
- 2:02:36Speaker 3: employ a ton of different people. Yeah, any video game,
- 2:02:40Speaker 3: any movie that you might watch, any show that you
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: might watch, are going to have people on both ends
- 2:02:45Speaker 3: of the spectrum. That's inevitable. So you are, no matter
- 2:02:47Speaker 3: what you're doing, putting money in the pocket of somebody
- 2:02:50Speaker 3: that you probably don't agree with at any point. Now,
- 2:02:52Speaker 3: I will say, obviously there's a big difference in Rolling,
- 2:02:55Speaker 3: who like literally is paying into making a legal system
- 2:02:59Speaker 3: in the UK. That's unfair. I understand the difference between
- 2:03:01Speaker 3: that and like somebody who's an executive assistant, tradition person
- 2:03:05Speaker 3: who grabs coffee not being a fan of trans people.
- 2:03:08Speaker 3: But I will say this, the new show coming out
- 2:03:11Speaker 3: has Papa said he's avidly for trans people, So he's
- 2:03:15Speaker 3: getting money from the show. That's great. Do you want
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: to support that, and the same thing with video games.
- 2:03:20Speaker 3: There are tons of people in the video game industry
- 2:03:22Speaker 3: filled with creatives. In general, creatives are very much on
- 2:03:25Speaker 3: the LGBTQI plus side of things, so that you are
- 2:03:28Speaker 3: going to be putting money in the hands of people
- 2:03:31Speaker 3: that are on your side and campaigning for the things
- 2:03:33Speaker 3: that you agree on if you are choosing to boycott,
- 2:03:36Speaker 3: and so I think it's fairly easy to say this
- 2:03:39Speaker 3: video game's worth it. I will also say, for the
- 2:03:41Speaker 3: bad actors out there, stop putting out fake information. There
- 2:03:44Speaker 3: was all of this stuff about Jewish stereotypes and the goblins,
- 2:03:47Speaker 3: that goblins were gonna eat babies in this video game.
- 2:03:49Speaker 3: There's a big social media guy who said that that
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: stopped the Jewish community for wanting to buy this in
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: several airs, And my adopted grandmother is Jewish, and I
- 2:03:59Speaker 3: went to tumble with her many times. I I double
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: checked because that that is not fair, that is not fun,
- 2:04:03Speaker 3: that is not good at all if that were to
- 2:04:05Speaker 3: be the case, and it wasn't the case. So a
- 2:04:07Speaker 3: little bit of a lesson here for all of us.
- 2:04:09Speaker 3: Double check right there, Yes, yes, and influencers want clicks.
- 2:04:17Speaker 3: Journalists always at the big spot want clicks as well,
- 2:04:20Speaker 3: but also are held to a higher status. So wait
- 2:04:23Speaker 3: for a journalist, uh, two journalists of sources to confirm
- 2:04:27Speaker 3: something that usually means there's some truth to it. One
- 2:04:30Speaker 3: influencer saying stuff, even if you think you might trust them,
- 2:04:33Speaker 3: not the news that you should be listening to.
- 2:04:36Speaker 2: M Yeah, do your research, go to your source. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 2:04:45Speaker 2: And just you know, just to wrap up our may discussion,
- 2:04:49Speaker 2: so allot about the post launch updates. So we know that,
- 2:04:53Speaker 2: you know, beyond the core game, post launch support added
- 2:04:56Speaker 2: features and platform parody updates over time. So so this
- 2:05:00Speaker 2: brings previously exclusive items or content to more players and
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: also responding to common requests. So like photo mode other features.
- 2:05:10Speaker 2: I think photo mode, I haven't tried it, but I
- 2:05:12Speaker 2: think it's it's interesting. Yeah, yeah, because you can kind
- 2:05:16Speaker 2: of like customize it and just like frame it the
- 2:05:18Speaker 2: way you want it to and just it's it's a
- 2:05:21Speaker 2: pretty good, pretty cool feature. And and you know a
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: lot of people want it more content, They want it
- 2:05:28Speaker 2: more DLC. They wanted an actual like post game, but
- 2:05:33Speaker 2: you know, right now, Warner Brothers Discovery executives have publicly
- 2:05:36Speaker 2: signaled that a sequel is a major priority for the
- 2:05:39Speaker 2: game's division after the game's success. So it's more than likely,
- 2:05:44Speaker 2: almost one hundred percent sure. Just like you said, sound
- 2:05:46Speaker 2: like we are going to get a sequel to Hogwart's Legacy.
- 2:05:49Speaker 2: That is a fact almost you know, we don't know
- 2:05:53Speaker 2: when yet, but yeah, it's definitely coming, and I am yeah, Uh,
- 2:05:58Speaker 2: there's definitely going to be a lot more to come.
- 2:06:00Speaker 2: This is going to have its own like lore, and
- 2:06:03Speaker 2: it's going to become its own little universe. And and
- 2:06:06Speaker 2: I love that. I love the fact that you know,
- 2:06:08Speaker 2: we can have like these little established universes within this huge,
- 2:06:12Speaker 2: you know world that is the wizard World, this huge
- 2:06:16Speaker 2: like ip we like to call it in this podcast
- 2:06:20Speaker 2: where you're kind of like Wizarding World fans. Yeah, first,
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: we love Harry Potter, but it's as well we also,
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: you know, know how rich this world is and how
- 2:06:30Speaker 2: we can be to tell these stories.
- 2:06:32Speaker 3: If they spend some time actually exploring. Two things. Two
- 2:06:35Speaker 3: things to hear about the post game stuff. One, the
- 2:06:40Speaker 3: there has been a lot of mods released. Now. I
- 2:06:42Speaker 3: don't know if they're on PS five or Xbox as much,
- 2:06:44Speaker 3: but Steam has an incredible amount of mods that are
- 2:06:49Speaker 3: essentially allowed, like like, you can go into the game
- 2:06:52Speaker 3: add the mods on, and they're they're fan created mods,
- 2:06:55Speaker 3: and some of them are probably like creators of the
- 2:06:57Speaker 3: game that went in and added them, but it's not official.
- 2:07:00Speaker 3: And so you can add all of these different mods
- 2:07:02Speaker 3: and it changes the game experience a crazy amount. So
- 2:07:06Speaker 3: one of the things that's a big difference, right is
- 2:07:07Speaker 3: that Adrian was very firm with the team that you
- 2:07:11Speaker 3: cannot use your want inside the school because the wand
- 2:07:15Speaker 3: is essentially a weapon, and he thought it was inappropriate
- 2:07:18Speaker 3: to launch a game where you can use Avoda Caadavra
- 2:07:22Speaker 3: or other killing spells inside of school in the climate
- 2:07:25Speaker 3: of a bunch of school shootings. However, the mods now
- 2:07:28Speaker 3: allow you to do that. You can kill a student.
- 2:07:30Speaker 3: It also comes with the mod where the Ministry of
- 2:07:32Speaker 3: Magic will come and fight you and try and capture you.
- 2:07:35Speaker 3: You can fight them, like. There's this like mod that
- 2:07:37Speaker 3: basically turns the game into Grand Theft Auto where you
- 2:07:40Speaker 3: go to Azkaban. We know that Azkaban already actually exists
- 2:07:43Speaker 3: in the game because Hufflepuff Side Quest goes to Azkaban,
- 2:07:46Speaker 3: so you can expand your terrarians. So the thing that
- 2:07:50Speaker 3: I was complaining about in the original game. You can
- 2:07:52Speaker 3: do that. You can do all of this other stuff
- 2:07:55Speaker 3: in the mods that are crazy, So I'm like just
- 2:07:56Speaker 3: a little bit into the game. With these mods, you
- 2:07:58Speaker 3: can choose what sees and it is, so you can
- 2:08:01Speaker 3: you can match up it being winter if it's actually
- 2:08:03Speaker 3: winter outside your window.
- 2:08:05Speaker 2: So that's cool.
- 2:08:06Speaker 3: Yeah, if you guys have not played with mods on,
- 2:08:09Speaker 3: I recommend a big playthrough with changing it up where
- 2:08:13Speaker 3: you're like, all the cats that are in there, you
- 2:08:15Speaker 3: can actually capture them and put them in the Room
- 2:08:17Speaker 3: of Requirement now like you can have you can be
- 2:08:21Speaker 3: a crazy cat lee and just walk around and be
- 2:08:24Speaker 3: like pet you pet you, pet you pet you ouh.
- 2:08:26Speaker 3: That's great, yeah, exactly. Also, you can expand your costume
- 2:08:31Speaker 3: options so that you look a lot more modern. It
- 2:08:34Speaker 3: gives a lot more female options as well, that aren't
- 2:08:37Speaker 3: just the terrible eighteen nineties skirts with the tights all
- 2:08:40Speaker 3: the way up, so it's either pants or terrible skirt
- 2:08:43Speaker 3: or a nice dress. It expands your hairstyles, your hair color,
- 2:08:47Speaker 3: your glasses options. There's just so much cool customization that
- 2:08:51Speaker 3: comes with it.
- 2:08:52Speaker 2: I saw, yeah, I saw one that's actually Boltemore. You
- 2:08:54Speaker 2: play as bulls. Yeah, yeah, that's hilarious.
- 2:08:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I will also say my second play through that
- 2:09:00Speaker 3: I'm now working on, I've named my character Morganock as
- 2:09:03Speaker 3: his last name, walking around like hah, I'm the villain's ancestor.
- 2:09:08Speaker 3: All of you must be scared of me. It's like
- 2:09:11Speaker 3: in Pokemon, I named the rival in any of those games,
- 2:09:15Speaker 3: Tom Riddle, and it's just so funny because then Tom
- 2:09:17Speaker 3: has all of this dialogue.
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 2:09:26Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, that's been our our venture into Howart's
- 2:09:33Speaker 2: legacy lore and it's been fun. It's been fun talking
- 2:09:37Speaker 2: about the game, a little bit about the background, having
- 2:09:40Speaker 2: this inside information from Sam. It's wildly appreciated. Yeah, so
- 2:09:45Speaker 2: thank you so much for being here. And yeah, we've
- 2:09:48Speaker 2: had a lot of fun discussing this game and hopefully
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: for more years to come and we get a ton
- 2:09:55Speaker 2: more content. So yeah, stay tuned for more.
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: We'll do another episode for Hogwart's like too. Yes, excellent,
- 2:10:11Speaker 1: all right, so on too, Sonoris. Last episode, we asked
- 2:10:16Speaker 1: our listeners what element would you like to see in
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: future Harry Potter video games. We've got a couple of
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: responses here, so of course, Jerry sent us an email
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: and Jerry says not sure if I know the correct
- 2:10:30Speaker 1: gaming terms, but I wonder if they could make a
- 2:10:33Speaker 1: Hogwarts Grounds and Castle tour version of Hogwarts Legacy, which
- 2:10:37Speaker 1: could include visiting the castle common room and so on,
- 2:10:41Speaker 1: hopefully including the care and raising a beast without the
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: quests in battles. Yeah, that'd be cool.
- 2:10:48Speaker 3: It seems like a good mod that might honestly almost
- 2:10:51Speaker 3: might exist already. Yeah, who knows.
- 2:10:53Speaker 1: Maybe somewhere, And Jerry goes on to say otherwise, some
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: of the ideas that you floated at the end of
- 2:11:00Speaker 1: episode thirty eight sound like fun. I remember being gifted
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: with an English garden from Jacqueline Laws in greeting card line,
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: where I could grow different flowers with the seasons, arrange
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: things and so on. In a Hogwarts greenhouse and garden
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: game like that would be fun, although with magical creatures
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: even better. I would like something that can be played
- 2:11:21Speaker 1: at home with Wi Fi, either on a phone or PC,
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: rather than what I understand a Pokemon Go type game
- 2:11:28Speaker 1: that I think requires players to go to various places
- 2:11:31Speaker 1: with their phone and a data plan to capture things
- 2:11:34Speaker 1: that are only found in certain places. As my very
- 2:11:37Speaker 1: rural area has body cell service. In a very low
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: population density, and I understand very few things to collect
- 2:11:44Speaker 1: nearby for that sort of game. You folks design a
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: game for me.
- 2:11:48Speaker 3: I trust your skills amazing.
- 2:11:51Speaker 2: Gladly let me just let me just go to college
- 2:11:55Speaker 2: and study video game programming and game design and I'll
- 2:12:01Speaker 2: do that.
- 2:12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we can be the think tank. You know. They
- 2:12:07Speaker 1: can hire us and we'll just give them all the
- 2:12:09Speaker 1: ideas and let them do the work.
- 2:12:11Speaker 2: We're already doing it.
- 2:12:12Speaker 1: So and then Lucy also sent us a message saying
- 2:12:18Speaker 1: playing with friends on Legacy and an option to just
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: do the side quest and not the main story. I
- 2:12:25Speaker 1: don't want to fight. I just want to run around,
- 2:12:28Speaker 1: but I need to do the main story to run
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: around all the places. Yeah, playing with friends would be
- 2:12:34Speaker 1: cool to play, super cool.
- 2:12:36Speaker 3: Yeah, a little multiplayer again. I think what Jerry was
- 2:12:41Speaker 3: saying too, right, Like can we turn off combat for
- 2:12:43Speaker 3: a little bit so I can just go and explore?
- 2:12:45Speaker 3: Can we turn off spiders? Can we turn off infray?
- 2:12:47Speaker 3: Can we can? I just I just want the vibes.
- 2:12:50Speaker 3: I don't want peace, not war.
- 2:12:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, co op mode that would be Yeah, that.
- 2:12:59Speaker 3: Would be co op co op gentle mode.
- 2:13:02Speaker 2: Mm hmmm hmm.
- 2:13:11Speaker 1: So, Tom, I don't know. I put this question in.
- 2:13:13Speaker 1: If we don't like it and we want to replace
- 2:13:15Speaker 1: it with something else we can.
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: I like it. I dig it, Okay.
- 2:13:20Speaker 1: I figure it would get us responses.
- 2:13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, So for our discussion question, we'd like to hear
- 2:13:29Speaker 2: from you. So what do you think could happen and
- 2:13:32Speaker 2: its sequel to Howard's legacy? So be sure to drop
- 2:13:35Speaker 2: us an email at Revalio podcast staff at gmail dot
- 2:13:39Speaker 2: com or reach us on social media that is on
- 2:13:42Speaker 2: Facebook at Facebook dot com, backslash revaliocast on Instagram, and

- 2:14:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and Sam, where can people find you if they
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: want to look up you and your show?
- 2:14:07Speaker 3: Yes? Awesome. So if you guys are interested in listening
- 2:14:09Speaker 3: to Fantom shmannem as a reminder, we did Stranger Things.
- 2:14:12Speaker 3: All of those episodes are out. We are currently publishing
- 2:14:15Speaker 3: and recording for the Star Wars prequels later in this year.
- 2:14:20Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:14:20Speaker 3: This is a first reveal we've hinted at on other podcasts,
- 2:14:23Speaker 3: but exclusive to you guys, we will be doing Avatar
- 2:14:25Speaker 3: the Last Airbender, the original cartoon series in preparation for
- 2:14:29Speaker 3: the movie about Aang and the Gang as adults coming
- 2:14:33Speaker 3: out in October, and then later we will be doing
- 2:14:36Speaker 3: some secret hidden science fiction that is not Star Wars,
- 2:14:41Speaker 3: definitely has a desert planet, maybe some giant worms, and
- 2:14:44Speaker 3: one of those movies is coming out in December, so
- 2:14:46Speaker 3: we'll be covering those fandoms in twenty twenty six. The
- 2:14:49Speaker 3: show that Shall Not be Named, of course, is coming
- 2:14:51Speaker 3: out in twenty twenty seven. I'm sure we'll be covering
- 2:14:54Speaker 3: that on fantom Shamanda, and we'd love to have you
- 2:14:56Speaker 3: guys on to help discuss that we can do maybe
- 2:14:58Speaker 3: a home and Home like we're doing. And of course
- 2:15:01Speaker 3: Nicole will be on our Revenge of the Sith podcast,
- 2:15:04Speaker 3: which is out I think by the time you guys
- 2:15:07Speaker 3: listen to this or it will be out shortly, and
- 2:15:10Speaker 3: so be on the lookout for Nicole on our end
- 2:15:12Speaker 3: of things for Revenge of the Sith. But you can
- 2:15:15Speaker 3: find us at fandom shmandum pod for both Instagram and TikTok.
- 2:15:21Speaker 3: That's at fandom shmandom pod. You can also email us
- 2:15:25Speaker 3: at Phantom trend of Pod at gmail dot com if
- 2:15:27Speaker 3: you guys have any thoughts or ideas and we'd love
- 2:15:31Speaker 3: to get you guys's earballs listening to us as well.
- 2:15:34Speaker 3: So hopefully you guys got time.
- 2:15:37Speaker 1: Awesome, very cool, and thanks again for joining us.
- 2:15:40Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you guys so much for having me. This
- 2:15:42Speaker 3: is so much much fun. I don't have enough people
- 2:15:45Speaker 3: to talk to you about Harry Potter in my life period,
- 2:15:47Speaker 3: and the ability to talk about Hogwarts legacy is always great.
- 2:15:52Speaker 3: So thank you.
- 2:15:52Speaker 2: Just let us know when you want to be Yeah,
- 2:15:54Speaker 2: just let us know when you want to be back in.
- 2:15:57Speaker 3: And yeah, well any anytime you guys need to you
- 2:16:00Speaker 3: guys need a sub or a guest, contact me. I'd
- 2:16:02Speaker 3: love to pop on in awes.
- 2:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah, an amazing time.
- 2:16:06Speaker 3: Yeah good, Thank you guys so much.
- 2:16:09Speaker 1: All right, until next time, I'm I'm Tom and I'm
- 2:16:15Speaker 1: Sam Mischief managed
