- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to
- 0:03present to you the audio version of their weekly Friday Night,
- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. This meeting is being recorded.
- 0:41We're recording now. Hi, everyone.
- 0:44Its Athletics, LLC time whoo-hoo.
- 0:48This is so to note for the audience, this is the first
- 0:51time, a recording on our usual day, usual time.
- 0:57I think since December, I don't know the last time we actually
- 1:02started at the prescribed time. Well, when did baseball season
- 1:07start for you guys? Yeah, seriously, so, welcome
- 1:13one. Welcome all to the to the Six
- 1:15Ring Circus for the night called Athletics, LLC will go around
- 1:20the table and say Hi. And then introduce those who
- 1:23don't know to this fixed guest tile.
- 1:26So to the Hungry Man, himself Clyde, how we doing, I mean,
- 1:32Petty people. Oh my gosh, that's talking.
- 1:39Oh, without a hesitation, that was awesome.
- 1:43Governor, how are you today doing?
- 1:46Well, I'm ready to go. So lucious, how are, you know, I
- 2:01for the first time in like three weeks I'm able to breathe
- 2:06Eugene. Absolutely crushed my sinuses.
- 2:09Tom's. I was there and I just the best.
- 2:10I felt literally in three weeks. So the fact that to go back out
- 2:14there and 12 days is not that exciting but we'll figure it
- 2:17out. Relishing the 12 days while they
- 2:21are here. Exactly.
- 2:24Lamar free Jasmine more often, man.
- 2:28Oh boy, I think that says it. All right, that tells you what
- 2:34kind of mood I'm in Oh my gosh. So last.
- 2:42But very very much though, not least we have our guests with us
- 2:47this evening. I think the one person who can
- 2:50actually tame Lamar in the sense or very much trigger him at the
- 2:55very next sentence, we have the wonderful women.
- 3:00Victor how are you today sir? I'm good.
- 3:04Thank you guys for having me. It's about time.
- 3:10Thank you, thank you. And
- 3:25it's about to go down. All right.
- 3:31Well, a stance a position that Linden is familiar with and very
- 3:39There are even Hots, not even the word.
- 3:43Hellish topic just because of the heat of it the Bowerman
- 3:47nominees or lack thereof. There wasn't a way that we
- 3:54couldn't talk about it, but I know that it's been overly
- 3:57discussed / the internet /, your coffee tables and text messages.
- 4:01So you know, we'll let Lamar start off just because it's in
- 4:05his name this week, not that we're freeing Jazz and more but
- 4:09we're definitely a trying to put her somewhere, right?
- 4:15Yeah, first off, I guess, let me, let me say this, before it
- 4:21gets spun, I feel like the committee did an incredible job
- 4:27with the three nominees that they actually on the women's
- 4:30side were talking about with the three nominees that they put in
- 4:33chairs. I I think maybe the most
- 4:38egregious thing done by any track and field governing body
- 4:43was not Having Jasmine boars fourth chair in addition to the
- 4:49other three. Nobody needs to come off.
- 4:53This is not a normal Year. Yes, I know.
- 4:56They like, you know, we're only supposed to have three, but when
- 4:59you have a year where you have this level, this level of
- 5:03athletic greatness, those four people deserve to be, you know,
- 5:11measured voted upon. And I mean, look here's the
- 5:14thing. Any one of the four could win
- 5:16and I could make a case for her against.
- 5:18So I don't have a dog in the fight in that regard other than
- 5:21I want to fight to have all the cover the correct combatants.
- 5:25And I'm just going to rehash my arguments from earlier in the
- 5:34summer or I guess. Summer.
- 5:39If you have a perfect season and you are a field of enter and
- 5:44they don't nominate you for an award, then they're basically
- 5:48telling you that you need not apply.
- 5:51Like I don't understand how you can possibly not have Jasmine
- 5:55more in contention for about our mental ward.
- 5:59In a year that she didn't lose in a long.
- 6:02Just a triple jump competition at the national meat or the
- 6:05conference meet. I just I don't get it and I
- 6:09don't I think that position is indefensible and I'm gonna bang
- 6:16on trash cans and and yell from the top of rooftops and do
- 6:20everything I possibly can probably to no avail.
- 6:23I'm probably punching are, but I just, I want the, the I want
- 6:27those young ladies to all They at least got one loudmouth.
- 6:31EP who says that? This right?
- 6:33This wrong needs to be righted. I'm gonna jump in here and try
- 6:40to be as concise as possible. Obviously, this is difficult for
- 6:47me, because I don't want to fight so hard for Jasmine that
- 6:52overlooked. The not only just the other
- 6:55three, but the very special lady for my program.
- 6:57That is on the is on the is in one of the chairs.
- 7:02I have said for years that I think about women process is
- 7:05wrong, I think they think it's right.
- 7:08There have been people that have won the award before that, we
- 7:10didn't agree with them to people win the Heisman, but I think
- 7:14that in track and field would gets this wrong is There should
- 7:19be an award for the track and field news, does the performance
- 7:22of the year and then there should be a word for the
- 7:25performer of the Year. Anytime you line up and do what
- 7:31Jasmine does, there's got to be an argument for her to be in one
- 7:33of the chairs. Right.
- 7:36There was other ladies out there has incredible Seasons, Miss
- 7:38Destin it and then was pretty nasty this year, right?
- 7:42Brittany Wilson. I mean, come on.
- 7:46So it's not just Jazz, did you know this?
- 7:50Not there. That's not special for jazz.
- 7:52Was just extra special but so the people out there that that
- 7:57are thinking that I wanted somebody off of there.
- 8:01No I did not really you know cam Rogers is done something
- 8:06incredible. She got the top 10 marks ever in
- 8:08the internet clearly you know what Abby has done?
- 8:14This year has been phenomenal. Nobody's trying to take away
- 8:17from anything and Obviously, I have witnessed, the greatness of
- 8:20an alcohol on a daily basis. And as I shared with the EP
- 8:24earlier, the disadvantage that Anna has, is it?
- 8:28And I can't do what she does every weekend.
- 8:30Right now she can't do almost every week.
- 8:33She can't do a multi with you. I mean the kind of deep.
- 8:35He said well she probably could but like not at the level that
- 8:40that we need to you. I think for me, I hope we learn
- 8:47our lesson here. And I hope that there's
- 8:49something put into place that allows for.
- 8:51When there is a great year, like this, your, let's not forget
- 8:54about favor, Ophelia who, I mean, I think four weeks ago,
- 8:57people thought she might be the Ballon d'Or winner because what
- 8:59she was doing to that point, you know?
- 9:01So, you know, there's a lot of young ladies out there that have
- 9:04been phenomenal. So, maybe there's a caveat put
- 9:08in there for to place that from this day forward.
- 9:11I guess there's this kind of year you put four or five or
- 9:14whatever you have to do to put up there to make it fair to
- 9:16everybody. So you because Let's celebrate.
- 9:20Everybody is my thing. Let's celebrate the greatest of
- 9:23everybody because somehow, you know, when we're going through
- 9:27this process, you know, don't trust me.
- 9:29We're going to celebrate the hell out and all, you know, and
- 9:31we should and, but it's kind of a slap to Jasmine to Britain to
- 9:39Destin to favor, being helped, those four people could be in
- 9:43the chair, you know? Do you could have a second
- 9:44boundary show in the for them being?
- 9:47So I think it's to the greatest of the ladies.
- 9:49This year kudos to them, Applause to all them and all
- 9:52their coaches. And like I said, I think that
- 9:55there just needs to be something said that when you have yours
- 9:58like this, you can put more than three up there to do.
- 10:01What's right for the sport. I want to hear from the former
- 10:07Barrowman finally what she do. I can definitely speak from.
- 10:18From a different perspective from a lot of people.
- 10:24And I also want to talk about am environment finalists because I
- 10:28thought we're gonna we're gonna get there.
- 10:30Will we will? We will stay in your lane young
- 10:33man. Well yeah, I think I personally
- 10:42think that is a tough decision to pick out of these for women
- 10:47is just like you could pick, you can pick five different people,
- 10:52and five different people have a different finals, you know, but
- 10:59I just don't know how you leave Jasmine out of it, it might
- 11:02like. So I do track and field, I run,
- 11:07I jump I thought right? And to win.
- 11:11The thing is is like I didn't think she was a favorite to win
- 11:13the lonja in my opinion and the fact that I knew that she was
- 11:17gonna win the Triple but in fact that she won the lawn job in a
- 11:21few were tagged, it means is there and all these other women
- 11:24are entire getting was a finalist last year.
- 11:27And the wind both indoor and outdoor.
- 11:32National Championship, that's a mute.
- 11:34Like I expected them to win the Triple but the fact that she
- 11:37came back and won the long jump, that to me is really, really
- 11:40impressive. You know, it takes a different
- 11:43type of person to take 12 germs, you know, International Talent,
- 11:48International meet, and come back and win both of them.
- 11:51So the thing is, we're human. Like a human judgement,
- 11:58everybody thinks different and everybody have their reason
- 12:00because I'm sure that these kind of people had their reasons why
- 12:03they left her out. I just don't know why my opinion
- 12:06but yeah, I'm not that's not a knock from, I mean, what Abby
- 12:11did was just phenomenal and what Oh, that's crazy.
- 12:21Like, there's this phenomenon is crazy, and what I wanna do is
- 12:25just hit crazy to win 2-1 the forger hurdles at the national
- 12:29me. That's, that's ballsy.
- 12:31That's what I was saying, because, yeah, there's a lot of
- 12:34things that could go wrong. So we, we think you should have
- 12:37jumped into foreign orders when you were.
- 12:47Yes, and the fact that she pulled it off was amazing.
- 12:55I mean, what, what's the name didn't have?
- 12:59The the top 10 marks in the event.
- 13:02That's just yeah, that to me. So I don't know.
- 13:06I don't know. I just don't know if we have
- 13:09four chairs. Like when do we call it off?
- 13:11You know. Like what if a year if we have
- 13:14five NCAA Collegiate record holder, do we have five chairs
- 13:17and then we have six chairs if that's what's necessary to
- 13:21celebrate the the efforts, you know?
- 13:25I mean, I think it's, I think sometimes it's right.
- 13:28All right. Yeah, I think for Okay.
- 13:31Again like you said, everything is subjective.
- 13:33Here is like what our thoughts and feelings on.
- 13:37I just sometimes think that the Balmain committee gets caught up
- 13:41in performance versus the year, right?
- 13:47There's been some people that have won the award because they
- 13:51had a phenomenal NCAA Championship.
- 13:53All right and didn't do anything indoors.
- 13:58I've seen people on the final list that competed in doors
- 14:03turned Pro and were gone outdoors and they remained on
- 14:07the bottom of this, the rest of the year.
- 14:09So, who's paying attention, right?
- 14:12So that's my thing here is like, let's learn from it.
- 14:15Let's make it better. People need to recognize that
- 14:19track and field is evolving. You know, we will one of those,
- 14:23those we call the learning curve with our athletes and with our
- 14:26children. And so there's a learning curve
- 14:30going on and everybody's getting better.
- 14:33And I think that people need to pay attention to that point.
- 14:40Like if you break it you know it is basically you've got 12
- 14:45people and they get to rank their one through four maybe or
- 14:49one through whatever and then they can they get points based
- 14:52on where the each of the 12 rank them, right?
- 14:54So, should it be like that? Like okay, if I bring the
- 14:56Collegiate record, I get 12 points.
- 14:59If I win a National Title and I get 12 points, I don't know.
- 15:03The thick of it again it's like so you could have somebody that
- 15:10shows up at the outdoor conference and National meats
- 15:12and do crazy stuff. But then how do you do you do
- 15:16break on the re-breaking, a National Record above winning a
- 15:19national title. You know, so I don't know how
- 15:24you do it again. It goes to the mindset of the
- 15:26people on the panel, you know, and I'm clearly the people on
- 15:29the panel didn't value Jasmine's performances as much as they
- 15:33value. The others, I mean, I am not
- 15:35ever going to bash the pedal like I mean, I know we want to
- 15:40sometimes but you know, we live in a society where people's
- 15:45opinions or their opinions and so this was their opinion so I
- 15:49wasn't I was trying not to in my Affairs I was Two bass, their
- 15:53opinion. I was just saying, maybe this
- 15:56one did. This is a, you should add four,
- 15:57maybe even five chairs up there. Because the women's field was
- 16:00that deep vision. I'm gonna bash anybody's
- 16:05opinions. That doesn't put somebody who
- 16:07doesn't lose one damn time in a year in a chair.
- 16:12Yeah, for me, I don't know what you got for.
- 16:14Is that dudes fired up tonight? We'll try to keep your body
- 16:17control jiggly. Yes, who me?
- 16:19It's I just look at it from from one standpoint and it's again I
- 16:29think when you have Awards like this that are subjective and you
- 16:38have a group of people that are making up making these decisions
- 16:41you know, I mean, the Heisman, you can go down the line.
- 16:44They're all of these different awards that try to encapsulate
- 16:51someone season. Someone's performance throughout
- 16:55the year. So I'm looking at the list,
- 17:01right? And I'm trying to understand,
- 17:03okay. Does it matter what the athlete
- 17:08did strictly from an NCAA standpoint?
- 17:14and I mean, what I mean by that is, are you just looking at it
- 17:18from dominating, the NCAA Right. Because if that is the case, if
- 17:27you're looking at what Jasmine more did during the NCAA season,
- 17:36No brainer like it just there's there's no way you don't include
- 17:41her, you just, right? So when you make a decision to
- 17:47Omit, Jasmine more, are you saying that the athletes that
- 17:53are, there are now going above and beyond NCAA?
- 17:58And you're now looking at their actual performances, And you
- 18:03know, equating what they're doing with the professional
- 18:08World, whatever. I don't think you know we your
- 18:14kind of having two arguments at the same time because there is a
- 18:20huge push right now and there's either these conversations that
- 18:23are be having that are talking about not allowing perfect
- 18:27collegians, they should not be competing with the
- 18:32professionals, right? That is a real conversation
- 18:35right now, we can get into that bullshit like Yes, we are.
- 18:42So again, are you equating the athlete against his or her peers
- 18:50in the NCAA? Are you judging the Baumann?
- 18:56On what an athlete has done during the Collegiate season.
- 19:00If that is the case, it is cut and dry.
- 19:08It's and the spirit there should be no argument.
- 19:11We should not be having this conversation.
- 19:13So, you know, I, I know there's going to be a lot of
- 19:17hand-wringing and they're probably going to be a lot of
- 19:19conversations between now, and when it actually happens, I
- 19:24think it's a shame for, for Jasmine's and not be on that
- 19:29Podium and not be on that stage. She deserved it, she did not
- 19:34lose, she dominated. Okay.
- 19:39So, I have to question and look for the for Clyde starts.
- 19:45Let let us be clear that hearing Gainesville we're done with
- 19:48this. You're right, we are getting
- 19:51ready for the world championships.
- 19:53We have, you know excuse my language, we got shit to do,
- 19:57right? And we are going to support Anna
- 20:01at the highest level because everything the Kareem just said
- 20:05about Jasmine. Also applies to a Also applies
- 20:09to cam also applies to a be right.
- 20:14So I want everybody to stop acting as if we're not
- 20:17celebrating the, the other three.
- 20:20Because we are because they were phenomenal this year.
- 20:23And obviously I'm biased until for my girl, of course, I'm
- 20:25supposed to be right? Yeah.
- 20:27For both of my girls and they're like, you know, the everybody on
- 20:31the panel, understand this, except for Linden, you know,
- 20:33you're only is unhappy, you're only as happy as your unhappiest
- 20:36child, right? And so, When Jasmine's unhappy,
- 20:39she's like my child. But so I got a, I've got a fight
- 20:43for for Jasmine, but I also gotta promote and celebrate
- 20:48what, what Anna did this year, because it was incredible.
- 20:53Uncle, I go ahead. I'm sorry, Linden was about to
- 20:56say, okay. Do you think that if Jasmine
- 21:04haven't had jumped seven meters? But I just just going back to
- 21:07what Korean was talking about, like what are you basing?
- 21:10It out if you're busier and dominance or what do you think?
- 21:13She had jumped seven meters in the long jump.
- 21:15It would have been a different story.
- 21:18I think that's a question for the, for the pain.
- 21:20Yeah, yeah, that's question for the and again, like because
- 21:25there's 12 people, you know, and there's 12 different opinions.
- 21:30So there's 12 different people on this panel who have their,
- 21:35you know, everybody has their favorite, whatever for track and
- 21:39field, right? Because track and field that dad
- 21:40first So there's somebody on the dad, really likes the distance.
- 21:44Run into somebody likes to throw somebody like this.
- 21:46So it's going to get go in there, you know?
- 21:50No tar, Davis jump, seven meters, she didn't win it last
- 21:53year, mmm. Alright, so I'm going
- 21:58basketball, we're surprised we're surprised.
- 22:05This is the panel published, can I?
- 22:08Can I Google the panel? I don't think so, right?
- 22:12I'm not though, I'll see. So if it's Google I would love
- 22:16to know that. Here's my issue, I don't like
- 22:20panels. But if we're going to have them
- 22:23much like college football, playoff handle your put on you,
- 22:28I knew that I knew that was coming.
- 22:29Oh yeah you're supposed to have an
- 22:42ability to evaluate and properly, you know, in a
- 22:47Professional sense, be able to explain your choices.
- 22:51So I don't like panels and I also don't like when panels run
- 22:56from explanations of tough choices.
- 22:59My problem is this if there was ever a year where the Bowerman
- 23:05could look at the field and, you know, take on some some you know
- 23:11communism and add a fourth chair, you know, that's cool.
- 23:18You know you could do that because it's because it's
- 23:21worthy. All four women are worthy of
- 23:25being on that stage period. End of story.
- 23:30And I like everyone else will Echo that.
- 23:34No one is openly advocating that someone get pulled off the stage
- 23:39and you insert Jasmine more. However, if you're going to be.
- 23:45So this, the Bauman's a TV show, okay?
- 23:49That's what it is now. You can be creative enough to
- 23:55shorten. The little promos of each person
- 23:57enough to squeeze the fourth chair in John Anderson can tell
- 24:01one, or two less jokes? Even though we love him and we
- 24:04don't want that, right? Maybe you get the coaches to
- 24:07talk a little less. Maybe the video clips are a
- 24:09little shorter. I don't know what you got to do,
- 24:11to make it fit your framework. But in this particular example,
- 24:15the only right answer is you have four chairs.
- 24:19But if we're going to be stringent and archaic and say,
- 24:23nope, it's three. And that's the way it's going to
- 24:25be and damn it. We're not breaking that
- 24:26tradition. Cool, there's no metric that
- 24:29exists. No matter which side of this.
- 24:31You want to argue where the answer doesn't come out.
- 24:34Jasmine Moore's on the stage. What we have all been told is
- 24:39that the Bowerman award is the Heisman of track and field and
- 24:43it is all about the NCAA season. So if you're into Point
- 24:48Gathering, Jasmine, more wins. If you're into, who won the most
- 24:53national championships last stock last, I counted the other
- 24:58three women on the stage one. A total of four, National five,
- 25:02national championships, and Jasmine mourned by herself 14.
- 25:08So if that's your standard Jasmine's on the stage, if your
- 25:12standard is where their individual performances stack up
- 25:16in the all-time Pantheon of NCAA because remember, it's a college
- 25:22award. Last time I checked didn't
- 25:24Jasmine more break her own National records this year.
- 25:29Make sure they said indoors. Right so you know she's number
- 25:35one like everybody else is number one, as I understand.
- 25:40Now if you start getting outside of that bubble and you want to
- 25:44bring in extra context to break the ties, that's cool.
- 25:50I'm a huge fan of can Rogers. I worked on Berkeley staff.
- 25:53I didn't coach her I'm not a throws person but can't Rogers
- 25:56is number nine all the time in the history of the event not in
- 25:59college in the world. So if you want to throw in that
- 26:03context to break the tie with the other two, ladies, I'm with
- 26:07that but it has to start first and foremost with the Collegiate
- 26:10stuff and Jasmine. More is number one.
- 26:13If anything, she should be the favorite to win, not off the
- 26:16stage. and the other thing that I found really, really
- 26:21interesting if and please, this is more so for Lucius, if he
- 26:26would be the one to know, when Marquis didn't D1, did he not
- 26:31have basically the exact same resume, the Jasmine has He did,
- 26:37he went, I was my favorite like, like, like, like literally, even
- 26:42up to the fact that the only competition both of them lost
- 26:45it. During their year, was she lost
- 26:47the long jumper, Texas, relays, and so, did he?
- 26:51That was it. And other than that, they were
- 26:53almost identical, right? So Marquis dendi is, his season
- 26:58is good enough to be enshrined forever as the winner.
- 27:03The Jasmine can't get on the stage that doesn't make any
- 27:07sense to anybody. And my point is that they know
- 27:12that they screwed this up because they lock the comments
- 27:16because they don't want to talk about it.
- 27:17If you're going to make that kind of decision, then you step
- 27:20out there and you explain it. and you take your lumps that
- 27:24way, you know, I is Jasmine more, a senior sir, No.
- 27:30Okay, so the Gators can't have anything to do with this.
- 27:33So somehow, some way I am, I'm promoting that somebody in the
- 27:38world not connected to the Florida program, get that young
- 27:42lady and outfit and get her a plane ticket and she crashes the
- 27:45stage in Colorado and somebody just hit her ass it's in
- 27:51Orlando. So there you go.
- 28:00This is the thing to to I believe.
- 28:02So that's what that's I think it's yeah it was supposed to be
- 28:07in Colorado. I will much prefer to go to
- 28:09Orlando, crash the party maybe man.
- 28:11That's finished it so we're not crashing any party.
- 28:53It just is what it is. It is what it is.
- 28:59DP you are muted. I don't know if you realize that
- 29:02only know I muted myself for all because I didn't want to just
- 29:06pile on and doesn't curse words. So, I want, I need the committee
- 29:11to step out and explain how we landed here, because whatever
- 29:16combination you came up with this is the only one that made
- 29:20zero sense, pushy. And again, the explanation is
- 29:25there's a panel of 12 they rank. They're people.
- 29:30Yeah they're assigned points for the rankings.
- 29:32They get from the people on the committee.
- 29:34Yeah. And then they get a point total,
- 29:36right? So that means people Jasmine
- 29:40more was not one or two on everybody's ballot, which is
- 29:44insane. Come here, I have the breakdown
- 29:50building up the panel, the panel is consisted of national and
- 29:53Regional media Personnel track and field statisticians.
- 29:57NCAA collegiate. Administrators past winners and
- 30:00presidents of affiliate organizations.
- 30:04It is based on another past winners.
- 30:07Don't get a vote until the until they until they made the final
- 30:1133. And then, so based on it is
- 30:14based on the players regular season performances.
- 30:19Moreover, and this is the noted part.
- 30:21The UST scca can members and fans Collective collectively
- 30:28receive one vote during the Bowerman voting.
- 30:30We actually just got that email two days ago.
- 30:34Pearl the ballot on each ballot. The first choice is worth 3
- 30:39points. The second choice and third
- 30:42choice votes, receiving two, and one points respectively.
- 30:45So as their ballots are submitted, that this is how I
- 30:47read it as those ballots are significant.
- 30:50You see, I think you're talking about the final three.
- 30:53Yeah, you're talking about, we're trying to talk about the
- 30:58three or decide. Yeah okay so then the panel of
- 31:04Not the breakdown. So that's all that.
- 31:06That's all they give out lying in this and so that's why I'm
- 31:11saying I don't like panels and if we're going to have panels
- 31:14then we need transparency. Because listen if you want to
- 31:18build this award into what it has become, if this is the
- 31:22Heisman of our sport, the Heisman is supposed to matter.
- 31:27So if the Heisman matters damn it.
- 31:29We need to understand how we arrive at these decisions.
- 31:33Again whoever wins wins we're talking about.
- 31:36Yeah you could have just put another chair up there and no
- 31:39one would have complained and your TV show would have still
- 31:42been intact so he we should probably would have been better.
- 31:46Would have been better, definitely would have been
- 31:48better, so I'm not feeling it. And now we can probably get into
- 31:53the man cuz I'm not really feeling that one either.
- 31:58Well, let's let's start with our, let's start with our guests
- 32:01as to what he thinks of the of the men's Bowerman.
- 32:06Finalist mean, having been one of those sir, you are truly an
- 32:11expert more of an expert than any of us on this panel.
- 32:15I don't know that. But yeah, I thought it was a
- 32:20thought, is a really good feeling me.
- 32:22Personally, I'm happy that we have a multi on it.
- 32:24Yeah, you know, I think I think all the guys had a really,
- 32:29really phenomenal season. You know, I have a personal
- 32:35bias. I think that the woman, you
- 32:37know, rightfully so has all the buzz about it, but I'm really
- 32:41excited to see, you know, because I feel like the man is
- 32:46kind of up for grabs. In a way, you have Owen, you
- 32:51have the her left, forearm FSU, and you have the 400 guy.
- 32:57What's the name Randall for us? Randolph, who all had like
- 33:01ridiculous season. So I'm really looking forward to
- 33:05that. I wish I had a vote for the
- 33:06first time, you know? I wish I had a vote for for
- 33:10environment because I'm really excited about that.
- 33:13I personally think that the committee did a good job with
- 33:15selected, these three finalists, let's be clear.
- 33:20We all know. Use vote for the multi.
- 33:23Yes. There you have it folks,
- 33:33completely unbiased. Governor, what you got here?
- 33:44So, I think I have an idea of where this is going and I have
- 33:52an idea who's going to win. I think you know when you look
- 33:58at this this this final this Trio you know things things have
- 34:06been trending in a certain direction.
- 34:08I mean if anyone has been paying attention and and reading about
- 34:14NCAA track and field on the men's And, and who's getting the
- 34:18most buzz and that sort of thing, I think, I think it could
- 34:23be a, pretty simple. This thing could be come to a,
- 34:26pretty simple conclusion, right? And once again, you know you
- 34:35look at that list and you wonder you wonder like how how did they
- 34:41come up with this list, you know, it's It is diverse.
- 34:47I love I love the fact again. Just echoing what what what
- 34:51lenders Linden said, I love the fact that a multi athlete is in
- 34:55there. A multi athlete that set the
- 34:58NCAA record in the decathlon and you know, NCAA Champion.
- 35:07So you know Brando Fross obviously you know he has you
- 35:14know the last two Here's a mean, he has pretty much elevated
- 35:18himself to the next, you know, the next in line for, you know,
- 35:24for the 400, he's elevated himself to that.
- 35:29What's up guide? The last two years.
- 35:31What last year got to do with this issue.
- 35:34I'm just I'm talking about my friends.
- 35:38Did I not start a couple of weeks?
- 35:47So I'm I am I am making the argument or I'm trying to say
- 35:59that this situation is a lot more about Trends than the
- 36:06woman's final three I you know so I'm going to leave it I'm
- 36:15actually going to stop. Talking at this point because,
- 36:23you know, once again, they're definitely some deserving
- 36:28athletes that are not on this list.
- 36:31I mean, we can, I can probably, I can talked Ad nauseam about
- 36:37who should be there all of this. But my answer to the question is
- 36:44that This, this has been coming from a long time ago.
- 36:50I'm honest. I'm just going to leave it
- 36:51there. At least the woman's thing was
- 36:58difficult to ponder. Mmm, I don't understand how this
- 37:03one's all that difficult to ponder last year Randolph.
- 37:08Ross phenomenal season 100% deserve to be on the stage.
- 37:14Hmm. This year Ain't no way in hell.
- 37:17You telling me he's on the stage above.
- 37:18Joe family, doesn't make any sense.
- 37:23It doesn't make any sense at all.
- 37:25And again, it's about the Collegiate season, right?
- 37:28Not apparently Soul. Yes.
- 37:31A. So they both won two national
- 37:35championships. Individual.
- 37:37Right? Did either one of them break, a
- 37:42national record. No.
- 37:46So if they both won two national championships individually and
- 37:49neither one of them broke National Record how does Joe his
- 37:53performances are more valuable because they were the number one
- 37:57contributing factor to the national championship.
- 38:01He's got the Cherry. Mmm, Tre, absolutely.
- 38:05Oh, ain't no one's absolute. And either one of them should
- 38:09probably win the award over Joe. But there ain't no way you won't
- 38:15tell me to Joe's off the street and ran over offices on not this
- 38:19year the culmination of your career.
- 38:23Don't mean anything. If it meant something then
- 38:25Edward says Iraq would be a Bowerman with who boy several
- 38:30times. Got it on PC and committee
- 38:40forever. There you go.
- 38:42And I realized that during the whole thing is like, I have
- 38:47never forgiven him for that. Yeah, I never met the guy.
- 38:51He's one way in CA championships than any man to ever walk
- 38:54because you're in it. Yep.
- 38:56And he was never the best guy, honestly.
- 38:59I think he was his freshman year and they were like, well, yeah,
- 39:02he's a freshman, it'll be okay. And then he wasn't the best
- 39:07right, right. Yeah, so that's my beef with the
- 39:12men. Like the men wasn't really kind
- 39:13of complicated shit to me is very clear and cut top three.
- 39:17Yes, I'm how we missed on that one.
- 39:19And I think that the same argument we use with the women
- 39:23is probably what her Joe because he didn't have the big indoor
- 39:27season and the other three did the other three were enduring
- 39:30national champions. You know, if you look at the
- 39:32national championships, he has the same number and that's what
- 39:35captions to all of them do except for they all did it
- 39:37indoors and out of, he just did it Outdoors.
- 39:40Really, that's harder. Hey.
- 39:42Hey, I'm not on the panel. Don't shoot the messenger.
- 39:46The qualification? They be Bowerman winners.
- 39:49Don't have to compete indoors. Oh, really.
- 39:53Now they don't have to have competitive out indoor season 1.
- 40:20Okay, so now I'm like look because this season.
- 40:33No, so now I get it. So indoor indoors doesn't
- 40:35matter. So if endures doesn't matter,
- 40:38then all. Hey, look, baby, Josie be on the
- 40:41stage. Hello.
- 40:43I mean, I have this debate earlier.
- 40:47Do you probably should have told me that in the same breath
- 40:51though, did it then hurt him because he competed in indoor
- 40:56season? You know what I mean?
- 40:57Like if you omit it, then it's water.
- 41:21And win the 100 and the 200 at NCAA division 1.
- 41:25Then it is the wind the indoor and outdoor for I'm sorry it's
- 41:29harder. What Joe did was harder and it
- 41:33meant more Because the team got a trophy.
- 41:35So they're losers insert Lucius in the history of the NCAA.
- 41:39How many athletes have won? The 100 and 200 at the national
- 41:43meet? The you do we know?
- 41:48I know. Okay.
- 41:49These are people that I know. Okay.
- 41:51Obviously Joe was some, the Texas Tech Guy to just, did it?
- 41:56Yes. Oh to the guru.
- 41:57Yeah, I get it. The grass, the grass.
- 42:03Yeah, he wanted in 1581 100 and 200 so someone else has done it
- 42:14because right now, this is all yelling Gatlin did not, right?
- 42:17Yeah. Gavin did grab the do so.
- 42:20Yeah. Guys, to be an Olympian, I mean
- 42:28lyrics. And when night and into Monday.
- 42:34Okay, all right. Yeah.
- 42:37So, it hasn't been a ton of them, not feeling this.
- 42:40I can't think of, Okay, I don't know.
- 42:44I don't know what else is good. Come on.
- 42:46Anybody else. The other.
- 42:50Yeah. EP.
- 42:51Who else has done it? That, that, that's your, that's
- 42:53your wheelhouse Linda. Do, you know?
- 42:56Oh, I mean anybody? I mean prior to that you're
- 42:58talking about, you're going all the way back.
- 43:01Like, I think Frankie Fredrick's didn't, but it's not when I was
- 43:04in, I was in 91. Hmm, it auto do it.
- 43:07Yeah, it'll work. I don't think I think he won one
- 43:14without the other. I think, I don't think he won
- 43:16the think. That's correct.
- 43:17I think you won. I think he won the two and fall
- 43:19started in the one or something like that.
- 43:22And I got there 10:00 because he falls started.
- 43:27Maintain Big. Joe did something that only
- 43:31Olympians and half of them who move on to get medals or
- 43:34exactly. Exactly.
- 43:36And yes, I'm not feeling this one at all, not at all.
- 43:39Sorry. All right.
- 43:44Yeah, I can't find the answer to that.
- 43:47I'm let the fans fans can send us a.
- 43:50Well, like I said, like, your I think before that group, you're
- 43:53going to go back to, I think, I want to say Frankie and like 91
- 43:57or for to whatever it is, or 90 or 91, ladies 91, but then like,
- 44:02but beyond that, like, You talk about a long time ago then?
- 44:07Yeah. It's probably still isn't very
- 44:12many and wow let's not. Let's not ignore the fact that
- 44:18coming into the season because of last year Randolph, Ross was
- 44:21the favorite to do what he did. Nobody, I'm not even sure
- 44:26everybody on the gator campus had Big.
- 44:28Joe, winnin the hundred So, he upset the field.
- 44:35Some. So since you put that out there,
- 44:39we tell you, when let me tell you, when I thought Joe was
- 44:41going to win the hundred the last pushy different.
- 44:45The blocks before we went out on the track for the 100 years.
- 44:48Hmm and I said to myself because because what he did on the track
- 44:51wasn't even close to what he did in the back.
- 44:53Right. I said to myself now you do half
- 44:55of that, they got a problem. Yeah and he did get a little
- 44:59less than half and he still they had a problem and obviously at
- 45:0350 meters in the race. I was like oh yeah.
- 45:05That they're done. Yeah, he's about to do what?
- 45:08Does but no like my thing with that whole situation is I can
- 45:13guys like what I've learned over the last few days is that you
- 45:17know this is a opinion-based award it's even more so clear on
- 45:21that than before and not something that I need to get my
- 45:26blood pressure up about it's no matter who wins.
- 45:31This award this year on the Minotaur women there's gonna be
- 45:33people to walk away and be upset.
- 45:36I've witnessed that you As one of the other finalists will
- 45:41grant one that was really pissed off like hot.
- 45:44It felt that their guys should have want you know not sure why
- 45:49but that's the way they felt right?
- 45:51And you you're here. Yeah.
- 45:54And so like I think that we need to understand that this is an
- 45:57opinion based award and that this panel of 12 people has the
- 46:02pulse of America as a pulse of the world in some ways.
- 46:06And we can't let this create this content.
- 46:08Reverse C, and forget to celebrate everybody involved.
- 46:13Even those who are not on the stage and I guess the thing
- 46:15because when we 10 years from now we're going to be talking
- 46:19about this season, right? We're going to be talking about
- 46:23think about this favor old feely. 34 weeks ago was the NCAA
- 46:28record holder. You forgotten that?
- 46:31Yeah, right. Britain Wilson is like the
- 46:35number two or three. Four hundred in the history of
- 46:38the event. ENT and nobody's talking about
- 46:40that, right? It's crazy.
- 46:43You know destined this year record holder.
- 46:46I was talking about that because it because, you know, we need
- 46:50that, in my opinion, we need to find a way to celebrate This
- 46:54Woman's class because they are one of the best ever in my
- 46:59opinion. Yeah, one of the best ever.
- 47:04Okay. So, like I say this, okay, of
- 47:06the people that were on the the, take the 10 people that were the
- 47:11semi-final is, right. I think it were ten of them were
- 47:14that correct? It's okay, I'm old.
- 47:16Let you pick five of them is how many points you scored?
- 47:18The NCAA me. Forget over 100.
- 47:21Oh yeah she just take five of them right?
- 47:23Oh yeah. That's that's how good they are
- 47:26this you know and let's celebrate that you know you know
- 47:29won't pick up her What's weird is we had a points conversation
- 47:41competition and we actually one of the things we picked was High
- 47:45Point scorer and we all pick Jasmine more. it's and so, so
- 47:55I'm gonna let you guys in on the inside conversation I we landed
- 48:00in Eugene and I call the EP we have our you know, we talked at
- 48:05least once every day or two and so he said to me did you guys
- 48:08get there safely? I'm like yes he goes.
- 48:10Okay, it's Jasmine's more how she felt like a castle great.
- 48:15And he goes, you do understand no matter what people think
- 48:17she's going to win the vote. He said, in no world, am I ever?
- 48:21This is before we do the predictions on the show, but is
- 48:24there no world where I am picking his Jasmin more?
- 48:27Because she doesn't know how to This is what he said, he said,
- 48:31he said to. There's two things you can
- 48:32count, right? That Jasmine's went in and
- 48:36Anna's winning. And and he said, he said this,
- 48:39he said Anna will challenge the Collegiate record while it's
- 48:42doing the double. He said that to me on the phone
- 48:45like literally an hour, I forgot the Yugi.
- 48:48So, he's smarter than we give him credit for some time to to,
- 48:52I don't want you to do this now, okay?
- 48:55But I want you to since I'm on the questions at the end of the
- 48:59show today, I want you to tell me before I start Jasmine more
- 49:04scored 40 points at the national championships this year, how
- 49:09many did all the other people on the stage men and women total
- 49:14score? The six nominees or the Bible.
- 49:21But I don't think it's going to be much more for you.
- 49:23Well, it's going to be equal to 40 because
- 49:41you're okay. Yeah, the one about the outdoor
- 49:50me. Yeah I was the outdoor me so on
- 49:54the season and a score 28. Okay, we haven't scored 28 the
- 50:01hard way but not for the season.
- 50:25No, no. What's next?
- 50:30Jasmine dropped off the 40 Burger.
- 50:35Let's next question definitely includes our guest tonight.
- 50:42The legend himself. No Legend.
- 50:44Yes it is, you know, the big conversation right now and
- 50:48whether it's on one side or the other is going pro.
- 50:52And is there a correct answer as to when how, you know who do you
- 50:58go pro with all those questions that Encompass when do you go
- 51:02pro? When is it time to to?
- 51:04I would like, I would like to ask if you may, please read the
- 51:08comment from this Johnson because I think that Really
- 51:12leads leads to a Johnson pleasure Johnson, caught the
- 51:16Tweet. Yes.
- 51:19Got it. I mean right now I'm going to
- 51:21send it to where you got it. or you can read, if you haven't
- 51:26read it, if you got it, if you have a faster than I
- 51:43She says. TV this man.
- 51:47We talk mom. We'll talk about a lot of things
- 51:56she says I had because I want to make sure I read it properly.
- 52:00Whole she said, I had a Collegiate athlete asked me if
- 52:03he /. She should go pro even though
- 52:07they have the talent, I told them to stay in school, all
- 52:10caps, it's an easier Journey with support and resources.
- 52:14I promise you. That that was the Tweet Legend.
- 52:21The floor is yours, sir. Lifting it up to the corner
- 52:24there. Yeah, I think I think she has a
- 52:28very good point and that's because somebody that went pro
- 52:31not I think Student-athletes have this perception that when
- 52:37you go pro, you go to make a lot of money.
- 52:42And they have this perception of going pro, is the end of the
- 52:47year. you know, and I know I'm speaking from experience because
- 52:54when I went pro, it happened so fast that nobody told me what
- 53:00happens when you go for, you know what I mean?
- 53:03All, you know, is that all you finish the national meet you
- 53:06sign with an agent and you go pro.
- 53:09But what happens? Yeah.
- 53:13What a, what encompasses, all that?
- 53:15Like you no longer you've been in the shelter of the school
- 53:18system for four years, and you no longer have that and it
- 53:21happens to abruptly, like, all of a sudden like, okay, you
- 53:26can't use the culture of no more or you can It get the same
- 53:30treatment that you used to use that used to get any more, you
- 53:34know, if you, if you are sick, they just bringing a doctor for
- 53:37you. These are the things that nobody
- 53:40tell you, when you go pro, everybody thinks that, okay?
- 53:44I'm just going to sign this big shoe deal even when you sign a
- 53:46shoe deal. Like you, I thought as long as
- 53:51you win NCAA and you break a Collegiate record, the
- 53:54automatically going to get a big pity, like that's so
- 54:02professional athletes. Track and field athletes.
- 54:05Make it seem. Hmm, or you just look at one set
- 54:09of people and thing that everybody live the same life,
- 54:12you know. I wish that I was the coaches,
- 54:18get educate the athletes before they go pro on things that
- 54:23happen like you got to pay your agent.
- 54:59Don't get me wrong. Far.
- 55:09And few between that almost never happens.
- 55:12Right? What you get a shoe company to
- 55:14pay for your school and all these other things.
- 55:17But like, I'm sorry. But I might have to agree with
- 55:21the tweet in some ways, very like, okay, I know you have the
- 55:25ni L stuff now, like, it's know you could probably be in school.
- 55:32I make sixty thousand dollars like you and that money is not
- 55:39taxed. You have to fear agent like I'm
- 55:42sorry I wish I could go back to school right now and like if I
- 55:50stay in school and you tell me that I could do everything I do
- 55:54and you will pay me 50 thousand dollars.
- 55:57I'm not leaving My senior year every year you you avoid all of
- 56:07this drama. It's not as in my opinion that
- 56:13is like everybody may have a different view like the Spinners
- 56:16go make this million, they have four million dollars but that is
- 56:21so rare that that happens in our Sport and sometimes like even if
- 56:27And this is the crazy part, even if you are Sprinter, like, they,
- 56:30the shoe combination, I gave as low as possible.
- 56:34Like for as low as possible. And then, even if you sign for,
- 56:38let's say, I'm a sprinter camera card and I get 200,000 right.
- 56:44That 200,000 you only probably seen 120,000 years and honestly
- 56:54right now, 120,000 not a lot of money today going with it
- 56:58especially if you live in California and and that don't
- 57:01get me started. If you go forward from here,
- 57:05then you might add for 100,000 miles.
- 57:07We'll just stay in school, the timing. most of them are, hey,
- 57:15you are the MVP of this show, because you talked about truth,
- 57:23Okay, true. Look.
- 57:28Let's take it one step further. Okay.
- 57:31Let's say you sign for 750 thousand dollars.
- 57:36How much are you actually grossing?
- 57:40When it's all said and done, right?
- 57:44Like it's, you know, every every time whether it's an NFL
- 57:50football player, or a major Leaguer or somebody that has a
- 57:55Moment of clarity, And goes on a Twitter rant and starts to break
- 58:01down the numbers of their contract and what they ended up
- 58:05paying their agent and their therapists and all of these
- 58:09things. And what they actually end up
- 58:12with its it is mind-boggling. it is absolutely mind-boggling and
- 58:22there's so little education out there, you know, from the
- 58:26standpoint of, hey, You have two more years of Eligibility left.
- 58:31Okay, we are in the ni L age, okay?
- 58:35And they're knocking on the door.
- 58:37They want you to come out. They want you to go pro, can you
- 58:41literally stop for a second? And let's let's do some
- 58:44comparing and contrasting. Okay.
- 58:49Housing is taking care of your Foods, taken care of your
- 58:52therapies, taking care of your travels taken care of your
- 58:54equipment taken care of all of that costs money.
- 59:01Right when it's all said and done all of that you coming out
- 59:06of your pocket to pay for that. Also I walk with a lot of
- 59:11athletes are not mature enough to go pro and that's a big like,
- 59:17yeah is mature enough to go pro. But like a lot of a lot of
- 59:27athletes like especially if you don't have like, if you have a
- 59:31college quote and then you got to go on a circuit by yourself,
- 59:35like it takes maturity to be a professional athlete.
- 59:38It takes maturity like when your coaches away.
- 59:42With a group and you got to train by yourself.
- 59:46Like these are the things that they don't tell you when you
- 59:49become a professional athlete and like 18 years old, 19 year
- 59:56old going pro, not a lot of people have that, and don't get
- 59:59me wrong, there are some that do, but there's some that some
- 1:00:03time, one more year in college. Maybe the best thing that ever
- 1:00:06happened to me. Well, so, to that point, I mean,
- 1:00:10let's be clear. There's been very, very, very
- 1:00:13few people who have skipped College all together and made it
- 1:00:19or came out after year one and had successful careers.
- 1:00:23I mean, there might be five, right?
- 1:00:26So, that's great. I want to jump in here because I
- 1:00:28think Lamar Lucius will have much better closings on this
- 1:00:32topic than I would. In 2012, when I was working at
- 1:00:37Academy of Art, that's Ty Thomas was on my roster and usatf
- 1:00:44shenanigans, prevented her from running.
- 1:00:46The hurdles at the Olympic trials, she had to sit around
- 1:00:49and wait to do her secondary event, which was the long jump.
- 1:00:51And if I remember correctly, she had to jump her life and
- 1:00:54finished fifth overall, just barely missed this year.
- 1:00:58And there were agents and people coming up to me talking about,
- 1:01:01oh, you know, you want to sign her.
- 1:01:03And because, you know, she was flattered by all of this, she
- 1:01:07was legitimately considering it until we got back home.
- 1:01:11And I put a piece of paper in front of her and I said that,
- 1:01:16here's what it hears, what I spend for you to be in school,
- 1:01:21your tuition, your housing, your room, your board, your books
- 1:01:23knowing IL at the time, right? Here's the price tag for that.
- 1:01:28Now, how much are you going to spend on your therapy?
- 1:01:32How much are you going to spend, you know, to fly your
- 1:01:34chiropractor out, blah, blah, blah, blah blah, this little
- 1:01:38piddly thirty thousand dollars, they talking about, that's that
- 1:01:40bullshit. Don't you dare play yourself
- 1:01:44that way? Don't you dare?
- 1:01:48And luckily I had the trust and build up the relationship enough
- 1:01:52with her that she was able to listen to me.
- 1:01:53And that was a one-day conversation and she never
- 1:01:55thought twice about right. But because there's no
- 1:01:59collective bargaining because there's no organized floor.
- 1:02:04Our sport is probably the dirtiest grimiest Pro game.
- 1:02:09There is on the planet, it ain't the PGA it ain't it ain't it
- 1:02:16ain't none of that and if you do it wrong you might be Pro with
- 1:02:21some Nikes but you can be living on somebody's couch and that's
- 1:02:26not a joke. We I know people that have done
- 1:02:29that. Yeah.
- 1:02:30So for me, I'm just like, listen the, the tweet that Miss
- 1:02:35Johnson, put out there is a proposal.
- 1:02:37It's very true. And I hope whoever she gave that
- 1:02:40advice to chose to listen to her.
- 1:02:44I just don't, I don't like the grime Enos of what it takes to
- 1:02:49go pro and be Pro in this game. Tiana told me something once.
- 1:02:54She said in order to win a medal, that's a hundred thousand
- 1:02:58dollar investment of my money. Yep, not the salary.
- 1:03:04I'm being paid. I have to spend a hundred
- 1:03:07thousand dollars. Yes, to legitimately have a shot
- 1:03:10to win this metal or if you're going to have a team behind you.
- 1:03:14That's right. You have a right?
- 1:03:16That's right. And just everybody who's young
- 1:03:18is, considering turning pro Solutions has a whole bunch of
- 1:03:23people on his campus that, you know, we should probably be Pro
- 1:03:26Wonder Once you turn pro. All of these people who are
- 1:03:31currently your support system in theory, you got to pay them all
- 1:03:37now. Yeah, it's not it ain't sexy.
- 1:03:42So unless you have a one of these you know can't turn it
- 1:03:47down dollars, you know you really should pay attention to
- 1:03:50what you're doing in this fats. A fact of the matter is, a lot
- 1:03:52of the people that lose in this game, come from places where
- 1:03:56they never had money, never seen money.
- 1:03:57So a hundred thousand dollars looks like money.
- 1:04:00Yeah that ain't mine. Y'all got it.
- 1:04:05Okay, so my thoughts are really simple on this.
- 1:04:09Like, I think the The word that gets people in trouble.
- 1:04:13Here is Agent. See that sounds I'm a quote my
- 1:04:17man Ronnie green. That sounds real sexy, I have an
- 1:04:20agent right? Well I have an agent, I have an
- 1:04:24agency, right? But the agent of the agency,
- 1:04:29can't do anything for you unless you do something for yourself.
- 1:04:34There's not an agent on the planet that has not been made by
- 1:04:38the athletes that they are able to suck.
- 1:04:40Sign. Hmm.
- 1:04:41Okay because I'm girl that runs 52 flat get some hires an aging
- 1:04:47you're wasting your ink. Yes.
- 1:04:49Right. Because the agk do anything for
- 1:04:52you until you run 49. Mmm, right.
- 1:04:57Yeah. Because is it as you can go out
- 1:04:58there and get you? Yeah, I can get you to go to
- 1:05:00this meat. Well, you go to the meet and you
- 1:05:03let's say, you go to the meeting you win, so you win $500.
- 1:05:07Well, I don't know if it's gone. Yes, okay.
- 1:05:14And then by the time you do what you had to do, you get back.
- 1:05:16And you spent $300 and you, you know, you basically, you broke
- 1:05:20even at best at best. So, so the word agent, the word
- 1:05:25agency gets people in trouble because, again, it sounds sexy.
- 1:05:28It sounds like, hey, I made it. I have an agent, right?
- 1:05:31But I tell everybody that comes to me and talk about being a
- 1:05:34professional. You make the agent better?
- 1:05:39Based on how fast you run or how far you throw or a lot higher,
- 1:05:43higher long jump. It's not the agent makes you
- 1:05:47better. And I think that's the whole
- 1:05:49fallacy in this thing. Is that, okay, I'm going to get
- 1:05:52an agent and I'm going to do this.
- 1:05:54But then, like you said, unless you have parents or somebody
- 1:05:58that's going to fund, you you're going up sleeping on somebody's
- 1:06:02couch, trying to make this work. And which is why, you know, you
- 1:06:06stay in school, you get your degree, you know, fortunately,
- 1:06:09if you're here in Gainesville, you can still use a cold tub.
- 1:06:11If your progress Dollars hundred.
- 1:07:05Twenty thousand dollars is much more money than most people make
- 1:07:07in their first job. So they should take that
- 1:07:10contract. Now, the 30,000 contract that is
- 1:07:13Criminal against the law. Hey, I think, I think that
- 1:07:19people should be arrested for offering contracts that.
- 1:07:21Yeah, right. That's just and that's what's
- 1:07:23wrong with tracking feel like, you know, there's no there's no
- 1:07:27slots, right, right? Yeah, the business just look at
- 1:07:31what's going on right now, okay? If there's anybody with a brain,
- 1:07:35the highest paid, the two highest paid female athletes.
- 1:07:38In the next three weeks, you're going to be a be Steiner and
- 1:07:41Melissa Jefferson and neither one of them have wanted.
- 1:07:46One thing. No, not a thing.
- 1:07:50Have we not learned from what we?
- 1:07:51We just went through, with? We know with, with the other
- 1:07:54child, right? So I was like, I'm going to
- 1:07:58continue to just give money people for running a Time, okay?
- 1:08:07And, and that's, you know, but that's, that's an issue.
- 1:08:10Look, look, I think Iran night and like, most of you guys do is
- 1:08:15a phenomenal, young town, you know, but the money that was
- 1:08:19given to him. Well, he's only 16 but that's
- 1:08:22why you don't give him all the money.
- 1:08:23Yeah, you know. And so luckily, he's got a
- 1:08:27little grit to him. He wants to grind it and make
- 1:08:30movement. But just, what's ruins is sport,
- 1:08:33is that that we give these people that have done nothing,
- 1:08:36these big contracts. And then now there's no
- 1:08:39developmental system and I know we've beat this horse to death
- 1:08:41on the show before, right? That's what's killing track.
- 1:08:45I feel right now is like there is no developmental system.
- 1:08:49There's nothing. So just just to add to your
- 1:08:53point Before I Let You Go Lamar. You know, I would love To see
- 1:08:59someone track to see how many athletes actually go up in
- 1:09:05contract after their first contract in track and field.
- 1:09:12I would love for someone even if it's a conversation off the
- 1:09:17Record, you know? Hey, let's go have a beer.
- 1:09:20Let's go, let's go, let's go to this, is this chat?
- 1:09:23Okay, tell me off the Record, right?
- 1:09:26I'm doing, I'm doing my own Research here.
- 1:09:31And I don't think the audience understands what I'm saying.
- 1:09:35You all you guys doesn't less than 5% less than 5%.
- 1:09:39That is, what is wrong with our sport?
- 1:09:43Like you can use. There's so many different things
- 1:09:47but listen to what I just said, okay, there are very few
- 1:09:52athletes that do what regular professional athletes do where
- 1:09:58they get their rookie contract, right?
- 1:10:02They play to the rookie contract, they ball their butts
- 1:10:07off and then they get there. Real contract.
- 1:10:11That does not exist in track and field.
- 1:10:14Okay, so when when someone that's advising a young male,
- 1:10:20young female and says, hey, you better get everything you can
- 1:10:25get now, Okay. It's it's it's a sad situation
- 1:10:33and because we don't have a collective bargaining.
- 1:10:36We don't have a union. We don't have any of that stuff
- 1:10:40where athletes can put their foot down.
- 1:10:42And say, hey, these, this is how this should work.
- 1:10:47He's just going to continue tomorrow.
- 1:10:49Hits floor is yours. I mean there's so much to unpack
- 1:10:55so I'm going to try to unpack this succinctly and
- 1:10:58point-by-point as humanly possible.
- 1:11:01First, I think the greatest truth told out there is how far
- 1:11:09from my actual understanding of the real world, the vast
- 1:11:12majority of these young fledgling Pro / professionals.
- 1:11:18Bar look left with let's take a what I would consider.
- 1:11:24I think a good contract and track, unfortunately, because
- 1:11:28the biggest issue we all we've already beat to death.
- 1:11:30Is there is no floor, there is no league and there is no
- 1:11:34benefits involved in being a track and field athlete.
- 1:11:37But if you get 100 Grand, right? And you're and you're an
- 1:11:41American, you a hundred thousand dollars is a quality contract
- 1:11:45and the shoe company believes in you and it's got bone.
- 1:11:48Nurses and rollovers everything else in it right?
- 1:11:50Even if it's got, you know, no reductions.
- 1:11:54First of all, your agents could for that particular, but the
- 1:11:56whatever, right? The hundred grand starts out
- 1:11:59like day, one is 100 Grand, okay?
- 1:12:02So no matter how you slice it, 35 Grand of that, belongs to
- 1:12:07Uncle Sam, You should be paying your coach, something.
- 1:12:12I'm not going to go into that topic as that'll drive me crazy,
- 1:12:15and, but we'll just call it a number, right?
- 1:12:18There's some more money missing, right?
- 1:12:21And then in this world, most of these people have agents and the
- 1:12:26Agents charge and inordinate amount of money.
- 1:12:30But for easy math. Let's I mean because 15% to
- 1:12:33attract a field, agent is insane when you consider a baseball
- 1:12:36agent who actually works there, Glasses off for each client,
- 1:12:39makes five right, but let's just call it 10 percent because it's
- 1:12:43an easy number. All right, so that's turn
- 1:12:45around. No, no, no 15-15-15, right?
- 1:12:52So you're hungry because the agents actually have a union,
- 1:12:54don't they? Yes.
- 1:12:58So your hundred on day one, when Uncle Sam's done with you and
- 1:13:02the agent is done with you. The hundred is 50.
- 1:13:06Okay. That's, that's off tops.
- 1:13:08Now, you got you should be paying your coach, whatever that
- 1:13:11is right now. You have to assemble your team.
- 1:13:16So whether you can figure out how to get these things free or
- 1:13:20not is up to your mouthpiece. And and what kind of person you
- 1:13:25were when you were on the college campus, if you Burning
- 1:13:28Bridges or you know, or whether the shoe company picked you up
- 1:13:31and move you somewhere, but at the end of the day, you're going
- 1:13:33to have to pay for physio. Massage therapist chiropractor.
- 1:13:40Facts can't do this sport without those three things every
- 1:13:44week, right? Everything, right, so, so so
- 1:13:48that's going to cost you where I'll be kind and say that's
- 1:13:53going to cost you ten Grand, right?
- 1:13:57So at the end of the day, your hundred thousand dollar
- 1:13:59contract, like, don't call it, a hundred, call it 40, right?
- 1:14:05Because what you have to work with is 40, Right.
- 1:14:10And so what you really need to consider and I said I've been
- 1:14:12saying this for two decades. Track and field is the hardest
- 1:14:15sport in the world to be to be a professional.
- 1:14:19In and you really have to consider whether that's the life
- 1:14:23you want, whether the pursuit of World Championships Olympic
- 1:14:28Olympic championships and, and Records is worth it to you.
- 1:14:33Because if it is, then it is right.
- 1:14:36But if it isn't It's actually understandable, right?
- 1:14:41It's actually understandable, but it speaks to what I think.
- 1:14:45We finally put numbers to what I've been saying about.
- 1:14:47The fact that there is no League, there is no bottom and
- 1:14:50there's no professionality to the sport of track and field
- 1:14:53because all of that, that we just said, is not explained to
- 1:14:57collegians, as they're sitting down with agents.
- 1:15:00After the NCAA meat because we know we're not breaking any
- 1:15:03rules and and shoe companies are throwing money at them.
- 1:15:08Right, like they did look when you're when you're a broke
- 1:15:11college. Kid 100 grand.
- 1:15:14Sounds like a ton of money. Yeah.
- 1:15:15And it is but but all of us who've done adulting understand
- 1:15:20what 100 Grand really means, right?
- 1:15:23Like, you don't get that whole hundred, right?
- 1:15:27Right CCC. And these are, these are real
- 1:15:29conversations, right? Like agent contacts athlete
- 1:15:35athlete's says, I need you to sit down this - to my coach.
- 1:15:39Agent says, I am going to charge set athlete 20% of everything
- 1:15:46she artist. My response is why, right?
- 1:15:51Agents responses, because I need to pick up the, I'm going to be
- 1:15:54the one negotiating it in said athlete into meats and I said,
- 1:15:59okay. But why 20%?
- 1:16:02Because you can't pick up the phone until said athlete
- 1:16:07performs at a high level. So you want to take the number
- 1:16:12of agents that have said to me when so and so with me they were
- 1:16:17rolling. Right?
- 1:16:20So every time an agent says is to me please excuse, my French
- 1:16:24Micah. If you are watching, what in the
- 1:16:27fuck did you have to do with this person running fast?
- 1:16:32Right? So please help me here.
- 1:16:36They were rolling when they were with you because the coach and
- 1:16:38the athlete or out in the Sun, every day busting it but getting
- 1:16:42athlete, to win high level. Right.
- 1:16:45It's just it's criminal. Yeah it's criminal.
- 1:16:49And and so and it is because the vast majority of them don't do
- 1:16:53the they don't do the tough agent work which is all the
- 1:16:57stuff, all of the off the track money for athletes, right?
- 1:17:03Like we don't see a whole bunch of track and field athletes at a
- 1:17:05whole bunch of commercials, right?
- 1:17:08That's because that's really hard to do right?
- 1:17:12Is yours. Coral and Jackie.
- 1:17:16Yeah, Sid bright. Like it's not actually that hard
- 1:17:20to Market, Sid. She's young, good looking at his
- 1:17:23one, everything, right? Like that's that's not tough.
- 1:17:27That those you're answering phone calls.
- 1:17:28Not making phone calls. Hmm.
- 1:17:32And I also think 20% of that go ahead and take it.
- 1:17:36Yeah. Right.
- 1:17:37You don't get CNN. And that is exactly.
- 1:17:41And that's my thing is like, okay, we have to find a way to
- 1:17:46help the development of athlete. We have to find, okay.
- 1:17:50That in my opinion is, what's wrong with the launcher in this
- 1:17:53country because they don't make any money.
- 1:17:55Yeah, don't so say, don't, they can't afford to be jumpers,
- 1:18:01right? So if you find a way to get them
- 1:18:04money off the track, then then they'll be able to perform
- 1:18:07better on it and then they can get the bigger contract.
- 1:18:11But everything is so skewed a minute in Legend said it earlier
- 1:18:14like the sprinters get all money.
- 1:18:17Yeah. Right is he I have said it in
- 1:18:19and you know kind of quietly but you can make it.
- 1:18:21You can send put your chest into a dog.
- 1:18:26It's it's true and I agree completely with Tiana.
- 1:18:32I tell you a metal is going to cost you.
- 1:18:36You can't do it any cheaper than twenty thousand dollars.
- 1:18:40It's going to cost you at least 20,000 dollars of your own money
- 1:18:44to win a medal. Yeah.
- 1:18:47Right? If you have to, if that involves
- 1:18:51an international stay, that's probably double.
- 1:18:54Mmm, right? I can tell you like my bronze
- 1:18:57medal, definitely cost more than 20 because I had to write a
- 1:19:01check for ten thousand dollars for us in in Sydney before I
- 1:19:05ever made the team, right? So like at the end and that
- 1:19:10wasn't for me, like that was for Coach coach physio chiropractor
- 1:19:14family. Right?
- 1:19:16So at the end of the day like, you know, like all of these
- 1:19:19things cost, a tremendous it look, it cost a lot to be a
- 1:19:22professional athlete, but football players and basketball
- 1:19:26players. Baseball players, make a whole
- 1:19:27lot more money. Rights of.
- 1:19:31So they can pay all of those bills, but it isn't very
- 1:19:34expensive to be a professional athlete, which is why they make
- 1:19:36a lot of money in theory. So, a couple of things that I've
- 1:19:42been holding on to one, not only are the agents and and this is
- 1:19:46in having conversations with Lyndon at this point in
- 1:19:51conversations of the exiting. You know, fifth-year seniors
- 1:19:54that I've been able to be around this year and just being with
- 1:19:57this group, the agents are just as much the demise of the
- 1:20:01athlete because they of the limitations they said among
- 1:20:05themselves like, oh that meets not good enough for you so
- 1:20:08you're not going to go there or that.
- 1:20:10It's not good enough for you so you're not going to go there
- 1:20:12without without actually communicating.
- 1:20:14So as much as they're trying to one up for themselves, like they
- 1:20:18are actually the demise of the athlete on top of not even
- 1:20:21helping mathlete at times. I feel and then to, oh dang
- 1:20:29we're just talking, I already lost thought, damn it.
- 1:20:34Well let me say this and maybe this will spark something in
- 1:20:38living make remember your part, right?
- 1:20:40Right. The biggest problem with the
- 1:20:41agency, a just need to be agents.
- 1:20:44They want to be coaches, they want to be therapist, they want
- 1:20:48to be everything, but what they are your job is to get track
- 1:20:51meets, your job is to negotiate a contract, not to tell people
- 1:20:54what events are run, not to couple how to manage the events.
- 1:20:57Have some people, how to do anything to do with track and
- 1:21:00field, do your jobs. So, the agent is sitting with
- 1:21:04the athlete, you know, well, you know, you need to tell your
- 1:21:07coach need to do more of this. You tell you guys can do more of
- 1:21:10that. So my response is always okay.
- 1:21:13I'm going to call it deters tomorrow and tell me that they
- 1:21:15needed help book. How would that make you feel?
- 1:21:18Well coach, why would you do that then?
- 1:21:20Why are you trying to tell them what they should be running?
- 1:21:22Hmm, because clearly I did my job to get them where they are
- 1:21:27and you thought I was good enough to do that.
- 1:21:28So let me do my job and the agent until the agents really
- 1:21:33are gotten under control track is never going to get any
- 1:21:36better. It can't Because and I've said
- 1:21:40this track and field coach of the biggest prostitutes on the
- 1:21:43planet, we work our butts off every day.
- 1:21:49Somebody else to get 20% of what of our work.
- 1:21:54And I'm gonna get off that soapbox because big lie.
- 1:22:09The earnings that's even inflated, right?
- 1:22:12Because if you're not a top Premier like one or two
- 1:22:15Sprinter, it's minimal at that and you know I had to burst a
- 1:22:20bubble need. Knowing the least amount of
- 1:22:23this. This group here, experience or
- 1:22:25knowledge wise had to break burst of Bubbles and athlete.
- 1:22:28Like we were talking and he was like, okay, well, you know, if I
- 1:22:32do this I think I can get this and I was like, yep.
- 1:22:34Nope. I'ma let you know now because
- 1:22:38you're going to sign for less and what you're going to lose
- 1:22:41very off. Cops is your health insurance
- 1:22:45because you don't have health insurance, that right there cost
- 1:22:49way more than anything else. You know, I feel that a phone
- 1:22:52call today, you know, I need to know who's taking summer courses
- 1:22:56because if they're not taking summer courses, their insurance
- 1:22:58is done. And that literally hurt my heart
- 1:23:01for the athletes who I know like had thought about that yet.
- 1:23:04Yep. And so like man, these are the
- 1:23:07conversations and poopoo on the agents who are not bringing that
- 1:23:11to light who are razzle-dazzle thing with these five thousand
- 1:23:15dollar contracts agreement with these brand sponsors is it'll
- 1:23:19neighbors and then you know the athletes light up because the
- 1:23:22like oh well I'm going to get a small kid or a pair of
- 1:23:26sunglasses or get to wear this. Brand name with me, whatever it
- 1:23:30might be, whether it's Whataburger in and out.
- 1:23:32Whatever, like know your ni Ells way better than that, because
- 1:23:37you're not going to have to pay a percentage.
- 1:23:39You didn't have to pay an agent for it and they can to you, you
- 1:23:42did nothing. Yeah, you know, on this group
- 1:23:45text that we have we've talked about open doors and I'm pushing
- 1:23:48open doors to everybody that I can push it to because it
- 1:23:52literally does the work for you. So anyways, that is my soapbox
- 1:23:57on that mr. Victor is there anything that
- 1:24:00you wanted to highlight before we allow you to rest?
- 1:24:03Before we kill you two are Buster but tomorrow and talk to
- 1:24:05you. Now, you know why?
- 1:24:26We would love to have you. All right.
- 1:24:52Sir, will you enjoy the rest of your day and get some rest?
- 1:24:56I see you guys in the morning. Yes sir.
- 1:24:58Good night my buddy. Good night sir.
- 1:25:05I want us to move on, but I want to say, I want to say something
- 1:25:08cuz I think that the rest of the world should understand this in
- 1:25:12in the sport of baseball, All baseball agents, make 5%.
- 1:25:20We are capped at 5%. Okay.
- 1:25:23I have been a baseball agent for three seasons and Scott boras
- 1:25:33has done. Like I think I want to say it's
- 1:25:39like you know forty or fifty billion dollars worth of
- 1:25:42business. Some nonsense, it's a giant
- 1:25:43number right? But we both get paid 5%.
- 1:25:48That's what is cap that So it doesn't matter that he has the
- 1:25:53best athletes and I have burgeoning athletes, right?
- 1:25:57But in but in the sport of track and field like who you have in
- 1:26:02some of these agents worlds, like justifies them.
- 1:26:04Getting paid more. Yeah.
- 1:26:06In their minds, right? Or I mean I kill it.
- 1:26:09I can't even say like, it's not even there - because they get
- 1:26:11it, maybe not from everybody but they do get it.
- 1:26:13And and I and listen, I look I'm not anti agent obviously, I am
- 1:26:17one but I will say even when I was an athlete right, like
- 1:26:24Probably ninety percent of the people in track and field.
- 1:26:27Don't need an agent. No.
- 1:26:30And, and that's why, that's why the ones who are smart enough to
- 1:26:35figure that out. You know, for example, when
- 1:26:38Alison became Allison, the first thing she did was damn all that
- 1:26:42my brother's my age. Hmm?
- 1:26:45Right. Sonia Richards had her mom as
- 1:26:47her agent. Yep.
- 1:26:48Right. Because they figured out like
- 1:26:50actually, what am I paying these people for you and the funny
- 1:26:55thing I always tell people about the out, the whole Allison
- 1:26:58situation is too. A West Felix is one of the
- 1:27:01bigger better agents in the game, right?
- 1:27:04But he wouldn't be if not for Allison putting him on.
- 1:27:09Yeah. Right.
- 1:27:11Like, you got to manage Allison. So these other doors opened up
- 1:27:14to you. It's always about the athletes
- 1:27:17in this business, you know? Yeah, it is.
- 1:27:22It's very, you know, we've said this a bunch of times but it is
- 1:27:25amazing. Like the amount of money
- 1:27:27generated in the sport and how little of it is Actually, an
- 1:27:29athlete answer. It's actually amazing.
- 1:27:33It's in everyone else's next to, I know, let's move on all
- 1:27:41things. USA championships.
- 1:27:44So in that, you know, we want to highlight what happened.
- 1:27:47Obviously the results of it because we're doing USA
- 1:27:51championships can't can we get another tweet read?
- 1:27:54Can we get the, can we get the Dwight Phillips tweet?
- 1:27:57Yeah, so that's why I was getting there.
- 1:27:59I was laying the table, I laid the table and now here's your
- 1:28:02appetizer. So there was the comment the
- 1:28:07tweet in question. Sorry.
- 1:28:09I'm not going to pull it out fast enough.
- 1:28:11I pulled up the wrong phone thing.
- 1:28:12It if somebody beats. Triple free.
- 1:28:16But there was a comment made about and as it's been made, you
- 1:28:20know what I mean. The stadium is not as full as
- 1:28:25projected. What's the problem I've seen it?
- 1:28:29You know? I'm now part of the cool kids
- 1:28:31club. I'm part of mr.
- 1:28:34Drummond's. Group that he alluded to it took
- 1:28:37like four months to get the invitation but I'm now in and so
- 1:28:40now I see the flurry that you all were talking about at that
- 1:28:42point, you know, is organ what it really is?
- 1:28:47And they said this, what was it at pre about just Why are people
- 1:28:53not showing up and so well that I don't think that was the one I
- 1:28:58was making reference to. But if you want to talk about
- 1:29:00the attendant, you know, oh no. Well, let me, let me repeat
- 1:29:04that. Let me read the tweet that you
- 1:29:05wanted real quick. I'll just think.
- 1:29:07I'm sorry, USA. For USA's the flights to Eugene
- 1:29:11was, were eleven hundred dollars to fifteen hundred dollars.
- 1:29:15By the time you get a hotel for two or three days.
- 1:29:17That's another K Rental Car, $300 food, hundred dollars.
- 1:29:21Now you're looking at between twenty two hundred and three
- 1:29:23thousand dollars College. Athletes have a have a major
- 1:29:26Edge, only the top Echelon of prose and that was in cat that
- 1:29:30was in quotes which I dude like can afford the trip.
- 1:29:37That's that's the Tweet. First part of attendance, my
- 1:29:41apologies, I let off wrong. Governor.
- 1:29:52It follows the same. I mean we talked about it.
- 1:30:01You. if you don't have, A sizable contract with bonuses.
- 1:30:11Travel, you know, all the Clauses, you can think of.
- 1:30:16When you think about what an athlete has to pay for, okay?
- 1:30:22You are literally paying to go to the championship.
- 1:30:25You are paying money. To take care of yourself.
- 1:30:32If you have the wherewithal to take care of your coach, you are
- 1:30:37paying for that. You paying for transportation.
- 1:30:40When you get there okay you're paying for food, all of these
- 1:30:47things have a price tag. Right?
- 1:30:52So, you know, while you're in it you know and Lamar you know
- 1:30:58we've been there, right? You're not thinking about
- 1:31:02sticker shock. You're not thinking about the
- 1:31:08fact that by the time you leave Eugene and go back home, you
- 1:31:12easily could have spent three to four thousand dollars of your
- 1:31:15own money. You're not thinking about that
- 1:31:19because your eyes on the prize, right?
- 1:31:23You're going there because you want to be USA champion, you
- 1:31:27going in there, because if you don't go there, there is no
- 1:31:30World Championships. There is no rules.
- 1:31:35There is no pan am's. There's none of that.
- 1:31:38You have to go, okay? But for the ones that don't have
- 1:31:44that money, that is a massive dent in their income.
- 1:31:50All right. Okay, now I'll take it one step
- 1:31:54further. What is the prize money at
- 1:31:57USA's? What does the winner get eight
- 1:32:02thousand dollars? It's eight thousand dollars for
- 1:32:06the champ. Wow.
- 1:32:07Yeah, okay. Just so we're clear.
- 1:32:10It's eight thousand dollars now. Yes, you would.
- 1:32:13When you and I were competing. It was a medal.
- 1:32:15It was a metal. It was a pat on the back.
- 1:32:19Hey, great job. You know and so that's that is
- 1:32:25that is fact that it's a fact. It's really, it's really 6400.
- 1:32:32There you go. Yes I mean you know what and
- 1:32:38Uncle Sam still gives. Okay, first of all let me say a
- 1:32:45semi pro athlete with an agent and you somehow allow your agent
- 1:32:49to take 50. In percent of your prize.
- 1:32:51Money foam is a gracious last. Whoops speaking but wait a
- 1:32:59minute, the go We all respect the athletic.
- 1:33:09Career of mr. Dwight things.
- 1:33:14This tweet is one of these things where it's like it's
- 1:33:18factual, but the context is all backwards.
- 1:33:23Because here's the here's my issue.
- 1:33:25First of all that sounds like a you problem.
- 1:33:28Secondly, the fact that you through Eugene in there as if if
- 1:33:32the meat was in LA or if it was in Des Moines or if it was in
- 1:33:36Austin, you won't going to spend that same money, you're lying.
- 1:33:40What it is isn't that just saying, right?
- 1:33:42So unless the meat is in Atlanta, you gotta go, I guess
- 1:33:45the whites not, right? So it's it feels like a lot of
- 1:33:50whining. And, you know, if you choose
- 1:33:53this profession, you know, figure it out.
- 1:33:56Now, we all have to know don't second proposal ones I can chew
- 1:34:00while you watch Clyde is continuing, this will you please
- 1:34:05pull up the results of the women's lingerie?
- 1:34:07Yeah. Great question, please.
- 1:34:10Yes, please. Yeah.
- 1:34:11Okay. Glad and so you know listen we
- 1:34:15all agree that the governing body could do more could I could
- 1:34:21do a better job of supporting said athletes.
- 1:34:25There are stipends if you're ranked high enough to help you
- 1:34:29with your travel and all of that.
- 1:34:31But those programs are impotent at best and they could do more,
- 1:34:36but shut up or stay home is how I felt when I saw that to me,
- 1:34:42like, I'm just, I'm not feeling that, uh, on like, it very
- 1:34:45whiny. You know, run faster, jump
- 1:34:49higher, throw farther, figure it out.
- 1:34:58So okay, I guess I'll just continue from whence I last
- 1:35:01spoke right. Like Being a professional track.
- 1:35:06Athlete is the hardest thing in the world to do in professional
- 1:35:10sports, right? And there's a cost to doing
- 1:35:15business. Yeah.
- 1:35:17You don't get to complain about where the meat is, right?
- 1:35:21Like my, I got because I was an American.
- 1:35:27I got my housing comp for my mom and my dad when the Olympics was
- 1:35:32in Atlanta, When we went to Sydney Australia.
- 1:35:37Nothing was caught without even a bottle of water right there.
- 1:35:42It just is what it is. So you don't like, look, I you
- 1:35:46get to complain about a lot of things in track.
- 1:35:48You don't get to complain about the cost of your US
- 1:35:50championships. That one I gotta go.
- 1:35:53I gotta go away from but but I I do, I do want to say this and
- 1:35:59I'm probably going to sound a lot like an elitist.
- 1:36:01I'm actually not. I'm a factual list on this.
- 1:36:05If you aren't making enough money in the sport of track and
- 1:36:10field to pay your coach first, you should be doing something
- 1:36:16else. I'm a dad.
- 1:36:23Because here's the problem. The government is taking their
- 1:36:27money and the agent gets the money before you do.
- 1:36:30So, they're taking, there's two, right?
- 1:36:33But your coach and you are the ones in the trenches, getting
- 1:36:37the performances. So, if you don't get that, you
- 1:36:41also on day, one should be paying your coach.
- 1:36:45I'm not going to tell you what to pay them because that's
- 1:36:48negotiable. Right.
- 1:36:50But by all means, if you Get that you should pay your coach
- 1:36:57first. If your coach says nah I'm not
- 1:36:59taking your money, that's his or her business.
- 1:37:02Okay. But if you're not, if your first
- 1:37:06thought is not to pay your coach, You shouldn't be doing
- 1:37:11track. Because professional track is
- 1:37:14incredibly time-consuming. Yep.
- 1:37:19Right. I co-coach one athlete.
- 1:37:24And that is no less than 15 hours a week.
- 1:37:32That's the small that I've had. These discussions with that
- 1:37:35weeds, you're going to get the well.
- 1:37:39You see track and field since you this amount of money, Or,
- 1:37:43you know, why should I have to pay you?
- 1:37:45I'm the one out here, running, okay?
- 1:37:48But you pay your agent. Right.
- 1:37:51You and, you know, I'm gonna say this before Clyde says it when
- 1:37:58it comes to my pay scale. There's a first world problem
- 1:38:00here. I pay you what I make for our
- 1:38:03University of Florida. You can't afford me, right?
- 1:38:07And so in our kindness of my heart a lot of times I don't
- 1:38:09charge people but you know hey coach.
- 1:38:13Can I buy you a smoothie today coach?
- 1:38:15Let me bring you lunch every now and then you know that goes a
- 1:38:18long way you know it shows you Of the persons that are busting
- 1:38:21their butt, so you can make electric and so your agent can
- 1:38:25buy a new car. You can chase your dreams,
- 1:38:27they're not your coaches dreams, see your that's this is this is
- 1:38:30the other thing that professional track athletes.
- 1:38:32Don't get like, look, almost all of the people coaching you are
- 1:38:36college, work, war, or our college coaches, right?
- 1:38:39That's their job, great. And we chase that dream
- 1:38:44together, but when you graduate these are now your dreams, hmm.
- 1:38:50They're not mine, they're not, they're not coach always right?
- 1:38:53They're not Coach shoes. Like these are your dreams that
- 1:38:57you want me to help you get. I got no problem with it.
- 1:39:01I got no problem with it. Like, I look, I signed on for
- 1:39:04the job, I signed on for, but I just want people to understand,
- 1:39:09right? Like, it's ludicrous that people
- 1:39:12like balk at the idea of paying their coaches.
- 1:39:16I'm just like, so how you gonna get there?
- 1:39:20Mmm, Right? Like if you where where does he
- 1:39:25mean? Where does your team begin?
- 1:39:28Yeah, yeah. Petit, point point point, I do,
- 1:39:41I know it's not going to say is, you know, I've heard a
- 1:39:45half-witted. Very snide, not snide a ignorant
- 1:39:51and and I'll call it ignorant because they didn't, they didn't
- 1:39:54know better comment as well. I didn't pay the coach when I
- 1:39:59was running for them under the as the University.
- 1:40:02No, you were the employee, get it right?
- 1:40:05That was your boss. Now, guess what?
- 1:40:08The tables have turned your the quote-unquote boss.
- 1:40:12And you pay your employee. You know, to put it in a very
- 1:40:16simple term like that's how it has to be understood.
- 1:40:20You have a payroll now that you must manage because you are the
- 1:40:24entity because if you're wise as a professional athlete you are
- 1:40:28an LLC Like break it down. Simply you are the business.
- 1:40:35So anyways I have said, result pulled up.
- 1:40:38Yes, sir. What what may I reference for
- 1:40:40you? Just read them all people had
- 1:40:44marks. People and affiliations
- 1:40:49affiliations coming in the top finisher for the women's long
- 1:40:53jump at USA championships was kaneesha Brooks, who is
- 1:40:57unattached no affiliation, Jasmine more Florida, Tiffany
- 1:41:02Flynn unattached Monet Nichols, Texas Tech, Kate halls with
- 1:41:06Asics Shakila Sanders. Sorry is with Adidas.
- 1:41:11She finished sixth Claire Bryant is seventh.
- 1:41:15From Florida and a Hall 8 from Florida who Jack make you going?
- 1:41:21No, okay. And I'm gonna just let me that's
- 1:41:25it there. Um, so but I do want to address
- 1:41:30race take and the fact that Collision should not be able to
- 1:41:35be able to compete in these championships because they're
- 1:41:37not professionals. Yes.
- 1:41:39Can we please get into that? I love that up there for you
- 1:41:44sir. Have at it.
- 1:41:48Again, right, sir, I can't even get my brain around that one.
- 1:42:00That is Bitchassness at Epic Level so you're telling me my
- 1:42:11job Crow track athlete. Whoo, I have a contract or not
- 1:42:18but I am a pro. And I am in Eugene Oregon or Des
- 1:42:22Moines Iowa, wherever the hell I'm at.
- 1:42:25My job is to make this tea and since I can't beat the children,
- 1:42:32Ray's take is telling me that the, the answer to me, not being
- 1:42:37able to beat the children, is eliminate the children from the
- 1:42:39competition, but we want trophy culture.
- 1:42:43And like, what, what it, what is that?
- 1:42:46We want to make Teen USA weaker because the pros can't beat the
- 1:42:50kids. That's what we want.
- 1:42:54How can you even as a pro? How can you feel good about
- 1:42:57that? Let us also take into account
- 1:43:00that half of the pros were. Once the kids, they were beating
- 1:43:04the mass of course, I mean. Yes, there's there's hypocrisy
- 1:43:08in that, of course, but I'm just saying if we instituted that
- 1:43:12rule right now, go look at the Team USA that we have right now.
- 1:43:17And then tomorrow, we're going to take out the collegians that
- 1:43:20team. Just got a hell of a lot worse
- 1:43:21on all 19 of them, right? Yeah.
- 1:43:25It's like wait a hell of a lot worse.
- 1:43:27It got hell of a lot smaller because there's almost no events
- 1:43:30that don't have a Collegiate on the roster, it's or well.
- 1:43:33But in theory, you know, the next lame Semi-Pro would be
- 1:43:36elevated up into the team, right?
- 1:43:38Like what? But they got to have the
- 1:43:40standards. Well, as most of the people
- 1:43:43don't have the standards, Legitimate shot to get a medal
- 1:43:59in the women's 100. According to raise, take
- 1:44:01shouldn't be allowed in the meat because she runs for Coastal
- 1:44:04Carolina, talking about and she supposed to give up her
- 1:44:09scholarship before the meat. When she's not the US champion
- 1:44:15when she's, when she just got last at the NCAA.
- 1:44:18She supposed to give up her future at her school.
- 1:44:21He and little we all know even a ray likes to stir up, stuff.
- 1:44:26Ladies remember, Bird that he took somebody spot when he was a
- 1:44:29college guy. Stop it.
- 1:44:30Ray. So you know, listen, I'm not
- 1:45:01here for that. That is utter nonsense.
- 1:45:04That is utterly this many times that's nonsense.
- 1:45:08Yeah, we're going to spend time on that at all because the end
- 1:45:12of the day, the rules say, they can come with the job, USA,
- 1:45:17Track and Field job is to put the best team out there possible
- 1:45:20and that's what they did. And so we will continue to do
- 1:45:22that. And and again, I think Ray likes
- 1:45:25to stir up stuff. He can be very funny.
- 1:45:27Very comical when he wants to be.
- 1:45:29And I think that knowing raised probably try to be funny on
- 1:45:32this. So, Cuz I know for sure when
- 1:45:35that Jew was in college, he was not trying to say well I can't
- 1:45:38go because I want to take nobody's fight.
- 1:45:40I promise you that right? And you know as a competitor
- 1:45:43that do was cut through a personal shot at the man, I'm
- 1:45:47taking a shot at the take the take.
- 1:45:50Exactly is nonsense. But USA yes more of USA's I mean
- 1:46:02you said it already so much Melissa Jefferson.
- 1:46:07I mean yeah, okay so and I've shared this with the p, I'm
- 1:46:14sitting in the medical tent the day after the woman's hundred
- 1:46:20and you know, I've gotten to know Melissa, you know, for her
- 1:46:23coming to meet her, she pops it to me.
- 1:46:24Coach. I was a girl.
- 1:46:26Congratulations. I was like, can I, can I ask you
- 1:46:29a question? She's like, sure, like what was
- 1:46:31going on two weeks ago? Like it, you know, and she said,
- 1:46:35obviously coach, I put so much effort into trying to get the
- 1:46:40real and to the final. It just took my legs.
- 1:46:44He said, I just like she's always just done after the fall.
- 1:46:46I want like I just couldn't get myself back together.
- 1:46:49You know, she said I came here, you know, we did, we did we did
- 1:46:52some we did things right getting me here.
- 1:46:54No, for my I won my electric. It was like, okay, yeah, that's
- 1:46:58right. And talk about somebody that was
- 1:47:00just over the top happy. Yeah.
- 1:47:04She just, she was just, she was generally just oh, my God, I
- 1:47:07can't believe I did this. And for those of you who don't
- 1:47:10know her, if you're either chance to talk to her, please do
- 1:47:15special. Young lady.
- 1:47:16She's Not Just A Gifted athlete. She's a special human being just
- 1:47:19incredible, you know, incredible early.
- 1:47:22So I can You know. I've kind of gone through the
- 1:47:30numbers. Okay.
- 1:47:31And I probably haven't, you know, gotten everything.
- 1:47:36But we witnessed this past week, this past weekend, the number,
- 1:47:44600 meters of all time, on the men's side.
- 1:47:48The number two all-time shot. Put number two, all-time.
- 1:47:55The number eight all time 400-meter run by Michael Norman
- 1:48:00the number eight all time. 400 hurdles.
- 1:48:03Bye mr. Benjamin the number 12, all time
- 1:48:06200 meter race. Okay.
- 1:48:10The number 19 all-time women's 200.
- 1:48:13The world record in the 400-meter hurdles, the number
- 1:48:1910, 100 hurdles of all time 1234, okay?
- 1:48:26And then you sprinkle it with a little bit of Miss Jefferson,
- 1:48:29you know. Where did that come from 1069,
- 1:48:332.9 or not? That is insane it.
- 1:48:37So let's just let's go behind Miss Jefferson.
- 1:48:41Illya Hobbs 1071, come TT, Terry 1077.
- 1:48:47And look, maybe the performance of the meat, based on what
- 1:48:51happened, William, who was about, to be what I want to
- 1:48:53whatever happened to this tomorrow.
- 1:48:54Davis rent 278. Yes, it was for, which, which is
- 1:48:59why, which is why the women's hundred meter competition.
- 1:49:05Is one of the, my favorite competitions that I've seen in
- 1:49:08years and y'all can say whatever it is.
- 1:49:12USA championships. 2022, proved one of the exposed I should say,
- 1:49:20one of the biggest lies that we've been forced to choke on
- 1:49:25for the past couple years. We don't need the sideshow.
- 1:49:31Hmm, the sport is just fine. Without the sideshow the women's
- 1:49:36hundred meter future is just fine without the sideshow and
- 1:49:42Miss Jefferson is much more worthy of the face of the, women
- 1:49:49short, Sprint's then others, who disrespect the platform and the
- 1:49:55people running it. So all that energy, I want to
- 1:50:00see Billboards of Miss Jefferson.
- 1:50:02I want to see people get behind her.
- 1:50:04I want to see promotion, and if anybody in our sport earned, a
- 1:50:07raise this year. Carl Goodman.
- 1:50:10Congrats on he named it. Associate head coach at Coastal
- 1:50:14Carolina because that team right there is worthy of all the
- 1:50:19attention. Like the tomorrow is still a
- 1:50:22kid. TT is a is a rookie 18.
- 1:50:25She's 19 years old, right? He sees real Combat.
- 1:50:28Okay so let's do like let's leave the sideshow stuff.
- 1:50:42One. Yeah, that anything and we don't
- 1:50:46need to go delving into the 200 to find it.
- 1:50:49You do not. We absolutely do not.
- 1:50:53I know you want to but you okay look if you want to do that but
- 1:50:58it look if it's me in this case those four can get it done.
- 1:51:03Yeah. They know there's a special one
- 1:51:07in 200. Well, I'm not discounting what
- 1:51:09that young lady does, but I'm telling you those four can get
- 1:51:12it done. Absolutely.
- 1:51:15I don't, I don't disagree that. They I don't disagree that in
- 1:51:18theory on foot speed or on a second and in theory, they're
- 1:51:23all faster than people that you are anyway.
- 1:51:25Some again, you you asked me not to go down that path.
- 1:51:31I'm not gonna open that can of worms.
- 1:51:34I would be where I step out on either relay without Abby
- 1:51:38Steiner on the track and I'll leave it there but my Overkill
- 1:51:42because because, you know what, because you're a fan and I
- 1:51:44appreciate that nosy. No, no, listen, you watch it,
- 1:51:47listen to me now. See all I will tell you is this
- 1:51:51it's a great story and you like the story you've always liked
- 1:51:54the little guy in the story in the back story and all that
- 1:51:57stuff, okay? But if the four of them can
- 1:52:01exchange the Baton, the four of them should be Be on the track
- 1:52:06and when it comes to the 4x4, I'm not sure what delusional
- 1:52:10world, everybody is, she is not one of the four fast as
- 1:52:13Americans and the forehead even on the fly.
- 1:52:16So stop it Lamar. No, I want Lamar, I want you to
- 1:52:24notice that I'm trying to get off of that and trying to needle
- 1:52:27me into it. You almost, I did not.
- 1:52:35I thought about the relay in a, you brought the 4x4.
- 1:52:37I don't bring it forward for you.
- 1:52:38You don't know me and you knew so the facility need legal down
- 1:52:44here. This is, this is, this is my
- 1:52:48this is my USA wrap up in a nutshell and when it comes to
- 1:52:52the wind and I'm really really serious about this.
- 1:52:55We all have you know went on rants about how bad of a job we
- 1:53:01do promoting our sport right now, right now our sport on the
- 1:53:08women's side and from the American perspective is giving
- 1:53:13us Melissa Jefferson. Nothing MO.
- 1:53:18Sydney McLaughlin and Abby Steiner right now and there are
- 1:53:22others you know, we understand. You know that that added that
- 1:53:27Gabby had a rough mean she was dealing with an injury but Gabi
- 1:53:30is absolutely one of the people that should be promoted at the
- 1:53:32highest level of our sport. Given everything that she has
- 1:53:35accomplished. Yes, and everything that she is,
- 1:53:38right? Because of the way she handles
- 1:53:40her business. Yes.
- 1:53:42Yeah. Class personifies personified,
- 1:53:45studying medicine to help our community.
- 1:53:48Yep. Okay, there are so many great
- 1:53:53faces that belong on billboards and we got to see them all and
- 1:53:58they're all young, none of them are old.
- 1:54:01We all due respect to Allison, Allison's out the door like that
- 1:54:06we've run that train as far as we can run it.
- 1:54:09It's time to pick these women up and make them the faces and tell
- 1:54:14their stories and prop them up, and make sure they get paid Make
- 1:54:18sure they don't fall down the rabbit hole of the sport because
- 1:54:21they're all right here, they're all right now and they're off
- 1:54:23and on those five right there. I mean you could do you could
- 1:54:28throw in the for ladies that are currently world leaders in the
- 1:54:31fourth throwing events and just put them on a billboard because
- 1:54:35it because here's the thing, like we all agree like that's
- 1:54:37not going to happen. Very, very often if ever again.
- 1:54:41So as a marketer of our sport, like when you have those
- 1:54:44opportunities, you take that opportunity, right?
- 1:54:48Going into Worlds, it's true. Right.
- 1:54:52Somebody tell the rest of the world that it's true.
- 1:54:55Not us were attract heads. We find out all this stuff,
- 1:54:58right? It's a cool thing right now and
- 1:55:01it's not April. When that happens normally write
- 1:55:03like, we mean everybody's everybody's championships have
- 1:55:07happened and and the sport is, I couldn't say it any better than
- 1:55:12any of you guys have said, like the sport is in a great spot.
- 1:55:16Yes, and absolute great spot. To be my kids are all loaded if
- 1:55:23you will, the kids are all right.
- 1:55:25But listen, if we go back, if we go back before last year's
- 1:55:33trials, I said that we were going to send the youngest team
- 1:55:39to the Olympics that we had sent 626 into 6018.
- 1:55:44But what was most important was that we had to keep them in the
- 1:55:48sport so that we could Deuce, some level of world domination
- 1:55:53for this five-year run because you can't experience any free,
- 1:55:59right? Like I was super duper excited.
- 1:56:01That Devon Harris and made the team so that he can go to
- 1:56:05another championship. Yes, in a row.
- 1:56:08Yeah, right. Like, because we all know they
- 1:56:12never get easy but it definitely is easier to compete at a major
- 1:56:16championship when you've been to one before.
- 1:56:20It's definitely easier. the one of the more amazing and
- 1:56:34tragically sad stories from this weekend, that I'm sure a lot of
- 1:56:37people aren't aware of yet, but it is out there in the public
- 1:56:41sphere now Devin Allen made the hundred meter. 100 meter 110
- 1:56:46hurdle team. Dealing with the death of his
- 1:56:50father in between the two rounds.
- 1:56:54I think about that. Man lost his father right before
- 1:56:57or right after the semi-final and had to come back and step
- 1:57:01out there racing was, was it was it in between the rounds of was
- 1:57:04it the night before but I've heard I've heard both stories.
- 1:57:07I was told it was on the day of the same either way.
- 1:57:10I mean yeah yeah I've been I'm not gonna discount vinyl I was
- 1:57:22told that by his Old Coach, the guy was with last year at this
- 1:57:26time. Yeah.
- 1:57:27That he got a text from the mom saying that the dad had passed
- 1:57:30the night before. Hmm.
- 1:57:33Well, either way, I mean, first of all, condolences to Devon and
- 1:57:36obviously the rest of it is absolutely yes.
- 1:57:38Oh yeah. But imagine the mental
- 1:57:43fortitude, it takes to have to deal with something like that,
- 1:57:48and step out there and actually perform and make it happen.
- 1:57:51And again in Devon's specific case, he doesn't even need to do
- 1:57:56it. His future is set paid for by
- 1:58:00the Philadelphia Eagles. He's out there doing this
- 1:58:03because he loves the sport and has something that he wants to
- 1:58:07do for himself, and you get bad news and you still walk out
- 1:58:11there and do it, man. Let me know if you weren't a fan
- 1:58:14of Devin Townsend already. You better be?
- 1:58:16You sure better be? That's incredible.
- 1:58:21Prep. Now are we are we are we going
- 1:58:28to get into the 200 and put lucious on on a muzzle loader?
- 1:58:36Rio want Noah has always been that when
- 1:58:54poked that's how he's going to respond if Salt water period.
- 1:58:59He was as animated as I've ever seen.
- 1:59:02Right was the gesture. Bit disrespectful.
- 1:59:05Absolutely. Was his take afterwards and what
- 1:59:08he said an attempt to make it not as bad.
- 1:59:11It was bottom line is, I got told area he beat you.
- 1:59:17So our job is to get to be ready for it.
- 1:59:19Took to try not to get beat the next time.
- 1:59:22That's my job. I'm not going to bash Noah we've
- 1:59:25seen much worse over time. Over the years, right?
- 1:59:29We have, and I think a lot of it is because Ariane who's very on
- 1:59:33is he's the new kid on the Block.
- 1:59:35He's the new fresh new face, he's a child and all that stuff
- 1:59:39you need to have to distract the child.
- 1:59:40But look, as a coach. Do I condone such antics?
- 1:59:44You guys know me better? I do not.
- 1:59:46But is that something weird? You know, there's not banners
- 1:59:49flying and Gainesville hatred of natural law allows because it's
- 1:59:53Noah. It's what he does.
- 1:59:55And so our job is to respond to that.
- 1:59:57Make it so easy for him next time.
- 1:59:59Okay see I'm here for all of that.
- 2:00:02I actually think that's what. Yeah, I agree.
- 2:00:05It was disrespectful but that type of disrespect at the pro
- 2:00:10level from a person who has accomplishments not live with
- 2:00:14it. Exactly.
- 2:00:16Yeah. I'll live with it if he's the
- 2:00:18standard-bearer. Right.
- 2:00:19Right. It's interesting.
- 2:00:20He's got medals behind his neck. He can feel slighted by the new
- 2:00:24kid on the Block and and crown him a little bit like that.
- 2:00:27And I see me personally I thought the interview was more
- 2:00:28dishes. Well, then the Finish Line.
- 2:00:32That's why I thought that I thought the interview was I out
- 2:00:35for real. Are you just go talk crazy to
- 2:00:37the boy on camera, right? When he's standing there, but I
- 2:00:40love this response. I loved Ariana's response.
- 2:00:44Yeah, it ain't over there and walk off.
- 2:00:47Hmm, I loved it. So yeah.
- 2:00:51Hey, I want I want more of that from both ends.
- 2:00:55I want more of all that. Our top 10 will be done on the
- 2:00:58track night, not through social media, and other outlets, and
- 2:01:02not on the LLC either. So,
- 2:01:27I create them all the time, you know, Nike like even this thing
- 2:01:31about me not being a coach women like it's out there.
- 2:01:33It's real. But in my head it's a thousand
- 2:01:35times worse than when people are saying it is.
- 2:01:37Right because that's that's the stuff that motivation.
- 2:01:40So not that I needed motivation but you know, we will be a
- 2:01:44little more detailed and task-oriented when it comes to
- 2:01:47prepare for the two of them now because clearly I don't know
- 2:01:51what I'm doing. We're in. 1969, I don't bullshit
- 2:01:55mouths, fuck that up. Okay, I did.
- 2:01:56Thanks for letting me know. No, not that.
- 2:01:58I need to be here but I'm good. She's my neck was Mike, I
- 2:02:00apologize. See, that's that's the rhetoric
- 2:02:05out there and see. I'm good with that.
- 2:02:09I like it when people tell me what I can do, You know, I'm
- 2:02:14good. Appreciate it.
- 2:02:19Well, you know my take on USA's was men.
- 2:02:23That was a it was an awesome track meet that you had to
- 2:02:29subscribe to one platform and then find we have DirecTV and I
- 2:02:38pay a gajillion dollars and I had to find not one but two
- 2:02:43different channels that the track Was on and I was like this
- 2:02:47is on the finals day and I said I said to a very close friend.
- 2:02:53This right here is a microcosm of what's wrong with the sport
- 2:02:57of track and field on the championship day of the US
- 2:03:01championships. You gotta pay for 1/3 and then
- 2:03:07you got to find less a other one out, right?
- 2:03:11And then you got to find the other two platforms that it's on
- 2:03:14and I was just Like this ain't it.
- 2:03:18I'm like this. This is, this is what I should.
- 2:03:20I should be digging for to try to find the dart championships.
- 2:03:23This way I should not be trying to find the USA track and field
- 2:03:27championships this way. Hey, the dark championships on
- 2:03:32and one baby. Tell the people what the order
- 2:03:40of it was. So you basically went from
- 2:03:42paying to see the early part of this, the program you watch the
- 2:03:48live in terms of the, you know, the meat and potatoes.
- 2:03:52The the you know, the highlights, then you had to go
- 2:03:56to USA to watch to distance races.
- 2:04:01How much it was about three different races that had to be
- 2:04:04run earlier because of heat, heat, heat warnings.
- 2:04:08Yes! Hey, and here, and here's the
- 2:04:11worst part, you did all of that, right?
- 2:04:15And there were still people who won national championships that
- 2:04:18didn't get any of the performances shown, and they
- 2:04:20just got the screen. Exactly.
- 2:04:23Yeah. I was like, listen, I don't get
- 2:04:27it. I don't get how it flies, like,
- 2:04:30I Get how the athletes don't just say.
- 2:04:32Look, we're not doing this. Like, if you can't promote us
- 2:04:37better, dude, listen, all of these young people that do track
- 2:04:41and field. They are so tech-savvy.
- 2:04:42I promise you, they could do a better job on an iPhone on on
- 2:04:48Whatchamacallit. Why on Instagram life?
- 2:04:51Because if they switch to know what I'm going to use this
- 2:04:54analogy, right? It's like they cook.
- 2:04:56This really nice steak. Really nice potatoes.
- 2:05:00Got broccoli. All the things you need to make
- 2:05:04it an incredible dinner and they served it to you in a freaking
- 2:05:08top of a trash game. Yeah, well they did and you had
- 2:05:13to go to two restaurants to get it.
- 2:05:17They they took something that was incredibly special and they
- 2:05:20trashed it with their presentation of it.
- 2:05:22That's what they did. And not just special to us
- 2:05:25special to people who are outside of our sport as well.
- 2:05:28Yeah. Goes back to the difficulty to
- 2:05:32get there in the expense to get there, right?
- 2:05:36So now you have to struggle to watch your child, or your
- 2:05:42grandchild, or your godchild, or your brother, your cousin when
- 2:05:47you can't. So it's frustrate, you know,
- 2:05:50like it's crazy. We can get the NCAA to be free.
- 2:06:01Because I'm in California I didn't go.
- 2:06:04I chose not to roll up. Usatf usatf TV, which I
- 2:06:11absolutely pay a subscription for.
- 2:06:14Like why can't get usatf TV with my membership to being from
- 2:06:19being usatf? Why is that mean part of the
- 2:06:22package right now? With all due respect?
- 2:06:25Why am I paying money to listen to Justin and and Dawn navigate
- 2:06:33the majority of the competition? Because most of the events is
- 2:06:39over, the four days were usatf TV.
- 2:06:42Then peacock, I got to pee For peacock to yeah, only the only
- 2:06:47turn on my TV and watched were like oh hour and a half.
- 2:06:51When do I get Auto in the crew? Bye.
- 2:06:54It was a mess. Yeah, it was, it was a mess and
- 2:06:58they did such a bat like okay this these are things they
- 2:07:01missed, right? Because they showed them, but
- 2:07:04they showed them in such a disjointed fashion, right?
- 2:07:06Look, we know. Ryan Krauser's a monster and he
- 2:07:09threw 23 meters. But only, if you were really
- 2:07:12paying attention, do you realize he wasn't winning at one point?
- 2:07:15Yeah. Djokovic 275 friggin feet.
- 2:07:19Yeah. Oh yeah that's right.
- 2:07:21Like finding world champion they are didn't.
- 2:07:24Okay stop we're not going there. I sure did God come on.
- 2:07:32Look I love them. Both okay look anyway I just I
- 2:07:38can't I can't watch this pristine like track and field
- 2:07:45and track and field athletes are getting better folks and they're
- 2:07:48getting better rapidly, right? Rapid.
- 2:07:50So it's like we're taking all. We're taking all of the best
- 2:07:54artwork in the world taking out of taking it out of museums and
- 2:07:58just like showing it on the street at a carnival.
- 2:08:02Like I just I don't get it. I just don't get it like, how
- 2:08:07can the sport be marketed and viewed worse now than it was
- 2:08:13when I was running. I stopped running in 2001.
- 2:08:18There's like 9 million again, forms that exist to show track.
- 2:08:21Now, besides, besides, were supposed to leave, the Pinnacle
- 2:08:24of the sport. Yeah.
- 2:08:26Okay, this is supposed to be championships and it was a
- 2:08:31Phenomenal Championship. Yeah.
- 2:08:34But what, hey, let's just go. Yeah.
- 2:08:41When legal. Yeah, and wait, wait a minute.
- 2:08:53Not Christian Coleman specifically the one, the one
- 2:08:57beef I had with the championship itself and I don't think there's
- 2:09:00a there's a Work around. The actually there is if world
- 2:09:05champion ex-christian Coleman, the Ali who ever choose to
- 2:09:10exercise their right? Not to run in the final fill the
- 2:09:13fucking lie. Elaine.
- 2:09:16Yeah, there's no reason why you can't feel the lane.
- 2:09:20It's very easy fix, just squeeze them down and put the extra
- 2:09:22person on the outside. Build elaine.dean is he here's
- 2:09:27the easiest fix and any race that has As the world champion
- 2:09:32defending world champion, it just take nine to the final
- 2:09:36because there's nine Lanes. Yep.
- 2:09:40Just think that day. Yeah, that was that was it makes
- 2:09:44too much sense. Yeah, so mean but that to the
- 2:09:49Championships, I mean like like what about the college boys and
- 2:09:54immense? Wander?
- 2:09:55Hey, ya know, the governor pointed out Michael Norman was a
- 2:10:00top six. With his performance.
- 2:10:03Yes. But Champion Alison.
- 2:10:06Number eight all time. Number eight, yeah.
- 2:10:08Champion was top ten, right? Yes, you look, whatever.
- 2:10:11Cannot that is insane. That's just what?
- 2:10:19Well, what's insane is. I said this to Linden earlier
- 2:10:22today, practices I said just because nobody knows because the
- 2:10:26way the show was packaged commentated, all the above,
- 2:10:31right? Like we're sending pb's in the
- 2:10:35men's 400 of 43, 43 43 and 43 percent of four guys that have
- 2:10:46run out of 44 flag. Right.
- 2:10:50We're sending in the men. What that meant was that Michael
- 2:10:54Charities? Properties, PB 4390?
- 2:10:57Something. It's just under four.
- 2:11:01It's as it seems like the very last race of the level of last
- 2:11:06year. I think his PB is 4403.
- 2:11:10Okay. So three, I'm sorry, but if you
- 2:11:12want to was just above, see, certain Lucius boy,
- 2:11:25you're correct, right? But that just makes the next
- 2:11:28thing I'm going to say just as bad, right?
- 2:11:30We go sub 13 sub, 13:13 flat 13 flat, mmm.
- 2:11:37Like the team we're sending two World Championships is loaded.
- 2:11:43Yeah. Let me tell you like this women
- 2:11:46date. Amen.
- 2:11:51Amen, crazy. You run 158, you don't make it.
- 2:11:58Right on. The blame is to the women's 200.
- 2:12:01You run 20 21 and you don't make it.
- 2:12:03Yeah, that happened there. Like that that was that was
- 2:12:06nice. That was cute.
- 2:12:07Get out of here. You know what about the women's
- 2:12:10200 honestly, for me at least mad.
- 2:12:13Respect to prandini. Oh my gosh.
- 2:12:20She's just one of these people. Like looks like.
- 2:12:24So, this is the beauty of it. Like she walk.
- 2:12:27The track after the hundred. And, you know, Jen is not one
- 2:12:29that shows a lot of emotion but her body language is like Like
- 2:12:34basically, I didn't I didn't like that at all.
- 2:12:37So you watch it through the rounds and on the final day, the
- 2:12:40beauty of it was the person that was by her side.
- 2:12:44Every step of the way was Kenny Harrison, hmm.
- 2:12:50Like her teammates like you are making this team and I am you to
- 2:12:53support you through every step up.
- 2:12:55It was phenomenal. It was phenomenal and she came
- 2:12:59off that turn, like, I'm making this team.
- 2:13:02Yeah, I'm making this thing. Yeah, that was phenomenal.
- 2:13:05It was tomorrow Clark. Wow.
- 2:13:08Yes, you know. Wow.
- 2:13:11Is it just me? Come on.
- 2:13:13Hey, Rod that the person that the person I was happy as for
- 2:13:18all weekend long Shamir little? Yes.
- 2:13:23C'mere low. You talk about conquering?
- 2:13:26A demon. Yeah.
- 2:13:28As I was jumping up and down, like I was like, I could because
- 2:13:30I was so happy for her. Yes, so happy for her
- 2:13:35incredible, you know, like samir's struggled.
- 2:13:38So so much that people forget, like, she can legitimately go in
- 2:13:41there and get a medal. Don't don't, don't get it
- 2:13:45twisted. I don't care what the results
- 2:13:47were like Shamir little is every bit as capable of running under,
- 2:13:52what used to be the world record.
- 2:13:54Okay, you can go out there and get a medal.
- 2:13:57Don't think for a second? Yeah, yeah.
- 2:14:00Okay, sir Lucius. So, let's stay on the for
- 2:14:04hurdles here for a second. Okay.
- 2:14:07But sitting there, having practice, have you ever Seen a
- 2:14:13race run. So smooth. as what Sydney does,
- 2:14:18did the 1414 to hurdle 77 and then 15 coming home, With
- 2:14:28without no blips no nothing just and anything for me was it's
- 2:14:34like you didn't realize how fast she was running Until you
- 2:14:38realize how far back Britain was because, you know, Britain from
- 2:14:41right, yes, right there because of the effort, it was
- 2:14:45effortless, like there's no tension in her face.
- 2:14:48There was no greeting of the T. It was no greeting of anything.
- 2:14:51It was just like, I am out here, chilling.
- 2:14:53Yes. And I'm textbook.
- 2:14:56This is how this is. How to eventually be.
- 2:14:58This will be big time, Kudos are in body.
- 2:15:01So, you know, so let me ask you, this are the, the hurdle
- 2:15:06coaches, the coaches that are trying to achieve, what she just
- 2:15:10achieved. How are you teaching your kids?
- 2:15:30You don't watch that video. I'm gonna let me go because you
- 2:15:34don't have, but I was jogging, yes, yeah, yes.
- 2:15:56Was the last time we took three guys to the gym Just won, 47
- 2:15:58seconds, 47 seconds. I porosity Disney movies,
- 2:16:06anywhere to the governor's Point, listen to the city issue.
- 2:16:11Please, please people don't, don't do it.
- 2:16:16You cannot handle should be, it should be a do not even
- 2:16:27remotely. We attempt.
- 2:16:30What's that tape? And think that you can do that
- 2:16:33Sydney, is the ultimate unicorn? Yes.
- 2:16:37And here's how good it is one. Don't get it twisted.
- 2:16:41She was out there working on things.
- 2:16:44Yeah that was nowhere. Close to pedal to the Metal
- 2:16:47Force it. No.
- 2:16:48And here's the problem. How good is it?
- 2:16:52The goat delillo you cannot run that pattern.
- 2:16:58I cannot miss you tempted to do it.
- 2:17:02She wouldn't finish the race, right, right.
- 2:17:06Sit sit and Bobby are almost bored with the event.
- 2:17:10That Bobby is out there talking about, after we run this
- 2:17:1350-point and check the Deuces, we gonna go break the 400-meter
- 2:17:16hurdles before Demeter world record like me please.
- 2:17:19Think about, which is going to happen to actually said on
- 2:17:23national TV. Oh, he said we've just seen
- 2:17:26this. Yeah.
- 2:17:28You're already saying. Yeah, you know we're just going
- 2:17:31to go ahead and try and break the 400 world record because he
- 2:17:34know, because he knows that she is out there playing right now.
- 2:17:38Like, that's how swaggy whatever you want to call it.
- 2:17:42Like it's ID and everybody so understand what you're dealing
- 2:17:46with, Bobby, Kersey, Bobby Kersey Brooks, told her told me
- 2:17:51this story. This is before he knew, sit
- 2:17:53existed. This was years ago, Brooks said
- 2:17:57he gets he's Is Bobby calls in at 1:00 in the morning and says,
- 2:18:00to Brooks, I need you to help me figure out some 51 second stuff.
- 2:18:03Right. Brooke says, Bobby 51 seconds
- 2:18:06and isn't fast bodies responsible.
- 2:18:08I'm talking about over hurdles just like 10 years ago.
- 2:18:11This was 10 years ago, 10 years ago, right?
- 2:18:15So fast. Because so back up a little bit
- 2:18:17more. Remember, when Jackie crushed
- 2:18:21the world record in the multi, right?
- 2:18:24So then Bob he's like, well, we're bored here.
- 2:18:27Let's go, jump. 85 feet the Mojo.
- 2:18:29Yo let's go run 12-6 in the hurdles, that's what Bobby does
- 2:18:33right. What you're seeing now is he's
- 2:18:35like, okay I'm going to take you.
- 2:18:37I won't take this forward to her record and put it someplace
- 2:18:39where, where Jackie's kept record is still, right?
- 2:18:42Hmm. And I'm gonna go for, I'm gonna
- 2:18:44go attack this Warner record. Did y'all say can't be broken?
- 2:18:48Man, that's Bobby cursey Ali Kersey.
- 2:18:52Yep. Yeah, let me just going to be
- 2:18:55fun to watch. Let me add a little bit more
- 2:18:58salt to how strong this team has Raven Saunders.
- 2:19:02Actually through really well at the championship.
- 2:19:05She threw, 1895 their season best.
- 2:19:08She was fourth and didn't make the team.
- 2:19:12Like we're taking 1940 1945 and 2051 folks.
- 2:19:22I can't explain to you how much further that is than any three
- 2:19:27people we've ever taken. Like the three, the three like
- 2:19:30that that average is almost 20 meters.
- 2:19:34Between the three of them. Like no Shaker was everything
- 2:19:37come close to that. Yeah.
- 2:19:41And neither you build your black, your special know with
- 2:19:46the youth and the talent on the women's side is feed nominal and
- 2:19:51it's almost like, okay, the men decide to step up this, you
- 2:19:54know, we've kind of said this on the show, after the Olympics,
- 2:19:57like men's coaches, we got work to do, right?
- 2:19:59Right. And and it's been has been
- 2:20:01stepped up, I mean like again, like look at the one but two
- 2:20:05before both hurdles, hmm. Like on the men's side like
- 2:20:09there are medical tenders across the Would they exactly?
- 2:20:13There is there's no world where we don't expect for guys, divide
- 2:20:16up in the final if Eugene three weeks in a uniform and then what
- 2:20:20for do, the won 10 titles know the 100 years, know what we do,
- 2:20:26expect for guys. Nope, so let me, let me throw a
- 2:20:30question to y'all about the hunter because the hundred men
- 2:20:34overall did a phenomenal job. But let's be, let's be let's be
- 2:20:39real Fred stood Head and Shoulders above.
- 2:20:41All of them. Is it a two-man, ROM?
- 2:20:44I'm gonna give him head above him because he was 76 and second
- 2:20:49was 81. So that's not Head and Shoulders
- 2:20:50but okay, look, okay, I mean that's fine by the numbers.
- 2:20:54But did you ever for one second? Believe that Fred wasn't winning
- 2:20:57that race? Like, was it ever in doubt?
- 2:21:00Why not just let up, that's not the question.
- 2:21:01The question is head and his shoulders to me is Red, Run 70
- 2:21:08and they run 90, that's a joke. Okay, well, that's fine because
- 2:21:11when it, when it Point 0.05 in the Sprint world is so.
- 2:21:15So then, I think you may, I may know where you're going with my
- 2:21:18with the question that I would lose, your only want to ask you.
- 2:21:21Okay. Is it Fred versus the Italian?
- 2:21:23And everybody else is running for the bronze or can someone
- 2:21:27else get it? See, there's one thing you can't
- 2:21:31discount here and that's experience.
- 2:21:34Hmm, and anybody sexiest? Counting Christian Coleman out
- 2:21:39is wrong because he's been there and he's done it and if you
- 2:21:43watch him, he's starting to figure it out.
- 2:21:46Mmm. Okay.
- 2:21:48So I don't think it's red versus the Italian.
- 2:21:52I do in my opinion, friends of favorite, there's no doubt about
- 2:21:56that, sure, because because the way he's doing it but you can't
- 2:22:00just out can't ask Christian and Martin Bracy might have
- 2:22:05something to say about this, he might because that's the best
- 2:22:09the most composed I've ever seen Martin.
- 2:22:12Yeah, I was I was very impressed with the trade rumor mill from
- 2:22:15the semi-final, not so much, the guy from the final.
- 2:22:18I'm not sure what happened to see the great for about 50
- 2:22:20meters. No you're wrong.
- 2:22:21So stop you. So the end of the day I think I
- 2:22:34believe the men's hundred at the world's will be one of the
- 2:22:36better races. You see on an open up the
- 2:22:40weekend. Pay your subscription, get in
- 2:22:44front of your TV's, watch it because it's going to be epic.
- 2:22:48It is the Marcel. So Marcel Jacobs tweets.
- 2:22:51At Fred Curly? Yes directly in says, can't
- 2:22:58wait, you know, we're going to put on a show and Eugene, okay,
- 2:23:02he runs 10 In reality at the Italian championships.
- 2:23:07Okay. That's enough to win it.
- 2:23:09Exactly, so if he does, and I'm going to use the word if, if he
- 2:23:17does show up in Eugene, okay? We have to be under the
- 2:23:23impression that he's ready to run.
- 2:23:26He's right. Exactly.
- 2:23:27Okay. I can see a scenario where he
- 2:23:31does not show up. After putting out the Tweet,
- 2:23:35what's that? Sure?
- 2:23:38Hey, now, listen in this, in this age, in the way things are
- 2:23:45working. In the way these athletes are
- 2:23:47operating, It is far more important to hold on to what you
- 2:23:54have. And to go out there and lose
- 2:23:56like it. And I'm just saying, in general,
- 2:24:00this, this is a pattern, we've seen this, we've seen this play
- 2:24:02out before, so yes he goes and puts out the tweet.
- 2:24:08So, you and Eugene, yada yada yada.
- 2:24:11I'm just, I'm excited. When, if he does, show up.
- 2:24:16Can't wait. Front row, seat.
- 2:24:18Can't wait, let's go. What?
- 2:24:20What? I'm looking forward to it from
- 2:24:22that perspective, right? Is like, you know, I look, I
- 2:24:24like numbers. I mean, you got one, two, three,
- 2:24:30nine seven guys. I think Jacob says the fourth
- 2:24:33fastest PB in the meet at 980 and that's actually not true.
- 2:24:38Because if we include Old Man, River from Jamaica, who just ran
- 2:24:41out of his mind, right? But I'm saying I wasn't
- 2:24:47including him my that's my point, right?
- 2:24:49Because he's so far removed from his TV but he did run up.
- 2:24:52He did run under 999 81st last week, right?
- 2:24:56So what I'm saying is if we just look at in Prime's you got 39,
- 2:24:59sevens in a 980. Oh, I'm popping popcorn for that
- 2:25:05race for those races, if indeed, Jacob shows up and it all
- 2:25:09happens because this is going to be fun.
- 2:25:12Mmm-hmm, the governor I don't disagree with your larger point
- 2:25:20about, you know, keeping what you have and losing.
- 2:25:24From an American perspective. Jacobs is already a God man made
- 2:25:30in Italy. Yes, win or lose.
- 2:25:33He's good. I just everything everything
- 2:25:38about his rise to where he is. Says, there ain't no way in hell
- 2:25:44he not coming out here to line up, see, but this is why I agree
- 2:25:47with the governor though and this is this is the part that we
- 2:25:50as Americans we just, we lose sight of sometimes.
- 2:25:54The sport is eurocentric and this year is a European
- 2:25:58championship year. And I've been to Europe twice
- 2:26:01this year. And I telling you half of the
- 2:26:04people that we would expect to be, there are going to end up
- 2:26:10booting World Championships. And focusing on European
- 2:26:14Champions. Well, listen, listen, I
- 2:26:16understand that before the audience, their Euro
- 2:26:20championships is bigger in Europe than World Championships
- 2:26:24is facts. Just is it just is.
- 2:26:28And if you ever have the ability to go to the European
- 2:26:31championships and watch it, it will be one of the better
- 2:26:34experiences you ever have in this sport.
- 2:26:37It's a phenomenal event. They really, really, really care
- 2:26:40about that. And you all who have done this
- 2:26:45individually as athletes at that level, maybe you'll back my
- 2:26:49fiery up on this and maybe you are.
- 2:26:51So I just I just, I was just giving props to the Euros,
- 2:26:55right? I think at least I felt when I
- 2:27:00was out there, and when I got to experience it, I think it's such
- 2:27:04a big deal to them Euro championships because they
- 2:27:07really struggle to beat us anyway, so that's their moment
- 2:27:12to shine, right? The Americans aren't here.
- 2:27:16Well, Jacobs beat the Americans. He's one of the few that can.
- 2:27:20Yes, but it's like he ain't coming War home is hurt.
- 2:27:25Hopefully, Not, he ain't coming those two.
- 2:27:28I feel like if their injury, if they're not hurt their come.
- 2:27:32Let's let's let's look at it from this standpoint.
- 2:27:36In what world I'm using the word world in what world does the
- 2:27:43World Championships come before the Commonwealth Games and the
- 2:27:47European championships, right? He's explained that to me looks
- 2:27:53like Like it's so backwards that you know what it's telling you
- 2:28:02what's most important exam this sport is this sport is
- 2:28:05incredibly Euro centered. We've said this a million times
- 2:28:09and the calendar always tells you what the story is.
- 2:28:11Absolutely because is there not a whole half season after
- 2:28:17Europeans. And we have to look forward to
- 2:28:20as well. Like this, this is this is where
- 2:28:23you start to really understand is like, okay.
- 2:28:26USA. You want to host the World
- 2:28:27Championships? Okay, go right ahead.
- 2:28:30Here you go. All right, we're going to put
- 2:28:33you smack, dab in the middle of July.
- 2:28:37That's what works for us. That's that's what works for us,
- 2:28:42okay? I mean, so again for mr.
- 2:28:46Jacobs, right. He's Olympic champion.
- 2:28:51Okay, what is what is a priority on his schedule?
- 2:28:55What Is the priority is it to win Worlds to backup?
- 2:28:59The Olympics is it to show up to Europeans and put on a show
- 2:29:05there. That's why I'm saying, that's
- 2:29:08why, that's why I will say this. I mean, I will question
- 2:29:10Governor. Kenny, not do both, you can.
- 2:29:13Yes, he can in his example. There's no competition at
- 2:29:17Europe, right? So there's a lot of bravado to
- 2:29:27him a lot of bravado Wilfred. Yeah, it's there's some ego
- 2:29:30stuff going on here and when you're tweeting the somebody I
- 2:29:33don't know why you tweet it, Fred that down with that, that's
- 2:29:37wrong. So I expect him to be here.
- 2:29:45I expected to be a show, man. And speaking with Fred.
- 2:29:49And speaking with friends, seek friend, Zeke said to me, I
- 2:29:52promise you. He's gonna run a lot faster.
- 2:29:56It works. I saw him in the airport after
- 2:29:58the meat quote, he's going to run a lot faster at Worlds and
- 2:30:04and this can't get lost in this conversation because this is why
- 2:30:07I, this is why I'm a fan of Jacobs.
- 2:30:09And this is why I think he's showing up right or wrong.
- 2:30:13If when you're the Olympic champion, when you're a world
- 2:30:17champion, when you reach that Plateau, right, most athletes
- 2:30:21care about their legacy, right? Marcel Jacobs Legacy won't be
- 2:30:27complete without this without taking the world championship
- 2:30:32from Christian Coleman fretting. The world champion.
- 2:30:37He's the number one guy right now, but he ain't the champ,
- 2:30:40everybody. Last year, said what nice race?
- 2:30:44But Comey wasn't there. He got to come here.
- 2:30:48If he comes here and beats them on on in that in that building
- 2:30:52in the cathedral. Legacy stamp forever.
- 2:30:56Hmm. This particular Championship is
- 2:31:01bigger for his legacy, then the one next year, or Paris, or any
- 2:31:06of the other ones. He came in the cathedral and
- 2:31:08beat those two. Dudes on us, soil.
- 2:31:11That's the Legacy race. I can't get over 983 976 9797,
- 2:31:22what? Yeah, as friends.
- 2:31:26It's a psycho with this. Like, at this point, we all
- 2:31:28understand, we we were all around when when Otto drop that
- 2:31:3398 in the first round. And we were just like, what are
- 2:31:38you doing? John Smith, said, what are you
- 2:31:40doing, right? Hey easy, bucko easy, you know?
- 2:31:50Phenomenal stuff, man. Phenomenal, Big League?
- 2:31:55Yeah, definitely. And you know, there are a lot of
- 2:31:58things that we didn't cover, so we whatever came to head
- 2:32:02whatever. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:32:03So and so with that feel free to talk about it in the comments if
- 2:32:09there's something that's going to come up it will come up
- 2:32:11again. I promise.
- 2:32:15Let's go ahead and transition. A would you rather?
- 2:32:19Quiet. Sure.
- 2:32:21If you exactly right. All right.
- 2:32:28Would you rather be in a cast on your leg or cast it on your
- 2:32:32wrist, or your hand? Wrist.
- 2:32:39I want limb, would you rather operate a flip phone or have
- 2:32:46limited data on your smartphone? I remember the flip phone being
- 2:32:53a positive experience for me as well as my teenager ask me.
- 2:33:02Well how do you swipe on this and how do you get to your apps
- 2:33:04on this? And I'm like that's not a thing.
- 2:33:22Training not competing or anything, just training.
- 2:33:26Only trained in door or train Outdoors.
- 2:33:31Full-time. Correct.
- 2:33:33Only one. You can't go back and forth.
- 2:33:35Well, I live in California so I'm good.
- 2:33:37I'm outside. Got it, you know, you just
- 2:33:42jinxed your next season, right? Would you would you rather
- 2:33:48pierce your septum or your lip? Oh my god.
- 2:33:52Oh man. The septum is what this this
- 2:33:54here. This guy.
- 2:33:55Yeah, or my lip or your lip. This is why I'm asking here's my
- 2:34:03tongue and be good. Nope.
- 2:34:05Okay. No because if you pierce your
- 2:34:08tongue you're not on this show anymore.
- 2:34:13No Dagon. Anybody who has a check but if
- 2:34:14you pierce his septum he is Would you rather see into the
- 2:34:44future or fix the pass? You said see into the future?
- 2:34:52Well, I guess like have premonitions, be able to know.
- 2:34:56I'd rather, I'd rather have power to fix the past because
- 2:34:59that will affect said future Allah backs of future.
- 2:35:08Would you rather coach a 10 of an athlete?
- 2:35:11Like their, a Top-level athletes with a bad attitude or an 8 with
- 2:35:19a great attitude. Let me give it a six and eight
- 2:35:24too easy. A six with a great attitude.
- 2:35:28Okay, wait, your numbers threw me off.
- 2:35:29You're okay. Like on a scale from 1-10,
- 2:35:33correct. Correct a rating scale.
- 2:35:37Professionally or Collegiate just coach.
- 2:35:41Now, that makes it. It makes a difference.
- 2:35:44Does it make a difference? I'll take the kid with the
- 2:35:47proper attitude. Got it.
- 2:35:49Okay, my, my questions are done gentlemen.
- 2:36:00Actually, she hasn't lied to you.
- 2:36:02What if it was attitude Got everybody thinking.
- 2:36:35You can only coach one of them. And you can only use the
- 2:36:40parameters that are set forward by usatf.
- 2:36:44Would you rather coach the men's for my one woman's four by one?
- 2:36:51At this year's World Championships, you can only
- 2:36:53coach one of them. And and you have to use the top
- 2:36:59for whatever their parameters are parameters, which means I
- 2:37:07have my whatever whatever whatever.
- 2:37:16Honestly and this is this is a horrible reason to have this
- 2:37:21answer, but it's still just speaks.
- 2:37:23To the way Society is, I'd rather coach the men's team
- 2:37:26because it will be seen as a more important accomplishment.
- 2:37:34Didn T, but unfortunate that true, but that might have, that
- 2:37:38might not be gender-based. I might be just the number of
- 2:37:40times a minute, lost sure. I'm all for taking on the
- 2:37:44biggest challenge, but on the track, the women are the biggest
- 2:37:48challenge because of the strength of the Jamaican women's
- 2:37:50team. Yes.
- 2:37:55But yeah, I'd rather comes to you and says, you can go to
- 2:38:02Drake relays penry. These are Texas relays on your
- 2:38:07season, which one are you going to?
- 2:38:11We're coming to Florida. I appreciate you, though.
- 2:38:13This is just don't be. All right, can I just go to
- 2:38:24Gainesville and okay? So, all right.
- 2:38:33It's not a rapid type answer, I'm not going Liz, I'm not going
- 2:38:36to pin, okay? All right, all right, Texas, in
- 2:38:43theory would have better weather.
- 2:38:46I actually really like, Drake relays.
- 2:38:51You know, I do I like it. I think they do a good job.
- 2:38:53I think they put on a good meat, but it might be 35.
- 2:38:58So, you know, I guess, I guess I go to Texas since its release.
- 2:39:04Okay. But begrudging, I do not enjoy.
- 2:39:09Okay, would you rather attend, a Too Short concert or a Jay-Z
- 2:39:25concert. Jay-Z ain't even close.
- 2:39:30There's no Universe where to start will put on a better
- 2:39:32concert. They did.
- 2:39:47From the crowd to the onstage performance in this if you want
- 2:39:51to get to shore concert go to a strip club.
- 2:39:54Oh my God, sure you're not wrong.
- 2:40:00Jay-Z and Beyonce. All right.
- 2:40:10That was fun. That was fun.
- 2:40:12Rounding out the show with heartbeat props.
- 2:40:16You know, in these trying times personally, professionally,
- 2:40:23athletically everything you know, people need to hear when
- 2:40:26things are going, right? And people need to highlight
- 2:40:28those who are doing, right? So we're here to do that.
- 2:40:34Would anybody like to go first I want to send a shout out
- 2:40:39heartbeat props out to everybody at the gas pumps making life
- 2:40:43decisions. Man, that kid man.
- 2:40:49Jeez. How many 1332 box full of my
- 2:40:56truck at the gas station? You know what?
- 2:41:12My heartbeat actually go out a whole lot of people who we were
- 2:41:17just talking about, like we've discussed on this show ad
- 2:41:20infinitum. How hard track and field is yet,
- 2:41:24we're sending an incredible team.
- 2:41:27My heartbeat props. Go out to all all of the folks
- 2:41:32both young medium and bordering on Old who are still Doing all
- 2:41:39the training necessary to fight the fight to go to World
- 2:41:43Championships and try to win medals.
- 2:41:48Because, and I'm not saying this in any level of braggadocious -
- 2:41:53like I know how hard that is. And I'll be honest.
- 2:41:56It it's no less hard now than it was then like, yeah, technology
- 2:42:02has gotten better but so have all the people you compete
- 2:42:05against. So, and social media is a whole
- 2:42:08nother monster, so I give all of the people who are endeavoring
- 2:42:15to do professional track. Professionals and professionals.
- 2:42:20I tip my cap to you all because to get through the gauntlet of
- 2:42:25US championships and then say, tighten the chain strap in a
- 2:42:30month, I got more for you. I want to give my heart and you
- 2:42:37got a fan. I'm gonna get my Harpy props to
- 2:42:42the folks that the almost right. I've been watching this since
- 2:42:49mid-may that Compass level at the premium level at the
- 2:42:53Incheon. Leveling out the USA champion
- 2:42:55level is the person that has the performance of their life.
- 2:42:59The person that gives her all and just doesn't quite make it
- 2:43:02and that just happened so much. You know, the heartache, the The
- 2:43:07coaches, the actors involved, and it's hard to watch.
- 2:43:10It really is. And so, I, my heartbeat props,
- 2:43:13go to those people to the coaches and athletes.
- 2:43:15The parents, the siblings that have to pick them up and support
- 2:43:18them when things don't go the way, they want them to go and
- 2:43:22forget for the Having the courage to line up and go out
- 2:43:24and do it again because it's not easy.
- 2:43:26So those are my heartbeat props to school.
- 2:43:32I can go next Governor wasn't ready to.
- 2:43:37It's fine. But go ahead.
- 2:43:44Mine is a kind of outside the realm of, you know, our Sport
- 2:43:50and all that. I mean I was enamored with the
- 2:43:56female performances at USA's. I shouted out some of those
- 2:44:00women that we need to be uplifting right now.
- 2:44:03But women in America took her big ass blow this past week with
- 2:44:09the dismantling of Roe v-- Wade by the Supreme Court.
- 2:44:16You know, fortunately, I live in a state where that's never going
- 2:44:20to be the law of the land here in California, but for half the
- 2:44:25states in this country, women just lost the fundamental right
- 2:44:28to control their own Futures and make their own decisions.
- 2:44:31And I don't know. It's wrong at every level, but I
- 2:44:37think the men in this nation need to stand up and have our
- 2:44:43women's backs on this particular issue because we're still, the
- 2:44:47majority in the Congress has, we're still the majority in the
- 2:44:51state houses and local pool apologize, political realm.
- 2:44:56And, you know, it doesn't make any sense that guns have more
- 2:45:00rights in this country than what as a person who was basically
- 2:45:05raised by a single mother, No, I have two sisters.
- 2:45:10Life partners and grandmothers and gratin crap.
- 2:45:14I think he's just like I just it makes me sick to my stomach to
- 2:45:18understand what women are going to have to endure forward
- 2:45:21because of that decision. I think every piece of it is
- 2:45:24wrong and I just hope that we can find a way forward that
- 2:45:26helps as many women as possible because it's it's going to be
- 2:45:32really, really bad. My heartbeat props.
- 2:45:38Go out to Clyde for taking what I was going to say.
- 2:45:40Thank you very much and see I think We should all as he said
- 2:45:54you'd behind protecting the women of this country.
- 2:45:57Absolutely Clive. Great job, absolutely.
- 2:46:03Related not related as my heartbeat propped on and
- 2:46:06mentioning those who are Desiring the change.
- 2:46:10I give you the props for those who are actually making actions
- 2:46:16to be the Catalyst for change rather than just talking about
- 2:46:19it. And why I say that is, I give
- 2:46:21the props to those, who are keeping vocal about the desire
- 2:46:25of change, because if people aren't aware of these changes
- 2:46:28that need to be made, whether it be Roe, v-- Wade, whether it be
- 2:46:30the Bowerman, Action process, whatever this these processes
- 2:46:34are, if we're not vocal and take action to it, they never become
- 2:46:39change. It's only just a what-if.
- 2:46:41Or they should have. So Props to you all who are
- 2:46:44allowing yourself to be strong enough, and vulnerable enough to
- 2:46:47put yourself out front and be a voice for things that need to
- 2:46:50be. If not changed, at least
- 2:46:52reviewed to be changed. So keeping strong and courageous
- 2:46:59enough. To bring these things to light.
- 2:47:05Well, with that, ironically you still managed to take up a lot
- 2:47:11of time. So, thank you all for giving us
- 2:47:14your ears. We hope your ears and your eyes.
- 2:47:17I guess. I know that a lot of you are
- 2:47:19listening rather than watching sometimes but another fun show.
- 2:47:23Thank you again, the land and Victor gentlemen, thank you
- 2:47:26again for your time this evening.
- 2:47:28But with that said, you know, most of us are enjoying the most
- 2:47:31time we spent homes. For the last six months so
- 2:47:34please do so and enjoy that and then otherwise we'll see each
- 2:47:38other next time. Bye everyone.
- 2:47:43Would you like to come on the bus to get to running?
- 2:48:13Wouldn't be here but we have stopped raining.
- 2:48:16You gotta understand wife's, gotta catch Stars, show you how
- 2:48:19to fight for, show us who you are, you lack experience?
- 2:48:22But still you want to talk and who is that junk to yourself?
- 2:48:25You gotta swallow, heads, prevail when your backbone
- 2:48:28strong, gotta keep it coming up, won't last long faster fell this
- 2:48:33cell this a strong and if you don't check yourself and that's
- 2:48:36wrong just trying to give you the real bitch ass for so why
- 2:48:40you keep cutting us off to a small?
- 2:48:42We put It in slow-mo, what you fast for it.
