2:47
Speaker 3: Brad mclhenny, Brian, good morning, Welcome to the show.
2:50
Speaker 6: Hi day, good morning.
2:52
Speaker 7: Thank you for being here.
2:54
Speaker 3: So I guess it was at what time last night
2:57
Speaker 3: did we get the word down that Andy Smith was
3:00
Speaker 3: going to be the new Senate President.
3:03
Speaker 6: The puff of smoke, the white smoke from the State
3:07
Speaker 6: Capitol dome. So time ran away from me, but I
3:10
Speaker 6: think it was after seven, but before eight, And of
3:14
Speaker 6: course the time for the caucus that was leading into
3:18
Speaker 6: the vote was three PM, so it was a long period.
3:22
Speaker 6: But what was going on behind closed doors was each
3:26
Speaker 6: of the three candidates to be Senate President, Randy Smith,
3:30
Speaker 6: who eventually won. Randy is Senator. Smith is a two
3:36
Speaker 6: term Senator from now from Preston County. He had represented
3:40
Speaker 6: the Tucker County area either way, that is a vast
3:43
Speaker 6: and mountainous district, has been interview chairman. He was up
3:48
Speaker 6: against two guys who had been in the leadership, Tom
3:52
Speaker 6: Takubo who has been the majority leader, pomonologist resident of
3:57
Speaker 6: the Canal Valley, and then Eric who runs a series
4:02
Speaker 6: of businesses including physical therapy centers, had been uh the
4:08
Speaker 6: high profile finance chairman. So Randy Smith, you know, dark
4:13
Speaker 6: horse against two members of the current leadership, and it
4:18
Speaker 6: was Smith who came out on top.
4:20
Speaker 8: It.
4:21
Speaker 6: You know, we were watching and waiting, myself and several
4:25
Speaker 6: other reporters, a media nicely of Westbrook. Here watch Steven
4:29
Speaker 6: Allen Adams of the Algen Newspapers, a couple others, and
4:35
Speaker 6: I mean, senators are humans, they should take bathroom breaks.
4:38
Speaker 6: So awkwardly we would run out in the hall and
4:40
Speaker 6: be like, hey, anything going on, and they'd be like
4:44
Speaker 6: having a little relief, you know, until the door. There
4:50
Speaker 6: was a long, a long applause a little after seven.
4:54
Speaker 3: I sure hope that applause wasn't coming while someone was
4:56
Speaker 3: in the restroom.
4:57
Speaker 6: Brand that was That was not a bathroom matter. That
5:01
Speaker 6: was a Senate Chamber matter, not the other chamber, the
5:06
Speaker 6: Senate Chamber and along. So we gathered up our stuff
5:11
Speaker 6: and hustled out, and it was very informal. I had
5:15
Speaker 6: thought maybe it went on so long, but I had
5:17
Speaker 6: thought maybe the entire caucus would come out on the
5:21
Speaker 6: chamber steps and address the few of us who were there.
5:26
Speaker 6: That wasn't the case. We just sort of meekly wandered
5:30
Speaker 6: into the chamber and said, is it okay if we
5:32
Speaker 6: come in here? You know, we began hearing one senator
5:37
Speaker 6: told me conversationally as he was walking walking out, he said,
5:42
Speaker 6: Randy Smith, another senator was on his phone, and we
5:47
Speaker 6: overheard him say Randy Smith. So we found out in
5:50
Speaker 6: a very informal fashion and then went into the chamber,
5:54
Speaker 6: and you know, Senator Smith was glad to talk to us,
5:59
Speaker 6: very welcoming, but it was not not as ceremonial or
6:05
Speaker 6: as formal as I thought it might be to sort of,
6:09
Speaker 6: you know, here's our guy. The explanation I got for
6:14
Speaker 6: that was that everybody was, you know, frankly tired. They had,
6:18
Speaker 6: I think gone without dinner, and you know they have
6:22
Speaker 6: meetings again today, They're they're doing interim meetings right back
6:25
Speaker 6: of business. So Randy Smith did talk to the media
6:30
Speaker 6: for maybe twenty minutes or so. I mean, he was
6:33
Speaker 6: tired and kind of I think overwhelmed in a way,
6:38
Speaker 6: just you know, kind of he was confident, yet also
6:43
Speaker 6: you know, he was reflecting and over the course of
6:47
Speaker 6: his life kind of surprised to be in that spot
6:50
Speaker 6: and it was hitting him. So he was he was
6:54
Speaker 6: generous with his time, but also was kind of feeling
6:58
Speaker 6: his way through what to say and how to say
7:01
Speaker 6: it in his own emotions. So it was I mean,
7:05
Speaker 6: it was really quite a scene.
7:07
Speaker 3: And then and I will say programming, note that Randy
7:09
Speaker 3: Smith is going to be on talkline coming up at
7:13
Speaker 3: ten o six this morning. A couple of things. I
7:15
Speaker 3: talked to a couple of state senators kind of off
7:17
Speaker 3: the record this morning. I leave their names out, Brad,
7:19
Speaker 3: but one of them said that what the media that
7:22
Speaker 3: would be us should be focusing on here is the
7:25
Speaker 3: story that is Randy Smith, you know, as you said,
7:29
Speaker 3: representing that to very mouthonous places where it snows in August,
7:33
Speaker 3: Preston and in Tucker Counties and a coal miner who
7:36
Speaker 3: was able to rise to this level. That's one part
7:39
Speaker 3: of it. But I also talked to another state senator
7:43
Speaker 3: off the record who said that no matter whom got
7:46
Speaker 3: the presidency, whether it was Tokubo tar or as it
7:49
Speaker 3: was in the end, Brad Randy Smith, they're going to
7:52
Speaker 3: have their hands full because there's quite a division there
7:55
Speaker 3: from what I understand.
7:56
Speaker 7: What's your take?
7:59
Speaker 6: Well, you know, so I have a written story at
8:02
Speaker 6: West Virginia metronews dot com and it's been up since
8:05
Speaker 6: eight forty seven pm, and it does focus on, you know,
8:09
Speaker 6: Randy Smith, admittedly unlikely route from coal minor to West
8:15
Speaker 6: Virginia Senate president. So it's good to get advice. Twelve
8:19
Speaker 6: hours after the fact about what that focus could be.
8:23
Speaker 6: The other thing I would say, though, is, you know,
8:27
Speaker 6: I really had thought that maybe the entire caucus it
8:30
Speaker 6: was a three way race. But the players in the race, Smith,
8:36
Speaker 6: to Google and Tar have publicly been complementary of each
8:39
Speaker 6: other before and after, and I thought maybe that the
8:44
Speaker 6: entire caucus would come out on the chamber stairs as
8:49
Speaker 6: a single unit and address us and just say, you know,
8:52
Speaker 6: we're behind Senator Smith. Our success depends on his. That
8:58
Speaker 6: didn't happen, And the explanation I was event was that
9:03
Speaker 6: that people were just tired. People just you know, went
9:05
Speaker 6: home and they'd had it. You know, today is a
9:08
Speaker 6: new day. It's the light of day, and we'll see.
9:12
Speaker 6: I think it was very competitive. Senator Smith himself did
9:16
Speaker 6: not express any ill feeling toward the other competitors for
9:21
Speaker 6: that race. He remained complimentary of both to Kubo and Tar,
9:27
Speaker 6: and he I thought he would have an idea who
9:30
Speaker 6: he wants on his leadership team. I thought he would
9:33
Speaker 6: be ready to, you know, give us at least a
9:35
Speaker 6: few names, but he was not. His entire pitch has
9:38
Speaker 6: been I don't want to be top down. I want
9:42
Speaker 6: to involve everybody. If it's the will of Caucus, I
9:45
Speaker 6: want to do it, he said, I haven't promised anybody anything,
9:50
Speaker 6: and that was still what he was telling us as
9:53
Speaker 6: of yesterday. He said he has to assemble his leadership and.
9:56
Speaker 3: Some love it may very well change because we don't
10:00
Speaker 3: know what incoming Governor Morrissey. I mean, there's rumors out
10:04
Speaker 3: there that that Patrick Morrissey, who's a governor elect to
10:07
Speaker 3: West Virginia, may be plucking some of the I mean,
10:09
Speaker 3: may possibly be plucking some of these senators to possibly
10:13
Speaker 3: be part of his cabinet, and that could change things entirely.
10:19
Speaker 6: Well, there may be you know, there may be some
10:21
Speaker 6: people on the back row, which is not the advantageous
10:24
Speaker 6: place to be coming out of this because they were
10:26
Speaker 6: on other teams in the Senate. But you're right, there
10:31
Speaker 6: are going to be other changes that will change, I
10:34
Speaker 6: think significantly, even the thirty two member supermajority. We know
10:40
Speaker 6: that that Charlie Trump, the longtime Judiciary chairman, has been
10:44
Speaker 6: elected to the state Supreme Court. So sometime in the
10:47
Speaker 6: next few weeks he's going to resign and take that
10:51
Speaker 6: that Supreme Court role. Mark Hunt, another member of the
10:54
Speaker 6: Republican caucus has been elected auditor, so he'll be leaving.
10:58
Speaker 6: That's two. There are suggestions that both the incoming Morrissey
11:04
Speaker 6: administration and maybe the incoming Trump administration may pluck some people.
11:10
Speaker 6: So out of a thirty two member caucus, if you're
11:13
Speaker 6: talking five or so who may be leaving, you know,
11:17
Speaker 6: that's that's a significant number, and it could change the
11:21
Speaker 6: very complexion of what the caucus is.
11:23
Speaker 3: Like talking to Brad mclhaney the day voland show and
11:26
Speaker 3: five Vadieline brought to you apart by fresh Air Filters

Speaker 3: Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air.
11:39
Speaker 7: All right.
11:39
Speaker 3: So exactly before we let you go, what exactly happened
11:43
Speaker 3: with the special session that never became a special session?
11:48
Speaker 6: Oh man? Well, you know, my impression was that it
11:50
Speaker 6: was iffy to begin with. It was more like putting
11:54
Speaker 6: up feelers and seeing if it could be done. And
11:58
Speaker 6: I think when it you know, again, to catch momentum
12:01
Speaker 6: as a public conversational topic. You know, legislators are from
12:07
Speaker 6: all over the state, including the Easter pen Handle, and
12:09
Speaker 6: then an email went out to them saying, there is
12:12
Speaker 6: a possibility that we may be going into special session.
12:15
Speaker 6: What would have been this past Saturday evening. And that's fair.
12:18
Speaker 6: They got a plan, they got to be in town.
12:20
Speaker 6: But the timing of it was that, Okay, let me
12:26
Speaker 6: let me back back a little bit. I'm not quite
12:28
Speaker 6: sure why it was urgent. It was an economic development matter,
12:34
Speaker 6: and it could be that there was a limited window
12:36
Speaker 6: of time. Also, the Justice administration is within a few
12:41
Speaker 6: weeks of attend so to the degree that they have involvement,
12:45
Speaker 6: they're they're packing up and leaving. And then but there
12:51
Speaker 6: are new legislators, I mean they just got some are leaving,
12:57
Speaker 6: whether they lost or whether they plan to leave to
12:59
Speaker 6: begin with, others are taking their place. To pass a
13:03
Speaker 6: law is a serious matter, and this was going to
13:06
Speaker 6: require some change to some law. So the question was
13:10
Speaker 6: which legislators, the old or the new, would be responsible
13:14
Speaker 6: for that. The state constitution says that as of December first,
13:17
Speaker 6: should be the new ones. So if there was some
13:21
Speaker 6: urgent matter that needed to be taken care of in
13:23
Speaker 6: the law, it just fell apart because it was unclear
13:28
Speaker 6: what legislators would make That decision didn't seem like it
13:33
Speaker 6: was going to hold up legally for the old legislature.
13:36
Speaker 6: To speak for the new legislature. I will say another
13:41
Speaker 6: guest coming up on talk line just to plug it.
13:43
Speaker 6: My understanding is that Brian Abraham, the current chief of staff,
13:47
Speaker 6: is going to be the guest at eleven six on
13:50
Speaker 6: talk line and can further explain. But Abraham sent on
13:54
Speaker 6: a message, a public message on Friday evening just saying
13:57
Speaker 6: that there was a significant opportunity the administration wanted to
14:02
Speaker 6: go ahead and grab that opportunity. But my reading into
14:07
Speaker 6: it was that there remains a chance to pursue this
14:11
Speaker 6: with the next legislative session.
14:12
Speaker 3: All right, thirty seconds, Your interims do continue today. There
14:15
Speaker 3: are some committee meetings today, right.
14:18
Speaker 6: There are some committee meetings today. There's a meeting of
14:21
Speaker 6: the committee that oversees PIA, and I think there will
14:25
Speaker 6: be some discussion of that hot topic on the insurance
14:28
Speaker 6: for public employees, but mostly they're looking at border risk
14:32
Speaker 6: and insurance management. Just real quickly, the scuttle butt in
14:35
Speaker 6: the background last night. It is the state's most gosipic place.
14:41
Speaker 6: There is a new Delegate Joseph Desto from the Eastern
14:44
Speaker 6: pain Annal from gerard'stown, who is whose future of service
14:49
Speaker 6: is in doubt. There was a long and I think
14:52
Speaker 6: heated caucus of Republicans last night talking about whether DeSoto
14:59
Speaker 6: appropriately and and honestly represented to voters his biography. My
15:04
Speaker 6: understanding is that most of the Republican caucus highly doubts
15:09
Speaker 6: that level of honesty, and there is a push for
15:14
Speaker 6: mister de Soto to not serve as Delegate Soto. So
15:18
Speaker 6: that's the developing story. I have heard about this from
15:22
Speaker 6: multiple sources. Believe the basis of it to be true,
15:26
Speaker 6: but I don't quite know where it stands or where
15:29
Speaker 6: it's headed.
15:30
Speaker 7: All Right, the interesting stuff, Brad, I appreciate it.
15:33
Speaker 9: Man.

15:49
Speaker 3: A couple of texts here says the reason day that
15:51
Speaker 3: the proceedings were so informal was because the vote was
15:54
Speaker 3: so close. The caucus is clearly divided, says a Texter.
16:00
Speaker 3: Says there are rumors of another push for Senate presidency
16:03
Speaker 3: after those senators leave to go after or go to
16:06
Speaker 3: the other administration before the session, says a Texter.
16:11
Speaker 7: Let me see here.
16:11
Speaker 3: Texter said Disota will likely be expelled from the House
16:14
Speaker 3: in January.
16:16
Speaker 7: We'll have to keep a close eye on that.

19:11
Speaker 3: Chair and delate Mike Pushkin will be joining us a
19:13
Speaker 3: little bit later on in the show What a Day
19:15
Speaker 3: for Marshall University Sports Programs? Yesterday, Marshall announces, to no
19:18
Speaker 3: one's surprise, the coach Charles Huff is leaving. He'll be
19:21
Speaker 3: taking over the head coaching position at Southern miss Enter
19:24
Speaker 3: former Mountaineer defensive coordinator, current DC at North Carolina State
19:28
Speaker 3: and Boone County native Tony Gibson. The Herd accepts a
19:31
Speaker 3: bull bed in the Independence Bowl to take on Army
19:34
Speaker 3: December twenty eighth in Shreveport. And also, something along the
19:38
Speaker 3: way happened to the soccer program too. A guy who
19:41
Speaker 3: kind of covers a lot of this stuff is Rusty Webb,
19:43
Speaker 3: our old friend of the show.
19:44
Speaker 7: How are you, Rusty?
19:45
Speaker 4: It's a great day to be in the Herd, right,
19:48
Speaker 4: I mean.
19:48
Speaker 7: What a day? I mean?
19:50
Speaker 3: You know everybody knew that Huff was leaving. I mean
19:52
Speaker 3: that was and everybody knew where he was going. But
19:55
Speaker 3: the announcement, you know, comes down. That was the first
19:57
Speaker 3: part of the news yesterday was that Huff you know,
20:00
Speaker 3: signed the deal. He is going to go to Southern Mississippi.
20:03
Speaker 3: Uh A lateral move, A move down.
20:06
Speaker 7: What do you think?
20:07
Speaker 4: Uh, lateral? I mean you know it's the same conference.
20:10
Speaker 7: Uh, but Southern Miss is I mean.
20:13
Speaker 11: Team yeah, the historically they've been good. Yes, Uh, they
20:18
Speaker 11: pay a little better. Uh, at least in the last
20:21
Speaker 11: few years they paid a little better for their head coach.
20:23
Speaker 11: So uh yeah, I'm gonna I'm still gonna call it
20:27
Speaker 11: a lateral move. Southern Miss has been you know, I
20:30
Speaker 11: saw the other days said before Boise State was Boise State,
20:34
Speaker 11: Southern miss was Boise State. And I wanted to say, well,
20:36
Speaker 11: before they were they Marshall was, you know Boise State.
20:42
Speaker 3: Right, So people went to Southern missis right far with
20:46
Speaker 3: the Southern Miss Yeah, yeah, exactly, it's like they've been
20:48
Speaker 3: the most famous alum all right. So, and I don't
20:50
Speaker 3: want to forget and mentioning in all this, I forgot
20:52
Speaker 3: to mention, Oh, the the butt whipping that they put
20:55
Speaker 3: on Louisiana Saturday night to win the Sun Belt Championship
20:58
Speaker 3: and what turned out to be hubs last game.
21:00
Speaker 11: Yeah, Marshall's a it's a great school, very you know,
21:03
Speaker 11: progressive president very Uh, you know you got to take
21:06
Speaker 11: a look, man, it's things are great, things are happening.
21:09
Speaker 2: Was it?
21:10
Speaker 4: Great things are happening?
21:11
Speaker 3: And in Huntington, right, it's just and and now so
21:15
Speaker 3: those announcements and then we understand that Tony Gibson uh
21:20
Speaker 3: is going to be, you know, a long time Mountaineer
21:22
Speaker 3: defensive coordinator, but most recently the defensive coordinator at North
21:25
Speaker 3: Carolina State is coming home and much like you a
21:29
Speaker 3: Boot County game man from the man from Van, Yeah,
21:33
Speaker 3: the Van Bulldogs.
21:34
Speaker 7: Think about that move.
21:35
Speaker 11: He graduated I guess ten years after I did, because
21:38
Speaker 11: he's ten years younger than me. No, it's a fantastic pick.
21:41
Speaker 11: I mean, you know, as far as I'm concerned, Uh,
21:46
Speaker 11: Christian Spears is batting a thousand. I mean, he hit
21:49
Speaker 11: his his picks since he's been the athletic director have
21:53
Speaker 11: just been spot on.
21:55
Speaker 4: I think he's.
21:56
Speaker 11: Done a great job, an absolutely great job in picking
21:59
Speaker 11: coaches and.
22:00
Speaker 3: And think about this for a moment, when you talk
22:01
Speaker 3: about the coaches of Marshall, not only with Gibson coming in,
22:05
Speaker 3: not only are both West Virginia guys, but they're both
22:09
Speaker 3: southern West Virginia guys. Corny Corney Jackson from Oakill Cocuruse,
22:12
Speaker 3: he was a herd standout player, and now Gibson from
22:14
Speaker 3: from downtown Van, West Virginia. I wasn't sure what he
22:17
Speaker 3: was from the from downtown downtown of the suburbs of Van,
22:21
Speaker 3: but but.
22:22
Speaker 4: I think that, I mean, that is the that's a suburb.
22:27
Speaker 7: That is a great pick though, I mean, it really
22:28
Speaker 7: is to get Yeah.
22:29
Speaker 11: Well, remember the last time Marshall University picked a fifty
22:32
Speaker 11: three old, fifty three year old defensive coordinator, Bob PRUITTT,
22:37
Speaker 11: things turned out pretty well, pretty well. Yeah, so I'm
22:40
Speaker 11: excited for they call it Gibby, it's like his nickname.
22:43
Speaker 11: I'm excited. Uh, I'm going to go to the press
22:46
Speaker 11: conference Thursday, Thursday. They haven't announced it yet, Okay, So I.
22:52
Speaker 7: Was thinking I read somewhere stars and maybe not maybe not.
22:55
Speaker 11: Yeah I did too, but yeah, I'm not going to
22:57
Speaker 11: announce it. That's that's that's there, that's their do you.
23:00
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, what about this Marshall ball game against Army, I.
23:05
Speaker 11: Tell you, in any other circumstances, and here's the thing,
23:09
Speaker 11: we get to play. Marshall is playing the number one
23:12
Speaker 11: AAC team. West Virginia's playing the number two aa AC team.
23:18
Speaker 4: Right to our.
23:19
Speaker 11: Memis yes, okay, I mean when has that happened? I mean,
23:23
Speaker 11: come on. The problem is is that we're not going
23:28
Speaker 11: to have our players. I mean, they're in a lot
23:30
Speaker 11: of them in the transfer portal.
23:31
Speaker 3: But Marshall's already announced that he is. I don't know
23:36
Speaker 3: what a status with the ball game is, but he's
23:37
Speaker 3: under the transfer portal.
23:38
Speaker 11: Well, that's my that's my understanding is it doesn't mean
23:41
Speaker 11: you're disqualified from playing if you announce. So just because
23:45
Speaker 11: you announce you're in the portal doesn't mean you're not
23:47
Speaker 11: going to play. An interim coach is going to coach
23:50
Speaker 11: the game. But man, what an opportunity. And the last
23:55
Speaker 11: time again, let's go back in history. Nineteen ninety seven,
23:58
Speaker 11: the last time the Herd played at West Point, Randy
24:01
Speaker 11: Moss did the famous jump over the player. I was there,
24:05
Speaker 11: I saw it. But you know, Army's been really good
24:10
Speaker 11: this year. Army is really good and a lot of
24:12
Speaker 11: people thought that Armies should be in the national playoff pictures.
24:16
Speaker 11: So you couldn't ask for a better really a better
24:19
Speaker 11: matchup outside of a P four team than Army. Army
24:23
Speaker 11: Is or Boise State. I guess Army is probably the
24:27
Speaker 11: best of the best of the what they call the
24:29
Speaker 11: G five. So it's a great opportunity. I just don't
24:32
Speaker 11: know who we're going to be fielding on that day.
24:34
Speaker 3: Well and the world and I've talked about this, so
24:36
Speaker 3: Jim Workman on from Walie Whimpy's last week we talked
24:38
Speaker 3: about this. The world of college athletics has changed so
24:42
Speaker 3: much with the transfer portal and with n I L.
24:44
Speaker 3: I mean, and the guys that that you saw for
24:47
Speaker 3: Mark or WV you fill in school here are not
24:50
Speaker 3: the guys that you're going to see next year. And
24:52
Speaker 3: it's so hard for a coach to come in because
24:56
Speaker 3: you see, you know, you see a freshman that comes
24:59
Speaker 3: in back in the back in the old days, you know,
25:01
Speaker 3: during our time, you see a freshman that comes in,
25:03
Speaker 3: you say, oh man, this guy is going to be good.
25:05
Speaker 3: Well red shirt him or he'll play a little bit
25:07
Speaker 3: or whatever. Man, by the time he becomes a sophomore,
25:09
Speaker 3: he's going to be fantastic. Well guess what, by the
25:11
Speaker 3: time he's a sophomore, he's gone.
25:13
Speaker 11: You know, the fans were so cheated these days because
25:16
Speaker 11: we really don't get to see players develop really unless
25:19
Speaker 11: we want to follow them from team to team to team. Yeah,
25:23
Speaker 11: and and it actually it goes back to show you,
25:26
Speaker 11: I think, what a great job Coachuff did. I mean
25:28
Speaker 11: he did.
25:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, you just I mean, you get what you get.
25:31
Speaker 11: It's like, it's not like it's not like last year's
25:35
Speaker 11: like you said, you show up, You're like, Okay, who's here.
25:38
Speaker 3: It's not just about the x's and o's anymore because
25:41
Speaker 3: coaches now have to serve as almost hr people because
25:46
Speaker 3: they they're dealing with a different class, you know, different
25:48
Speaker 3: kids that come in every year. Plus when you factor
25:51
Speaker 3: in nil you know, and uh, and they've got to
25:53
Speaker 3: be out there more than ever, shaking the hands and
25:56
Speaker 3: high fiving the donors because that's and you see that
26:00
Speaker 3: going on in Morgantown right now.
26:02
Speaker 4: Yeah.
26:02
Speaker 3: I mean there's a lot of big, big time players,
26:05
Speaker 3: and by players, I don't mean actual on the field players,
26:07
Speaker 3: I mean behind the scenes that want rich Rod to
26:10
Speaker 3: come there, and some pretty big money's being thrown out
26:13
Speaker 3: there to try to get him to come back home.
26:14
Speaker 3: I don't know what's going to happen there.
26:15
Speaker 4: I think I think it'd be a brilliant move, but brilliant.
26:19
Speaker 3: But it's it's not the same. It's not Axis and Oeno.
26:22
Speaker 3: So what about Marshall Soccer?
26:25
Speaker 11: I mean, come on, come on, I mean what did
26:29
Speaker 11: we give Did we give coach Grassey a life extension?
26:32
Speaker 11: Because if we didn't, we should have. I was actually
26:35
Speaker 11: supposed to play with Alison tennis this morning, but I
26:38
Speaker 11: figured they got insulate last night we couldn't play. But
26:42
Speaker 11: so they're going down to Carry North Carroy going down
26:44
Speaker 11: to Carry on Friday and then spend the weekend there.
26:47
Speaker 11: If if we win, if we beat Ohire State, which
26:49
Speaker 11: I think has been number one pretty much all or
26:52
Speaker 11: at the top all year, which doesn't scare me a bit.
26:56
Speaker 11: Or I'm sure coach Grassey, then Monday they would be
27:00
Speaker 11: the finals Monday evening. Uh And we were at the
27:03
Speaker 11: last one, Rob and I drove down for that one,
27:05
Speaker 11: drove back that night.
27:06
Speaker 3: It was crazy, What a what a what a game,
27:09
Speaker 3: What a Sunday it was for marsh University. We're talking
27:11
Speaker 3: to Rusty Web the Dave Island Show in five eighty
27:13
Speaker 3: live Bright to you canmpart by your hometown baseball team,
27:15
Speaker 3: The Charles, The Dirty Birds, Birds and Selango Law continue
27:18
Speaker 3: with Slang the Law Light the Nights throughout the holiday season.
27:21
Speaker 3: Follow the Dirty Birds on Facebook for details and get
27:23
Speaker 3: your chicks ahead of time at Dblightthnight dot com. Rust You,
27:26
Speaker 3: I want to pick your brain on a couple of
27:27
Speaker 3: other things non related to Marshall University. In Sports number one,
27:31
Speaker 3: there was a new Senate president, Randy Smith. There was
27:34
Speaker 3: a three way battle between Eric Tarr, Tom Tacubo and
27:38
Speaker 3: Randy Smith. In the end it looks like right now
27:40
Speaker 3: because some things you know, could change between now and then,
27:43
Speaker 3: but Randy Smith is going to be the new Senate president.
27:46
Speaker 3: No drama on the House side, as Handshaw you know
27:48
Speaker 3: ran on the post your thoughts on the on the
27:50
Speaker 3: on the three way run and is there a major
27:53
Speaker 3: divide as a textas said earlier with the with the
27:55
Speaker 3: Republican Caucus on the Senate side, I don't.
27:58
Speaker 11: I think they're going to rally and Randy Smith, I
28:01
Speaker 11: think he is a perfect choice to carry the water
28:04
Speaker 11: for Governor Morrissey, and I think Speaker Hanshaw is good.
28:11
Speaker 11: They're good conservatives. They're both smart. And what I particularly
28:16
Speaker 11: like most about Randy Smith is he's a coal miner.
28:19
Speaker 11: And I love it when the working people get the
28:21
Speaker 11: leadership positions because we need some common sense in leadership positions.
28:26
Speaker 11: So I'm ecstatic about the pick.
28:29
Speaker 4: I was hoping that. I was hoping it would be
28:32
Speaker 4: Randy Smith. To tell you the truth, I was hoping
28:35
Speaker 4: it would be Randy Smith.
28:36
Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody earlier today that was mentioning
28:40
Speaker 3: the rise in the world of politics from people that
28:42
Speaker 3: aren't quote unquote politicians. And you know, you could throw
28:46
Speaker 3: Trump in there, and you could throw there. Even before Trump,
28:48
Speaker 3: there were.
28:48
Speaker 7: People that the people seem to be justice.
28:53
Speaker 3: People seem to be clamoring for that for people that
28:57
Speaker 3: are early, and we seen it in senate races, the
28:59
Speaker 3: US Senate races across the country. People that are a
29:00
Speaker 3: little bit look at Fatterman. You know somebody that's just
29:03
Speaker 3: a little bit different. That guy's a lot different, but
29:05
Speaker 3: they seem to be looking toward that. Before we let
29:07
Speaker 3: you go, I want to with the world of West
29:10
Speaker 3: Virginian politics lost an icon yesterday. I think it was
29:15
Speaker 3: with the passion of Daryl McGraw. Your thoughts on Derrel MacGrath.
29:18
Speaker 11: Very honorable person, uh, very uh, very good legal mind,
29:23
Speaker 11: very practical.
29:25
Speaker 4: Uh, good stock from Wyoming County.
29:29
Speaker 2: Uh.
29:29
Speaker 4: I know the whole family.
29:31
Speaker 11: Uh, they're they're good southern West Virginia people who who
29:36
Speaker 11: who have always fought for uh and will continue to
29:40
Speaker 11: fight for the working man and women. And UH, I
29:44
Speaker 11: have nothing nothing bad to say about Daryl McGraw.
29:47
Speaker 4: He was an honorable man.
29:49
Speaker 11: He he served a short time when I, of course
29:53
Speaker 11: I've been following politics all my life, but I just
29:56
Speaker 11: graduated from law school.
29:57
Speaker 4: When he left the Supreme Court.
30:00
Speaker 11: And then of course his brother Warren was on there
30:02
Speaker 11: for many many years, and then he went to become
30:05
Speaker 11: Attorney General, and then of course our governor now Patrick
30:08
Speaker 11: Morrissey defeated him to become a three term attorney general.
30:12
Speaker 4: But no, he was always cordial.
30:15
Speaker 11: It's always nice when you were a young lawyer or
30:18
Speaker 11: a young person and you run into one of these
30:21
Speaker 11: you know, icons, and they know your name.
30:24
Speaker 4: It's always nice.
30:25
Speaker 11: And he knew my name, and his wife, Jeria nice people.
30:30
Speaker 11: She of course she was in the I think she
30:31
Speaker 11: was a she was a superintendent of schools for a Yeah.
30:36
Speaker 7: Yeah, Rusty, It's always a pleasure to have you on
30:38
Speaker 7: the show.
30:39
Speaker 4: Well, thanks for thanks for letting me on. Yeah, let's
30:42
Speaker 4: go go ahead, go hurd.
30:43
Speaker 7: What a day of news.
30:44
Speaker 3: You and I were texting back and forth yesterday. What
30:46
Speaker 3: a day for the Herd yesterday. It's like, this is
30:49
Speaker 3: the top Oh, okay, this is the top Star.
30:50
Speaker 7: No, this is the top store.
30:52
Speaker 3: And now they get ready to go play a ball
30:53
Speaker 3: game and possibly before that play some championship level soccer.
30:58
Speaker 3: You're doing it right down there, Rusty. I appreciate you
31:00
Speaker 3: being here in the heart of West Virginia. There is
31:02
Speaker 3: just a profound force that goes beyond the realm of sports,
31:04
Speaker 3: transcending limitations and fostering and sense of belonging. Special Olympics
31:08
Speaker 3: are remarkable, remarkable. I don't know what word I just said.
31:10
Speaker 3: A remarkable initiative, showcased in the latest episode of West
31:13
Speaker 3: Virginia Enriched in collaboration with Huntington, says, is a testament
31:17
Speaker 3: to the power of determination, unity and unwavering support. I

34:50
Speaker 3: West Virginia is definitely clamoring for working class politicians. Oh wait,
34:54
Speaker 3: West Virginia voted for Trump, an alleged billionaire who's appointing
34:57
Speaker 3: billionaires to his cabinet positions, who are task with fixing
35:00
Speaker 3: the system made by duh billionaires. It's a Texter text
35:04
Speaker 3: says Dave Trump might not be a politician, but hung
35:07
Speaker 3: around them and bought enough influence just as bad, maybe worse.
35:11
Speaker 3: Let's bring in State Democratic Party chair delic It Mike Pushkin,
35:13
Speaker 3: Good morning, Good morning.
35:15
Speaker 7: It is good to see you.
35:15
Speaker 4: Haven't seen you in a while.
35:16
Speaker 3: Your public has been clamoring for you to be on
35:19
Speaker 3: this show. I've got text just about every day. Where
35:22
Speaker 3: is Mike Pushkin?
35:23
Speaker 4: Are you kidding? Not surprising?
35:25
Speaker 3: I think there's a little sarcasm in the text that
35:27
Speaker 3: I get. I don't know who it's from, but you.
35:29
Speaker 9: Know, I think there are people that do. There are
35:31
Speaker 9: a few people out there that do like me, and
35:33
Speaker 9: then a couple of people I like may be interested
35:36
Speaker 9: in what I have to say on here, and people
35:38
Speaker 9: like to hear opposing viewpoints, and I think it's it's good.
35:41
Speaker 9: I think it's good for your show. Daved have opposing
35:43
Speaker 9: viewpoints on here. So I'm willing to come in, you know,
35:46
Speaker 9: if my schedule allows me to be here anytime.
35:49
Speaker 7: So in or I'm speaking to schedules.
35:50
Speaker 3: Interms are going on before we talk about the Senate presidency.
35:54
Speaker 7: Oh I actually no, I'm back up here.
35:55
Speaker 3: I want to talk about Daryl mcroth, Attorney General, former
35:59
Speaker 3: Attorney general, multi term Attorney General, Daryl McGrath.
36:01
Speaker 7: General and Supreme Court.
36:02
Speaker 3: Supreme Court justice passed away of eighty eight I think
36:06
Speaker 3: it was. I think he was eighty eight years old
36:07
Speaker 3: the weekend of a heart attack. Talk about Daryl McGrath.
36:10
Speaker 9: Daryl McGraw was just such a nice guy and a
36:13
Speaker 9: true champion of the people. And I remember him more
36:17
Speaker 9: of courses as Attorney General, and in that role of
36:20
Speaker 9: Attorney general, uh, he really stood up for the people
36:23
Speaker 9: of West Virginia. He had a very strong consumer protection division,
36:29
Speaker 9: and you know, they went after the bad guys and
36:31
Speaker 9: they stood up for the little guys. And that's what
36:33
Speaker 9: that's what the role of the Attorney general is supposed
36:35
Speaker 9: to be. Go after the back people that are ripping
36:38
Speaker 9: off seniors. I remember the this was it the Suarez case.
36:42
Speaker 9: There was this guy Suarez, I think he was from
36:44
Speaker 9: Ohio and he would advertise, you know, in the in
36:47
Speaker 9: the news of the Sunday newspaper, and he really targeted seniors.
36:50
Speaker 9: He ripped off seniors, and Attorney General McGraw went after
36:55
Speaker 9: him and won. And that guy, you know, continued to
37:00
Speaker 9: come after people like Daryl McGraw and and because they
37:03
Speaker 9: had a vested interest in it, and you know, the
37:06
Speaker 9: you know, Attorney General, McGraw definitely took up for people,
37:09
Speaker 9: and he was in it for the right reasons and
37:12
Speaker 9: on a personal level, just a really really genuine nice guy.
37:16
Speaker 3: I've heard that I did not know him, but of
37:18
Speaker 3: course I knew the name obviously, But I have heard
37:21
Speaker 3: from people that were on his side and not on
37:24
Speaker 3: his side, that nobody really said anything bad about him
37:27
Speaker 3: as a person. They may have disagreed with him on
37:29
Speaker 3: certain things, but as a person, most people seem to
37:32
Speaker 3: like him. And when the history books are written about
37:34
Speaker 3: the most iconic quest Virginia political figures, I mean, you're
37:37
Speaker 3: gonna put Bird in there, You're gonna put arch More
37:39
Speaker 3: in there, and some of these people, the McGraw brothers
37:42
Speaker 3: are going to be definitely deserve a spot. I mean, remember,
37:45
Speaker 3: he went after big tobacco and he won these kids,
37:48
Speaker 3: and he really was groundbreaking the way he led this
37:51
Speaker 3: like multi state suit which is now more common these
37:56
Speaker 3: days against big tobacco. He won it, and that's really
37:58
Speaker 3: what has started. That was the seed money for a
38:01
Speaker 3: rainy day fund, and it's helped this state a lot,
38:04
Speaker 3: helped the state a lot. So my sympathies go out
38:08
Speaker 3: to his family in Juria and as the rest and
38:11
Speaker 3: his kids and they're all just really really great people.
38:14
Speaker 3: And he's I mean, West Virginia lost lost their best
38:17
Speaker 3: friend to.
38:18
Speaker 7: Dave Alan Chilling.
38:18
Speaker 3: Five Aniline brought to you a part by Morgan to Morgan,
38:20
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. All right, interims are going on.
38:23
Speaker 3: Where are you right now? On interim?
38:25
Speaker 4: So I'm right here with you today.
38:26
Speaker 7: I know that. But I mean, as far as your
38:28
Speaker 7: your duties, what if.
38:29
Speaker 9: You have meetings that I'd leave. The Joint Committee on
38:33
Speaker 9: Education meets later today. The Joint Committee on Health on
38:36
Speaker 9: which I serve, will be a meeting later today. Tomorrow morning,
38:40
Speaker 9: the Legislative Oversight Committee on Education will meet. Those are
38:44
Speaker 9: the committees that I'm that I'm meeting on. I'm looking
38:47
Speaker 9: over the agendas and I'm ready to go up there
38:50
Speaker 9: and listen to the presentations and ask some questions.
38:52
Speaker 7: So yeah, mainly, I think the big news.
38:54
Speaker 9: Obviously is from the organizational caucuses that occurred yesterday, mainly
38:59
Speaker 9: in the cent It. I think that's where where you
39:01
Speaker 9: got your big news from with the Randy Smith and
39:04
Speaker 9: Randy Smith, what do you think about that? I know
39:05
Speaker 9: you're on the other side. But what do you think
39:07
Speaker 9: about that? Well, I think that Randy Smith is a
39:11
Speaker 9: really nice guy also, and I had had the privilege
39:15
Speaker 9: of serving in the in the House with he. He
39:17
Speaker 9: was in the House of Delegates before he was in
39:19
Speaker 9: the Senate. I was my first two years in the House,
39:22
Speaker 9: I served with Randy Smith, and even though we disagree
39:24
Speaker 9: on a whole lot of issues, on most issues, actually
39:27
Speaker 9: I found him to be a very nice person. So
39:29
Speaker 9: I congratuate my congratulations to Senate President Lieutenant Governor Randy Smith.
39:35
Speaker 9: And he's gonna it's it's going to be interesting. I
39:38
Speaker 9: think this is what like the new like populist wing
39:43
Speaker 9: of the Republican Party is going to have their they
39:46
Speaker 9: have Yeah, the numbers over there in the Senate, we'll
39:51
Speaker 9: see you and that that we'll see. It's gonna be
39:53
Speaker 9: very interesting.
39:53
Speaker 7: We'll see how they all get along.
39:55
Speaker 3: Because I was talking, as I mentioned earlier, I was
39:57
Speaker 3: talking to a state senator earlier who who said he's
40:01
Speaker 3: whoever the president was is really going to have their
40:04
Speaker 3: hands full.
40:05
Speaker 7: Because it's interesting.
40:06
Speaker 3: Because I talked to a lot of people in the House,
40:08
Speaker 3: in the Senate, and I was talking to one House
40:10
Speaker 3: member last week who said, Wow, those people in the
40:13
Speaker 3: Senate are something else, and then the Senate in the
40:15
Speaker 3: Senate says, those people in the House are crazy, and
40:17
Speaker 3: they're talking about Republicans because there's not enough Democrats really, so.
40:21
Speaker 9: We tend to be the same ones. They're just not
40:24
Speaker 9: nearly enough of us. And there's a reason for that.
40:26
Speaker 9: I've talked about this before, and jerry mandering. One of
40:30
Speaker 9: the byproducts of jerry mandering is extremism. When you cut
40:36
Speaker 9: the maps to really favor one party over another, then
40:41
Speaker 9: the elections are in May and not in the fall,
40:44
Speaker 9: and then so usually the most extreme can win that
40:47
Speaker 9: primary and doesn't have as much of a contest in
40:50
Speaker 9: the fall, and you get you wind up getting extremists
40:53
Speaker 9: on both side, because in certain states where they've jerry
40:56
Speaker 9: mandered it the other way, you get extremists on the
40:58
Speaker 9: other side. Here in West Virginia, we get a lot
41:00
Speaker 9: far far right folks who are who are winning more
41:02
Speaker 9: and more elections. And you know, we'll we'll see how
41:06
Speaker 9: the business community likes it. I'm not sure they will.
41:10
Speaker 3: Here we're talking with state Democratic Party chair and Delegate
41:12
Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin, and lots happened since you've been on, of course,
41:15
Speaker 3: the elections of Donald Trump, Jim Justice, Patrick Morrissey. Text
41:19
Speaker 3: here says ask Mike Pushkin why the Democrats suffered an
41:22
Speaker 3: overwhelming defeat in the general election. Would love to hear
41:25
Speaker 3: his expert opinion. Well, obviously it wasn't a West Virginia problem.
41:30
Speaker 3: It happened across the country, and it's I think it's
41:33
Speaker 3: what I was just talking about. Somehow the Republicans have
41:35
Speaker 3: done a better job of tapping into populism and have
41:39
Speaker 3: made themselves now to appear to be the you know,
41:42
Speaker 3: the party of the little guy. I don't believe that's true.
41:45
Speaker 3: I think that that's what the perception is. It's it's
41:48
Speaker 3: not necessarily true if you look at who really benefits
41:51
Speaker 3: from their policies. You know, tax cuts for the wealthy
41:55
Speaker 3: and tax cuts for corporations, that doesn't necessarily benefit.
41:58
Speaker 4: The little guy.
41:59
Speaker 9: Doing away with any kind of regulations on certain types
42:03
Speaker 9: of industries and making uh water and air less safe
42:08
Speaker 9: to drink and breed, that doesn't necessarily help the little guy.
42:12
Speaker 2: Uh.
42:12
Speaker 9: Stacking the court with with judges that are going to
42:15
Speaker 9: come down on the side of big business all the time,
42:17
Speaker 9: that doesn't necessarily help help the little guy. But they've
42:20
Speaker 9: done a good job of selling themselves as as this
42:22
Speaker 9: new populist party. When I look back, we were talking
42:27
Speaker 9: about Daryl McGrath. That was a real populace, Darryl McGrath.
42:29
Speaker 9: He was really in it for everybody, for the people
42:33
Speaker 9: that put him there. So we've got to look at
42:35
Speaker 9: the way that we're presenting ourselves when where we present ourselves.
42:38
Speaker 9: That's another thing too. Most people aren't reading newspapers anymore. Uh,
42:44
Speaker 9: They're not a lot of people aren't even listening to
42:46
Speaker 9: talk shows unfortunately, Dave. They're getting their their information from
42:49
Speaker 9: you know, from X or Twitter, whatever you want to
42:51
Speaker 9: call it, or face.
42:52
Speaker 3: And they're getting information that most the most podcasts, most
42:56
Speaker 3: of the lines with their view.
42:57
Speaker 7: It's good, that's a dangerous.
42:58
Speaker 9: But most of this universe here that has podcasts and
43:02
Speaker 9: on I mean X obviously is owned by Trump's biggest supporter,
43:07
Speaker 9: who's spent like a half a billion dollars on the
43:09
Speaker 9: election at elon Musk and on these podcasts, and the
43:13
Speaker 9: Republicans are going on these podcasts, and you know, I'm
43:17
Speaker 9: willing to go on on any of these shows too,
43:19
Speaker 9: but I'm just you know, there's chair here in little
43:21
Speaker 9: West Virginia. But we need Democrats to go into these
43:24
Speaker 9: spaces as well.
43:25
Speaker 3: Tex says, Ask Pushkin if he's going to do the
43:27
Speaker 3: right thing and resign as head of the Democratic Party.
43:29
Speaker 3: With their dismal performance in the election.
43:31
Speaker 7: As I said, this was not a West Virginia problem.
43:34
Speaker 4: This happened. It's not even I mean, it's happened across
43:36
Speaker 4: the world. When you have.
43:40
Speaker 9: Inflation that tends to bounce back against the party in power.
43:44
Speaker 9: So well, I would have I think we could have
43:46
Speaker 9: done better here we had When on the top of
43:49
Speaker 9: the ticket is getting less than thirty percent, it's very
43:52
Speaker 9: hard to pick up those seats down ballot. So we're
43:55
Speaker 9: going to continue to work and earn the vote and
43:57
Speaker 9: the trust of the people.
44:00
Speaker 7: What is it that you think that?
44:01
Speaker 3: And I guess I know the answer to this, but
44:03
Speaker 3: I just kind of want to hear you talk about.
44:05
Speaker 7: A little bit.
44:06
Speaker 3: You know, Glenn Elliott, the mayor of Wheeling, longtime mayor Wheeling,
44:11
Speaker 3: was a good candidate. I mean he was and you
44:13
Speaker 3: may not agree with all of his opinions, but I
44:14
Speaker 3: think most people would think he was a good candidate. Certainly,
44:17
Speaker 3: Steve Williams former delegate, multi term mayor of Charleston was
44:21
Speaker 3: a good candidate. They never got any traction whatsoever. Is
44:26
Speaker 3: it just because of West Virginia being the party of Trump?
44:31
Speaker 7: Now? Is that why that?
44:32
Speaker 3: No one? I mean they never got out of the
44:35
Speaker 3: starting gate. And I mean that with all due respect.
44:38
Speaker 9: When when you have the seventy thirty split, actually it
44:42
Speaker 9: was even worse than seventy thirty split at the top
44:45
Speaker 9: of the ticket. That means mathematically, you're gonna have to
44:47
Speaker 9: have a whole lot of people split tickets, a whole
44:50
Speaker 9: lot of people show up who are voting for Donald
44:52
Speaker 9: Trump to go down ballot and vote for the person
44:55
Speaker 9: rather than the party. It's just there weren't enough of
44:57
Speaker 9: those people. You would have to have a tremendous some
45:00
Speaker 9: amount of split ticket voters in order for us to
45:04
Speaker 9: do better. And to me, that was really the tough
45:06
Speaker 9: part of this election is I know how great our
45:09
Speaker 9: candidates were from the top of the ticket on down.
45:12
Speaker 4: You know, from you mentioned Mayor.
45:14
Speaker 9: Elliott, Mayor Williams and Teresa Tortseeva and all of our
45:17
Speaker 9: legislative candidates up and down the ticket. We had great
45:20
Speaker 9: candidates and a lot of them came up short, and
45:23
Speaker 9: it had more to do with party politics and it
45:26
Speaker 9: had to do with individual merit.
45:28
Speaker 4: So that was tough.
45:29
Speaker 9: But I think that, you know, they believe it'll be
45:33
Speaker 9: a different landscape by the time we get to the midterms.

48:48
Speaker 9: you're explaining you're you're losing. I think that was the
48:50
Speaker 9: biggest issue. Of course, that's the biggest issue. That's the
48:52
Speaker 9: most universal issue, people buying groceries. And uh, now I
48:57
Speaker 9: can tell you that, you know, a lot of it
48:59
Speaker 9: had to do with the most of it had to
49:00
Speaker 9: do it the fact that we had this pandemic. Some
49:02
Speaker 9: say that the pandemic was made worse by administration that
49:05
Speaker 9: chose to ignore it. And then the followed the Biden
49:09
Speaker 9: administration had to pump a lot of money into the
49:11
Speaker 9: economy to keep us from going off an economic cliff.
49:13
Speaker 9: They did the right thing, but that also leads to inflation. Now,
49:17
Speaker 9: see how long that took me to explain it. By
49:19
Speaker 9: the time you're doing that you're losing a lot of
49:21
Speaker 9: voters who just say, you know what, things were cheaper.
49:23
Speaker 3: Texas Pushkin is kind of correct about jerrymandering. His party
49:26
Speaker 3: did it for eighty years. What's good for the goose
49:29
Speaker 3: is good for the gender. It had to be a
49:30
Speaker 3: service who. Actually, they didn't do it to protect Democrats.
49:33
Speaker 9: Obviously they did it out of really ridiculous reasons, for
49:36
Speaker 9: personal reasons. We look at the jerrymandering that happened in
49:41
Speaker 9: twenty eleven. It wasn't done to protect Democrats. Obviously, it
49:45
Speaker 9: was done to protect incumbency.
49:47
Speaker 7: Tex says Bet.
49:48
Speaker 3: If Harris would have won, Uncle Mike would have been
49:51
Speaker 3: on the show the next day after the election text.
49:54
Speaker 9: I'll come on the show any time you invite me,
49:56
Speaker 9: no matter who the Jets lost yesterday, I'm here. Rodgers
50:00
Speaker 9: actually played pretty well, though he played very He played
50:02
Speaker 9: very well the defense in the special Teams The Drop
50:05
Speaker 9: the Ball, tex says, I'm so glad we can stop
50:07
Speaker 9: caring about the rule of law. President Jesus Trump says
50:10
Speaker 9: the January sixth criminals had no choice but to assault
50:13
Speaker 9: the Capitol police. Hey, Republicans, shut all the way up
50:16
Speaker 9: about the law and order. Thin blue Lions and honor.
50:18
Speaker 9: There was no integrity in the GOP. Text says Democrats
50:22
Speaker 9: need a syndicated media outrage machine that includes TV, radio
50:25
Speaker 9: and podcast that Sharon's View Talking Points.
50:27
Speaker 7: Twenty four to seven. You got MSNBC. I mean people, people.
50:31
Speaker 9: Aren't watching cable news anymore. Like, Okay, this was a
50:34
Speaker 9: very to me, a very interesting poll that came out
50:36
Speaker 9: here in West Virginia. Now, if you listen to Metro News,
50:39
Speaker 9: which isn't exactly liberal media in my opinion, or if
50:42
Speaker 9: you listened to it you read any paper in the
50:44
Speaker 9: state listening talk show, they were talking about Jim Justice's
50:47
Speaker 9: legal problems, his financial problems all through the election. And
50:50
Speaker 9: then a poll came out and I can't remember who
50:52
Speaker 9: did the poll. The poll came out and showed that
50:54
Speaker 9: nobody knew about it. People were not paying attention to
50:57
Speaker 9: Most people didn't know about Jim justices many problems, which
51:01
Speaker 9: tells me people either they're not they're not reading the news,
51:04
Speaker 9: they're not listening.
51:04
Speaker 7: To I don't know how you could not know.
51:06
Speaker 3: I mean really, but I'm.
51:10
Speaker 7: Not making this up. Wells didn't know.
51:12
Speaker 9: People aren't either, They're not getting their information from where
51:15
Speaker 9: they're getting their information from different sources or just not
51:17
Speaker 9: interested in that information.
51:18
Speaker 3: All right, tex says Mike West. Virginia voters are sick
51:21
Speaker 3: and tired of Democrat left wing liberalism. That's the reason
51:23
Speaker 3: Republicans dominated.
51:25
Speaker 9: Well, I think that they've done a good job of
51:27
Speaker 9: selling themselves as a party that's looking out for people's
51:30
Speaker 9: best interests. But you think it's in the best interest
51:32
Speaker 9: of people to uh raise premiums on our on our
51:36
Speaker 9: teachers and our police officers and our public employees. Because
51:39
Speaker 9: that's what they're gonna do, and they're gonna, they're gonna
51:41
Speaker 9: the whole point is to privatize it and throw these
51:43
Speaker 9: folks who have been working for in the public sector
51:46
Speaker 9: through the wolves. You think that's in people's best interests. No,
51:48
Speaker 9: but that's not what they run on. Nobody runs on, Hey,
51:51
Speaker 9: I'm going to raise your insurance premiums. I'm going to
51:53
Speaker 9: privatize your health care benefits. They don't run on that.
51:57
Speaker 9: They run on social issues and do a good job. Again,
52:00
Speaker 9: people upset at each other, all right, kudos to them.
52:03
Speaker 9: We're gonna keep at it and we're gonna and we're
52:05
Speaker 9: and we're gonna do the best we cand to give
52:08
Speaker 9: people the government they deserve.
52:09
Speaker 7: All right, get back over to the Capitol, any Joe
52:11
Speaker 7: over there today, Man, you got to get to work.
52:14
Speaker 7: I will get over I'll get ready to work, all right.
