- 10:03We've got to Bobby coping with us this evening, women's general

- 10:10him over the next 40 minutes or so about the great developments
- 10:14that have been taking place over the last few weeks and the
- 10:16progress that the women's section of the club, has been
- 10:19making in recent Seasons, but also shout out.
- 10:22We've also got Gary Reed sitting on the sofa behind, as well.
- 10:26He's laughing away. He's trying to avoid the mic but
- 10:28so I will give him a shout out because I'm sure he's an
- 10:30integral part of the club. Well, and the structure of the
- 10:33women's section of the club and the he's head of the women's
- 10:35Administration there. So yeah, Gary.
- 10:37Thanks for bringing Bobby along this evening.
- 10:39Very much appreciated right now, we've got that out the way with
- 10:44Bobby. Where should we start last
- 10:46season? What a great successful one.
- 10:50It was and County cup success. Great run in the FA Cup positive
- 10:56in the league as well. I couldn't find a - when I was
- 10:59doing the research to be honest. It's always gonna be bumps in
- 11:02the road but overall, it was a fantastic season.
- 11:05Yeah. Now, first off, I can't believe
- 11:06you've give a shout-out to guarantee.
- 11:09That's not great. Well, it's always behind the
- 11:12scenes that, you know, make up the structure.
- 11:14Don't know how vital part of the success story 100%.
- 11:18Yeah, last season was massive for us.
- 11:20It was the first real season where you know success was shown
- 11:24from the work that's been put in the FA Cup.
- 11:27Run was fantastic. You know we got beat by a
- 11:29championship Club in the in the third round.
- 11:31Again another historic moment for the club, you know, off the
- 11:35pitch, in terms of the business development of the club was
- 11:38fantastic. You know, developing everything
- 11:42off the pitch as well as on the pitch.
- 11:44The players are staff been fantastic.
- 11:46And you know I joke about Gary but Gary's involvement is you
- 11:49know, is tremendous and we wouldn't be able to do what we
- 11:52do without people like guys. So you know.
- 11:54It's yeah. Last season was huge but you
- 11:56know I can go into next season will be even bigger.
- 11:59Yeah, indeed. Yeah, we've met Legendary there,
- 12:02but there's many behind-the-scenes no doubt that
- 12:04play a huge part in the success that the clubs had already.
- 12:08And no doubt will be an integral part of the Season that starts
- 12:12in mid August for you as well. But let's cover up on the pitch,
- 12:16first of all. So the women's FA Cup run the
- 12:20farthest, the club's Bean bang out to Durham women, one-nil, no
- 12:25shame in that. There are Women's Championship
- 12:27side. What do you think the players
- 12:30learn from that? And what The club potentially
- 12:32learn from that as well, after the performances on and off the
- 12:36pitch. Yeah, I think the biggest thing
- 12:37for me was was confidence, you know, give the players and all
- 12:40the staff confidence that we can compete really.
- 12:42Well, at that level, we got be off of yard Wonder strike which,
- 12:47you know, you can't help. But also the fact that one we
- 12:51got there from, you know, I think we came in the third round
- 12:55qualifying. So we have to win three or four
- 12:57games to get there but then you know putting him in a
- 13:00performance like that. That a record crowd at the Abbey
- 13:03Lon, you know, massive confidence for us to season is
- 13:07no coincidence. We finish where we did in the
- 13:08league. Yeah, but in Mansfield yeah,
- 13:12beginning their first, round in the third, qualifying round, you
- 13:14Breeze past Mansfield 31, before being The League champion style
- 13:18Bridge, women and 120th minute of extra time.
- 13:22I think I remember that goal on social media as well.
- 13:25I think it was Bedlam on them on the sidelines as well as the
- 13:27picture that moment in time and then beating spot one kalsa I've
- 13:30always been a bit of Nemesis for the club haven't met, I think,
- 13:33just in terms of the battles that you had against them.
- 13:35So, in terms of the performances, you must be very
- 13:37proud as a general manager and no doubt Dan and the rest of the
- 13:41coaching staff were at the time as well.
- 13:43Yeah, it's just another, you know, Accolade for the players
- 13:45and staff, which shows, you know, the work we put in week in
- 13:49week out. You get opportunities to play
- 13:51against the championship Club in in the third round.
- 13:53The FA Cup, you know, it's massive for everyone involved,
- 13:56so hopefully next season will have even more opportunities
- 13:58like that. Yeah, indeed it just shows that
- 14:01that Confidence within the group shows what could be achieved if
- 14:05that can be sustained over the seas of a football season
- 14:08itself, from a leak perspective? Yeah, absolutely.
- 14:10I'm very big on professionalism, you know, anyone that you speak
- 14:13to will tell you that? So it's nice to see that, you
- 14:17know, we're starting to see things like this where, you
- 14:19know, we're competing really when the league FA Cup County
- 14:22cup, everything we're doing is being put in place so the
- 14:25players and staff ultimately can you know enjoy and have a real
- 14:28successful season and then the county cup that you Just
- 14:31mentioned there as well. Always nice to be a team from
- 14:34Northampton. Absolutely.
- 14:37Both in the semi-final beating Northampton town and then
- 14:40beating their time to development Squad in the final
- 14:43itself as well. So yeah.
- 14:44Double success server a cobbler side.
- 14:46Yeah, absolutely. And again, not only because it
- 14:48was Northampton but, you know, to get a bit of silverware for
- 14:51the season. And again, another thing to say
- 14:54to the blaze, look, well done, massive achievement.
- 14:56Let's go and build on it again next season.
- 14:58Yeah. And looking to retain the title,
- 15:00No Doubt. 104 coming season as well, there's no pressure there
- 15:04whatsoever. We talked about the great
- 15:07support the clubs had as well, very briefly there.
- 15:10I mentioned for the staff at born town and a bee lawn itself
- 15:15been to make feel very welcome. No doubt.
- 15:17Yeah, I think when I made the decision to move a star, got a
- 15:20little bit stick because it's a little way out of Peterborough.
- 15:23But tree Trend looking at, you know, how it's worked out.
- 15:28No one can say that, it was the wrong decision, you know, I
- 15:30average attendance 502 this season, which is an 800%
- 15:34increase and it was the 7th Gary mock.
- 15:39Correct me if I'm wrong, the seventh highest in tear for him
- 15:42for last season which again, you know, proofs in the pudding and
- 15:45it shows you that that was the correct decision.
- 15:47Yeah, 675 the record attendance for the FA Cup game, which is,
- 15:53you know, a testament to the marketing.
- 15:56But also the success, the clubs had on the pitch as well to
- 15:59bring those people back week in week out the absolutely not.
- 16:01Then for me, it comes down to the strategy, you know,
- 16:03everything that we achieve this season was in The Five-Year
- 16:05strategy and the the staff at born, you know, they're
- 16:10absolutely fantastic. We couldn't have asked to be
- 16:12hosted, by better Club, to be honest.
- 16:14You know, the extra work they do for us.
- 16:16Getting the games on in the winter.
- 16:18You know, everything. They've been fantastic and
- 16:21really happy to be the next season again.
- 16:22Yeah. And I'll guess that was
- 16:23challenging in itself. Isn't it being a club that's
- 16:27perhaps not used to having two games.
- 16:29A weekend played on their pitch as well.
- 16:31In the infrastructure there. And being that communicative and
- 16:34that relationship is pivotal to success on a Sunday afternoon
- 16:37for your home games and rezoning for us.
- 16:39You know, the movie was really important because previously, we
- 16:42play the training ground, which, you know, we can hold what
- 16:4550-100 people. Max and the girls are playing in
- 16:48a cage 3G. We wanted to give a real
- 16:50professional again, professional environment where we can get a
- 16:53believe up to about two and a half thousand and then went, you
- 16:56know, within the next couple of years.
- 16:57Hopefully, we're filling that out and then we'll be looking to
- 17:00move on to the West name Stadium.
- 17:01So if there is listening tonight, you heard it.
- 17:04There puppy. He wants to be wants the women's
- 17:07side playing there. On a more regular basis.
- 17:08No doubt. But we just there, but they did
- 17:11have a taste of that last season as well.
- 17:13Didn't the start the season against Lincoln?
- 17:15Yeah, exactly. And we got a record attendance
- 17:17again. Another historic moment, you
- 17:18know, two and a half hours. Yeah, 2,300.
- 17:20Yeah, which is fantastic. And the chairman Darrell is very
- 17:23much on board with look, if we can make it work in terms of
- 17:26financially and and everything else and it's feasible, you
- 17:28know, we're going to do it. Hmm, indeed, a no doubt you'll
- 17:31be looking A friendly fixture or two in terms of the dates and
- 17:34the availability of the western home stadium when the woman's
- 17:37fixed just come out next month now in China.
- 17:40Absolutely. And that's it for us, you know,
- 17:41at the moment whilst, you know, financially Etc, it's not quite
- 17:45feasible to play there every week.
- 17:46We want to make sure that we can put on a game every now and
- 17:49again to say look, you know, we are here and we're growing and
- 17:52eventually, we'll be here all the time.
- 17:53Yeah. Indeed him.
- 17:54Perhaps entice. A few funds once they've seen
- 17:56it, the women at the Western home, stadium up to up to The
- 18:00Abbey lawns in born as well. Well, absolutely.
- 18:02Absolutely, you know, that's the plan for us as long as we keep
- 18:04growing season upon sees and then you know, we know we'll get
- 18:07there eventually. Yeah, Matt catchment I guess of
- 18:08South Lincoln. Sure there's opportunities there
- 18:10as well. No doubt as well to bring
- 18:12women's football to South Lincolnshire.
- 18:13Absolutely, that's what, you know, the schools initiative so
- 18:15important as well. We spent a lot of time on that
- 18:18last evening trying to drive numbers and drive, attendances
- 18:21and also give opportunities to, you know, young fans in the
- 18:23community. So that again has been a massive
- 18:25part of the attendance increase as well.
- 18:27Yeah, and the mascot packages as well that you've had during the
- 18:30course of that. See As well makes a difference,
- 18:32doesn't it? Because it just gives an
- 18:33opportunity for for young girls to be able to walk alongside
- 18:37proceed there to be their Heroes.
- 18:39Absolutely. And I think you know that as
- 18:40well as the new girls Academy which I'm sure will come on to.
- 18:43Yeah, a big thing for us was look previously, there wasn't
- 18:46really a real pathway for young girls in Peterborough, but now,
- 18:50you know, young girls in Peterborough can aspire to be
- 18:52professional footballers and they've got real role models in
- 18:54front of them to do that. Whether that's really Academy
- 18:56whether that's through coming to watch the first team, whether
- 18:59that's through, you know, the community.
- 19:01Programs that will be in a mascot a game.
- 19:03You know there's loads of avenues now for them to have a
- 19:05real you know real desire to want to be a footballer.
- 19:08Yeah and just digress. Looks like you got the England's
- 19:10England. Women's team to stop to the
- 19:12World Cup as well. Very shortly.
- 19:14I guess having those games on mainstream TV as well.
- 19:18Make a huge difference and potentially bring more young
- 19:22girls and women women into the game as well to either play it
- 19:26or be part of the coaching set up here in years to come.
- 19:29Absolutely, I think that the Euros was huge.
- 19:31You know, that was fantastic in terms of, you know, the benefits
- 19:35that we fell off of that. So hopefully they can do it
- 19:37again at the World Cup and I will only be really positive for
- 19:40everyone involved. Yeah.
- 19:41Fingers crossed, they returned successful with the, with the
- 19:44world cup under their arms. Is it New Zealand Australia
- 19:47Australia? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:49So tough challenge there, no doubt.
- 19:51But the opportunity to watch those games on mainstream TV
- 19:54will hopefully have that knock on effect and bring young girls
- 19:58and women to not just a be Lawns but watching football in their
- 20:03own communities as well and observant.
- 20:05Yeah, indeed, let's just touch on the management structure very
- 20:10briefly before we go to our next ad break.
- 20:13In terms of you've got done, Lolly, they're in charge.
- 20:16He's made a few changes to his sort of management structure.
- 20:19Again, just bringing in some experience there with a couple
- 20:21of coaches from Lester. Yeah, you know, I mean dance at
- 20:24down the end of the season and we wanted to make sure in line
- 20:27with you know the players we brought in and everything we're
- 20:29doing off the pitch that the coaching set Match that and we
- 20:33were giving you know, for me if we want to get the best players
- 20:35in, we need to have the best facilities.
- 20:37We need to have the best coaching.
- 20:39We need to have the best match day experience, you know,
- 20:41everything needs to be the best, it can be.
- 20:43So the coaches we wanted to bring in a couple of new
- 20:46coaches, that can give, you know, real good expertise, you
- 20:50know, for training sessions. We've also brought in a new
- 20:53goalkeeper coach as well. It's got plating experience as
- 20:55well. Yeah, so you know with as well
- 20:58as strengthening the squad, we've also strengthening, you
- 21:00know, the coaching set up. Yeah.
- 21:01As well, that's vitally important.
- 21:02It's a native of those new players coming in to know that
- 21:04there is that structure behind the management.
- 21:08And that experience, I mean, Harry McLean, and Adam Thompson
- 21:10have come straight from Leicester again and their first
- 21:14team coaches at Peterborough United.
- 21:16Women, you've got a marketer who stepped up to be assistant.
- 21:19Now to Dan and it's stevecori who's coming as goalkeeping
- 21:22coach. Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:24You know, again being professionals.
- 21:25We can we've now got full coaching setup including an
- 21:29analyst Target me words out. You know, free coaches?
- 21:33Yeah, Dan goalkeeping coach, we've got, you know, for media
- 21:36team Etc. So what we run, as a
- 21:38professional football club because, you know, I'm a strong
- 21:40believer in, you're never going to be able to get to becoming a
- 21:43proper professional football club if you don't try and act
- 21:45like one so, you know, we're yeah, we're doing everything
- 21:48right with building and hopefully this isn't be really
- 21:50good. Yeah, you're giving the women,
- 21:51the tools, the tools, and not just the first team effectively,
- 21:55but also all the way through the gills Academy structure that
- 21:57opportunity to tap into those resources.
- 22:01These and apply themselves with the tools that they've been
- 22:04given. Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:05We've obviously got, you know, the full girls Academy now.
- 22:07So we every year my kind of manager Chloe Brown will, you
- 22:11know, need to be bringing players through into the first
- 22:13team and she's done that she's been fantastic.
- 22:15So, you know, it's only right that once I do get to the first
- 22:18team, they've got the best coaches possible.
- 22:20Yeah, and I suppose it's that close working relationship that
- 22:23you have within that structure that you've got for the way from
- 22:25yourself down, you mentioned, Chloe, there and the other
- 22:28coaches through the academy structure that allows people.
- 22:31Used to be a perhaps identified or just kept an eye on as to if
- 22:34you feel. They've got the ability to step
- 22:36up a couple of age groups, especially when they're a little
- 22:38bit younger. Yeah, 100%, everyone's very
- 22:40close-knit and you know, all the other girls in the academy, they
- 22:42have idps. They have you know, training
- 22:44plans of where we might see them in however many years.
- 22:47So, you know, there's a number of girls coming through.
- 22:49So it's really, really exciting moment.
- 22:52Really, really exciting. You know, we've obviously had
- 22:53the new signings which are huge for us, but we've got a few gems
- 22:57coming through. I know the German likes to use
- 22:59that one. I've been around him a lot.
- 23:04Yeah, we've got a few coming through that will be really
- 23:05exciting this season. Yeah, it's great to have those
- 23:07homegrown players as well. Isn't it talent coming through
- 23:09your own production line, effectively and then local fans
- 23:15can relate to them as well. Can't they haven't grown up with
- 23:17them? Perhaps, and perhaps even been
- 23:19at school with them, or being in and around and watching them all
- 23:22the way from the 16th to the 23s, and all the way to the
- 23:24first team as well. Absolutely.
- 23:26Again, like we said earlier, for the young girls that are coming
- 23:28through Peterborough, we hope that, you know, we get Ago in
- 23:32under seven under, right? In the pre Academy and in 10
- 23:35years, time the plane in the first team, that's the real aim.
- 23:37But for me, it's not just about that, not all of them are going
- 23:40to make it very few of them will make it but you know, if we can
- 23:43develop them as people as well, then, yeah, fantastic cracker
- 23:46stuff right here. It's going to take another ad
- 23:48break and that's Bobby. Copying woman's general manager
- 23:51at Peterborough United. Just giving us the lowdown and
- 23:54Ashley from the women's section of the football club itself,
- 23:57just talking about the management structure and
- 24:00touching on the great success that they had.

- 25:43You're listening to PCR Sports. Good evening, welcome back to
- 25:52apcr sports here, on pc r FM. This evening were chatting to
- 25:56Bobby copping, woman's general manager at Peterborough United,
- 25:59and he's got Gary Reed sitting in the background here as well.
- 26:04Just giving him a few verbals as well.
- 26:05Just making sure he gets all the relevant messages cross.
- 26:08So Gary's the head of women's administration at Peterborough
- 26:13United, but we were just talking there about on the pitch, the
- 26:17management structure, the success of last year with the
- 26:20The Fantastic run in the in the women's FA Cup and the county
- 26:25cup success. They league position, which was
- 26:29absolutely fantastic to win last over season and finish fourth,
- 26:32was it for ya? Finish top five in the league.
- 26:37Let's have a little chat about the five-year strategy.
- 26:40You're very much focused on that, and when we've had
- 26:44conversations leading up to the show tonight, you've really
- 26:47emphasize that point that, you know, this doesn't happen by
- 26:49chance. There is a strategy.
- 26:51Place and everything is geared around that your motivations
- 26:56where you getting that from in terms of the way it's developed
- 26:58so far and that strategy itself the influence from other clubs,
- 27:02perhaps that you've had on it as well and the Professionals in
- 27:05the game. Yeah, so I'm obviously quite
- 27:06lucky that with the network that I've got managed to develop the
- 27:11strategy with a guy called Jeff Wilson, who has developed, you
- 27:14won't believe this 96 federation's strategies.
- 27:18Wow, in all sports. So on my mark, Has degree in
- 27:21Sports Direct ship. He actually came on and
- 27:23delivered, you know, a strategy Master Class, basically and then
- 27:26I've kept in touch with him. So yeah, the strategy for me,
- 27:28was probably the biggest part of work that I've done at the club
- 27:32today without a strategy. I just believe, you know, you'll
- 27:36probably end up going around in circles, you know, there's no
- 27:39Direction. The strategy for me is so
- 27:41important in aligning everyone, you know, will the staff having
- 27:44something to work towards and making sure that, you know, this
- 27:47is the goal set out and if we reach it fantastic, if we don't
- 27:50reach it up, Why haven't we, you know, why haven't we in?
- 27:53And let's change that. So the strategy consists of our
- 27:56vision, our mission, our values offer that with, then got five
- 28:00strategic pillars, which are sustainability, professionalism,
- 28:04community staff development and Player Development.
- 28:06So they're 25 real things we believe in and, you know,
- 28:10everything all the targets and all the resources are put into
- 28:13them five, things offer that we've got five year targets to
- 28:18your targets and one your targets, then one year KP Guys
- 28:21are broken down into action plans, so, you know, it's a real
- 28:24robust structure. It doesn't happen by chance.
- 28:26And like I said to you before, there's no coincidence that
- 28:29everything we achieve this season was in the strategy.
- 28:32So, yeah, like I said, for me, it's issue and it is the reason
- 28:37and it's it must be very reassuring to have the backing
- 28:39of the chairman and the, the ownership group as well, because
- 28:43we know thoughts. Jason nearly is very much, an
- 28:45advocate of the women's game as well with his daughters plane.
- 28:49So again, that must give you great confidence.
- 28:51Vincent, give the women's side of the football club, The
- 28:53Confidence. It needs to go in and develop
- 28:55the way is developing at the moment.
- 28:57Yeah, absolutely. I think the key for us as well
- 28:59when a big, you know, thing that we celebrate the club and going
- 29:02linking back to the Strategic pillars, we run completely
- 29:05sustainably the gout, the whole of the girls Academy, the whole
- 29:08of the woman setup is all sustainable and the fact that,
- 29:11you know, we've got an ownership like we have and the chairman
- 29:14which, you know, they're all they're all fantastic in helping
- 29:17us achieve what we want to achieve and in terms of the
- 29:19investment and and, you know, Making it possible to deliver
- 29:22the strategy we want. We want to deliver.
- 29:24Yeah, one of the pillars. You mentioned, those Community
- 29:28you briefly touched on it? Just before the break about,
- 29:31sadly. Not every player can make it in
- 29:33the game as they come through the structure that you've got
- 29:36there as well. And it's making them.
- 29:38I suppose educating them not just on the football pitch, but
- 29:41giving them the opportunity with life skills as they get older
- 29:44and the opportunity perhaps to coach or taking those skills
- 29:47into other walks of life as well.
- 29:49Absolutely, I think communities, probably Biggest Pillar To be
- 29:51honest because you know you will know yourself without fans and
- 29:55without the community, you don't have a football club.
- 29:56Yeah. And you know, we're very
- 29:58grateful to the fans and the support that we've we've had in
- 30:01the growth we've seen in that. So and on the other side of
- 30:04things one, you know we want to offer loads of opportunities for
- 30:07families and young fans. And you know, the old older fans
- 30:11that come and watch us, give them loads of opportunities, to
- 30:13have a really good experience on a match day, but also on the
- 30:16other side of things, we want to give an elite professional
- 30:18environment to our young players and give I'm the best chance to
- 30:21develop as a person. Firstly, and also as a player,
- 30:24secondly, the pub, you're obviously mention the five year
- 30:28strategy there, Bobby. How far are you into that
- 30:30strategy? And if you can reveal any of it,
- 30:32what else is left to achieve? Yes, we're done the first year,
- 30:36basically. So, the first year was
- 30:39effectively, the first UK p is building towards the second
- 30:43objectives. So, the second, the second year,
- 30:45sort of objectives are to develop the commercial Revenue
- 30:49to a certain point. There's obviously a specific
- 30:51number on there that we're going to get promoted to tear free.
- 30:56So, you know, for the players and staff this season, that will
- 30:58be the main objective here tonight.
- 31:02Any other place, that is things that challenge like this.
- 31:06There's Dallas challenge to the men's first team and there's
- 31:08your challenge to the, the women's team.
- 31:11Absolutely nothing. That will be, that will be very
- 31:13clear for the players and staff in our preseason training, my
- 31:15meeting with them all. But yeah.
- 31:17So there's there's many, many objectives, and the key.
- 31:20With a strategy as well, is that it's broken down into every
- 31:23Department, every Department, you know, the head of that
- 31:25department has got, its got them, kpi's and Target.
- 31:28So again, like I said, no one could not be bought into the
- 31:32strategy if I make sense and it helps us, you know, developing a
- 31:35real good culture that, you know, if you have a right
- 31:39culture and you have the right people in place, then you'd like
- 31:42to think that you're going to deliver on your strategy.
- 31:44And I guess when you got that accountability for everyone at
- 31:46every level of the club, then everyone's as brought into that
- 31:50strategy. And everyone knows exactly what
- 31:51they need to do and what their job is part of that strategy and
- 31:54and therefore everyone's accountable and like, 100%.
- 31:56You know, everyone was everyone was a part of making the
- 31:59strategies, not just like, I've put someone in front of everyone
- 32:01going, you've got to follow that, you know, I'm a big
- 32:03believer in being personable and and bringing people together.
- 32:06Yeah, exactly. So, you know, the strategy was
- 32:09formed by everyone, which means everyone's bought into it and
- 32:12everyone's running the same direction which means, you know,
- 32:14we're going to achieve success, much faster and much easier.
- 32:16Yeah. And they may be bumps along the
- 32:17way, you know? But it's about how you were
- 32:20reacting. It to them and adapt the
- 32:22strategy that goes with it as well.
- 32:23There'll be many bumps. And you know, there has been
- 32:25many bumps and and that's, you know, you're never going to have
- 32:28a strategy where you put it out and you're going to do
- 32:30everything on it straight away. You know, there's going to be
- 32:33bumps and that's why we've got to have, you know, succession
- 32:37plan in place. And make sure that when these
- 32:38things do happen, we've then got a plan.
- 32:40Mmm, he took over mention Community a lot and I think it's
- 32:44a vital part of any sporting club whether you be amateur or
- 32:47professional and it's no different from the men.
- 32:50I'd bet let's make sure we focus on the woman's to Gary mentioned
- 32:54just off their about the mascots and the initiative to bring
- 32:59girls teams to watch games as well.
- 33:01Do you can elaborate a little bit more on that as well?
- 33:03Yeah, absolutely. Again it I think it comes back
- 33:05to the strategy again within the strategy and specifically
- 33:08carries part and the media's part, there was stuff about
- 33:12giveaways, there was stuff about the mascot Peterborough and also
- 33:16our women's mascot Larry the penguin being at match days you
- 33:20know, half Tom entertainment in terms of, you know, everything
- 33:23that we can offer for that match day experience.
- 33:24So when these young fans do come and they see Peterborough they
- 33:28see Lori the penguin or they get the chance to be mascot because
- 33:31Gary's you know, done that from which is fantastic.
- 33:34All of these experiences are going to, hopefully make them
- 33:37come back each week and you know if we continue to build that
- 33:41everything's going to grow from there.
- 33:42So you know it's fantastic fans for life are potentially as well
- 33:47as also getting him involved in the game as well.
- 33:50Whether it be on a social Your level 0 going through the
- 33:52academy structure itself and representing, you know, it's
- 33:54really nice to see now, we've got a number of our young
- 33:57players in the garlic, add me whether they be under 9, under
- 33:5910, whatever, they come to the first team game.
- 34:01So, you know, again, it's over the past two years is been a lot
- 34:05of hard work, you know, a lot of Blood, Sweat and Tears.
- 34:08But the point we're at now is was really starting to see the
- 34:11benefits from all that hard work.
- 34:12And, you know, we hope is only going to get better.
- 34:14Yeah. And having the lights of Gary, I
- 34:16will mention in this, he is sitting there bit shy to, come
- 34:19on now himself, but In terms of that structure behind the scenes
- 34:23are so to speak, that's vitally important.
- 34:25As part of the strategy that you've put in place.
- 34:28But also making sure that there's that reassurance that if
- 34:32you need that support that it's there for you as well.
- 34:34I can't believe you've got two mentions.
- 34:38Yeah, no, absolutely. I think the thing with it is
- 34:40that you got the five-year strategy, we've got an
- 34:42organizational structure or for that, and we've got the budget
- 34:45in the resources off of that and a financial forecast, you know,
- 34:47to match the strategy and without people like Sorry.
- 34:51And I will big him up because what he does, for the club is
- 34:53unbelievable. And there's others as well.
- 34:55And I challenge was here tonight, but so many people,
- 34:58make sure some people, but Gary and particular work, he does is
- 35:01unbelievable. Yeah, you know, without them we
- 35:03wouldn't we wouldn't have got to where we are now and now we're
- 35:06starting to professionalize thing and grow, you know, it's
- 35:09even better. And really, really excited for
- 35:11everyone involved. Yep.
- 35:12Let's have a quick chat about the academy structure, then
- 35:15starting all the way from under seven under 8, all the way
- 35:18through to the first team, effectively.
- 35:22How do you see that developing you've got the emerging Talent
- 35:24Center as well, which is obviously came into place last
- 35:26season. If I'm right here saying that
- 35:30and a positive outlook on the way that players can be
- 35:34developed through that structure and towards the first team.
- 35:37Yeah, absolutely. Again comes under to the
- 35:39professionalism, two years ago, we had a first team and a
- 35:42reserve team and that was it. Now we've got the academy, which
- 35:46under that comes the seven & eight, which is a pre Academy,
- 35:49the emerging Talent Center, which is under 9 On the 16s and
- 35:52then you're under 23 S. So you know we're giving players
- 35:54a real long amount of time to get into our first team and
- 36:00again like I said developing them as people developing them
- 36:02as players and hopefully by the time they got to the first team
- 36:05you know we've got an all-rounded person that yes
- 36:07they're going to be fantastic for our first team but also
- 36:10they're going to do you know really good things outside of
- 36:12football team. Those ambassador's for you as
- 36:13well. And you've said, you know, with
- 36:15certainty, see on the socials, for example, and there's many,
- 36:17many a women's player from last season as well.
- 36:19That was so engaged. Aging and it's great to see
- 36:22after the games that born, for example, they want photographs
- 36:26the fans, the photographs taken autographs signed, for example.
- 36:30And that makes a huge difference to that integration of bringing
- 36:32the fans along on the journey. Absolutely.
- 36:34Again, it's about being immersive.
- 36:36Giving them an immersive experience and making that match
- 36:39date as fantastic for these young fans as we can.
- 36:42And that was another of Gary's ideas, which I hate to say, is
- 36:47that But you know, yeah. Anything that we can do again.
- 36:54It's all in the strategy. Yeah.
- 36:57You know to make the experience better is only going to drive
- 36:59our fan base and help us grow. I think that's probably one
- 37:02different one major difference. I do see between the men's game
- 37:04of the women's game post-match, especially where is he?
- 37:08See ya. All men's matches they'll go
- 37:11back down the changing of down the tunnel after the match.
- 37:14After applauding, the the fans, whereas some of the women's
- 37:17football. I've certainly seen in, we're
- 37:18not just talking at Peterborough United to level it.
- 37:20Tear for, you know, the higher up, you go.
- 37:25You do see those England players engaging with those fans a
- 37:28post-match and not want to just get down the tunnel and get
- 37:31changed and and be at the club, for example?
- 37:34Yeah, no. Actually it's really important
- 37:35for us and you know, has been time to season where we've lost
- 37:37games. But we've made it clear to the
- 37:39players and Gary's almost block the tunnel turn turn around.
- 37:42You ain't going down until they sign autographs and and take
- 37:46photos with these young fans because you know to a player
- 37:48it's just an autograph for a photo but to these young fans
- 37:50You know that makes a year makes their life so again and shows
- 37:55that they are role models to these young players coming
- 37:57through. Yeah.
- 37:58And you know, they'll go into school on a Monday morning for
- 38:00example, you know. And if it's been a positive
- 38:02result, great if not. Hopefully they're still had a
- 38:04positive experience off the pitch with the engagement,
- 38:07they've had with the players. Exactly.
- 38:09And, you know, we're not going to grow fan base if we're not
- 38:11offering positive experiences and and the best experience
- 38:14possible. So like I said earlier, on the
- 38:16pitch off the pitch, we make sure that we do everything, you
- 38:18know correctly. Yep.
- 38:19And just a quick shout out. Out as well to the urban penguin
- 38:22sponsors credible, massive part of the development that have
- 38:25been shown by the women's side in in recent years as well.
- 38:28Just a quick shout-out for the importance of sponsorship and
- 38:32the opportunity to get involved as well with the club.
- 38:36Unbelievable. You know, in terms of I think
- 38:38about parkrun as well, for example, dressed up initially,
- 38:40you know, not just for me personally, more charity, but
- 38:43especially for the woman and the football club, what Andrew
- 38:47Mallet in the oven penguin does for, you know, the Setup is
- 38:51fantastic. And it, you know, it's not just
- 38:53financially, it's everything that he offers, you know, he's
- 38:57coming on the pre-season training camp with us which
- 38:59again, without him, we wouldn't be able to do that.
- 39:01So yeah, you know, I can't say enough positive things about,
- 39:05you know, him and the oven penguin cracking stuff, right?
- 39:07It's gonna have to go to another outbreak.
- 39:09Now, we're rapidly running it at a time on the show this evening.
- 39:12After that, we'll be talking about the season ahead with
- 39:15Bobby Queensgate. Has your favorite big name

- 41:41you PC our Sports here on pc r FM.
- 41:44We've been chatting to Bobby copping, woman's general manager
- 41:47at Peterborough United, and if you have missed the first 150
- 41:50minutes of the show will. So this evening, you can listen
- 41:52back to us on the PCR affirm website, which is PCR FM, .co.uk
- 41:57and just make your way to the listen.
- 41:59Again, section Bobby's, just Talking about the five-year
- 42:03strategy, the success of last year.
- 42:05And we're just going to finish the show.
- 42:06Now this evening by having a chat about the forthcoming
- 42:09season and hopes and aspirations for the women's team from a
- 42:14first-team level and also the weight all the way through the
- 42:16emerging talent, talent Center, and the under-16s, all the way
- 42:20through to the 23s as well. Bobby season started in Earnest.
- 42:25I know the first game's not till what the 20th of August first
- 42:29League game in anger, but a lot of the players As have already
- 42:32been out on that training field, being in the gym and working
- 42:36away to ensure that a good stand of a fitness before they get to,
- 42:42let's say, beasted this week in a couple of weeks time at the
- 42:46pre-season training camp. Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:48It's really good to see, especially for me and the
- 42:51manager and all the staff. You know, seeing the players go
- 42:54out their waiter, make sure when they come back.
- 42:56They're ready. And I think that's a product of
- 42:58the professionalism that we've increased.
- 43:00And and the new sign is, we've brought Then you know there's no
- 43:03hiding from every you know, every season we've improved the
- 43:06squad. So the players have got to be
- 43:09better and better each year if that you know they're going to
- 43:10get minutes and play games for this football club.
- 43:12So yeah. The the training camp will be
- 43:16huge for us again. Another thing that we offer that
- 43:19I don't think any of it therefore to free potentially
- 43:21Club to, you know, we're again, it's something professional.
- 43:26It gets everyone together. It's a team bonding and think.
- 43:28Yeah. And it also, you know, no hiding
- 43:31from, it gets Fitness up, but for the, especially the analyst
- 43:34you've got there as well, with, they can take all the
- 43:35measurements, can't they? Absolutely.
- 43:37We've got we've invested in data.
- 43:39So we've got GPS and all these sorts of data system.
- 43:42So, you know, for Dan and he spoke to me about his plans for
- 43:46the camp and apologies to the players already.
- 43:51You know, it'll only benefit them come the first game of the
- 43:53season. Yeah.
- 43:54And that's what the 7th 8th and 9th July, isn't it?
- 43:56So not this weekend, next weekend, coming up a workshop,
- 43:59private college and then you're into a Two friendlies when they
- 44:02returned 367 of them before the seasonal opener on the 20th of
- 44:06August. Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:08And I think this again was a, you know, real strategical in
- 44:11the pre-season friendly. So, we wanted to start with tier
- 44:15three teams really that, you know, we're not going to have
- 44:17the ball very much. So again, it's going to build
- 44:19Fitness and and give players time off the ball, so we can
- 44:23work on tactical shame for the ball, you know, and then coming
- 44:27into probably within six to, eight weeks time.
- 44:29We're playing against teams more round in the round.
- 44:31Level, you know, to try and be on the ball a little bit more
- 44:36and, you know, work on them side of things before the first home
- 44:39game on the 20th. Yeah.
- 44:41And one of the friendlies is Cambridge United women at home
- 44:44on the 6th of August, and that's open to the public.
- 44:48Yep. Yeah.
- 44:48So that's a be Lawns to a clock. You can mark that date down in
- 44:51your diary, if you are free. I local Derby in pre-season
- 44:55against Cambridge United, women Sunday, the 6th of, August,
- 44:57that, Abby, lawns in a to p.m. kickoff.
- 45:00But, yeah, you've got some From a man's perspective, certainly
- 45:03household names in there, you know, and they've got their own
- 45:05women's section. Now, the likes of wolves, it's,
- 45:08which Norwich less the city as well.
- 45:11So, you know, they're not going to be, it's not gonna be an easy
- 45:14preseason. Shall we send it?
- 45:16Perhaps shouldn't be an easy preseason?
- 45:17No, no that's been done on purpose.
- 45:19Yes. And yeah, we, we wanted to again
- 45:23Community. We wanted to give the fans some
- 45:25really good games in pre-season, you know, we're playing wolves.
- 45:27We've got Leicester city MKX Rich, know, whoever it is.
- 45:31Is they're all really good clubs that people can come down, enjoy
- 45:35and get a taste for what, you know, what they're going to see.
- 45:36This isn't had, yeah, and you got Norwich at home as well.
- 45:39I belong as well. So, you know, plenty of
- 45:41opportunities in pre-season during the school holidays, in
- 45:45opportunity for families to come down as well.
- 45:47You know, and see what Peterborough United women are.
- 45:51All about fixtures. Aren't out yet though out soon
- 45:5616th of July, 16th of July. Okay?
- 45:58And the first matches, the 20th of August, and And no doubt
- 46:02you'll be looking for the FA Cup drawer as well.
- 46:05Don't wait for that one. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:06That's a big one. This is.
- 46:08Yeah. And will that be the
- 46:09pre-qualifying again? I believe.
- 46:10So. Yeah.
- 46:11We come in the third round, qualifying.
- 46:13Yeah. And then it goes to the first
- 46:14round. Proper.
- 46:15Yeah. After that as well.
- 46:16So looking to emulate that success and then looking ahead
- 46:19to the club's that you'll be facing this season, you've got
- 46:22four new ones in the fa Women's National League Division 1,
- 46:27Midlands division that the Peterborough United women are
- 46:30in. You've got Sutton, coldfield,
- 46:31Knox County, women Boulder, Miss at Michaels and look, bro,
- 46:34lightning who no doubt, bring their own challenges.
- 46:37Yeah, absolutely. It will be another tough season,
- 46:39you know, there's some really good teams in this league.
- 46:41So for us, we've gotta make sure, you know, every training
- 46:44session, every game, the players and the staff do everything
- 46:46properly, they're professional. And hopefully we'd like to think
- 46:49from the players we brought in, you know, the recruitment we've
- 46:52done and what was put in place for this season.
- 46:54You know, off, I've made the Target Clear, already?
- 46:58It should have a really good season.
- 47:00Yeah. And when you look at, Sutton
- 47:02coldfield have been promoted, Notts County, both promoted.
- 47:06So they'll be on a high note out.
- 47:07I wanted to prove themselves at this level and that poses, its
- 47:10own challenges hundred percent. And the good thing with the
- 47:12league is that every clubs really different, and some
- 47:15gloves will play certain brand of football.
- 47:17For example, solihull Moors are very good passing the ball on
- 47:19the floor and you'll get other clubs that, you know, might play
- 47:22a bit longer. And again, it's time to their
- 47:25strength 100%. And that's why, you know, that's
- 47:27football and that's why, you know, the manager and the staff
- 47:30and the team have got to be prepared.
- 47:31Yeah, no not forgetting a couple of local derbies in there as
- 47:34well. For Posh fans, just to mark your
- 47:36card within the fix to come out and often town and Lincoln City
- 47:40as well. So, look out for those two
- 47:41fixtures. When the women's fixtures are
- 47:44released in middle of July depan this sort of level women say
- 47:49this, with all due respect that they saw level, when you compare
- 47:51it to say, you know, maybe the men's side for example, but how
- 47:55do you kind of do your homework on your opponent's?
- 47:57I mean, is that you send scouts out or is there is there data
- 48:00readily available? Had you kind of Dr. To analyze.
- 48:02What? Who you're going to be facing?
- 48:04Yeah, so previously, it was obviously very difficult but
- 48:06we've got, you know, it's called vo vo analysis, where it's like
- 48:11an amazing camera that tracks every sort of movement within a
- 48:14game. So we've got them where our head
- 48:18of analysis, you know, will any footage we can get from
- 48:21opposition teams, he'll analyze that and give it to the manager,
- 48:24whatever the manager needs. But also, we've got a little
- 48:27scouting group that, you know, they had of that scouting group.
- 48:31We'll send people out to different games.
- 48:34So for example, if we've got, I don't know.
- 48:36Solihull Moore's next weekend for this weekend's game.
- 48:39They'll go out and see them. They'll put a report together
- 48:41and I'll give it to the manager. So it just gives us another
- 48:44again, professionalism and gives us another sort of angle for the
- 48:47manager to really prep for that game.
- 48:49And it's kind of fine margin advantages over other clubs in
- 48:51it to doing that. Extra bit of work though,
- 48:53perhaps others are doing 100% And I've always been, you know,
- 48:55a big a big believer in 1% as a novice the same when I was a
- 48:58player and on the same now and every one percent that we Can
- 49:02gain, you know, that adds up and hopefully it means free points
- 49:06on a Sunday. Yeah, right.
- 49:07We're rapidly coming to the end of the show this evening and
- 49:09Bobby, it's been great catching up with you and hearing about
- 49:12the fabric that obviously went on last season.
- 49:14The developments that have taken place over the last few weeks
- 49:17and hopes and aspirations looking ahead to the 2324 season
- 49:22down at Abbey Lawns, which is where you play your home games
- 49:25as well. Fixtures throughout middle of
- 49:27July 1st game will be the 20th of August.
- 49:31Well, hopefully, that will be at home, Abby, Lawns, but will
- 49:34await those fixtures, and perhaps just a final word from
- 49:38you in terms of fans listening this evening and also hopes and
- 49:43aspirations for the forthcoming season.
- 49:45Yeah. I think if you, if you haven't
- 49:47been watching and you know, have a watch next season because you
- 49:50know what we're building and what we're delivering between
- 49:53our woman is issued and it's exciting and the football that
- 49:57we play is a real good brand of football.
- 49:59It's a real family experience. And No, real immersive
- 50:02experience that people can enjoy and in terms of hopes and
- 50:06aspirations, you know, it will be very clear to the players and
- 50:09staff in the and it's in the strategy.
- 50:11It will be to get promoted. It will be to get to the third
- 50:13round. FA Cup again will be to win the
- 50:14county cup, you know, there's no hiding from that and if we do
- 50:18everything that you know, we do we need to do, I've no doubt
- 50:20will achieve them things, brilliant stuff, Bobby thank you
- 50:23very much for your time this evening.
- 50:24It's great to have you back on the show as well and great to
- 50:27hear the fabulous work, that you may be the general manager of
- 50:31but But, you know, we mentioned Gary here, but everybody behind
- 50:33the scenes there as well. No, not everybody behind the
- 50:38scenes on and off the pitch, everybody for PCR Sports.
- 50:41Wishes, you all the best for the forthcoming season and we'll
- 50:45certainly keep a close eye on those fixtures and hopefully one
- 50:48or two of those games. If fixtures do for, kindly will
- 50:51be at the Western home, stadium as well, to give you that little
- 50:54bit more exposure, as well as the women's game now.
- 50:56Thank you for having me really appreciate, and not a problem,
- 50:58Gary. Thanks for coming, mate.
- 51:00Thanks for sitting in the background there.
- 51:01And we're going to finish the show this evening.
- 51:03We've got a bit of Ed Sheeran shape of you and we've got less
- 51:07wheeler coming up at seven but just leaves me to say.
- 51:10Thank you for listening very much.
- 51:12Appreciate your time on this Friday evening, whatever your
- 51:15plans, this weekend, whether you're playing spectating or
- 51:18volunteering, we do wish you a successful and enjoyable
- 51:21sporting weekends.
