- 0:07I just want to give my own family.
- 0:11I just want to tell my own family with you hello and
- 0:15welcome to arguing ever after. I am Luke and this is my fancy
- 0:20bride, Amber. Hello.
- 0:22Together we're the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:24The count and Countess of contention.
- 0:26The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:29And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:30In this podcast, we bicker about all things big and small, and
- 0:33the audience vote determines who the winner is.
- 0:38Many of our topics are frequently submitted by our
- 0:40listeners, which we like and enjoy.
- 0:43We would love for you to send them to us at arguingeverafter
- 0:46at gmailcom. Yeah, we would.
- 0:49That would be awesome because we have topics like we say, but
- 0:54we'd love some new ideas. You will see a brand new
- 0:58original idea today that will blow your minds.
- 1:00I'm just saying. Blow your minds.
- 1:03Blow your minds in honor of. Episode 38 that I'm gonna it
- 1:06will blow whole your minds. Wow, you'll get that, you'll get
- 1:11that. But for this episode on #38 we
- 1:16are. We are. 38.
- 1:18I don't know how we're doing that.
- 1:20That's a lot. We have some other I guess
- 1:24podcast friends who are on break for their season 2 and I
- 1:28thought, man, that's a smart idea to be a little break for a
- 1:33season 2, but I feel like we'd lose steam and they have 3.
- 1:39I like talking to you once a week.
- 1:42Yeah, not so much over there. Well, no, no, no.
- 1:46Does it feel like so too much work for you?
- 1:48No, but you know, like some days today I've I've had a little
- 1:52sinusy thing and so if you hear it, you know, there's certainly
- 1:58also we could like build up our. Yeah, we just got to put a put a
- 2:02couple of in the Kitty. Again, Yep, Yep, couple of.
- 2:06Backup episodes. But we can't because the
- 2:08audience audience wants. But the audience wants.
- 2:11That's true. And our audience, again, is
- 2:14growing. It is.
- 2:15It is growing like we like to do.
- 2:18We are going to say hello to our two new states, which are.
- 2:23Kentucky. Yes.
- 2:25And New Hampshire. Yes, and we also did a little
- 2:28research about them. I remember one thing.
- 2:31OK, let's hear. It the motto of the great state
- 2:34of New Hampshire is Live Free or Die.
- 2:37I knew that was a state motto, but I didn't know it was there.
- 2:41Makes sense that it would be one of the 13 original colonies.
- 2:45And I learned something that actually I.
- 2:48Wait, is it one of the 13? Probably.
- 2:51I mean, it's in the right area. I think it might.
- 2:53It must. Be Boston, NY, New Hampshire.
- 2:56Yeah, I'm I'm real sure I. Don't think Maine was.
- 2:59I don't know, Virginia. Was.
- 3:02But sorry again, this is an opportunity where we could like
- 3:07educate folks. OK, sometimes I just I just
- 3:10rabble on. But I was gonna educate folks on
- 3:14something. I was misinformed and you were
- 3:16misinformed. Tell me about it.
- 3:19What we learned about the other state was that it is the birth
- 3:23place. Kentucky, yes, is the birth
- 3:25place of Abraham Lincoln. And Kentucky Fried Chicken.
- 3:29Yes. And imagine that.
- 3:31I don't know why. I was like, of course they are,
- 3:34of course they are. But I always thought that old
- 3:39Lincoln was born in Illinois, but he must have just lived
- 3:42there for a long time. Or maybe he was a border baby.
- 3:46Maybe. Maybe.
- 3:48All I know is he liked to chop wood when he was angry.
- 3:52Is. That what he did, yeah.
- 3:54Huh. Do you know what else he did?
- 3:56Wrote angry letters and then never sent them on purpose?
- 3:59I. Didn't know it about him.
- 4:00It was the way for him to cope with the, yeah, I don't know,
- 4:04the pressures of, of his presidency.
- 4:08I guess he did it too when he was a lawyer.
- 4:11Like before he would like write angry letters and justice keep
- 4:15them. It's not a terrible idea.
- 4:17I didn't. You just get it all out on AER,
- 4:20Yeah, all your, all your whatever, rage and fury and then
- 4:23just put it in a drawer. Well, I mean, the main things I
- 4:28think of when I think of Abraham Lincoln is his wife, Mary
- 4:31Lincoln. That's one of the main things.
- 4:34OK, I do not. I mean, that's I, I apologize.
- 4:38Yeah. To you and everyone.
- 4:40Yeah, she was very obsessed with clairvoyancy.
- 4:43Oh yeah, maybe This is why I've not heard much about her
- 4:46specifically. Well, yeah, could.
- 4:48She not have been slightly more clairvoyant on the night he got
- 4:51shot. No, she wasn't.
- 4:52She liked Claire. Like she was into it.
- 4:55She was into she wanted Miss Cleo.
- 4:57Yes, she did. Help her out.
- 4:59She did. She wanted.
- 5:00Miss Cleo, she was calling her now, Called me no.
- 5:03But it was a scandal, right? So it was, Yeah, I know, I know.
- 5:09So that's why it's not the like largest known fact about we had
- 5:14to hide her. Feel like the larger known facts
- 5:16is that it's Lincoln. Right, I know.
- 5:20I'm just saying like she's. Not the only First Lady who had
- 5:24an obsession with psychics. Did you know that Nancy Reagan
- 5:28also did, and they hid that too? She may have actually been able
- 5:32to talk to the real Miss Cleo. I bet you she well.
- 5:36Did their timelines cross? Yeah, yeah.
- 5:39I feel like they do. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:41Okay, now I wanna know and I wish.
- 5:44We need that third device here on the ready to just start
- 5:47looking stuff up. Like did Nancy Reagan ever talk
- 5:50to Miss Cleo? We gotta know these things.
- 5:52I don't know. But Speaking of Miss Cleo, our
- 5:55Little Miss Cleo. The dog for those of you who
- 5:58don't live in our house. Yep, she ate some of our
- 6:02homework. She did.
- 6:04She's eaten actually a number of homeworks at this point.
- 6:06Yes, but this one for our podcast so she.
- 6:09Also ate one of my writings. She did, but if we were wrong
- 6:14about New Hampshire, I'm blaming the dog.
- 6:16If we've already welcomed you, welcome back.
- 6:19And Kentucky. But Are you sure we haven't?
- 6:21I know we haven't. Yeah.
- 6:22So. So, Live Free or die and
- 6:25Kentucky Fried Chicken. Yes, yes.
- 6:26So those are very important. Feel like Lincoln's a better
- 6:29claim to fame, although Kentucky Fried Chicken is delicious.
- 6:33It's everywhere. Also, you know, I mean, like
- 6:36it's outlasted Lincoln. Look at it now that's true.
- 6:39I mean, well, maybe he's. Definitely older than him at
- 6:41this point. Is it?
- 6:42Yeah, that actually I don't know, but it is more current.
- 6:45Than for sure older than. Like very relevant today.
- 6:48You can find him on street corners all over actually.
- 6:52Like that's worldwide. I feel like we saw.
- 6:57I feel like I've seen AKFC in Mexico.
- 7:00You know what else I've seen in Mexico?
- 7:02What have you seen in Mexico? The ocean.
- 7:04You've seen the ocean in Mexico. I have.
- 7:07I've also seen the ocean in Mexico.
- 7:11I would like to see the ocean again one day in Mexico.
- 7:13You know what I'm really mad about?
- 7:15No. That I used all my time off for
- 7:18surgery. I'm well, it's not all my time
- 7:21off, but almost all my time off. I'm for.
- 7:23Surgery. Happy for the surgery.
- 7:25My leg works again. Yeah, but it's spring break,
- 7:28literally like right now. Like it starts tomorrow for our
- 7:32child. No, it doesn't, does it?
- 7:34Or maybe the end of the school day.
- 7:36Yeah. Maybe.
- 7:37Yeah. Maybe.
- 7:39Well, yeah, tomorrow's Friday. That's right.
- 7:41Yep. And we had a whole week off and
- 7:43nothing. We do have so.
- 7:45Vacation's expensive, so maybe it's for the best, but it's not
- 7:48for the best when your heart is in Mexico eating oh so much
- 7:53delicious food. Yeah.
- 7:55Oh, and we're back to eating fish again, which was our last
- 7:57episode. It was.
- 7:59I would eat so much fish. Well, I think.
- 8:02Let's just say screw it and go for it.
- 8:05I mean, I wish, I wish there was an option, but I think we are.
- 8:09Why? Are we boring, responsible
- 8:11adults? I don't know.
- 8:12I don't know, but I think we kind of have to be.
- 8:14There's only so much you can do and I think this is something
- 8:17that a lot of our audience will relate to, that they want to go
- 8:23on vacation but they can't, whether it be time off or
- 8:26whether. It be I mean I'm disgusted with
- 8:28myself right now at how boring and old I am.
- 8:31Well, I mean, I don't know if you're that boring and that old.
- 8:35Thanks. Keep talking.
- 8:36This is a good side. Let's keep going.
- 8:38That boring. Let's dig in.
- 8:40I didn't say. Please explain.
- 8:42Fully on boring. And do tell the audience is
- 8:46dying to. Hear what you have to say.
- 8:48Well, that was period. I don't know if you're that
- 8:51boring and. That was the end of the
- 8:52sentence. So it wasn't actually an
- 8:55affirmation that I was, in fact, not boring or old.
- 8:59It was that there's a chance I may not be.
- 9:01Yeah. And And you don't have any
- 9:04further evidence to present to the court.
- 9:06I mean, I didn't know this was on trial today.
- 9:10I didn't. Know this?
- 9:10That's too funny. I didn't know this was up for
- 9:13debate today, so. It's it's not.
- 9:18Remember, I need time for research and.
- 9:20And, well, that one wouldn't be hard to research.
- 9:22Let's be. Honest, well, I don't know, I am
- 9:25claiming again a little bit of sickness and a slower brain and
- 9:31sometimes when that happens you don't get the sharpest person so
- 9:36you. Know who doesn't have the slow
- 9:38brain? No idea.
- 9:41Somebody on hallucinogens? That's really true.
- 9:44And I'm going to, I'm going to back that up with the reason I
- 9:47bring it up because we don't talk about illicit
- 9:52hallucinogenics on our podcast. Would you like to share with the
- 9:56with the group what I'm bringing up?
- 9:58So, Luke. Because this is very exciting to
- 10:01me. Luke's been trying to do a
- 10:02little segue here a couple times, which is really.
- 10:05Really try so hard. I could keep going.
- 10:07I know I really could. I got them just packed away.
- 10:11OK, wonderful, wonderful. Let's hear another one well.
- 10:15That's not why do you got to put me on that because you said.
- 10:17That you had another one. Well anyhow, so I really like
- 10:22podcasts. I've been listening to them for
- 10:23a long time. You usually may or may not get
- 10:28into podcasting if you don't like listening to them.
- 10:31That's fair. But there's some that I've been
- 10:34listening to like that really pulled me in and made me think
- 10:38like this is just a great a great outlet.
- 10:42And one of them that has been on my like top favorites list is
- 10:49called ridiculous crimes. And it's this podcast there's
- 10:55Zarin and Elizabeth, the two hosts of this podcast, and
- 10:59they'll talk about interesting crimes that happened throughout
- 11:03history. You but it it's not like a
- 11:06murdery 1. So for folks who are, you know,
- 11:09kind of squeamish about some of the, I don't know, some of those
- 11:14details, you know, like. Murder.
- 11:16Like murder. If you're, I guess if you're
- 11:18squeamish about murder, there you go.
- 11:23It's a really good podcast for folks who like that.
- 11:27Do they or don't like? Do they cover ridiculous crimes
- 11:30like the ones the ridiculous laws?
- 11:34Sometimes law. Like don't get a moose drunk
- 11:37after midnight in Alaska or something.
- 11:39There is some weird law like that and I don't remember the.
- 11:41Specifics, I'll tell you sometimes when you listen to
- 11:45what they'll talk about is just a crime that is just so bizarre
- 11:50and and funny and they they're hilarious when they talk about
- 11:52it. They're all super smart.
- 11:54I enjoy listening to them, but sometimes after their episode,
- 11:59they'll talk about a law that maybe was created not after
- 12:02during their episode, they'll talk about a law that was
- 12:04created because of whatever the stupid crime was.
- 12:09As a matter of fact, very recently they had an episode,
- 12:12yes, that was released on an important day for us.
- 12:17It was. March 24th and this episode In
- 12:22this episode they did talk about a law that was created
- 12:25afterwards, but I. Which was don't take
- 12:29hallucinogens while swimming with dolphins I.
- 12:33No, no, no. But what I want to do is just
- 12:37tell these folks is so I I. Guarantee their curiosity's
- 12:41piqued right now I. Know you just be let me.
- 12:45Talk. I can't.
- 12:47He can't. But anyhow, I was listening to
- 12:49the episode and like I said, I've been a huge fan for years.
- 12:54And they do this thing on their show called a Talkback where you
- 12:58can certainly record whatever it is.
- 13:01And I was listening to the show and they were wrapping up their
- 13:04show and all of a sudden I hear this voice that is familiar to
- 13:08me. Yeah.
- 13:10And I was like, all of a sudden it was really familiar to me.
- 13:15Yeah, it was me. It was you.
- 13:18It was me, yeah. And I was talking, well, I said
- 13:21what I felt about their show and I said to Luke, you've got to
- 13:26listen to this podcast immediately because I we don't
- 13:31listen to the same podcasts all the time.
- 13:33We don't. We rarely do.
- 13:36I think we both listen to this podcast.
- 13:38You're it. But anyhow, but he, he didn't
- 13:43listen for a little bit, but I was so, so excited to hear
- 13:46myself on that podcast. And I kind of feel like we were
- 13:50on that podcast. We kind of I mean we kind of
- 13:53work because you said that we have a podcast yeah.
- 13:57Arguing ever after yeah. And then they said after they.
- 14:01I don't wanna like you should listen to the podcast folks like
- 14:04for. Sure, but they said to listen to
- 14:06our podcast. Well, they said they would
- 14:08listen. They would listen.
- 14:09Well, we gotta mention. We did.
- 14:12And they said they'd give us a listen.
- 14:14But I think they're really awesome and I was blown away and
- 14:17I'm glad that you eventually listened cuz you know, for me
- 14:21it's like I said, listen and you should be listening that moment.
- 14:25Like I send this thing. You do that to me too though.
- 14:28Luco, send me a song. Be like listen to this and I'm
- 14:30like 2. Weeks later, I'm like, did you
- 14:31listen to that song? And you're like, what song?
- 14:34Yeah, but this was a big deal because it was mentioned.
- 14:36For sure a bigger deal than something you're interested in,
- 14:40right? Actually on there it was on
- 14:41there, which is cool. Yeah.
- 14:42So if anyone wants to listen again, it's ridiculous crimes.
- 14:48They're I mean. Side note, they're not paying
- 14:50us. No, not at all.
- 14:52Not at all. Just wanna make that clear.
- 14:53They didn't, we didn't get, we didn't pay them to be.
- 14:57On that's there was no there was no monies.
- 14:59No exchanged, no monies, but I was really excited for it.
- 15:04Now I would put their show. In general, I would say it's
- 15:07pretty PG13, but Luke felt that maybe this episode is not
- 15:13appropriate for some of our younger.
- 15:15And that's fine. Audience members, and that is
- 15:17do. You know what is appropriate for
- 15:18our audience members? No going to the beach.
- 15:22Is it? Yeah, I just saw a nice picture
- 15:24over there of a Wharf. I tell you the the.
- 15:29On our wall, it's a beautiful picture of Florida, one of our
- 15:31favorite spots. It is one of our wow, you cannot
- 15:35get off of the beach and all of. That just love it wanna be there
- 15:39Spring break is in the air man. People are from Minnesota
- 15:43anyway, March in Minnesota is spring break month and.
- 15:47You've said that. It's like all I see it's, you
- 15:49know, I'm scrolling through Facebook and I'm, it's all
- 15:53anyone's talking about at work and.
- 15:55Last time we were at the beach was in October.
- 15:59Yes. Yeah.
- 16:00Wait. Was it September?
- 16:01Was it October? It was October.
- 16:03Yeah, it was October cuz Halloween.
- 16:05Yes, yes. And when I say the beach, yes,
- 16:07we have beach. Let's work out this shirt.
- 16:09Yes. And when I say the beach, the
- 16:12beaches that I'm talking about is the ocean.
- 16:15We were at the ocean and Luke and our daughter were actually
- 16:19in the ocean. I went in there for a little
- 16:21bit, but I like to, I like to feel the sun around me.
- 16:28I don't like to be cold and sometimes the water is a little
- 16:31cold in the ocean. So I have a very short lifespan
- 16:34of being in the water. But I enjoy sitting at the back,
- 16:39like on the shore. I had this, I don't know,
- 16:42freaking heard of seagulls. I don't know you would flock A
- 16:47flock. There you go, A.
- 16:48Flock of seals. I feel like a herd would be cool
- 16:50too. But it was like a herd.
- 16:51There were so many. There were hundreds of seagulls.
- 16:54I purposefully sat right next to you, and I've been kind of
- 16:56watching them. All of a sudden, out of the
- 16:58corner of my eye, I look out at the ocean and I see my husband
- 17:04and her daughter there, and then these little bobbing fins of
- 17:09dolphins right around Luke and Delilah.
- 17:13And of course I'm like yelling. And if you ever try yelling at
- 17:16the beach or the ocean, no one's hearing anything.
- 17:19Nobody heard anything. But I would say within a couple
- 17:21feet. And so then I quickly wisely
- 17:24grab my phone to take some video so I can show them because they
- 17:28had no clue that within feet of them there were dolphins
- 17:32swimming around them. And when they got back to the
- 17:36beach, I said, did you see those dolphins?
- 17:40And they were like, Nope, not at all.
- 17:42Didn't see them. Are you kidding me?
- 17:44And I said that's OK cuz I got video.
- 17:46And I turns out did not get video.
- 17:50Yeah, I didn't even get a picture.
- 17:52I don't know what I was doing. I think you thought you were on
- 17:55video and took a picture when the dolphins were underwater.
- 17:58I don't know, it's just such a fail, like the fail that you
- 18:02both didn't see the dolphins swimming right next to you.
- 18:06Well, they must have been behind us.
- 18:07No, there was. They were surrounding you.
- 18:09There was they, there were. One in front, one in back.
- 18:13No, no, cuz you just weren't. You weren't noticing, I know,
- 18:17but you didn't see it. That was a fail.
- 18:20That's true. And and I somehow messed up the
- 18:24recording but but I don't know. He's had some cool close
- 18:28encounters with sea creatures. Manatees, also in Florida.
- 18:31Yes, yes, and more. Lots of dolphin encounters, but
- 18:35dolphins kind of, I think like the people, so it kind of makes
- 18:38sense. That's true.
- 18:40Also. Well, sea creature.
- 18:42No, not a sea creature, but water creature.
- 18:45The alligators. We've seen lots of alligators
- 18:48swimming around and they're kind of cute.
- 18:51I don't know. Cute.
- 18:52It's not a word that I would use to describe an alligator.
- 18:55In the water, they're. Cute.
- 18:56The babies are cute. In the water, they're cute.
- 18:59Most babies are cute. I mean, yeah, a lot of them.
- 19:03A lot of them. But then also, yeah, I mean,
- 19:07we've seen a lot of sea creatures.
- 19:08So, Luke, let me ask you a question.
- 19:13Whoa, we're not ready for that. And now, ladies and gentlemen,
- 19:18the moment you've all been waiting for in this corner,
- 19:23claiming to weigh in at 135 lbs, we have the illustrious
- 19:28currently wearing what I have learned is not lipstick, but in
- 19:31fact tinted lip balm or gloss amber.
- 19:33Mm, hmm, mm hmm. And she's probably, that can't
- 19:41be right, crushing me and she'll tell us all in the win loss in a
- 19:46minute here. And in this corner we have Luke
- 19:50and I'm thinking he's not sure about the the win loss tally.
- 19:56I don't know why it would be a surprise because it every week
- 19:59it's only going to change by 1. Well, that's true.
- 20:02So. Math is hard though.
- 20:04You have what we have here on our tallies is 8 ties.
- 20:10OK. And you actually gained a win
- 20:13last week. One of our polls closed out and
- 20:18you took it. Apparently people would rather
- 20:22curl than break dance. Whatever, let it be.
- 20:27So you have 12 wins now. Or I had a better argument that
- 20:31time. That's also possible.
- 20:32Sometimes the better argument wins.
- 20:34Sometimes it does, sometimes it does.
- 20:36So you have 12. That's a dozen.
- 20:39There you go. That seems to be one of your
- 20:41favorite numbers. Is a dozen or words I don't
- 20:43know. 12's a good number. But I have 16 wins.
- 20:47That's more. So I am winning more.
- 20:50But that's OK because we're coming to a new question.
- 20:54And apparently, you know the the gods out there have decided that
- 21:00we are staying within water. Yeah.
- 21:03The show I was on. Was about water.
- 21:07Was about water. Related.
- 21:09Yes, last week we were talking about the water.
- 21:14No, we were talking about eating fish.
- 21:16Eating seafood, Which? Not seafood.
- 21:18You were specific. That's a later argument that
- 21:20you're going to lose because shrimp are delicious.
- 21:23I don't know. SO is crap.
- 21:24Anyhow, so it felt like time to go after one of the things that
- 21:29happened to be on our list, which is if you could be any sea
- 21:34creature, Luke, what would you be?
- 21:38Well, first of all, thank you for the question.
- 21:43Second, this is not easy to because like there are a
- 21:49literally endless amount of species in the ocean and a whole
- 21:54bunch yet undiscovered, which obviously we wouldn't be able to
- 21:57debate about. But I did a little quick
- 22:00research before the show and I got even more confused and
- 22:05excited about the amazing array of sea creatures because there's
- 22:08so many that have so many traits and skills that are wild.
- 22:12Check this out. There's something called I think
- 22:17it was a mantis shrimp. There's also a Peacock shrimp.
- 22:21Those two different. So a mantis shrimp either, I'm
- 22:26not entirely sure, either punches with its little with its
- 22:30little hands or feet so hard that it can break like aquarium
- 22:35glass, like if you had a little aquarium, they so one of the
- 22:39sources said it was punched like literally at the speed of a
- 22:42bullet, but it's, you know, they got a little tiny arm.
- 22:44So it's like that an actual bullet.
- 22:47And then another one said that they punched very fast and many
- 22:51times yes. That's what I.
- 22:53Recall also capable of breaking like in your house aquarium
- 22:56glass. So I thought that was super
- 22:59wild. And then the the Peacock one, it
- 23:03was something about or maybe that wasn't a shrimp like it.
- 23:08It could like light up or something and it was all fancy
- 23:10anyway. There's a lot of crazy things in
- 23:13the ocean. Light up creatures.
- 23:14There is an abundance. Yes.
- 23:17Of light up creatures, yes, one of them is like, it looks like
- 23:20an emerald. OK, like lit up like out of a
- 23:23fairy tale. Anyway, that's not in any of the
- 23:25ones I picked, but it was fun doing a little research.
- 23:28I definitely wanted to be all the sea creatures.
- 23:33I think though, and this might even be a little cliche, but I
- 23:37don't even care because I think they're fun and awesome and we
- 23:40already referenced them via the other podcasts mentioned.
- 23:44Dolphin, I think, is my choice. And I have a lot of reasons
- 23:48because for one, I don't know about all the sea creatures.
- 23:52So there's probably like, you know, different stuff that might
- 23:55be more fun. But I thought, well, here's
- 23:58reasons that I like the idea if I was going to be a sea creature
- 24:02to be a dolphin one. They travel in pods or packs?
- 24:09Or is it a pod? It's a pod.
- 24:11Pod So I like the idea of like having a family, you know, I
- 24:15don't want to be like a loner, like a great white shark.
- 24:17It's like it's all sad and on its own and just wants to eat
- 24:21seals anyway. You don't.
- 24:23Know that it's sad. That's probably true.
- 24:26I'm guessing they are not, but so I like the idea that they
- 24:31they travel in a pod. I also like the idea that they
- 24:37breathe air because that's because it means you get to
- 24:40like, you know, come up to the surface and see the sun and, you
- 24:44know, like that kind of had a, an appeal to me.
- 24:47And then the playfulness of them, like it's so cool to watch
- 24:52like, well, one, it's cool to just like if you're in the ocean
- 24:56to have like a couple of dolphins swimming behind your
- 24:59boat, because that's fun to kind of watch them bounce around
- 25:02through the waves and the wake. But then the, some of the crazy
- 25:06stuff they do, like that's on the videos you find online of
- 25:10like doing all these flips and high jumps and antics and, and
- 25:15like they do it just for the joy of doing it.
- 25:18Like, you know, they're out there in the wild just going
- 25:21crazy. And I think that's super cool.
- 25:26Yeah. And I wanna actually do, like I,
- 25:27I wanna be able to, who wouldn't wanna be able to zip up out of
- 25:31the water and do like a triple crazy circle flip?
- 25:35Yeah, like, that'd be super fun. And then, you know, swim at
- 25:39really fast speeds. Like they could.
- 25:42I don't know how fast 'cause I didn't research it, but, you
- 25:44know, I've seen them. They're very fast creatures.
- 25:48I like going fast. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:50So that makes sense for me. Oh, and another big component of
- 25:56why I think it'd be great to be a dolphin is they communicate in
- 25:59like a very advanced language. And obviously since we don't
- 26:03speak dolphin, we don't know what they're saying.
- 26:06But the more that scientists research their communication,
- 26:12the more they unveil like it seems to continue to grow like
- 26:16that. They have, they have like
- 26:19emphasis, not just sounds that mean things like they probably
- 26:24have a sound that means shark runaway, but they might have one
- 26:27that means like big shark or many shark or, you know, like
- 26:34quantifiable. Yeah, Like I it's, I wouldn't be
- 26:38surprised if in another 10 or 20 years they're like, OK, so we've
- 26:41mapped out a whole bunch of stuff and dolphins are like
- 26:44wicked smart and have like a whole, they got like a whole
- 26:47language. They know that they have a whole
- 26:49language. But I mean like like more than
- 26:53cuz humans are good at thinking that creatures for the most part
- 26:57aren't as smart as we are. Sure.
- 26:59Yes, yes, that is. But the more we learn about
- 27:02dolphins, the more they continue to discover that they're quite
- 27:05smart. Yes.
- 27:07And they have a big brain. And anyway, and side note and
- 27:12reference to our last episode, they eat fish and I love fish.
- 27:17Yeah, I a lot of sea creatures do eat fish.
- 27:21Not all. Well, not not all.
- 27:23There are some that. Don't.
- 27:24Some might eat other stuff like shrimp, which is delicious.
- 27:28Yeah, lots eat shrimp as well. Yummy, delicious shrimp.
- 27:33So was that I got sidetracked. Here I thought you were done.
- 27:37Now I was daydreaming again about eating delicious seafood
- 27:41and being on vacation. Yeah, stay in the moment.
- 27:44Well, I'm wearing Florida clothes.
- 27:45This is what happened. I put on a shirt I got in
- 27:47Florida. I got a hat that I got in
- 27:48Florida. No, I got a picture of Florida
- 27:51on the walls and in my brain. That's where I am.
- 27:53We're in Minnesota podcasting. I know it's like 30 something
- 27:56outside you. Yeah, don't worry.
- 27:59Don't. Worry about it.
- 28:01I think that's good, yeah. OK.
- 28:05Just solid number of arguments and I think they're super cool
- 28:08man. Yeah that's so funny cuz
- 28:10dolphins are cool. Definitely not done, but might
- 28:13be done. Might be done, might be done.
- 28:16All right. So the question probably to me
- 28:20would be, Amber, what would you choose?
- 28:23But I also did a lot of thinking about this, and I also find the
- 28:29ocean fascinating. I find the amount of or lack of
- 28:33research we have into the ocean to be really something.
- 28:36I think it's amazing, like you said, that there's new creatures
- 28:40being discovered all the time and they're so wildly different
- 28:45from each other, you know, and I guess we have that above, above
- 28:51or on the land too, that we have so many just different,
- 28:55different critters. But like it's, it's such a, it
- 28:59seems like such a different scenario and I think it's great
- 29:04that so much of it is untouched, unlike, you know, sure, unlike
- 29:09the land. And I think that's, although I'm
- 29:11sure there are plenty of people say it's way too touched.
- 29:13And yes, I understand the Barrier Reef, all that, like
- 29:15there's lots of problems that humans are doing to the oceans.
- 29:18However, what is there and where it is, there's, you know, I
- 29:23just, it's just a whole another flipping world and I think it's
- 29:26really awesome. I also could go into a lot of
- 29:29obscure creatures because I have certainly spent more than my
- 29:34fair share of time watching about ocean creatures.
- 29:39And be the creature. I love Be the Creature, but they
- 29:42didn't do ocean creatures on Be the Creature, which would make
- 29:45sense because they lived within the community of that animal and
- 29:50it's kind of hard to live underwater making that contact
- 29:54all the time because we as humans need something called
- 29:58oxygen. That's the lack of research.
- 30:01Well, that's probably part of it and.
- 30:04And it gets dark down there. And it's also kind of hard to
- 30:07breathe underwater. Yeah.
- 30:09I mean, not impossible, but you don't really want to do it, I
- 30:13think. Like it might not come.
- 30:14Out a bunch of people can hold their breath for like 10 minutes
- 30:17or something crazy. Really.
- 30:19Well, I'm not one of those. I could do like a minute.
- 30:24You know, I remember I used to do that type of like test when I
- 30:27was a kid, when you were a kid in the in the bathtub.
- 30:29Did you? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:31But of course. Swimming pool and lake?
- 30:34Sure, whatever. Sure, but I remember like
- 30:36counting like holding my breath 12345 you know, like.
- 30:39Really fast. I'm like well I totally held my
- 30:42breath for like 3 minutes so. I counted to 180 that.
- 30:49Happens this dream, it happened. I'm sure it happened, but
- 30:52anyhow, so but I also like even though I know there's
- 30:56questionable tactics or not tactics, but whatever, it's,
- 31:02it's not always the greatest, but I also like going to
- 31:05aquariums and seeing just kind of seeing the the water life
- 31:11that exists. And, and I have some favorites
- 31:14that I like to look at because they're just so amazing.
- 31:18One of my favorites to look at. It's not going to be my vote.
- 31:23That's but if you aren't, if you're like, OK, yeah, I've
- 31:26heard of dolphins and all these things.
- 31:28Maybe I haven't heard of those, those special shrimp and you're
- 31:32interested in getting, you know, seeing a really cool one.
- 31:35One of my favorite looking sea creatures.
- 31:39It's not my choice. Not your choice.
- 31:41Is the water dragon. Oh, I was going to say that.
- 31:44Is that the one that looks like a leaf?
- 31:47Yes, yes, it's a kind of. Crazy, it's.
- 31:50Related to the seahorse, and they do have them at our local
- 31:55Minnesota Zoo, or they've had them actually.
- 31:56I haven't been there for a long time, but look them up.
- 31:59They're just crazy gorgeous. And then another one I think is
- 32:06sort of fascinating to watch our jellyfish because I feel like
- 32:13there's just nothing going on there.
- 32:15But. Why do we know what's going on
- 32:16with jellyfish? I don't think we do.
- 32:18Like why are they there? I don't know.
- 32:21I don't think they eat other creatures.
- 32:23It's like, that's what and to sometimes sting people.
- 32:26But they're just floating around.
- 32:27Yeah. Yeah, just doing nothing, yeah.
- 32:30But so relaxing to watch, and I think that's part of the reason
- 32:33I like sea creatures is unless they're, you know, like chasing
- 32:38a seal or something, they're they are a lot of times just
- 32:42relaxing to watch. And you know what, even
- 32:44sometimes when you have, you know, like something going after
- 32:48a big school of fish, it's still, it's still not not
- 32:51relaxing to watch because the movements and all of that.
- 32:54But so I, I kind of like to think about just some of the
- 32:59fascinating adaptations that they have, you know, I mean,
- 33:03there's. Yeah, I.
- 33:05Just thought of a fascinating adaptation.
- 33:07OK, let's hear it before I give. Mine OK, here we go.
- 33:10I think it's called it's called an arrow something and I think
- 33:13it's called an arrow fish like arrow like bow and arrow because
- 33:17they shoot a water jet from their who knows, I'm gonna
- 33:24assume mouth that's so precise and fast they shoot bugs out of
- 33:31trees. Trees.
- 33:34You know, near the water, obviously.
- 33:36And then they swim and they eat the bug.
- 33:38Oh. Smart, smart.
- 33:40Think of that. It's like what kind of crazy?
- 33:43What? Like you're talking about
- 33:45adaptation. That is a wild adaptation.
- 33:47So wild world. Rather than adapt to just eating
- 33:50stuff that's already there, they're like no no, we need the
- 33:52fresh kill. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:54What's that up? There fancy fly right there.
- 33:57Yeah, Yeah. Well, that's, yeah, that's a
- 33:59really interesting thing. But I kind of I, I like that
- 34:03idea of shooting things, you know, having, having some of
- 34:07that my pick for what I would be OK if I were to be a sea
- 34:12creature, I would want to be something that is adaptable,
- 34:16like I said, OK, that's important.
- 34:20Also, I like the idea of being smart, you know, but also being
- 34:26purposeful, right. OK, so I in some a critter that
- 34:33always sticks with me for just kind of like how fascinating
- 34:37they look as well as an octopus. For sure.
- 34:42They are perhaps one of the most notable for me creatures of the
- 34:48sea. I mean they have the 8 arms
- 34:51which are not tentacles. Do you know the difference
- 34:54between an arm and a tentacle? A squid has a tentacle.
- 34:59A squid has a tentacle, but do you want to know what the
- 35:01difference is? An arm has the suckers all the
- 35:08way, and a tentacle is more like a club with suckers at the end.
- 35:15So for the. What was the one in 20,000
- 35:18leagues under the sea? I think it was a giant squid
- 35:22that was a giant. I think you're right.
- 35:24Yeah. OK, but octopus, so they had.
- 35:26Club hands. Yes, so Octopus have 8.
- 35:30It says you could find me in the club.
- 35:32Wow, so they have 8 arms and these eight arms have all the
- 35:40suckers. And what's super cool about it
- 35:42is their brain can make them move like completely
- 35:47independently. Like this one, one arm could be
- 35:50searching for food, another arm could be searching for, you
- 35:54know, something cool to hold on to.
- 35:55Like there it just it's like they all have their own, but
- 36:00they are they all are in that they can work independently of
- 36:03each other. Like for me.
- 36:06I mean. But like, think about how hard
- 36:09some of that would be. I have two arms and I can hardly
- 36:11do the bat your head you. Can't even clap your hands like.
- 36:15I mean no ad in six others, right?
- 36:19Like you. Do have two other appendages I
- 36:21would just like to point out. Right, I know.
- 36:24But what I'm saying is that like the way that they can move and
- 36:28have their own purpose is really fascinating.
- 36:31And did you know that they can regrow an arm?
- 36:36I feel like I've heard that. Yes.
- 36:37Yeah. So if they need to let go of an
- 36:39arm because you know, like something's, it's caught.
- 36:42In something they can consciously Slough off an
- 36:45appendage, yes. Not like it got sliced by
- 36:48something. Well, there's got to be a reason
- 36:50they need to. They're not going to be like,
- 36:51cool, I'm going to hide and pretend like I I.
- 36:53Don't think they can just cut one off on their own.
- 36:56It literally said that they it can like release an arm, but
- 37:00there's got to be a reason for it.
- 37:02There's got to be a reason. Maybe they get stuck.
- 37:05That's what I'm saying, yes, yes.
- 37:07Like it could be something that it got stuck and then they can
- 37:10just grow another one in 120 days.
- 37:12There's a whole new arm. Do they have to release the
- 37:14whole arm? I don't know, I don't know.
- 37:17OK, sorry for asking questions, you're making me curious.
- 37:20I know. Well, that's the thing.
- 37:21There's so much to learn about a octopus for sure.
- 37:24Whereas you know like some of them are like OK.
- 37:26They're the aliens of the sea. Well, so then the other thing
- 37:30you're talking about shooting stuff, right?
- 37:31Like, I mean, one of their, their defense mechanisms is to
- 37:35shoot ink. Yeah.
- 37:36And that like they're just like poof.
- 37:38Magic. You know, squid ink.
- 37:40No, they also shoot ink squid. They're both inky, Yes.
- 37:43Yes, and when they shoot the ink then they fly not.
- 37:47Fly. They dart the other direction
- 37:49and go hide or something. Yeah, so that's also pretty
- 37:52cool. Wait.
- 37:53Who eats an octopus? People, lots of people, eat
- 37:56octopuses. There probably is a sea creature
- 37:59there's. Lots of.
- 38:00Do they have like a natural no. I have no idea.
- 38:03I mean, I think if you're in the sea, if you're bigger than the
- 38:06thing, you. Might even eat you.
- 38:07Yeah, exactly, exactly so but anyhow, so they they can then do
- 38:13that and have like their magical escape, you know, like just like
- 38:15what showboating that is. I'm gone.
- 38:21You know, like, how fun would that be to just have that
- 38:24ability? That's what the magicians do
- 38:26with their little smoke bomb. And yeah.
- 38:28Exactly, exactly. It's very flamboyant and I would
- 38:32be totally excited to do that and and to exit that way.
- 38:36Like I'm out, you know, amber octopus out and then that's
- 38:40that's that. But then the other thing that I
- 38:42think is really cool about octopuses versus, you know, some
- 38:46other creatures is that they can change color, right?
- 38:51And like, if they have shapes on them, they can change the
- 38:54shapes, all sorts of things. So like, what a amazing, again,
- 39:01adaptation, evolution, whatever you want to call it, to be able
- 39:04to do that. One of the things that I've
- 39:06wondered though about animals that can change colors is can
- 39:10they feel the change of color? Oh, like a chameleon.
- 39:13Or yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm not actually finding,
- 39:17you know, an answer to that now, if any of you have.
- 39:20You think it's got to be visual? Well, I'm wondering if any of
- 39:24you listeners happen to have the ability to change colors and let
- 39:28me know if you can feel it or not.
- 39:31I mean I can feel it when I turn red.
- 39:33I know, I know. Well, so wouldn't that be
- 39:36amazing? Like is that, is that
- 39:37uncomfortable? I don't know.
- 39:39I my brain just kind of goes into weird places when I think
- 39:41about that. An interesting thing to think
- 39:44about. It is.
- 39:45I would. I wonder if it would it.
- 39:47Yeah. When you blush, you can feel
- 39:48that. So I don't know.
- 39:49You can feel a sunburn now. That's the.
- 39:51Injury talking about because again, in my brain I'm on
- 39:54vacation. You just are like, let's be
- 39:57again in the moment here we are talking about sea creatures.
- 40:01Yeah. And then of course, they can
- 40:03like squeeze into any space because there's no hard outer
- 40:09shell. The only hard part in a octopus
- 40:11is their little beak where they're eating from.
- 40:14And that is like that can be moved because of what it, I
- 40:17don't know what it's made out of.
- 40:18It's not like bone or something like that that.
- 40:20Would break keratin. Well, I was reading an article.
- 40:24Fingernail. I was reading an article about a
- 40:27squid that was able to get out of a mayonnaise jar.
- 40:31Like a closed mayonnaise jar. I don't even know how this is
- 40:34possible. Like no, no.
- 40:35So they're really smart and they can turn and like they.
- 40:39All like it. Move the lid.
- 40:41I'm thinking you were seeing it slipped out of the crack.
- 40:43I'm like, hold on a second, you can't.
- 40:45Well, I didn't see a video. They got those suction things.
- 40:49So they're they're really smart, yes, so.
- 40:51They so if they suction to the walls of the thing and then
- 40:53suction the lid and then twist in a counterclockwise yeah or a
- 40:57countering, I could see that. They're wicked smart.
- 41:01I mean like it's just they're so smart and they can use tools.
- 41:05I mean, they just really have. They're the smartest invertebrae
- 41:11that is out there. That we know of.
- 41:14OK, you know what? That's it's a fair statement.
- 41:17Do we know of? I think this is some stupid
- 41:19statistic, like we know something like.
- 41:21Sure. 5% of our oceans or something?
- 41:24But anyhow. What if there's like a super
- 41:26powered up? What if there really are
- 41:28mermaids? Why are you being mean about it?
- 41:33I'm. Not I'm not.
- 41:34What if Megalodon is still? Alive that could These could be
- 41:37questions for another podcast. What if the Kraken is real?
- 41:42Again, maybe that could be for another.
- 41:44Kind of like a giant octopus, Squidipus.
- 41:48I don't know. I don't know, but I'm still
- 41:50talking about my creature. You have been.
- 41:53Yeah, I know it's cuz it's fascinating.
- 41:55That's true. I am one of those people that
- 41:57will go down any, you know, like if there's an animal that is
- 42:02interesting, I will just keep going down to learn more and
- 42:05more about them. You look so good right now.
- 42:09Thank you See this is him trying to silence me.
- 42:12I'm. Sorry, that's how you see a
- 42:14compliment Listener. I just want you to know that
- 42:18with the purest of heart, I found my wife to be beautiful
- 42:23and she thought I was trying to pull a move on.
- 42:27Her Well, here's the thing, you've been trying to segue and
- 42:29do lots of things this whole episode, so.
- 42:32I just want to be on vacation. Oh my gosh, we're not going
- 42:36anywhere. We're not right now.
- 42:37I'm sorry. It is what it is.
- 42:39But anyhow, these are the reasons why I like the octopus.
- 42:42I think it'd be a really fascinating creature to be and
- 42:47and I think that you could live a very interesting life as an
- 42:53octopus. I like the idea of not having,
- 42:57you know, like dolphins, super beautiful, super fun, cool, but
- 43:03like there's too much human interaction and that's part of
- 43:06their curiosity. But I like the idea of kind of
- 43:08being like cool. No, I'm I'm over here in my deep
- 43:12dark depths of octopi garden. I.
- 43:17Wonder what like their purpose is.
- 43:19It seems like from obviously our limited perspective, since we
- 43:23don't speak, I don't almost said octopus, dolph, dolphin or
- 43:29octopus. It seems like the like the
- 43:33purpose of the dolphin is not that dissimilar from a person's.
- 43:39Like they have a family, they like to play, they, you know,
- 43:43talk to each other. They have a, you know, the
- 43:46whatever. And then puts I wonder because,
- 43:49and this adds to the mystique of a, of an octopus.
- 43:53I wonder what like their purpose is because I don't think that
- 43:56we've perceived, you know? So octopus do typically die
- 44:04right after like they are one mate and done.
- 44:08You mean like they make one baby and they're gone?
- 44:10Well, not baby because they have many babies, but yes.
- 44:15They have a a a a hatching. Yeah, yeah, roughly.
- 44:19Where is it? Do they have eggs or do they
- 44:21have mammals have eggs they don't have they just OK?
- 44:27Yes. Wait, that's kind of terrifying.
- 44:29How many babies does an octopus have?
- 44:31You know, I don't know I. Don't.
- 44:33That's another question for the listener.
- 44:34You're gonna educate us. We're not.
- 44:36We're not educators here. We're not.
- 44:37We're not. I would like to know.
- 44:39Yeah. When they pop out a.
- 44:45It's not a one, it's multiple, a multi hatch.
- 44:48Does is it 3 or I want to kind of know if it's a scary number
- 44:52like do they do they spit out a dozen?
- 44:55I don't know. 50 a hundred. Scary number.
- 44:58I don't know, but big any big number like a?
- 45:01Lot of sea creatures spit out a lot.
- 45:03Well, like some of them sea turtles, they'll be putting out
- 45:06100 or something eggs. Yeah.
- 45:08Well, that's because their chances of them continuing.
- 45:10Not good really. Not good.
- 45:12A lot of people eat them eggs. Yeah, but like the female
- 45:16octopus, you know, will kind of appear.
- 45:18Currently she sticks around with the baby octopi for a little bit
- 45:21and then she dies. She won't eat.
- 45:24She won't eat after her babies are born.
- 45:28Or maybe there's like a nobility in that, Like maybe they, they,
- 45:33they want it. Purpose is over.
- 45:35I don't know. I don't know.
- 45:37So they do have a little bit shorter lifespan.
- 45:39Question. Well, what their purpose then to
- 45:42me would be if that's if they die after that, then I guess
- 45:45their purpose would be procreating.
- 45:48That would be their, well I. Don't think so.
- 45:49OK, here's why. So that's just the end of their
- 45:54life. Is your life defined by your
- 45:55death and what you were doing at the time?
- 45:58I mean, it can be, but I don't know that it it should be or or
- 46:02has to be. Like maybe that just is.
- 46:04Maybe they're driven to procreate as many creatures are,
- 46:09and maybe they die as, you know, many creatures do.
- 46:12I mean, humans used to die a lot more than they do now.
- 46:15We die. All of us do, though.
- 46:17I meant in childbirth we're. At 100%.
- 46:20Specific to the mother, that's a common thing in the in an animal
- 46:23Kingdom. Sure, sure.
- 46:24But so like I, you know, I want to know I guess more my question
- 46:29should have been, I wonder what they feel their purpose is Like
- 46:32are they like, are they down there building secret gardens?
- 46:38Yes, yes, there's a whole song about it by the The Beatles.
- 46:43Isn't that the octopus's garden? The.
- 46:44Octopus's garden. Yeah.
- 46:46I don't know. Yep.
- 46:47But that's a song. The Beatles.
- 46:49But that's a song. That's not science.
- 46:51We should really move on. We're getting Dumber every
- 46:54minute. That's the science.
- 46:55That's the science or. I am, at least.
- 46:57I don't know about you, but it's not.
- 46:59It's not getting better here. I don't.
- 47:00I don't think it is. But anyhow, so my vote is for
- 47:04the very mystical and. Weird.
- 47:09Awesome. Yeah, Octopus.
- 47:12And my vote is for the fun loving, chittering little
- 47:18missile launchers of the the the mammal Kingdom.
- 47:22The air breathers, the sun soakers, the dancers.
- 47:26Let's go dolphin. Also, everyone's got a dolphin
- 47:29tattoo. I win.
- 47:30OK, so how do they vote for you, Amber?
- 47:36So, well, you can go and vote for which one you would rather
- 47:40be based on, whatever reason, or.
- 47:43Based on the debate. Or I said whatever reason, for
- 47:46whatever reason, whether that be debate or you're like, you know
- 47:49what? I love dolphins.
- 47:51But Amber's way better, way more answer.
- 47:56Or Amber made a great argument but I have a dolphin tattoo so
- 47:59I. Probably don't.
- 48:01I probably need to vote for Dolphin, that's an option as
- 48:04well. We were just talking about
- 48:05dolphin tattoos the other day. Was that you and me or?
- 48:08Was that somebody else? I don't know.
- 48:10Anyhow, it's a pretty common one, those dolphin tattoos.
- 48:13But whether or not you have one, vote for whichever, for whatever
- 48:17reason on Spotify through the Spotify poll, yes, Let us know
- 48:23which you'd rather be dolphin or octopi or octopuses.
- 48:29Both as acceptable. Did you know that?
- 48:32OK, dolphi is not. No, no, not at all.
- 48:35Not at all. Well, hopefully, people, you've
- 48:38enjoyed the episode and you'll do the very important things
- 48:41that help us continue to stick around and give you new content.
- 48:44Yeah. Of very meaningful arguments.
