- 0:10Speaker 1: I like that last photo. There new San Francisco giant
- 0:13Speaker 1: Harrison Vader joining us right now. Oh, we need a
- 0:15Speaker 1: camera flip. We need a camera flip on. Give me
- 0:18Speaker 1: if your vertical horizontal or.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Let's see stand by. Yeah, that's it.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We gotta yep. There we go, Harrison, have you on?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Good to see you. Congratulations on the contract, so give
- 0:32Speaker 1: us the goods. How did it all go down? How
- 0:34Speaker 1: was the off season of free agency for you this
- 0:36Speaker 1: time around?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah, good to see you guys too, Thanks for having
- 0:40Speaker 3: me free and two is awesome, man. I think, regardless
- 0:44Speaker 3: of how long it takes, if you find yourself in
- 0:46Speaker 3: a spot with an organization that wants to you, that's
- 0:49Speaker 3: gonna play you, and that Davis have a great fan
- 0:52Speaker 3: base and a great city, you know, I think it's
- 0:55Speaker 3: a win all the way around.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So I'm extremely.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Excited, My family's thrilled, and I'm just looking forward to
- 1:00Speaker 3: getting all going.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It's a it's a storied franchise with a lot of
- 1:03Speaker 3: superstars around me, So I can't wait to just add
- 1:06Speaker 3: everything and anything I can on a daily basis, and
- 1:09Speaker 3: you know, get as many ones as possible.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Before you ask you a question, I'm being told flip flip.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Stand by they said they had it within the green room?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Is that it? Hold on?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm asking them. They're typing, that's it, that's it. That's
- 1:27Speaker 1: the one. All right, there we go.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Now we see his fashion too, with the ripped shirts
- 1:32Speaker 4: and stuff. My wife makes me get rid of those
- 1:34Speaker 4: shirts when they get like that. I'm sure yours was
- 1:37Speaker 4: really expensive, so I get.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, they actually the more holes and rips they have
- 1:42Speaker 2: in them, the more they actually go up in value.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So that works out.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It's like why it means that it's it's more weather,
- 1:50Speaker 1: so I pay for the same thing.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but people can tell the difference between the ones
- 1:55Speaker 3: that are like worn through, like where over the year,
- 2:00Speaker 3: versus like manufactured, So you have to be careful.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Okay, I won't. I won't even test those waters. It's
- 2:06Speaker 4: not that's that's if I had hair like yours, I
- 2:08Speaker 4: would test those waters. The only reason my shirts look
- 2:11Speaker 4: like that is because I put them on my clip
- 2:12Speaker 4: too many times in a row for them seasons that
- 2:15Speaker 4: I played. But my question is, now we're I mean,
- 2:17Speaker 4: now we got the full.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Now we're getting into it. We're doing it.
- 2:21Speaker 4: This is do you take two suitcases. I won't even
- 2:24Speaker 4: ask the question I was gonna ask, do you take
- 2:26Speaker 4: two suitcases on every road trip?
- 2:29Speaker 2: No? I don't. I don't at all.
- 2:31Speaker 5: One.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I know you just you learn how to pack over
- 2:34Speaker 2: the years. Just keep it one. I don't want to,
- 2:35Speaker 2: you know, drawing too munch time to myself. I'm bringing
- 2:37Speaker 2: two suitcases.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Okay, but then there's Aj. Now tell me if this
- 2:41Speaker 4: is good or bad? Because AJ dresses, well, he's not
- 2:44Speaker 4: like he's not like that. Okay, he's not your status AJ.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well he's got the he's got the brown
- 2:51Speaker 4: noser shirt. But AJ told us the other day he
- 2:54Speaker 4: writes down what his outfits are for a road trip
- 2:58Speaker 4: because he travels a lot. He does five he travels
- 3:00Speaker 4: every every continent every year, so he writes them down
- 3:05Speaker 4: so that he knows what outfits to wear. Excessive or
- 3:09Speaker 4: not excessive.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think that's excessive.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I think AJ can dress however he wants it, well,
- 3:15Speaker 3: however he wants to dress.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I think with that.
- 3:19Speaker 3: With that, it's hard because you know, you're always on
- 3:21Speaker 3: camera every day, so you're gonna have people that are
- 3:23Speaker 3: gonna be outfit tracking you and you're gonna get blown
- 3:26Speaker 3: up about wearing the same nout for the same suit,
- 3:28Speaker 3: so you gotta be careful.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Whereas you know, I know the schedule of.
- 3:30Speaker 3: How these guys are gonna like take photos of us,
- 3:32Speaker 3: which generally happened like Big Series some of Night Baseball
- 3:36Speaker 3: Friday Night. So like, I can you know, easily pick
- 3:39Speaker 3: out one outphare that I know I'm gonna kind of
- 3:41Speaker 3: wear for.
- 3:41Speaker 2: A camera or whatever, so I don't have to worry
- 3:44Speaker 2: too much about it.
- 3:44Speaker 3: But if I was on camera every day like you guys,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I would probably do something similar.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Listen, you just wear a gray shirt every day or
- 3:51Speaker 5: I wore actually wore a Florida. I wore a blue
- 3:53Speaker 5: one of these yesterday for no good reason other than
- 3:56Speaker 5: it looks great with my eyes. And then they said
- 3:58Speaker 5: you were coming on, so look for me. I had
- 4:00Speaker 5: a black one that I could then wear today because
- 4:03Speaker 5: the Gator ater the Gator was coming on, so I
- 4:06Speaker 5: had to make sure that I represented two days in
- 4:08Speaker 5: a row so people can make fun of me. But
- 4:10Speaker 5: one was blue. One who's black. Sorry that you know.
- 4:12Speaker 5: They hooked me up with some stuff every once in
- 4:14Speaker 5: a while.
- 4:14Speaker 3: No, that's not good and I've also learned too that
- 4:16Speaker 3: like the better you play, you could just wear whatever
- 4:18Speaker 3: you want.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So let's just focus on that.
- 4:22Speaker 4: The reason I can't wear whatever I want. But anyway,
- 4:25Speaker 4: I'm done now, so I don't need to worry about that.
- 4:27Speaker 4: My question was gonna be when you see everybody in
- 4:29Speaker 4: free agency going off the board and you're hanging around
- 4:33Speaker 4: for a little bit, do you look at some of
- 4:35Speaker 4: those guys and go, ah, man, like I kind of was.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I was hoping to go there, or well, they had
- 4:41Speaker 4: called and now they didn't. Now they're not going to
- 4:44Speaker 4: call back, because that seems like a reciprocal move. Do
- 4:47Speaker 4: you watch it that closely?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely. You know, I like to be involved with
- 4:53Speaker 2: every step of this process, and it's my livelihood.
- 4:56Speaker 3: It's what I'm obsessed with. It's what my family's obsessed with.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So you know, as much as I want answers, I
- 5:00Speaker 3: also want to keep them informed. So I always really
- 5:03Speaker 3: want to bring them information because as much as my
- 5:06Speaker 3: mind might wander, you know, I get to train every
- 5:08Speaker 3: day and focus on that, so I kind of get
- 5:11Speaker 3: to take my mind off it. Whereas like my parents
- 5:13Speaker 3: and my sister and my loved ones, you know, they
- 5:16Speaker 3: think a lot, so I've remain informed and I just
- 5:19Speaker 3: feel like, you know, the big thing with freeency is
- 5:23Speaker 3: like letting your market develop. That was something that you
- 5:25Speaker 3: just kind of always hear and people always talk about,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and you know, really understanding what that means kind of
- 5:31Speaker 3: requires some information, and a lot of it is asking
- 5:34Speaker 3: questions on my end, like you mentioned, like why guys
- 5:36Speaker 3: go a certain way, how much a team has available
- 5:38Speaker 3: to spend, what their true needs are, what they're kind
- 5:41Speaker 3: of identifying to teams is what they might need to
- 5:43Speaker 3: build their roster in the off season, what they're going
- 5:45Speaker 3: to kind of relinquish and salary and what that might
- 5:47Speaker 3: free up. So all those other things I just really
- 5:50Speaker 3: like to remain involved with. But I think at the
- 5:52Speaker 3: end of the day, I think the ball really does
- 5:53Speaker 3: take care of you, and you really do ultimately end
- 5:56Speaker 3: up where a team kind of needs you, and whatever
- 5:58Speaker 3: that looks like, whether it's the beginning of the off
- 5:59Speaker 3: season in the middle of the end, I think ultimately
- 6:02Speaker 3: you kind of land where you're where you're supposed to.
- 6:04Speaker 3: So a lot of that kind of is based on
- 6:07Speaker 3: what the team needs. So I'm just excited for the
- 6:09Speaker 3: opportunity that I got. I think I land in the
- 6:10Speaker 3: perfect spot for me, considering what the Giants stated that
- 6:13Speaker 3: they kind of wanted and need based off of last season,
- 6:15Speaker 3: And I'm just excited to go to work. You know
- 6:17Speaker 3: it's going to be a tall task, but I'm excited
- 6:20Speaker 3: to just you know, chip away at it every single day.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's really all there is too.
- 6:24Speaker 3: It's just every single day just being my best version
- 6:26Speaker 3: of myself on that field.
- 6:27Speaker 2: So I'm excited I landed exact where I belonged.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Hey, Harrison, why the Giants? What did they tell You're
- 6:33Speaker 5: giving us all these reasons? Did they say all that
- 6:35Speaker 5: to you? Did they promise you starting in center field?
- 6:38Speaker 5: Why are the Giants? Why do you think it's such
- 6:40Speaker 5: a good fit for you in your game?
- 6:44Speaker 3: I mean, I think anything in sports, specially in baseball,
- 6:47Speaker 3: kind of where it's trending in terms of how the
- 6:50Speaker 3: game's developed. You know, I really don't believe anything that's promised.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You know, you have to prove that thing. You have
- 6:56Speaker 3: to prove it every single day. That's something we know
- 6:58Speaker 3: in this you know, in this on this zoom right now,
- 7:02Speaker 3: is in the game, you have to prove it every
- 7:04Speaker 3: single day. And they might you know, say there's an opening,
- 7:06Speaker 3: but you know it's your job as that athlete to
- 7:08Speaker 3: prove it every day. So so they did mention that
- 7:10Speaker 3: they do have a you know, a necessity in center
- 7:13Speaker 3: field and they want, you know, a better defensive outfield
- 7:16Speaker 3: and everything. So that was mentioned. But you know, you
- 7:19Speaker 3: can't take those things for granted. I think the opportunity
- 7:22Speaker 3: for me to play as much as possible, which has
- 7:25Speaker 3: always been my goal.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You know, I want to play every single day.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I think that opportunity was best in San Francisco, and
- 7:30Speaker 3: that's really what it's about, you know, dollar Sign and
- 7:33Speaker 3: everything involved.
- 7:34Speaker 2: You know, you want to be a part of a really,
- 7:35Speaker 2: really good clubhouse and you want to play as many
- 7:37Speaker 2: as many games as possible.
- 7:38Speaker 3: You know, you want as many exposure at bats, high
- 7:41Speaker 3: leverage at bats, big time situations as possible. So you know,
- 7:46Speaker 3: given that I really was simple, Sand fran was exactly
- 7:48Speaker 3: where I wanted to be.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I can't wait to you know.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I've been an East Coaster and spring training for ten
- 7:56Speaker 3: ten spring trainings, I think, so you know, San Francisco
- 7:59Speaker 3: opened a lot of new opportunities I'm excited to dive into.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I get to play in Arizona for spring training. I
- 8:05Speaker 3: get to play on the West Coast full time. So
- 8:07Speaker 3: all these things they might might see my challenges or
- 8:10Speaker 3: something that you know, might be difficult, but I view
- 8:13Speaker 3: them as the opposite. I view them as just really
- 8:15Speaker 3: good opportunities to prove how versatile my game is, how
- 8:18Speaker 3: quickly I can adapt. And you know, I really just
- 8:22Speaker 3: want to captivate an already awesome fan base, you know.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I want to show them what I'm made of. I
- 8:26Speaker 2: want to bring my game to San Francisco and to
- 8:29Speaker 2: bring my game to a new lineup. And you know,
- 8:31Speaker 2: anytime you get an.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Opportunity to be around superstars, or be in a new city,
- 8:35Speaker 3: or be with a new manager, I think you should
- 8:36Speaker 3: take advantage of it if you have the opportunity. So
- 8:39Speaker 3: I certainly did, and like I said many times, I'm thrilled,
- 8:41Speaker 3: and my family's thrilled.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So I can't wait.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I look at trends. When I look at stats from
- 8:47Speaker 4: guys seasons and playing against guys, it seems like the
- 8:52Speaker 4: better the team's doing, or the bigger the moment you
- 8:56Speaker 4: do better.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Is there something to do with that?
- 8:59Speaker 5: Is there?
- 9:00Speaker 4: I mean, Yankee fans kind of remember a few of
- 9:03Speaker 4: the swings that you had when you're in the playoffs
- 9:04Speaker 4: with them, you look back at your regular season with them,
- 9:07Speaker 4: they're like, oh man, you didn't even show up. Okay,
- 9:09Speaker 4: like pump the brakes he wasn't quite healthy, but okay,
- 9:13Speaker 4: Philly's last year, you guys were coming down. Like it's
- 9:16Speaker 4: there's so many times with Saint Louis, the years they
- 9:19Speaker 4: were good, Like, there's so many times. Is there something
- 9:21Speaker 4: to that?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I think.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think in those big moments, you just you really
- 9:31Speaker 3: dive into your preparation, you really rely so have it
- 9:33Speaker 3: on their preparation, you know.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It, you know, when you're playing for something so much
- 9:40Speaker 3: bigger than your own stats.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I think I've just kind of found a way.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And this is because I've had a lot of really
- 9:45Speaker 3: good players around me, especially when I was younger, that
- 9:47Speaker 3: I kind of learned from to just in order to
- 9:50Speaker 3: take the pressure off yourself, you have to.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Think about the team. You know.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Some of those really good treatches you mentioned the Cardinals,
- 9:55Speaker 3: I mean that that seventeen game winning treat we had
- 9:57Speaker 3: in seventeen to sneak into the playoffs.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Seventeen games win seventeen one games in a row. I
- 10:03Speaker 2: think it was in twenty twenty one was that stretch?
- 10:05Speaker 3: Sorry, you know, the entire time, you just like learn
- 10:08Speaker 3: that you play better if you think about the team
- 10:11Speaker 3: and you think about just passing your.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Baton and passing your batton on the line up means
- 10:14Speaker 2: a lot of things.
- 10:15Speaker 3: You can walk, you can get hit by a pitch,
- 10:17Speaker 3: you can grind out a ten.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Pitch that bad. I don't know.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I mean, we know the Couless examples, but I think
- 10:22Speaker 3: it really comes back to just just being super prepared
- 10:24Speaker 3: for how can I help my team win as much
- 10:26Speaker 3: as possible, and it takes all the pressure off yourself.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It kind of relieves any you know, individual duty you.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Might have, and you know, the glory kind of doesn't
- 10:35Speaker 3: come from a big home run in a big situation
- 10:37Speaker 3: and simply comes from just doing your job and being
- 10:39Speaker 3: a part of a team win, which once I finally
- 10:41Speaker 3: bought into at a at a younger age. I think,
- 10:44Speaker 3: you know, sliding into these new clubhousets and these big
- 10:47Speaker 3: moments with new teams that I really don't have a
- 10:49Speaker 3: lot of familiarity with, I think I just learned how
- 10:51Speaker 3: to turn myself over to the game situation, and a
- 10:53Speaker 3: lot of times those game situations require you to be
- 10:56Speaker 3: totally selfless and just be a good basic player for
- 10:59Speaker 3: the you know, for the guy to left in tier
- 11:00Speaker 3: right in your clubhouse. So yeah, I think I'll have
- 11:03Speaker 3: a lot of those with the Giants, and I'm looking
- 11:05Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 11:06Speaker 4: You couldn't have had a better transition getting traded over
- 11:09Speaker 4: the Phillies last year. The fan base loved you. I
- 11:13Speaker 4: get it. You didn't get to play in the playoffs
- 11:15Speaker 4: like you wanted to because of injury. Is there was
- 11:19Speaker 4: there a time at the end of the season you
- 11:22Speaker 4: packed your stuff up, you went home, and you said,
- 11:25Speaker 4: most likely I'm gonna be back in Philly because of
- 11:28Speaker 4: all that happened, all the transpire. Couldn't have done more.
- 11:31Speaker 5: You know.
- 11:31Speaker 4: It was like you were in a tryout and you
- 11:33Speaker 4: just killed it.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely no doubt about it. I thought that there
- 11:40Speaker 3: was a really good chance to be back in Philadelphia.
- 11:42Speaker 3: But at the same time, I've been around for long
- 11:44Speaker 3: enough and heard a lot.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Of enough stories.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Some other players have gone through similar situations, or they've
- 11:50Speaker 3: even been with an organization for six or seven years,
- 11:53Speaker 3: and you know it didn't work. Out the way they
- 11:55Speaker 3: wanted to, So I certainly also prepared myself for that
- 11:57Speaker 3: in the off chance at the time it wasn't gonna
- 12:00Speaker 3: work out. But again, that's that's what the game is,
- 12:04Speaker 3: that's what life is about. Life is about preparing for
- 12:06Speaker 3: things and having them go a different direction, and it's
- 12:10Speaker 3: about how you can pivot to keep the energy going
- 12:13Speaker 3: in the right direction to still manage to be successful.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And that's why I've.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Always said, you know, I've it's always been my dream
- 12:18Speaker 3: to be a major League baseball player. And you know,
- 12:21Speaker 3: the uniform is obviously nice, but that's a by product
- 12:24Speaker 3: of the preparation. It's a by product of the work.
- 12:26Speaker 3: That's why I really learned, I think, at a young age,
- 12:28Speaker 3: to always just keep my allegiance to the baseball.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You know, I keep my allegiance to the work behind
- 12:32Speaker 2: the scenes.
- 12:33Speaker 3: I always take care of the baseball in the field.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I always treat the game nicely, always talk about the
- 12:37Speaker 3: game nicely. You know, pour your love and your your
- 12:40Speaker 3: soul into the game. And you know, if the allegiance
- 12:43Speaker 3: to the ball, you know, all these trades that might happen,
- 12:46Speaker 3: or you know, being let down by not going to
- 12:49Speaker 3: a team you might have wanted to go to. All
- 12:51Speaker 3: of them are kind of secondary because at the end
- 12:53Speaker 3: of the day, you still get to go out there
- 12:54Speaker 3: and suit up in whatever uniform and go out there
- 12:56Speaker 3: and play, you know, the game that you love, and
- 12:58Speaker 3: you get to entertain fans, and uh, you know, that's
- 13:01Speaker 3: really what it's all about. So as excited as I
- 13:04Speaker 3: was to be in Philly and potentially back, truly I
- 13:06Speaker 3: think I went through a great learning lesson and I
- 13:09Speaker 3: was a great reminder that life always for you know,
- 13:11Speaker 3: constantly reminds us, you know.
- 13:14Speaker 2: These these these lessons. So I'm thrilled.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I'm excited, and I'm certainly with an organization, and I
- 13:20Speaker 3: landed in a place that that definitely wants me from
- 13:23Speaker 3: sendate porad of time, which is something that you know,
- 13:25Speaker 3: I've had now for the first time in my career.
- 13:26Speaker 3: So again, I'm thrilled, and I really just can't wait
- 13:30Speaker 3: to put those callers on and go out there and
- 13:32Speaker 3: compete with a locker room full of full of superstars.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So I'm excited.
- 13:38Speaker 5: All right, Harrison, you're with the Twins last year. What
- 13:44Speaker 5: what do you make of what's happening in Minnesota? Derek
- 13:46Speaker 5: Falvey brought you in. Now he's gone. The Twins fans
- 13:49Speaker 5: are up in arms because they switched owners from Joe
- 13:51Speaker 5: Polaud to Tom Tim, Tom Poll whatever, Tom Tim polad
- 13:55Speaker 5: forget which one it is, right, But what what was
- 13:57Speaker 5: your experience like in Minnesota? I played in Minnesota forever ago.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It was a great place to come up in, a
- 14:01Speaker 5: great place to play. So what was it like playing
- 14:04Speaker 5: in Minnesota obviously before you got traded to Philadelphia.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Minnesota was great, It really was. I will tell you.
- 14:13Speaker 3: The playing surface is one of the best I've ever
- 14:14Speaker 3: played in, hands down. The batter's box is fantastic, The
- 14:18Speaker 3: batter's eye is fantastic. The outfield grass, the shape of
- 14:23Speaker 3: the field, the way the sun would play, I mean
- 14:26Speaker 3: all these things, and there was a fantastic playing service.
- 14:28Speaker 3: So I mean I loved every second of truly just
- 14:31Speaker 3: simply playing the game there and then listen outside of that,
- 14:34Speaker 3: I mean, what is there to say. You know, it's
- 14:36Speaker 3: outside of my control. You know, I was brought there
- 14:38Speaker 3: to do one thing, and I was I was playing
- 14:40Speaker 3: left field and play centerfield. When when Buckney today, which
- 14:43Speaker 3: I'm thrilled wasn't often because he hasn't been healthy for
- 14:45Speaker 3: a long time. And I've always said that Bron bocks
- 14:47Speaker 3: and is probably my favorite player in baseball. So being
- 14:50Speaker 3: up close to him, being close to Carlos Creo, you know,
- 14:55Speaker 3: I've known Christian Vasquez for a while, so I got to,
- 14:58Speaker 3: you know, be with him every day. I mean, there
- 14:59Speaker 3: was a fan tastic experience, you know, outside of ownership
- 15:02Speaker 3: and moves and trading everybody at the deadline.
- 15:05Speaker 2: You know, I don't have anything to do with that.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I think it just goes to show you that it's
- 15:09Speaker 3: just so important to have your own team behind you
- 15:11Speaker 3: at all times. Whether that's a hitting coach, whether that's
- 15:14Speaker 3: an analytics guy or a biomechanist, whether it's a support
- 15:17Speaker 3: system and you know, loved ones, family members, whatever it is.
- 15:20Speaker 3: You know, you just never know how quickly and drastically
- 15:23Speaker 3: things might change on that field, whether it's your teammates
- 15:27Speaker 3: or you know, the decision makers, ownership groups, you know,
- 15:32Speaker 3: all the noise that might happen as quickly as a
- 15:34Speaker 3: as a drop of a pin. You know, you have
- 15:37Speaker 3: to still have the team behind you to get you
- 15:40Speaker 3: prepared for that game. So again, it was a good
- 15:42Speaker 3: reminder knowing that my team behind me as solid as
- 15:45Speaker 3: they come. You know, I designed it that way because
- 15:49Speaker 3: I've been traded for a number of years now, where
- 15:51Speaker 3: I've been on one year deals for you know, past
- 15:54Speaker 3: three seasons.
- 15:55Speaker 2: So I realized how important it was to have my
- 15:56Speaker 2: people behind me. So listen, I wish everybody.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I wish everybody luck in their in their ventures, if
- 16:02Speaker 3: they stay in baseball or not. Everybody that met in
- 16:04Speaker 3: Minnesota was fantastic. I mean everybody says how nice people
- 16:08Speaker 3: from Minneapolis are.
- 16:09Speaker 2: That is absolutely true. So yeah, I'm not a blast man.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I really was. As I say, it was a gift.
- 16:15Speaker 3: So you know, I wish that organization all the best.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I wish the ownership group all the best. It's still
- 16:20Speaker 3: a lot of players there that I played with that
- 16:22Speaker 3: I love and respect, so I just want them to
- 16:25Speaker 3: ball out and be successful.
- 16:26Speaker 2: So yeah, you.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Were just one of like the whole team that got traded.
- 16:29Speaker 2: So you know, it's okay, eleven guys crazy.
- 16:32Speaker 5: They're all spread out all over the league now, and
- 16:35Speaker 5: now you're in San Francisco. One of your buddies from
- 16:38Speaker 5: from way back is Pete Alonzo. You guys went to
- 16:39Speaker 5: college together, played in college together. You got to play
- 16:42Speaker 5: with them then in New York. What were your thoughts
- 16:45Speaker 5: on him and his free agency? You know, you mentioned
- 16:47Speaker 5: having a team behind you and and all the things
- 16:50Speaker 5: you were just talking about. But Pete Alonzo, you know,
- 16:52Speaker 5: setting records in the Mets for home runs, he went
- 16:55Speaker 5: to free agency, they signed him to the one year deal.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Then he gets another free agent job and they seemed
- 17:01Speaker 5: like there was no interest there. He ends up in Baltimore.
- 17:05Speaker 5: What was going on with Pete Alonzo? Because he seemed
- 17:07Speaker 5: like the perfect guy to fit in to the Mets forever.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I mean his trajectory definitely had his number being hung
- 17:17Speaker 3: up there, There's no doubt about it. But again, I
- 17:19Speaker 3: mean I think, you know, they're just countless examples of
- 17:22Speaker 3: guys that have gone through the process and they don't
- 17:24Speaker 3: you know, they don't get that callback to continue their
- 17:26Speaker 3: careers there.
- 17:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:27Speaker 3: So I don't want to speak on his behalf, but
- 17:30Speaker 3: you know, in training with him every single day and
- 17:32Speaker 3: being around him every single day and just knowing him,
- 17:35Speaker 3: you know, again he his focus is just to be
- 17:37Speaker 3: the best base of here he can and I'm sure
- 17:40Speaker 3: he would have loved for it to be with the Mets,
- 17:42Speaker 3: given his career path and given the records, like you mentioned,
- 17:46Speaker 3: what he's done there, and the fans how much they
- 17:47Speaker 3: love him.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I mean, I'm in New York. I know the fans love.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Pete Alonzo, but it didn't shake out that way, and
- 17:53Speaker 3: knowing his personality, he's wanted to just put his head
- 17:56Speaker 3: down and go to work.
- 17:57Speaker 2: So again, it just kind of comes back to the
- 17:59Speaker 2: feeling of.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It feels really good to be wanted by an organization
- 18:02Speaker 3: that he got a fantastic deal with the Orioles. I
- 18:04Speaker 3: think that's a really strong young team with a fantastic core.
- 18:08Speaker 3: A lot of players on that team that I respect.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I respect everybody, but some level of talent. Those guys
- 18:13Speaker 3: just sit at a different table. So he's surrounded by superstars.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I know he's excited and he's gonna do damage at
- 18:20Speaker 3: that stadium, There's no doubt, so the way the stadium
- 18:22Speaker 3: is constructed.
- 18:23Speaker 2: So as much as he may have loved.
- 18:24Speaker 3: To be back with the Mets, you know, the game
- 18:27Speaker 3: had had a different a different route for him, and
- 18:30Speaker 3: I know he's fully embracing it because we've been training,
- 18:33Speaker 3: you know, every single day in preparation for spring training,
- 18:36Speaker 3: so I'm excited to see what he does. He's still
- 18:38Speaker 3: hung on to one of the colors. He still has
- 18:40Speaker 3: orange in his uniform, so that's a win. So I
- 18:44Speaker 3: just I'm excited for him. There's a guy who's you know,
- 18:47Speaker 3: you're potentially gonna hit five hundred plus from on to
- 18:49Speaker 3: the magic level.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think we know how incredible that is. So I'm
- 18:52Speaker 2: just looking forward to seeing his journey continue. And you
- 18:56Speaker 2: know I'll see him, I'll see him on the line.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, Harrison, can can you help us settle a
- 19:01Speaker 1: debate here? So I want to ask you one more
- 19:04Speaker 1: question about your time with the Mets and with Pete.
- 19:07Speaker 1: We debate the measurement of how many gimmicks are okay
- 19:11Speaker 1: for a season the Mets. Carlosman Doz is on the
- 19:14Speaker 1: show all the time, and he's mentioned, you know, a
- 19:17Speaker 1: little too corporate. In twenty twenty five, they were whatever.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I don't know what the exact words. I don't want
- 19:22Speaker 1: to use, you know, his quotes or misuse him. But
- 19:25Speaker 1: we debated, like I loved it all right, Iglesias with
- 19:29Speaker 1: the song and Grimace and Pete had his own things
- 19:32Speaker 1: run in And you've been around clubhouses like say the
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yankees that are a little more straight edge for lack
- 19:38Speaker 1: of a better term. So in your mind, how much
- 19:41Speaker 1: can that help?
- 19:42Speaker 2: Right?
- 19:43Speaker 1: And the Mets had many other issues and pitching blah
- 19:46Speaker 1: blah blah from twenty twenty five. There was a difference
- 19:47Speaker 1: from twenty four to twenty five, but just you experienced
- 19:50Speaker 1: twenty four, So can you take us inside what that
- 19:52Speaker 1: was like and if you felt like that truly helped
- 19:56Speaker 1: the vibes and if there's a line for how much
- 19:59Speaker 1: you can do that.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I mean, it's it goes back to that classic thing
- 20:04Speaker 3: of like, you know, as long as it works, it's
- 20:06Speaker 3: not weird or you know, I think whatever whatever it takes,
- 20:11Speaker 3: whether it's gimmicks, whether it's songs, whether it's a playoff pumpkin,
- 20:16Speaker 3: I think whatever it takes is what's necessary, you know.
- 20:20Speaker 3: And I think it really just goes back to like,
- 20:23Speaker 3: you know, chemistry. Chemistry can certainly build towards winning championships,
- 20:28Speaker 3: you know, And we didn't win a championshipther year, but
- 20:30Speaker 3: we got really close. And team chemistry, locker room chemistry,
- 20:33Speaker 3: clubhouse chemistry is tremendously important, you know.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I think front offices do their best to build.
- 20:42Speaker 3: The the biggest, you know, the like the best, high character,
- 20:46Speaker 3: positive chemistry clubhouse, and I think a lot of times
- 20:49Speaker 3: that will translate into wins.
- 20:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I think energy is everything on that field individually, what
- 20:55Speaker 3: you bring to the stadium every day, how you go
- 20:57Speaker 3: to sleep at night, and how you communicate with your
- 20:59Speaker 3: teammates on the field.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I think energy is everything. Chemistry is everything.
- 21:02Speaker 3: So specifically in twenty twenty four, we had we had
- 21:06Speaker 3: the chemistry going.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that was a special year.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I mean I I still get messages and whenever I'm
- 21:16Speaker 3: like walking around if there's a Mets fan, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 3: I'm getting you know, the oh my god chant, you know.
- 21:20Speaker 2: A couple of years later, and it all started.
- 21:23Speaker 3: From you know, the players, And I think when your
- 21:25Speaker 3: front office, when your manager gives the players the right
- 21:29Speaker 3: and the ability to truly govern their clubhouse and govern
- 21:34Speaker 3: the chemistry and protect the energy of the clubhouse and
- 21:38Speaker 3: protect the chemistry of it all, you know, I think
- 21:41Speaker 3: good things can happen and you know, fun things that
- 21:43Speaker 3: the fans can engage with. So now it's not only
- 21:46Speaker 3: us on the field that are in the energy, but
- 21:48Speaker 3: now it's the fans that are living it, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 3: in the stadium and maybe when they go to work
- 21:52Speaker 3: that week or they come back, whatever it is. I mean,
- 21:54Speaker 3: we were kind of captivating with a lot of stuff
- 21:57Speaker 3: we did, which is so much fun. And I think
- 22:00Speaker 3: think the guys in the clubhouse, the players are the
- 22:02Speaker 3: ones that kind of dictate that for better or for worse,
- 22:05Speaker 3: So it can work both ways obviously.
- 22:07Speaker 2: So that was just a great team.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I'm happy to have been a part of it, and
- 22:10Speaker 3: I definitely learned a lot about myself and how I
- 22:12Speaker 3: fit into a clubhouse as a result of that season.
- 22:14Speaker 3: So that really wasn't inviable and invaluable.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Year for me.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Boom Mic drop Crafts. It's settled. You're not allowed to
- 22:20Speaker 1: reply on that one. Harrison gets the last word on kids.
- 22:23Speaker 5: We need some skits and.
- 22:25Speaker 1: They need to bring it back. Yeah, maybe we'll.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Get it, but no, you gotta have all. You know,
- 22:28Speaker 5: San Francisco, they're gonna love your skit. Dude. Come up
- 22:31Speaker 5: with all kinds of crazy skits out there and just
- 22:33Speaker 5: see see which one sticks. Every day, have a contest
- 22:36Speaker 5: with like some of the young kids, like make Bryce
- 22:38Speaker 5: Aldridge come up with a skit every day and have
- 22:40Speaker 5: the veterans vote on it and see which one sticks.
- 22:42Speaker 5: I don't know, come up with some fun like that.
- 22:44Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah, no, listen, I mean, it's just it's just such
- 22:47Speaker 3: a great opportunity to be able to get into a
- 22:49Speaker 3: new another another clubhouse, man, you know, like that's what
- 22:52Speaker 3: it's about. I mean, is there a version of this,
- 22:55Speaker 3: of this ride and this journey where maybe I would
- 22:57Speaker 3: have loved to have been a Cardinal my entire career,
- 22:59Speaker 3: Like sure, absolutely love San Louis more than anything. However,
- 23:02Speaker 3: the game did not have that in store for me.
- 23:05Speaker 3: So you have to pivot and you have to keep
- 23:07Speaker 3: it going because I know, you know, I can make
- 23:09Speaker 3: an impact not only in my own game on a
- 23:11Speaker 3: team's win, but also a lot of young players. The
- 23:13Speaker 3: same way when I was coming up in the Cardinal,
- 23:15Speaker 3: those guys looked after me, guys you know, took me aside.
- 23:17Speaker 2: We went to dinner and they saw I was struggling,
- 23:19Speaker 2: and they asked me that are you okay? You know,
- 23:21Speaker 2: stuff like that. So it's just so.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Important to just constantly be that positive energy, that that
- 23:25Speaker 3: vibrating energy that you know, guys turn to when things
- 23:28Speaker 3: get tough, because it's so easy to play this game
- 23:30Speaker 3: when everything's going right.
- 23:31Speaker 2: You know, it's how quickly.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Can we minimize what's going wrong to get back on track?
- 23:34Speaker 3: And I just really do try to pride myself on
- 23:37Speaker 3: being one of those guys and it's.
- 23:39Speaker 2: A team effort.
- 23:39Speaker 3: So you know, I get to do it again in
- 23:41Speaker 3: a new clubhouse, and I can't wait to just dive
- 23:43Speaker 3: into it all and see how it all shakes out.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's incredible. So you know, what a gift, right,
- 23:49Speaker 2: what a gift?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, we're excited for you, dude.
- 23:52Speaker 2: No, no way you got that for you.
- 23:53Speaker 5: By the way, no way you got any of that
- 23:55Speaker 5: from Soly just saying.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I want to lie.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I learned a lot from Selly. I learned a lot
- 24:01Speaker 2: from Selly, but.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Not that positive like, hey, you guys are good, because
- 24:07Speaker 5: I've seen his meetings after games. They're not like, hey,
- 24:10Speaker 5: you guys are good.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Definitely, well you know, yeah, but you know a lot
- 24:13Speaker 3: I got it from you know, you know, Brad, Brad
- 24:15Speaker 3: I get, I get.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I get everything. I get everything from Brad. I get
- 24:19Speaker 2: everything from Bad. I've said is coless times.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I still have Brad's voice in my head in between
- 24:24Speaker 3: pitches of that bad sometimes just to reel me in
- 24:27Speaker 3: to get the job done. I mean, you know, I
- 24:29Speaker 3: got a lot from Sully, but man, I still I'm
- 24:33Speaker 3: still learning from Brad to this day. So you know,
- 24:35Speaker 3: you know, a shout out to Brad.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Brad, just real quick, who's Brad smartest guy in baseball?
- 24:42Speaker 2: Hands down, hands down, smartest guy in baseball?
- 24:46Speaker 3: Was was a pro scout for it nineteen years prior
- 24:49Speaker 3: to coming to Florida, I believe it was, and he
- 24:54Speaker 3: was just assistant baseball coach at University of Florida. And
- 24:57Speaker 3: everyone who has been around him AJ knows him. He's
- 25:02Speaker 3: just just an incredible base online just keeps it so simple,
- 25:05Speaker 3: just to rill it all in there.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So again, shout out to Brad whitson.
- 25:09Speaker 1: There you go, Yeah, he got a nice minute on
- 25:14Speaker 1: a on a promo cut there.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I like it.
- 25:16Speaker 5: By the way, Scott, for people that don't know, he's
- 25:18Speaker 5: the scout the drafted and signed me. So that's why
- 25:20Speaker 5: he's the smartest guy.
- 25:22Speaker 2: That's a good connection. I didn't realize that. That's cool.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that. Still talk to him to this day,
- 25:28Speaker 5: Still talk to him to this day.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I spoke from a couple days ago.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. There's your UF promo video right there.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So enrollment through the charts after those two minutes. Un
- 25:42Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. Always really good to see you.
- 25:45Speaker 1: We'll catch it, some of us will be out there.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Congrats on the deal man.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you. I really do appreciate you guys, and
- 25:51Speaker 2: I talk about the game. I watch you guys a lot,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and I think everything you guys say is correct. So
- 25:59Speaker 2: I watch you guys, and I'm looking forward to seeing you.
- 26:01Speaker 1: First person ever say angels always correct. We'll take it
- 26:06Speaker 1: on it.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Thank you, guys are on it.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Thank you. We're working hard and appreciate it. Thanks Harry,
- 26:11Speaker 1: as soon as you do.
