- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, this is Donald Fazon and Zach Braff. So
- 0:03Speaker 1: this podcast we recorded it the same day after everyone
- 0:06Speaker 1: found out George Floyd getting murdered. First of all, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: do not necessarily know what to say to everyone out there. Truthfully,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I wish everything and everyone could be happy right now,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but that's definitely not what's going on in the world.
- 0:23Speaker 1: For me. This is a time where I feel like
- 0:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I wish that I could sit here
- 0:30Speaker 1: and say we're making progress, but we want to make
- 0:34Speaker 1: you laugh here. I will say this, I am very,
- 0:37Speaker 1: very supportive of the people out there fighting the good
- 0:39Speaker 1: fight that are protesting right now, and I stand with you.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We also wanted to let you know that the next
- 0:47Speaker 1: few podcasts were recorded before all of this has reached
- 0:50Speaker 1: such a fever pitch, and we didn't want you to
- 0:53Speaker 1: think for a second that we were being callous about
- 0:56Speaker 1: that and not dialed into what's happening. So we just
- 0:58Speaker 1: wanted to let you know the next few podcasts were
- 1:01Speaker 1: recorded prior to things being as they are currently. That
- 1:04Speaker 1: being said, I hope we can distract you from the
- 1:06Speaker 1: madness that's going on right now for a just an
- 1:10Speaker 1: hour and a half for just an hour and a half.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Sit back and enjoy this with us. Here we go. So, Donald,
- 1:18Speaker 1: you're five six minutes late. Well, well you know this
- 1:21Speaker 1: is how how we do and how do it? Five
- 1:24Speaker 1: minutes late? My wife hot boxed me. She took a
- 1:27Speaker 1: shower right before the podcast, and the shower is connected
- 1:31Speaker 1: to the closet, like got the shower itself, but the
- 1:35Speaker 1: bathrooms connected to the closet, right So it's like two
- 1:38Speaker 1: hundred degrees in here right now. Well, you're wearing an
- 1:40Speaker 1: Amazon shirt. It feels like, well I had this one
- 1:44Speaker 1: for the view today, man, which it looked great on
- 1:46Speaker 1: the view. We were on the View today, Donald's look
- 1:49Speaker 1: very handsome, and thank you very much. You changed your shirt?
- 1:52Speaker 1: I did. I put on a night I didn't. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: wanted to look good for for for the ladies, and
- 1:56Speaker 1: I put on a nice Did you look very nice? Anyway?
- 1:59Speaker 1: My wife hotbo to me. So it's like it's like
- 2:01Speaker 1: the Amazon jungle up in here right now, man, okay,
- 2:04Speaker 1: And I wanted to shang a tank too. Why don't
- 2:06Speaker 1: you switch to a tank top? We could watch it
- 2:07Speaker 1: happen live. Listen. Man, she's mad about something right now.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I don't know I did wrong. I don't know, man,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I don't know what. Sometimes you don't ever, you never know.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Sometimes she's just mad, she's just mad. I don't know.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I bet if you brainstorms, you could figure out what
- 2:22Speaker 1: you may have done. And this moment right now, I
- 2:25Speaker 1: can't figure it out. In other moments, I've been able
- 2:29Speaker 1: to put it all together and be like, oh, that
- 2:31Speaker 1: was I bet it's because of this. That's the worst.
- 2:34Speaker 1: When you can't figure it out, You're like, what do
- 2:36Speaker 1: I do? Dude, I have no idea. I've been good
- 2:39Speaker 1: to the kids, I fed them, I've done all of
- 2:43Speaker 1: that stuff. I just don't know. Well, listen, I think
- 2:45Speaker 1: we were really good on the view. It was hard
- 2:47Speaker 1: because there was a big delay yes and um and
- 2:52Speaker 1: more so than normal zoom. It was like a few
- 2:55Speaker 1: a second or two delays. So it's always tricky to
- 2:58Speaker 1: be funny when when you're stepping all over each other. Well,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I will say this. My mother, who does not listen
- 3:06Speaker 1: to our podcast, watched the view. She watched she said
- 3:11Speaker 1: we are great together. She was like, I'm gonna tell
- 3:13Speaker 1: you something. She was like, you and Zach interview so
- 3:16Speaker 1: well together. It's ridiculous. Oh, that's nice. Oh man, listen,
- 3:21Speaker 1: we want to cheer you up. If you're frustrated with
- 3:24Speaker 1: the universe and you're frustrated like Donald is, we're here
- 3:28Speaker 1: to entertain you. We're here to take your mind off things.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You might be on a hike, you might be walking
- 3:32Speaker 1: your dog, you might be breastfeeding, you might be doing
- 3:35Speaker 1: the dishes, you might be tugging one out. We are
- 3:38Speaker 1: here to make you laugh. Donald. If you're I'm gonna say,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna say one, can I just say one thing before? Yes,
- 3:44Speaker 1: say one thing? If you're tugging one out while listening
- 3:47Speaker 1: to us, Yes, thank you. We would like you to finish.
- 3:55Speaker 1: As as Donald counts down about show we made about
- 4:04Speaker 1: a bunch of dots and nurses and stories. Never so
- 4:13Speaker 1: get around here yet around here. I'm not sure if
- 4:24Speaker 1: the good people at I Heeart are going to approve that.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But they don't give a shit about that. They're not
- 4:28Speaker 1: even listening. They're not even listening. They don't care anymore,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, Like when we first signed with iHeart, they
- 4:33Speaker 1: were like, you know, you know, you guys can just
- 4:35Speaker 1: do whatever you want and we'll give you notes and
- 4:37Speaker 1: thoughts and take them leave them we haven't heard anything
- 4:39Speaker 1: from them. I think we're doing well enough that they
- 4:40Speaker 1: just let us do our thing. I love the people
- 4:43Speaker 1: over at iHeart. Let I just put it out there.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Let's just put it out there now wherever you're listening
- 4:47Speaker 1: to your podcast right now. Yeah, I heart has been
- 4:52Speaker 1: so awesome to us. Yes, and Will. We got to
- 4:55Speaker 1: give shout out to Will Pearson, who's the guy who
- 4:57Speaker 1: we first met, and he's really come through with all
- 5:01Speaker 1: his He pretty much said, you guys can do whatever
- 5:04Speaker 1: you want, and he's he's let us do our thing. Yeah. Well,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know, he didn't promise a lot of at the
- 5:09Speaker 1: first meeting we had with him, but he was definitely like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: this is a no brainer, guys, And well it is.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I mean, look at this comic gold here. Plus we
- 5:18Speaker 1: got we met, we met Dan and Joel. Yeah, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: know it's serendipitous if you really want to look at it.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So I want to thank Joel, I want to thank Dan,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I want to thank Will. I want to thank all
- 5:28Speaker 1: of you out there listening right now. Thank you so
- 5:30Speaker 1: much so far. We're so grateful. We're so grateful for you.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Neither one. DIALD and I always talk about how we
- 5:36Speaker 1: never thought this would be this much fun. We thought, uh,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know, we thought, Okay, that'll be something to do,
- 5:40Speaker 1: that'll be a little fun side project. But we are
- 5:43Speaker 1: having so much fun, and we we we know that
- 5:45Speaker 1: you are. We see that you're that you're listening, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: please tell your friends. We want to now we're now,
- 5:50Speaker 1: we're invested. Now we're like, let's fucking go for it.
- 5:53Speaker 1: We hope, we hope one day when the world opens up,
- 5:55Speaker 1: that we can tour the show. We'd love to. We
- 5:58Speaker 1: know that some podcasts come to cities all over the
- 6:00Speaker 1: world and do it live. We'll do it live and
- 6:03Speaker 1: Donald Live live. Donald and I would love to do that.
- 6:06Speaker 1: We'd love to come to your city and we'll show
- 6:08Speaker 1: the episode first and then we'll come out and we'll
- 6:11Speaker 1: do this exact show with Q and a's and audience participation.
- 6:15Speaker 1: We'll bring Dan and Joel. Of course, maybe we'll have
- 6:18Speaker 1: a tour bus. Donald. We'll get to finally live that
- 6:19Speaker 1: tour bus life we've always dreamed about. I would love
- 6:22Speaker 1: to have a tour with Joel and Dan on the bus. Well,
- 6:25Speaker 1: they get to come inside from the bus, but no,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I want them to. You know how your band always
- 6:29Speaker 1: travels in the bus. We'd be a four person band.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Oh god person band. I come with a couple of
- 6:34Speaker 1: groupies though I got a couple. Now, you're not rolling
- 6:37Speaker 1: with your kids and your wife. I can't tour with
- 6:40Speaker 1: my wife and kids after all of this, No you can,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but they're in a separate bus. If you're gonna stop
- 6:44Speaker 1: bringing a family with Joel and Dan and I are
- 6:46Speaker 1: going to be partying in the party bus and you
- 6:49Speaker 1: and your family can be in the family bus. I'm
- 6:51Speaker 1: going to be on the party bus. I want to
- 6:53Speaker 1: shout out I'm exciting, just to remind them of Donald
- 6:56Speaker 1: mentioned this. But we have coming up Krista Miller. We
- 7:00Speaker 1: have Sarah Chalk coming back on the show. We have
- 7:03Speaker 1: Scott Foley coming on the show. Yeah, we're hoping to
- 7:06Speaker 1: get Neil Flynn. We're still working his dates out with him. Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 1: We have a Shay Serrano who's an amazing writer who
- 7:14Speaker 1: wrote a his own self published book about Scrubs and
- 7:18Speaker 1: he's an amazing bestseller. And uh, he's the first you
- 7:21Speaker 1: will be the first official Scrubs mega fan to be
- 7:26Speaker 1: on the show because he's we have mega fans call in.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So no, I'm saying as a guest, as a guest,
- 7:32Speaker 1: no doubt. And then we're gonna get Brendan Frasier on
- 7:37Speaker 1: episode one twenty three, My Hero. And then we're gonna
- 7:40Speaker 1: close out season one with Bill Lawrence and Krista Miller
- 7:43Speaker 1: on at the same time. Hopefully they'll bicker and it
- 7:46Speaker 1: will be hilarious. I just I hope they argue. I'm
- 7:49Speaker 1: not gonna argue. You know, they always go on Howard
- 7:51Speaker 1: Sterning together and they bicker and tell dirty stories from
- 7:54Speaker 1: their marriage, and it will be great Bill and Chris
- 7:56Speaker 1: to have dirty stories. Oh yeah, I think there was
- 7:58Speaker 1: a story where they had sex see in a bathroom
- 8:01Speaker 1: at someone else's wedding. Oh my god, Bill and Christopher
- 8:04Speaker 1: freaks like that. Yeah, And I hope they're not just
- 8:06Speaker 1: sharing that naughty stuff for Howard Stern. I hope they're
- 8:08Speaker 1: gonna They've better not come on here and be two PG.
- 8:11Speaker 1: You know, people go on Howard and myself included, and
- 8:13Speaker 1: you want to be like, oh, I'm gonna tell my
- 8:14Speaker 1: most outrageous tales. Well, I hope they come on and
- 8:18Speaker 1: talk about banging in the bathroom at someone's wedding. I
- 8:21Speaker 1: can't get over that. Oh, my gosh. Also, for those
- 8:25Speaker 1: who are tugging, you're welcome. You should be done tugging
- 8:30Speaker 1: by now. Please, the show has started. You were supposed
- 8:32Speaker 1: to be done by five six eight. Do you want
- 8:38Speaker 1: to get into the show or do you want to
- 8:39Speaker 1: talk somebody? I just kind I'm having so much fun
- 8:41Speaker 1: talking to you, but we can, we can start the show.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It's a it's an odd show. I'm not gonna say
- 8:45Speaker 1: it's one of my favorites. Okay, okay, I know that's
- 8:47Speaker 1: crazy talk, but it's not. It's not one of the best.
- 8:50Speaker 1: There's a couple of cool things in it. The show
- 8:54Speaker 1: begins with an epic one er. This is the one
- 8:57Speaker 1: that we talked about a couple of times on the podcast. Now,
- 9:00Speaker 1: just to reiterate for those of you who who are like,
- 9:02Speaker 1: what the fox a wonner? I know some of you
- 9:05Speaker 1: know the film jargon, but for those of you who don't,
- 9:07Speaker 1: wonder is where the camera never cuts? That is to say,
- 9:09Speaker 1: there are no edits. The whole thing's filmed, and the
- 9:12Speaker 1: cameras mounted to Charles Pappards and no shafts and no
- 9:18Speaker 1: shaft Charles Pappard, all balls and no shaft and Charles
- 9:24Speaker 1: pepperd All Balls and No Shaft slid into my DMS
- 9:26Speaker 1: by the way, and said that he should come on
- 9:28Speaker 1: the podcast. I'd love to have Oh, that would be
- 9:30Speaker 1: so awesome. Yeah, I think we should have him one
- 9:33Speaker 1: as soon as he wanted to come on for well,
- 9:35Speaker 1: we're kind of full, as I just told the audience,
- 9:37Speaker 1: we had a full plate. But maybe for a season two. Yeah, absolutely, Man,
- 9:41Speaker 1: he should totally be on the show. It would have
- 9:45Speaker 1: been smart for us to have him on this episode
- 9:47Speaker 1: because there's this epic steady cam wonner that opens the
- 9:49Speaker 1: whole show. But he did. First of all, Charles Pappard
- 9:54Speaker 1: isn't a very big man, and he's one of in
- 9:58Speaker 1: my opinion, he's a great steady cam operator. He's a
- 10:02Speaker 1: great camera operator, but he's a great steady cam operator also.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And I remember this being very taxing on his body
- 10:09Speaker 1: one because I missed the jump shot so many times. Bill,
- 10:14Speaker 1: here's an opportunity for you to clown me. How many times?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Here that's here we go? How many times did I
- 10:20Speaker 1: miss that jump shot? Look, I don't want to exaggerate
- 10:27Speaker 1: it at all, but I would have to say that
- 10:31Speaker 1: Donald missed that shot. That jump shot at the beginning
- 10:34Speaker 1: of that long one er take. I want to say
- 10:37Speaker 1: he missed it at least seventy times in a row.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But to Donald could play ball. He actually played in
- 10:45Speaker 1: my basketball game a bunch. But I do want it
- 10:47Speaker 1: now committed to public record. Donald's older brother Dotta is
- 10:51Speaker 1: much much much better at basketball than Donald is, and
- 10:54Speaker 1: Donald has to live with that. I mean, his older
- 10:56Speaker 1: brother can ball. The guy's a rock star on the court.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So Joelle is going to put it on our show
- 11:00Speaker 1: notes and you can click the link to the video,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and I believe it's a it's a behind the scenes
- 11:04Speaker 1: of doing this epic warner, and you can see how
- 11:06Speaker 1: many times Donald misses the jump shot. Anyway, so we
- 11:10Speaker 1: do that, we finally hit it, and there are a
- 11:12Speaker 1: couple of times where Charles didn't do something right and
- 11:17Speaker 1: we had to go back to the beginning again. But anyway,
- 11:21Speaker 1: while watching this episode and watching this infamous warner, Yes,
- 11:26Speaker 1: as we get closer to the end, if you notice,
- 11:29Speaker 1: our energy just keeps picking up, and if we start
- 11:33Speaker 1: getting more and more excited, if you look at really
- 11:36Speaker 1: the person to watch is Sarah, because Sarah is going
- 11:41Speaker 1: nuts inside, like you can see her, like, yeah, we're
- 11:44Speaker 1: gonna do it. We're gonna do it, you know, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: you can see you're right. As you can see when
- 11:48Speaker 1: you watch the shot, there's so many moving pieces. There's
- 11:51Speaker 1: a lot of background. There's there's us, there's Donald hitting
- 11:53Speaker 1: the jump shot. Then we get on. Then we go
- 11:55Speaker 1: in to hospital. We get on a working elevator. We
- 11:57Speaker 1: actually got in the elevator. Do you recall the person
- 12:00Speaker 1: that was working the elevator for us? I wrote it
- 12:01Speaker 1: down Norm Norm. Yeah. Norm was a sort of an
- 12:06Speaker 1: all around utility guy on the scrub set. He would
- 12:09Speaker 1: work the air conditioning tubes, move them around and he
- 12:12Speaker 1: would and he dressed up because we needed someone to
- 12:14Speaker 1: be to actually operate the elevator. So we get in
- 12:17Speaker 1: the elevator with Kelso then we come out. We struck
- 12:19Speaker 1: down the hallway, we go into the ICU. The camera
- 12:23Speaker 1: whip hands to Johnny c still without having cut. It
- 12:26Speaker 1: comes back to us and then we come around the
- 12:28Speaker 1: corner and we were joined by Carla, and then it
- 12:31Speaker 1: whips around again and we see all the new men's students.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So that took I think we rehearsed probably a full
- 12:38Speaker 1: half day maybe, Yeah, it took a while too. It
- 12:40Speaker 1: took a while just to set the shot up. I
- 12:42Speaker 1: remember that, and then to get I remember we were
- 12:46Speaker 1: supposed to get the shot done before lunch, and we did.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And then but like by the skin of our teeth,
- 12:53Speaker 1: if I'm correct, I'm not, I'm not exactly sure, but
- 12:55Speaker 1: I know that there were so many other than me
- 12:58Speaker 1: missing a jump shot. There were so many things that
- 13:00Speaker 1: were involved that had to go right for it to work,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and sometimes it didn't work. And uh, and what Donald,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I agree with you. What you're saying is so by
- 13:09Speaker 1: the time we made it to the second floor and
- 13:12Speaker 1: we were kind of then the hard part was over.
- 13:14Speaker 1: We like did Donald's jumpshot, and we did the choreography
- 13:17Speaker 1: of the elevator and then we were struggling all the way.
- 13:19Speaker 1: We all three of us were like, oh shit, we're
- 13:21Speaker 1: making it. We're gonna make it, and you can see it. Sarah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: Sarah is the most excited you could tell. So when
- 13:28Speaker 1: I go give me some hungry chicken and you guys
- 13:30Speaker 1: are eating, watch her. She's like her. She uses both hands.
- 13:34Speaker 1: It was originally supposed to be one hand. She's using
- 13:37Speaker 1: both hands. She's pounding my hand. And that's why I
- 13:41Speaker 1: said to you, you're not hungry enough. You were getting
- 13:45Speaker 1: cocky too. You know, you made it to the end,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you started improving. You're like, yeah, that was improv Absolutely,
- 13:50Speaker 1: that's cute. Well, I gotta tell you that it was
- 13:53Speaker 1: really cool. And um, I wanted to say that if
- 13:58Speaker 1: you're looking for there's a lot of famous one ers
- 13:59Speaker 1: you can you can you can google it on online
- 14:02Speaker 1: and find some in some of your favorite movies. But
- 14:04Speaker 1: one of my favorites is and Good Fellas. If you
- 14:07Speaker 1: remember that iconic shot that goes down into the restaurant
- 14:10Speaker 1: when when he's bringing her on the first date and
- 14:13Speaker 1: through the kitchen and up into the restaurant and I
- 14:15Speaker 1: and and they're just really fun. Filmmakers and actors love
- 14:19Speaker 1: them because it's it's so challenging to pull it off well.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And um, I think this was the biggest one we
- 14:24Speaker 1: did in all of Scrubs. Yeah. Uh. One of my
- 14:28Speaker 1: favorite movies is Swingers, and they talk about you know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: slow motion shots and wonders. Uh, and yeah that I
- 14:36Speaker 1: think I think Scorsese's Good Fellas Wonner is probably one
- 14:39Speaker 1: of the best wonders in the history Yeah, moviemaking. Yeah, Yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 1: And it's just uh. I think it introduced me as
- 14:46Speaker 1: a young film student to how how cool they could be.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And there's an epic one in Orson Wells is some
- 14:53Speaker 1: touch of evil that opens the film as well. You know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: there's there's dozens of them, but um so this was
- 14:58Speaker 1: our homage. The Nutty Professor has one, and not the
- 15:02Speaker 1: one with Eddie Murphy, the one with Jerry Lewis where
- 15:05Speaker 1: he's before he walks into the club as Buddy Love.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You know, he's walking down the street and people are
- 15:10Speaker 1: stopping and looking at him like, you know, and you
- 15:13Speaker 1: not expect. You don't know what to expect when you
- 15:15Speaker 1: see him. You're thinking that the Nutty Professor is you know,
- 15:18Speaker 1: it's a Jacqueline Hide story and his mister Hyde is
- 15:21Speaker 1: like this grotesque thing. And when he walks into the
- 15:24Speaker 1: bar and finally you get to see what he looks like,
- 15:29Speaker 1: the reaction from everybody it makes sense, but it's like, wait,
- 15:33Speaker 1: hold up, y'all were acting like this was the scariest
- 15:36Speaker 1: dude on the planet and really it's just Buddy Love walking.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Have you ever seen a nutty professor? Oh my god, listen,
- 15:43Speaker 1: let me tell you right now. Jerry Lewis in that movie.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I know he said some questionable things on television and
- 15:51Speaker 1: stuff like that, but you want to talk about switching
- 15:56Speaker 1: it up when he plays the nerd and then he
- 15:58Speaker 1: plays Buddy Love. I gotta watch it. He says, some
- 16:02Speaker 1: of the monologues in that movie are amazing, Like he says,
- 16:05Speaker 1: some of the most amazing, Like he is a true
- 16:09Speaker 1: pimp in all sense of the word, in all respect,
- 16:12Speaker 1: all respect, all respect to to what's his name, Buddy Love,
- 16:18Speaker 1: Buddy Love. If you have to mention by, yeah, I'm
- 16:20Speaker 1: gonna check it out. Not to mention the fame. Now,
- 16:22Speaker 1: there's been some famous one or movies, including Birdman and
- 16:26Speaker 1: what was the one that just came out that everybody
- 16:28Speaker 1: loved so much? Nineteen seventeen. But that's CG two, though,
- 16:32Speaker 1: isn't it. No? They they hit they they well, they
- 16:35Speaker 1: didn't do a one or movie. They they hit a
- 16:37Speaker 1: bunch of cuts. But it's but they're still doing like
- 16:40Speaker 1: eight minute scenes with five hundred extras and incredible stuff,
- 16:44Speaker 1: things exploding. If you are if you are a film
- 16:47Speaker 1: geek like i am, go go watch behind the scenes
- 16:50Speaker 1: of nineteen seventeen and you'll see just some extraordinary filmmaking. Anyway,
- 16:55Speaker 1: So we just wrote that down. Dude, nineteen seventeen. Need
- 16:58Speaker 1: to watch Yeah, go watch behind. You've never seen the film,
- 17:01Speaker 1: have yet to see the film. Oh, the film's beautiful,
- 17:03Speaker 1: but more but I was told I needed to watch it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I was told I needed to see it in a
- 17:06Speaker 1: theater because of the scope. Yeah, but now you can't.
- 17:09Speaker 1: But I I saw a screener because we got it
- 17:11Speaker 1: for Awards season, and I love. I thought it was
- 17:13Speaker 1: so beautiful. I went to the theater. I said, I
- 17:16Speaker 1: got to see this, and I went and saw it
- 17:17Speaker 1: at the Dome. You know here in Hollywood we have
- 17:19Speaker 1: a big dome theater. And it was just gorgeous and
- 17:22Speaker 1: and and amazing acting uh um by everybody involved, and
- 17:27Speaker 1: it's beautiful. Yes, yes, sir um. At one thirty two,
- 17:32Speaker 1: we started strutting. I mean we are strutting. Yeah, that's
- 17:35Speaker 1: like a George Jefferson strut. It's like, yeah, it's like
- 17:40Speaker 1: the straight up where we're moving on up. Yeah, strut.
- 17:44Speaker 1: We were very serious. Look, I'm trying to tell you man.
- 17:47Speaker 1: We were so excited, very excited, so excited. And then
- 17:51Speaker 1: on Scrubs Wiki it was pointed out that at one
- 17:53Speaker 1: fifty two, you can see my mic cable. Um. Now
- 17:57Speaker 1: now now nowadays we would just you know, visual effects
- 18:01Speaker 1: are so much easier, you would just paint something like
- 18:03Speaker 1: that out. They just go in like like oh, you know,
- 18:06Speaker 1: like photoshop but moving video and just paint a little
- 18:08Speaker 1: mic cable out. But back in the day, we certainly
- 18:12Speaker 1: weren't going to scrap finally making it through because he
- 18:14Speaker 1: saw a little mic cable on him. But you see,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I gently lift up my shirt a little bit and
- 18:19Speaker 1: you can see where the hidden mic cable is on me.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So there you go, the little Scrubs wiki guy coming through.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Is this the first appearance of the Hungry Chicken at
- 18:27Speaker 1: two fifteen? I think this is the only appearance of
- 18:30Speaker 1: the Hungry Chicken? No? No, yeah, when did we do
- 18:33Speaker 1: it again? I feel like Hungry Chickens has been in
- 18:37Speaker 1: other episodes. Hey, Joel, have we set it up with
- 18:40Speaker 1: our Scrubs wicky guy to answer questions that we ask him?
- 18:42Speaker 1: If he might be down for that. Yes, he's very
- 18:45Speaker 1: down to do anything for this show. Um, we're had
- 18:48Speaker 1: to have him on as our fan caller, not this
- 18:50Speaker 1: week but next week and then yeah we can ask
- 18:53Speaker 1: him questions. Well, let's audition him. Now, Hi, what's his name?
- 18:56Speaker 1: By the way, Joel, I just call him scrubs Wicky.
- 18:58Speaker 1: What's his name? I would have to look so as
- 19:01Speaker 1: of right now he scrubs Wicky. Okay, scrubs Wicky. Um,
- 19:05Speaker 1: thank you for all your hard work. Is this the
- 19:07Speaker 1: only time that the Hungry Chicken ever appears in nine
- 19:10Speaker 1: seasons of Scrubs? And if not, when does it appear
- 19:15Speaker 1: in other episodes? Yo, Trevor from Scrubs Wicky here. According
- 19:19Speaker 1: to our records, the episode My Student is the only
- 19:22Speaker 1: appearance of Hungry Chicken. Donald at three fourteen, you say
- 19:25Speaker 1: something like, what is this thing we're doing? Baby girl?
- 19:29Speaker 1: So do okay? So I know we had a lot
- 19:31Speaker 1: of songs, but but this has no I do, but
- 19:36Speaker 1: I don't buy vaguely, but before you go into the song,
- 19:39Speaker 1: what there's no context for it in the episode at all? No,
- 19:42Speaker 1: there isn't. But this was you and I arguing about
- 19:46Speaker 1: R and B music, right, and you were like, dude,
- 19:50Speaker 1: all it is is dudes and girl. Dude saying baby
- 19:55Speaker 1: girl shook a doll and baby baby girl, I love
- 20:01Speaker 1: a girl maiming girl, right, and so we when you
- 20:06Speaker 1: said that, I remember laughing so hard because the pretty
- 20:09Speaker 1: much every song that's R and B keep it one
- 20:13Speaker 1: hundred y'all. Baby, Yeah, you're gonna hear the word baby. Definitely,
- 20:18Speaker 1: you're definitely hearing baby. You're mostly if it's a male artist,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you're most likely hearing girl. Yeah, yeah, definitely. Well, Donald
- 20:27Speaker 1: the time, you were listening to a lot of those
- 20:28Speaker 1: kind of songs, and I still do. I still do
- 20:31Speaker 1: Trey songs. I still listen to all of that stuff.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I love them to death. Listen. We had some great
- 20:36Speaker 1: guest casts. We had DJ Qualls remember him from well,
- 20:40Speaker 1: the most famously Road Trip. Yes he was from road Trip. Yes,
- 20:44Speaker 1: that was at the time. That was the most famous
- 20:47Speaker 1: thing he had done. One of my best friends on
- 20:49Speaker 1: the planet, Brecken Meyer, in that movie as well. I
- 20:51Speaker 1: remember DJ Quaals told me a story when we were
- 20:54Speaker 1: shooting this episode that he had made a bunch of
- 20:56Speaker 1: money and he was working a lot and he walked
- 21:00Speaker 1: and he doesn't do credit cards at all, wanted to
- 21:02Speaker 1: just pay cash, didn't didn't mess with credit cards, and
- 21:05Speaker 1: he walked into a BMW dealership to buy a fancy
- 21:08Speaker 1: car and he couldn't you know, a lanky, young kid
- 21:12Speaker 1: like him. He couldn't get anyone's attention. They just totally
- 21:15Speaker 1: ignored him, and he was really it was like totally
- 21:18Speaker 1: the pretty woman moment where he was like, you know
- 21:20Speaker 1: what the commission. Yeah, and he walked across the street
- 21:24Speaker 1: to the Mercedes dealership where someone finally gave him attention
- 21:28Speaker 1: and he bought him Mercedes with cash. Wow. Wow, he
- 21:32Speaker 1: had it like that. He got it like that. Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 1: he had the money like that, and he was like
- 21:37Speaker 1: and he just remember he was telling me the story
- 21:39Speaker 1: of his pretty woman moment where like no salesman was
- 21:42Speaker 1: even talking to him, and he was like, fuck these people.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And he walked across the street and bought him brought
- 21:46Speaker 1: up from the competitive dealership in cash. M Adrian Winner
- 21:51Speaker 1: played Sarah's med student. He's the Northwestern grad so we
- 21:54Speaker 1: know that he's a good actor, and I thought he
- 21:56Speaker 1: did a great job. He did such a great job.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I remember I looked at this. I didn't remember. You know,
- 22:02Speaker 1: it's me so I didn't remember the episode, but I
- 22:04Speaker 1: thought our guest stars were so good in this episode.
- 22:07Speaker 1: In particular, I have to say Kelly Williams, who played
- 22:10Speaker 1: Johnny C's love interest and was in part of your story. Absolutely. Uh,
- 22:15Speaker 1: she was great. Uh what show was she on at
- 22:18Speaker 1: the time, Joel, Do you know I was looking up
- 22:21Speaker 1: she's been on all sorts of stuff since because I
- 22:24Speaker 1: was kind of curious what she's been up to, and
- 22:25Speaker 1: I was imd being here, but she's been working non stop. Well,
- 22:28Speaker 1: yeah she was, but she was on a show I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think at the time, and we it was you might
- 22:33Speaker 1: be confusing her with a different guest star, but in
- 22:36Speaker 1: any event, she was very good and she and Johnny
- 22:39Speaker 1: were good together. Can we talk about Turk as a
- 22:42Speaker 1: wing man? Yeah, Turk is the best wing man ever. Yeah,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you were, you were You really didn't want to do
- 22:49Speaker 1: it until he was like, you idiot, Um, I'm obsessed
- 22:53Speaker 1: with your girlfriend. Helped set me up with someone else? Right, well, right,
- 22:58Speaker 1: that was the thing he I think Turk really enjoyed
- 23:00Speaker 1: the fact that, uh, doctor Cox, that Perry Cox was
- 23:05Speaker 1: in love with Carla and couldn't have Carla, you know
- 23:08Speaker 1: what I mean. I think he loved the fact that
- 23:11Speaker 1: I have something on you that you will never get.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And then when he threatened him and says, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'll be sitting here waiting, Turk knows I'm gonna fuck
- 23:19Speaker 1: up eventually, and when I fuck up, this dude's gonna pounce.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So I don't want this guy in the wings, right,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know when you're dating you know when you're dating someone,
- 23:27Speaker 1: and and this is more back in the day. It's
- 23:29Speaker 1: not really like a oh dude, I got I got
- 23:32Speaker 1: a great story for that dude. No, but the dude
- 23:34Speaker 1: had the friend who's in the wings, like always just
- 23:37Speaker 1: sitting there, just waiting for you to fuck up. My dude,
- 23:40Speaker 1: my friend, my friend, my friend. I dated someone and
- 23:45Speaker 1: when we broke up. I remember her calling me like, dude,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you'd be surprised at all of these guys that you
- 23:53Speaker 1: know were so tight with us as a group, like
- 23:57Speaker 1: you'd hang out with them. She's like, you'd be surprised
- 24:00Speaker 1: of who's hitting me up? Like I don't want to know, man,
- 24:03Speaker 1: it's it's you know we're no longer to gather, do you,
- 24:06Speaker 1: But holy shit? Yeah, but you still got mad about
- 24:09Speaker 1: that's still sketchy the dudes in the wings, Like, oh,
- 24:11Speaker 1: y'all broke up. It's like a better off dead. I
- 24:15Speaker 1: heard you broke up with Beth if I give her
- 24:17Speaker 1: a call. Yeah, that's a great movie too. That ship
- 24:22Speaker 1: is great when Barney he's watching The flint Stones and
- 24:25Speaker 1: Barney's like, hey, Lloyd, I hope you I heard you
- 24:28Speaker 1: broke up with Beth. Can I ask her out? That
- 24:32Speaker 1: movie's amazing? Better Off Dead? Check it out? Better Off Dead,
- 24:36Speaker 1: John Cusack. What about at five to eleven when when
- 24:39Speaker 1: when Kelly's character says to Todd that he is a
- 24:42Speaker 1: lap pinky. I've never heard the term lap pinky before.
- 24:46Speaker 1: What is a lap pinky? A tiny penis? Oh? Right?
- 24:49Speaker 1: When she calls him that, right with all the much cheese,
- 24:52Speaker 1: But she uses the word mucheesmo. You said you hadn't
- 24:54Speaker 1: heard that word before. She uses it in the show.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I've heard much cheesemo. I said it in something and
- 24:59Speaker 1: you were like, what wow, Donald with the macheese mo.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Kelly was on the practice. You were right about that,
- 25:04Speaker 1: thank you. Yeah, she's a very good actress and I
- 25:08Speaker 1: thought she did a great job. Lap pinky. I think
- 25:11Speaker 1: we gotta put that into our our lexicon on it
- 25:12Speaker 1: because that's a nice term for having a small penis
- 25:15Speaker 1: a lap pinky? Yeah, I just don't I don't. I
- 25:20Speaker 1: don't get it. But it's a pinky in your lap,
- 25:26Speaker 1: Now you get it. I totally get it now. Oh,
- 25:28Speaker 1: it took you a second. It took me a second.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I was off a little bit. Yeah, maybe it's the
- 25:32Speaker 1: Scotch anyway, lap pinky, Yeah, don't come around here without
- 25:36Speaker 1: lap pinky. I don't we know, we know, we know
- 25:41Speaker 1: you have a lap baby forearm on that note. We're
- 25:46Speaker 1: gonna go to break. We'll be right back. All we
- 25:56Speaker 1: do is talk about wieners on this show. I know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I know. I'm getting a lot of notes from my
- 26:00Speaker 1: girlfriend's mom about about our willis. Oh man, she calls
- 26:04Speaker 1: it the Eel cast, the eel Dude. You turned into
- 26:13Speaker 1: the fucking hawlk Yo. You turned into the Hulk. You know.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I was so happy that Joel wrote in her notes, um,
- 26:19Speaker 1: was that really you, Zach? When you turn in the Hulk? Joel,
- 26:22Speaker 1: that is a giant stuntman with a lot of with
- 26:25Speaker 1: much bigger muscles than I could ever grow. I just
- 26:28Speaker 1: love the fact that this is before like all of
- 26:30Speaker 1: the um like your movies have come out and everything,
- 26:33Speaker 1: like all the marble stuff, and you turned into the
- 26:37Speaker 1: Hulk like back in the old school day. Yeah, like
- 26:40Speaker 1: the cheesy, cheesy. That show is amazing. You didn't watch
- 26:46Speaker 1: that show when you were a kid, everybody watched the Hawk.
- 26:48Speaker 1: But come on, buddy, it like when you look at
- 26:50Speaker 1: the Hawk now cantors. But you're not putting it in
- 26:53Speaker 1: the context, dude, when we were kids, eighteen hunk, Yeah,
- 26:59Speaker 1: all of those shows. Man, six million dollars Man, remember that. Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 1: but when you look at at least the motherfucker jumped
- 27:06Speaker 1: over shit in the six million dollars Man and could
- 27:08Speaker 1: see remember that noise, Dan, can you put in that
- 27:10Speaker 1: that noise of when the six would jump. I love
- 27:17Speaker 1: that show. I did too. The six million dollars Man.
- 27:19Speaker 1: We can rebuild him, we can fix him. We can,
- 27:21Speaker 1: by the way, now nowadays it would be like the
- 27:23Speaker 1: one billion dollar Man. We have the technology, we can happen. Right.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Oh man, you only cost six million dollars to fucking
- 27:30Speaker 1: become become a robot man, to become a freaking sideboard.
- 27:34Speaker 1: How come no one's remade that we should remake six
- 27:36Speaker 1: million dollars the six million dollars Man. But as two friends,
- 27:40Speaker 1: as god, that would be hilarious. Let's do it, the
- 27:44Speaker 1: bionic Man and the bionic Woman. Oh my god, no,
- 27:47Speaker 1: we both get special powers. No, no, no one of
- 27:51Speaker 1: us get special powers. The other one is the freaking
- 27:53Speaker 1: dude on the computer. A oh, but I know which
- 27:55Speaker 1: one of us is gonna want to be the dude
- 27:57Speaker 1: in the computer. I guess you. I'm sure you will
- 27:58Speaker 1: mind because you go home to your kids a lot.
- 28:00Speaker 1: You'll work like an hour a day, like what do
- 28:02Speaker 1: I gotta do you care to be on the set
- 28:05Speaker 1: at the computer being like I'm enhancing the picture I'm
- 28:08Speaker 1: moving in. Yeah, he's got a bomb in his left pocket.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And then you just go home one day work, one
- 28:12Speaker 1: day work, and then I'm out there fucking sixteen hours
- 28:15Speaker 1: a day doing fucking leaps over buildings. I love it.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I think this is a great idea. I think this
- 28:20Speaker 1: is a show we should make. All right, Well, if
- 28:22Speaker 1: you're a producer out there in Hollywood and you want
- 28:24Speaker 1: to make a six million dollars n TV show a
- 28:27Speaker 1: dollar and I we're ready. No, not a TV show,
- 28:29Speaker 1: a movie, the movie. No. I think it should be
- 28:31Speaker 1: streaming on Netflix, oh my gosh. And it should be
- 28:33Speaker 1: just be like super silly, like like the powers they
- 28:37Speaker 1: gave me only work sometimes. Do you remember the greatest
- 28:41Speaker 1: American hero? My powers are faulty? Yeah? I heard they
- 28:44Speaker 1: were remaking that. Of course, I don't know what happened
- 28:46Speaker 1: with it, but I heard they were the greatest theme
- 28:47Speaker 1: song ever, believe it or not not, I'm walking on there.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I never thought I could feel so free, flying away
- 28:56Speaker 1: on a win and a prayer. Who could it be?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Believe it or not, it's just da dad. Now you're
- 29:10Speaker 1: trying to say you don't. You're trying to say that
- 29:11Speaker 1: show doesn't hold up anymore, and that was magic. It
- 29:13Speaker 1: really does not hold up anymore. If you watch that show,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you'll be like, oh my gosh, what about eighteen. I mean,
- 29:20Speaker 1: no one ever got shot. They're all firing a K
- 29:22Speaker 1: forty sevens at each other and no one ever gets hurt.
- 29:25Speaker 1: That's one thing we could say about our show. At
- 29:26Speaker 1: least people died on our show Man when they would
- 29:31Speaker 1: do the no and then they do the sequence where
- 29:41Speaker 1: they built shit, and now I'll be like, oh, what
- 29:42Speaker 1: are they building? Dan? Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan
- 29:49Speaker 1: Dan Danna Remember be a Baraccas, it wasn't Baracus. Remember
- 29:58Speaker 1: he couldn't fly. They'd have to do awesome. Yeah, Hannibal
- 30:01Speaker 1: ain't getting on the plane. You know, it's so funny
- 30:05Speaker 1: about that. It's so fucked up. They would like, they
- 30:07Speaker 1: would drug his ass so that he would fly. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and he fell for it every time. Every time they'd
- 30:12Speaker 1: be like, here sip this, mister t what is in
- 30:16Speaker 1: this strange concoction? What did you put in my banana? Right?
- 30:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat a banana right now. I hate you, Hannibal,
- 30:25Speaker 1: Damn you, Hannibal. You you put that secret flying juice
- 30:29Speaker 1: on my banana. But you turned into the incredible Hulk.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm sad to said. You know Marvel, you're
- 30:41Speaker 1: all those Marvel movies you love. They fucked up our
- 30:43Speaker 1: childhood classics. Like now everyone looks at the Hulk TV
- 30:46Speaker 1: show and they said that sucks. I thought it was
- 30:47Speaker 1: a masterpiece. Okay, you should go back and watch it.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I know I probably should try. Alma. So you turned
- 30:55Speaker 1: into the Hulk, and then Alma you're like you say
- 30:57Speaker 1: to her, you say to her something like he was horrible.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I I you know, I'm sorry, and she goes, you
- 31:02Speaker 1: don't got to apologize to me, but you will have
- 31:06Speaker 1: to apologize to Jesus. Yeah, hilarious. Whenever Aloma did her
- 31:11Speaker 1: her churchgoing woman preachy stuff, she was so funny, always, always,
- 31:17Speaker 1: She's one of those people that just could sell the
- 31:19Speaker 1: shit out of any line that was hilarious. You will
- 31:22Speaker 1: watch to apologize to Jesus if you watch this episode.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Every one of her lines is a punchline, you know
- 31:27Speaker 1: what I mean? Yeah, and they're all she's always and
- 31:29Speaker 1: they're always drive by. She's always walking by, every one
- 31:32Speaker 1: of them. Yeah, she crushes it every time. And what
- 31:35Speaker 1: about we need to get her on the show. Oh
- 31:38Speaker 1: we should, Well, we'll bid full up with guests. But
- 31:40Speaker 1: season two Aloma, right here we go. Joel put it
- 31:43Speaker 1: in the notes, please, um you pull out your booty
- 31:47Speaker 1: at twelve forty eight. I do. And it's to show
- 31:51Speaker 1: what what is it to show? It's to show you
- 31:54Speaker 1: what they love? You know what I'm saying. So what
- 31:57Speaker 1: you're saying and what Turk and you are both saying,
- 31:59Speaker 1: is when all else fails, you just do the slow
- 32:03Speaker 1: sag down and the woman see your juicy shelf butt. Yeah,
- 32:08Speaker 1: and they're sold. They're sold. I'm gonna tell you something
- 32:12Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, women aren't the only ones that can
- 32:16Speaker 1: have a nice booty. Okay, right, yeah, go ahead, that's
- 32:20Speaker 1: for real, for real. So are you feeling yourself when
- 32:22Speaker 1: it comes to you, like when you're in the mirror
- 32:24Speaker 1: and you check yourself out, You're like, look at my ass. No,
- 32:27Speaker 1: it's a different ass now. It's got a lot of
- 32:29Speaker 1: it's got a lot of wrinkles and sell you like,
- 32:32Speaker 1: maybe should do some squats, squat a lot. It doesn't
- 32:35Speaker 1: look like it did when I was twenty six when
- 32:38Speaker 1: we made this show list. We could do lunges. You
- 32:40Speaker 1: could do lunges. I do all of that, Zach. There's
- 32:42Speaker 1: no reason why a forty six year old man can't
- 32:45Speaker 1: have a tight ass. I'm gonna explain something to you
- 32:48Speaker 1: right now. Don't blame it on your age. Joelle's falling
- 32:50Speaker 1: off her chair, that is that is not an excuse
- 32:53Speaker 1: for you. Man, You could do lunges. I'm gonna explain
- 32:56Speaker 1: something to you right now. With age comes sag, and
- 33:00Speaker 1: you can work out as much as you look at
- 33:02Speaker 1: Johnny C the other day on Zoom. You don't think
- 33:05Speaker 1: Johnny C got a little bit of sag in him? No,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I bet you he's tight as fucking hell. Because Mutton,
- 33:10Speaker 1: it looks like Mutton. You could bounce a quarter off
- 33:13Speaker 1: his abs. Uh yeah, Mutton, I think that was firm
- 33:16Speaker 1: like Mutton. That was Yeah, that was me. I don't
- 33:19Speaker 1: even know if mutton's firm. It just sounded funny. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: think mutton is like supposed to be like very tender.
- 33:24Speaker 1: What is mutton? It's lamb, Yeah, it's lamb. I think
- 33:27Speaker 1: it's supposed to be very very tender when it's tender,
- 33:31Speaker 1: but to go it's firm like mutton. It just sounded funny.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I think I stole it from Princess Brody because when
- 33:39Speaker 1: the mutton is lean, remember that Billy Crystal, except for
- 33:45Speaker 1: like a mutton lettuce and tomato sandwich, when the mutton
- 33:48Speaker 1: is lean. Do you remember meeting Billy Crystal? Uh? Yeah, where?
- 33:55Speaker 1: And we want a plane where? And we were traveling
- 33:58Speaker 1: It was me, you can. I don't know where we
- 34:02Speaker 1: were going, but we were on a plane and we
- 34:03Speaker 1: sat with Billy Crystal the whole trip. And then we
- 34:06Speaker 1: saw him at the hotel too. Did we bother him?
- 34:09Speaker 1: I think it was Hawaiian, know, it had to be Hawaii,
- 34:12Speaker 1: and we were all He was just as much into
- 34:14Speaker 1: us as we were into him. He was very much
- 34:17Speaker 1: into you and you were very much into him. Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 1: He was very complimentary of me, and that made me
- 34:22Speaker 1: feel good because I love him and I grew up
- 34:24Speaker 1: on him like we all did. And uh yeah, Mutton
- 34:28Speaker 1: from Princess Brian Mutton from Princess Bride. When the Mutton
- 34:31Speaker 1: have fun fun stor Castle, You're think it'll work. It
- 34:35Speaker 1: would take a miracle, right, he said to Blade, which
- 34:42Speaker 1: we all know is true. Lia that great movie. Speaking
- 34:48Speaker 1: of crushes, um Robin right in that movie was just
- 34:53Speaker 1: about the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. Yes, I
- 34:56Speaker 1: love that movie. That's one of my favorite. I used
- 34:58Speaker 1: to watch that movie all the time. I remember introducing
- 35:01Speaker 1: it to my friends in the neighborhood who didn't see
- 35:04Speaker 1: the movie and being like, you guys haven't seen The
- 35:06Speaker 1: Princess Bride. I remember having a movie night at my
- 35:09Speaker 1: house just so my friends who had never been introduced
- 35:13Speaker 1: to The Princess Bride could watch The Princess Bride, and
- 35:16Speaker 1: we watched it on VHS, obviously in my room, and
- 35:20Speaker 1: I remember getting just such joy out of watching my
- 35:24Speaker 1: friends laugh so hard at something that was like it was.
- 35:28Speaker 1: It wasn't something that they would have gone to see normally,
- 35:30Speaker 1: you know, right? Did you think you did that more
- 35:32Speaker 1: often because you were dialed into all the theater world,
- 35:35Speaker 1: were you were. There are other times where you were
- 35:37Speaker 1: introducing your friend group to movies they might not have seen. Yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 1: that happened a lot. Actually, you know some of the
- 35:43Speaker 1: movie you know. I grew up with a bunch of
- 35:45Speaker 1: people who loved movies, though too so some of the
- 35:48Speaker 1: movies that I was introduced to, you know, at a
- 35:51Speaker 1: young age, like a lot of the horror movies and
- 35:54Speaker 1: stuff like. I had a lot of friends who loved
- 35:56Speaker 1: horror movies growing up, and I have an appreciation for them.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I don't watch them, but things like A Nightmare on
- 36:01Speaker 1: elm Street I would have never seen if it wasn't
- 36:04Speaker 1: for Jessica Macardo, you know what I mean. Like, and
- 36:06Speaker 1: you know Jessica, you've met her a couple of times.
- 36:09Speaker 1: If it wasn't for her, a lot of the horror
- 36:11Speaker 1: movies that i'd that I watch now when I don't
- 36:14Speaker 1: watch them, but that I watched as a youth, I
- 36:17Speaker 1: would have never seen him. And I would have never
- 36:18Speaker 1: known about that genre like the way I know it now.
- 36:23Speaker 1: And I was thinking just randomly, my father. Back when
- 36:27Speaker 1: before the I was introduced to the world of independent cinema,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I didn't know that there were movies that didn't come
- 36:33Speaker 1: to every theater. And a movie came out called The
- 36:36Speaker 1: Gods Must Be Crazy masterpiece and this did not come
- 36:41Speaker 1: to know South Orange, New Jersey, and my father said,
- 36:44Speaker 1: we're going to go into New York to see a movie.
- 36:47Speaker 1: And I was like, why aren't going to New York
- 36:48Speaker 1: to see a movie? And he said, well, not all
- 36:50Speaker 1: movies come into our town. And there's a movie that
- 36:52Speaker 1: everyone's talking about we're gonna go see. So he took
- 36:53Speaker 1: me a little independent cinema in Manhattan and we saw
- 36:56Speaker 1: that movie, which I believe was a South African movie
- 37:00Speaker 1: where the coke bottle fall from falls from the sky. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and it was one of the funniest, most brilliant movies
- 37:07Speaker 1: I'd ever seen. And uh, and it was like, it's
- 37:09Speaker 1: stioroughly good memory of my father introducing me to to
- 37:13Speaker 1: to an early version of independent cinema. Did you ever
- 37:17Speaker 1: see a Brother from Another Planet? The Brother from Another Planet?
- 37:20Speaker 1: Oh No, if you ever get a chance, go see
- 37:22Speaker 1: that one. That's we're giving we're giving our our our
- 37:24Speaker 1: listeners quite a good list of movies this uh, this podcast.
- 37:27Speaker 1: There's some good ones out there, guys, listen. If you
- 37:30Speaker 1: get a chance go see a Brother from another planet.
- 37:32Speaker 1: It stars Joe Morton, okay, and he literally is a
- 37:36Speaker 1: brother from another planet, the brother from another planet, and
- 37:39Speaker 1: one I remember one scene when I was a kid,
- 37:41Speaker 1: so before Harlem was gentrified, which it's very much now.
- 37:46Speaker 1: You know, all the white people used to get off
- 37:48Speaker 1: at ninety six Street if you were on the train, right,
- 37:50Speaker 1: no matter what line you were on, if there was
- 37:52Speaker 1: a ninety six street stop, all the white people would
- 37:55Speaker 1: get off because after that you were in Harlem. Right.
- 37:57Speaker 1: So there's this dude like trying to get off rights.
- 38:00Speaker 1: This dude on the train doing like tricks or something
- 38:02Speaker 1: like that, doing magic, and the brother from another planet
- 38:05Speaker 1: he doesn't speak that much, you know, he doesn't speak
- 38:08Speaker 1: English or anything like that. You know, when people ask
- 38:10Speaker 1: him where he came from, he just points to the sky.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And so the dude's trying to do all these tricks
- 38:15Speaker 1: and the brothers just not feeling it. And then finally
- 38:18Speaker 1: he goes. You know, you hear the conductors say next
- 38:21Speaker 1: stop ninety six street, and the white guy says to
- 38:23Speaker 1: the brother, he goes, you want to see me make
- 38:26Speaker 1: all the white people disappear, And everyone gets off at
- 38:30Speaker 1: nineties all the white people get off at ninety six Street,
- 38:33Speaker 1: And I remember as a kid, I used to I
- 38:35Speaker 1: remember getting on the train and getting I was very
- 38:38Speaker 1: young when the movie came out, and at ninety six Street.
- 38:42Speaker 1: If you were going downtown, all the white people got
- 38:44Speaker 1: on at ninety six streets. If you were going uptown,
- 38:47Speaker 1: all the white people got off at ninety six Street.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I remember this very much as a youth man. Wow,
- 38:53Speaker 1: so crazy a joke. I gotta see that. You've just
- 38:57Speaker 1: sold it to me. Donald, I'm watching it. If you
- 38:59Speaker 1: get it chance, Joe Morton brother from another planet. I
- 39:02Speaker 1: was laughing at thirteen fifty and there in the fantasy
- 39:04Speaker 1: where I'm teaching DJ Quals to ride a bike, because
- 39:07Speaker 1: I was laughing, going, I'm spoofing me at the age
- 39:12Speaker 1: I am now right right. That character I'm playing is
- 39:16Speaker 1: probably like a forty five year old dad like you
- 39:18Speaker 1: got this right, pushing his kid along. It's also it
- 39:22Speaker 1: also goes back to now you're doctor Cox, and it
- 39:27Speaker 1: goes to the grainy shot of you teaching the kid
- 39:30Speaker 1: how to ride a bike, where he's teaching you how
- 39:32Speaker 1: to throw a baseball. Didn't we do that one? You
- 39:34Speaker 1: know what I mean? Early on, So it's it's full
- 39:37Speaker 1: circle we do. Yeah, you know, I'm trying to be cocked.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I summon my inner doctor Cox in this episode so
- 39:43Speaker 1: much so that we mirror the pilot where I where
- 39:45Speaker 1: he fought. DJ's character finally has a moment of success
- 39:49Speaker 1: and I go, I cheer him on, and then he leaves.
- 39:52Speaker 1: And then and then Judy says, good ahead, and I
- 39:54Speaker 1: put my arms up in celebration, just like the pilot, right,
- 39:57Speaker 1: and then You're like, can you fix that for me
- 39:58Speaker 1: while I'm gone, Yeah, that's funny. I gave him a
- 40:01Speaker 1: peptog and then he still fucked it up. He never
- 40:05Speaker 1: comes back, That's what's crazy. He never came back after
- 40:07Speaker 1: this episode. None of them do. And other than other
- 40:10Speaker 1: than the love interest, then Kelly the love interest, none
- 40:14Speaker 1: of these characters came back. Yeah. I think DJ calls
- 40:18Speaker 1: at them. At that time. You know, his career was
- 40:20Speaker 1: on fire and he was just kind of coming by
- 40:22Speaker 1: to do a quick guest star role. Yeah. Um, then
- 40:27Speaker 1: you convinced Johnny C to show his ass, right, and um,
- 40:32Speaker 1: john C has a nice ass. I'm not gonna lie,
- 40:34Speaker 1: but it just didn't fit the character. So you like
- 40:37Speaker 1: Johnny seas ass. Though. It's not that I like Johnny
- 40:40Speaker 1: cs ass. It's just that you know, when you work
- 40:42Speaker 1: out that much, right, I mean, you could bounce, you could.
- 40:46Speaker 1: John C used to say that shit, you could bounce
- 40:47Speaker 1: a quarter off his ass. You know that, you know
- 40:50Speaker 1: that Johnny sees not the kind of guy who's skips
- 40:52Speaker 1: leg an ass day. Hell no, you know he doesn't.
- 40:55Speaker 1: You know far a fact he does, right, he got
- 40:58Speaker 1: this look. Man. When I started getting serious about working out,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I remember getting a text or call from Johnny C.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I was doing the Santa Monica stairs, and I guess
- 41:07Speaker 1: he drove by because Santa Monica and Malibu are very
- 41:13Speaker 1: close to each other. And I remember getting the call, Donald,
- 41:18Speaker 1: have you taken your workout to the next level? Did
- 41:21Speaker 1: I just drive by the Santa Monica stairs and see
- 41:24Speaker 1: you going up the Santa Monica stairs. I'm very proud
- 41:27Speaker 1: of you, Donald, I'm very very proud of you. You
- 41:30Speaker 1: gotta work the legs. You gotta work the legs. The
- 41:33Speaker 1: Johnny C told me that he listens to our podcast
- 41:36Speaker 1: as he's working out Tuesday and Thursday morning. So Johnny,
- 41:39Speaker 1: if you're listening to this, don't skip those squats. Buddy,
- 41:42Speaker 1: keep you he doesn't keep as keep that ass firm, Johnny.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Do a couple more reps. You could bounce a quarter
- 41:48Speaker 1: off of it. Yeah, can you still bounce a quarter, Johnny?
- 41:51Speaker 1: Or is it now just a penny solely? A penny
- 41:54Speaker 1: will bounce? Um? Also clueless. When I saw the pants drop,
- 42:02Speaker 1: I thought clueless right away? What is it with the
- 42:05Speaker 1: pants load thing? Okay, so this is where it's a
- 42:08Speaker 1: cultural thing. So in prison, they don't give you a belt,
- 42:12Speaker 1: they don't give you shoelaces because they're afraid that people
- 42:14Speaker 1: will hang themselves in their cells and stuff like that,
- 42:18Speaker 1: or use it as a weapon. Right, So you have
- 42:21Speaker 1: a bunch of people in prison walking around with their
- 42:24Speaker 1: pants sagging and their shoes not necessarily you know, flipping
- 42:28Speaker 1: flip flopping off their feet. So when we did Clueless,
- 42:33Speaker 1: this had been become a fashion statement in the inner city.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So like a lot of youth in the inner city
- 42:40Speaker 1: were wearing their pants sagging, just copying what they saw
- 42:44Speaker 1: from the ogs, you know what I mean? Right, right,
- 42:46Speaker 1: And so this became this became a thing, and did it? Yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I think the FAD's gone away, right or no, do
- 42:54Speaker 1: you still still see people doing it. Well, I'm an
- 42:56Speaker 1: adult now I still see it. I'm an adult now,
- 42:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna grown man now, so I prefer if you
- 43:00Speaker 1: would have picked I don't want to see your underwear.
- 43:03Speaker 1: But when I was a youth, I was like, oh shit,
- 43:06Speaker 1: this you know this is I did it all the time,
- 43:08Speaker 1: so I know mine from an adult point of view though,
- 43:11Speaker 1: it's a pretty ridiculous style. Absolutely, but you have to
- 43:15Speaker 1: be an adult to be like I don't like that style,
- 43:17Speaker 1: of course, But I kid, you're like, look at all
- 43:19Speaker 1: the ogs did it? You know what I mean? There
- 43:21Speaker 1: was somebody did it, of course, and I'm sure that
- 43:25Speaker 1: I subscribe to some style that I would think is ridiculous.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Now very low v nex dude, I've seen you with
- 43:31Speaker 1: your pants sag and low too, So you can't not
- 43:34Speaker 1: like your character did in the show. Dude. Well, no,
- 43:37Speaker 1: not like that, but I've seen it. But I had
- 43:39Speaker 1: some embarrassingly low V nex did you really? Yeah? I
- 43:43Speaker 1: went through a low V neck phase. Do you like
- 43:46Speaker 1: a V neck? Did you? Well? Now you can't because
- 43:49Speaker 1: there are certain things that I used to do. A
- 43:51Speaker 1: cargo shorts, I guess are done. My girlfriend said, no way,
- 43:54Speaker 1: do you fucking can I wear those cargo shorts? You know?
- 43:56Speaker 1: When I wear cargo shorts when I go to play golf.
- 43:58Speaker 1: That's it. I think most women, and Joel, if you
- 44:01Speaker 1: wouldn't mind speaking on behalf of all women in the
- 44:04Speaker 1: world are pretty. Are pretty over cargo shorts. They're not.
- 44:09Speaker 1: They're not attractive on anybody. So yo, saggy leg. This
- 44:14Speaker 1: is when you knew cargo shorts was a rap. When
- 44:17Speaker 1: Adam Sandler stopped wearing cargo shorts, you knew. Okay, I
- 44:21Speaker 1: guess cargo shorts is over. Well, it's funny, it was
- 44:23Speaker 1: for years. It was like, I don't know if the
- 44:25Speaker 1: Grip and Electric guys are still wearing them, but that
- 44:27Speaker 1: was the go to uniform, was cargo shorts, right, even
- 44:30Speaker 1: in freezing weather. Yeah. And I had a bunch of them.
- 44:33Speaker 1: And I recently tried to pull out a bunch and
- 44:38Speaker 1: showed Flow and she said, do you have to take
- 44:41Speaker 1: those off immediately? Yeah? I agree, So they're done. But
- 44:44Speaker 1: I can't get I can't throw them away. I feel,
- 44:47Speaker 1: do you have stuff in your closet you cannot wear anymore?
- 44:49Speaker 1: But you're well, obviously we're looking at your closet, but
- 44:51Speaker 1: you cannot wear anymore. You're like, I can't wear those anymore,
- 44:53Speaker 1: but you just can't throw them away. They have nostalgia
- 44:55Speaker 1: for them. They might come back too. Yeah, and I'll
- 44:58Speaker 1: be fucking locked and loaded when cargo shorts come back.
- 45:00Speaker 1: All right, do we need to take a break, Joel
- 45:01Speaker 1: or what? We're gonna take a break, and when we
- 45:04Speaker 1: come back, we're gonna have a fan caller. Enjoy these
- 45:08Speaker 1: beautiful words. Dude can make that I'm good noise. We
- 45:21Speaker 1: used to donal and I used to make this noise
- 45:22Speaker 1: whenever Sarah was like it was like late and we
- 45:25Speaker 1: were all going stir crazy. We'd go and it would crack.
- 45:30Speaker 1: It would crack her up, and no one could hear it,
- 45:32Speaker 1: like the director or the producer of Randall. No one
- 45:35Speaker 1: could hear that we were doing it. And she'd be like,
- 45:36Speaker 1: stop doing that, and she'd be cracking up. Just back,
- 45:38Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Like, Sarah, everyone's tired. Do
- 45:41Speaker 1: you want to go home? Stop fucking up? And then
- 45:43Speaker 1: she started her line and we go, oh, I missed
- 45:50Speaker 1: that crazy girl. She's coming. She's coming on when when
- 45:53Speaker 1: Joel Friday, right, Friday's Krista, Oh yeah, next week we
- 45:58Speaker 1: got up. We got Sarah Chalk, the legendary Canadian. All right,
- 46:02Speaker 1: b J Mendelson. Okay, before we get into b J Mendelson,
- 46:07Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say this out loud. A lot of
- 46:09Speaker 1: people are getting pissed off at my Oprah shit. Why
- 46:13Speaker 1: because some people are mad that I'm saying doing the
- 46:15Speaker 1: Oprah stuff. No fuck that you're reading too many comments, Tode.
- 46:18Speaker 1: I know. I told you in the beginning of you're
- 46:23Speaker 1: you're doing two different dives. I engage with a little.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I engage a little, especially with the nice people, and
- 46:30Speaker 1: then you just dismount. You're like, you're like getting in
- 46:32Speaker 1: your head. Oh, your Oprah voice is one of the
- 46:34Speaker 1: reasons I come to work every day. Well, in that case,
- 46:37Speaker 1: give it up for BJ Mendelson. Hey, I didn't know
- 46:45Speaker 1: this was gonna be like a video thing, so I'm
- 46:48Speaker 1: like wearing my trashy shirt. You look great. We're gonna
- 46:53Speaker 1: apologize to our listeners that BJ doesn't have the ideal
- 46:57Speaker 1: the ideal set up because he has a microphone that's
- 47:00Speaker 1: a little wacky. But we're gonna fix it in post,
- 47:02Speaker 1: are you Dan? I am? That's why do you play?
- 47:06Speaker 1: What do you play? Bj? Cod I'm embarrassed to say Fortnite,
- 47:13Speaker 1: And I could tell you it was my nieces and
- 47:15Speaker 1: nephew that that got me into it because I let
- 47:17Speaker 1: me ask you a question. Do you default dance? I do? Okay?
- 47:23Speaker 1: Do you use Donald Stunt dance? That's the default dance? Okay? Sorry? Now,
- 47:28Speaker 1: now why are you embarrassed? BJ? I don't really know
- 47:30Speaker 1: much about gaming these days. Is Fortnite just meant for children? No?
- 47:36Speaker 1: Then why is he embarrassed about it? Because I made
- 47:38Speaker 1: a big stink about how much I do not like
- 47:41Speaker 1: Fortnite because they stole my dance. But I don't give
- 47:44Speaker 1: a shit. To be honest with you, I'm very very
- 47:46Speaker 1: very I'm very very happy that they stole my dance.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I think you were I think you were misquoted when
- 47:52Speaker 1: you caused a little controversy. You were joke. You were
- 47:55Speaker 1: sort of joking, and then there were people who were like,
- 47:57Speaker 1: if they take off that dance because of you? Fuck
- 48:00Speaker 1: you dude. They were I've never had more twelve year
- 48:03Speaker 1: old boys mad at me in my life. Yeah, dude,
- 48:07Speaker 1: well you threatened to take away their dance. I didn't threaten.
- 48:10Speaker 1: All I did was said. All I did was say
- 48:12Speaker 1: you know, they jacked it and then out of nowhere
- 48:15Speaker 1: like it was a bunch of kids like fuck you.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You has been It's because nobody watches your shit anymore.
- 48:20Speaker 1: You suck anyway. It's because what you didn't get any
- 48:24Speaker 1: money making scrubs. You didn't get any money making. You
- 48:28Speaker 1: get all riled up because you made a joke about
- 48:30Speaker 1: the Fortnite dance. And I'm fine with that, you know
- 48:33Speaker 1: what I mean, And and I'm fine with it being
- 48:35Speaker 1: the default dance. What are the other dances that BJ
- 48:38Speaker 1: could use? Well, there's the backpack Kids one where it's like,
- 48:41Speaker 1: oh yeah, backpack kid, and then you need to pay
- 48:44Speaker 1: more money for that. I don't know. I don't know
- 48:46Speaker 1: if that's something you want lock or not. I'm still
- 48:48Speaker 1: new to it. I am still like, as long as
- 48:52Speaker 1: you do with the Turk dance, it's all good. Yeah.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Do you find yourself BJ and Fortnite? Do you talk
- 48:59Speaker 1: to other people? No? I try not to. But that
- 49:02Speaker 1: was my big thing was I'm kind of just you know,
- 49:04Speaker 1: I'm an author, so I don't socialize well with others.
- 49:08Speaker 1: So playing like these online games where people are talking
- 49:12Speaker 1: shit to you is like a new experiencer especially when
- 49:14Speaker 1: you're thirty seven and have never played these things in
- 49:17Speaker 1: your life. So do you and do you choose to
- 49:18Speaker 1: not engage with angry twelve year olds? I try not to. Okay,
- 49:22Speaker 1: it's probably good. It's probably good. I think I would
- 49:24Speaker 1: get upset. And I think personally if I did it,
- 49:26Speaker 1: if somebody was like, fuck your mother, and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I'm just trying to fucking save the world here, everybody
- 49:31Speaker 1: comment right, exactly the worst thing in the world to
- 49:33Speaker 1: hear a kid yelling at your trash. P me, pev pamy,
- 49:39Speaker 1: pav paymy. What does that mean? Pvpe me like, play
- 49:43Speaker 1: me like versus just okay, player first player BJ. Do
- 49:49Speaker 1: you play any other games besides Fortnite? Or is this
- 49:51Speaker 1: year right now? It's wild Fantasy seven? You're a role player?
- 49:56Speaker 1: Hold on, ye did you play Dungeon and Dragons growing up? I? No,
- 50:00Speaker 1: I was in Magic the Gathering Kids, same shit, same, yeah,
- 50:03Speaker 1: it is, It's true, that's cards. Yeah, yeah, that was
- 50:08Speaker 1: a difference. Got very addicted to the Star Wars role
- 50:13Speaker 1: playing game. Don what was that one? I remember that? Yeah?
- 50:16Speaker 1: When I was it was the Star Wars game. I
- 50:17Speaker 1: don't remember what it was called, but there were a
- 50:19Speaker 1: bunch of different ones. I even DM it. Oh my god,
- 50:23Speaker 1: Jedi Fallen Order, Donald, No, no, no, no. Jedi Fallen
- 50:26Speaker 1: Order is a video game. We used to play it
- 50:29Speaker 1: like it was Dungeons and Dragon. No. No, no, no no,
- 50:31Speaker 1: that's not what I mean. Okay, but what I'm talking
- 50:33Speaker 1: about in our adulthood during the time of Scrubs, you
- 50:36Speaker 1: were playing a Star Wars Galaxies. Yeah, Star Wars Galaxies
- 50:42Speaker 1: when that came out, I remember that game. I wish
- 50:45Speaker 1: they didn't cancel it because look, it started off just
- 50:48Speaker 1: as a role playing game that you would play on
- 50:50Speaker 1: different planets, and then they introduced being able to fly
- 50:54Speaker 1: in ships, right, And I remember at one point I
- 50:57Speaker 1: got to talk to one of the head developers of
- 51:01Speaker 1: the game, and I was like, you should make it
- 51:03Speaker 1: so that you could jump in ships on the ground
- 51:06Speaker 1: and fly in atmosphere and then from atmosphere take it
- 51:09Speaker 1: to space. And then the game freaking failed eventually. But
- 51:14Speaker 1: how can a Star Wars game fail? It just doesn't
- 51:16Speaker 1: seem like it's possible. You know, you change it enough
- 51:19Speaker 1: times and then people lose interests. You know. What happens
- 51:22Speaker 1: is is that it starts off and it's pure, and
- 51:26Speaker 1: then you start adding things. And once you start adding things,
- 51:30Speaker 1: you know, people lose interest after a while, you know.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Perfect example, George Lucas with the original series, with the
- 51:41Speaker 1: original trilogy, it was, you know, it was shot a
- 51:45Speaker 1: certain way, and he wasn't happy with it, so he
- 51:48Speaker 1: started adding things. And the more he added, it seemed
- 51:52Speaker 1: like the more fans were like, I don't like that.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I don't like that. You don't need to add now.
- 51:56Speaker 1: For me, I like the adding. I like that he
- 51:59Speaker 1: added things because it made it cleaner, and it made
- 52:01Speaker 1: it faster, and it made it you know, if you
- 52:04Speaker 1: watch the original and New Hope, it's not as the
- 52:08Speaker 1: special effects in it aren't as glorious as they are
- 52:13Speaker 1: now when you watch it on Disney. Plus that being said,
- 52:19Speaker 1: there are a lot of people that don't like that,
- 52:21Speaker 1: do not like him going and retouching. I for one,
- 52:25Speaker 1: do like the retouch I think I think there are
- 52:28Speaker 1: certain movies that still like. People got mad when they
- 52:31Speaker 1: retouched et you know what I mean. I, for one,
- 52:35Speaker 1: wasn't that mad at it. I'm gonna be honest. All right, Well,
- 52:38Speaker 1: we should probably ask BJ some of his thoughts yea,
- 52:40Speaker 1: though this is a rarity. I usually everyone I encounter
- 52:44Speaker 1: hates the touch ups to the original trilogy. I don't
- 52:47Speaker 1: mind them at all. The only one that I freak
- 52:49Speaker 1: out about is the one everyone freaks out about with
- 52:51Speaker 1: great those shooting first, right, that's bullshit, come out, yeah right,
- 52:55Speaker 1: like that's the old the rest of it. I really
- 52:57Speaker 1: I remember getting in line at this theater when they
- 53:00Speaker 1: at least because forty, I wasn't old enough pretty riginal
- 53:02Speaker 1: Star Wars. So when they see you're pretty close to
- 53:04Speaker 1: it though, right, you said you're thirty, I just yeah,
- 53:07Speaker 1: I just turned thirty seven, so nine years younger than
- 53:09Speaker 1: us or so. Yeah. So my like my first Star
- 53:12Speaker 1: Wars is the Phantom Menace, which is I'm ashamed to
- 53:15Speaker 1: say that out loud, dude, you shouldn't be, because the
- 53:17Speaker 1: Phantom Menaces new energy behind it thanks to Dave Filoni.
- 53:21Speaker 1: But okay, true, true, and plus it had the great
- 53:24Speaker 1: odd racing and sixty four game right well, which was amazing.
- 53:29Speaker 1: But I liked all the touch ups that they because
- 53:31Speaker 1: to me, it was like, all right, it looks like
- 53:33Speaker 1: everything else because when I remember watching on VHS, I
- 53:36Speaker 1: kind of fell asleep, right because it didn't look you know,
- 53:39Speaker 1: when I was literally didn't look as crisp as some
- 53:41Speaker 1: many other things that I was used to seeing at
- 53:42Speaker 1: that age. Right, where do you live, BJ, I'm up
- 53:46Speaker 1: in Monroe, New York, which is if anyone knows what
- 53:49Speaker 1: Woodberry Commons is, it's a large tourist trap. Okay, said
- 53:53Speaker 1: you're a writer, are you? Are you a novelist? Yeah?
- 53:55Speaker 1: So I'm the author of a book called Social Media
- 53:58Speaker 1: is Bullshit. I wrote it in plenty twelve, so I
- 54:00Speaker 1: was a little out of its time. I'm happy to
- 54:02Speaker 1: give it away for free. If anyone wants a free copy,
- 54:05Speaker 1: all they have to do is just hit me up
- 54:06Speaker 1: on Twitter. It's like I said, it's an older book. Ironically,
- 54:09Speaker 1: they're gonna have to hit you up on social media. Right.
- 54:11Speaker 1: So that was the thing that was the thing that
- 54:13Speaker 1: I got a lot when it came out, was it
- 54:15Speaker 1: was like, oh, hey, well, you know you've got this
- 54:16Speaker 1: big presence on Twitter, but social media is bullshit. And
- 54:19Speaker 1: when I said, people, was it not the tools? That's
- 54:22Speaker 1: how you use it. And that's the part that where
- 54:24Speaker 1: you run intold this bullshit. Yeah, bid dad, I feel
- 54:27Speaker 1: like you'd be a guest and we could just talk
- 54:29Speaker 1: to for hours about Yeah, as long as you guys
- 54:31Speaker 1: don't go down in the Star Wars root every fucking
- 54:33Speaker 1: five minutes, because I see I see Joel like nodding again,
- 54:37Speaker 1: like she's like as though she's yelling preach when you
- 54:39Speaker 1: guys start to talk. So yeah, she's got her hand
- 54:42Speaker 1: up in the air, like you preach. I gotta tell you,
- 54:46Speaker 1: I gotta tell you for the it's it's scrub. Yes, yes, please.
- 54:49Speaker 1: I have never felt so old, and now you know,
- 54:53Speaker 1: knowing that you guys older than I am, I can
- 54:55Speaker 1: only mention how you could feel. I was pitching this
- 54:58Speaker 1: TV show and I can't, you know, can't say too
- 55:00Speaker 1: much about it. But what I can't say is that
- 55:01Speaker 1: it's about the six million dollars man, because we just
- 55:03Speaker 1: pitched it live on this show, So don't steal that,
- 55:06Speaker 1: all right again, it totally should be. It totally should be.
- 55:08Speaker 1: That's due for a remake, although we've inflation. I think
- 55:11Speaker 1: you might have to adjust it slightly. Yeah, said, we
- 55:14Speaker 1: said you wouldn't get very far with rebuilding him for
- 55:16Speaker 1: six minutes. Maybe his feet, Yeah, you would get the feet,
- 55:19Speaker 1: maybe like the decas he would just fall over a lot.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Uh so, but this kid, the kid, the kid that
- 55:24Speaker 1: would start in the show, is only like twenty and
- 55:26Speaker 1: twenty one. And so as I was going through with
- 55:29Speaker 1: him and explaining like the look and to feel, I
- 55:31Speaker 1: was like, you know, it's it's a lot like Scrub
- 55:32Speaker 1: season one and Scrub season eight, where it's a little goofy,
- 55:35Speaker 1: but it's also got like a little bit of darkness
- 55:38Speaker 1: to it. And he was humoring me. He's like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 55:41Speaker 1: I remember Scrubs. And then uh like got off the
- 55:44Speaker 1: phone and the producer calls me right back and he's
- 55:45Speaker 1: like he has no idea what the fuck Scrubs it? Like,
- 55:48Speaker 1: like what Scrubs was on? He was maybe too And
- 55:53Speaker 1: for me, like is this kid a successful actor? He
- 55:56Speaker 1: is a successful TikTok star. Oh well yeah, yeah right,
- 56:00Speaker 1: Like yeah, so on the way, Donald, TikTok was out
- 56:04Speaker 1: when when you were young, you would have been a
- 56:06Speaker 1: TikTok star because you all would have been TikTok. No,
- 56:09Speaker 1: but I can't dance like you can do those moves, dude, No,
- 56:12Speaker 1: but you would have. You would have figured out a
- 56:14Speaker 1: way to freaking look man, you did Garden State. You
- 56:17Speaker 1: would have figured out a way to make a fucking
- 56:19Speaker 1: movie on TikTok that everybody loved, even if it was,
- 56:22Speaker 1: like you know, only however long TikTok allows it, you
- 56:25Speaker 1: would have figured out a way. You're a very bright boy,
- 56:28Speaker 1: Thank you, very bright. Do you do you ever see
- 56:30Speaker 1: that video of the girl on TikTok and she's like
- 56:32Speaker 1: vent viral. She's sobbing, but she's still doing her TikTok
- 56:35Speaker 1: dance for the song and some comedian I forgot, I
- 56:39Speaker 1: don't know who it was, but they wrote like maybe
- 56:42Speaker 1: maybe wait till you're done with your breakdown, until you
- 56:44Speaker 1: to do the dance. But she's trying to make a
- 56:46Speaker 1: point that like I'm still gonna dance through this sad
- 56:49Speaker 1: moment and she's doing all the choreography but she's bawling.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I've never seen this. Have you got a BJ Have
- 56:54Speaker 1: you seen that I have? I gotta tell you I
- 56:56Speaker 1: tried like hell to avoid TikTok and snapchat, but it's
- 56:59Speaker 1: the thess nephews there that age group where that's all
- 57:02Speaker 1: there on. Look at my daughter, that's all she watched.
- 57:06Speaker 1: My daughter, not my not my not my five year old,
- 57:09Speaker 1: but my twenty one year old just walks through the house. Dad,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you gotta check this out. And it's nothing but TikTok
- 57:14Speaker 1: shit Like it's so much. I would get my daughter
- 57:18Speaker 1: up my five year old up here right now. But
- 57:19Speaker 1: my twenty one year old daughter has corrupted Kaya has
- 57:22Speaker 1: corrupted Wilder so much that Wilder is now doing the
- 57:27Speaker 1: Savage challenge. I'm a savage, classy bougie ratchet. Can you
- 57:34Speaker 1: get her up here? We got to hear it. Hold up, Wilder,
- 57:44Speaker 1: this might be worth it. BJ You're about to get
- 57:46Speaker 1: a special. She's warming up because she used to she
- 57:50Speaker 1: used to know. She used to not perform on cue.
- 57:52Speaker 1: But we're gonna turn her into a We're gonna turn
- 57:55Speaker 1: her into a child actress. If it's the death of us,
- 57:57Speaker 1: that's that's fantastic. That guy have to tell you. Um
- 58:00Speaker 1: so that just real quick. The Garden State soundtrack for
- 58:03Speaker 1: my college radio station was all that they would play
- 58:07Speaker 1: when it came out, So I just I would I
- 58:08Speaker 1: feel obligated to share that with you than welcome to
- 58:12Speaker 1: come back? Thank you? Yeah? Yeah, it was Donald jokes
- 58:17Speaker 1: that I want to grab me for a mixtape, but
- 58:18Speaker 1: it's He's right. It was just the music I was
- 58:20Speaker 1: me and my friends were listening to and it felt
- 58:22Speaker 1: really appropriate for the UH, for the era that the
- 58:25Speaker 1: film was about. And then UH, with the help of
- 58:28Speaker 1: my editor Myron Kirsteine, Um, he really gets all the
- 58:32Speaker 1: credit for putting them in the right spots. He I made.
- 58:35Speaker 1: I just made a giant playlist, and then I'd let
- 58:38Speaker 1: him go attack some scenes and then he'd come back
- 58:40Speaker 1: and he'd go, Dude, I've just put the Paul Simon
- 58:43Speaker 1: song on this moment, and you got to see it.
- 58:45Speaker 1: And I would watch it and get goosebumps up and
- 58:47Speaker 1: down my arms, like, yeah, we're never gonna be able
- 58:49Speaker 1: to get that song. But that's a key ber. Oh,
- 58:54Speaker 1: there's Rocko, there's Roco none, hold on, come on, all right,
- 59:01Speaker 1: all right Wilder by Wilder performed backup. You don't need
- 59:07Speaker 1: the music. He's just doing without the music. Ready, all right,
- 59:09Speaker 1: go five, six, seven, eight. I'm savash Cassie Bratcher, sassy,
- 59:18Speaker 1: nasty hacking, I'm savash thunderous of clause? Are you kidding me?
- 59:32Speaker 1: All right? Okay, so now I got Look, I'm gonna
- 59:36Speaker 1: show you who's all in here. Now. I got the
- 59:37Speaker 1: whole family in here, just to see everybody's here. I'm
- 59:45Speaker 1: bob okay, okay, all right, all right, get him out,
- 59:50Speaker 1: pull him out. Back to the bouncy you guys wet
- 59:57Speaker 1: this whole room up. Humh. Back to the bouncy castle.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: They're they're, they're I don't I don't know this song,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: but it doesn't seem that it's necessarily appropriate for a
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: five year old to sing the lyrics twenty one year
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: old who's who's watching TikTok like twenty four to seven?
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: And so because of that, can you talk me through
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: the lyrics of this this song? It's it's uh Mega Stallion, right,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: and she now has a remix with her and Beyonce
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Oka Beyonce as how would say Rest in Peace My father?
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: And uh the chorus is I'm a savage? Uh uh,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: what is it? I'm a savage classy boogie ratchet? Uh? Now,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: what does ratchet mean? Ratchet is like when you're like,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: that's ratchet, yo, You're ratchet? Isn't necessary? Is typing out
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the lyrics for you? Donald sat moody, nasty, acting stupid?
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: What's happening? What's happening? I don't know how I feel
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: about my little god dollars saying sassy, maddy, nasty, moody,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: moody moody. Oh sorry, well it's Joelle's TYPEO, not mine.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I thought maddy was a new word. No moody, sassy, moody, ratchet,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: no acting stupid was happening? Savage passie boogie. BJ's like,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: what did I get into? This is what it is?
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Like we forgot about question. This is exactly what I'm
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: going through right now. Like, so, we had this song
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: lild Life. Uh Olivia, she's five, he's really inso it
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: and you know, the lyrics are probably not terribly appropriate
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: for a five year old, so we had to like
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: a mending say, know though the song is called low light.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: So I know this whole thing very well. Like BJ, A,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: you have any questions, Yeah, So I don't know way
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: to start because just to get people contact guy, it's
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: it's I've got the fan going soefully you guys can't
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: hear it too much. I can't feel the fan, PJ.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Can you turn it a little to so it just
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: just for context. So going through, Uh so I used
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: to be married and going through. We got married just
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: as the recession started, so we didn't have a lot
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: of stuff but we did have Scrubs dvdews, so that
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: was pretty much we would watch did you give him
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: or her? When in the breakup? Did you give him
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: or her? Season nine? Uh? I actually liked season nine.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: I know that Donald has two do you do Okay?
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I can't say my needs his attention? I think you
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: do it all the time. Okay, great. So I know
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: this has been said elsewhere by other people, like had
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: it had a different title, um, it would have been successful.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: But I think because it was still called Scrubs, called
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: the Shipman, called Dave Franco, Yeah, it was a little
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: too much Dave Ranco, Donald Phazon as squeech right, But
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I get it's very solid it. You know, the shows
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: up really well. The season nine holds up. I feel
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: pretty well. Did There is probably a little too much
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: day Franco for me. He was like, to me, it's
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: a more like annoying character, right right, But so to me, like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the big question I feel like is how do you
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: think to show has held up? Because today the episode
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: that we were going to talk about, there's a whole
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: scene funce with doctor Cox and the and the doctor,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: the young doctor, and I feel like today I don't
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: know if you'd be able to do that story well beyea.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: You know, there are a lot of things that don't
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: necessarily uh hold up with what's going on today with
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: the show. You know, Cox calling j D a girl's
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: name all the time might be you know, offensive to
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: some Yeah, you could catch offense to that. Zach and
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: I had a conversation about that. We were like, you
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: know what, we know where the show has its moments
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: where we're like, oh boy, but maybe you know, if
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: we're if everybody's true fans the show and was watching
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: it back then and doesn't have a problem didn't have
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: a problem with it back then, I don't necessarily think
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: it behooves us to continue to talk about what you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: the past. You know, it was made at a certain time,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I don't know how to
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I don't know. But to your point, I don't know
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: that Again, who knows that someone might find offense to
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: doctor Cox flirting with a co worker. I don't know.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I think it was done in a pretty h clearly
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: consensual way. She was flirting right back with him, and
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: well and says Turke even says, you know this is
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: highly inappropriate and you shouldn't be doing this. And you
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: know better than this, doctor Cox, and it's and and
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: to the and to his intern And if you're supposed
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: to say anything to you're supposed to be uh worshiping
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: me and you know the knowledge I have and not
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: shape being love struck with this, you know, senior resident
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: in the house. But for what it's worth, he then
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: doesn't have courage or whatever. And he's still obsessed with Judy,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: I guess. And he walks off, and that's she that
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: shows up at his door. Remember that. No, yeah, I
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: think he told I think BJ totally gets it. But yeah,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I'm saying it to you. She's the she becomes the aggressor.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: And then he gets up and says something no man
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: would ever say to a woman. He says, uh, I'm
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: using you to get past another person. That was fucking
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: nuts that any human being would say that to someone.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: But then she's like, I don't care, let's hook up.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: That's not why I'm here, right. Yeah. My whole deal is,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: you know, you have to look at things with the
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: time that they were producer, and that doesn't excuse like
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: like it really agreed to stuff. We had a title
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: come out cereal Box is recently called Knox, which deals
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: with all the HP Lovecraft, you know, like the dark
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: and mysterious tentacles and enemies from other dimensions. And so
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: the way I describe it to people, as you know,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: it's HP Lovecraft about the anti Semitism, like it's taking,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: it's taking like the best parts of it. And so
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: you know, if you look at his stuff in that context,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: you can't excuse like the bladed bigotry. That's, well, you're
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: you're you said you're an LGBTQ, yes, activist. So there's
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: plenty of stuff that I imagine some would find defensive.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: In nine years of this show, the calling of JD
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: this sort of um, it was considered derogatory to be
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: called a girl's name. I mean, how does how does
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: something like that? I thought that held up to me.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: I thought that, hell, because it's within the character that
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: it works. That makes sense that he It's just the
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: character is dead set. I'm belittle and j D in
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: any way that he can. And you know that, and
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: in his mind and coxed his mind, I was belittling exactly,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: and wasn't It didn't come off as like malicious in
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: that he meant it as a anti case slur, like
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: he just meant it as this I'm just gonna chip
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: you down. I'm just gonna keep chipping away into So
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I think it really comes from the character. And as
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: long as the character isn't like a blatantly racist or something,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: which is the case thought the Coxes, And uh, it's fine.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I know that I know that there's there's certainly people
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: that would be offended by it, and I understand that.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: But to me, if as long as it fits within
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: the nature of the character, you think, it's okay, all right,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: all right? Do you have another question for the legendary
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Donald Phazon or Zach Braff Sassy Boogie Ratchett. What's happening, Madi?
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: You sound like you sound like Rocco. So Rocco doesn't
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: like the song at all because he doesn't like the
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: dance or anything like that. Right, so he'll be like,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'm a savage ratchet acid Dukie rockets at a stage
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: where if you just want to savage out of something,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: say poopy or coca right, anything anything. He sometimes looked, Man,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: you've you've heard my son. I've taught him some words
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: that I'm I should never have taught. Man, it's like
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: a parrot. You never want to teach a parrot. Curse
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: for I taught him some words, and now I'm like,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I should have never done it, And when he goes
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: back to school, I'm so worried. Yeah, well, for now
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: it's your problem, yes, J go ahead. Yeah, So you
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: mentioned in the divorce that did they get season nine?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I was actually gonna give them season seven for the
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: writer's strike, and I was just always fascinated by the
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: whole thing with you guys having to stop mid season
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: and just trying to adjust that. I don't remember. Maybe
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: you guys can provide the context of that. So the
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: season shut down and then you had to go back
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: and finish the episodes. Was that sort of the deal
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: on that? I don't really remember. I know that I
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: know that Hollywood was shut down for the writer's strike
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: and we didn't work. Then we went back. Why are
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: you are you saying that you you can notice the
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: difference in the in the quality because of that crazy time. Yeah.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I think that if those episodes were done in any
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: other context, they would have been great. But there's something
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: that feels off to them as you're watching them that
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: could just be going in with the context of, oh,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: this was done when the writers weren't there, or this
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: was sort of just done under nothing would be done
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: without the writers being there. You know, this is a
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: this is a really good bill. Oh great, we can
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: do our Ask Bill, this is a really good bill. Question. So, BJ,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: why don't you direct it directly to Bill Lawrence, the
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: show's creator. You ask him? It's a good question. Yeah,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: So Bill, season seven, if you had to do over,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: would you feel that it would come out differently? And
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: then the way it did being produced in the writer strike.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I think that's a good play. That that is good.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: And then Bill will will Bill answer it? Now? Knowing Bill,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: knowing Bill, he'll answer the start with a joke. Let's all,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: let's all see if he does this all open with
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: a joke. Then he'll give a very heartfelt, serious answer,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: and then he'll end by yelling five six seventy eight.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: We'll see, we'll see see. I hope I'll live up
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to that. Do I think season seven would have been
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: different without the right Yeah, because you got to remember,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: not only did the strike muck everything up um so
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: much so NBC even rejiggered the order of the episodes.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I think they aired that Princess Bride homage like it
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: was this show's finale, just in case it was the
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: show's finale when it wasn't supposed to. I mean, we
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: were heading the finale was always going to be that
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: end of season eight episode that was already written in
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: my head, and we just never got to do it
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: that year. It was such a drag. Also, you got
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: to remember, man, during that whole lead up to the strike,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: it was such a weird writer's room because we're all
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: hustling and worried about losing our jobs and worried about
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: not working and all that stuff. So it was definitely
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: screwed up on one of them on record that I
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: didn't do the number que for the song because it'll
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: get stale if I do it too often. But I'm
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: coming back with a vengeance. See. I remember when the
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: writers strike happened, and I remember the one thing that
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I remembered the most about the writers strike was thinking,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: holy cow, we're not going to work for a while,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: and does this mean this is the end of the show,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: because you know, at this point, you know, studios were
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: studios weren't necessarily behind writers striking and everything like that.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: And I worried at that point, does this mean that
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Scrubs isn't coming back? Are you know? And I remember
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: I remember marching with Bill all the way to Universal Studios.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Now we all went and marched on the line with everybody,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: and and thinking is this something that the studio is
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: going to look back at and be like, well, We're
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: not going to bring back Scrubs because they were a
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: part of the writers strike. We're not going to bring
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: back Brooklyn ninety nine because they were a part of
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: the you know what I mean. Like now, by the way,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: you know, shows are dropping because of this because of COVID,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: and and Broadway shows are closing because of COVID because
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: they because they know they can't. Frozen is done because
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: of COVID, Yeah, and others and shows are getting canceled.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Emergence a amazing show, Emergence starring Well, I don't know
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: if Emergence got canceled because of COVID or if Emergence
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: got you know, ABC doesn't have to give a reason
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: for why they canceled the show. Have you watched Emergence?
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: I have, Uh I didn't. It didn't take for me.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: Ah Bj, You're done. No, I'm just joking. I'm just
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: don't hate on Jing. It didn't take for me. I
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: wrote the cast, great, great actors. Yeah, I find I
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: find a lot of TV shows that come out of
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: the broadcast that works that usually the cast is great,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: but for whatever reason, there's just something that doesn't click
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: for me the way down. Well, I think what happens
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: is that just sort of stereotypically there there's a lot
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: of chefs in the kitchen on broadcast and now more
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: and more, um the the showrunner and directors are given
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: long leashes in on streaming platforms, and there's a voice
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: to be had. They want a voice, was the voice
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: behind the show. That's what they're interested in, especially all
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: these sort of comedies we all love on on on
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: things like you know, perfect example is is Atlanta? For me,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: it's like so clearly someone's taste and voice and uh
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: and that's hard to find on broadcast talents of course,
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: because there's nine thousand people weighing in. It just becomes
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: a fucking muddy stew So I feel that way about
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Dave on FXX. Like it or you don't like it?
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I love it? Oh good good? I get a whole
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: ad for Dave on here. It's so good, Davis. I
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: can't get Donald, who would love it more than any
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: of us, to watch it, because he's too busy fucking
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: doing whatever he's doing raising kids. Yo. No, I'm raising kids.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: They're going to sleep at what time? Seven thirty? And
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: then I want to go to bed, buddy? What time
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: you get to bed? What time it's lights out? Eight thirty? No? Yeah, man,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you turn out your lights at eight thirty, eight thirty,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: nine o'clock. I'm most likely on my way upstairs to
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: go to sleep. Wow, it's crazy, dude. Listen man. As
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: much as as much as I'm a as, I'll tell
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: you right now. I love my children. I love everything
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: about being a dad and and all of that stuff.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: But I said it before. I miss waking up at
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: noon and not having anything to do other than hang
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: out with my wife. You know what I mean. I
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: missed that shit. Um Every every week Donald makes um
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: having children seem less and less appealing. Now now I
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: don't want to go back to that. I don't want
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I don't want to. You know, the grass is always greener.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I would prefer to wake my son walking in my
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: room at five thirty in the morning every day saying
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: can I have cinnamon toast crunch. I prefer that over
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: being at Orlando Jones's pool till right exactly till four
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: o'clock in the morning. But you know it's it's I
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: do miss that moment in time where it was just
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: I didn't have to worry about a lot of things,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And I worry about everything now. Well,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: you're in a new chapter of your lifetib this is
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: this is forty six. Yeah, you know, and when I
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: was a young dad, it seemed a lot easier. It
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: seems way more difficult now. Man, I don't know bj
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: you have kids, right, No, I'm child free us he
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: was talking about it. Yea. I love kids. I love
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: my niece is Zepi's more than anything in the world.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: I think kids are just the best look for me.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I decided to deal. I want to be environmentally friendly,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: and I know it's cookies. It sounds um So I
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: took that, took that like reduce your carbon footprint thing
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: really seriously and just decided, you had kids, I don't
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: know what kind of world they would get into, So
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I decided not to do it. It's a little too
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: deep and serious. Yeah, go out with one happy question
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: because we're going along wrap it up. Yes, you've been
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: a great guest. I gotta say Donald hasn't been a
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: great guest. BJ. I'm gonna be honest with you. So far,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: favorite call in every Yeah, I think I'm gonna I'm
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: gonna think for a second. Yeah, I think BJ's definitely
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: top two or three. Two, I'm gonna give the number one. Well,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: you know what, No, before you give it to him,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Before you give it to him, Let's see what the
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: final question is. Yes, No, thank you guys, because I,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: like I said, I spent uh craps on the time
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: with the X watching you. So it was cool just
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: being able to experience a few mens hanging out. My
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: last question for you is the world where even like
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: the most Mike Chris Coppic show gonna remember gets the movie.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: You've probably gotten this a lot, but do you envision
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: a scenario where there might be more scrubs? And I
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: know that it's such a fanily question to ask, but
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: I had to ask it. No, it's a great question.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I think there's a world. It was we did the
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: view today and whoopee Goldberg said, you know Oscar nomine
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: whoope Goldberg? Well e got oh he got winner, he
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: got winner. Whoopee Goldar. Sorry, I'm sorry she has the
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: four of them together. I didn't know she was an egot. Yeah,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: she she she that's the reason she's got the Tony,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: the Emmy, the Graham and the Oscar. What does she
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: have an oscar for? Oh? Ghosts ghost Oh wow, don't
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: get us going on Color Purple. We did a whole
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: we did a whole episode. Listen, we love us. Yeah,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: don't get don't don't, don't, don't get good Donald doing
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Oprah's monologue again. Because she was Gideon for me, You're like,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: I grew up with her next generation. Yes, she was
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: great on that too. Did you ever see her one
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: woman Broadway show that you can see? That's what she
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: won the Tony four. I think it was nineteen eighty five. Um,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: it was Whoopie Goldberg's one woman Broadway show. And she
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: does all these characters, and I'm telling you find it.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: It is a fucking masterpiece. It's one of the she is.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: She is by far like she is, she's better. I'm
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: not me. I don't mean to Disk the View because
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: the View is the View and it's like the most
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: popular daytime show. But I wish that Whoopee was still
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: acting because she's so incredibly talented. She's one of the
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: She's one in my opinion, she's one of the best ever. Anyway,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: you made me want to go back and watch Star
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Trek the Next Generation now because I used to watch
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: that show. Great. Watch Donald I did Great. Remember the
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: episode where Pricard is being tortured and he's like, there
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: for lights? Yeah, by the board? Is he being by
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: the board? Yeah? Um. Anyway, she was like, Whoopee was like, look,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan. I was a huge fan of
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: the show. I think y'all should make a Scrubs movie. Yeah.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: We talk about that, you know, because I point to
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: psych who's now made two successful films, and um, it
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: would be fun. I think it'd be fun for us
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: to do all do something like that. We just have
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: to get Disney to be into it and Bill Lawrence
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: to be into it, and I think it'll happen. They're
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: the fans. The fans seem to really want it to happen.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: The fans wanted a rewatch show, and they got that
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: so yes, we're giving the people what they want. BJ,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: You've been an outstanding guest. You're Donald's favorite guest of
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: all time, favorite calling calling guests, favorite calling favorite Collin, BJ.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: We got to qualify it, and no doubt, Uh no,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: I think you asked smart questions. You seem like a
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: very intelligent man. You gave thoughtful discourse. What else Donald
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: and he knew about Star Wars? Yeah, you know about
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Star Wars. That's why Donald likes you. And you had
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Well waving her hands like she was saying preach in
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: the background. Thanks for coming on, man, have a great day,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: stay safe, and Donald, I think I successfully cheered you up.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: You started a little bit sour today, but I think
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: that we really brought you around. You know, I'm going
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: to tell you something, go ahead. It was a great
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: distraction to day. Man. It was a great distraction to
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: sit here and talk with you today. I needed it. Well,
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: that's why we're here for the people. Donald. We we
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: didn't think that this would be a quarantine show, but
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: since it is, we hope that we're helping you stop
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: thinking about nonsense in your life for an hour and
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: a half or so. Yeah, but just on a personal
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: level today. I was very, very very you know, and
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back into it after we after we
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: wrapped the episode. But I was very very I don't know,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: I was I wasn't having a great day and melancholic. Yes,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I was very melancholic. I the melancholy was if I
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: could play a song, it would be a Josh Raiden song.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Right now, I hear you. Well, listen, now you're gonna
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: now that the episode is over and you've had so
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: much fun, You're I'm gonna go out and play with
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: the kids. He's gonna play with the kids on the water,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: the water bouncy house. Yeah. And then when you're gonna say,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: and your daughter's gonna do Sassy Maddy Nasty, She's gonna
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: sing a little Meg the Stallion and I'm gonna sing
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: this is how we do it. This has been a
