- 0:09SPEAKER_01: We are here at the Coachella Showcase 2026.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: We are here with the NFL Hall of Famer, a living legend, and new head coach of the Southern University, Mr.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Marshall Falk, thanks for coming and talking to us.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me, man.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Good to be out here in the Valley.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: It's good to see these kids out here competing.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: So what brings you out to the Coachella Valley in um in May?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Well, obviously, Chris Johnson and I, we play college ball together, and um I've watched Chris do all the stuff that he's done at the different places that he's been.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And since he's been out here in the valley, he had this dream of like showcasing all the talent out here in the Coachella Valley.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And he gets a chance to do that by inviting myself and about 30 other coaches to come out here and lend our name, image, and likeness so these kids can have an opportunity to get coached right, to learn football, um, and to understand the disciplines of football and how those things transition to the disciplines in life as well.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Awesome, awesome.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: This isn't your first showcase.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: What's your favorite thing about uh the showcase?
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Just teaching the kids, man.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Uh you you get the kid that's just raw, new to the game, that don't even understand anything, but the excitement of football, uh they love it, they want to be around it, making it a special memory for them the same way it was for me when I was first introduced to the game.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, I love it.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: You've been here a couple days, Coach.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: What's your uh what's your coaching evaluation of the talent we have out here in the country?
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's pretty good.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: It's pretty good.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And you know, you always have skill positions everywhere, but it's it's it's the big guys, the bigs and and the development, the development of them and how how they make uh most camps like this, um big guys, there's there's not much that they can do.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: They make it fun for not just the skill guys, but for the bigs as well.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: I'm looking forward to uh to seeing the GOAT challenge.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Um it's always intense.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: We always highlight the guys who get to touch the ball.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And we usually don't highlight the guys who don't touch the ball.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: But they're the most big balls.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But they're responsible for the ball for things getting done.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So I can't wait to see that today as well.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: I am too.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: That's dope.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Um, so your your your resume speaks for itself.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: You know, you you had a you're one of the best TV analysts, in my opinion, of the NFL.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: And you you came back to coach.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Why, why, why coaching?
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Why'd you come back to this profession?
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: It's not always the easiest profession.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Why'd you choose to come off the sidelines and take it?
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, the the path that's chosen isn't always the easiest path.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, but but in this case, it's not about me, it's about the kids.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: You know, you get to a point in time in life, I spent time raising my own kids, my youngest, she's getting ready to go to LSU.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Um, for me, I wanted to do something and have an impact.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that and that, if I go to a power four or power five school, how much impact do I have?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: You know, I could have I'm pretty decent, but going to an FCS school, definitely an HBCU.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Um I'm pouring in the kids that come from the same em environment, the same communities that I grew up in.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And I'm letting them know that it's possible to get to where you want to get to.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And and I'm standing before them, sharing this information with them.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Um that's what it's about for me.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I had other options to coach at other other universities, but um this one spoke to me.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Uh I used to go to camp at Southern.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Um I'm from New Orleans.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: It's 45 minutes from you know from where I grew up.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: So my impact on the state, teaching kids, showing kids um how to become what they want and how to use football as a as a platform to get to where you want to in life.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: That's awesome, man.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Well, coach, we're gonna be rooting for you.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: We're gonna be looking forward to seeing you on the sidelines this fall.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna be rooting for you.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: We appreciate you joining us.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Thank you, man.
