Think of a nice French bistro. Luna: Ooh, I'm hungry already. So, what's the first thing I say? Lucas: You could start with: Je voudrais manger. That means 'I'd like to eat.' Let's break it down. Luna: Je voudrais manger. Lucas: Good. Je voudrais is 'I would like.' Manger is 'to eat.' So, Je voudrais manger. Luna: Je voudrais manger. Simple enough. Then I'd order something specific? Lucas: Exactly. Let's say you want a steak: Je voudrais un steak. Luna: Je voudrais un steak. Easy. Lucas: Now, the waiter might ask: Comment voulez-vous votre steak? — 'How would you like your steak?' Luna: Comment voulez-vous votre steak? That's a bit longer. Lucas: Take it slow: comment voulez-vous votre steak. Luna: Comment voulez-vous votre steak. Got it. So how do I say I want it rare? Lucas: You'd say: Je le voudrais saignant. Saignant means 'rare.'
