- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, Courtney.
- 0:01Speaker 2: What's up? You're on the air. Hi, John Jay. I
- 0:04Speaker 2: don't know if you remember me. I called in a
- 0:06Speaker 2: few months ago, but I'm living in Brussels right now,
- 0:10Speaker 2: so it's like nighttime for me. But I have a
- 0:13Speaker 2: question that I wanted to ask for the audience and
- 0:16Speaker 2: just like a general question just because my husband got
- 0:21Speaker 2: upset about something recently and I wanted an opinion, mostly
- 0:25Speaker 2: from Kyle and Peyton.
- 0:26Speaker 1: They're right here.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Okay. Okay, perfect. So, I don't have many friends here.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm obviously from the States. My friend connected me with
- 0:36Speaker 2: this girl here. We hit it off right away last weekend.
- 0:41Speaker 2: We hung out.
- 0:42Speaker 3: She....
- 0:44Speaker 2: That's about an hour train right away. So, we hung
- 0:47Speaker 2: out for... like the whole night and it was kind
- 0:51Speaker 2: of too late for her to go home. So I said, yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 2: stay the night with me because she was super cool.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And my husband's a pilot, so he's gone a lot.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So he was not here and she stayed the night.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I didn't, I don't have another place for her to sleep.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Like other than like in the bed next to me,
- 1:07Speaker 2: we had girl talk. We were gossiping, giggling. It felt
- 1:10Speaker 2: like so natural. It was completely platonic kind of thing. Um,
- 1:16Speaker 2: And my husband got super upset. And he said, she
- 1:19Speaker 2: should have slept on the couch, blah, blah, blah. Like,
- 1:24Speaker 2: that's not okay with me that her sleeping in the
- 1:27Speaker 2: bed with you. And one thing he said, you're a
- 1:30Speaker 2: 40 year old woman, and you should not be having
- 1:33Speaker 2: sleepovers like this. And I got super offended. And I said, Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Well, first of all, this girl is Way cool. It's
- 1:44Speaker 2: hard to make girlfriends at my age. And we hit
- 1:47Speaker 2: it off, and I don't think I should be in
- 1:48Speaker 2: trouble for this. And then he went on to say that, like,
- 1:52Speaker 2: he was just mad that he doesn't know this girl,
- 1:54Speaker 2: and she slept in his bed. And then I said, okay, okay,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I understand that part of it. But she's super cool.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But to bring my age into it, I think any woman, like,
- 2:04Speaker 2: you have a sleepover with your girl, like, it's fun. It's,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I don't know, I just want Kyle and Peyton's. opinion
- 2:12Speaker 2: on this.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I think I'll have sleepovers when I'm 85 I think
- 2:17Speaker 3: there's really there's really something special about women friendships and
- 2:23Speaker 3: I think like guys don't the guys don't really work
- 2:25Speaker 3: the same way like I know my husband he like
- 2:27Speaker 3: could have no friends forever and he doesn't care like
- 2:30Speaker 3: it's not but I feel like women we need girlfriends
- 2:33Speaker 3: like it actually helps give us life and So it's
- 2:36Speaker 3: something maybe he doesn't understand, but I think you're totally
- 2:38Speaker 3: in the right. And if it makes him feel better, like,
- 2:41Speaker 3: do you want to meet her? Do you want to
- 2:43Speaker 3: interview her? Like nothing weird was going on. If it
- 2:46Speaker 3: makes him feel better, you like introduce them, I guess.
- 2:48Speaker 3: But I say you can have sleepovers whenever you want.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And as girls, like we have this girl bond and
- 2:55Speaker 2: we gossip and we giggle. And my daughter, my daughter's 19.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And she, even the next morning, she's like, I'm so
- 3:01Speaker 2: happy for you, mom. You finally made a girlfriend.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I know, right?
- 3:05Speaker 2: We were gossiping. We were giggling in the morning. We
- 3:08Speaker 2: woke up and we're just chatting and like talking about
- 3:10Speaker 2: each other's like boyfriend. Like, well, my husband and her
- 3:14Speaker 2: boyfriend and like just laughing and like giggling. And it
- 3:17Speaker 2: was so fun. And my husband was just.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Like, I don't know.
- 3:20Speaker 2: He said, that's not appropriate. And I said, yes.
- 3:23Speaker 4: It is.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You just don't understand girl friendships. He also doesn't have
- 3:27Speaker 2: a sister. He never grew up with girls. He only
- 3:30Speaker 2: has a brother. He doesn't understand the girl thing.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Yeah, he doesn't understand girlhood.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And I think it's totally okay.
- 3:35Speaker 4: My mom, literally, I was on the phone with her
- 3:37Speaker 4: last night. I was like, where are you at? Why
- 3:38Speaker 4: are you not at home?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Oh, I'm having a sleepover with Kathleen. We're at a
- 3:42Speaker 2: nice little spa and we're just having a girl's night. Literally,
- 3:44Speaker 2: my mom.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He's older than you. I'm going to give you a
- 3:48Speaker 1: different perspective, but I also want you to, there's something
- 3:50Speaker 1: I think you can show your husband. If you watch
- 3:53Speaker 1: the most recent season of Ted Lasso, there's a lot
- 3:56Speaker 1: of that in Ted Lasso with Rebecca and Keely. They're like,
- 4:00Speaker 1: they're both friends and there's a couple times where they
- 4:02Speaker 1: have a sleepover and they're literally watching TV and she's
- 4:04Speaker 1: resting on her stomach and one of her friends is
- 4:06Speaker 1: watching TV. So that can explain the girlhood. But let
- 4:10Speaker 1: me give you another perspective.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Oh, I just started Ted Lasso. I'm only on season two. Okay,
- 4:17Speaker 2: so don't run it first. No, no, no.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Listen, listen, listen. Keep watching it because you're going to
- 4:23Speaker 1: see their friendship blossom. You said something your husband said,
- 4:26Speaker 1: which makes me look into his perspective, is that a
- 4:29Speaker 1: stranger spent the night at his house. That's where he's like, hey, man,
- 4:33Speaker 1: there's somebody that we don't know that spent the night
- 4:36Speaker 1: in our house and stayed in my room, in my bed.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'm worried for my daughter. I'm worried for you. I mean,
- 4:41Speaker 1: there's safety. So he could have that. I'm the protector
- 4:45Speaker 1: of my house and you let a stranger. stay there,
- 4:47Speaker 1: especially after watching Furious.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I would argue a trust factor, though, like, you
- 4:52Speaker 4: think I'm going to spend time with somebody or allow
- 4:55Speaker 4: someone to stay in my home?
- 4:57Speaker 1: When I was a kid growing up, we weren't allowed
- 4:59Speaker 1: to let our friends come in our parents' bedroom. So
- 5:01Speaker 1: it's kind of like, I'm just asking you to look
- 5:05Speaker 1: at it through his perspective.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I like that perspective, and that makes me respect it more,
- 5:08Speaker 3: but also, like, Stop being such a buzzkill.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Like girly time.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I know, but I think more so, he's more of
- 5:16Speaker 2: a germaphobe. So I think it wasn't about the protecting.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's like, he's like, ooh, is she staying on my cushion?
- 5:20Speaker 2: I don't know her.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Does she use my toothbrush?
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'm going to wash everything. I wash all the linens. Like, whatever.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Don't worry. He's like, thank you. And I said, I apologize.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm sorry. You're right. Like, I wouldn't want someone,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I don't know, sleeping on my pillow.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I bet you he wouldn't have a problem if the
- 5:39Speaker 4: sleepover was at her place. Like, hey, I'm going to
- 5:41Speaker 4: be over at the new friend's house over the weekend.
- 5:44Speaker 4: He'd probably be like, okay, cool. I'll see you when
- 5:45Speaker 4: you get home. But because there's a stranger on his pillow.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Nope, I think he would. You do?
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's what I'm telling you.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Keep watching. There's a little bit of... There's a little
- 5:53Speaker 2: bit of attract. He thinks there's a little bit of something.
- 5:56Speaker 2: He's a little jealous too, along with that. And I'm like,
- 6:00Speaker 2: we can have friendships and we're close. It's a girl thing. Okay.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So I agree with everything you're saying, but I just
- 6:05Speaker 1: want you to think about this for a second. Again,
- 6:07Speaker 1: my point of view about from the protective husband, the
- 6:09Speaker 1: point of view and dad, there's that, but then also
- 6:11Speaker 1: continue watching Ted Lasso because the friendship is, even for
- 6:14Speaker 1: me I grew up with a sister my mom and
- 6:16Speaker 1: my mom I'm a Mexican Mexican people spend the night
- 6:18Speaker 1: at my house all the time everybody's in beds everything
- 6:20Speaker 1: but when you see the friendship of Keely and Rebecca
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's exactly what you described and it's I remember I
- 6:25Speaker 1: was watching it a couple nights ago I was like
- 6:26Speaker 1: man that is really how girls do it if guys
- 6:29Speaker 1: did it that'd be so weird not that guys shouldn't
- 6:32Speaker 1: do it but it'd be weird if I've known Rich
- 6:34Speaker 1: for 25 years I don't think I'll sleep in the
- 6:35Speaker 1: same bed with him rest my head on his chest
- 6:37Speaker 1: and watch TV we.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Could try it we've shared rooms before that was a
- 6:41Speaker 4: disaster John Jay would booby trap the room because he
- 6:44Speaker 4: was afraid somebody was going to come in and murder him.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:46Speaker 4: And I don't want to go to bed at 8.30 p.m.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Courtney, I'm glad you called. We're going to get tons
- 6:51Speaker 1: of calls on this.
- 6:52Speaker 4: All right?
- 6:53Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. And, too, his friend is visiting from
- 6:58Speaker 2: Doha right now, but he's not arriving until midnight tonight.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And I joked. I said, we should switch places, and
- 7:03Speaker 2: you should go lay in the bed and cover yourself
- 7:06Speaker 2: up and pretend to be me. So when he arrives,
- 7:08Speaker 2: you're like, hello.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Well, that's something totally different.
- 7:12Speaker 4: He's pretending to be you.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That might not go the.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Way you think it's going to go.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Courtney, I know you're in another country.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I want you to listen to everyone's response on the
- 7:24Speaker 1: podcast or later, okay? I can't wait. Thanks, Courtney.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Bye, guys. Bye.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Your thoughts, 877-937-1047.
