- 0:38Speaker 3: It is a Friday before a big divisional matchup Sunday
- 0:42Speaker 3: against the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Max. How you doing today, my friend?
- 0:47Speaker 4: I'm doing all right, Bud. I cannot complain, uh at all.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Feeling better today?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Good?
- 0:53Speaker 4: And I was yesterday yesterday I was.
- 0:55Speaker 5: I was down bad and I'm glad you you manned
- 0:58Speaker 5: the ship and uh.
- 0:59Speaker 4: And was a to get through it without me. I
- 1:02Speaker 4: was trying my best, but my voice was gone and
- 1:05Speaker 4: my head was throving.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:09Speaker 3: We were glad to you know, we open up the
- 1:11Speaker 3: phone lines and we're gonna have a confact on how
- 1:14Speaker 3: often we want to do that. And because we had
- 1:18Speaker 3: some good callers and it's fun to have them be
- 1:20Speaker 3: part of the show. Part of the show today is
- 1:23Speaker 3: Dan Horde, the outstanding play by play man for the
- 1:26Speaker 3: Cincinnati Bengals, is going to be joining us in just
- 1:30Speaker 3: about fourteen minutes or so. We also have it Couldonish,
- 1:35Speaker 3: who is the you know, perhaps the most respected NFL
- 1:39Speaker 3: voice in all of Germany. He is here, the students
- 1:43Speaker 3: have done some things in Germany, and he's gonna join
- 1:46Speaker 3: us and just about ten minutes or so give us
- 1:48Speaker 3: his insight on what the NFL looks like in Germany
- 1:53Speaker 3: these days. And Missy Matthews, the third but certainly not
- 1:57Speaker 3: the third, the first member of our broadcast team.
- 2:00Speaker 2: How about that?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Max?
- 2:00Speaker 3: How bet if I put it that way, the first
- 2:02Speaker 3: member of our on air broadcast team for Stuthers broadcast.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Miss You'll be joining us at eleven o'clock. First questions, Max.
- 2:10Speaker 3: You know, we talked about this a little bit a
- 2:13Speaker 3: couple of days ago, whether we were going to be
- 2:15Speaker 3: glued to the game last night, just kind of checking
- 2:18Speaker 3: out the game last night. Where did you Where did
- 2:21Speaker 3: you sit with the game last night? Did you did
- 2:23Speaker 3: you watch it? Or I felt like after halftime and
- 2:27Speaker 3: then early on in the third quarter that the Jets
- 2:30Speaker 3: had let whatever opportunity they had to be in the
- 2:32Speaker 3: game slip away and their two game losing streak is
- 2:36Speaker 3: over and the Patriots are nine and two.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Yeah. No, I mean I was watching a little bit
- 2:42Speaker 4: of it. I had, I had, I had. I had
- 2:45Speaker 4: daughter duty last night. Nice.
- 2:48Speaker 5: So I was at the ASU University of Arizona volleyball
- 2:51Speaker 5: game with my daughter's teams.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Their their volleyball team.
- 2:56Speaker 5: So I was watching on a second screen on my phone,
- 2:59Speaker 5: and then after half, I was like, I'm just gonna
- 3:01Speaker 5: watch this game in front of me.
- 3:03Speaker 4: So it ended up being a good match.
- 3:05Speaker 5: The number eight Sun Devils took down their vaunted rival,
- 3:07Speaker 5: the University of Arizona Wildcats and four sets.
- 3:10Speaker 4: So that was where I spent most of it.
- 3:12Speaker 5: I was checking the game, and once I saw that
- 3:15Speaker 5: twenty four to fourteen, it just felt like it was
- 3:17Speaker 5: insurmountable for the Jets.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Yeah, to come back from it.
- 3:21Speaker 5: And it was just like, all right, nothing to see here,
- 3:23Speaker 5: there's no surprises here. Like we've seen the other crazy
- 3:26Speaker 5: things in Bizarre World, this one was a constant. The
- 3:29Speaker 5: Jets are still a bad football team, and the New
- 3:32Speaker 5: Leans Patriots are who we thought they were.
- 3:35Speaker 4: They're they're a good football team.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, they are a good football team. And I think
- 3:41Speaker 3: there's that's about. That's about all I need to say
- 3:43Speaker 3: on that one.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Right, we do. There wasn't anything that we didn't expect.
- 3:47Speaker 4: One last day, Yeah, one last thing.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Did you like the NFL Rivalries jersey that New England wore?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Actually you jo what Max? I did? I did.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I'm not really much of a jerseys Yeah, not much
- 4:00Speaker 3: of this jersey. That jersey kind of guy. Hey, what'd
- 4:03Speaker 3: you think of the jersey's way? I just like the games,
- 4:05Speaker 3: you know what I mean, I don't really care what
- 4:08Speaker 3: they're wearing. But I looked at those and I'm like, huh,
- 4:11Speaker 3: those are so they were kind of like, I don't know,
- 4:14Speaker 3: grayish blue.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Is that how you would describe it?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Like?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they were a favorite.
- 4:19Speaker 5: The stadium had one last night, so I was able
- 4:22Speaker 5: to see it up close.
- 4:23Speaker 4: He had a Drake made jersey on, so I just
- 4:25Speaker 4: I stopped. I was like, hey, man, I was.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I was like, let me just look at this, you know,
- 4:29Speaker 5: because I'm like, this is a pretty cool jersey.
- 4:31Speaker 4: He's like, no, thanks, man. I ordered it because they
- 4:33Speaker 4: were gonna be wearing it tonight, and so I looked
- 4:35Speaker 4: at it.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it has this kind of grayish bluish and it
- 4:39Speaker 5: has like the the two toned or like three dimensional
- 4:43Speaker 5: ne on the sleeve with the stars around and there.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I mean, it was, it was. It was a cool
- 4:49Speaker 4: looking concept. They almost looked throwback yet new.
- 4:53Speaker 5: So I had a bit of like the old mix
- 4:55Speaker 5: with the new like that three like that three D
- 4:57Speaker 5: design on the on the on the shoulder was you know,
- 5:01Speaker 5: it was the new part of it. The rest of
- 5:03Speaker 5: the kind of looked like a throwback style jersey that
- 5:06Speaker 5: we're used to seeing.
- 5:06Speaker 4: So it was. It was a pretty cool jersey.
- 5:09Speaker 6: It was.
- 5:10Speaker 2: It was for sure.
- 5:12Speaker 3: So Max, I think New England, I think we agree
- 5:15Speaker 3: that they're a good football team, you know, so you know,
- 5:19Speaker 3: they they look like a good football team. Even so
- 5:23Speaker 3: a reminder once again of how close games are even
- 5:29Speaker 3: we even win. One team wins, and you know, makes
- 5:33Speaker 3: it look relatively easy. The Jets threw a long ball
- 5:37Speaker 3: up the left sideline down at the time fourteen to seven,
- 5:41Speaker 3: and if they complete that pass, who knows, maybe they
- 5:44Speaker 3: go in. It was deep would have been deep in
- 5:46Speaker 3: Patriots territory. Was a perfectly thrown ball by Justin Fields.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Dropped on the other end. Who knows, Maybe they go in.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I can't remember it was seven to seven or fourteen
- 5:54Speaker 3: seven at the time, but who knows what happens at
- 5:57Speaker 3: that If you go in and you make just that
- 6:01Speaker 3: one play, does it completely change the complexion of the game,
- 6:03Speaker 3: or do you take the leader?
- 6:05Speaker 2: It might have been a to tie it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I can't remember the specifics of it, but you know,
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's a different feeling for a team, especially a team
- 6:11Speaker 3: that's been struggling. But even so, we see three, four
- 6:15Speaker 3: or five plays in every game that seemed to turn it.
- 6:18Speaker 3: It's incredible that so many games come down to that.
- 6:22Speaker 3: We saw that against the Chargers, We certainly saw it
- 6:24Speaker 3: against the Bengals, and it's a Bengals team. We're gonna
- 6:27Speaker 3: be diving into this more with Dan Horde coming up
- 6:29Speaker 3: in a little bit, but it's a Bengals team that probably,
- 6:34Speaker 3: from what I understand, Trey Hendrickson and possibly Shamar Stewart
- 6:37Speaker 3: are both going to be out for this game.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Max.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I mean, we talked about this and
- 6:45Speaker 5: we looked at it Thursday night. They had a lot
- 6:48Speaker 5: of guys out and it did you know, it didn't
- 6:51Speaker 5: really matter that much. I believe Trey Henderson was out
- 6:55Speaker 5: against us in that one. Yeah, but Cam Taylor Britt
- 6:59Speaker 5: also was out. They're also without Logan Wilson this time
- 7:02Speaker 5: around because he was traded to the Cowboys. So I mean,
- 7:06Speaker 5: you're talking about a Bengals defense that's you know, that's
- 7:10Speaker 5: definitely in flux once again.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Can the Steelers take advantage of a known, you.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Know, lesser than an opponent defensively and can you not
- 7:21Speaker 5: play down to your competition, but can you play up
- 7:23Speaker 5: to the standard that you created for yourself. That's going
- 7:26Speaker 5: to be the question, because you know, you want to
- 7:29Speaker 5: get this bad taste out of your mouth of Sunday
- 7:31Speaker 5: night football and going to LA and not coming away
- 7:36Speaker 5: with a victory out of your mouth. And no better
- 7:38Speaker 5: way than do that than in front of the creature
- 7:40Speaker 5: comforts of home and aft for sure, and of course
- 7:43Speaker 5: against a rival that you are ego eager to get
- 7:47Speaker 5: a w in front of and not get the brooms.
- 7:51Speaker 5: You know, that's what we're playing for. We're playing not
- 7:52Speaker 5: to get the broom right now by the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And you know when you take Hendrickson out, who he saw,
- 8:02Speaker 3: you know, completely manhandle the Steelers last year in their
- 8:06Speaker 3: nineteen seventeen victory at Akroscher Stadium the final regular season game,
- 8:11Speaker 3: and Steelers just trying to find a way to have
- 8:14Speaker 3: a good taste in your mouth going into the playoffs.
- 8:16Speaker 3: They couldn't do it. They couldn't pull it out late
- 8:18Speaker 3: when they had an opportunity. Henderson had a huge part
- 8:21Speaker 3: of that. Shamar Stewarts, a guy they like, hasn't been
- 8:24Speaker 3: real productive because he's just had a lot of injuries.
- 8:26Speaker 3: They seem to think that he's going to be a
- 8:28Speaker 3: very good football player, but he's going to be out
- 8:30Speaker 3: of this game. But I think at this stage of
- 8:32Speaker 3: the game, it's hard not to think of the Bengals
- 8:36Speaker 3: as kind of a one trick pony, Like, hey, if
- 8:39Speaker 3: they get the ball last.
- 8:40Speaker 2: They can beat you. You know what I mean.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I mean, they're they're just putting up a ton of
- 8:45Speaker 3: points right now, and I think that's going to be
- 8:47Speaker 3: you know, the Steelers have got I think the big
- 8:50Speaker 3: stories here. They've got to find a way to bounce
- 8:52Speaker 3: back offensively Max from a really subpar performance in LA
- 8:57Speaker 3: and they've got to find a way to slow the
- 8:59Speaker 3: Bengals down and not let him score you know, thirty
- 9:02Speaker 3: eight points, which they've done in their last two games
- 9:04Speaker 3: and lost. I don't want to try that record again.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I don't want to give them thirty eight points and
- 9:08Speaker 3: see if the Steelers can win. So, you know, they
- 9:11Speaker 3: they've there's a couple things, a couple of items on
- 9:13Speaker 3: the to do list here for the Steelers for sure.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it definitely is. And when you think about it,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I mean, you look at their last three games.
- 9:20Speaker 5: They scored thirty three against US thirty nine, they're thirty
- 9:25Speaker 5: eight against the Jets and forty two.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Against the Bears.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Crazy, So it's high power in the last three weeks,
- 9:32Speaker 5: or should I say since Joe Flacco has really earnestly
- 9:35Speaker 5: took the wings of the team, you know, and obviously.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You know he got knocked out and Jake Brown had
- 9:41Speaker 4: to come in. But I mean, this team, like you said,
- 9:44Speaker 4: they can score points, their defense.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Just can't stop guys from scoring points.
- 9:50Speaker 4: And you know, there was a huge feeling.
- 9:53Speaker 5: After that Chicago game, you know, and I think it
- 9:57Speaker 5: was Chase Brown that you know, let out like can
- 9:59Speaker 5: we just we just get a stop?
- 10:01Speaker 4: And he was kind of probably roasting his uh, his defense.
- 10:05Speaker 4: So you know, I would love for.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Him to have another comment about that at the end
- 10:09Speaker 5: of this game. That would be that would be great
- 10:10Speaker 5: to put that, you know, under our belt as well.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that that wasn't too well received.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say to the least, that was not
- 10:20Speaker 4: received very well.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Uh, you understand the frustration, but that's not the way
- 10:26Speaker 3: to handle it.
- 10:28Speaker 4: That is definitely not the way to handle it.
- 10:30Speaker 5: But you know, at the end of the day, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 5: humans are humans, and you got to figure out your
- 10:35Speaker 5: locker room and that's one of the things we talk about,
- 10:37Speaker 5: keeping things within the locker room and not let them
- 10:39Speaker 5: spill out. That was that was a full of paw
- 10:43Speaker 5: on on the young man. That was you know, that
- 10:47Speaker 5: was frustrated, and he's also had his own frustrations as
- 10:50Speaker 5: being the lead back and not having the production that
- 10:53Speaker 5: he would like to have.
- 10:54Speaker 4: So I'm like, you know what, if you're going to
- 10:56Speaker 4: continue to have issues, I welcome it. I receive it fully.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Uh, you know care, Yeah, I think that's just that's
- 11:05Speaker 3: certainly a question we'reen asked Dan Horde. We're gonna ask
- 11:07Speaker 3: him about the injuries against on the defensive line, and
- 11:10Speaker 3: we're also gonna ask him about you know, Joe Burrow
- 11:13Speaker 3: being back, does that give this team kind of a
- 11:15Speaker 3: shot in the arm?
- 11:16Speaker 6: Uh?
- 11:17Speaker 3: Listen, We've said this this week. This team is not
- 11:20Speaker 3: out of it. This team is not out of the
- 11:24Speaker 3: AFC North race. As far as it comes against the Ravens,
- 11:29Speaker 3: they're in they're in command. I mean, if they win
- 11:32Speaker 3: this game, they'll be a game behind the Steelers. We
- 11:33Speaker 3: don't know where they'll be with the Ravens. Their series
- 11:36Speaker 3: season series will be finished with the Steelers, but they'll
- 11:39Speaker 3: also have a commanding division record and they'll only be
- 11:42Speaker 3: a game behind the Steelers, maybe a game behind the
- 11:45Speaker 3: the Ravens as well, who they still have to play.
- 11:47Speaker 3: So this is a very very important game for the Bengals.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Their season is pretty much on the line. And we
- 11:57Speaker 3: said that back on October sixteenth, and the Bengals beat him,
- 12:01Speaker 3: and there's a desperation factor again for the Bengals, who've
- 12:05Speaker 3: got to be kicking themselves. They've got to be kicking
- 12:07Speaker 3: themselves over they what's happened the last couple of weeks
- 12:10Speaker 3: in which they've scored prior to their by eighty points
- 12:14Speaker 3: and did not win either game. So a lot to
- 12:17Speaker 3: talk about with Dan Hord, the outstanding play by play
- 12:20Speaker 3: voice of the Cincinnati Bengals. Who's going to join us
- 12:22Speaker 3: next in the Locker Room presented by your neighborhood Ford
- 12:24Speaker 3: Store and the Students Pro Shop on Steelers Nation Radio,
- 12:27Speaker 3: a part of the Steelers Audio Network.
- 12:35Speaker 1: This is in the Locker Room with King and Starks
- 12:39Speaker 1: on Steelers Nation Radio, presented by your neighborhood Ford Store.
- 12:44Speaker 1: The F one point fifty is the official truck of
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Steelers and by Steelers Pro Shop. Get it
- 12:50Speaker 1: direct from the team at the Steelers Pro Shop at
- 12:52Speaker 1: shop dot Steelers dot com.
- 12:56Speaker 2: And we thank you very much for being with us.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Inside the locker Room with Mac starks on, Rob King,
- 13:01Speaker 3: the three and six Bengals taking on the five and
- 13:04Speaker 3: four Steers and for more on the Cincinnati Bengals. We
- 13:07Speaker 3: are joined by the outstanding play by play voice of
- 13:11Speaker 3: the Cincinnati Bengals, the Dulcet Tones, the melodic, malifluous, wonderful
- 13:18Speaker 3: voice of Dan Horror joining us.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Now, how are you doing, Dan.
- 13:22Speaker 6: Well? After an intro like that, I'm doing great?
- 13:24Speaker 2: How are you guys doing well? Doing fine? Dan?
- 13:29Speaker 3: You know I have to before we start on. You know,
- 13:32Speaker 3: the injuries, and you know what we the desperation level,
- 13:37Speaker 3: and Chase Brown's comments and all this other stuff. I
- 13:40Speaker 3: have to say that I was discussing with you and
- 13:43Speaker 3: your partner before the Thursday night game the decision. Remember,
- 13:47Speaker 3: the team had just chaded for Joe Flacco, and I
- 13:50Speaker 3: remember thinking, boy, if how is the Bengals, I might
- 13:52Speaker 3: have traded for Russell Wilson And you say, hey, Joe
- 13:55Speaker 3: Flacco was their guy all along, And boy, oh boy,
- 13:58Speaker 3: did they make the right decision because that offense is
- 14:02Speaker 3: cooking under Joe Flacco right now.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Yeah, it was a great trade, and all they had
- 14:08Speaker 6: to do is swap picks in the fifth and sixth round,
- 14:11Speaker 6: so the cost was low. But he's been amazing. The
- 14:14Speaker 6: point total has gone up every game from eighteen to
- 14:17Speaker 6: thirty three to thirty eight to forty two. I don't
- 14:21Speaker 6: think that streak will continue on Sunday in Pittsburgh. If
- 14:24Speaker 6: it does, heads will probably roll in the Steel City.
- 14:28Speaker 6: But Flacco has been awesome, and considering the last game,
- 14:32Speaker 6: we didn't even know if he was going to play.
- 14:34Speaker 6: He had a sprained ac join, a right shoulder injury
- 14:37Speaker 6: that he suffered the game before against the Jets, only
- 14:40Speaker 6: practiced one day leading up to the game against the Bears,
- 14:43Speaker 6: went out and threw for four seventy So he has
- 14:46Speaker 6: been amazing. I am pounding the drum to sign him
- 14:50Speaker 6: for next year if he's willing. You know, Joe Burrow
- 14:54Speaker 6: will be back. So he would be in a backup role,
- 14:56Speaker 6: but he's proven to be a tremendous backup. I think
- 14:59Speaker 6: he'll be a good influence on Joe Burrow. I think
- 15:02Speaker 6: he's already been a good influence on Joe just being
- 15:05Speaker 6: a normal person. Joe Burrow's life is so crazy as
- 15:09Speaker 6: one of the biggest sports celebrities in this country that
- 15:12Speaker 6: to have a forty year old father of five around
- 15:15Speaker 6: who's seen it all, been there, done it, won a
- 15:17Speaker 6: Super Bowl. I think that's been very good for Joe
- 15:20Speaker 6: because he's not had a quarterback in the room since
- 15:23Speaker 6: he's been with the Bengals that fits a description like that.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I mean, and that's one of the amazing things when
- 15:32Speaker 5: you just think about like the journey of Joe Flacco,
- 15:35Speaker 5: right yeah, I mean, he's played for He's played for
- 15:38Speaker 5: three out of the four AFC North Division teams, and
- 15:45Speaker 5: like you said, that there's a steadying voice, and you know,
- 15:48Speaker 5: just kind of want to just ask you. You know,
- 15:50Speaker 5: this week Joe Burrow stepped back on the practice field
- 15:53Speaker 5: and started doing some light stuff. I mean, is this
- 15:57Speaker 5: the anticipation that you know, Joe could come step into play?
- 16:03Speaker 5: And I say that, I realize you have to also
- 16:04Speaker 5: say Joe Burrow, not Joe Flacco. Is the tale of
- 16:08Speaker 5: two Joe's in Cincinnati. But you know, for Burrow to
- 16:12Speaker 5: be up to speed, to start, you know, sooner rather
- 16:14Speaker 5: than later, getting back into the starting role and assuming
- 16:19Speaker 5: where he's supposed to be, and for Joe to kind
- 16:21Speaker 5: of take that backseat role once Joe is fully healthy.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Joe Burrow is hell bent on coming back and playing
- 16:30Speaker 6: this year.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Now.
- 16:32Speaker 6: He came back to practice much faster than any of
- 16:36Speaker 6: us anticipated, except for him. I'm sure he thought he
- 16:39Speaker 6: would be back on the timeline on timeline that he
- 16:42Speaker 6: was able to come back in practice. But when he
- 16:44Speaker 6: had surgery to repair the ligaments to connect you know,
- 16:47Speaker 6: his big toe to his foot, the medical timeline was
- 16:51Speaker 6: three months that would get him back with three games
- 16:54Speaker 6: left in the season. He wants to come back for
- 16:58Speaker 6: the Baltimore game on Thanksgiving. I don't know if that's
- 17:01Speaker 6: realistic or not, but that would be three weeks earlier
- 17:05Speaker 6: than the medical timeline. So Joe Burrow's powers of recuperation
- 17:09Speaker 6: are incredible. Orlando Brown Junior compared him to Wolverine this
- 17:13Speaker 6: week for his ability to come back from injuries. So
- 17:17Speaker 6: Joe Burrow's not going to play this week obviously. I
- 17:19Speaker 6: don't think he'll play next week against New England. Could
- 17:21Speaker 6: he be back for the Baltimore game on Thanksgiving Night? Maybe?
- 17:25Speaker 6: But I do expect him to play at some point
- 17:28Speaker 6: this year, regardless of whether the Bengals are in the
- 17:31Speaker 6: hunt or not. He wants to play this year. He
- 17:34Speaker 6: thinks it's important. He says, every game is important, regardless
- 17:38Speaker 6: of whether your team is in the hunt or not.
- 17:40Speaker 6: And my gut tells me that he's probably going to
- 17:43Speaker 6: play at some point this year.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Our guest is Dan Horde, the outstanding play by play
- 17:47Speaker 3: man for the Cincinnati Bengals. Dan Chase Brown, I'm sure
- 17:51Speaker 3: frustrated comments about, you know, the defense not doing its job.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I'm sure that Bengals are kicking themselves right now to
- 18:00Speaker 3: be the only team since the nineteen sixty six New
- 18:03Speaker 3: York Giants to score thirty eight or more points in
- 18:07Speaker 3: back to back games and lose them both. Even one win,
- 18:10Speaker 3: even one win in that group get you to first
- 18:13Speaker 3: place for the victory Sunday at Attersure. I mean, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 3: we saw that last year with the team scoring a
- 18:18Speaker 3: lot of points in not winning. But Brown's comments can
- 18:22Speaker 3: canary to call my tempest? Did a teapot? Let me
- 18:25Speaker 3: get my, let me get my my old metaphors?
- 18:27Speaker 2: Correct? Is it a tempest? Did a teapot?
- 18:30Speaker 3: It did?
- 18:31Speaker 2: Does it?
- 18:31Speaker 3: Did it make some people angry? Is it just something
- 18:34Speaker 3: that was said and it smoothed over and it's it's
- 18:36Speaker 3: not a.
- 18:37Speaker 6: Factor, not a factor. And here's why. So what you
- 18:42Speaker 6: saw on social media was a small clip of an
- 18:46Speaker 6: overall interview, obviously, and basically at various points in the
- 18:52Speaker 6: overall interview, he defended the defense. He said early this
- 18:56Speaker 6: year they were doing the job and we weren't. But
- 19:00Speaker 6: in the course of his you know, of the overall comments,
- 19:03Speaker 6: at one point he says, just get a freaking stop.
- 19:05Speaker 6: Just get a freaking stop. That's what the defensive guys
- 19:08Speaker 6: were saying as well. It's not like what Chase Brown
- 19:11Speaker 6: said wasn't what everybody was thinking. So no, it didn't
- 19:15Speaker 6: create any problems inside of the locker room. We're always
- 19:19Speaker 6: looking for something nationally that drives conversation in sports debate
- 19:23Speaker 6: these days, so I understand why that became such a
- 19:27Speaker 6: lightning rod type of thing nationwide, But internally, honestly, there
- 19:32Speaker 6: was nothing.
- 19:35Speaker 5: And also, you know, Dan as we kind of look
- 19:38Speaker 5: at just where the defense is. I mean, no Trey
- 19:41Speaker 5: Hendrickson again, possibly no Schamar Stewart, Logan.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Wilson traded to Dallas.
- 19:48Speaker 5: I mean, what do you think is the shape of
- 19:50Speaker 5: this defense going into the game on Sunday.
- 19:54Speaker 6: Well, the numbers tell you all you need to know.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Historically bad to this point of the year. They're playing
- 19:59Speaker 6: a bunch of young guys and hoping those young guys
- 20:01Speaker 6: develop and get better over the final eight games of
- 20:04Speaker 6: the season. That's the hope to build something that will
- 20:09Speaker 6: be better next year when Joe Burrow is back, and
- 20:13Speaker 6: hopefully that's the case. But to this point it's been
- 20:17Speaker 6: frighteningly bad. We gave the numbers for the last two weeks,
- 20:21Speaker 6: they've scored eighty points and haven't won a game. If
- 20:24Speaker 6: you look back over the last two years, they've had
- 20:27Speaker 6: six games six games where they scored thirty three or
- 20:31Speaker 6: more points and did not win. That's hard to do.
- 20:36Speaker 6: So they've got one player on defense that's playing really well,
- 20:40Speaker 6: DJ Turner. Before Trey Hendrickson got hurt, he was playing
- 20:44Speaker 6: really well. Nobody else on defense has really played well
- 20:47Speaker 6: this year, and two out of eleven is not going
- 20:50Speaker 6: to cut it.
- 20:52Speaker 3: No. And by the way, for those looking at history,
- 20:55Speaker 3: they are better right now than the nineteen sixty six Giants,
- 20:58Speaker 3: the last team to allow this many points game.
- 21:00Speaker 2: So historically bad, worse than the Super Bowl era.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Uh.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it hasn't been good for them, clearly. I did
- 21:08Speaker 3: want to ask you another question, though, Dan about the offense.
- 21:12Speaker 3: You know, I think Chase Brown's a really good, explosive
- 21:15Speaker 3: running back who can do some things for him. We
- 21:17Speaker 3: saw what the passing game can do, you know, the
- 21:20Speaker 3: outside receivers. No Fans scored a touchdown against the Steelers.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I'm wondering is are the Steelers are the Bengals, like
- 21:28Speaker 3: you know, scheming around their offensive line or has their
- 21:32Speaker 3: offensive line improved because the Steelers hardly had Joe Flacco
- 21:38Speaker 3: under duress. I know he's got to you know, gets
- 21:40Speaker 3: rid of the ball quickly, but has has the offensive
- 21:43Speaker 3: line quietly improved with a couple of young guys at
- 21:46Speaker 3: guard or is it are they sort of scheming around
- 21:51Speaker 3: the offensive line.
- 21:53Speaker 6: The offensive line has significantly improved. So You've got a
- 21:58Speaker 6: second year right tack who was a first round draft
- 22:01Speaker 6: pick last year of Marius Mims, and you have two
- 22:04Speaker 6: rookies starting at guard. So three of the five starters
- 22:08Speaker 6: are really young. They are getting better, and they are
- 22:10Speaker 6: getting better fast. So I think the Bengals are cautiously
- 22:15Speaker 6: optimistic that they've got sixty percent of a good offensive
- 22:20Speaker 6: line going forward with Dylan Fairchild at left guard, Jalen
- 22:23Speaker 6: Rivers at right guard, and a Marius Mims at right tackle.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Ted Karris, their thirty two year old center, has always
- 22:30Speaker 6: kind of been a league average guy, good team leader.
- 22:33Speaker 6: He's never really been a problem. Orlando Brown junior in
- 22:36Speaker 6: the past, has had some great seasons. He's a four
- 22:38Speaker 6: time Pro Bowler. He's been a little bit up and
- 22:41Speaker 6: down in his time with Cincinnati, but I think he's
- 22:45Speaker 6: solid enough. You know, certainly league averager better. So yes,
- 22:48Speaker 6: the offensive line is trending up. As for what the
- 22:52Speaker 6: Bengals did in the first game against Pittsburgh, I think
- 22:56Speaker 6: over the course of Zach Taylor seven years as head coach,
- 22:59Speaker 6: he's just come to the determination. The Steelers are always
- 23:02Speaker 6: great upfront. You've got to get the ball out quickly
- 23:05Speaker 6: to help your offensive line. They certainly did that in
- 23:09Speaker 6: Game one in Cincinnati. They had a good running game
- 23:12Speaker 6: in that game as well. But I would expect them
- 23:14Speaker 6: to try to do that on Sunday.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Yeah, And I got to ask you, obviously, the biggest
- 23:22Speaker 5: offensive weapons, Jamar Chase. Just the season that he's having
- 23:28Speaker 5: once again, it feels like, I mean, just how valuable
- 23:32Speaker 5: is it to have, you know, both him and t Higgins.
- 23:35Speaker 5: I mean, because you look at just the idea in
- 23:39Speaker 5: the offseason, how do you pay both on top of.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Paying a quarterback?
- 23:44Speaker 5: And they've they've made it work, and like you said,
- 23:48Speaker 5: the production is there, it's just the wins aren't there.
- 23:52Speaker 5: You know, how good is that decision now that you
- 23:56Speaker 5: look at it as far as the production that you
- 23:59Speaker 5: get on the field. When we talk about the thirty
- 24:00Speaker 5: plus points the last three weeks in a row only
- 24:04Speaker 5: gone up for Joe Flacco.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Well, that decision to keep both wide receivers has certainly
- 24:10Speaker 6: been good for the offense. The question is how much
- 24:13Speaker 6: money do you have left to pay the defense? And remarkably,
- 24:17Speaker 6: they're still in decent salary cap shape going forward to
- 24:21Speaker 6: be able to add some free agents to this defense
- 24:23Speaker 6: in the upcoming offseason. So they've got to get that right.
- 24:27Speaker 6: When they went to the Super Bowl in twenty twenty one.
- 24:30Speaker 6: The reason why is that they built a really good
- 24:33Speaker 6: offense with the draft, and they built a really good
- 24:36Speaker 6: defense through free agency. But those guys eventually aged out
- 24:41Speaker 6: or left, and now they've got to do it again.
- 24:44Speaker 6: So can they go out and get a Mike Hilton,
- 24:47Speaker 6: who proved to be a great signing in Cincinnati after
- 24:50Speaker 6: he left the Steelers, should obey a wooge who played
- 24:53Speaker 6: great for three years in Cincinnati? And then can they
- 24:56Speaker 6: go out in the draft and get guys like Jesse
- 24:58Speaker 6: Bates who were part of that Super Bowl defense in
- 25:01Speaker 6: twenty twenty one. The draft picks in the last few
- 25:04Speaker 6: years on defense haven't hit, at least not so far.
- 25:07Speaker 6: They're going to have to try to rebuild it with
- 25:09Speaker 6: free agency and the draft this coming off season. And
- 25:12Speaker 6: I would expect virtually every dollar and virtually every pick
- 25:17Speaker 6: to be spent on the defensive side of the ball
- 25:19Speaker 6: because the key guys on offense are all signed. They
- 25:22Speaker 6: know that that side of the ball is good. They've
- 25:25Speaker 6: got to fix this defense and fix it fast.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and Dan to your point, I mean Shamar Stewart
- 25:31Speaker 3: first round pick, Miles Murphy first round pick, those guys
- 25:34Speaker 3: up front. You know, they put a lot of money
- 25:36Speaker 3: into Trey Hendrickson obviously well deserved, Cam Taylor, britt second
- 25:41Speaker 3: round pick, DJ Turner second round pick, Dax Hill first
- 25:44Speaker 3: round pick. I mean they've they've poured. You know, we
- 25:47Speaker 3: know how this works, right one one side, one unit
- 25:50Speaker 3: is usually.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Getting a lot of money.
- 25:53Speaker 3: You know, when that money runs out, hopefully that the
- 25:55Speaker 3: young guys on the other side, you know, have progressed,
- 25:58Speaker 3: and it hasn't happened. They've put the resources draft pick wise,
- 26:02Speaker 3: it just hasn't happened for the defense. Now having said
- 26:06Speaker 3: all this, you know, the Bengals and kicking themselves. I'm
- 26:10Speaker 3: sure for being three and six, even four and five,
- 26:14Speaker 3: if you'd won either one of those games instead of
- 26:17Speaker 3: allowing late scores to the Jets and the Bears. You know,
- 26:20Speaker 3: if this team is four and five, you're a win
- 26:22Speaker 3: away from being in first place. Exiting Akroscher Stadium. I
- 26:25Speaker 3: would say this though, and I felt the same way
- 26:28Speaker 3: going into that game in Cincinnati on a Thursday night,
- 26:33Speaker 3: a Bengals team. By the way, just a quick aside,
- 26:36Speaker 3: the Steelers had won ten games in a row, the
- 26:38Speaker 3: last ten. The Steelers are three and seven against the Bengals,
- 26:41Speaker 3: so keep that in mind, and also the desperation factor
- 26:45Speaker 3: I don't like. I think the Steelers. This game is
- 26:48Speaker 3: very important for the Steelers. I think it's almost this.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Is this season. If you're the Bengals.
- 26:53Speaker 3: If you win this game, you are right back in it.
- 26:56Speaker 3: If you lose this game, you're in very tough straights.
- 26:58Speaker 3: I think that makes him death And I think a
- 27:01Speaker 3: desperate team is always a dangerous team.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Well, I agree with that. I rarely use the term
- 27:08Speaker 6: must win until it truly is so a game it
- 27:11Speaker 6: can end the season, or a playoff game or something
- 27:13Speaker 6: like that. But I do think that those words apply
- 27:16Speaker 6: for the Bengals playoff chances this year, for this week's game,
- 27:20Speaker 6: because they're not going to be a wild card team
- 27:22Speaker 6: at three and six, I think we can toss that
- 27:24Speaker 6: out the window and in a normal year they would
- 27:27Speaker 6: not be in the hunt in the AFC North, but
- 27:29Speaker 6: it's not a normal year. The Steelers are a game
- 27:31Speaker 6: over five hundred and in first, the Ravens started one
- 27:35Speaker 6: in five. They're coming on, but there's still a game
- 27:37Speaker 6: under five hundred and you know who knows. Lamar could
- 27:40Speaker 6: tweak his hamstring again this week. It's possible, so through
- 27:44Speaker 6: no credit or fault of their own. Well, I guess
- 27:48Speaker 6: it is fault of their own. But they're still in
- 27:50Speaker 6: the hunt. The Bengals are because they're three and oh
- 27:52Speaker 6: in the division. I'm sorry, two and oh in the division,
- 27:54Speaker 6: with a chance to get the three and oh and
- 27:56Speaker 6: a chance to be two and oh head to head
- 27:58Speaker 6: against the team that's currently in first place. So yes,
- 28:01Speaker 6: in terms of their playoff chances, I would agree that
- 28:05Speaker 6: this is a must wing, must win game for a
- 28:07Speaker 6: desperate Cincinnati team.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Dan Horde is the outstanding play by play man of
- 28:12Speaker 3: the Cincinnati Bengals. For the Cincinnati Bengals, Dan, look forward
- 28:15Speaker 3: to seeing you on Sunday at Actor Sure Stadium.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Me too, always look forward to the trip to Pittsburgh
- 28:23Speaker 6: and uh we'll see if the Bengals can make it
- 28:26Speaker 6: interesting by playing better defense on Sunday.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Thank you, Dan, You bet my pleasure, Dan Hord.
- 28:34Speaker 3: By the way, By the way, Max uh The when
- 28:37Speaker 3: I was working at WTVH and Syracuse, I got letters
- 28:42Speaker 3: addressed to you know, the mailing lists weren't always changed.
- 28:45Speaker 3: So Steve Ciphers, who is a reporter for ESPN, one
- 28:49Speaker 3: of their early guys, did a great job, terrific anchor
- 28:55Speaker 3: and reporter. He was followed by Mike Turrico Dan Horde.
- 29:00Speaker 3: So I used to get mail addressed to all those guys.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Dan Horde a.
- 29:04Speaker 3: TVH five alumni, CBS at station that basically doesn't exist
- 29:09Speaker 3: anymore anyway.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I just throwing that out as a tippitt.
- 29:12Speaker 3: So we're going to take a break because we have
- 29:16Speaker 3: we have some gentleman coming up next. We're going to
- 29:19Speaker 3: be joined by Ika Domish, who's going to tell us
- 29:22Speaker 3: just give us a little brief update on what's going
- 29:25Speaker 3: on with the NFL in Germany.
- 29:27Speaker 2: He is here. He's one of.
- 29:28Speaker 3: The most respected NFL journalists in Germany with a Steelers
- 29:34Speaker 3: bent toward that coverage, and we're going to talk to
- 29:36Speaker 3: him before we turn our attention back to the Steelers
- 29:39Speaker 3: and Bengals when we continue next in the locker room,
- 29:41Speaker 3: presented b our Neighborhood Ford Store and this year's Pro
- 29:44Speaker 3: Shop on Steers Nation Radio, a part of the Steelers
- 29:46Speaker 3: Audio Network.
- 29:52Speaker 1: This is in the Locker Room with Kingyon Starks on
- 29:56Speaker 1: Steelers Nation Radio, presented by your neighbor hood Forward Store.
- 30:01Speaker 1: The F one is the official truck of the Pittsburgh
- 30:04Speaker 1: Steelers and by Steelers Pro Shop. Get it direct from
- 30:07Speaker 1: the team at the Steelers Pro Shop at shop dot
- 30:10Speaker 1: Steelers dot com.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Hello, Guten tag ish fin Rob King Mitt Max Starks.
- 30:20Speaker 6: I don't know how that.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I don't know how that works. We're joined by ikadamis now? Ika?
- 30:27Speaker 2: How is my German?
- 30:29Speaker 6: That was?
- 30:30Speaker 2: That was pretty good?
- 30:31Speaker 7: I thought I called it in German show? What is happening?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Oh? Please?
- 30:36Speaker 4: So?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Ika Domish is the host of the Steelers German Podcast,
- 30:42Speaker 3: one of the main on air personalities for pro Seben,
- 30:46Speaker 3: one of the main networks in Germany. He's been the
- 30:48Speaker 3: NFL guy for many years, one of the most respected
- 30:50Speaker 3: voices for the game in Germany.
- 30:53Speaker 2: And before we ask you a little bit about football.
- 30:56Speaker 3: In Germany, can you get us caught up on what
- 30:58Speaker 3: it is you're doing here in Pittsburgh.
- 31:01Speaker 6: This is uh, this is.
- 31:03Speaker 7: A trip of a lifetime. I think I just doing
- 31:05Speaker 7: the podcast from Germany normally, but this week I'm here
- 31:09Speaker 7: in Pittsburgh for a couple of recordings for the podcast.
- 31:14Speaker 7: Had a chat with Nick Herbig Christian Kunns, He's immediate
- 31:18Speaker 7: person as well.
- 31:19Speaker 6: That was fun.
- 31:20Speaker 7: And today I will meet of course German's finest with
- 31:24Speaker 7: the Pittsburgh Sealers, Jurius Valschow. And you know it's gonna
- 31:28Speaker 7: be fun Sunday the game against the Bengals.
- 31:30Speaker 6: This is a fun week for me.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a fun week indeed.
- 31:37Speaker 5: And uh, you know, as you just kind of think
- 31:40Speaker 5: about it, like being able to come over here, you know,
- 31:42Speaker 5: go to the team.
- 31:43Speaker 4: And like you said, having having a native countryman and.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Julius west Yaw, uh there, I know he's come over
- 31:50Speaker 5: to Germany and and done some stuff with the NFL.
- 31:55Speaker 5: You know, I believe in the off season, the fast
- 31:58Speaker 5: off season. Can you just talk about what that means
- 32:01Speaker 5: having a player from Germany on one of the teams
- 32:04Speaker 5: that you're coming to visit and uh, you know, just
- 32:07Speaker 5: that experience with them and the exposure of Germany to
- 32:11Speaker 5: American football. Obviously we had we had the NFL Europe
- 32:16Speaker 5: in World football leagues over there, but now really seeing
- 32:20Speaker 5: an earnest effort and investment into Germany with the NFL.
- 32:25Speaker 7: Yeah, the game is growing internationally. I think everybody knows
- 32:28Speaker 7: that even here in the US, there are games overseas,
- 32:32Speaker 7: and we had a couple of those in Germany in
- 32:35Speaker 7: recent years, starting in Munich. This year, we have been
- 32:39Speaker 7: in Berlin, the capital city of Germany, and there were
- 32:44Speaker 7: attack stadium, more than seventy thousand fans in the stands,
- 32:48Speaker 7: and a lot of people they follow their German homegrown players.
- 32:54Speaker 7: And that's why it's so sweet that the Steelers have
- 32:58Speaker 7: Yuius Vergeoffs because he's from the state of Bavaria where
- 33:02Speaker 7: I live, and I met him, like you said, in
- 33:04Speaker 7: the off season when he's been to Germany, and a
- 33:07Speaker 7: lot of people are asking hosts and commentators like me,
- 33:11Speaker 7: how is Julius doing. And that's why it's so cool
- 33:14Speaker 7: to have access to Jurius, and he tells in the
- 33:18Speaker 7: podcasts we did already together, how it is being a
- 33:21Speaker 7: Pittsburgh Steeler, how it is sharing the field with greats
- 33:25Speaker 7: like PJ Wat Aaron Rogers this year and this is
- 33:29Speaker 7: this is such a cool insight and that's why people
- 33:32Speaker 7: start following even more with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They know
- 33:36Speaker 7: about the success in the years before, but they start
- 33:39Speaker 7: to focus following the Steelers in recent years in Germany
- 33:43Speaker 7: with the player like Julius even more.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Well, you know, and Ika domishes our guest, and Ika
- 33:50Speaker 3: just just I know you talked to herbig. That's a
- 33:53Speaker 3: German name. Koontz, that's a German name. Welshoff obviously is German.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Max's middle name is Weisner, mine is Schaefer. So we've
- 34:02Speaker 3: got the Germany covered from this end, I think here
- 34:05Speaker 3: in Pittsburgh. So which leads me to the question of
- 34:08Speaker 3: how popular are the Steelers in Germany. We know they
- 34:11Speaker 3: are hugely popular in Ireland. And I know you've you've
- 34:15Speaker 3: got a deep connection with everything you've done for this
- 34:18Speaker 3: Steelers podcasting and so on.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Are this Youders a popular team in Germany?
- 34:24Speaker 6: They are.
- 34:25Speaker 7: I can tell you I'm a Steelers fan because when
- 34:28Speaker 7: I started watching, they won the Super Bowl with Mike
- 34:32Speaker 7: Tomlin two thousand and eight. That was that is my
- 34:34Speaker 7: personal connection with the Pittsburgh Steelers because when you start
- 34:38Speaker 7: watching from overseas, you of course experienced the successful teams first.
- 34:43Speaker 7: And we started free to air American football in German
- 34:48Speaker 7: television around ten years ago, twenty fourteen. That was the
- 34:53Speaker 7: time when the Steelers had Big Ben Antonio Brown Bell
- 34:58Speaker 7: as the running back, the great defenders like James Harrison.
- 35:03Speaker 7: Those were impact players, those were characters, and that's why
- 35:08Speaker 7: when we started broadcasting, a lot of people fell in
- 35:10Speaker 7: love with the Steelers and with the history of the city.
- 35:14Speaker 7: There's the steel city that really connected with Germany because
- 35:18Speaker 7: we have a lot of industry as well in our country,
- 35:22Speaker 7: and a lot of people really feel that the Steelers
- 35:24Speaker 7: are one of the authentic franchises in the NFL. And
- 35:29Speaker 7: of course I'm right now in the stadium in the
- 35:33Speaker 7: Achrosher Stadium. Germans have a big heart for stadiums and
- 35:38Speaker 7: we love that stadium and I have the view right now.
- 35:41Speaker 7: It's so beautiful.
- 35:42Speaker 6: I like it well.
- 35:45Speaker 5: And also I know that the that the Steelers had
- 35:49Speaker 5: the watch party and the BVB Stadium in Dortmund and
- 35:54Speaker 5: you know, a couple of weeks ago against the Colts.
- 35:56Speaker 5: Can you just talk about that experience that and the
- 35:59Speaker 5: Steelers have having a partnership with a team with another
- 36:02Speaker 5: club in Germany and how unique that is to be
- 36:05Speaker 5: able to have that and also the colors happen to
- 36:07Speaker 5: match as well, so we are definitely on the same page,
- 36:10Speaker 5: you know, with with color choice. But just talk about
- 36:13Speaker 5: that partnership, having a team there as a supporter of
- 36:18Speaker 5: your squad and kind of vice versa.
- 36:21Speaker 7: Yeah, that fits right with the black and yellow and
- 36:24Speaker 7: black and gold.
- 36:26Speaker 6: This is so sweet.
- 36:27Speaker 7: Yeah, we had that watch party in Dortmund and the
- 36:31Speaker 7: connection is pretty strong, and I think that is one
- 36:34Speaker 7: of the key reasons while the game is growing internationally
- 36:38Speaker 7: because soccer is the most popular sport in Germany and
- 36:43Speaker 7: Borosia Dortmund is one of the most popular teams and
- 36:46Speaker 7: there are a lot of players. Even Nick Herbik told
- 36:49Speaker 7: me yesterday when he's playing FIFA, the video games are
- 36:52Speaker 7: basically when he's playing FIFA, he always plays with players
- 36:56Speaker 7: from Borussia Dortmund, and I think this is the connection
- 36:59Speaker 7: where both teams getting to know each other, players from
- 37:04Speaker 7: each team following each other because they're interested in different
- 37:09Speaker 7: sports overseas, and the connection with Boris Adortmund is pretty successful.
- 37:14Speaker 7: We had a couple of players from Borissa Adortmund over
- 37:17Speaker 7: here in Pittsburgh visiting the stadium and vice versa. With
- 37:23Speaker 7: Miles Killerbrew, he has been at the yellow wall. It's
- 37:27Speaker 7: called we have that is a special thing. We have
- 37:30Speaker 7: people standing in our stadiums. There are not seats for everyone.
- 37:35Speaker 7: There is the yellow wall where about eighteen thousand people
- 37:39Speaker 7: are standing and watching the whole game and they are
- 37:42Speaker 7: jumping and singing. And Miles Kilbrough had that experience and
- 37:46Speaker 7: he said that was one of the most impression, most
- 37:50Speaker 7: impressive experience he had ever in a sports venue. And
- 37:55Speaker 7: I think that's where both franchises really connect. It's the
- 37:58Speaker 7: passion about the team. It's in dartment, it's the same.
- 38:03Speaker 7: This is this is the team of the city Dartmund
- 38:05Speaker 7: and this is where the connection really really is really
- 38:09Speaker 7: is good. It makes sense.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Well, I know you have a very tight schedule. We
- 38:14Speaker 3: thank you for your time today. We give you a
- 38:17Speaker 3: donka Shane uh for your time today with us. Thank
- 38:21Speaker 3: you very much. Enjoy the rest of the of your trip.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Are you going to be up in the Are you
- 38:25Speaker 3: going to be up in the press box on Sunday?
- 38:29Speaker 6: Sure?
- 38:29Speaker 7: I will look out for you guys, and uh make
- 38:32Speaker 7: a quick make a quick hello. I will I will
- 38:35Speaker 7: look forward for that game. This is nice. The Uncle
- 38:37Speaker 7: bowling number two, the first one was was impressive. I'm
- 38:41Speaker 7: looking forward for that.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Persay, my friend. Thank you very much. Check out.
- 38:49Speaker 3: It was a blessing, Joe, thank you very much. Acadamish
- 38:55Speaker 3: just giving us a little insight. You know when you
- 38:58Speaker 3: see the NFL and ously we have you know, Alvalo
- 39:02Speaker 3: Martin joined us every Tuesday, uh you know, uh the
- 39:06Speaker 3: part of the Spanish speaking broadcast, and that's a big
- 39:10Speaker 3: deal in Mexico.
- 39:11Speaker 2: This Steelers is huge in Mexico.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Huge in Ireland as we found out Max and and
- 39:16Speaker 3: certainly growing and big in Germany as well. And you know,
- 39:19Speaker 3: maybe one of these days we'll see the Steelers play
- 39:21Speaker 3: games in Mexico City and in Berlin.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, and you know this is one of
- 39:29Speaker 5: the three countries that the Steelers have there there there,
- 39:34Speaker 5: I guess the GMP Global Marketing Program through the NFL.
- 39:40Speaker 5: This is one of the three countries assigned to the
- 39:42Speaker 5: Steelers Ireland, Mexico and Germany is the third country. So
- 39:47Speaker 5: you wonder why it's like, well, why are the Steelers
- 39:49Speaker 5: talking about Germany. Of a sudden thought, we had Ireland
- 39:51Speaker 5: and I thought we were doing Mexico. You get three
- 39:53Speaker 5: countries per team split out throughout all thirty two teams
- 39:58Speaker 5: and you know, we have a game this weekend that's
- 40:00Speaker 5: going to be in Madrid, right, so you have the
- 40:02Speaker 5: Spain market opening up and coming online. Germany obviously has
- 40:05Speaker 5: been online for for a couple of years now. But
- 40:10Speaker 5: that's that's the growth process of this becoming an international sport,
- 40:13Speaker 5: is allowing each organization to.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Come in and you know, freely market.
- 40:18Speaker 5: In these in these countries to see if there is viability.
- 40:22Speaker 5: And I think you know the first step once again,
- 40:24Speaker 5: Steelers sold over two hundred and fifty tickets to that
- 40:27Speaker 5: watch party, so they know that there is a draw
- 40:32Speaker 5: for not only American football.
- 40:33Speaker 4: But specifically Steelers football.
- 40:35Speaker 5: And like you said, the partnership with BVB, you know,
- 40:39Speaker 5: soccer club and and and just going through the different processes,
- 40:43Speaker 5: it won't be a surprise if you see the Steelers,
- 40:45Speaker 5: you know, in this market and a game in the future,
- 40:48Speaker 5: whether we're a visiting team, because there's multiple teams in
- 40:50Speaker 5: each market of the three that are assigned.
- 40:53Speaker 4: So it's a pretty cool thing to see the international
- 40:58Speaker 4: scaling growth.
- 40:59Speaker 5: That Roger good Dell in the NFL has really made
- 41:02Speaker 5: the effort on it and they and they put it
- 41:03Speaker 5: in the team's pockets. So this doesn't go a part
- 41:05Speaker 5: of what we call the group licensing Agreement.
- 41:08Speaker 4: So this isn't just so the money that you gain
- 41:10Speaker 4: in these countries and what you do in these countries is.
- 41:13Speaker 5: Not pooled resources from all thirty two teams like a
- 41:17Speaker 5: g l A, which that applies to everything else state side.
- 41:21Speaker 5: This is individual marketed things that the Steelers have to
- 41:24Speaker 5: go out of pocket too to endorse, to you know,
- 41:29Speaker 5: provide services for and to go you know, do things
- 41:33Speaker 5: on their own dime and create these partnerships themselves. So
- 41:36Speaker 5: it's been it's been a fun process watching the different
- 41:38Speaker 5: business summits in these countries and you know, talking to
- 41:42Speaker 5: potential sponsors that that are that are in those countries
- 41:45Speaker 5: and like connecting with the fans on more of a
- 41:47Speaker 5: grassroots level. And so this is just another example of
- 41:50Speaker 5: that and the Steelers you know, doing a tremendous job.
- 41:53Speaker 5: We saw what the success in Ireland looks like. We
- 41:56Speaker 5: see what you know, Mexico has been and will always be.
- 42:00Speaker 5: I mean, the Steelers are the number one team in
- 42:01Speaker 5: the Mexico marketing. You have all those other teams that
- 42:03Speaker 5: are on the borders of Mexico and the Steelers are
- 42:06Speaker 5: the one that have the greatest popularity draw, so it's
- 42:11Speaker 5: just continuing to spread our love and fanaticisms for the
- 42:15Speaker 5: team and.
- 42:15Speaker 4: The Black and Gold up there in the steel City.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Sounds wonderful and we're gonna have much more of course
- 42:20Speaker 3: on today's game as well. But I thought that was
- 42:23Speaker 3: the coolest side with Ikea Damish being in town as
- 42:27Speaker 3: part of the Steelers Podcast in Germany. Want to remind
