- 0:38Speaker 4: the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for
- 0:42Speaker 4: mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor
- 0:48Speaker 4: pumping out one million.

- 1:16Speaker 2: Provide more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:20Speaker 6: The popcorn you're eating has been pissed in. Film at 11.

- 1:47Speaker 7: it's our town of Halloween.
- 1:50Speaker 8: This is Halloween, this is Halloween. Don't you scream, you're
- 1:54Speaker 8: dead all night. This is Halloween, everybody be safe. Don't
- 1:57Speaker 8: you cheat, don't you hate, it's gonna die right. It's
- 2:00Speaker 8: our town of Halloween.
- 2:01Speaker 1: This is Halloween, this is Halloween.
- 2:06Speaker 3: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 2:09Speaker 6: And I'm Carl.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We're coming to you live via digital recording from.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Gallery K in beautiful, beautiful downtown Butchertown.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I'd say sunny, but the sun's going down because we're
- 2:19Speaker 3: getting ready for the first inaugural Meltdown Night at the Movies.
- 2:26Speaker 9: Yes.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I want that cheesy theme to kick in right now.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Lights going off, spotlights. It's way up in the sky.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Cheesy graphics. That's how I'm picturing it in my head.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I hope you guys are while you're listening at home.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But especially, you know, we've been planning this kind of
- 2:44Speaker 3: for a while. It's been in the talking stage for
- 2:46Speaker 3: technically years. And then I've been talking with you about
- 2:48Speaker 3: doing it for months and months on end. So it's
- 2:51Speaker 3: kind of good that it kicked in now because... We've
- 2:53Speaker 3: actually crossed over into October, which usually we do a
- 2:56Speaker 3: month-long extravaganza of horror and cheesy Halloween-related stuff, so it
- 3:02Speaker 3: seemed like a good time to bust out some cheesy
- 3:04Speaker 3: horror movies and some Halloween-type fun.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm trying to finish up this month of Murray,
- 3:16Speaker 6: Bill Murray movies I've done all month, and the closer
- 3:20Speaker 6: we get to October, the more I'm like, oh. You
- 3:22Speaker 6: were good to me, Bill, but I'm ready for four movies.
- 3:25Speaker 3: You end it with Ghostbusters. You ease your way into
- 3:27Speaker 3: the Halloween season.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Well, we got one more left. We're going to do Meatballs,
- 3:31Speaker 6: which I guess can be kind of scary.
- 3:33Speaker 3: It's scary, but it's definitely more summer-esque. You need to
- 3:37Speaker 3: lead with that. Next year, when you do The Month
- 3:39Speaker 3: of Murray.
- 3:39Speaker 6: If you are shocked and terrified by Bill Murray, then
- 3:43Speaker 6: Meatballs will definitely be scary.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Who can be shocked and terrified?
- 3:48Speaker 6: Like, I wonder if he's ever done somebody wrong. You know, like,
- 3:52Speaker 6: he's always, like, such a positive or, but he also
- 3:54Speaker 6: seems very aloof.
- 3:55Speaker 3: He's weird and crazy, but.
- 3:56Speaker 6: And I'm wondering if there's not one person out there
- 3:59Speaker 6: who he just put all of his intelligence into.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Probably, like, his neighbor from when he first started, like,
- 4:03Speaker 3: making it.
- 4:04Speaker 6: That sounds more like a Bill Murray plot than a
- 4:06Speaker 6: Bill Murray real life.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But I could just see almost in, like, sitcom form.
- 4:11Speaker 9: Murray!
- 4:12Speaker 3: Like, he's just, he's always, like, stole my newspaper again?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Damn it! And I'm like, you know, it's just always
- 4:17Speaker 3: some sort of, like, minor thing, but just Pushing this
- 4:19Speaker 3: guy over to the edge.
- 4:20Speaker 6: That's a screenplay idea altogether.
- 4:23Speaker 3: This could be a horror movie.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Bill Murray pissing someone off to a point where every
- 4:27Speaker 6: time he sees something about Bill Murray, he's terrified.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Or maybe like a.
- 4:30Speaker 6: Someone go ahead and steal that and put my name
- 4:31Speaker 6: on it.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Maybe like a single white female with Bill Murray. Like,
- 4:35Speaker 3: he pretends to be his friend, he moves in with him,
- 4:38Speaker 3: and then slowly, ever so slowly, starts taking over the
- 4:42Speaker 3: life of Bill Murray. Frightening. See, I was going to
- 4:49Speaker 3: lead into this, because this is a big thing for tonight, too.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Once again, in my planning of this for eons now,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I've always, you know, in my head, it's always been Meltdown,
- 5:00Speaker 3: Night at the Movies, and there's always been popcorn. And now,
- 5:06Speaker 3: it's fabulous guest star, Anthony! Look who's joining us for Meltdown,
- 5:12Speaker 3: Night at the Movies!
- 5:13Speaker 10: I just came in here for coffee. I didn't realize
- 5:15Speaker 10: something was going on here what are we doing we might.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Give you some coffee and popcorn popcorn is a thing
- 5:21Speaker 3: popcorn is more than a thing it's a requirement it's
- 5:25Speaker 3: meltdown night at the movies.
- 5:26Speaker 10: Hold the phone popcorn things just got serious.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Literally turn off your phones people we can't have you
- 5:33Speaker 3: texting or turn off your pagers if you live in
- 5:36Speaker 3: the 90s somewhere but yeah just that's our public service
- 5:40Speaker 3: announcement turn off your phones the 90s.
- 5:41Speaker 10: Never 90s never ended people still fax.
- 5:45Speaker 3: That explains your wardrobe. Wait a minute.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Uh-oh.
- 5:49Speaker 10: They can't see what I'm wearing. We won't describe it
- 5:51Speaker 10: to them.
- 5:51Speaker 3: It's the best, really. So how have you been, Anthony?
- 5:57Speaker 10: Oh, I've been good, Brian. You know, hanging loose, still
- 6:01Speaker 10: out there pounding pavement, looking for the jobs in Louisville.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Things have changed quite a bit in this here town.
- 6:06Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 3: It's a strange, wonderful world we live in.
- 6:10Speaker 10: Beyond that, you know, just staying on a, Keeping up
- 6:13Speaker 10: with watching some movies. Watched Tusk the other night for
- 6:15Speaker 10: the first time. All right.
- 6:17Speaker 3: What is your response?
- 6:19Speaker 10: On Tusk, you know, I thought that the first half
- 6:21Speaker 10: was incredible. Tension was built up perfectly. Justin Long really
- 6:26Speaker 10: convinced me that he was just a douchey reporter. And
- 6:29Speaker 10: then the second half just falls off completely. I lost
- 6:32Speaker 10: total interest. And, you know, the makeup was good. I
- 6:36Speaker 10: can get on the makeup.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Actually, Robert Kurtzman, who was just on the show, did
- 6:39Speaker 3: that entire Tusk makeup and That part he did a
- 6:43Speaker 3: great job on.
- 6:44Speaker 10: He nailed it. Justin Long looked like a human walrus,
- 6:48Speaker 10: a humanoid.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Well, and it's meant to be. Yeah, it's not supposed
- 6:51Speaker 3: to look like a walrus. It really is based on
- 6:54Speaker 3: this ridiculous story, which is a guy trapping someone inside
- 6:58Speaker 3: of a walrus suit. So it does look like it's
- 7:01Speaker 3: pieced together, and it is a Frankenstein version of it.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So again, the idea of the.
- 7:08Speaker 10: Smith's writing, I'm always on and off about it. You know,
- 7:11Speaker 10: he does some clever little quips in there, like the
- 7:14Speaker 10: main character, Justin Long's character's name is Wallace, and I
- 7:17Speaker 10: thought that was kind of a funny play on Walrus.
- 7:20Speaker 10: And then you have, there's a doctor named Mousseau, which
- 7:24Speaker 10: obviously was a play for Dr. Moreau, in which, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 10: I'm on and off with Kevin Smith, but this one
- 7:32Speaker 10: I just couldn't really get behind because of the second
- 7:35Speaker 10: half of the movie.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I agree.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I may have gone into it. It seems like we
- 7:39Speaker 3: talked about it a little bit with Adam Burke. But
- 7:41Speaker 3: I was angry. Like, physically, notably angry at this movie.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I don't even know how to explain. And that's the thing.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I've been a Kevin Smith fan for so long. But
- 7:54Speaker 3: I was just like, I don't know what he's doing here. Like,
- 7:57Speaker 3: I really, like, I don't know. Like, he's throwing some
- 8:01Speaker 3: weird notes out there along the way. But I'm like,
- 8:03Speaker 3: this one, like, the whole thing misses for me. Like,
- 8:05Speaker 3: in its entirety. don't know exactly what he was going
- 8:09Speaker 3: for and I don't feel like it landed anyway.
- 8:13Speaker 10: It's like, it's like, A joke that he made that
- 8:16Speaker 10: only he can laugh at.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's way more entertaining to listen to the
- 8:20Speaker 3: setup of the movie because you get to hear it.
- 8:22Speaker 3: That was way more interesting.
- 8:24Speaker 10: Yeah, I listened to that too.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I was listening to that when it happened. And I'm like,
- 8:26Speaker 3: we're listening to the birth of this idea in the
- 8:29Speaker 3: movie that's going to take place. And really, by the
- 8:31Speaker 3: end of that episode, that's kind of all you need. Like,
- 8:33Speaker 3: it didn't have to happen. All they had to do
- 8:36Speaker 3: was talk about doing it. And they'd already gotten the
- 8:39Speaker 3: idea out there, gotten it out there to people. At
- 8:41Speaker 3: least thousands of people. I don't know how huge his
- 8:43Speaker 3: audience is, but a lot of people already got the message.
- 8:46Speaker 3: So it felt almost redundant to do it because they
- 8:49Speaker 3: really did follow almost beat for beat what they originally
- 8:52Speaker 3: laid out. So it's like, even the end, it's almost
- 8:54Speaker 3: exactly the same. So I'm like, I knew where it
- 8:57Speaker 3: was going and it was still pissing me off.
- 8:59Speaker 10: The idea of Tusk has much more resonance than the
- 9:02Speaker 10: actual implementation of the idea. And then Haley Jo Osmond.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I like Haley. I like Haley. He's coming back.
- 9:13Speaker 10: Oh, the hunter dude? Oh, that guy. Yeah, he was
- 9:25Speaker 10: actually really funny in that.
- 9:28Speaker 3: The big beard.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 9:33Speaker 3: There's not much else to work with.
- 9:35Speaker 10: And that was in the first half.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So we've crossed over. We're discussing we're heading into our
- 9:41Speaker 3: big Halloween extravaganza here. So are you looking forward to
- 9:44Speaker 3: any horror themed events or bringing out some of your
- 9:48Speaker 3: favorite horror movies?
- 9:50Speaker 10: Oh, let's see. I unfortunately missed the playing of Nightmare
- 9:55Speaker 10: on Elm Street at the drive-in, and that's one of
- 9:57Speaker 10: my all-time favorite things to do is go to the
- 9:59Speaker 10: drive-in and watch those old horror films up there.
- 10:02Speaker 3: We went last year and did one at the drive-in,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and it was kind of fun. And I was trying
- 10:06Speaker 3: to piece it together this year, but schedules didn't really happen.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So instead, I decided we're kind of doing our own
- 10:11Speaker 3: mini drive-in here.
- 10:13Speaker 10: They kind of cut it off earlier this year than
- 10:15Speaker 10: they normally do.
- 10:15Speaker 3: It seems like it's moving back. Every year, because even
- 10:18Speaker 3: last year I was like, why is it so early? But, like,
- 10:21Speaker 3: I don't know. It seems like every year they're going
- 10:22Speaker 3: back a week or two just to mess with us.
- 10:25Speaker 10: And, see, a couple friends of mine, they own the
- 10:28Speaker 10: Cure Lounge over there, Floyd and Allison Friel's, and they
- 10:30Speaker 10: always set up, like, a haunted house every year, and
- 10:32Speaker 10: I help them build that. So that's something I look
- 10:35Speaker 10: forward to, hanging out, drinking a couple good beers, setting
- 10:40Speaker 10: up spooky Halloween decorations for people. Oh, as far as
- 10:44Speaker 10: movies go, let's see. We've got some good stuff, Crimson Peak.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Looking forward to that with our dear friend, Doug Jones.
- 10:52Speaker 10: Oh, bless.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Man that you rolled around on the floor with, Doug Jones.
- 10:57Speaker 10: Oh, me and Doug just hanging out on the carpet.
- 10:59Speaker 10: All of us. That was a great time.
- 11:01Speaker 3: It was an interesting day, I have to say.
- 11:04Speaker 10: And then there's a couple good things that I've seen
- 11:08Speaker 10: trailers for. What's it called? Witch? I don't know if
- 11:11Speaker 10: you've seen the trailer for this.
- 11:13Speaker 11: I don't know if I have.
- 11:14Speaker 10: It's like a period piece, and I'm pretty sure it's
- 11:17Speaker 10: a foreign language, foreign film, but it's about just these
- 11:22Speaker 10: young girls getting accused of being witches, and the trailer's terrifying.
- 11:26Speaker 10: It had me hooked. Which trailer?
- 11:32Speaker 9: Which?
- 11:32Speaker 10: Which trailer? Which trailer?
- 11:34Speaker 11: My heart is not to do that.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Which?
- 11:36Speaker 3: Which movie?
- 11:37Speaker 10: Just a trailer full of witches.
- 11:39Speaker 3: So sad.
- 11:42Speaker 10: What about you?
- 11:43Speaker 3: What do you got?
- 11:44Speaker 10: On your plate this fall.
- 11:47Speaker 6: The dentist from the makers of the reanimator starring the
- 11:51Speaker 6: dude from LA Law. Corbin Bernson. 50 cents. The thing
- 11:58Speaker 6: from another world, 50th anniversary edition, digitally remastered. That's a
- 12:02Speaker 6: good thing.
- 12:04Speaker 10: RKO picture.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Never heard of it. And saboteur as opposed to sabotage.
- 12:12Speaker 6: By Alfred Hitchcock.
- 12:13Speaker 10: Slowly collecting.
- 12:15Speaker 3: That's when you know Alfred Hitchcock made so many movies.
- 12:19Speaker 3: When he made not only Saboteur, but also Sabotage.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I haven't seen this before.
- 12:24Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 12:24Speaker 6: You're probably talking about Sabotage.
- 12:26Speaker 10: This is Saboteur.
- 12:27Speaker 3: And one of the few men who's remade his own movie.
- 12:31Speaker 3: He did it for so long that he came back
- 12:33Speaker 3: around and went, you know, I think I'm going to
- 12:35Speaker 3: take another stab.
- 12:35Speaker 4: At that one.
- 12:36Speaker 6: Like that Funny Games guy did that too, right?
- 12:38Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly the same. Same guy, same movie. Is that
- 12:42Speaker 3: Michael Mann? No, the French dude. Oh, wait.
- 12:45Speaker 10: What's his name?
- 12:46Speaker 6: Michael Mann did Miami Vice twice.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Which is weird also. Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 10: He did Colin Farrell and was that Jamie Foxx? Yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 10: that's not right.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Miami Vice?
- 12:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 10: That one was pretty fun actually.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Was it?
- 12:59Speaker 10: I haven't seen that one.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Worse than I came up with Philip Michael Thomas faster? No,
- 13:04Speaker 3: not at all.
- 13:05Speaker 10: I'll tell you, I just bought the editor on Blu-ray
- 13:08Speaker 10: the other day. I haven't watched it yet, but I've
- 13:09Speaker 10: been hearing all kinds of good stuff about it. And
- 13:12Speaker 10: the tagline is really what got me. The tagline is,
- 13:15Speaker 10: he'll leave you on the cutting room floor.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Nice.
- 13:19Speaker 3: And to not leave people hanging, it's... It's Michael Henneke?
- 13:21Speaker 6: I think Henneke.
- 13:22Speaker 3: And I can only remember that, which, again, long-time listeners
- 13:25Speaker 3: will remember our epic episode with Jess Weixler, who continually,
- 13:30Speaker 3: to the point that we made a drinking game out
- 13:32Speaker 3: of it, Referred to.
- 13:33Speaker 9: Well, Henneke said this about the movie and Henneke said
- 13:36Speaker 9: that about the movie.
- 13:37Speaker 3: So she constantly referenced the weird ideas that the director
- 13:41Speaker 3: approaches funny games with. Did you drink Hennessy every time
- 13:43Speaker 3: it comes up? Actually, no. I made it. We were
- 13:47Speaker 3: doing it at a coffee shop. I know it's crazy.
- 13:49Speaker 3: It's rare that any of us ever go to a coffee. Oh, wait.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Where are we now? Anyway, yeah. So it was a
- 13:54Speaker 3: coffee drinking game. We're pretty popular here. It's another special
- 13:58Speaker 3: guest star. Jacqueline, jump in on the mic.
- 14:04Speaker 4: What's up, everybody?
- 14:06Speaker 3: Previous star of Movie Meltdown.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Two times, I believe.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Several episodes, actually. You may remember her from the, let's see,
- 14:17Speaker 3: we were at the Meltdown Macabre last Halloween to bring
- 14:20Speaker 3: it back to our Halloween theme. And you joined us
- 14:23Speaker 3: for the first installment of the Purple Rain anniversary recap.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Yeah, when there were only three of us. And the
- 14:31Speaker 4: other one, weren't there like a whole bunch more people?
- 14:33Speaker 3: Oh, there was, yeah. Well, that one I'd been collecting
- 14:35Speaker 3: people talking about it for like an entire year.
- 14:38Speaker 11: So, yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 3: The fact that we still yammered on equally as long
- 14:41Speaker 3: with just the three of us tells you a lot.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I pack a punch.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. We like to talk, so.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I would like, if I may, to take you on
- 14:52Speaker 2: a strange journey.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Have you any horror movie favorites that you're looking forward
- 14:57Speaker 3: to revisiting this Halloween season? Oh, boy.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Um.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Well, I just recently watched Oculus at your recommendation.
- 15:05Speaker 1: And?
- 15:06Speaker 4: And that was really cool.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I thought it was cool. Like, I went in with
- 15:09Speaker 3: low to no expectations. Like, I kind of don't even
- 15:12Speaker 3: know if I knew for sure what the plot was.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I just kind of had a few people go, oh, yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 3: that's cool. And then I went in not knowing hardly anything,
- 15:18Speaker 3: didn't know who the stars were going to be, and, like,
- 15:20Speaker 3: was really kind of impressed because I didn't see any
- 15:23Speaker 3: of it coming except the big.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Never mind.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Spoiler alert. Well, I guess I went in with... the
- 15:28Speaker 4: opposite because you were like, it's so cool. You should
- 15:30Speaker 4: watch that movie. So I went in with, I went
- 15:33Speaker 4: in with pretty high expectations. And then I was sort
- 15:36Speaker 4: of like, this is really weird.
- 15:37Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 15:38Speaker 4: This is very odd. I don't know if I really
- 15:40Speaker 4: love all the performances in it, but it was a
- 15:43Speaker 4: cool movie.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I was okay with most of the two main leads.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Oh, I'm going, speaking of old horror favorites, I'm going
- 15:52Speaker 4: to DC later this month. And guess where I'm going
- 15:54Speaker 4: to go in Georgetown? The staircase.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Of The Exorcist.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Are you going to roll down it?
- 16:01Speaker 4: Yes. Nick's going to push me down.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Please take photos the whole way down as you flip
- 16:07Speaker 3: over and over and over.
- 16:08Speaker 4: I'll take a video. Yes.
- 16:10Speaker 3: You can post it. We'll retweet it from our wonderful
- 16:14Speaker 3: Meltdown page.
- 16:16Speaker 4: All right.
- 16:16Speaker 3: We're about to fire up the popcorn maker. Oh, cool.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Get this party started.
- 16:21Speaker 4: There's even a big bowl.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. All right.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Let's fire up the popcorn.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Popcorn freshly popped and buttered look good sure it looks
- 16:37Speaker 2: good and it tastes even better get some now.

- 17:13Speaker 3: which turntable you need. Here it goes. Real pop popcorn, people.
- 17:24Speaker 3: We spare no expense here at Moving Outdown. And look
- 17:29Speaker 3: who's joined us, it's Marlena! So, Marlena, you've been gone
- 17:34Speaker 3: for a long time. Don't you have, since this is
- 17:36Speaker 3: our Halloween episode, don't you have spooky Romanian stories to
- 17:40Speaker 3: share with people? Damn it, make something up.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 17:48Speaker 9: So, I was staying in this small town in the
- 17:51Speaker 9: Transylvanian region called Oderhe, and we decided to take a
- 17:54Speaker 9: walk because it's this really country, bucolic sort of place,
- 17:59Speaker 9: pretty safe.
- 18:00Speaker 1: And....
- 18:02Speaker 9: We're like walking down the street next to our inn and.
- 18:08Speaker 13: A bat flew over our head.
- 18:10Speaker 9: And we got really scared and ran inside.
- 18:13Speaker 1: It was a bat.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Was it a bat?
- 18:14Speaker 6: It was a bat.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Or was he just in the form.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Of a bat?
- 18:19Speaker 13: It was a bat.
- 18:20Speaker 3: You're ruining this story.
- 18:22Speaker 9: That was literally the scariest thing that happened. There's nothing scary.
- 18:28Speaker 9: I didn't even see any people who like dressed.
- 18:31Speaker 13: In all black.
- 18:32Speaker 3: We have that here. What are you talking about?
- 18:34Speaker 13: Yeah, there's nothing scary. No.
- 18:37Speaker 3: No.
- 18:38Speaker 13: It was like the most non-scary place I've ever been.
- 18:40Speaker 3: This is the worst Romanian story ever.
- 18:42Speaker 13: Disneyland is scarier.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Well, they have the Haunted Mansion, obviously.
- 18:45Speaker 13: In Pennsylvania, yeah.
- 18:47Speaker 9: Even Braun Castle, it's like a white, light-filled castle. And
- 18:53Speaker 9: the Punari Fortress is like on a beautiful mountain. There's
- 18:59Speaker 9: some fake heads on poles, but that's pretty much it.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I do like fake heads on poles. That's why I
- 19:07Speaker 3: put them in my front yard. It does keep people away.
- 19:11Speaker 9: I mean, I have some great stories, but none of
- 19:13Speaker 9: them are scary. Nothing scary happened there.
- 19:16Speaker 7: Boring.
- 19:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 3: You can tell your fun stories later.
- 19:19Speaker 9: I mean, I literally spent a solid month. Digging up
- 19:24Speaker 9: human remains in a Transylvanian graveyard.
- 19:27Speaker 3: And that's not creepy?
- 19:28Speaker 13: Nothing scary. No, it wasn't creepy.
- 19:30Speaker 9: Like, I thought it would be creepy, but then it's
- 19:33Speaker 9: just like, I've been touching 700-year-old bones for the last
- 19:38Speaker 9: six hours, and then it's time to, like, take a
- 19:40Speaker 9: break and eat lunch. And nobody even bothers to wash
- 19:43Speaker 9: our hands. Like, we have dead people bones on our hands,
- 19:46Speaker 9: and we didn't. It's just, eat your sandwich, about your business.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Well now you're just creepy.
- 19:52Speaker 13: No, it wasn't.
- 19:52Speaker 9: It wasn't creepy at all. Like there was nothing scary
- 19:55Speaker 9: that happened. Like I thought there'd be like steaks and
- 20:00Speaker 9: people and stuff like that.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And like, did you at least put some in people?
- 20:04Speaker 2: No.
- 20:06Speaker 13: I mean, they were so old.
- 20:07Speaker 9: Like, the coffins had rotted away. So if they were wooden,
- 20:10Speaker 9: it wouldn't have.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I know. Then they would have fallen apart. It would
- 20:12Speaker 3: have been cool.
- 20:12Speaker 13: They actually did find a few.
- 20:16Speaker 9: Like, werewolf lore is way more prevalent in Romania than, like, vampires.
- 20:22Speaker 13: That's purely made up.
- 20:24Speaker 9: In certain towns, kind of like, have turned that into
- 20:28Speaker 9: a tourist kind of thing. But this wasn't at our site, which.
- 20:33Speaker 13: Was Project Falva.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 9: They found like a metal scythe around where someone's neck
- 20:43Speaker 9: would be because to stop people from coming back, they
- 20:45Speaker 9: would like put a scythe there. Or just chop off
- 20:49Speaker 9: their head with it. Well, they wouldn't chop off their
- 20:51Speaker 9: head because that's like not part of a Christian burial.
- 20:53Speaker 9: But if they were to come back to life, the
- 20:57Speaker 9: scythe would chop their head off and they would die.
- 21:00Speaker 6: So that was what that was about.
- 21:01Speaker 3: That's exactly true.
- 21:02Speaker 9: We got really excited because we did find a fang.
- 21:05Speaker 9: And we're like, a fang, a fang, we found a fang.
- 21:07Speaker 13: It was a pig tooth.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Were they plastic teeth?
- 21:11Speaker 9: There was one random girl outside of our inn. Like,
- 21:14Speaker 9: we went to climb a mountain that was, like, next
- 21:18Speaker 9: to the bed and breakfast that we stayed in. And
- 21:21Speaker 9: she was, like, she had plastic fangs in. And she was, like, blah, ha, ha.
- 21:29Speaker 9: It was, like, the most hilarious thing. She obviously wasn't
- 21:31Speaker 9: from there because you can't even mention her. You can't
- 21:35Speaker 9: even say the word vampire without.
- 21:36Speaker 3: People hating you. The Romanian outfit of Hot Topic.
- 21:44Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 21:46Speaker 3: The other tie-in for you, you're the only one who
- 21:48Speaker 3: will remember this. If you go back many millions of
- 21:52Speaker 3: years ago when we started Movie Meltdown, speaking of ancient
- 21:55Speaker 3: artifacts and old decrepit bones, actually this is closer to
- 22:00Speaker 3: the way they used to go. And I thought as
- 22:03Speaker 3: we got back into this, I would bring back a
- 22:05Speaker 3: classic part of what used to be every episode, every
- 22:09Speaker 3: time before we watched whatever cheesy movie we were watching,
- 22:12Speaker 3: we would also watch a cheesy trailer to go with it. Marlena,
- 22:16Speaker 3: you remember these lovely trailers?
- 22:18Speaker 13: Yeah, the, what were they called? Something Weird?
- 22:23Speaker 3: This one is from the Something Weird video collection. Do
- 22:28Speaker 3: we want to start from the beginning again? Have you
- 22:30Speaker 3: forgotten them all by now?
- 22:31Speaker 13: No, there's some of those I can never forget.
- 22:34Speaker 3: We can start from the bottom up.
- 22:35Speaker 13: Okay, that works.
- 22:36Speaker 3: That'll mix it up a little bit.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yep.
- 22:39Speaker 3: All right, let's head into this week's creepy trailer.
- 22:45Speaker 2: In the annals of corruption, there is no more cogent
- 22:48Speaker 2: tone than the incredible chronicle of Jekyll and Hyde. Although
- 22:54Speaker 2: this terrifying tale has been told on film many times,
- 22:57Speaker 2: it has never before been filmed in a version... strictly
- 23:02Speaker 2: and solely for adult eyes and ears. Now, you will
- 23:07Speaker 2: witness the adult version of Jekyll and Hyde. You will
- 23:14Speaker 2: see plenty of Hyde.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Oh, you're so good, Doctor.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You're such a good patient.
- 23:21Speaker 1: That's right.
- 23:23Speaker 2: A probing, dedicated scientist with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge,
- 23:28Speaker 2: even forbidden knowledge, tastes that which was never meant to
- 23:32Speaker 2: be tasted. The transformation that follows could only occur in
- 23:37Speaker 2: your wildest, weirdest... Pretty tough place, you know. Seems to be.
- 23:43Speaker 11: Nice girl wouldn't even hang around this joint.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I'm nice, all right.
- 23:49Speaker 13: Depending on how you look at it.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Her appetite for carnage and carnality was insatiable. One by one,
- 23:56Speaker 2: she devoured all who crossed her path. It all began
- 24:00Speaker 2: in the dark corridors of this man's soul. It ends
- 24:05Speaker 2: in a mind-shattering climax that will suck you into a
- 24:08Speaker 2: whirlpool of explicit sex and explosive violence. It's a regular
- 24:14Speaker 2: cockwork orange. The adult version of Jekyll and Hyde. A
- 24:22Speaker 2: tale of hex and sex. Rated X.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Alright, so we've survived the trailer. Are we ready for
- 24:30Speaker 3: this week's feature? This week's Meltdown Night of the Movies
- 24:35Speaker 3: feature is The Screaming Skull, which does feature possibly the
- 24:41Speaker 3: best opening of any movie ever. So let's get going
- 24:44Speaker 3: on this.
- 24:44Speaker 13: Have we watched this before?
- 24:46Speaker 3: I don't think so. It did seem kind of familiar,
- 24:48Speaker 3: but we haven't done it for the show, I know.
- 24:49Speaker 13: Are you positive?
- 24:50Speaker 7: Are you positive?
- 24:54Speaker 14: This is.
- 24:57Speaker 3: The best opening ever, though.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It really is.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Every horror movie should start like this.
- 25:03Speaker 14: The Screaming Skull is a motion picture that reaches its
- 25:06Speaker 14: climax in shocking horror. Its impact is so terrifying that
- 25:11Speaker 14: it may have an unforeseen effect. It may kill you. Therefore,
- 25:19Speaker 14: its producers feel they must assure free burial services to
- 25:22Speaker 14: anyone who dies of fright while seeing The Screaming Skull.
- 25:29Speaker 1: See the other.
- 25:37Speaker 8: Side Looking for the truth Cause I don't.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Need no more self control All.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I want is your screaming.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Skull I'll give you my heart and my soul All
- 25:52Speaker 5: I want is your screaming.
- 25:55Speaker 11: Skull Want some music for your ears? Doo-Wop Shop makes
- 26:06Speaker 11: it easy to rent for any event, business meeting, or

- 26:24Speaker 11: online at doo-wop-shop.com. Doo-Wop Shop. We're serious about music.
- 26:37Speaker 9: Hi, this is Dick Miller, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 26:45Speaker 11: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 26:47Speaker 6: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 26:49Speaker 14: All of life's riddles are.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Answered in the movies.
- 26:52Speaker 5: And now, on with the show.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I'm getting better at it myself. All I.
- 27:01Speaker 13: Want is to scream.
- 27:12Speaker 3: All right, so we've finished up the movie. To get
- 27:15Speaker 3: into the details here on this week's Meltdown Night of
- 27:19Speaker 3: the Movies feature, the movie is The Screaming Skull. The
- 27:22Speaker 3: year is 1958. The director is Alex Nicole. I don't know, N-I-C-O-L?
- 27:29Speaker 3: Is that where we're going to go with? If not, apologies, Alex.
- 27:33Speaker 3: And the plot, according to IMDb, is a newly married
- 27:37Speaker 3: couple arrives at the home of the husband's late wife,
- 27:40Speaker 3: where the gardens have been maintained by a gardener faithful
- 27:43Speaker 3: to the dead woman's memory. Soon, eerie events lead the
- 27:46Speaker 3: new wife to think she's losing her mind.
- 27:50Speaker 10: Spoiler alert.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I'm assuming we're going to ruin this with leaf talk
- 27:55Speaker 3: or whatever it is we're going to get into. So,
- 27:58Speaker 3: where would you like to begin with The Screaming Skull?
- 28:01Speaker 10: Let's start at the beginning, that opening. That's the best opening.
- 28:05Speaker 10: The candle burning.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Oh, my God. It's like a still life painting.
- 28:09Speaker 3: It is.
- 28:09Speaker 10: It was pretty. And then just that booming tenor voice
- 28:13Speaker 10: comes on. The producers would like to let you know
- 28:18Speaker 10: that they will pay for your funeral because the screaming
- 28:22Speaker 10: skull is so terrifying.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I can't explain how much I love that kind of
- 28:28Speaker 3: nonsense that went into selling movies. It's probably a good
- 28:32Speaker 3: portion of the reason I am the movie geek I
- 28:34Speaker 3: am is that kind of crazy nonsense like that level
- 28:39Speaker 3: of just sheer.
- 28:42Speaker 4: An opening coffin with a sign that says reserved for
- 28:45Speaker 4: you in beautiful calligraphy They.
- 28:49Speaker 10: Should have shown a package of underwear and said, this
- 28:52Speaker 10: movie is so scary you will soil yourself and the
- 28:54Speaker 10: producers will buy you new underwear.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It's a little more 70s-esque. This is like 50s. They
- 28:59Speaker 3: couldn't handle that yet. That does kind of seem like
- 29:03Speaker 3: a John Waters thing, doesn't it?
- 29:04Speaker 10: They still do the same thing today. It's like, oh
- 29:07Speaker 10: my goodness, some little old lady for some reason went
- 29:11Speaker 10: in to go see this horror movie and had a
- 29:12Speaker 10: heart attack.
- 29:13Speaker 9: Someone actually fainted while watching The Green Inferno.
- 29:18Speaker 10: I saw that.
- 29:19Speaker 3: They've been planting that story for months and years.
- 29:22Speaker 13: No, it actually happened.
- 29:23Speaker 10: Did they interview the person?
- 29:26Speaker 9: It was just an older lady at a French film festival.
- 29:29Speaker 13: That's what she gets. She didn't know what she was watching.
- 29:32Speaker 9: The reason I've been talking about the Green Inferno, there
- 29:34Speaker 9: was like this Eli Roth interview on.
- 29:37Speaker 13: Satellite radio.
- 29:38Speaker 9: I want to- hate the guy, but I kind of
- 29:41Speaker 9: like the stuff he does usually.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I just don't like his acting. He's steer clear of acting.
- 29:51Speaker 3: So yeah, that level of just sheer salesmanship. It's the P.T.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Barnum of the movie screen, like that kind of stuff.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It's so awesome.
- 30:03Speaker 3: So, I mean, from there, like I said, when we started,
- 30:05Speaker 3: I'm like, it's all downhill after that. Like, you can't
- 30:08Speaker 3: come near as awesome as that was.
- 30:11Speaker 10: They start off on a strong foot, pardon the pun,
- 30:14Speaker 10: with the story that the wife had slipped on a
- 30:18Speaker 10: leaf on a rainy day. For some reason, she's just
- 30:21Speaker 10: hanging out gardening and was like, okay, I'm going to
- 30:23Speaker 10: go back up to the house. Slips on a leaf
- 30:26Speaker 10: and cracks her skull, and everybody, the priest is like...
- 30:30Speaker 10: It's just what happens here. People slip off leaves all
- 30:34Speaker 10: the time.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Darnedest thing. Freak leaf incidents. You know how that goes.
- 30:39Speaker 13: I think they did a really good.
- 30:40Speaker 9: I mean, I expected to really not enjoy this movie,
- 30:42Speaker 9: but I actually kind of enjoyed it.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I did too, actually.
- 30:46Speaker 9: I think they did a really great job at doing
- 30:48Speaker 9: the standard red herring movie because they didn't give too
- 30:52Speaker 9: much away that the husband... Should I reveal that part?
- 30:55Speaker 3: Spoilers! We already threw out the spoiler alert. It's your
- 30:57Speaker 3: own fault.
- 30:58Speaker 13: It was the culprit's.
- 30:59Speaker 10: Pulling the trigger on checkoff's gun huh yeah i mean
- 31:02Speaker 10: you would.
- 31:02Speaker 9: Have known i mean you knew what was coming from
- 31:04Speaker 9: the minute the movie opened it was very hitchcock-esque so
- 31:09Speaker 9: you know it's coming but um i think they did
- 31:12Speaker 9: a really good job at like the whole red herring
- 31:14Speaker 9: and loving but guilty.
- 31:16Speaker 15: Husband exactly hitchcock-esque because that's what as you said that
- 31:21Speaker 15: to our reference to him earlier but like as As
- 31:25Speaker 15: we started, you were like, haven't we watched this before?
- 31:27Speaker 15: And I'm like, no, I think it's just because the
- 31:28Speaker 15: whole thing feels like it's ripped off from Rebecca. Because
- 31:32Speaker 15: so much of it, really, and maybe it's just because
- 31:35Speaker 15: I love Rebecca, but that whole setup, at least.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I mean, later it veers pretty far away, but the whole,
- 31:42Speaker 3: they're not quite as rich. It's not quite the huge
- 31:45Speaker 3: staff in Rebecca, but you still have the husband returning
- 31:48Speaker 3: home with the new wife, what staff he has, which
- 31:52Speaker 3: is that one guy. still had a thing for the
- 31:54Speaker 3: old wife, and there's still the spirit of her that
- 31:58Speaker 3: literally hangs on a freaking portrait in the house.
- 32:02Speaker 13: A poorly done self-portrait.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I like that even they acknowledge.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my favorite thing. He was like, it
- 32:07Speaker 4: was a poorly done self-portrait. I was like, dang, knocking
- 32:10Speaker 4: on your old boo.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Okay, before we even get to that, first of all,
- 32:15Speaker 3: is it not kind of... in bad taste to bring
- 32:18Speaker 3: the wife back to that house anyway but like okay
- 32:21Speaker 3: it's your house whatever it's it's real estate it's an
- 32:23Speaker 3: investment i understand a little bit of that but like
- 32:26Speaker 3: they haven't even come in the door yet and he's
- 32:28Speaker 3: already talking about the way the other wife liked things
- 32:31Speaker 3: i'm like isn't that kind of gonna start things off
- 32:34Speaker 3: badly just relationship wise wouldn't you be like uh really
- 32:37Speaker 3: you're bringing her up now like we just got here
- 32:38Speaker 3: it's pretty skeezy Yeah, that's what I was saying. It's
- 32:41Speaker 3: so like Rebecca. But even more than that, to leave
- 32:45Speaker 3: the portrait of her hanging there, again, just kind of
- 32:49Speaker 3: douchey as a relationship move. Is that just me?
- 32:53Speaker 9: I don't think the portrait was hanging. I think Mickey
- 32:55Speaker 9: broke in the house and put it somewhere.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Mickey.
- 32:59Speaker 10: Mickey the savant. Well, first of all, I think the husband,
- 33:04Speaker 10: I don't know, Eric, right? That was his name? I
- 33:08Speaker 10: think Eric knew he was going to try to drive
- 33:10Speaker 10: this woman Ginny crazy from the beginning. And he was like, well,
- 33:13Speaker 10: better way to do it than getting inside her head
- 33:15Speaker 10: by taking her to the house that I may or
- 33:18Speaker 10: may not have murdered my ex-wife at.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I mean, later it comes to make sense when you
- 33:23Speaker 3: realize it's all sort of a plot. But regardless, still
- 33:25Speaker 3: kind of a dick move.
- 33:27Speaker 10: He's like, well, I got the priest. He's got my
- 33:29Speaker 10: back in this town. If he's got my back, everyone
- 33:32Speaker 10: will believe me. We only had, what, five or six
- 33:35Speaker 10: characters in the movie, and they did a lot with.
- 33:39Speaker 6: Those five or six.
- 33:39Speaker 9: I like that this movie doesn't over-explain itself. They kind
- 33:43Speaker 9: of mention things, but it's not hammered into your head.
- 33:47Speaker 9: He met her, and then she immediately went into some
- 33:51Speaker 9: type of mental institution for attempting suicide.
- 33:55Speaker 13: She lost her parents in a tragic water accident. She's
- 33:59Speaker 13: very wealthy. They mention all those things without feeding it
- 34:02Speaker 13: to you. It's just kind of like backstory.
- 34:05Speaker 9: I think they actually did a pretty good job at
- 34:10Speaker 9: setting that up without being like, he must have done
- 34:13Speaker 9: it for the insurance money because blah, blah, blah.
- 34:16Speaker 13: Or for inheritance money or whatever.
- 34:18Speaker 9: In one sentence of dialogue, you realize she's wealthy. She
- 34:25Speaker 9: has no family.
- 34:26Speaker 13: She's mentally unstable.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Do you feel like that's a difference just in the
- 34:31Speaker 3: time period? Were they better at doing that subtly back
- 34:34Speaker 3: in the day versus now they have to over-explain everything?
- 34:37Speaker 4: I think they over-explained a whole lot back in the day.
- 34:40Speaker 4: They just held the audience's hand like, all right, I
- 34:42Speaker 4: know you're not going to get any of this, so
- 34:43Speaker 4: I'm going to spell it out for you.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I don't know. I feel like a lot of modern
- 34:47Speaker 3: movies are just like, well, we know people are dumb.
- 34:49Speaker 3: We have to make sure we cross our T's and
- 34:52Speaker 3: dot the I's and make sure everybody knows by the end, oh,
- 34:55Speaker 3: this is exactly what we were doing.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I kind of feel the other way. I feel like sometimes...
- 34:59Speaker 3: they gave the audience a little more credit back in
- 35:01Speaker 3: the day. And now I think they have to spell
- 35:03Speaker 3: everything out because people are, I didn't understand.
- 35:06Speaker 9: I think in this movie they did. They were just so,
- 35:08Speaker 9: I was just really, the reason that I didn't dislike
- 35:11Speaker 9: this movie, it was hard to watch because it.
- 35:12Speaker 13: Was hard to see.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Again, it was very bad quality, which I feel like
- 35:17Speaker 3: adds to our cheesy thing we got going on here.
- 35:19Speaker 9: But they don't like go back and explain her death.
- 35:23Speaker 9: And he's just like, well, we'll never know if it
- 35:25Speaker 9: was an accident. If they were to remake this movie,
- 35:27Speaker 9: they would like, show a cutaway scene where she's like.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Falling and he pushed her and he killed her too.
- 35:34Speaker 9: And you know they would do that but they just
- 35:38Speaker 9: like left it well maybe probably but we'll.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Never know I think now we have to over explain
- 35:43Speaker 3: everything and go into backstory and go into flashbacks and
- 35:47Speaker 3: explain every detail where I feel like.
- 35:54Speaker 4: But apparently their budget was good enough to actually have
- 35:57Speaker 4: a female skull I could tell. I was like, that
- 36:00Speaker 4: is actually a lady skull. They got that part right.
- 36:03Speaker 3: They went out of their way.
- 36:04Speaker 4: They didn't get the part right where she, at one point,
- 36:07Speaker 4: throws the skull out of a window, two-story drop. And
- 36:12Speaker 4: then they were like, no, no, no. It would have
- 36:14Speaker 4: split into a million pieces. I'm like, no, that's a bone.
- 36:17Speaker 4: It's durable. It's not going to crack into a million pieces.
- 36:20Speaker 4: Especially on its own weight.
- 36:22Speaker 13: The mandible would have probably detached.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Yeah, detached, but... They're not even attached, really, anyway, usually,
- 36:27Speaker 3: unless we're doing it for, you know, science class purposes. Yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 2: But.
- 36:33Speaker 10: So we did have a ghost. This was a ghost story.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 36:37Speaker 3: With a screaming skull.
- 36:39Speaker 10: That skull scream. Well, it could have been the peacocks.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Uh-huh, yeah. I was thinking that earlier. I was like,
- 36:45Speaker 3: this is probably the only horror movie that ever used
- 36:48Speaker 3: the line, no, it was only the peacocks. I mean...
- 36:51Speaker 3: Seems like that's a very specific circumstance that you're going
- 36:54Speaker 3: to come into.
- 36:57Speaker 10: She has the same question as I do when he
- 36:59Speaker 10: uses that explanation. She says, what does that sound like?
- 37:03Speaker 10: And then he goes to the window and throws a bowl.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Like you don't know. We all have peacocks. Come on.
- 37:09Speaker 10: I bet they.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Cherry picked out peacocks. Like, crap, what kind of sounds
- 37:13Speaker 4: like a human scream? Like, peacocks. They'll have peacocks everywhere.
- 37:17Speaker 3: And then he whipped an ashtray at him or whatever.
- 37:19Speaker 3: You were trying to figure out what he threw. I
- 37:20Speaker 3: could not figure out what that thing was. He seems
- 37:22Speaker 3: like a smoker. He probably just whipped a big heavy
- 37:24Speaker 3: ashtray at a peacock. He's kind of a jerk.
- 37:28Speaker 9: I like that every time she looks out the window,
- 37:29Speaker 9: the peacocks who roam free are in the exact same spot.
- 37:32Speaker 9: And when she looked out there and they're not there,
- 37:34Speaker 9: she's like.
- 37:35Speaker 13: It must be true. So, you know.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Like, of course, they're... Maybe there's a tiny pin just
- 37:42Speaker 4: off screen. We can't see.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Well, in them, like, pretending that they are rich, which
- 37:47Speaker 3: they do a decent job because, again, and I double
- 37:50Speaker 3: check because I like what they mentioned.
- 37:51Speaker 10: Yeah, that's a.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Mid-50s Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Gullwing. I'm assuming even at the
- 37:58Speaker 3: time that wasn't cheap. Sure as hell would be expensive now.
- 38:01Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 3: It is a pretty awesome car.
- 38:02Speaker 13: I mean, just the way the doors open, you know, like.
- 38:06Speaker 9: Before I even saw the house, I was like, oh.
- 38:08Speaker 13: These people are rich.
- 38:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 13: They did a good job at, like.
- 38:12Speaker 3: For not showing you a huge mansion, like, yeah, peacocks
- 38:16Speaker 3: and a freaking Mercedes.
- 38:18Speaker 10: Great set and set pieces. Like, you really knew where
- 38:21Speaker 10: you were at at all times, no matter where the
- 38:23Speaker 10: cameras or the characters were running. You were like, oh,
- 38:26Speaker 10: I'm able to follow this. I know the layout of
- 38:29Speaker 10: what's going on here. And I think that that's... really
- 38:32Speaker 10: hard to do a lot of the times with horror movies.
- 38:35Speaker 9: The only thing I was super confused about is it's like,
- 38:37Speaker 9: so they're standing on the, the, the balcony and they
- 38:41Speaker 9: can look down and see the doors knocking and then
- 38:43Speaker 9: they have to go down the stairs and like go
- 38:45Speaker 9: through seven rooms to open the door. Like did the
- 38:48Speaker 9: staircase just twist around into another room?
- 38:50Speaker 3: And then on that weird space thing, was it just me?
- 38:54Speaker 3: Like at the end with the priest and he's just like,
- 38:56Speaker 3: and we're going back to that house. I'm like, aren't
- 38:59Speaker 3: you in the backyard of the house? Like, weren't they
- 39:04Speaker 3: behind them? Wasn't that the house? Like, I don't know.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Maybe Mickey ran down the street.
- 39:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 39:10Speaker 3: But it seemed like they were still in that same
- 39:11Speaker 3: spot where they shot all those other things that seemed
- 39:13Speaker 3: like it was on their ground.
- 39:14Speaker 13: I'm pretty sure they were, like, neighbors.
- 39:16Speaker 10: I guess.
- 39:16Speaker 3: That still seemed, yeah. Like, that house. I'm like, just
- 39:19Speaker 3: point to it. It's that one over there, right?
- 39:21Speaker 4: It took them a really long time to get there.
- 39:23Speaker 4: They were driving, too.
- 39:25Speaker 10: Mickey made it pretty quickly with his limp and all.
- 39:28Speaker 10: I wonder why they did that. Why did he need
- 39:30Speaker 10: the limp?
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah, why did he walk like Igor? To make him
- 39:32Speaker 3: extra creepy.
- 39:33Speaker 13: That's just your... That's just like a.
- 39:35Speaker 3: It's a trope.
- 39:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:36Speaker 4: He's just.
- 39:37Speaker 6: Because he looked like somebody's like dorm mate. It was
- 39:40Speaker 6: just like, let's just put this dude in, you know?
- 39:42Speaker 6: And then they're like, yeah, but that's just my dorm mate.
- 39:45Speaker 6: They're like, I don't know. We'll give him a limp
- 39:46Speaker 6: or something. We'll make him limpy.
- 39:48Speaker 3: He did just.
- 39:49Speaker 6: And not cut his hair. Yeah, totally.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:53Speaker 6: I think he's wearing PF flyers or something.
- 39:55Speaker 3: He's just kind of scruffy looking. He didn't really look like, yeah,
- 39:58Speaker 3: I mean, you'd think they'd really red herring him up
- 40:01Speaker 3: and like make him even more creepy and like, oh,
- 40:03Speaker 3: it's obviously got to be that guy.
- 40:05Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe he couldn't act very well. They're just like,
- 40:07Speaker 6: I don't know, just like limp or something.
- 40:09Speaker 10: He limped like a champ then.
- 40:13Speaker 3: He's scruffy looking, I'm telling you.
- 40:16Speaker 6: He's got long hair.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Well the thing I wanted to give him credit for
- 40:27Speaker 3: I think I think the most effective thing especially like
- 40:31Speaker 3: you get to that big scene in the house that's
- 40:33Speaker 3: pretty extended there of her like by herself that night
- 40:36Speaker 3: and like there's a noise what was that like it's
- 40:38Speaker 3: a lot of her like freaking out I think the
- 40:41Speaker 3: only thing that carries that like 20 minute span is
- 40:43Speaker 3: that score the score is really effective like it's it's
- 40:48Speaker 3: super well done for this type of movie it's cheesy
- 40:51Speaker 3: and melodramatic but like that's what you want in this
- 40:53Speaker 3: kind of movie. And I think it does that really well.
- 40:55Speaker 3: And then looking at it, it's, uh, Ernest gold. And
- 40:58Speaker 3: this is like one of the early things that he did. Uh,
- 41:01Speaker 3: he later goes on to win an Academy award for
- 41:03Speaker 3: the soundtrack to Exodus.
- 41:05Speaker 11: So nice.
- 41:06Speaker 4: I actually was going to compliment the score. I was like,
- 41:08Speaker 4: this is actually really interesting and good music. And then
- 41:10Speaker 4: it would like cut and like, she would start moving
- 41:12Speaker 4: and then it would do the like the stupid horn parts.
- 41:15Speaker 4: I was like, wait, what happened to that? Really cool.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 6: There was one shot, I think during that same sequence
- 41:22Speaker 6: that I've, that I've really, really thought was awesome because
- 41:24Speaker 6: it was so simple. It was a shot of the skulls,
- 41:27Speaker 6: skull like on the ground, but it was kind of cockeyed. Yeah.
- 41:31Speaker 6: And then there was a shot that was clearly from
- 41:33Speaker 6: the point of view of the skull because it was
- 41:34Speaker 6: so low and it was so far away toward the house.
- 41:37Speaker 6: And then it just, but it was crooked. The shot
- 41:39Speaker 6: was crooked and then it leveled out and your brain
- 41:41Speaker 6: just puts it all together. And I was like, man,
- 41:42Speaker 6: that was a fucking perfect shot.
- 41:44Speaker 3: That's the other thing in that same little sequence in the,
- 41:46Speaker 3: in the middle there with the music, like, The shots
- 41:49Speaker 3: of the camera that you're almost getting POV of we're
- 41:52Speaker 3: assuming the evil spirit or the ghost or the skull
- 41:55Speaker 3: or whatever. Yeah, it's like we're kind of, again, you
- 41:59Speaker 3: didn't really see a lot of weird POV at that point.
- 42:02Speaker 6: This one was, I mean, it was clearly the skull
- 42:04Speaker 6: because it was as simple as the camera being off kilter.
- 42:07Speaker 3: It's just tilting.
- 42:08Speaker 6: They didn't show the skull's head moving. They just showed
- 42:10Speaker 6: the scene level out, or the shot, and it was great.
- 42:13Speaker 3: So there is a little creative camera work in here.
- 42:15Speaker 3: There's a lot of it that's pretty.
- 42:16Speaker 6: I mean, that was the most creative it got, I think.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a lot of it that's pretty standard shot.
- 42:21Speaker 3: It could be made for TV kind of stuff, but
- 42:24Speaker 3: every once in a while, it got kind of creative.
- 42:26Speaker 10: I was legitimately spooked out at the point when she
- 42:30Speaker 10: opens the greenhouse, and then there's just... the figure with
- 42:34Speaker 10: the white dress is just like blurry enough to still
- 42:37Speaker 10: be like oh my god and then it just comes
- 42:39Speaker 10: running after with arms flailing.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Again i feel like this is when like the bad
- 42:43Speaker 3: quality prints kind of help like i think it it
- 42:46Speaker 3: makes it a little creepier sometimes i think yeah if
- 42:49Speaker 3: if they like hd'd this thing and i don't know
- 42:51Speaker 3: i'd probably be like oh that looks terrible but it
- 42:53Speaker 3: makes it a little creepier i feel like with just
- 42:55Speaker 3: like the weird creepy images I.
- 42:57Speaker 9: Can imagine if you were watching this in 1958 in
- 42:59Speaker 9: a theater, it would probably genuinely terrify.
- 43:02Speaker 3: You might die. You might die.
- 43:05Speaker 9: I can see how it would be very scary for you.
- 43:06Speaker 9: I mean, we've built up a tolerance of like scary,
- 43:09Speaker 9: horrible things.
- 43:10Speaker 3: We watch horrible things all day long on YouTube. We
- 43:14Speaker 3: don't even like go to the theater now. We watch
- 43:16Speaker 3: real world people do horrible things all day long.
- 43:18Speaker 9: I actually like to watch like, this is dumb. I
- 43:21Speaker 9: don't know what got me on this, but I was
- 43:22Speaker 9: watching like, real ghost footage on YouTube.
- 43:26Speaker 4: There's so much of it.
- 43:27Speaker 3: I can't say I haven't done that before.
- 43:28Speaker 13: There's so much of it.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there really is.
- 43:30Speaker 13: It's really fun.
- 43:31Speaker 3: The one in the hotel room where you see like
- 43:33Speaker 3: a weird little spirit come out of the room. Have
- 43:35Speaker 3: you seen that one?
- 43:36Speaker 13: No, I'll have to look that up.
- 43:37Speaker 3: It's kind of creepy.
- 43:37Speaker 4: I've seen all kinds of them.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Do I know that it's real? But is it a
- 43:41Speaker 3: creepy second when you're like, oh, it's a thing. Did
- 43:43Speaker 3: you see that?
- 43:45Speaker 4: I used to watch ghost adventures on the travel channel
- 43:48Speaker 4: all the time.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Do you want to take a ghost adventure?
- 43:54Speaker 4: Yes. Okay. I really liked that they didn't have the
- 43:58Speaker 4: skull floating everywhere. They literally just had a guy back
- 44:01Speaker 4: on camera like a bowling ball to chase the person
- 44:04Speaker 4: instead of having it fly through the air on a string.
- 44:07Speaker 9: I actually have a bowling ball with a skull inside it.
- 44:11Speaker 3: That does not surprise me.
- 44:12Speaker 10: That's pretty rad.
- 44:14Speaker 3: I feel like that's the part that probably most people
- 44:18Speaker 3: audiences today will have problems with. It's the big finale
- 44:21Speaker 3: there with the skull, like people just flipping skulls down
- 44:24Speaker 3: the stairs and wrestling in the water with the skull
- 44:27Speaker 3: that's one shade away from the octopus in your Ed
- 44:31Speaker 3: Wood movies. Go on, wrestle with him more. Throw the
- 44:34Speaker 3: tentacles up on you. It was him with a skull.
- 44:37Speaker 6: What I thought was kind of endearing about that part
- 44:38Speaker 6: was that a little part of me in my head,
- 44:41Speaker 6: because I know what I'm watching, I pictured the skull
- 44:47Speaker 6: just saying.
- 44:48Speaker 3: I just want to play, guys.
- 44:49Speaker 6: It just seemed like it was rolling around. Come back. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 6: it was kind of fun to just be like.
- 44:55Speaker 3: I'm not really that bad.
- 44:56Speaker 9: I'm just a skull.
- 44:58Speaker 4: You're afraid of me.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Doing those kind of voices as you're watching it reminds
- 45:02Speaker 3: me of the other. As you said there, you're like,
- 45:04Speaker 3: have we watched this before? And it did seem kind
- 45:07Speaker 3: of familiar. I'm pretty sure it is a Mystery Science
- 45:09Speaker 3: Theater feature. And I'm like, that's why. Because I got
- 45:13Speaker 3: into it and I'm like, Parts of this feel really familiar,
- 45:16Speaker 3: and I'm pretty sure I've watched it on Mystery Science
- 45:18Speaker 3: Theater years and years ago.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:21Speaker 3: So I'm sure they were like, hey, guys, I just
- 45:22Speaker 3: want to play.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Come back. Yeah.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Somewhere a crow is saying that.
- 45:25Speaker 6: What's crazy about old ones like that, though, is just, like,
- 45:28Speaker 6: if you could find the camera in the film, like,
- 45:32Speaker 6: you don't have to have, like, any kind of acting
- 45:35Speaker 6: at all. If you could just give it that vintage look,
- 45:37Speaker 6: there's going to be a handful of people sitting in
- 45:39Speaker 6: some coffee shop somewhere watching it going, like, just making
- 45:42Speaker 6: something out of it. You know what I mean?
- 45:44Speaker 3: Well again like they it's how you use it like
- 45:47Speaker 3: obviously as we said but they don't have tons of
- 45:49Speaker 3: money like all they had to get was a big
- 45:52Speaker 3: empty house but like you really don't even see much
- 45:54Speaker 3: of the house you get that one room and they
- 45:55Speaker 3: just keep cutting to people running down hallways and whatever
- 45:58Speaker 3: so it's like that one opening shot when they go
- 46:01Speaker 3: into the house and then like the grounds from the
- 46:04Speaker 3: backyard which they could have shot it like you know
- 46:06Speaker 3: a state park somewhere with a building and like So
- 46:09Speaker 3: there's so much of it that you don't really see
- 46:11Speaker 3: tons of money on the screen, but they make it work.
- 46:14Speaker 3: All you needed was to borrow your friend's Mercedes and
- 46:17Speaker 3: get some peacocks that you rented. They convey all this
- 46:20Speaker 3: money in this big set, but at the same time,
- 46:23Speaker 3: you don't see any of that. You only paid six
- 46:25Speaker 3: people to show up. It's a shoestring budget, and they
- 46:28Speaker 3: kind of make all that stuff.
- 46:29Speaker 10: Work pretty well.
- 46:30Speaker 6: Well, and now it's vintage. That's what I'm trying to say.
- 46:32Speaker 6: Back in the day, it was a total POS, but
- 46:34Speaker 6: now it's just some kind of cool.
- 46:37Speaker 3: And we like it. Yeah.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:40Speaker 4: And since so much of it took place at night, like,
- 46:42Speaker 4: it's very dimly lit. Like, I don't think there was, like,
- 46:44Speaker 4: any furniture in that house, like, besides that bed. Like,
- 46:47Speaker 4: they were like, we're not paying for that.
- 46:48Speaker 3: It did.
- 46:49Speaker 10: You don't need it.
- 46:49Speaker 4: It was movie set crap.
- 46:51Speaker 10: Yeah, they had it caught.
- 46:52Speaker 13: I like they explained it.
- 46:53Speaker 9: They're like, I don't remember what they said, but there
- 46:56Speaker 9: was a reason.
- 46:56Speaker 13: There was no furniture.
- 46:57Speaker 3: She liked it that way, my crazy dead wife.
- 47:01Speaker 9: I think they said she got rid of it or something, like,
- 47:04Speaker 9: right before she died.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 47:05Speaker 10: Yeah, a lot of the dialogue I couldn't catch.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Again, part of the high quality we're dealing with on
- 47:10Speaker 3: this DVD transfer.
- 47:11Speaker 13: I thought the.
- 47:12Speaker 9: Scenes where she'd heard a noise, and she went and
- 47:15Speaker 9: investigated and found the skull and went back to her room,
- 47:18Speaker 9: and it's just a shot of her face reacting to
- 47:21Speaker 9: that for a long time. That was a really bold move,
- 47:24Speaker 9: and I think it actually worked. I mean, they weren't
- 47:27Speaker 9: the greatest actors ever, but they also weren't the worst.
- 47:30Speaker 9: But that actually... was really awesome. You could see her
- 47:35Speaker 9: wrestling like, am I crazy?
- 47:36Speaker 13: Is this really happening? What do I do? Do I
- 47:38Speaker 13: just stay here and ignore it because I'm a crazed maniac?
- 47:41Speaker 13: Or do I run? You could really see that. I
- 47:44Speaker 13: think she actually did a really good job emoting that.
- 47:46Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 47:49Speaker 4: I enjoyed it.
- 47:50Speaker 6: Do you guys think she looks like Mary Steenburgen a
- 47:54Speaker 6: little bit? Is that that actress's name?
- 47:56Speaker 3: That is that actress's name. I didn't get that, but again,
- 48:01Speaker 3: I think Mary's a little more attractive.
- 48:04Speaker 9: There's an actress on some soap opera that was on
- 48:07Speaker 9: a random television show at the Laundromat, or a random
- 48:11Speaker 9: channel at the Laundromat, and she looks like her.
- 48:13Speaker 13: I don't know what soap opera it is.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Is it Mexican?
- 48:16Speaker 10: Days of Our Lives?
- 48:17Speaker 3: I can only hope it's Mexican. No.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Damn it.
- 48:19Speaker 13: It's like Days of Our Lives, or what's the other one?
- 48:21Speaker 3: If I'm going to a laundromat, I want them to
- 48:24Speaker 3: be playing nothing but Mexican soap operas.
- 48:25Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 6: That's what you go to a laundromat for.
- 48:27Speaker 10: Yeah, really.
- 48:28Speaker 3: I mean.
- 48:30Speaker 6: For Telemundo.
- 48:31Speaker 13: The Young and the Restless, maybe?
- 48:32Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 48:33Speaker 3: They canceled most of those shows. There's not a whole
- 48:35Speaker 3: lot of options anymore.
- 48:36Speaker 6: What, um, what other, uh, like old, like vintage horror
- 48:42Speaker 6: movies have you guys seen? Like, I feel like I've
- 48:44Speaker 6: seen some that were supposed to be the best ever
- 48:46Speaker 6: made and some that were, you know, clearly terrible.
- 48:49Speaker 3: And again, I, I've gotten so much more, again, why
- 48:53Speaker 3: I guess we keep doing this show. I've gotten so
- 48:55Speaker 3: much out of the ones that are supposed to be
- 48:57Speaker 3: super cheesy. And then we get into them and I
- 48:59Speaker 3: have so much fun with them. Like, sometimes just cause
- 49:02Speaker 3: they're kind of entertaining, but like sometimes I legitimately like
- 49:07Speaker 3: the one that we watched, um, blood mania, which we're
- 49:10Speaker 3: supposed to be making fun of. I'm assuming it seems
- 49:13Speaker 3: like something most people would goof on. Like, I think
- 49:15Speaker 3: that movie is awesome. Like I legitimately love that movie for, like,
- 49:20Speaker 3: its own, I don't know, its own merit. Like, it's
- 49:24Speaker 3: done in a really cool way. And it's one of those,
- 49:27Speaker 3: I want to go back and watch it now. And
- 49:29Speaker 3: it's supposed to be, you know, a shoestring budget and
- 49:31Speaker 3: just slapped together to sell as a double bill somewhere. But, like,
- 49:35Speaker 3: I legitimately like it.
- 49:36Speaker 6: You love shoestring really well. You like to make the
- 49:37Speaker 6: shoestring part of it work for you.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:40Speaker 3: So it's that kind of stuff. And this one also
- 49:42Speaker 3: kind of reminded me of the dementia 13. Yeah. That
- 49:45Speaker 3: was another one that was like family kind of trying
- 49:48Speaker 3: to screech over for money.
- 49:51Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 49:51Speaker 3: It was early. It was a couple of doing, um,
- 49:54Speaker 3: stuff for Gorman.
- 49:56Speaker 9: It kind of reminded me of that a little bit.
- 49:58Speaker 9: Just the, the shots, like the wide pan out shots.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Just like, yeah.
- 50:04Speaker 6: That one was kind of hard for me to follow.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Uh, Yeah, well, that one had more people and got
- 50:09Speaker 3: a little more convoluted because then they go into town
- 50:11Speaker 3: and all that other weird stuff. So it's, yeah, this
- 50:14Speaker 3: one was definitely a more stripped down, stick it with
- 50:16Speaker 3: these six people version. But yeah, it's that kind of
- 50:20Speaker 3: stuff that I've, you know, we just stumble across. That's
- 50:23Speaker 3: kind of why I like doing this, like just picking
- 50:26Speaker 3: one at random. Right, the glad bag. Let's see what
- 50:28Speaker 3: we get. And like, we may watch some terrible stuff.
- 50:31Speaker 13: Blood Feast.
- 50:32Speaker 11: Mama Dracula.
- 50:34Speaker 3: But like, that's one that again, like now, like I,
- 50:37Speaker 3: I had no idea what I was getting into when
- 50:38Speaker 3: we did that for the Halloween episode two years back.
- 50:41Speaker 3: And I'm just like, I will reference that like probably
- 50:44Speaker 3: once a week now. I'm just like, oh my God,
- 50:46Speaker 3: have you seen Mama Dracula? Like it's just, you stumble
- 50:49Speaker 3: across these old movies and it's like.
- 50:51Speaker 6: What's it called? Mama Dracula?
- 50:52Speaker 3: Mama Dracula starring Oscar winner Louise Fletcher in the titular role.
- 50:58Speaker 3: And it's ridiculous. Like it is, but it takes itself
- 51:02Speaker 3: so seriously sometimes that, And then other times it doesn't,
- 51:05Speaker 3: and it's slapstick, and it makes no sense. And it's
- 51:08Speaker 3: these kind of things that we just pick a random
- 51:11Speaker 3: old movie and just put it on and see what happens.
- 51:14Speaker 3: And I kind of love that. And that's, I guess,
- 51:17Speaker 3: why we keep coming back to these.
- 51:18Speaker 6: There's a movie, a Corman film called Buckets of Blood.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. I think that's classic.
- 51:24Speaker 6: It stars Dick.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Dick Miller.
- 51:27Speaker 6: Miller, yes. And I read the back of it, and
- 51:30Speaker 6: it was something like, a young man who works in
- 51:33Speaker 6: a like hip little Soho coffee shop or a little bar,
- 51:36Speaker 6: downtown bar, like ends up like, uh, his patrons become
- 51:43Speaker 6: his victims or something.
- 51:44Speaker 3: I've seen it.
- 51:45Speaker 10: It's really cool. Yeah.
- 51:47Speaker 3: And again, at the time it.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Was nothing to be awesome. It had all these great
- 51:51Speaker 6: keywords on the back. And when I watched it, like
- 51:54Speaker 6: I thought it was terrible.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Well, I, again, I think I liked it because it's,
- 51:58Speaker 3: at the time, I guess it was just what was
- 52:00Speaker 3: going on. It was all beatniks, but like you look
- 52:02Speaker 3: at it now and I'm like, I feel like it's
- 52:04Speaker 3: so ahead of its time for the weird little coffee
- 52:06Speaker 3: shop scene. And which I guess was all going on,
- 52:09Speaker 3: especially in New York at that point. But seeing how
- 52:12Speaker 3: much of that has like become just mass accepted at
- 52:16Speaker 3: this point. And you have people doing weird performance art
- 52:18Speaker 3: in a coffee shop across the country now. And like,
- 52:20Speaker 3: I feel like this was capturing it like at the
- 52:24Speaker 3: very beginning of that. And you get to see, like, again,
- 52:26Speaker 3: I think I like it.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Blueprint.
- 52:28Speaker 3: Maybe more for the snapshot of society than I do for,
- 52:32Speaker 3: you know, the plot as it goes on.
- 52:33Speaker 6: It's like a time capsule.
- 52:34Speaker 3: I think it's, yeah, it makes a great time capsule
- 52:36Speaker 3: of like, look at this weird little beatnik world that
- 52:38Speaker 3: was going on at this point in time and like
- 52:40Speaker 3: how the rest of society since then has started to,
- 52:43Speaker 3: you know, we shunned it for a while and now
- 52:45Speaker 3: we've just turned into it in our own weird way.
- 52:47Speaker 3: So I kind of like it for those aspects as well.
- 52:51Speaker 4: And, like, Fall of the House of Usher last year, like,
- 52:54Speaker 4: that's not a scary movie, but it's creepy, desolate, and, like,
- 53:00Speaker 4: artistically beautiful. And that might just be because I wrote
- 53:03Speaker 4: music for it. And so that's why I think it's
- 53:05Speaker 4: so artistic. But it was, like, the imagery and just the,
- 53:10Speaker 4: I don't know, it was really beautiful.
- 53:13Speaker 3: I think there's so much to get from old cheesy
- 53:15Speaker 3: movies that then you realize, maybe they're not so cheesy.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:18Speaker 10: So I don't know.
- 53:19Speaker 3: I like doing these. So everybody was on board with
- 53:22Speaker 3: this little experiment of ours.
- 53:25Speaker 10: I liked it. I'm a fan. Screaming skull will go
- 53:27Speaker 10: down in the books.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Truly, don't all screams come from a skull?
- 53:32Speaker 3: In theory.
- 53:34Speaker 4: Usually.
- 53:35Speaker 10: What came first, the scream or the skull?
- 53:37Speaker 3: When there's still peoples attached to them, but you know.
- 53:41Speaker 10: Yeah, this skull needed no vocal cords, and it shrieked.
- 53:45Speaker 3: It shrieked like a peacock.
- 53:48Speaker 13: Yeah, how would that even be accomplished? It's mystical.
- 53:54Speaker 4: I think the peacocks were behind it all along.
- 53:55Speaker 10: Yeah, I think her ghost was embodied in the peacocks.
- 53:59Speaker 10: It's half her soul and one half me.
- 54:01Speaker 3: It's only the peacocks.
- 54:03Speaker 6: Do you guys think that maybe it was originally called
- 54:04Speaker 6: the flaming skull and then they were like, They were like,
- 54:07Speaker 6: we're going to have to call the fire marshal and
- 54:11Speaker 6: hire some pyrotechnics dudes. And someone was like, let's just
- 54:14Speaker 6: make it the scream.
- 54:16Speaker 9: Probably because they didn't find it in the fire at
- 54:18Speaker 9: one point.
- 54:19Speaker 13: It's going to.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Be way cheaper.
- 54:25Speaker 10: Just have it scream at people.
- 54:28Speaker 9: I'm going to look up what peacocks actually sound like
- 54:30Speaker 9: because I don't believe that.
- 54:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 54:32Speaker 3: I've seen a house that they had so much money
- 54:35Speaker 3: they had their own peacocks. It was weird.
- 54:37Speaker 13: Did the peacocks scream?
- 54:39Speaker 3: I did not hear them scream. That I remember I
- 54:41Speaker 3: don't hear them scream, but it was annoying that they
- 54:43Speaker 3: had so much money they had peacocks.
- 54:48Speaker 5: Jenny.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Jenny. Jenny.
- 54:51Speaker 9: Honey.
- 54:52Speaker 10: Honey.
- 54:53Speaker 3: It's all right, darling. It's all right.
- 54:55Speaker 2: I'm right here.
- 54:56Speaker 3: I'm right here.
- 54:57Speaker 6: Just lie back.
- 54:59Speaker 5: That's right.
- 54:59Speaker 9: Just lie back.
- 55:01Speaker 5: It's all.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Eric, when you found me, What else was there?
- 55:09Speaker 16: What do you mean, what else?
- 55:12Speaker 1: A skull.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Jenny.
- 55:15Speaker 5: I know there was no skull. Of course not.
- 55:24Speaker 9: Mickey says Marion cries at night.
- 55:26Speaker 5: Why, that child is stupid.
- 55:29Speaker 13: Don't blame him. We both hear the peacocks.
- 55:33Speaker 5: He out of his love for Marion wishes the cry
- 55:35Speaker 5: to be from her. I, out of my sickness.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Now, darling, we've been all through that nonsense last night.
- 55:44Speaker 6: I don't think that was a peacock screaming. I mean,
- 55:47Speaker 6: I think it was, you know.
- 55:48Speaker 4: A human being, and they just show peacocks on screen.
- 55:52Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure. The excuse is the peacocks, because they
- 55:54Speaker 6: cut to a shot of the peacocks, but it doesn't
- 55:56Speaker 6: sound like a peacock to me. It's probably that same
- 56:00Speaker 6: dorm mate, like, who plays, what's his name?
- 56:02Speaker 4: They should have gotten that screaming goat.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 56:09Speaker 13: Oh God.
- 56:09Speaker 9: I watched, I watched like five minutes of footage of
- 56:12Speaker 9: screaming goats or goats that sound like people's.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, a lot of animals are weird, like cheap.
- 56:20Speaker 3: That noise sheep make is freaking creepy. Like just, yeah,
- 56:24Speaker 3: go watch them being sheared and screaming for their lives.
- 56:27Speaker 3: And it's, it's unnerving.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:30Speaker 9: Um, I have a friend, Sarah, who, works with sheep, like,
- 56:35Speaker 9: in the Wyoming or Alaskan countryside somewhere. I don't know.
- 56:38Speaker 13: But she, like, births them. She personally births them?
- 56:41Speaker 9: No, she, like, helps them.
- 56:42Speaker 3: That's how I'm picturing it.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 56:44Speaker 13: They need help.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 56:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yes.
- 56:47Speaker 9: And she said, like, the screaming is horrible. It will, like,
- 56:50Speaker 9: haunt your dreams. Especially when they're giving birth. Like, it's
- 56:54Speaker 9: just a horrible, terrible, terrible sound.
- 56:57Speaker 10: Isn't that ironic, then, that people count sheep to go
- 56:59Speaker 10: to sleep? They're just all screaming as they jump over
- 57:04Speaker 10: the moon.
- 57:07Speaker 4: And apparently foxes can sound like crying babies.
- 57:10Speaker 13: I've heard that.
- 57:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:13Speaker 3: And they do it on purpose.
- 57:15Speaker 10: Yeah, they just try to lure us in.
- 57:17Speaker 3: So you can be like, oh, there's a baby, and
- 57:18Speaker 3: then they jump on your face.
- 57:20Speaker 4: I think that's like a thing, like in the southwestern
- 57:22Speaker 4: United States. I think there's like a myth around.
- 57:23Speaker 3: I think that's folklore kind of stuff, yeah. Because don't
- 57:26Speaker 3: they say like some of the, actually that's, going back
- 57:30Speaker 3: to our Previous cryptid episodes, that's also what they say
- 57:33Speaker 3: Bigfoot does. He mimics a crying baby. That's one of
- 57:36Speaker 3: the weird noises they say he makes is it sounds
- 57:38Speaker 3: like a crying baby.
- 57:39Speaker 4: If there's a crying baby at night, don't check it out.
- 57:43Speaker 4: Just let him.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Could be a fox or a Bigfoot.
- 57:45Speaker 10: Or a peacock. Bigfoot is scary. That's what Bigfoot scares
- 57:49Speaker 10: me more than ghosts.
- 57:51Speaker 3: We definitely need to bring you back for more cryptid episodes.
- 57:53Speaker 13: You know the dingo story?
- 57:55Speaker 9: Apparently they reopened that because they thought the woman had
- 57:58Speaker 9: lied and then it turns out she didn't.
- 58:00Speaker 13: A dingo really ate her baby.
- 58:01Speaker 5: Damn.
- 58:01Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 58:02Speaker 10: I didn't know that, though.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 3: I'm trying not to do the voice right.
- 58:06Speaker 4: Reopening those wounds, man. They're like, no, we don't believe you.
- 58:09Speaker 9: I just thought that was a thing that, like, Elaine
- 58:11Speaker 9: said on 5-Sell, but, like, my new best friend.
- 58:16Speaker 13: Rebecca, Rebeka.
- 58:18Speaker 10: Releka.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Dent of a kind of fancy control.
- 58:21Speaker 9: She said that it happened, like, really close to her house,
- 58:24Speaker 9: and it was, like, a big news story, and then
- 58:27Speaker 9: when they reopened the case, it was, like.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Horrible, and.
- 58:31Speaker 3: Be careful. Dingoes will steal your babies. Or peacocks.
- 58:35Speaker 9: That was non-relevant. We were talking about animals and the
- 58:40Speaker 9: babies and the wild.
- 58:42Speaker 6: When I was a kid, cats in heat at night.
- 58:43Speaker 6: I used to always have to ask my mom.
- 58:45Speaker 10: Like, Mom, someone's getting hurt.
- 58:47Speaker 6: That's the cats in heat. It's alley cats. That's a
- 58:51Speaker 6: pretty terrifying sound. I don't know if you guys know
- 58:53Speaker 6: that one.
- 58:54Speaker 10: I've heard it.
- 58:55Speaker 4: In Germany, there's always somebody screaming at night.
- 58:58Speaker 3: It's just people dying.
- 58:59Speaker 6: It's just people dying.
- 59:01Speaker 3: That's what happens when you live in the rough neighborhoods.
- 59:05Speaker 6: Just leave it alone. Crying baby in pain, just forget
- 59:09Speaker 6: about it.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Neighbor being stabbed?
- 59:11Speaker 10: Eh, don't worry about it.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Just leave it alone.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Like that case study of that woman who was killed
- 59:15Speaker 6: and all those New Yorkers watched and no one even
- 59:18Speaker 6: made a phone call or anything.
- 59:20Speaker 3: I'd have to get my cell phone out.
- 59:22Speaker 6: Don't worry about it.
- 59:23Speaker 10: It's a lot of trouble.
- 59:24Speaker 6: The psychology majors out there will know exactly.
- 59:26Speaker 3: What I'm talking about.
- 59:27Speaker 4: The bystander effect.
- 59:28Speaker 3: I would think in this society now people wouldn't get
- 59:32Speaker 3: their phone out to make a call but they would
- 59:34Speaker 3: get it out to take video of the event all
- 59:37Speaker 3: right because that's usually how things go down.
- 59:39Speaker 10: Oh yeah that's a premise for vhs3.
- 59:44Speaker 9: In in new york is it more like an ingrained
- 59:46Speaker 9: fear of like the mafia or something like that like
- 59:50Speaker 9: like i don't want to i don't want to call
- 59:52Speaker 9: the police what if Bugsy Malone is behind this.
- 59:56Speaker 13: I don't want to be on his hit list.
- 59:57Speaker 3: The only thing scarier than ghosts is the mafia.
- 1:00:01Speaker 13: That's what I would think, but, you know, I don't know.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: Bigfoot's scarier than the mafia still.
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: That's a bold statement. I, you know, I saw a
- 1:00:12Speaker 9: Bigfoot once and it was quite scary.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: I think we've covered that.
- 1:00:17Speaker 10: Yeah, let's hear it.
- 1:00:19Speaker 9: Um, I was actually telling someone about this earlier today
- 1:00:21Speaker 9: because I was, um, We were at the place where
- 1:00:25Speaker 9: I saw it. It was like four years ago or so.
- 1:00:28Speaker 9: A friend and I were riding our bike along the
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: flood wall near the falls of the Ohio. And there
- 1:00:33Speaker 9: was like this big black shape kind of sitting near
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: the trail. But it was like pitch black. There's no
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: like street lamps or anything because we're just like basically
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: next to a forest. And I was like, what is that?
- 1:00:46Speaker 13: He's like, I don't know.
- 1:00:47Speaker 9: And there's these weird little pipes that come out of
- 1:00:49Speaker 9: the ground. And, you know, from a distance they look
- 1:00:53Speaker 9: like an animal or something like that. But then.
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: It's not.
- 1:00:57Speaker 13: So we just ignored it.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: And on the way back it had moved closer to
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: where we were. And I was like, no, that has
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: to be an animal.
- 1:01:03Speaker 13: Go see what it is.
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: And there was, like, a deer ran out of the
- 1:01:07Speaker 9: forest and, like, stopped. And, you know, like, the deer
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: was behind and was, like, probably the same height. And
- 1:01:16Speaker 9: this is the only way I know, like, how big
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: this thing was. The deer was about the same height
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: but much thinner. underneath so i knew it was like
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: bigger than a dog or something like that and then
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: it just kind of like slowly got up as my
- 1:01:27Speaker 9: friend like went to go investigate and as soon as
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: as as the thing got up and i was like
- 1:01:31Speaker 9: no come back and it just like walked into the
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: forest honestly i think it was probably a bear but
- 1:01:36Speaker 9: i mean it was bigfoot could have been a bigfoot
- 1:01:41Speaker 9: could have been i don't.
- 1:01:42Speaker 10: Know do you think that a bigfoot would venture this
- 1:01:44Speaker 10: far near the city or for that matter near indiana.
- 1:01:50Speaker 9: There are Bigfoot legends in the Charlestown State Forest. I've
- 1:01:55Speaker 9: heard those from multiple unconnected people. It's along the river,
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: so I figure a bear or a Bigfoot would be
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: following the path.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Of the river. Or canoeing down the river.
- 1:02:10Speaker 13: It was really weird.
- 1:02:13Speaker 9: We never actually found out what it was.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: So.
- 1:02:19Speaker 13: I said Bigfoot, bear, a giant sloth was another hypothesis.
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: A giant sloth. Those aren't too scary. Those are cute.
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: Have you seen sloth claws?
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: Yeah, those are.
- 1:02:30Speaker 10: Creepy looking, but have you seen little baby sloths just
- 1:02:33Speaker 10: chewing on sticks?
- 1:02:35Speaker 13: Sloth in pajamas?
- 1:02:41Speaker 10: Almost as cute as rolling skulls that just want to play.
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: Hey, baby skulls are actually super cute.
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: What is?
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: Baby skulls.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: The only cute thing about babies.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: They're adorable little skulls.
- 1:02:55Speaker 10: No, no.
- 1:02:56Speaker 13: In Transylvania, when we'd, like, find a baby, we'd be like, oh,
- 1:03:00Speaker 13: it's a baby!
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: And we'd be like, oh, but.
- 1:03:02Speaker 13: It's sad that it died.
- 1:03:05Speaker 9: But, I mean, they've been dead for a really long time,
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: so nobody cares.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: It makes it okay. Nobody loves this baby.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It's fine.
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: Or, like, the worst part is when it's, like, in
- 1:03:15Speaker 9: the back dirt. You're, like, digging and you're pulling out
- 1:03:17Speaker 9: random pieces of, like, baby.
- 1:03:19Speaker 16: Don't you hate when that happens it's just like filled
- 1:03:25Speaker 16: dirt they've just dug in the graveyard for so many
- 1:03:27Speaker 16: years that people have been buried and they know they're
- 1:03:29Speaker 16: buried there but nobody knows those people anymore let's just
- 1:03:32Speaker 16: turn them into a big dirt.
- 1:03:33Speaker 9: Pile and then it gets put on other graves so
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: lovely but not scary not creepy like we thought things
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: like that were not scary so again I failed with
- 1:03:46Speaker 9: the horror stories from our journey but sorry.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: All right, to wrap up, any final thoughts on The
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: Screaming Skull? It's awesome. It's awesome.
- 1:03:57Speaker 10: I liked it. Peacocks, slipping on leaves, fake slaps.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: What?
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Those sound effects weren't real?
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: No, they might have been. He just was giving them
- 1:04:08Speaker 10: little taps, and it was the loudest slapping.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Noise that you could hear. And it was like a
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: solid skin-on-skin slap, and the dude's got a big beard.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I mean, like, it would be different. I mean, granted,
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: he'd still, it'd be a nice thudding slap.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they're called a slapstick. That's why they
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: call that comedy slapstick comedy, because it's like a sound
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: effect paddle where two planks clock together. I will say
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: that the movie made me want to make a horror movie.
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: It looked pretty fun and easy, you know?
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: There is a shortage of weird people out there making
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: horror movies.
- 1:04:41Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good point. Not to overdo it, just
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: come up with not even really that solid of a story.
- 1:04:47Speaker 10: That's the thing.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: There's not a shortage of people making them, but people
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: making good ones? That's the key.
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: That VHS movie, I'm sure that was cooked up in
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: some coffee shop or dorm room. They took it to
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: a point where they're like, no, we've got to make
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: this sellable. We've got to cut a short and pitch it.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: Back to right after high school days, me and my
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: buddies used to always make really shitty horror movies. It
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: was a blast.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Well, I'm on board when we start putting this together.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: We can show it next Halloween.
- 1:05:22Speaker 6: You'll have to grow your hair out so that we
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: can have a line where it's like, we're going to
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: take you to the barbershop.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: So I can point out there, you're a freaky long hair.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: You just want to remake the screen.
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: You might have to fake a lamp.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: You're going to threaten to commit me in a mental
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: institution for being depressed.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: We were going to do that anyway, though.
- 1:05:38Speaker 13: It's a matter of time.
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: I think the ironic thing is that the husband, his
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: hair wasn't any shorter. It's just like slicked back different. So, like,
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: really all Mickey needed was hair gel.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Product. That's what he needed.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Well, I think the inaugural Meltdown Night at the Movies
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: has gone well. So I'm glad that it was the
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: way we kicked off our Halloween episodes this year. And
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: I think maybe we'll have to put some more together.
- 1:06:06Speaker 10: Let's do it.
- 1:06:07Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Go team.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Go team.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: One, two, three.
- 1:06:12Speaker 10: Go team. Team Meltdown.
- 1:06:14Speaker 13: Oh, I said it too fast.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: I only assumed that's how that would go.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us for this spooky episode. Otherwise,
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: that about does it. We will return next time. Same
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: geek feed.
- 1:06:26Speaker 10: Thanks for listening.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: We'll be right back. It's going again. It's going again.
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: It's going again. It's going again. We'll be right back.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: We'll be right back. I have to have physical therapy
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: for my last haunted.
- 1:09:08Speaker 13: House visit.
- 1:09:09Speaker 10: That's a problem.
- 1:09:11Speaker 13: Maybe we.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: Don't want to hang out.
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: Well, as long as we don't go with my friend,
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: I think we'll be okay.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Did she get really scared and push you?
- 1:09:24Speaker 9: She got really scared and was running from the chainsaw guy.
- 1:09:27Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:09:27Speaker 9: And tripped and also had me by my hand, so pulled,
- 1:09:31Speaker 9: tripped me and pulled me on top of her and
- 1:09:33Speaker 9: was off the way. And I landed on my shoulder.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:09:37Speaker 9: I don't know what I did to it, but I
- 1:09:39Speaker 9: can't put my bra on myself anymore.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: It's terrible.
- 1:09:43Speaker 13: I hate it when that happens. I don't have full
- 1:09:45Speaker 13: range of motion.
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: For my arms.
- 1:09:48Speaker 13: It's been like a week.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: And a half.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Well, you're going to have to beat the hell out
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: of it.
- 1:09:53Speaker 13: I've thought about it.
- 1:10:03Speaker 11: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
