- 0:00I need to say the All Blacks are looking good. This is our DNA. We talk about South African DNA a lot, Victor, but finally, this is how we want to play. Why are we sending guys off that are trying to get to the ball? I've never seen an intercept.
- 0:16court with two hands. It's always one hand going out. Why do they want yellow cards for that? You've now got your third or fourth first five, Victor. So all of a sudden you can see the South African side that have probably 36 test players now. Our scrum at this moment is just mad. Still a weapon for South Africa. Based on what you've seen, where do you see South Africa, Victor? And where do you see the All Blacks, JK? A lot of people...
- 0:44We're thinking, listen, this is going to be a clean sweep. I don't know what friends you're hanging out with, but you've obviously got no New Zealand mates over there because there's no one talking about it. There's no group of my friends talking about a clean sweep, my friend.
- 1:01Right, welcome to Rugby Rivals. And we've got two people in quite good moods because their team's both won, so that helps the show. Yeah, I'm just wondering where Trimby's gone, mate. Like, he's just hiding. I saw him on Instagram, Victor, and he's walking through some mountains somewhere, but basically he's just ignoring us, I think. Yeah.
- 1:23I'm feeling sorry for him. I think he might have taken some abuse this morning. So it's maybe better that he's not yet. His team aren't looking too great at the moment. So, yeah, I think he's hiding away. I think, you know, at one stage, Ireland was sort of, you know, one of the top teams in the world, and he was pretty keen to come on the show every week. And this year hasn't been so keen. He's disappeared. He's disappeared.
- 1:52Yeah, Ireland were like, I think there was a moment when it could have been a lot worse, I thought. I saw some dialogue, Victor, coming out of Ireland, and there was a couple of sort of, there was a couple of pundits sort of saying, wow,
- 2:07you know, it could have been worse. And someone else said, nah, we nearly got back into it. But when Jacobson got sent off, that was, I thought that was a moment when if we score there, it was going to be a terrible day for them. But then they sort of rallied it. I mean, the nicest thing for me is actually the way that the All Blacks are playing. I mean, I'm sitting there thinking...
- 2:27This is how, this is our DNA. We talk about South African DNA a lot, Victor, you know, but finally after a while I'm going, wow, this is our DNA. This is how we want to play. I think it's been so long since we played like that that the second half sort of reflected the fitness levels that you need to be able to play like that for 80 minutes. It's not hard. Like the boys look pretty knackered by the end of it, but it was just...
- 2:56I thought it was just a really great reflection of how Dave Rene wants this team to play, and the players seem to be enjoying it. So I was stoked, mate, absolutely stoked. Yeah, maybe just to go back to Ireland firstly, before I compliment your All Blacks. I think we've seen it in the past year, and that is actually with Ireland and with Lensdaq.
- 3:20Whenever they come up against a team that really brings the physicality to the gain line, to the breakdown, even to the set piece, then they just fall away. If you think about their losses against the big French sides, Bordeaux, the Luz in the last few years.
- 3:37What's the other one? La Rochelle. It's every time there's a big strong backer forwards that just dominate them on the game line. And then they can't get into the attacking shape. Their defence falls away. And I mean on Saturday as well, they were half in between. Are they coming off the line? Are they closing from the outside? And they just gave New Zealand too many options, opportunities. But I need to say the All Blacks are looking good. I must say I really enjoyed the game.
- 4:05You talk about that DNA, they're getting the ball into that outside channels where they play with a lot of options. I actually did side entry yesterday and I did some of the attacking clips of the All Blacks. And just the motion that they've got from behind backs working to get into position to be an attacking option is unbelievable. But the one thing that people normally miss is...
- 4:30with the All Blacks. They see this attacking shape, but it's the intensity at breakdown. When they hit that breakdown, they clear pass the ball, they're opening up those gaps. Then they get front foot ball, then they get quick ball, and I mean, then the backs can do whatever they want. I think...
- 4:48I think one thing that I'm liking is the team actually getting better every week. We spoke last week, Victor, about the defensive line speed. And like you say, it starts with the physicality. It starts with the initial impact, the initial tackle. And I think this is where...
- 5:05This is a lot of things that people don't see about South Africa. It's just that brutality at the contact time and winning that extra three yards. If you win that extra three yards, then your backs are on the front foot. And I think that's what the All Blacks...
- 5:24want to bring a bit of physicality at their initial impact. And then I also thought that the line speed was better, Victor. So the thing for me is I'm seeing improvements every week, but I also enjoy that. You know, I also enjoy the movement off the ball. So...
- 5:40Getting back to Ireland, I think there's critical errors. Some of their big guys are making critical errors. I thought Ringrose especially. When the All Blacks start like that, it's hard to stop them, right? So they dominated the first 12 minutes. They were really on fire. But then...
- 5:58Ireland sort of got into their game a wee bit, and I think Ringrose just dropped the ball. There was a couple of their guys that just under pressure were just dropping the ball, and so they got absolutely no rhythm. And that's the thing I've noticed, the big thing I've noticed about –
- 6:15you know, Islanders, they used to hold the ball for 32 rucks and no one would make a mistake. They were so organized. That doesn't seem to be there anymore. And so, you know, they didn't really put any pressure for the Six Nations sort of runner up or whatever they were. Did France win it? I think France won it. You know, they just didn't put any pressure on the All Blacks at all, really. It was a really, really poor performance from a top three side, top four side.
- 6:43Yeah, I think they were better in the second half, but in that first half was way too many errors. I mean, even Gibson Park, he never makes mistakes. He was two, three passes where there was maybe opportunity in the blind, then the passes just behind the back. Now, those are things you don't see, but again, it's that pressure that the All Blacks put them under. At breakdown, defensive breakdown, just that physicality.
- 7:05And I think still, and I know he's been out of the game for two, three years, I think a guy like Johnny Sexton, even if it was slow ball, he was a little bit on the back foot, he could still take the ball to the game line and almost recreate that momentum.
- 7:22With Fabregas, I'm not sure he can do it. The moment they're on the back foot, he just goes deeper. He's not really a threat. And he doesn't give you those options that a guy like Johnny Sexton did give you, where he just takes the ball to the line. He makes those decisions in the face of the defence.
- 7:39almost regained momentum for them. We talked a lot about the All Blacks moving the ball and stuff like that, but it was probably one of the biggest packs that they've picked for a long time. With Tupovai at blindside, Patrick Tupoloto and Josh Lord as a big, big body. They also kicked more than they've kicked in the first two games.
- 8:05So they probably had a better balance of game than maybe they played in the first couple of games. Is that fair? Can I just come in? The one guy for me, and he's been in and out the All Blacks, and I never understand why. But Tui Piloto is, I think, so important for this pack of the All Blacks. The way he carries the physicality that he brings, just the power that he brings to the mall as well. He always put you guys on the front foot.
- 8:35When the Blues won super-rap, he was that same enforcer, just getting you on the front foot. Very difficult to stop with ball in hand. And then I do enjoy the combination of the loose forwards. I think Artie is an eight. He loves the speed of the back of the scrump. He links up with plays. He can still be in at the breakdown. And I think you found your balance in the loose chair as well.
- 9:01I think, Ricardo, to answer your question, with the Rivals Tour coming up, you've got to match South Africa up front. You've got to match them for physicality. You need to be brutal, and we need big men. And I think it's probably impossible to have as many big men as South Africa can have, but you've got to match that physicality. And I'm pretty sure they've got one eye on South Africa with their selection, especially with Tupo.
- 9:30I've had the privilege to spend some time with Tupo, and he is an absolute gem of a guy. He calls the line outs, really smart rugby player, smart man, very quietly spoken, but also got that little bit of enforcer in him. So if we're going to Africa and want any chance to win, we've got to match them up front. And that means, like when you watch that Welsh game, Victor, I don't think they stopped you.
- 9:59over the advantage line at all all night, you know. And if you don't do that to South Africa, they're going to get a roll on. The only way you can stop those big men is actually smacking them up front and so that they can't run onto the ball at 100 miles an hour. So the combination I agree with, I think the loose forward combination, we've got plenty of options. And then I also think that Patrick has probably been...
- 10:23really unlucky with injuries, Victor, so he's never really had a, you know, had a flow on playing for the last few years. He didn't start Super Rugby this year till round 10 or 12 or something. But you're right, he's a big man, he's got great feet, he runs hard. And I think that's why they're playing him. Him and Tupo, I think, will stay there. I think it's a good combination. Also, Victor, something that you'll enjoy, gives you so many more line-out options, you know.
- 10:52You've got a really big man in the loose forward. So, yeah, I think the combination's good. J.K., you did brush over it, but there wasn't a lot of happiness from Irish fans over Jacobson's card. They thought the colour should have been different, and there was also a lot of people calling for Quintupaya's penalty when he tried to, I thought, catch the ball, but, you know, he was penalised for knocking it down.
- 11:22So there was a lot of talk after the game saying that maybe the All Blacks got the rub of the green when it came to dishing out cards.
- 11:30Well, I think the Irish should re-look at themselves because if they think that would have changed the game, they're kidding themselves. They're way off the mark at the moment and they need to look at other stuff rather than that. But Jacobson, I think the mitigating factors, well, the Irish were offside. And when he came in, his hand got caught. So he was bringing his hand up and his hand got caught on a guy who was offside. So I think that was enough mitigating to make it a yellow. And look, I've...
- 11:59The intercept law, Victor, I don't know what you think, but I just don't get it. I mean, I just don't understand it. I mean, you had a go at us last week about that one, you know, the one against Italy or wherever it was, you know, and then the other night you go, well, what is the rule? What is an honest attempt, you know? I mean, if you're a rugby player, then you're going for the intercept and just look like you're making an honest attempt because that's going to keep you on. But, yeah, I've no idea about that one.
- 12:27Yeah, I must say, I think the Irish are dreaming. I thought it was maybe only just a penalty, Jacobson, going in there.
- 12:36He went for the clean, he was really low. I mean, the Irishman were offside. And as he wanted to go in for the clean, the guy just stood up and he had to get up. And unfortunately, I don't think there was any intent of hitting the face. Yes, he wanted to be aggressive at the break time, like you get taught as a little kid, you need to climb in there. But I think that guy that stood up right in front of him before he made contact just made everything look worse. So I thought he was actually unlucky to get the yellow.
- 13:05And then on the intercept, I just think why are we sending guys off that are trying to get to the ball? Yes, sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't. And don't tell me, I've never seen an intercept caught with two hands. It's always one hand going out, grabbing it, and then the other hand joins.
- 13:26Again, why do they want yellow cards for that? Give the penalty if you want, or give a penalty try if they thought the try would have been scored and he knocked it on with intent. So I just think that's probably the worst law in rugby for me.
- 13:43Well, I think we need to start re-looking it, and I'm gonna harp on, and I always harp on about this. We need to re-look at how we are penalising. I'll come back to this. Why don't we just give away some points? If you try to go for an intercept in the 22, and you don't pull the intercept off, then it's two points to the opposition. It just goes on the scoreboard. That'll stop all the intercepts in the 22.
- 14:10Stop three penalties. Why are you not allowed to go for intercept? That's what I don't understand. That's always been part of the game. It's always happened. I mean, the one team is attacking, change the game. Someone see an opportunity, they go for the intercept. So, I mean, in the old days, it was if you knock the ball down and that's a downward pressure, then there was a penalty. Now the guys are knocking it up and they almost get penalized. I just don't understand where they got this law from. It's just stupid.
- 14:40I think the easiest way to sort it out is agreeing with Victor. Yeah, no, I was going to say the easiest way to sort this out is to make Victor in charge of referees. That's it. Let's do it. No more yellow cards. Bring some physicality back, and we'll see something to Sebs. You are the only person that thinks that Jacobson shouldn't have been penalized. Well done. Well done.
- 15:07No, I think a penalty because he did make contact with the face. But I mean, remember that guy's not allowed him to steal because he's one of the Irish offside. So he really just went and if that guy didn't, I mean, he was as low as he could be. And the guy in front just stood up and he had to lift his level. So there was no intent to that.
- 15:27Yeah. Before we get on to the South African performance against Wales, I just want to talk about the Argentinian-England game. There seems to be so much animosity between those two sides, you know? Well, obviously between those two countries. I mean, they've been at war together. So, you know, that was a really passionate, aggressive, angry game of sport.
- 15:55Yeah, well, it's called the Falklands War, obviously. They still remember that. And Contopone actually walked out of the press conference. Did you read that, Ricardo? Because the English were singing in the changing room or something. Yeah, there's always been animosity, and I like it. I think a bit of animosity against...
- 16:16rivalry. Well, I don't like it spilling off the field. I think shake hands afterwards and sit down and have a beer. I hope that happened with both sides. But the English can annoy you at times. When they win, they'll do a lap of Twickenham. They're either superheroes in the papers or they're in the gutter. So
- 16:43Yeah, I just think that there's always been that rivalry and it started with the war, probably, with the Falcons' war. And so, yeah, I don't mind it as long as it doesn't spill off the field. Yeah, it's interesting. I saw Courtney Laws came out and he said he thought the English boys should just focus on the game. They've got the skill set, they've got everything to have been better if they just focus on the game. And he was one of the...
- 17:10more physical England players in his time. So it's interesting, but I think for the Southern Hemisphere, there's probably two teams that are really disappointing at the moment, and that is Fiji and Argentina. I thought they'll do much better at home.
- 17:28They haven't had a great start to this Nations Cup. And we all know there's one big game in them somewhere. Someone is going to get beaten by them. But their consistency just isn't there at the moment. And sometimes if you don't perform on the field, you also get frustrated. You get into all these things where you think you can pick yourself up by being probably overaggressive in games. So it can be a little bit of that as well.
- 17:57Did you watch the last try, JK, the last try, which obviously Argentina thought they'd scored. At one stage, the referee thought he'd scored, and then they got overturned by the TMO. What did you think at that moment? I didn't see it, mate. So we went through it yesterday, and I'll show you in South Africa, and I think it might have been a penalty try. There was two high tackles.
- 18:26on his way to score the try. And I mean, if it's a high tackle, it's foul play. And if it's foul play and it stopped him from scoring a try, then it should be a penalty try. And I thought the first one over the shoulder was high and then Slate coming in with a shoulder on the next. So, two high hits.
- 18:47Well, let's get onto the South African performance. So, you know, obviously Wales, not one of the form teams at the moment, probably the last 10 years. Are you happy with how the South Africans turned out, Victor? Yeah, I think the one area where we're very proud of ourselves is our defense. And I mean, against Scotland, that was just dismal. It was so bad. I haven't seen a defensive effort by South African team like that in for a long time.
- 19:14I think for them the focus was on getting the defence right, making sure the connections are there, getting off the line, being physical, having the work rate. And I think the biggest thing for them will be that zero that Wales got. So they will be very proud of it. I heard it was a very difficult day. I went down at the game. The ball was really slippery. So it wasn't easy to play with ball in hand.
- 19:44I mean, our scrum at this moment is just mad. I mean, what we've done with them at scrum time, and I mean, that's our, I think our third choice tight head that played. So, yeah, I think
- 20:01Scrum is still a weapon for South Africa. We will see where we are against New Zealand when they come over. But the rest, the physicality was there. Four youngsters getting opportunity to play their first test caps. They all came through nicely. So I think we'll be happy. I'm just going to show you
- 20:21I got a message from one Victor Matfield about the under-20s winning as well, just to make my day. And I can't really say anything, but, yeah, well done. So I do know what you said. Double world champion, double under-20 champions, and sevens champions. Is that everything that South Africa is doing at the moment?
- 20:45I know what you said, Victor. You don't have to remind me. You don't have to remind me that you are. But I think when you look at this Nations Cup, right, one of the big things that I've noticed is if you're going to win the World Cup next year, then you've got to have a depth of squad. And I think there's three teams. And I wouldn't have said this last year just because I don't think
- 21:10you know, Razor Razor was really tight with his starting 15 and we didn't really see a lot of players played after the team won, whereas I think if you look at South Africa, I mean you've now got your third or fourth first five victor, you know, young guy what was his first test?
- 21:32Was this first test? Yeah. And played with some real finesse. Another lock, another big lock, you know, makes his debut. A winger makes his debut. So all of a sudden you can see this South African side Ricardo that have probably 36 test players now. Now,
- 21:52It'll be interesting because I don't think South Africa being put under any real pressure, no pressure whatsoever, for sustained periods of time. I think they put themselves under pressure against Scotland by just going to sleep and not tackling. So I think, and when you look at France, you know, France, I think, with a team...
- 22:13of the Northern Hemisphere once again. They came down, left 10 players out. They swapped players around. You know, they played Intermac at 10, Jelly Bear, fullback, you know. I think you're doing all those things to say, right, next year, if we get injuries in certain positions, it doesn't matter. And I think that's what South Africa's...
- 22:34been amazing. I mean, Wales are poor. I don't know what, I don't know how long, I mean, Wales remind me of Scotland, um, sort of 15 years ago where Scotland were just shit. Um, and they had to rebuild. So Wales have got a big job. Um, but that's what I think about South Africa. I didn't really take too much notice of the result because I just don't think Wales are that good. But what they have done is they've built a massive, um, squad.
- 23:00Look, I mean, and Scotland now third best team in the world. So, you know, that shows how you can turn it around. You could see Scotland's difficult yet or Ireland. Yeah. Do you think? Yeah. So they might not be third. I'll say maybe fourth.
- 23:15That's nice. Does Farrell come under some pressure, Victor? You know, he's had a bit of a honeymoon ride. You know, everyone says, fantastic coach. I don't know, does he start coming under some pressure? Because I don't think they've improved since that big loss to us in the World Cup.
- 23:36semi-final. Whether they're just missing Sexton, but surely your job is to replace those guys and then get some big wins. Has he had any big wins since he's been coach? Yeah, it's difficult. Probably the British Ice Lions probably saved him a little bit although it's not Ireland, but I mean I don't think they've won six nations after the World Cup. They haven't won
- 23:59a lot of big games against the top teams. So it'll be interesting to see if he comes a bit under fire. It'll probably all depend on what happens when they get back home end of the year in November with the Nations Cup. Can they upset South Africa? Can they get a win over Australia?
- 24:19whoever's going there. So we'll have to wait and see. Look, let's stop talking about the Nations Cup because there's really only one thing that matters this year, isn't there? And that's the... The warm-ups are done. We're through the warm-ups now. Now the real game is coming. Now the real game is coming. Based on what you've seen in the Curtain Razor, the Nations Championship, where do you see South Africa, Victor, and where do you see the All Blacks, J.K.?
- 24:49Yeah, I think we're happy. We know what we've got, we know how we want to play. We haven't seen all our players playing in the same game. I mean, a guy like Sasha still needs to come back, can have a big impact in this game as well. I mean, Eben needs to come back, Lourdes Jaaghe needs to come back. So I think we can just pick a stronger side.
- 25:17Yeah, going in, I think we're still the favorites. I like putting New Zealand as the favorites, but I mean, this South African side at home must be the favorites going into it, but I think where a lot of people
- 25:32We're thinking, listen, this is going to be a clean sweep, 4-0 for South Africa. I think it will be very difficult to beat New Zealand four times in a row. That was you. Victor, Victor, like, I don't know what groups of friends you're hanging out with, but you've obviously got no New Zealand mates over there because there's no one talking about it. There's no group of my friends talking about a clean sweep, my friend.
- 25:55i don't understand a week ago you were going on about you you allowed to lose as long as you give players opportunity one win against ireland now it's like you're the heroes of world rugby again no i think i think um to answer to ignore victor and answer your question ricardo is i think um we're seeing a style of rugby now that will put teams under pressure
- 26:21And when I spoke about it before, I don't think anyone's put South Africa under pressure in this Nations Cup. I think they've brought pressure on themselves, but sustained pressure. And I'm really looking forward to the Clip Drift moment because I've got two. But I think what we need to say to all the referees is we cannot slow the game down during this rivals tour.
- 26:43Right. Because the All Blacks want to play a fast game of rugby and we need to be able to let them play that. If the game is slowed down. Now, the other thing we need to do to compete is our scrum needs to be at its absolute best. I mean, you saw you saw the South African scrum once again on the weekend.
- 27:06So we can't let South Africa go to penalty, kick to the corner, maul, and get that game going when they're under pressure. The thing I like about the All Blacks at the moment is the way we're playing, if we can continue to refine that, we'll put teams under real, real pressure. And so that's what I'm looking forward to. Because I'll ask you this, Victor, have South Africa been put under pressure
- 27:35really in the last 12 months? No, we haven't. But I mean, you're only as good as your positions. And I think the South African team is just at such a level that it's very difficult for anyone to put them under pressure. I think, like I've said before, I think South Africa, France, and New Zealand is just in a different level at the moment. I think they're a step ahead of everyone else.
- 28:01So, yeah, we'll have to wait and see. But I think we can say the same about the All Blacks. I mean, the one thing you haven't been able consistently to get right is to play against this rush defense. And again, you haven't faced it so far this year. So it's nice to go into the outside channels. I actually showed a few clips yesterday in our show where
- 28:21Ireland, their winger is hanging back, giving you opportunity. South Africa, the guy will be up there. You'll be in the face. It will be a completely different picture that they see when they attack against South Africa. So it's easy to go into the outside channels if the guys are just giving it to you. Against South Africa, you'll have to go either over the top or the kicking game will need to get into play. So it will be a different picture when you have ball in hand. Yeah, I think...
- 28:51I think for me, the nice thing is, I don't think this all black team has hit its straps yet. I think we've seen pieces of it. And like I said, I think the second half against Ireland was a fatigue thing. I think to play the style of rugby that we wanna play, you need to play it. You can do all the fitness work you want, but actually translating that onto the field means you've gotta play like that for 80 minutes. Because, you know,
- 29:21You've got to have the courage to run it from your 22 with three minutes to go. Like I remember a great game of rugby when I was in the stands way back where we won in the last minute because Ma Nonu scored and we ran it from our 22. You've got to have the energy for that. So this All Black team hasn't hit its straps yet. So that's what excites me. And I think you're right, Victor. I don't think either side has really been tested yet.
- 29:49I think we probably had a little bit of a better preparation just because of France. I think France really put us under the pump, and it was our first test. But I just can't wait, mate. I just cannot wait. This is going to be absolutely epic. I was listening to Dave Rene's... Well, you're playing Weeks Street. Are you playing one more game? No, I don't think so. No. No. We're playing Argentina. No.
- 30:12No, but we do have a slightly different approach in that we've got three or four warm-up games before the tests. So, you know, I mean, there's two ways of looking at those games. Obviously, the All Blacks will be mixing up their squads, but that will give them the opportunity to play in South African conditions and get used to the South African way of playing. It will also give the South Africans, because, you know,
- 30:37we all know that Rossi is going to be talking to the various coaches saying, I want you to test this out. I want you to try and push them here. I want, you know, so, you know, the South African teams, I'd imagine will be putting the All Blacks under the pump in those provincial games. So how important, how do you approach those games, Victor? Yeah. It's interesting for the franchises. I really hope that Rossi,
- 31:04release some of the fringe players. I mean, he's got a squad of 35, 36. And if we can get some of those fringe players to come back and play in those games, it will be just so good for the unions in South Africa. Because I think if they don't have that players, I don't know if they can really compete with the All Blacks. And we want those games to be close.
- 31:29I mean, what an opportunity for so many of these players that maybe never play against the All Blacks. Now they stand there, they see those black jerseys. I mean, it's ultimate to play against the All Blacks and they get the opportunity to do it now. So I think they'll go out, they'll be fired up, but it's going to be difficult for our unions, especially with a lot of the guys in the springboard camp to really compete.
- 31:54I think the interesting thing for us, Riccardo, once again, listening to Dave Rennie's press conference when I spoke to him about it, he's taking 44 players. And I've often spoke about this, playing every three days for us was normal, Riccardo. It's how we used to tour. So we were used to packing up our bags, getting on planes and going, but the coaches and the players just don't know that anymore.
- 32:22And that's the interesting thing. I remember when Clive Woodward came down with the Lions and he left the test team at home and some people travelled and some people didn't and it sort of split the team in half. I think from a logistics point of view, it'll be really hard on the All Blacks just because they don't know how to play midweek. Yeah.
- 32:47I think players like Bodie will be happy. You know, Bodie, here's our world-class number 10, and he is a world-class number 10, and he hasn't even been on the bench yet. So some of those guys that haven't had a crack, it'll be really important for them. But then also for Dave Rennie, you know, if a guy plays well on a Wednesday or a Tuesday night or whatever it is, would he physically be able to play a test match, right? Yeah.
- 33:13on a Saturday. How does that look? You know, like I said, Ricardo, we used to tour with 26 of us, so the wingers and the halfbacks, you know, there's three wingers and two halfbacks in our day, so players have to back up all the time. But these current players don't know how to do it, and neither the coaching staff, so I think it'll be a logistical challenge for them. I don't think the franchises are going to be
- 33:36You know, I agree with Victor. I think they'll play the games of their lives and it'll be close and tough. So it's a classic tour, which excites me. I think it's amazing. Do you know how many times a South African province has beaten the All Blacks? I don't think, unless they beat them in 70. I think the Bulls did once. I think there's once the Bulls. Ten times. If I remember right.
- 34:02Ten times. Ten times. And I think Western Province have got the record. I think they've beaten the All Blacks three times. Did we lose in 92, Ricardo? I don't want to hear that. No. No.
- 34:13We didn't lose in 92, did we? Didn't lose in 92, but I'm going back to, I think it was 1928 or something was the first tour, you know, so, you know, 1949, we actually lost the Test Series 4-0. You know, we struggled in South Africa for a long, long time. I think one of the turning points was neutral referees.
- 34:35Could have helped. Yeah. Classic. And then it's actually the anniversary of the 96 team that was the first All Black team to win a Test Series there. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. So they were actually the guard of honour as the team ran out on Eden Park on the weekend. So, look, it's all shaping up. It's just, you know, we've got the curtain raiser out of the way. We're looking forward to the Rivals tour.
- 35:05Victor, we'll start with you because JK has already hinted that he's got two. What's your clip drift moment of the week? Guys won't understand this and it's not a rugby. It's not rugby this weekend. So I've said, I mean, it was very close South Africa winning under 20s and 7s and World Cups and everything. But for me and I've met him, we played icons of rugby a few years back.
- 35:33Grant Fox was there and his boy just walked with us next to the golf course and he was there supporting Campbell, that was our captain, and we got to meet him. And for Ryan Fox winning the British Open last night, unbelievable how he came through, made a putt on the 18th to win it. So I'm going to golf this week and to a New Zealander. Foxy, well done. Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:00I mean, I'll back that up. I text my old mate this morning. I was just so stoked for him, you know, because we holiday together. Victor, we've got a place at Waihi Beach, so Foxy and I are really close, and I was just so stoked for him. That's amazing. That's not my moment, though.
- 36:19I love Ryan, I love Foxy, and I'm just so pleased for him. That's just a massive, massive win. But I've got two, Ricardo, and I'm talking directly to Victor, one of them, and the other one is really a rugby one. So Patrick Tupolotu's try is not the one I'm talking to you about, Victor.
- 36:41It's actually when you look at the try. Can we get footage, Ricardo? Are they still being idiots about letting us play footage? I refuse to, right? Refuse to last week. Yeah, talk about it. What's your clip drift moment of the week, JK? I'm getting to it, mate. I'm getting to it. So Patrick Tupolotu's try, but what I want you to show is actually the reason why Patrick went in untouched was the movement.
- 37:04of the backs behind them. There was like five guys in motion, and that's what you need to do. I actually used exactly that clip on my show yesterday in South Africa on side entry. Showed it with nice arrows, five of them coming, even the short line on the outside. So I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 37:22Yeah, exactly. So if we can show that, maybe, Victor, you can put your clip up so we can have a look at it. But, you know, nowadays, you've got to get the defence to make decisions. And those bodies in motion made the defence make decisions. And Paddy went in untouched. But my other moment, my clip drift moment, my clip drift moment is something that I want every single referee to look at, because we're going to need this in South Africa. So in the 53rd minute,
- 37:51The Irish lock goes down and fakes an injury, Victor, fakes an injury. You know, you notice when some props go down and fake an injury because they're too tired. And the referee said to the guy, go off the back of the field and fix the guy up. This is the two guys. He got up. The lock got up and went straight back into the defensive line. So it was what I call cheating.
- 38:13And the referee said, get off the field and fix him up. So I want to see more of that because I think it is cheating. After a big scrum and your tight head prop gets up and he can't breathe and he wants to fall around, we're just going to send him off the field, go lie next to the field. Yeah, pretty much. Good. Pretty much. Pretty much. I think that anyone that goes down, what I would call it's cheating. Yeah.
- 38:40It's like, you know, when you watch the Soccer World Cup. That was a horrible final, by the way. Did you watch the final, Victor? It was a horrible game of soccer. I just saw Spain. Yeah, Spain won it. Yeah, but it was a horrible game of football. But anyway, you know, when you see them take them fake guys. I didn't watch it.
- 38:59So that's my moment, and I want to send a whole lot of Clipdrift bottles of premium to the referees, please. Can we do that, Clipdrift? No, you can't. You can't drive the referees to pull the tour.
- 39:15Only out of them before the game. Actually, that's probably for some of them. Maybe help them relax a little bit before the game. Clippies and Coke. There's going to be controversy, though, Victor, I'm telling you. On the Rivals tour, there's going to be controversy. And you don't want the referees to make the decision on who's winning the games. You want the players to go fight it out. Yeah. Yeah. All right, we're getting closer. Go and have a break for this week, and we'll see you next week on Rivals.
- 39:45Cheers, boys.
