- 0:00Hey, it's kind of here from Revenant. The vocalist for Revenant. Yeah,
- 0:04we got a single new single coming out on Friday called Disdain. Yeah,
- 0:10go and check that, Go and check that one out. It's definitely
- 0:13our biggest track yet. It's going to be awesome. Yeah, Revenant,
- 0:16we've been we've been a band pretty formally, been a band since sort of
- 0:20the beginning of this year. Yeah. We started off the year with yeah,
- 0:25with the release of our first track, Void of Mind, and yeah,
- 0:29been sort of scaling, scaling through the ranks and pulling some gigs and
- 0:33stuff together ever since. And Yeah, it's been been something of a something
- 0:37of a passion project for myself. You know, it's been it's really been
- 0:41in the work since twenty twenty. But it's yeah, it's it's nice to
- 0:44finally be out. So yeah, it's it's going good. Good man,
- 0:49thanks for joining us today. I'd have pleasure to be your Thank you,
- 0:53Chris, it's a great pleasure to meet you too. My friends. You
- 0:56say, Revenant are releasing your third single, Disdain. This write a huge
- 1:00seventh but that's going to be the actual video release, but the song itself
- 1:04will be released to coincide with the State of Origin on Wednesday Night during the
- 1:08fifth on all indeed platforms. Totally forgot, totally, Yeah, I totally
- 1:15forgot that State of Origin was actually on Tomorrow night, So it could work
- 1:19in our favor, but well, who knows. You never really know until
- 1:26until it goes. So tell us it more about disdain from a musical point
- 1:30of view, mate, what are you going for with the song? Yeah,
- 1:33so disdain basically the biggest the thing that we've the thing that we've been
- 1:38explaining to people when we're talking about Distain is it's kind of the big bad
- 1:42brother of Void of Mind. It's a little bit more in the in the
- 1:48metal core sort of style, you know, some tasty little licks and stuff
- 1:52there. But then we're also experimenting a little bit more with with some cynthi
- 1:56stuff as well. So it's it's just it's it's honestly just to kill a
- 2:00track. It's it's a big it's it's a big track. You know,
- 2:04We've we've got all of the elements and stuff that we've that we've hit hit
- 2:07four so far. You know, gre our vocals mixed in with the clean
- 2:12vocals quite nicely. You know, we've got in my opinion, in my
- 2:16opinion, probably one of the better drummers out there at the moment. Jakie
- 2:21Jake Brown, He's phenomenal. And then yeah, da damon, my brother.
- 2:29He's he plays guitar for us, so he's he's literally come from a
- 2:32bedroom guitarist. This is his first band and this this was Yeah, I
- 2:38think it was the third or fourth track that he sent through to us initially,
- 2:42and I couldn't believe it, to be honest, I went as soon
- 2:46as we heard it, I was like, you're joking, Like he's just
- 2:50leveling, leveling up a lot. But you know, as far as yeah,
- 2:54as far as obviously talking a lot bit about about disdain from the musical
- 2:58side of things, Obviously, me being a vocal list, I can touch
- 3:00on that a little bit more. But yeah, so just stain this one.
- 3:07It's definitely a darkest track for sure. We've touched a lot on We've
- 3:13touched a lot of mental health and stuff in our past tracks, because it's
- 3:15obviously a pro it's obviously a topic that's quite dear to my heart. And
- 3:21you know, obviously the rest of the people, the rest of the guys
- 3:23in the band, as well, you know, it's it's something that's that's
- 3:27very out there and apparent these days. But yeah, distain, when I
- 3:30was writing disdain It, I wanted to level up just that little bit more.
- 3:36But also, you know, I found that through trying to trying to
- 3:40level up my writing, it was taking me into, you know, so
- 3:45to speak, the deepest parts of my core, you know. So yeah,
- 3:50this one, this one in particular, is about it's it's particularly about
- 3:54my struggles with with substance abuse and addiction and basically how that then correlates to
- 4:03fairly hectic mental health and mental health problems, you know, on both sides,
- 4:10you know, between between obviously the addiction kind of aggravating mental health,
- 4:15but then obviously the addiction coming across because of mental health as well. So
- 4:20it's kind of it's it touches in some it touches in some touchy subjects for
- 4:25sure, but yeah, it's it's also more the big thing that I the
- 4:30big thing that I wanted to go for with this track is you know,
- 4:33trying to put it out there to people that you know, not only is
- 4:38not only is it okay to be to be going through this kind of stuff
- 4:42like it's you know it there is other people out there that are going through
- 4:46it as well, and you know it's it's going to be okay, that
- 4:49it is going to be okay. So I've been kind of pinning, pinning
- 4:54it down as this is, you know, something of a beacon of hope
- 4:58to people that might be that might be able to resonate with what I'm saying.
- 5:01So, you know, it's it's definitely the deepest, the deepest,
- 5:06darkest that I've that I've been since writing for Revenant. But yeah, it's
- 5:11the the end product has come out, has come out really well, very
- 5:15cool. So when you say it's the darkest thing you've ever done, you
- 5:16mean lyrically, musically, atmospherically, or all the above. Definitely, Definitely
- 5:23lyrically for sure. Atmospherically definitely as well, because it's you know, the
- 5:30couple of the promo stuff that we brought out so far just sort of it
- 5:32touches a little bit on some of the synthis side and some of the like
- 5:38some of the kind of synth parts in it which are very sort of ambient
- 5:41and you know, dark and crawl so to speak. So it's definitely I
- 5:46think it's it's our it's our darkest song, you know, all over at
- 5:50this point in time, and it's yeah, it's it's a lot, it's
- 5:54a how do I put this, it's kind of less. I feel that
- 5:59the first two tracks we're a little bit more on the vibrant side, whereas
- 6:02this one's you know, it's it's heavy and it's fast, and it's yeah,
- 6:08it's like hits hits high ends on my cleans as well as you know,
- 6:12sort of rag ranging everywhere in my in my screams as well. So
- 6:15it really it brings, it brings the best out in all of all of
- 6:19us as a musician. And then yeah, like it's it's just become become
- 6:26this awesome thing that we're so so excited to, so excited to show the
- 6:30world. Oh and the song starts with a misleading electronic intro that sort of
- 6:36gives up the impression that it's not going to be that hard hitting, and
- 6:40then it just bursts into life like it's the guy's touch. Was that a
- 6:44deliberate, deliberate thing. It's funny you mentioned that. I was just thinking
- 6:48about it the other day. We when we first recorded this song, it
- 6:53it had obviously the drop into it had obviously the drop into it, but
- 6:57we hadn't really done much in the way of the synth kind of the synthy
- 7:01kind of stuff. And then you know, that started to you know,
- 7:05we were all we were all saying, you know, we should, you
- 7:08know, we should try and dabble into some of the some of the more
- 7:11adm sort of elements of metalcore. And then when when Jake, Jake actually
- 7:19was the one who mixed the master this one, and yeah, when when
- 7:24he kind of caught win that that was what we that was what we wanted,
- 7:26he ran with it, and you know, and then even then,
- 7:30like once we once we did that, you know, it was it was
- 7:33sick, Don't get me wrong, but it it was still just missing something
- 7:39in that initial in that initial bit and especially with that drop. And yeah,
- 7:45Jake, Jake kind of brought the idea to me. It was like,
- 7:46hey, like what about like something like a reverse snare or something like
- 7:51that. And I was like, bang, that's it. He mentioned he
- 7:56mentioned it. I was like, I had this idea in my head.
- 7:59But then when when he showed it to us, and you know, obviously
- 8:03that that brought air brought in the reverse snare to kick in the kick in
- 8:07the track, We're all just like, Yeah, that's exactly what we're after.
- 8:15Love it what it works out? Yeah, absolutely absolutely. You mentioned
- 8:18that the State is your third song that you're released this year, So how
- 8:22does it showcase? Like you sort of touch on this a little bit,
- 8:24but I want to go into a bit deeper, like how does disdain and
- 8:26showcase a different side of the band than your first two singles boyd in Mind
- 8:31and Bleed Within? Yep, So yeah, really disdained kind of. I
- 8:37feel like it showcases just growth in us as as writers, to be honest.
- 8:41You know, it's abbles in a few extra, few extra things,
- 8:45you know, whether whether that might be you know, a slightly more technical
- 8:48rif or you know, some of the some of the drum fills in this
- 8:50one are just nuts. Like even we were recording the video and Jake said
- 8:56to Alex Alex from Emerge, who did our video? You know, there's
- 9:03there's this one feel. There's one feel just before it kicks into the verse.
- 9:07You know, maybe don't put that, Maybe don't put that in the
- 9:09video because I don't know if I can get it. And it was like
- 9:13we kind of he it was funny the second that he said that he nailed
- 9:18it. But yeah, I think as far as as far as how how
- 9:22this differs from the rest of the tracks that we've had. You know,
- 9:26as I mentioned before, we kind of pined this down to the Big Bad
- 9:30Brother avoid but you know, it does dabble into the into the e d
- 9:35M side, the sort of electronic cynthy kind of side, a little more
- 9:39than a little more than the other two tracks, because you know, it
- 9:43was something that we you know, we didn't really want to overdo in the
- 9:48initial phases, but it was always something that we wanted to, you know,
- 9:52try out. You know, some of our biggest influencers, you know,
- 9:56run Run in the running a lot of a lot of the E M
- 10:00style. You know, you look at places that you look at bands like
- 10:01North Lane and Polaris, who are who are massive influences for us. You
- 10:05know, they have very they have varying DM styles in there in their tracks,
- 10:11and that was kind of the vibe ish that we were going for.
- 10:16And yeah, I think it's it shows it shows kind of where we where
- 10:20we've matured as a band in particular as well, because you know, even
- 10:26even then you know, this track was the first two tracks, Bleed and
- 10:31Void. They were written by They were written and sort of done by the
- 10:35time that Aiden actually joined the band. And then when yeah, when we
- 10:41were recording Disdain, obviously Aiden was Aidan was there at that point, and
- 10:45he put his he put obviously his spin onto it, and you know,
- 10:48put put his kind of two cents worth into into what we you know,
- 10:52into the vision that we had for this track. And yeah, it's it's
- 10:56definitely definitely shown in in the body of work that we've that we've got and
- 11:01then you know, it just continues to continues to look more and more positive
- 11:07the more we the more we kind of look at it. Out of those
- 11:11three songs stand alone singles, bro, are they part of a big album
- 11:15or EP? Picture? Yeah, So basically Disdain, I'm not one hundred
- 11:20percent sure whether I'm supposed to say this, but Distain will Disdain essentially is
- 11:24going to be the first track that we're going to release from EP that we've
- 11:31got coming later this year. So we've got yeah, so we've got this
- 11:35track, this track coming out obviously on Friday, and then we've got two
- 11:37more singles that will come out over the next couple of months and then yeah,
- 11:43we're going to take probably probably a few months, a few months off
- 11:46release it of releasing obviously that every six weeks, and then yeah, we're
- 11:50going to release We're going to release an EP later this year. Oh and
- 11:56are those three songs that you released? Are are they good sonic representation?
- 12:00Know what to expect from the EP or is it more layers to the band?
- 12:03Look, it's it's funny you say that, you know, we've we've
- 12:07dabbled in this hole. We want to make sure that everything's fresh, and
- 12:11you know, we say, one of the visions from the beginning was that
- 12:16we wanted to not be just the metal core band or you know, we
- 12:20didn't just want to be We didn't just want you know, the elements,
- 12:24the elements that you know, every metal core band out there has, you
- 12:28know, in every song and you know, just rinse and repeat kind of
- 12:31over and over again. So we wanted to make sure that you know,
- 12:35with each with each track that we're writing, it just has that has that
- 12:39different element, so you know, still still rooted in that in that metal
- 12:43core sort of element, but each track, in my opinion, each track
- 12:50that we've had come out so far has been has been just that much different.
- 12:54You know, you look at the difference obviously between Void of Mind and
- 12:58Bleed Within. You know, Voyd has has kind of a bit more on
- 13:01that, you know, North Laney Polaris, he stored a style whereas you
- 13:07know, we've we've had people tell us that Bleed kind of sounds a little
- 13:11bit more sort of kill switchy, you know, a bit more, a
- 13:13bit more of that rock like that, that sort of hard metal kind of
- 13:18rock style, which you know, that's that's pretty much exactly what we've been,
- 13:22what we've been trying to go for. And you know, the releases
- 13:26that we've got coming, the releases that we've got coming out over the next
- 13:31couple of weeks, you know, the two tracks that we're the two tracks
- 13:33that we're doing are just you know, different again, and it's you know,
- 13:37it's it's it's interesting to see. It's interesting to see how how things
- 13:43have evolved, and especially with with Damon in particular being the one who kind
- 13:48of rites most of the rights most of the tracks when he when he sends
- 13:52them through to us, you know, seeing what seeing what different things he's
- 13:56coming up with, and you know, then obviously Jake sort of putting his
- 14:00ja and Jake and Aiden putting this spin onto onto the music side of things
- 14:03to make everything into you know, Revenant. That's pretty much. That's pretty
- 14:09much it. Hey, like we yeah, we never wanted to be that
- 14:13band that was just rinse and repeat, you know, we wanted to make
- 14:16sure that we were that we were keeping it fresh and keeping everything you know,
- 14:20keeping everything fun. And that's you know, we our mission right from
- 14:26the word go was that we we wouldn't release any music that if we weren't
- 14:31a part of Revenant, we wouldn't listen to. So that was you know
- 14:35that that in itself, I think has has really sort of transcribed into what
- 14:39we've and to what we've done. So you've also got some shows coming up
- 14:46to start on June to twenty second at Rix and Brisbane, then you hit
- 14:50Nambo, Thunderberg, Yadler, Fortitude Valley, and you finish up with the
- 14:52Mansfield Tavern for Rock Beats Depression on September seventh. So's some some pretty cool
- 14:58interesting places playing there. Yeah, man, yeah, we we It's funny.
- 15:03Our journey, our journey to these shows has been like it's been amazing,
- 15:09how sort of coincidental it's been, so to speak, like it's literally
- 15:16just fallen, Like most of some of the shows and stuff have literally just
- 15:18fallen on our lap. Like for example, the show that we've got Yatler
- 15:24at the Boiler Room with with Hammers, you know, awesome, awesome lineup.
- 15:30We were so we the video for Disdain, we shot that out out
- 15:35in Tweed at one of our good friend Christian he's actually the drummer of Snake
- 15:39Mountain. He yeah, out out of his studio out in Tweed Heads and
- 15:46yeah, he he'd never really hurt us or anything, Like I've spoken with
- 15:50him a few times. And bass player bass player in my in my alternative
- 15:56metal cover band Resurrection Andy. He actually plays in another band with him called
- 16:00three O eight as well, So I kind of met him through through Andy,
- 16:06and yeah, he hadn't really heard us, but you know, we'd
- 16:10like we had the song, we had the song playing obviously to play it
- 16:12to shoot the video, and you know, he sort of fell in love
- 16:15with that straight away. And yeah, he'd sort of pulled us aside kind
- 16:21of halfway through shooting the video and was like, hey, I got this
- 16:22show in July, do you want to play And we were like, yeah,
- 16:27like absolutely, like we're early on in the early on in the piece,
- 16:33and yeah, like they the other points to that as well. So
- 16:37Sam from A on Nexus so she's actually she's actually going to be in this
- 16:44in the video for Disdain and she was. He was out there as well,
- 16:48and yeah, they were thinking they were talking about that track that that
- 16:51show because A on Nexus were already on that show, and yeah they are.
- 16:56They asked us if we wanted to, if we wanted to play it,
- 16:57and we were like yeah, like obviously early on we want to sort
- 17:00of take what we can get. But then, you know, seeing like
- 17:04getting added to that group chat and seeing all of these all of these bands
- 17:08and stuff on there that I've gone to see multiple times and you know,
- 17:11I've I've sort of fallen in love with over the years. It's you know,
- 17:17it was it was amazing to see that see that all transpire, and
- 17:21yeah, that's that's pretty much pretty much been the story for for a lot
- 17:25of the shows that we've that we've pulled hate. You know, obviously having
- 17:29having the right contacts and you know, knowing knowing the right people is super
- 17:33important. But you know it's I never, I never wouldn't envision that we'd
- 17:38have that we'd have the show success that we've had so far, especially especially
- 17:44this early on on You Runner only. Alrightokinda, well, thanks for your
- 17:48time that I made. It's been a pleasure to speaking with you. The
- 17:51single Disdain the videos out this Friday. The song is out just before kickoff
- 17:56the State of Erosion, So like with a crack about about listener and she's
- 18:00a fucking pearl is so best of luck,
