- 0:00SPEAKER_06: Hey, mental health and mission of the church podcast listeners.
- 0:04SPEAKER_06: It's Joey Svents, and I help with things around here.
- 0:07SPEAKER_06: Anyway, here's a podcast I put on my own channel to honor Chip.
- 0:11SPEAKER_06: So you get some chip doses or chipper isms.
- 0:14SPEAKER_06: Hey, get this.
- 0:15SPEAKER_06: We're setting up a voice mailbox just for listeners to be able to ask Chip questions.
- 0:21SPEAKER_06: And I'm I'm gonna call the act of you doing so chipping in.
- 0:31SPEAKER_06: Chip, check, check, check, check, check, check.
- 0:35SPEAKER_06: Today I wanted to share something about a dear friend.
- 0:38SPEAKER_06: He's been coming on Pastor With No Answers since I started as Chip Judd.
- 0:42SPEAKER_06: If you don't know him, he's a friend, but also a mentor, pastor, counselor for me.
- 0:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, the dude visited me when I was in the middle institution, and he calls me friend.
- 0:53SPEAKER_06: Man.
- 0:53SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm helping him get his talks out on the podcast and YouTube channel.
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: He's got some important stuff to say.
- 1:01SPEAKER_06: It's ironic, he was a drugie, got saved, became a faith guy, that's what he calls it.
- 1:07SPEAKER_06: The kind of guy he was back in the day would have told Joey of 2024, hey man, your antidepressants communicates like a faith that you need to repent from, and then you can get your healing.
- 1:22SPEAKER_06: That kind of guy.
- 1:22SPEAKER_06: Well, come to find out, God had made Chip a great counselor.
- 1:27SPEAKER_06: He got all mastered up with a degree and is now a huge advocate for the church to now catch up with science.
- 1:35SPEAKER_06: To get this, he's still a Christian, but some of his brothers and sisters from back in the day would say that Chip is no longer a faith guy, given his current zest now for the scientific side of things, in addition to the spirit.
- 1:51SPEAKER_06: Well, that's what he wants to spend the rest of his life doing, bridging a gap between science and the church.
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: I'll have a link to his YouTube channel with conversations as such.
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: But Wednesday, he'll be releasing a talk we had about his current health.
- 2:08SPEAKER_06: So right now, he has found himself with three options a lung transplant, which he still needs to get on the list, a miracle healing, supernatural sort of thing, or the lung condition he has will eventually take his life.
- 2:24SPEAKER_06: So I wanted to share some clips of a Chip is alive, by the way.
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: It just so happens that I released an episode of Chip talking about his new endeavors on the Seacoast podcast.
- 2:40SPEAKER_06: And I wanted to share some clips of that conversation.
- 2:44SPEAKER_06: Some of you know I do my churches podcast.
- 2:46SPEAKER_06: Here's Chip hanging with me and some other Seacoast friends talking about how embarrassed he is of us, man.
- 2:56SPEAKER_06: Me and you, Christians, pop a chip mad at us.
- 3:05SPEAKER_06: Alright, I know this won't make Chip nervous.
- 3:07SPEAKER_06: I don't what do you get nervous about, Lynn?
- 3:10SPEAKER_08: I don't think that's a question I will answer.
- 3:13SPEAKER_06: Cool.
- 3:14SPEAKER_06: Same thing.
- 3:16SPEAKER_06: Alright, well, does this make you nervous?
- 3:17SPEAKER_06: We're gonna talk the election.
- 3:19SPEAKER_06: I got something cool to share about the election, and does that make you nervous?
- 3:22SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: We don't really, you know, do a whole lot of politics here because we want people to be united around the gospel.
- 3:29SPEAKER_06: And politics kind of separate us, but I just thought this was too interesting.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I like demanded, pleaded, called God on promises, and was like, you have to show up, or like I am done.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: And he did.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: And he did.
- 3:44SPEAKER_06: That's something to really think about.
- 3:46SPEAKER_06: What does it mean that the God of the universe loves me?
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: And he's saying that our God is able to be my God or what?
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Man, you got my mind going crazy right now.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I just think that that is evangelical bullshit.
- 3:59SPEAKER_08: And I don't sit in their box anymore.
- 4:01SPEAKER_08: So feeling rejected from the church makes me feel far away from God.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: If I'm living out of the love of God, love of the divine, then in some ways we're unoffendable.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: It's wrong to martialize anybody for any reason.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we can just have some things about our perspective that's off until we encounter someone who can challenge our thoughts, have conversations with us, and we just continue to grow and evolve.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I'm with you there.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I like that.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: That sounded like wall, wah, wah, wah, wah, wall, hardcore gospel lover.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: I do love the gospel.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I just think we get it wrong.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I was so highly medicated, I don't even know if you have my people.
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: Trying to think when this episode will release, it will certainly be somewhat mid-October.
- 4:46SPEAKER_06: So we're looking at less of a month of away.
- 4:49SPEAKER_06: This is crazy.
- 4:51SPEAKER_06: So there is a guy who had his name is, and and you guys laugh at me if this is like a well-known thing, but his name is Lickman, and he has predicted nine out of the ten last elections accurately.
- 5:07SPEAKER_06: The last one that what year were you born?
- 5:09SPEAKER_06: Remind me?
- 5:10SPEAKER_07: 99.
- 5:10SPEAKER_06: 99.
- 5:11SPEAKER_06: So when she was one year uh old, you guys remember the gore-bush fiasco.
- 5:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_06: If you're super young, it was an election.
- 5:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it was an it was an election that did not end until maybe the spring.
- 5:25SPEAKER_06: It was crazy.
- 5:26SPEAKER_06: It was it was nuts.
- 5:27SPEAKER_06: That's the only prediction that he got wrong.
- 5:30SPEAKER_06: And obviously, that was just nuts.
- 5:32SPEAKER_06: He's gotten every single one of them right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_06: He says Camilla Harris will be the next president of the United States.
- 5:38SPEAKER_06: He's been right nine out of ten times.
- 5:42SPEAKER_06: I was just thinking about the and I wanted to there, I I take chip notes.
- 5:46SPEAKER_06: The chip notes are when chip is on the Seacoast podcast, here are questions to throw at him.
- 5:51SPEAKER_06: So one that I wanted to throw at you, but here we go, chip notes.
- 5:55SPEAKER_06: Well, but I also wanted to ask everybody, it's like, do y'all lament as Christians when you think about the political climate?
- 6:07SPEAKER_06: And it's kind of like a man, this this should be our moment of truth.
- 6:12SPEAKER_06: Not in a prideful, braggy way, but in a, this is a way, this is the time when we can really be a light and show people what the love of Jesus is like, and not be caught up in us versus them and just be so consumed with God's love that's just overflowing, contagious.
- 6:31SPEAKER_06: Like, do you really think about that?
- 6:33SPEAKER_06: And like, gosh, this really does suck.
- 6:36SPEAKER_06: The one thing that we ought to be known for, we're kind of known as the op for the opposite.
- 6:43SPEAKER_06: And especially in moments like these, like, is does that does that weigh on you any at all?
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: And and does it come across judgy?
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: That's one one thing that I've been thinking about a lot is as I as I as I am just so consumed with why don't we just try to love?
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: It seems like for some people it's not even trying.
- 6:59SPEAKER_06: It it feels like it's judgy.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: It's almost like this is something I figured out.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: I can do this well.
- 7:04SPEAKER_06: And I that's not true.
- 7:05SPEAKER_06: I drop the ball with love all the time, but I do feel like I'm locked in on that's our only hope, and it seems like the masses aren't with me.
- 7:14SPEAKER_06: And that feels judgy.
- 7:15SPEAKER_06: Should I be worried about sounding judgmental when it comes to love?
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: No, no.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, my my deal, Joey, is I'm I'm very caught up in exactly what you're saying.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm embarrassed.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: Honestly, I'm ashamed of the church.
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: I think we've handled the last stretch, and I don't know how many years back.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: We've gotten sucked up into this stuff so badly that we've forgotten what our real mission is.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: You know, our mission is to reach this culture, to reach the people of our culture.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: I don't want to say things that get me in trouble with people, but how you say something matters as much, if not more, than what you say.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: So uh it's almost like I'm comfortable saying this to both sides of both issues, people.
- 7:57SPEAKER_04: It doesn't matter what you're saying and how right you might be, the way you're saying it's wrong.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: And it just sucks.
- 8:03SPEAKER_04: And scripture says that uh when a when a pupil or disciple is fully trained, they'll be like their teacher.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: So what scares me is the church is a representation of its leaders, and we must really be doing a lousy job because the church is an embarrassment to Jesus right now, in my opinion.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: And I don't mean don't read into that which side you fall on.
- 8:26SPEAKER_04: I mean the way you fall on your side, the way you feel comfortable saying what you believe to be true.
- 8:33SPEAKER_04: You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
- 8:35SPEAKER_06: Aaron Ross Powell So it's not a matter of where you stand, it's how you carry yourself.
- 8:39SPEAKER_04: Well, where you stand matters, but we've just gotten to where we don't even think about the fact that we represent Jesus.
- 8:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Embarrassed.
- 8:54SPEAKER_06: I think I I got tricked into watching a uh movie.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:01SPEAKER_08: Counselor's like, oh, striked into it.
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: That doesn't really, really excuse like an excuse.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: I walked in the wrong theater.
- 9:10SPEAKER_06: Well, I got tricked into watching what I thought was going to be a scary movie on the rapture from people who did not like consider themselves Christians, but wanted to like use rapture stories and make a scary movie.
- 9:26SPEAKER_06: And I I wanted to watch it out of like immense curiosity.
- 9:29SPEAKER_06: Like, how are they?
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: Well, it ended up being a total, total Christian movie, which I've been thinking about bringing someone on here who wrote a book about the the rapture.
- 9:40SPEAKER_06: And we won't go in too many directions here, but do you, from a theological standpoint, are are the three of you anticipating a rapture?
- 9:48SPEAKER_06: Like yes or no?
- 9:49SPEAKER_06: Do you are you anticipating a rapture?
- 9:51SPEAKER_06: Not the second coming of Christ, but something before the second coming of Christ.
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: What I tell people is I believe there's ways you can biblically support a rapture, but I don't care.
- 10:06SPEAKER_04: That's a good point.
- 10:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:08unknown: Yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_06: How about you?
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: Rapture?
- 10:09unknown: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: You do?
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: How about you?
- 10:11SPEAKER_06: You think about like rapture's gonna happen at some point?
- 10:14SPEAKER_08: Is that a part of you?
- 10:15SPEAKER_08: I really don't know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_08: I'm like, if I'm here, I hope so, because it seems like those that are marked are just gonna have to endure some hard things.
- 10:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_06: Well let me ask you this.
- 10:26SPEAKER_07: I hope it's true.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: It was definitely an attempt to have a scary and compelling reason to give your life to God and repent.
- 10:34SPEAKER_06: Like do you think that's a a good endeavor from a theatrical standpoint?
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: Hey, let's make this scary and it's for their own good.
- 10:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think part of the weakness of the body of Christ is we've used fear to motivate people to build a relationship with God.
- 10:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: Fear is not a great foundation for a friendship, relationship, love.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: Can you can you start with fear and you know evolve to a love with God?
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: But I just think it's a it's a manipulative, dumb way to bring people to Jesus.
- 11:45SPEAKER_06: I thought what I thought was really weird about the movie is, and I thought very not irresponsible theologically, but I just thought I was shocked.
- 11:53SPEAKER_06: The bodies weren't raptured.
- 11:55SPEAKER_06: So you literally had like bodies lying around where the souls have, and I thought that was to me, that's like bedrock rapture, is the bodies actually disappear and there's car wrecks.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: There, you know, you remember that 70s movie where the guy's electric shaver is in the sink?
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: Just remember that scene?
- 12:12SPEAKER_06: So I thought that was funny.
- 12:14SPEAKER_06: I didn't get tricked into that movie, Joe.
- 12:16SPEAKER_06: Hey, hey, they watched, they they made us watch it at youth group.
- 12:19SPEAKER_06: So I came home one time.
- 12:21SPEAKER_06: What am I gonna do?
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: I'm talking to these movies.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: I was in youth group.
- 12:26SPEAKER_06: We watched it at youth group.
- 12:27SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 12:28SPEAKER_06: So it's called it's called The Remaining, if you guys are so is that the scary one or the non-scary?
- 12:35SPEAKER_08: If you want to watch a scary movie, movie on the end time.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: Why not?
- 12:41SPEAKER_05: It was biblical.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: Why not?
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: Joey, you're you're tricking me into it's not working.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go in the other theater.
- 12:48SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 12:49SPEAKER_06: So uh a mental health question that I I really have been saving for because we've brought up something that you have said to me for numerous times, and I have brought it up on this podcast many times, and it's the whole caring without carrying.
- 13:06SPEAKER_06: Have y'all heard him say that?
- 13:07SPEAKER_06: Or have y'all and you know, the whole concept of we can be caring people, we can be loving people, we can love our brothers and sisters in Christ, our spouses, our kids, but I don't know if should is an appropriate word here, but I'll use it.
- 13:22SPEAKER_06: We should love in a way where we're not carrying burdens that we're not being asked to carry, and we can't.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: We can't carry their burdens, they're their burdens.
- 13:33SPEAKER_06: And my question to you is how have you figured out that dance with your kids?
- 13:40SPEAKER_06: It is completely different territory, right?
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: Like it feels like more of a challenge.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: You just gave me a smirk.
- 13:47SPEAKER_06: Did you see the smirk?
- 13:49SPEAKER_06: That was a real deal smirk.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: I was just thinking, let's go back to the movie deal.
- 13:53SPEAKER_04: No, uh there's no two ways about it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: You know, uh, you know, you joke and you say if mom's happy, everybody's happy.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: But I would put it this way, you know, who said it recently?
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: You're as you're as happy as your saddest kid.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: What I mean is there's a there's a there's a connection there, a bond there, a concern there that it's impossible to completely let go.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: Here's the key word when I think that phrase, care but not carry.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: It's the word responsibility.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Um, I care, I hurt for them or you or whoever.
- 14:25SPEAKER_04: But it it helps me when I differentiate the outcome I'd like to see happen and whether or not I'm responsible or capable of achieving that outcome.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: And that just that just affects the way I carry it.
- 14:39SPEAKER_04: Doesn't mean it's not scary with your kids or a friend or whatever, but it just affects the weightiness of it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: If I know, yes, I'd like to see this outcome, but I can't produce that outcome.
- 14:52SPEAKER_04: Therefore, I'm not responsible for that outcome.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: And of course, if if you can't produce the outcome, you're not responsible for it.
- 14:59SPEAKER_04: You have to find somebody bigger than yourself to trust, yeah, which is God, and um, and that's where you land, you know.
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: You my my fallback, failsafe, is this raised non-Christian drugs, sex, rock and roll, and my life's been way better than I ever dreamed.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: So my my fallback is this God, you got me.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: Get them, whoever them is.
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, go to the same lengths that you went to get me.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: And and I just trust him for that.
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: And it helps me to know that he he loves it more than I do, and not as like a bumper sticker, but as a I really believe that.
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: You know, when you get grandkids and everything, dude, I mean, your heart just can't hold it all.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: You just you just can't.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: Especially as crazy as the world is.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: But God's good, and he's he's not finished being good.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: Years ago, I was in the charismatic environment, which you believed in the supernatural, you know, a lot of altar calls, prayer lines, laying out of hands.
- 16:06SPEAKER_06: And and was that your background, Lynn?
- 16:07SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 16:08SPEAKER_06: No, okay.
- 16:08SPEAKER_06: Very strict background, but very traditional and kind of quiet.
- 16:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I would say I didn't like learn about the Holy Spirit until C Gift's.
- 16:16SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 16:16SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 16:17SPEAKER_06: Sorry.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: That was pretty good.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: So I mean, I was around a lot of that, but I think deep down I I like to see results.
- 16:23SPEAKER_04: I like to see, I love people.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: And so you you came into the prayer line with XYZ problem.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: You know, we told you it's gone now.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: You said in Jesus' name I'll never be the same.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: And then I got around you a month later and you still had the problem.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: And that just wasn't okay with me.
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: It wasn't okay that that we were rubbing people's hair off the top of their head, but their their lives weren't changing.
- 16:44SPEAKER_04: And so for me, that didn't make me not trust God.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: It didn't make me think he's lying.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: It made me say, okay, there's gotta be some piece of the puzzle we're missing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_06: And that drove me to think and study and pray and read and ponder and because in your mind, if God loves us and we're asking him to heal, that should just happen.
- 17:06SPEAKER_06: Like at that time, that's what was going on in your mind.
- 17:09SPEAKER_06: Like, this just doesn't work.
- 17:10SPEAKER_06: God loves us.
- 17:11SPEAKER_06: We prayed for healing.
- 17:12SPEAKER_06: Seems like the Bible says, you know, asking you shall receive good things.
- 17:15SPEAKER_06: This is a good thing.
- 17:16SPEAKER_06: Why didn't why isn't that person better?
- 17:18SPEAKER_06: Like, were those questions?
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't I wouldn't put it quite that simply, because I've always had kind of a warfare paradigm, meaning I understood we might have to contend for what it was we needed or wanted.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: Does that make sense?
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: So it wasn't like I was thrown by, well, God said it should happen, why isn't it happened?
- 17:36SPEAKER_04: Uh that's it's that's never been a struggle for me so much.
- 17:39SPEAKER_04: What was the struggle was the whole idea of event and process.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: Like we we we preached event experience, like we should do this and this should happen.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: We didn't preach process, like you know, you you become aware of an issue, you understand the dynamics that created the issue, you understand the dynamics that continue to maintain the issue, and you work on them and gradually, which was almost like a cuss word back in the 80s, gradually, incrementally, you were set free.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: And that that just wasn't a popular way of looking at things in the crowd I was running with.
- 18:21SPEAKER_04: And yet it became more the paradigm that I see things through.
- 18:25SPEAKER_04: I remember one time talking like this, and a friend of mine said, Take your computer and um do two searches.
- 18:31SPEAKER_04: And one was the word suddenly, and he said, you know, look up the word suddenly.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: And it was in the Bible, I'm guessing here, pretty close though, like 41 times.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: And then he said, Look up the phrase, it shall come to pass, which to me is a process phrase 454 times.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: So suddenly, wonderful word, who doesn't like suddenlies, good ones, but yet way like 10 times as many times, God said it shall come to pass.
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: That represents kind of my core thing.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: My core thing is God's a God of process, and events are wonderful.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: Like I tell people this your journey with God should be an event-punctuated process.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: I like events, they're awesome.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: Wouldn't want to live life without them, but I don't live for them.
- 19:19SPEAKER_04: I live for the process getting from here to there and out of this and into that.
- 19:24SPEAKER_06: And does that make sense?
- 19:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, super, super helpful.
- 19:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and it's something that I've been unpacking too.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: It's like it's probably a regurgitation of what you said, but but just in a weird Joey way.
- 19:38SPEAKER_06: But I've been but it's like this something in me, it was almost like a revelation of the the process and the journey is what life is all about.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: It just it is.
- 19:54SPEAKER_06: It it like because in my head, I've always thought, well, like I've spent most of my life, well, when I get married, or when I have kids, or when I make a certain amount of money, or when I overcome such and such, or when this problem is settled, or when I get through such and such.
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: And it is a game changer when it's just like, oh, all of this is the point.
- 20:15SPEAKER_06: It is the point.
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: It's it is life, it is the ups and downs.
- 20:19SPEAKER_06: And I don't know, for me, it's a it's a very freeing thing to it's one thing to realize it, it's another thing for it to bring you peace.
- 20:28SPEAKER_06: And I think I'm in the process of it that concept bringing peace into my life because it's an acceptance.
- 20:41SPEAKER_06: So the church upbringing that I that I had, why why was it so difficult to grasp?
- 20:47SPEAKER_06: This is what I needed as a kid, Chip.
- 20:49SPEAKER_06: Like, I needed someone to tell me God loves you despite those thoughts that you're having.
- 20:54SPEAKER_06: God loves you despite the fact that you dropped the ball today in something that you really needed to do.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: God loves you despite, like I'm constantly warring at, is God okay with me because of all these struggles?
- 21:06SPEAKER_06: And it's like, man, that to me is the ABCs of the Christian faith.
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: It's God loves you unconditionally.
- 21:13SPEAKER_06: And it's like, I look back, I'm like, man, my church community, it was some very beautiful times of community because I and I believe the spirit was there.
- 21:22SPEAKER_06: Uh, but as a whole, I feel like the church dropped the ball with me personally.
- 21:26SPEAKER_06: And I don't have anyone specific that I'm pointing at as far as like any sort of bitterness.
- 21:30SPEAKER_06: I don't have any bitterness, but man, it would have been nice to have just lived the experience of loving of a loving God that has my back no matter what.
- 21:38SPEAKER_06: What so you uh Lynn, would you say if you had to give yourself a grade right now, like are you really are you really good at living and abiding in God's love, or would you say it's still challenging?
- 21:49SPEAKER_08: It's I think it's I don't know that I would say challenging.
- 21:53SPEAKER_08: I wouldn't say that I'm good at it, but I would say um Okay, B minus, moving on.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: I'm just kidding.
- 21:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I would maybe B minus if we're given it a grade.
- 22:03SPEAKER_05: She took my case.
- 22:05SPEAKER_08: But it's easier for like I I think that's the natural human tendency is to want to hold on to something we can formulize.
- 22:15SPEAKER_08: I do X, Y, and Z, and this happens.
- 22:17SPEAKER_08: I want to see this instant thing.
- 22:19SPEAKER_08: And so it's it's easy for me to slip into the old pattern.
- 22:23SPEAKER_08: Um, but it's getting easier for me to catch myself.
- 22:27SPEAKER_08: So I wouldn't say I'm good at it, but I would say that I'm spending, I have more sweet times with him than that, than that these days.
- 22:35SPEAKER_06: I like that.
- 22:35SPEAKER_06: You actually said, do you remember uh saying this?
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: I don't know, I don't, I don't think I would put this in the category of a But do you remember saying that God doesn't really expect a whole lot out of us?
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: Do you remember that?
- 22:47SPEAKER_05: We did a whole podcast episode on that.
- 22:49SPEAKER_05: Because she said that.
- 22:50SPEAKER_05: I was like, what did you just say?
- 22:52SPEAKER_05: God doesn't expect a whole lot.
- 22:53SPEAKER_05: Can you get into that for like 30 seconds to make it a little bit more than a chance to do that?
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: I was thinking when Lynn was talking that.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: I mean, you can there's lots of those ways you can look at why we hang on to that.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: But I think some of it is it's hard for us to grasp that we don't have a contribution to make.
- 23:10SPEAKER_04: That that I can't I can't by performing or whatever improve my standing with God.
- 23:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:19SPEAKER_04: And and that's the beauty of it, but that's the challenge of it.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: Um and we default to pride.
- 23:25SPEAKER_04: I don't, I'm just not a real fan of the word pride anymore because of the way we just I think we misuse it.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: But it there's something in us.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: Wait, wait, wait, misuse how it's a bad thing?
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: No, no, no.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: I'm I I wouldn't say pride's a good thing.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: Pride's rarely the issue.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: Pride's a pride's a mask for insecurity.
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: If if you're projecting pride and competence and whatever, it's because you're insecure.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: So to say, oh, you got a pride issue, you don't have a pride issue.
- 23:51SPEAKER_04: You have an insecurity issue that you're masking with pride.
- 23:54SPEAKER_04: Well, if you define the problem wrong, you're not going to solve it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: So if we talk about, oh, you're prideful and you're and it's not the real issue, we're not helping the person.
- 24:03SPEAKER_04: Very few people has pride the issue.
- 24:05SPEAKER_04: It's it's insecurity and in and kind of what we're talking about.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: But there is something in us that we like to think we have some advocacy, we have some power, some control.
- 24:16SPEAKER_04: And if there's nothing I can do to improve my standing with God, that feels fairly powerless.
- 24:22SPEAKER_04: And that's that's the ultimate, you know, like abandonment of the gospel.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: The the real heart and soul of the gospel is abandoning the sense that there's anything I can do to please him.
- 24:34SPEAKER_04: I there's nothing other than acknowledge what he's done for me and then spend the rest of my days learning to receive it, rest in it, enjoy it.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: And that's just hard for us to wrap our head around.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: Without faith, it's impossible to please God.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: I used to read that verse as I've got to muster up a certain level of faith for God to be pleased with me, and it's actually flipping it around saying grace is the only way.
- 25:01SPEAKER_06: If you don't have faith in grace, I mean there's there's no connection point there.
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: It's it's not like a God folding his arm saying, I'm not pleased with you until you have enough faith.
- 25:09SPEAKER_06: But it's crazy how you can read scripture in a legalistic sense and filter it all through that where love is like right in front of you and you're not picking up.
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: I remember when I was kind of getting some of this stuff down in my own soul, spirit, whatever, I'd I'd go on the to the gym and I'd be on the step and I'd have a thing holding my Bible open.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: I'd read Romans 3, 4, and 5, 3, 4 and 5, 3, 4 and 5 over and over and over.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: And Colleen and I are reading through Romans right now, and I hit uh three or three this morning.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: And a simple phrase, how in the world do you misinterpret this?
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: For we've concluded that no flesh will be justified by keeping the law.
- 25:51SPEAKER_04: How do you misinterpret that?
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: But we'll be saved by grace through faith.
- 25:56SPEAKER_04: And you read that when your eyes are open, and it's like, how did we misinterpret that for so long?
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: Romans was the eye opener.
- 26:03SPEAKER_06: That was that was the eye-opening time for me, probably at like 10 or 11 years old.
- 26:09SPEAKER_06: It was my first encounter with verses about grace.
- 26:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_06: And it's almost like I know I was being told by my parents, but it didn't connect until I read, wait, it has nothing to do with what I do and don't do.
- 26:23SPEAKER_06: It's all just faith and receiving.
- 26:25SPEAKER_06: And that was in Romans.
- 26:26SPEAKER_06: I remember, I think it may have been Romans 2 and 3 in that area where I went to my parents.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: I said, Can you explain this to me?
- 26:33SPEAKER_06: It was like uh it was a beautiful experience.
- 26:36SPEAKER_04: I I got saved in the 70s in the charismatic movement, word of faith movement that believed in healing and all that.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: And and yet I had this counseling lean to me.
- 26:45SPEAKER_04: I was probably anti-medicine until the 80s, mid to late 80s, probably.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: What's funny as a Christian, that's early.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh yeah, you were early adapted.
- 26:55SPEAKER_04: Very much.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: Very much.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: And the and the posture was that's just because they don't know answers, they don't know Jesus, they don't know how to heal the soul.
- 27:03SPEAKER_04: In other words, we had all these platitudes we used that were just ridiculous.
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: But I would get beat up.
- 27:08SPEAKER_04: Imagine this one now.
- 27:09SPEAKER_04: I'd get beat up just wanting people to talk about their past.
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: And you I if I wish I had a dollar for every time somebody quoted 2 Corinthians 5, 17 to me.
- 27:17SPEAKER_04: You know, if any man be in Christ, he's a new creation, old things have passed away.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: And then they'd follow it up or well, see, your past is under the blood, you don't have to talk about it.
- 27:26SPEAKER_04: And I don't remember like a revelation, but I just knew instinctively in my gut, intuitively, by the Holy Ghost or something, that that's just dumb.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: And I would get beat up over wanting to counsel people.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I've had that.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: And that was before medicine.
- 27:45SPEAKER_04: Medicine wasn't even on the horizon, really.
- 27:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_06: I heard I had a pastor tell me that he highly recommends that I never share current struggles.
- 27:55SPEAKER_06: Like if I'm gonna share, it needs to be things that God has already helped me fix.
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: And I remember when I was told that, I'm like, that just doesn't sound right.
- 28:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, dude, we even had I say we, I didn't adhere to this very much, but there were even mathematical formulas.
- 28:11SPEAKER_04: Like, like, seriously, like literally, I heard guys teach this.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: You you didn't share in an area of struggle unless you were 51% victorious.
- 28:21SPEAKER_08: 51%.
- 28:22SPEAKER_08: How do you measure that?
- 28:23SPEAKER_08: Is 51% victory?
- 28:26SPEAKER_04: Well, you're you've you've you've you've crested the hill.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: You've crested the hill, you know.
- 28:31SPEAKER_04: Jesus kind of won things on the cross.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: And I just I would hear that kind of stuff, and I'm like you said, I'm like, how do you know that?
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: But then I'm just like, I didn't really have an answer for it, but I just thought something's not right about this.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: Hey, check this math out.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: We uh this was in a sermon.
- 28:44SPEAKER_06: This was the church that I attended from about eight years old to 16 years old.
- 28:48SPEAKER_06: But if you appear before the throne and it's just one person and you can't turn and say, God, that person's my responsibility, I help save them, then you get the boot too.
- 28:59SPEAKER_06: Come on, you gotta have at least one.
- 29:02SPEAKER_06: We were taught that.
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Like, if if there's not one person that you actually were a part of sharing the gospel and seeing them give their life to Christ, then you didn't do that.
- 29:11SPEAKER_06: I'm like instilling fear again.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: I instill fear and it's not free.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: The gospel's not free.
- 29:17SPEAKER_06: It's just, I don't know.
- 29:18SPEAKER_06: I look back on those times and I'm like, at the same time, they taught grace.
- 29:22SPEAKER_06: So it was just it was kind of confusing.
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: They they didn't teach grace, they quoted scriptures on grace, they didn't teach grace.
- 29:29SPEAKER_04: But think about this, because it's gonna show up in a lot, it has already in many ways in our conversation.
- 29:33SPEAKER_04: Kind of you you made reference to it.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: And this is part of why the world doesn't respect us to some degree, how manipulative our tactics have been.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: Do we trust in the power of God or not?
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: Then why do we have to manipulate people?
- 29:47SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:47SPEAKER_04: Well, if you don't come with somebody with you, you know, you you don't get in.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, you look if you just take half a step back and look at that, it ought to disgust you how profoundly, deeply manipulative that is.
- 30:01SPEAKER_04: And and if you if you look at a lot of things the church does, there's this underlying motive/slash manipulation there.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: We just don't always trust the power of God.
- 30:12SPEAKER_06: How would you this I'm I'm I'm increasing the challenge.
- 30:16SPEAKER_06: Currently in society, do we have too much medicine and not enough prayer?
- 30:21SPEAKER_08: I would say without knowing individual prayer lives, um, I would say as a whole, when I look across culture, I think people go to medicine first or go to whatever they they think is in their control first.
- 30:33SPEAKER_08: And so I would say um I I in my circles, I see more prayer with medicine, but um as a whole, when I look outside and and even I was with a group of people and there was something going on with me um the past week, and I just felt like in this instant the Lord told me to pray for healing and not to like go what what my gut instinct was the fix.
- 30:58SPEAKER_08: And so I asked for prayer and everybody started telling me what to do.
- 31:03SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, even in this group that I think is supposed to like, like in the and I'm not against medicine, you know, but um, so I think that there is in our culture a gut instinct to go for the thing that I can see that I can know that's gonna treat the symptom instead of and so I think it's a a first priority.
- 31:21SPEAKER_08: I don't see, I think we do people instinctively go first to medicine.
- 31:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I would almost think of it as like uh applying to anyone, faith or non-faith, you could probably rephrase it and say, too much medicine, not enough action.
- 31:39SPEAKER_06: Because I know for me personally, for the longest time I had a very immature perspective of therapy, and I thought to myself, I don't have things wrong with me other than biological stuff that medicine needs to fix.
- 31:54SPEAKER_06: Therapy?
- 31:55SPEAKER_06: I don't need that for a very long time.
- 31:57SPEAKER_06: Probably into my 30s, I was still functioning because I just was like, I mean, I'm not perfect, but I don't have anything like super, super wrong with me sort of thing.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: Um goodness.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'll be that grumpy old man for a second.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: You know, the the you know, we're reluctant to say, well, you know, I I I don't wanna I I don't want to guess at what somebody else's prayer life is like.
- 32:23SPEAKER_04: Just look at the condition of the world.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: I don't have to wonder if Christians are praying.
- 32:29SPEAKER_04: No, they're not praying.
- 32:31SPEAKER_04: I think it is going to be, if there's tears in heaven, one of them's gonna be tears of regret over what we could have done differently.
- 32:40SPEAKER_04: And I think one of them is not taking our proper place as as priests and prophets and kings and and stewardship and responsibility, and I think one of the main areas is prayer.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Now, I say that, but at the same time, I say I don't know that I'm comfortable putting the two too much medicine or too much prayer, because we've come into this fresh understanding of the physiological component of some of the mental health, some of the mental health struggles.
- 33:07SPEAKER_04: So I don't want to make it an either-or thing.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: We wouldn't do that with cancer, we wouldn't do it with whatever.
- 33:12SPEAKER_04: If somebody's dealing with cancer, we wouldn't say, oh, they must not be praying enough.
- 33:15SPEAKER_04: My deal is if you have a physiological issue that's causing mental health challenges, then medicine's the right thing to do.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, pray your butt off.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: But it's not one or the other.
- 33:26SPEAKER_04: And I know everybody agrees with that, but so it's it's to me, it's let's not give up the ground we've gained in understanding the complexity of the this creature that God created and how it functions.
- 33:53SPEAKER_06: So we're gonna start with the straight-up Joey Ware question.
- 33:56SPEAKER_06: So you have an opportunity, you have an opportunity to speak at a conference loaded with 3,000 Christian leaders who do not believe in the scientific part of the equation when it comes to what we're talking about.
- 34:15SPEAKER_06: They are they are the people who said, you know, pray and believe medicine is of the devil, don't talk to a therapist, just go to the Bible, that sort of thing.
- 34:25SPEAKER_06: You have an opportunity to talk to like 300, three, not 300 girls.
- 34:29SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna stick with 3,000.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, thank you.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: 3,000.
- 34:32SPEAKER_06: A lot of people.
- 34:33SPEAKER_06: How would you approach it?
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: Like, would you be strategic and courteous and try to go around to try to get your point across?
- 34:40SPEAKER_06: Would we get eight chip or strategic chip?
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: Uh I'd I I would probably try to be strategic.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, what I've tried to learn to do, you know, the Enneagram eight that you're referring to, I always have to resist that kicking the door down.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: So what I try to do is use questions.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: I'd probably try to appeal to their love for, hopefully, their love for the flocks that they're leading and say, you know, hey, are you satisfied with the results you're getting?
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: You know, do you do you feel like when you preach on he whom the sun sets free is free indeed?
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Do you feel like you have people that are actually, to some degree or another, in enjoying and experiencing progressive amounts of freedom in whatever areas?
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: In other words, I try to get them thinking honestly.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: What do you say to yourself when you've worked with someone for a year and they're not making much progress?
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: What how do you explain that to yourself?
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: They're like a faith is is what I was taught.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: What I'm edging toward is like I love to I love to get leaders to think about this.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: What is your theory of human development?
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: How did God design us to work?
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: How do we develop?
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: What breaks, and how do you fix it?
- 35:44SPEAKER_04: And most of them have never thought about it in that concise, logical a fashion.
- 35:50SPEAKER_04: But if you can ever get them to think about that, what it does is it makes them it makes them stop and go, okay, wait a minute.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: There's different ways to explain why this person's trapped in this behavior cycle.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: And all you can hope for is I I mean, I love the little combination of words mind shift.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: All you can hope is is is creating a mind shift.
- 36:13SPEAKER_04: And if you can just change their thinking a little bit, it can make a that scripture over there come alive and that one connect to that one.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, the thing that I try to remember is this it's the grace of God that we see what we see.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: So we shouldn't be judgmental of people that don't see what we see yet.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: And it's not always, I'm not always great at remembering that.
- 36:35SPEAKER_04: But it's it's helpful to remember.
- 36:36SPEAKER_04: My job is to try to help them see something they don't currently see.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: And so you kind of want to nudge in that direction.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: Now, right, wrong, or indifferent, I don't know.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: I'm not beyond or above just getting up there and giving them a kick in the butt, telling them, you know, you you boneheaded shepherds that you know, you hear this the wounds of your people superficially and say, peace, peace where there is no peace.
- 37:00SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I have been known to preach that on occasion.
- 37:03SPEAKER_04: Because the bottom line is there are answers that work, and it's shameful that we're not hungry enough to dig them out and find them and apply them and practice them.
- 37:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 37:15SPEAKER_06: So all right, mental health and mission of the church.
- 37:21SPEAKER_06: Videos, podcasts, a community for people to actually interact with and and chip.
- 37:27SPEAKER_06: You are at a place where a lot of people just, oh, they fantasize about being a certain age and being able to go out on a sailboat and and retire.
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: And what why are you so geared up and busy and adamant on a new-ish endeavor?
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: You've been doing this for a long time, but you're like launching like this this new thing.
- 37:48SPEAKER_06: Why do you care so much?
- 37:49SPEAKER_06: What's the purpose of what you're doing?
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, whatever.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: I don't want to sound all weird, whatever, but uh uh people's pain distracts me in a good way.
- 38:00SPEAKER_04: I I I you can't turn off that those glasses and you walk in a room and you see someone lonely and hurting and whatever.
- 38:08SPEAKER_04: And when you know there's answers and you know we're not really accessing and availing ourselves of all that we could be.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: Truthfully, it's fun, Joey.
- 38:18SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: I love I I love Jesus.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: I love watching him do his thing.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: I I mean, I don't have any weird, like, oh, I want him to tell me I did a good job.
- 38:26SPEAKER_04: I feel like he's already told me that.
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: If I died tomorrow, my life's been way better than it I deserve.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: It's fun.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: I don't feel like the world's seeing Jesus represented well.
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: And it's partly because we're not healthy.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: I want the world to see an accurate representation of who Jesus is.
- 38:46SPEAKER_04: And right now, under the current, whatever you want to call it, dispensation or whatever, he's chosen to do that through us.
- 38:52SPEAKER_04: And I believe as we get healthier spirit, soul, and body, we're gonna represent him better.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: And the world's gonna have an actual choice.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: And it just excites me.
- 39:02SPEAKER_04: It it just it just winds me up.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: And to be honest with you, I like fussing.
- 39:07SPEAKER_08: I like I like I like being grumpy.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: I I like I like upsetting the apple cart.
- 39:14SPEAKER_04: I like I I live, I I live more in the future than I do the present and the past.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: And I live believing things could be better.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: You know, that things could, we could, wow, we could try this, and what if we tried that?
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: And what if we what if we had a conversation around this and got these people in the room and these people in the room?
- 39:33SPEAKER_04: I just love things getting better.
- 39:35SPEAKER_06: Been thinking a lot about, I think as of recently, I I lived a lot of my life, I think, in innocence, thinking something along the lines of, you know, the song Jesus Loves Me, This, I know you also think in a very innocent way that Jesus wants me to be happy, you know, obviously.
- 39:53SPEAKER_06: You know, Jesus.
- 39:54SPEAKER_06: And then I as I started listening to some other pastors, I won't mention any names or anything like that, but I started to hear other perspectives.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: And I was like, wait.
- 40:04SPEAKER_06: And I I remember living my life for a long time with this mentality, is like, uh, gee, God's not concerned about my happiness.
- 40:11SPEAKER_06: God's concerned about me doing God's will, basically being connected to God or something like that.
- 40:17SPEAKER_06: But God's not concerned about my happiness, he's concerned about me being in tune with his will.
- 40:21SPEAKER_06: Or now I think I've come full circle, and I do think my definition of happiness have has changed a lot.
- 40:29SPEAKER_06: I see happiness as just like a general word of the condition of our brain on kind of a day-to-day.
- 40:34SPEAKER_06: Thus, I would say for sure God wants to see us happy because happiness, again, for me, means the day-to-day lived experience, peace, joy, how we interpret situations.
- 40:49SPEAKER_06: Uh so it may be semantics as far as the word happiness, but in general, God wants me to be happy.
- 40:56SPEAKER_06: Are you comfortable with that phrase?
- 40:58SPEAKER_06: Or you would say, no, that's important.
- 41:00SPEAKER_06: You need to replace happiness with a different word.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Well, it's got a lot of baggage.
- 41:05SPEAKER_04: And it and it it it's pretty it's pretty fixed in most people's mind.
- 41:09SPEAKER_04: Now, the way you explained it, I would be totally on board with.
- 41:13SPEAKER_04: But that word is important, you would say.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: That's yeah, but it's a it's dangerous to use it in the way you're using it.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: Because fulfilled, I believe God wants us to be fulfilled.
- 41:24SPEAKER_04: That doesn't necessarily mean happy, you know, in the way we typically use it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: But yeah.
- 41:29SPEAKER_06: Would it be accurate to say that God's will for us is to be at peace?
- 41:33SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 41:34SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 41:35SPEAKER_06: Peace be still.
- 41:36SPEAKER_06: Do not be afraid.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: Internally.
- 41:39SPEAKER_06: Deeply internally.
- 41:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:40SPEAKER_04: But if you're if if the if the paradigm of a warfare situation is for real, then I don't know that you could say we're at peace, but internally we're at peace.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: Like, like I like I tell, you know, when I teach on boundaries, I talk about rest.
- 41:55SPEAKER_04: Rest is not the absence of activity, it's an internal place of peacefulness in the midst of activity.
- 42:00SPEAKER_04: So I'd say the same thing.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: God wants us, no matter where we are, to be living with an internal sense of connectedness and peace and security, but it doesn't mean externally things might not be going flipping crazy.
- 42:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think it the the um challenge with the word happy is what we like Chip said, what we attach to it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_08: So I think in our culture, when we say God wants me to be happy, it's the happiness that I chase.
- 42:23SPEAKER_08: Like God wants me to be comfortable, God wants me to laugh, God wants me to go on vacation, God wants me to retire and play golf all day.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: You know, like God wants me to have what I want when sometimes the desires of our heart, if they're not lined up to him, are just idolatry.
- 42:38SPEAKER_08: And so I think when you have an awareness of what is attached to happiness, he wants you to be happy if what you attach to it is intimacy with him and you know, his purpose, which could mean inconvenience.
- 42:51SPEAKER_08: It could mean being at retirement age, but still pursuing his purposes and working and doing these things to further his kingdom, where somebody else would be like happiness is just I'm done in my job, you know?
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: So it's the time to talk like mold on it.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: If you mean what you say, then put some gold on it.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: Face to my face, I get stolen it.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: We don't play like you play, there's no soul on it.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: My ancestors took a toll on it, and it's through their spirits.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: I'm so gold on it.
