- 0:33Speaker 1: all the information that's happened in terms of the draft
- 0:35Speaker 1: free agency. We're coming at you fast and furious, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: it's just going to be back with the team has
- 0:40Speaker 1: been reunited once again.

- 0:43Speaker 1: rip and ride here. But I love the fact you
- 0:45Speaker 1: will be talking a little sit about today, the little
- 0:48Speaker 1: f one little I am.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I am, look at me jumping in. Well have you
- 0:52Speaker 2: seen yet?
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm not seen it yet? No.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Wow. Typically, everybody I talked to that knows you is
- 0:57Speaker 2: like you are single handedly keeping the movie theater system
- 1:00Speaker 2: alive because ebody else.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Wait tilS doing to go to the ticket there's verke.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I'll pay the fourteen fifty Okay.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll pay you pay, you buy six tickets and
- 1:11Speaker 2: just just to keep it afloat. Hey go to movie theaters, folks,
- 1:14Speaker 2: stop sitting at home.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I look forward to JD's thoughts. Hans zimmer spoiler.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Alert, Yeah he did that one, Zimmerman. I can't wait.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Let's get to it. Man, There's there's just so much
- 1:23Speaker 1: shit to get to. I don't know how to get
- 1:25Speaker 1: through this. It's a lot of time. I'm good, buddy good.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I pulled up surprise birthday for my wife for fortieth
- 1:30Speaker 1: birthday parties. We'd be the last week meet. My sister
- 1:32Speaker 1: in law pulled it off, so it was good. That
- 1:33Speaker 1: was my main stress the last time since the last
- 1:36Speaker 1: saw you. I know if you've ever done a surprise
- 1:37Speaker 1: party for jail, But my wife can sniff those out
- 1:39Speaker 1: pretty good, and she kind of had the ink should
- 1:41Speaker 1: have anything the surprise. But when I said let's go
- 1:43Speaker 1: for lunch, she's like, well, what's he doing at dinner?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Clearly he's not just gonna let anything happen. So we
- 1:48Speaker 1: did the lunch and I had to give one of
- 1:49Speaker 1: my house key to one of her friends the night before,
- 1:52Speaker 1: so that it was very odd. The night before I
- 1:53Speaker 1: couldn't get in the house, thankfully to wailness that makes
- 1:56Speaker 1: you open the door for music, yep. And then of
- 1:57Speaker 1: course the alarm. I was terrified. That's why I thought
- 2:00Speaker 1: was gonna happen. I thought her friends would get in
- 2:01Speaker 1: the house with my house key and then forget the alarm,
- 2:04Speaker 1: colding you miss attacks. Also, my wife's just gonna get messaged.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Wiseman in the house. Lock hold on, dude. We pulled
- 2:08Speaker 1: it off.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It was great. Uh is you don't know about my wife?
- 2:12Speaker 2: She is aloof to all things. Surprise surprise. Oh. She
- 2:17Speaker 2: She had no idea And I fumbled the bag for
- 2:20Speaker 2: our engagement probably six times, and she had no idea
- 2:23Speaker 2: that I was proposing to her. And in Egypt, I
- 2:28Speaker 2: almost got detained by Egyptian guard at the Pyramids of
- 2:31Speaker 2: Giza because I was bringing metal through the metal detector,
- 2:35Speaker 2: which is the ring, and I had to like. She's like,
- 2:38Speaker 2: what's going on? And I'm like and I'm like kind
- 2:39Speaker 2: of talking to these Egyptian guys being like, hey, it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: like her ring, and they're like, oh, congrats, congrats. So
- 2:44Speaker 2: they're giving her this one and she's like so they're
- 2:46Speaker 2: yelling at her like hey, congrats, and she's like, what's
- 2:48Speaker 2: going on right now? I'm like, I don't know, honey.
- 2:50Speaker 2: They're just saying congrats. For us visiting the Pyramids. She's like, oh,
- 2:53Speaker 2: that's cool, and then she and all our friends are
- 2:56Speaker 2: like calling bullshit on her, like how did you not know?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Because of the morning I woke up. I was like,
- 3:01Speaker 2: make sure you like dress nice today. She's like, are
- 3:03Speaker 2: you fucking kidding me? Right now? I was like, sure,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you dressed nice, don't dress in sweats or anything. Most
- 3:10Speaker 2: most times the girl knowing that time, but my wife oblivious.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I want to hear more about Kyro. I'd love to
- 3:16Speaker 1: go to Egypt one day. I love that.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You. Yeah, go to Egypt, not Cairo. It's crazy.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Go to Egypt, not Cairo.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Well, Cairo, it's it's wild. It's wild, and I never
- 3:26Speaker 2: see traffic like that in my life, and it's crazy.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It's uh, it's basically New York City during gridlock, but
- 3:32Speaker 2: all day, every day.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Okay, that sounds Awful'm never New York, New Jersey. Oh jesus, Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Lincoln Tunnel, that's what it's like.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, it's like it's like the Lincoln Tunnel.
- 3:42Speaker 1: That's but it's a lot dustier, awful and tallet's include
- 3:45Speaker 1: you how things been. You got a little ghetaway as well.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You also went to Arizona, well, Scott Stale Action for
- 3:49Speaker 1: the Pinchevskis. That was a few weeks ago.
- 3:53Speaker 3: My kid was off school and then we had a
- 3:55Speaker 3: couple of days where he basically had nothing to do.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So my wife's originally from Arizona. We went there for
- 4:00Speaker 3: a few days. It was super hot, triple digits fahrenheit,
- 4:03Speaker 3: but nice.
- 4:04Speaker 2: We had a pool.
- 4:05Speaker 3: It was just nice to get away from the cite
- 4:08Speaker 3: for a little while.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You were up in Juno, you cause do nature walks
- 4:11Speaker 2: in June on a cruise.
- 4:13Speaker 3: From an Alaskan cruise while we were off So that
- 4:16Speaker 3: was beautiful, actually, oh.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Man Alaskan cruise.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, nice, very nice. That's pretty cool. Watch it was.
- 4:23Speaker 1: It was cold, it.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Was actually, you know, pretty chilly for June. And we
- 4:27Speaker 3: enjoyed it. A kind of a family Alaska get away.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Uh saw a bunch of nature. We were we were
- 4:33Speaker 3: all one with nature.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It was.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It was very pertant.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We liked it.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Would you recommend an Alaskan cruise.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I would. I would definitely.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I mean, even if you're not necessarily a cruise person
- 4:44Speaker 3: per se, just getting that far away and being that isolated,
- 4:48Speaker 3: that away from it all and being around just gorgeous,
- 4:51Speaker 3: just you know, wildlife and mountains and all that.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It was nice.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And then we stopped in these small towns where literally,
- 4:57Speaker 3: like the whole downtown was a block and it was
- 5:00Speaker 3: all kind of these little you know, but it was charming.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It was charming. We liked it. Get Away Captain A
- 5:07Speaker 2: have here going.
- 5:11Speaker 1: From now on Telvino's Captain, ahb.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I love it.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He's just just seeking some whale blubber in the middle
- 5:17Speaker 1: of May.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I love Adams, middle of May.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I love that say.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I like unique trips all right, onto hockey.
- 5:23Speaker 1: On the Hockey July first is coming gone to Canada Day.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But in terms of free agency, the Florida Panthers, the
- 5:28Speaker 1: cat came back. You win the title. Jay, Let's just
- 5:31Speaker 1: bring it out. Let's run that baby back. Brad Marshan
- 5:34Speaker 1: six year extension, Sam Bennett eight year extension, Aaron ackbladd
- 5:38Speaker 1: a year extension. Unbelievable. They bring back Thomas no Chick
- 5:41Speaker 1: on a one year deal. So Barkie Kachuk, Reinhart, Bennett
- 5:45Speaker 1: for Hagey Marshaan Lindell Atblad, Seth Jones, Gustav Forsling signed
- 5:49Speaker 1: through twenty thirty. I remember no shred Demurz. Your prediction
- 5:52Speaker 1: had been ac Blad would walk. You did see they
- 5:54Speaker 1: get Bennet eight years and Marsha and you're like, maybe
- 5:56Speaker 1: four years he might go join McKinnon and Colorado, maybe
- 5:59Speaker 1: goes Pittsburgh, Crosby, maybe Toronto. Your reaction to the fact
- 6:02Speaker 1: Bill's you know, goes, no, give me, I.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Give this guy the GM of the Year award. Now
- 6:09Speaker 2: the three peat is very much alive and well they
- 6:13Speaker 2: also bring in Jeff Petrie on the back end, so
- 6:15Speaker 2: they do another you know, one year league minimum to
- 6:19Speaker 2: a dmon that's kind of a little bit older, a
- 6:21Speaker 2: little bit aging, looking for a place to go. I
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's crazy that, you know, you there's not enough credit
- 6:27Speaker 2: that goes to the culture of this group of guys
- 6:29Speaker 2: within that locker room because they it's hard to put
- 6:33Speaker 2: your money where your mouth is and say, hey, we
- 6:35Speaker 2: all want to kumbaya, stay together. We have a great team.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And then as soon as free agency starts and you
- 6:40Speaker 2: starts seeing the dollars fly in, you go, you know
- 6:42Speaker 2: what I'm gonna do. It's best for my family. But
- 6:44Speaker 2: the fact that they're able to marry the two and
- 6:47Speaker 2: this team as a whole loves each other this much.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And you hear them keep talking about the group chats,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, and every team is a group chat. But
- 6:54Speaker 2: these guys are putting their money where their mouth is.
- 6:56Speaker 2: They're taking discounts. Taxes are no taxes. I don't that's
- 6:59Speaker 2: such a that's such an easy, easy thing for other
- 7:02Speaker 2: fans and other teams to kind of pick at and
- 7:05Speaker 2: nitpick at. Was that well the taxes in Florida. I mean, like, listen,
- 7:08Speaker 2: for all these guys to decide to stay there, it's
- 7:11Speaker 2: it's just a testament to what they've built. And listen,
- 7:15Speaker 2: can I blame them? They're staying in South Florida. They
- 7:17Speaker 2: have a winning team, great locker room there, they take
- 7:20Speaker 2: a golf cart to practice, Yeah they have. It's the
- 7:22Speaker 2: best place to probably play in the NHL bar and
- 7:25Speaker 2: a few others. But this is this is just the
- 7:28Speaker 2: gold standard being there. So they have all those things
- 7:31Speaker 2: on top of favorable state income taxes. But you know,
- 7:34Speaker 2: Florida will get you somewhere else with property tax or
- 7:36Speaker 2: the strip clubs anything, so they'll get you where ever
- 7:38Speaker 2: they need to go.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But good point on the Rippers getting you the rippers
- 7:42Speaker 1: will get you there. But the dollar tax all the time,
- 7:45Speaker 1: always it's.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Crazy nuts, it's goddamn wild West out there wild but
- 7:54Speaker 2: but no, it's it's very much like I'll say, I'll
- 7:57Speaker 2: just keep harping on that. It's a credit to that
- 7:59Speaker 2: team and that group of guys and that leadership group
- 8:02Speaker 2: making guys buy in and Bill's I mean, so much
- 8:05Speaker 2: credit goes to him what he's built there and in
- 8:08Speaker 2: the short time he's been there. And I mean, as
- 8:11Speaker 2: this is the team to beat in the East right now,
- 8:14Speaker 2: barring any injuries, this is the Saint You're running it back.
- 8:16Speaker 2: This was categorically the best team in the playoffs last year.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And with all these injuries, they're gonna be healthy. We'll
- 8:23Speaker 2: see how they do. But I man o manner, they
- 8:26Speaker 2: fucking unbelievable again.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Crazy amazing to think that they could be a three
- 8:30Speaker 1: pet after being a wagon. Meantime, the team that they
- 8:32Speaker 1: beat the Oilers, Oh no, breaking up, Scory Perry's signing
- 8:35Speaker 1: with the LA Kings, Connor Brown to New Jersey, John
- 8:38Speaker 1: klingbroog San Jose, Victor Arbinson, Triad to Boston. They bring
- 8:42Speaker 1: back Bousch, Evan Bouchyard and Casperry Kappaanan, but it feels
- 8:45Speaker 1: like jad Edmonton's taking a step back. I still don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: know who their goalie is going to because we and
- 8:49Speaker 1: I both said they need an upgrade not just for
- 8:51Speaker 1: Skinner but along with Skinner all respect to Calvin Pickard.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And we still don't know about Connor McDavid potentially signing
- 8:57Speaker 1: extension could be a lame duck heer and his final
- 8:59Speaker 1: year of his deal.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Your thoughts on the Oilers, Yeah, I mean, I'm sure
- 9:04Speaker 2: they they took some swings at guys, but they just
- 9:07Speaker 2: don't have enough. They had to get rid of some cap.
- 9:09Speaker 2: They're in a little bit of trouble from the years
- 9:10Speaker 2: past and just goes to show you, you know, man,
- 9:15Speaker 2: those you keep looking back and I know they were
- 9:18Speaker 2: in the finals two years in a row, and you
- 9:21Speaker 2: know they lost in six, but it just didn't feel
- 9:23Speaker 2: like they were. Man, they just didn't feel like they
- 9:27Speaker 2: were They were good enough number one, but they haven't
- 9:29Speaker 2: gotten any better. I know they're trying to get this
- 9:31Speaker 2: Isaac Coward. He's supposed to becoming this young kid there.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Apparently it's all but done, but they're waiting to announce
- 9:38Speaker 2: it or they're waiting for the pick to go through.
- 9:39Speaker 2: But he's supposed to be a guy that could potentially help.
- 9:42Speaker 2: You know, Nikolai Eilers is still out there as we're
- 9:45Speaker 2: recording this right now. If he's the last, they might
- 9:51Speaker 2: sign and the next day.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But oh, there's just sign men and Critisal Zarre. I don't
- 9:54Speaker 1: know though that as much fun.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I mean, there's bottom six, and you know, Manjiapane, I
- 9:59Speaker 2: was hoping they'd go after like a Christian de Vorak.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I was hoping they you know, there's talks that Adam
- 10:03Speaker 2: Henriq was gonna get traded. They have a lot to do,
- 10:06Speaker 2: they have a lot to work on. I think they
- 10:08Speaker 2: might be doing kind of what Colorado did last year
- 10:10Speaker 2: and be a mid season retool. They'll just wait till
- 10:13Speaker 2: the season starts because they know Connor and Leon will
- 10:15Speaker 2: they'll win him enough games. But man, if I'm Connor,
- 10:18Speaker 2: and you know, you have that very very honest conversation
- 10:24Speaker 2: with everybody about where he stands, and I thought he
- 10:27Speaker 2: was very well spoken with what he was looking for
- 10:29Speaker 2: and wants from this team and how he wants to
- 10:31Speaker 2: be committed. But they got to kind of commit to him.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And I think if I'm him, seeing what happened in
- 10:36Speaker 2: free agency, that's your first indication of where they're trying
- 10:40Speaker 2: to go. And again, listen, there, it's tough to compete
- 10:43Speaker 2: with other teams that were in just better situation cap
- 10:47Speaker 2: wise than Edmonton was, and they had some contracts that
- 10:49Speaker 2: they had to dump. But if i'm him, I'm reiterating
- 10:52Speaker 2: what I've said countless time since the end of the year.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Sign a wanted to year deal and tell them prove
- 10:57Speaker 2: it to me, because him right now to go and
- 11:00Speaker 2: sign a six year deal would be stupid.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, as you'd predicted before. And I think there's a
- 11:04Speaker 1: lot of sense to what you're saying, is that, listen
- 11:05Speaker 1: to your deal thirty five million, you're gonna get a
- 11:07Speaker 1: ton of cash. At least that way, you're not a
- 11:09Speaker 1: lame dock going into the final year, because you imagine
- 11:11Speaker 1: if he does not sign extension all year, the handwringing,
- 11:13Speaker 1: where's McDavid going, whys he signed, blah blah blah. So hey, fine,
- 11:16Speaker 1: here's your one er, two year deal. Get a little
- 11:18Speaker 1: more cash. But as far as the team improving, don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: necessarily see it happening in the introim. The biggest shock,
- 11:23Speaker 1: No golfers, exactly, go get a goalie. Gelp Skinner up.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Biggest shock with that question, Brockbesser, when I saw a
- 11:29Speaker 1: seven year deal fifty points, seventy five million dollar extension
- 11:32Speaker 1: of Wowsers, the Canucks also paying a ton to Thatcher
- 11:36Speaker 1: demco our buddy Connor Garl and we're totally on board
- 11:39Speaker 1: with that. But this was interesting in terms of a
- 11:41Speaker 1: team which did not perform well last season cluarly they
- 11:44Speaker 1: were under achievers. Rather than mess with the core, they
- 11:47Speaker 1: essentially doubled down and said, these are our guys. We
- 11:49Speaker 1: believe it will be better. Besser had a forty goal
- 11:52Speaker 1: season couple years ago. Last year slept to twenty five
- 11:54Speaker 1: goals fifty points. He was still one of the better
- 11:56Speaker 1: players on the team, so clearly they're invested in him.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But to me, of all the moves, I did not
- 12:00Speaker 1: see seven years, fifty million going to Brock Beser. You.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I mean, it was kind of last minute, and you know,
- 12:06Speaker 2: it's one of those things I think he was talking about.
- 12:09Speaker 2: It was a phone call that happened in the final
- 12:11Speaker 2: hour that allowed this to happen. And I mean, listen,
- 12:14Speaker 2: good on Vancouver getting it done. I think letting him
- 12:16Speaker 2: leave would have been a big mistake. And now that
- 12:19Speaker 2: he's back, I mean, this team's actually not in that
- 12:22Speaker 2: bad of a situation that people think, you know, I
- 12:25Speaker 2: vander Kine. The first year he's on any team is
- 12:28Speaker 2: always the best year, So I think they're gonna get
- 12:30Speaker 2: the most out of him. They dealt with a lot
- 12:32Speaker 2: of injuries last year. And you know, if you look
- 12:34Speaker 2: back two years ago when they you know, almost beat
- 12:37Speaker 2: Edmonton in the in the playoffs, I mean, everything went
- 12:40Speaker 2: right for them that year, and last year everything went
- 12:42Speaker 2: wrong and it's just one of those things. Now hopefully
- 12:44Speaker 2: they can find some balance. Dakota Joshua'll be back healthy.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know, you bring back Connor Garland's a big piece,
- 12:50Speaker 2: Elias Petterson with a new coach, no JT. Miller. How
- 12:54Speaker 2: is Adam Foock going to be able to get him
- 12:56Speaker 2: back playing the way he can do. I think this
- 12:59Speaker 2: team's a playoff team, bubble team maybe, But I I
- 13:04Speaker 2: think like the Anaheim Ducks or I have them ahead
- 13:07Speaker 2: in the Pacific right now. I got the Ducks cruising
- 13:10Speaker 2: right now, cruising USA. But yeah, I think they're gonna
- 13:13Speaker 2: be better. But time will tell. It's an interesting one,
- 13:17Speaker 2: so we'll.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Get to the Ducks in just a second. Of course,
- 13:20Speaker 1: John Gibson they made that move going to Detroit for
- 13:22Speaker 1: Peter Murrazak and picks Michael Granlin signing with Anaheim as well.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But of course the Vegas phrasing out there is Mitch
- 13:26Speaker 1: Marner rights get traded by the Leafs to Vegas, and
- 13:30Speaker 1: then he signs an eight year, ninety six million dollar
- 13:32Speaker 1: contract with the Golden Knights. It's fascinting we think about
- 13:36Speaker 1: because everyone's going to opinion on it. He's a hundred
- 13:38Speaker 1: point player, is an elite defensive forward, but it's points
- 13:41Speaker 1: per game point nine zero the playoffs one one three
- 13:43Speaker 1: in the regular season, a lot of leaf grumbling. There's
- 13:45Speaker 1: a couple of facts. So I think the bottom line
- 13:47Speaker 1: is this though JD. He's a really good player. He'll
- 13:49Speaker 1: make Vegas a lot better and the Leaves are clearly
- 13:52Speaker 1: not as good without him, so they do sign Matthew
- 13:54Speaker 1: nine six year extension. Petranzl's career might be over steps
- 13:57Speaker 1: away from the Golden Knights, who attend to numerous injuries,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but Vegas got to do. Like there's only so many
- 14:02Speaker 1: studs out there. Everyone knew Marner was the best player
- 14:03Speaker 1: available and they got period.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Vegas looks good. They look really good
- 14:09Speaker 2: right now. I think Marner is gonna add a lot
- 14:11Speaker 2: to that team. He's gonna add some speed, he's gonna
- 14:14Speaker 2: add some penalty killing, some offense. He's gonna be a
- 14:17Speaker 2: good compliment to Jack Eichel. I think they're really gonna
- 14:20Speaker 2: make some magic together. I'm gonna be interested to see
- 14:23Speaker 2: who's gonna be the shooter on that line, but you know,
- 14:26Speaker 2: hopefully it is Jack, but they're they're gonna have to
- 14:27Speaker 2: put somebody in, and I think they're gonna put a
- 14:29Speaker 2: Dori Fiev on that side. Guy they can finish. And
- 14:32Speaker 2: he's probably gonna be the byproduct of that is him
- 14:35Speaker 2: gonna be scoring forty to fifty goals next year potentially,
- 14:38Speaker 2: so he can have a big year. So yeah, I listen,
- 14:40Speaker 2: he's gonna get his ass boot when he goes back
- 14:42Speaker 2: to Toronto. I think nothing against you know, we said
- 14:47Speaker 2: it at the end of that round against Toronto and
- 14:50Speaker 2: Florida where we said this, they just that core four
- 14:53Speaker 2: couldn't get it done and you got to pull the trigger.
- 14:56Speaker 2: They pulled it too late. I think but they have
- 14:58Speaker 2: to pull the trigger. And our prediction was that the
- 15:01Speaker 2: only way John Tavaris would stay in toronto's taking a
- 15:03Speaker 2: hometown discount, improving that he's a leader, and he did that,
- 15:07Speaker 2: so congratulations to him. And Mitch Marner was going to
- 15:10Speaker 2: be the guy to leave, and he should have left,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and I don't think he should have stayed. I think
- 15:15Speaker 2: the relationship was untenable. I just don't think the fan
- 15:20Speaker 2: base and him had enough trust in each other. And
- 15:22Speaker 2: you could see it. It came to a head last
- 15:24Speaker 2: year and you saw him in the press conference. He's
- 15:27Speaker 2: smile and he's laughing. Have you ever seen that kind
- 15:30Speaker 2: of emotion from him in five years? The last five
- 15:33Speaker 2: years with the Leafs, he just seemed like a weight
- 15:35Speaker 2: was lifted off his shoulder. So I expect him to
- 15:38Speaker 2: have a big year, but I expect Toronto to still
- 15:41Speaker 2: be a solid, you know, a team that's contending for
- 15:44Speaker 2: a playoff spot and can potentially go deep. So this
- 15:48Speaker 2: is gonna be one. It's it's tough to say what's
- 15:52Speaker 2: gonna happen to the Leafs, but I think you know,
- 15:55Speaker 2: the Kneelanders, the Matthews getting Mitch Marner away and he
- 16:00Speaker 2: is a big piece of that team, but it was
- 16:02Speaker 2: a lot of noise there, so I'm gonna be anxious
- 16:04Speaker 2: to see how they kind of handle this and move forward.
- 16:08Speaker 2: But yeah, Vegas is kind of right. The Pacific is
- 16:10Speaker 2: going to be very tough next year right now, And
- 16:13Speaker 2: you know, because you can never discount Edmonton. Just by
- 16:17Speaker 2: the way Connor and Leon play, you got LA's gonna
- 16:20Speaker 2: be good again. They picked up some pieces. I mean,
- 16:23Speaker 2: I think they'll be just okay, but actually yeah, actually
- 16:26Speaker 2: don't love their pickups. But anyway, sorry, and then Anaheim
- 16:29Speaker 2: is going to be great. So I think it's going
- 16:31Speaker 2: to be an interesting little run there in the Pacific,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but Vegas will most certainly be at the top again.
- 16:36Speaker 1: The other moves you mentioned the fact you're bullish on
- 16:38Speaker 1: the Ducks. So Gibson goes to Detroit, they get rid
- 16:40Speaker 1: of him for Peter Mrazakin picks Michael Grantlin's signing with
- 16:43Speaker 1: the Ducks, big pickup. Yeah, no, adopts and trade to Montreal,
- 16:47Speaker 1: signing an eight year extension with the Habs. Let's talk Anaheim.
- 16:49Speaker 1: You said before paper Beek was going to be aggressive.
- 16:51Speaker 1: He obviously has a big time coach now Joel Quinnville
- 16:53Speaker 1: Anahem looks like they're poison make some moves. You like
- 16:55Speaker 1: the Grandlin pickup.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I love the Grandlin pickup. I love they're gonna get
- 16:59Speaker 2: Mason McTavish lined up. I think down the middle they're
- 17:01Speaker 2: very solid. Back on treading Trevor Siegers too. By the way,
- 17:05Speaker 2: people get rid of him. He get rid of that cancer.
- 17:07Speaker 2: He's out, so which is great. You get rid of
- 17:10Speaker 2: a guy that didn't necessarily just didn't fit. I thought
- 17:13Speaker 2: getting rid of him was a big, big deal. So
- 17:16Speaker 2: I'm interested to see how that works out for Zegres
- 17:20Speaker 2: and Philly. But I think Joe Quenvill's got the team
- 17:22Speaker 2: that he that he needs, he wants. I'm sure they'll
- 17:25Speaker 2: add some pieces. But you get Lucas Dostall. He gets
- 17:28Speaker 2: the net. Uh, he earned it. He's a great goaltender.
- 17:31Speaker 2: On the back end, they got some veterans that can
- 17:34Speaker 2: hit with the Goddess and the trubas. I know they're
- 17:36Speaker 2: a little bit older, but listen, put putting your toes
- 17:39Speaker 2: in the sand and seeing the sun every day. He'll
- 17:41Speaker 2: keep that body nice and loose. And they got some
- 17:44Speaker 2: They got some really guys. Jackson Lacombe coming up, you
- 17:47Speaker 2: got Carlson. I mean, there's a lot to love for
- 17:51Speaker 2: this team right now, and I do think that they're
- 17:54Speaker 2: going to be very exciting. They're going to play good
- 17:56Speaker 2: brand of hockey, and you know, it's all who's behind
- 17:59Speaker 2: the bench too, And I think Joe Quinn was gonna
- 18:01Speaker 2: get the most out of these guys. But I think
- 18:02Speaker 2: Mikail Grant that was a sneaky big pick up for
- 18:05Speaker 2: this team, and he was at times one of the
- 18:07Speaker 2: for most of that playoffs, one of the best players
- 18:09Speaker 2: for the Dallas Stars. So it's gonna be a big,
- 18:13Speaker 2: big season for Anaheim. And I think Pat Verbeek is
- 18:16Speaker 2: expecting a push for the playoffs and that's my dark
- 18:19Speaker 2: course to make the playoffs. Still, and I mean.
- 18:21Speaker 1: They had a ton of they had a ton of
- 18:22Speaker 1: cap space, I mean thirty five million going into this,
- 18:24Speaker 1: so they knew they could actually spend a little bit.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Mace mctab's only twenty two years of age, dostals twenty five,
- 18:29Speaker 1: so as far as like young players looking to grow,
- 18:31Speaker 1: and you're right about secrets, it's amazing thinking. But he was,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, top three for the Calder and was run
- 18:35Speaker 1: up for the Caulder a couple years ago, but in
- 18:36Speaker 1: the last couple of seasons just fell out of favor
- 18:38Speaker 1: with the coaching staff. Just wasn't feeling it. And he'll
- 18:40Speaker 1: get a chance at least in Philly. Jad he'll be
- 18:42Speaker 1: playing for a contract, So at least that's a good
- 18:44Speaker 1: newer and Philly takes a shot with pailing a couple
- 18:46Speaker 1: of picks. As you said, it wasn't gonna work out
- 18:47Speaker 1: for Anahem, Philly at least takes a flyer on him.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, can you imagine Rick Talckett having a
- 18:52Speaker 2: deal with Meetchkoff and Ziegres doing the fucking Michigan and
- 18:57Speaker 2: Jamie Drysdale there too. They're they're they're big, but they're
- 18:59Speaker 2: big buddies.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Now.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I think it's listen, change. The scenery is good. I
- 19:03Speaker 2: make it ok about, I said, okay answer and degrets. No,
- 19:06Speaker 2: I just think it didn't fit anymore. Yeah, And sometimes
- 19:09Speaker 2: when the fit doesn't work, You know, there are times
- 19:12Speaker 2: in the NHL where the grasses and greener and guys
- 19:15Speaker 2: leave early, and there's times where you need to move
- 19:17Speaker 2: on and you don't realize that. Just taking that exhale
- 19:20Speaker 2: and getting with a new group of guys and a
- 19:23Speaker 2: new coaching staff and just having a fresh start is
- 19:26Speaker 2: enough if you're you know, listen, at one point he
- 19:30Speaker 2: was a very highly touted prospect and a guy that
- 19:32Speaker 2: was poised to potentially be a point per game player.
- 19:35Speaker 2: So for me, it's like he can find that game.
- 19:38Speaker 2: He's just got to, you know, put the work in
- 19:41Speaker 2: and is if he's willing to put the work in,
- 19:43Speaker 2: Rick Talkin will work with him and help him out
- 19:46Speaker 2: in this. You know, Flyers organization will really really really
- 19:50Speaker 2: you know, can turn the corner here and do something
- 19:53Speaker 2: and put a consistencies and together we.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Do a great job at HL network on research department,
- 19:59Speaker 1: as you know, JD, Lawrence Golds and the whole crew
- 20:01Speaker 1: when they're looking. I was looking at the packet here
- 20:02Speaker 1: the top twenty five potential d targets number one at
- 20:06Speaker 1: least on this.
- 20:06Speaker 2: List, Jason, Yeah, to Burn's coming back.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Yes, well, Brent Burns is third, and you're younger than him,
- 20:11Speaker 1: so why not number one on that list? Last left,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Gavrikov GAVERRIKOFV signs for seven years of the Rangers to
- 20:17Speaker 1: become Adam Fox's running mate. The Rangers did not have
- 20:20Speaker 1: a first round pick. So as far as the draft
- 20:22Speaker 1: is concerned, they run non entity. But Gaverkov signs with them.
- 20:24Speaker 1: What do you make of that move? As I said,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'll be there paired with fox.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Well, they brought in some help for Foxy, and that's
- 20:32Speaker 2: what I was saying last year. They needed somebody defensively
- 20:35Speaker 2: that could help them and take a little bit of
- 20:37Speaker 2: the load off. I think they did that, but you know,
- 20:39Speaker 2: they lose. They Tradekeandre Miller. I think it's a great trade.
- 20:42Speaker 2: They got a good return in terms of draft picks
- 20:46Speaker 2: in draft capital, but they I think it's gonna be
- 20:49Speaker 2: a tough sledding year for them more than people think. Well,
- 20:52Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a difficult year. I think
- 20:53Speaker 2: they lost a lot of pieces. They're gonna be expecting
- 20:56Speaker 2: a lot of young guys to step up. This is
- 20:58Speaker 2: gonna be a very different looking New York Rangers team,
- 21:01Speaker 2: and I think it's gonna take some time now how
- 21:04Speaker 2: Sullivan can put the pieces in place there. And I
- 21:06Speaker 2: think he can very much put the structure that they need.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But I think it's I'm a little nervous. I don't
- 21:12Speaker 2: love the look of this team right now, but I
- 21:14Speaker 2: know I think Drey had to make some decisions and
- 21:16Speaker 2: make some tough decisions on bringing in draft capital and
- 21:20Speaker 2: and maybe getting rid of some of the contracts that
- 21:22Speaker 2: were just a little bit too hanging too heavily. And
- 21:26Speaker 2: he had a big decision to make with ca Andre Miller,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and he makes it. But I think, you know, Carolina,
- 21:31Speaker 2: it's getting a great, a high ceiling player that needs
- 21:36Speaker 2: of again. This seems to be like the summer of
- 21:37Speaker 2: fresh starts, and this is a fresh start for him.
- 21:39Speaker 2: But yeah, I think New York It's gonna be gonna
- 21:42Speaker 2: be tough sled next year.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Amazing to think about the fact Presidon Trophy team a
- 21:45Speaker 1: couple of years ago, this year a big disappointment, and
- 21:47Speaker 1: you think next year could be tough sledding again before
- 21:49Speaker 1: they kind of work their way up the map. Other
- 21:50Speaker 1: moves here, whatever thoughts you have. As I mentioned, Dobson,
- 21:52Speaker 1: the Habs faccess on the Stars a three year deal,
- 21:56Speaker 1: dadding off with the Devils for a year, Charlie Coyle
- 21:58Speaker 1: traded to Columbus, Jonathan drew In to the Oiler Island
- 22:02Speaker 1: excuse me for a couple of years. JJ Petka to
- 22:04Speaker 1: the man and of those moves that stay out to you.
- 22:06Speaker 2: No, I mean Peterca. You look at Paterca and the Mammoth,
- 22:09Speaker 2: Josh Jones and Michael Kesseling. I'm a big fan of
- 22:13Speaker 2: Michael Kesseling and have worked with him a little bit,
- 22:15Speaker 2: and I think Buffalo did a good move by you know,
- 22:18Speaker 2: you had to give up something. I think the ceiling
- 22:21Speaker 2: for kessel Ring and what they needed. And listen, it's
- 22:26Speaker 2: not always somebody gets fleeced and somebody wins. Sometimes both
- 22:30Speaker 2: teams can win. I think, listen, they got a good
- 22:32Speaker 2: player in Paterca. Do I think it's what they needed? Utah, No,
- 22:36Speaker 2: I don't think they needed another skilled forward. They had
- 22:39Speaker 2: enough of those. They think they needed middle depth and
- 22:42Speaker 2: at a high end centerman. They weren't able to secure that.
- 22:45Speaker 2: So they have a lot of good wingers. I just
- 22:49Speaker 2: don't know. They lose Buke's dad. I just don't love
- 22:52Speaker 2: what they did, and they give up Josh jon who's
- 22:54Speaker 2: a good a good two way winger can play up
- 22:58Speaker 2: and down the lineup, potentially as a ceiling to be
- 23:00Speaker 2: a top six, but he's a great, you know, valuable
- 23:03Speaker 2: versatile player. Michael Kessering was second and d scoring on
- 23:07Speaker 2: that Utah team when Sergachev was out and before Sergachev
- 23:11Speaker 2: came back and they were high up in the standings,
- 23:13Speaker 2: Michael Kessering was the guy they were going to playing
- 23:15Speaker 2: twenty five minutes a night, so he has the capabilities
- 23:18Speaker 2: to play eighteen minutes to twenty five minutes. I think
- 23:20Speaker 2: it's a big, big move and it really shores up
- 23:24Speaker 2: their top four in Buffalo, So I think it's a
- 23:27Speaker 2: good move. I think Buffalo is, you know, really locking
- 23:31Speaker 2: up some pieces. Ryan McCloud resigns there, and I just
- 23:35Speaker 2: think it's a It's a team that could surprise some
- 23:38Speaker 2: people next year. Now they it's only a win for
- 23:41Speaker 2: this team when they make the playoffs. So if they
- 23:43Speaker 2: just have a good season and miss it by two points,
- 23:46Speaker 2: it's the same Buffalo Sabers team. But I like to
- 23:48Speaker 2: move by both teams, more so for Buffalo than for Utah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: And last thought for you again, Nikolai Eelers, according to
- 23:56Speaker 1: the NHL Network Research Department, the top free agent out
- 23:58Speaker 1: there a six billion dollar cap it. He turns twenty
- 24:01Speaker 1: nine years of age. Obviously was a key piece of
- 24:03Speaker 1: Winnipeg Jets. Do you want to prediction on Nikolai Elers.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Oh depends, you know, a guy like that, a European
- 24:11Speaker 2: guy sometimes always favors a little bit more on the
- 24:14Speaker 2: East Coast, family, easier travel. Uh, there's a few teams.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I could see him, you know, I could see the man,
- 24:23Speaker 2: you know, if the Rangers go and snag him up.
- 24:25Speaker 2: But I don't know if the cap space. I'm not
- 24:26Speaker 2: a super huge like. I don't follow the cap a ton.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I'm just like where I think guys should fit. But
- 24:35Speaker 2: I mean, looksten An Eilers could flip the script and
- 24:38Speaker 2: go over to in La or an Anaheim or or
- 24:41Speaker 2: you know, you got to think that. You gotta think
- 24:44Speaker 2: that Edmonton's and there's a lot of teams. He's a
- 24:46Speaker 2: guy that I'd said before, I like him more than
- 24:51Speaker 2: Mitch Marner for the money that he'll kind of command.
- 24:54Speaker 2: He's gonna probably command a ten million dollar deal. I
- 24:56Speaker 2: like that way more than paying Mitch Marner thirteen million.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I just think over time, he's just a winger that
- 25:02Speaker 2: can skate. He's not scared. Gets in the corners. He
- 25:05Speaker 2: did have he does have some injury issues, but I
- 25:08Speaker 2: think he's fixed it a little bit. He has had
- 25:11Speaker 2: some healthy years but plays power play plays penalty kill
- 25:15Speaker 2: and uh can can produce in the playoffs, So that's
- 25:18Speaker 2: a difference for me. I think there's a lot of
- 25:20Speaker 2: teams that could benefit from him. And if I just
- 25:23Speaker 2: gonna go and take a swing, I mean, Toronto's not
- 25:25Speaker 2: out of the mix either, No.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Amazing if the leaves get Elers. Just my last thought
- 25:30Speaker 1: on this, I was looking at the overall list and
- 25:32Speaker 1: we were talking about getting a skinner help in the Oilers.
- 25:34Speaker 1: As far as goalies, there really weren't like big guys available,
- 25:37Speaker 1: right Jake Allen, Damn Ladar signs with the Flyers. Yeah,
- 25:41Speaker 1: g orgyp samsonof Vanishek, But there's really not.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's tight. You're gonna have to get somebody young
- 25:48Speaker 2: or I don't know, there's I think the time to
- 25:53Speaker 2: do it was last year, in the year before that,
- 25:55Speaker 2: and they you know, sometimes you just wait too long
- 25:57Speaker 2: to pull the trigger and and I just feel like
- 26:00Speaker 2: after what we saw last year in the finals and
- 26:03Speaker 2: how he got pulled twice at two different times, I
- 26:06Speaker 2: think you had to address that. So but they didn't
- 26:08Speaker 2: really do much. I don't know. I'm worried about Edmonton
- 26:12Speaker 2: a bit. I'm a little bit worried. I'm nervous.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Hopefully, hopefully the draft ends when it comes to Canada
- 26:18Speaker 1: as we uh unfortunate to live through that again. All right,
- 26:21Speaker 1: good stuff breaking down all the transactions. Coming up next
- 26:23Speaker 1: being JD breakdown the biggest winner from the NHL Draft.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Spoiler alert, it was not the format. We'll talk about
- 26:29Speaker 1: the players coming up next. All right, NHL Draft is
- 26:44Speaker 1: a ton of fun to watch from Los Angeles. Uh. Interesting,
- 26:47Speaker 1: Before we get to the picks, I want JD's thoughts
- 26:49Speaker 1: on the way we'd go down. So what's this term?
- 26:51Speaker 1: They use decentral line, so no one's there, so it
- 26:53Speaker 1: takes a lot longer, right for the guy gets picked.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I love the hug to Betman, right, Roger Goodell style.
- 26:59Speaker 1: And then they got let me let me walk you
- 27:00Speaker 1: back here, And all of a sudden, there's you know,
- 27:02Speaker 1: Danny Breer and Keith Jones talking to Porter Marton. There's
- 27:05Speaker 1: the brass. I got to be honesty, buddy, I know we.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Worked at the NHL.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I got it felt the awkward to me. I'm missing
- 27:10Speaker 1: the guys in person.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Right. Here's here's what I'll say to that. The GM's
- 27:16Speaker 2: voted for this. Gary Bettman said all right, you guys
- 27:21Speaker 2: want it, all right, let's do it awkward not a
- 27:25Speaker 2: fan when it looks like you're walking into the Fortress
- 27:27Speaker 2: of Solitude like you're in Superman talking to Kyel and
- 27:30Speaker 2: and the huge you know what I mean, That's what
- 27:33Speaker 2: it felt like. And then it's like, no one advised.
- 27:37Speaker 2: The GM's like, hey, let the moderator talk first. Yes,
- 27:41Speaker 2: and then like also like maybe as you're walking, the
- 27:43Speaker 2: kid be like, hey, just just we'll kind of tee
- 27:45Speaker 2: you up. Don't worry about it, like just like don't
- 27:48Speaker 2: like half the like three of the first five kids
- 27:50Speaker 2: walk and be like hey, what's up. And then they'd
- 27:52Speaker 2: be like an awkward pause, and the GM would be like, oh, hi,
- 27:55Speaker 2: how are you. They'd be like and then everybody'd be
- 27:58Speaker 2: like looking, and then there's like an echo and I'm like,
- 28:00Speaker 2: great to see you. And then and then I can't,
- 28:03Speaker 2: you know, I can't. I have to poke fun at
- 28:06Speaker 2: at at the Sharks where they had everybody hold Michael
- 28:11Speaker 2: Visa goes up and there's sixty people standing and it
- 28:13Speaker 2: looks like they're taking a family picture. And I just
- 28:15Speaker 2: was like, I love the Sharks. I just like I
- 28:18Speaker 2: was like, come on guys like, come on, don't do
- 28:22Speaker 2: things just to do things. Come on, don't do things
- 28:25Speaker 2: just to do things.
- 28:26Speaker 1: But a great point view. Don't rag on Gary, this
- 28:28Speaker 1: is what they wanted. Fine, give you guys what you want.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Gary did not want this and that I've and you know,
- 28:34Speaker 2: I think he wanted to keep it the way it was.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I mean, I was at the draft in the sphere
- 28:42Speaker 2: that was absolutely incredible where you could just walk over
- 28:45Speaker 2: to guys and tap on their shoulder. I know that
- 28:46Speaker 2: there's more calmness for the gms to make moves, but
- 28:53Speaker 2: I don't think anything really other than you know, making
- 28:56Speaker 2: the moves of you know, the draft. You're trading draft
- 29:01Speaker 2: picks and that that kind of gets a little bit squirrely.
- 29:03Speaker 2: So you get a really bound. It's around and you
- 29:05Speaker 2: have to be you have to have a war room
- 29:07Speaker 2: set up. So I understand there's a little bit of
- 29:08Speaker 2: a disconnect there and I get it. But listen, they
- 29:11Speaker 2: tried it.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I don't think it was right.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I don't love it. It extended it. It was too long.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yes, four and a half hours is crazy for the
- 29:18Speaker 1: first three hours.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Not a round of golf here. This is just for
- 29:20Speaker 2: picking some kids and everybody already knows who they're picking. Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 2: other than like there's a couple, you know, some people
- 29:27Speaker 2: throw people off on the board, and there's like some
- 29:29Speaker 2: random trades and stuff. But like the first five, it's
- 29:32Speaker 2: like you can just hand in a card and be like, yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 2: you know, probatherly than James Hagen's you dropped down.
- 29:37Speaker 1: But I was about say, the only surprise he was
- 29:38Speaker 1: Hagen slipping. But let's talk about Matthew Schaeffer, who was
- 29:40Speaker 1: a great, great story. I mean, he hit a tough year,
- 29:43Speaker 1: various elements. You only played seventeen games last year, miss
- 29:45Speaker 1: nine games started the year due to mono. He was
- 29:47Speaker 1: injured in the World Junior's missed three plus months due
- 29:49Speaker 1: to broken collar bone. But everyone anticipated he'd go number
- 29:52Speaker 1: one overall and gone through at a hard times at
- 29:54Speaker 1: a young age. He lost his mom, Jennifer, to breast
- 29:56Speaker 1: cancer February of twenty twenty four.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Says he says a.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Prayer before every gamulor no. He misses her and loves her.
- 30:01Speaker 1: You know, mom used to play hockey with the kids,
- 30:02Speaker 1: strapping on goalie pads at time, and it's obviously been
- 30:06Speaker 1: a lot to go through it. It was an emotional moment.
- 30:08Speaker 1: He goes up there, obviously the tears are coming down,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and the jersey even has the patch there as far
- 30:12Speaker 1: as you know, hockey cares for cancer. So classic move
- 30:14Speaker 1: by the Islanders and a really cool moment for Matthew Shaeffer.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's hard not to have a tears
- 30:21Speaker 2: streaming down your face and get emotional hearing that, you know,
- 30:25Speaker 2: especially being an athlete, and you know our moms are
- 30:29Speaker 2: so integral to our careers, and it was just such
- 30:31Speaker 2: a sad, you know, joyous moment. They're very bittersweet, I'm
- 30:35Speaker 2: sure for him, and you just saw the emotion pouring
- 30:39Speaker 2: out of him, and for sure he held it together
- 30:42Speaker 2: probably as best he could. But just an amazing moment
- 30:45Speaker 2: for him and his family. I know there's some tough times,
- 30:48Speaker 2: you know, You've just and I've heard him speak multiple
- 30:51Speaker 2: times down interviews and watch a lot of his interviews.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Just such a well spoken, outspoken young man and just
- 30:58Speaker 2: understands and is so thoughtful in his conversation too. And
- 31:02Speaker 2: he looks you in the eye when he's talking to you,
- 31:04Speaker 2: and he's just very very mature for his age, and
- 31:08Speaker 2: he's got a bright future ahead of him. I'm very
- 31:10Speaker 2: bullish on him as a player and as a human being.
- 31:12Speaker 2: And it's just those stories that you root for in
- 31:15Speaker 2: the NHL, and you know, not listen, everybody has, you know,
- 31:20Speaker 2: loss in their life and it happens and it's part
- 31:22Speaker 2: of life. But you know, this kind of thing at
- 31:24Speaker 2: a young age and in that moment is just you know, magnified,
- 31:28Speaker 2: especially him being such a highly toted prospect. So he
- 31:31Speaker 2: handled it so well with grace and made his mom proud,
- 31:35Speaker 2: I'm sure, and his billet mom proud, and that whole
- 31:37Speaker 2: family should just be so proud of the man that
- 31:40Speaker 2: he is and the young man he is. And we
- 31:42Speaker 2: can kind of only help our children and kids have
- 31:45Speaker 2: that kind of strength mentally and emotional wherewithal to kind
- 31:51Speaker 2: of just be in the moment like that. So, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 2: credit to credit to the Islanders forgetting a really, really
- 31:57Speaker 2: good one and it's going to be a foundational piece
- 32:00Speaker 2: for your team and a foundational leader just by listening
- 32:02Speaker 2: to talk for a long time.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but two months for his mom, Jennifer passed away.
- 32:06Speaker 1: His mom, Emily died. You mentioned the fact looks every
- 32:08Speaker 1: in the eye. Our buddy, Mike Kelly tweeted that when
- 32:10Speaker 1: Shaeffer talked to everybody at the desk, he shook hands with
- 32:13Speaker 1: like all the audio guys, the camera guys, right, just
- 32:14Speaker 1: a little move, they just show little class.
- 32:16Speaker 2: He's clearly a good kids my move.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he can shake sail over the crew. Yeah, a
- 32:23Speaker 1: virtual handshake. One of the one of the drafts, Prognoscio
- 32:27Speaker 1: says schaff is the number one defense prospect in this
- 32:29Speaker 1: draft class. He's the complete package, playing a dynamic style
- 32:32Speaker 1: that generates results and influences the outcome of games. Easily
- 32:35Speaker 1: projects as a future All star in the NHL. Natural
- 32:38Speaker 1: born leader who oozes charisma. Defensive intensity has improved considerably
- 32:42Speaker 1: this year. Elite skater, elite processor.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Matthew Shafm. We had Mark tier Dano on the network
- 32:48Speaker 2: and he skates with Shaeffer and he was like, this
- 32:52Speaker 2: kid's for real. And that's high praise coming from Mark
- 32:54Speaker 2: tier Dano. Uh, you know Noris Trophy winner. He was like,
- 32:59Speaker 2: he gets it. He knows how to play both sides
- 33:01Speaker 2: of the park, can skate very quick, fast, good hands,
- 33:04Speaker 2: Uh yeah, great stick. Oh I love a good poke
- 33:07Speaker 2: check and he's got that in spades.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Favorite pregame meal Matthew shav chicken, posta and broccoli. Also
- 33:13Speaker 1: needs a two hour and nap before games. That sounds
- 33:14Speaker 1: like a hockey player enjoys singing and dancing. Is a
- 33:17Speaker 1: huge Rihanna fan. From there we go to.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Mike Gana worst concert I ever been to my life.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Oh really, lips played lipsyacing the entire time.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Yep. She middle of a song, reached down as the
- 33:31Speaker 2: track was going over and like took a sip of water.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Oh Jess.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I was like, just I should leave right now. I
- 33:41Speaker 2: have contact hies, so I have a stone ont of minds.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I couldn't move.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I want to thought on your boy, Michael Mesa going
- 33:47Speaker 1: to the Sharks the pride of Oakville, Ontario. What if
- 33:49Speaker 1: nine players ever to receive CHL exceptional status. He had
- 33:52Speaker 1: two point oh six points per game this year, the
- 33:54Speaker 1: highest by an under eighteen Ohl skaters since Connor McDavid
- 33:57Speaker 1: grow up. A huge Leaves fan, patterns game after Mitch Marner.
- 34:00Speaker 1: As a kid, wore sixty six and he loved Mario Lemux.
- 34:03Speaker 1: When not playing HOWK golf, Billiard's paintball, and learning to
- 34:06Speaker 1: play the guitar and my favorite nugget is uncle Lucio
- 34:09Speaker 1: played hockey in several Olympic Games for Italy. What do
- 34:12Speaker 1: you got on Michael Mesic all the Sharks?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Highly skilled, iley skilled forward, great release that Listen. There
- 34:20Speaker 2: was a lot of talk of like, will it be
- 34:22Speaker 2: somebody else? Will it be Hagans, will it be Martone?
- 34:25Speaker 2: You know, do the Sharks go off the board? They
- 34:26Speaker 2: took the best player available at two smart play by
- 34:29Speaker 2: Mike Career and that staff. Uh, that's the guy you
- 34:32Speaker 2: need to bring in. They have some very, very highly
- 34:35Speaker 2: skilled forwards right now, and they could turn their attention
- 34:39Speaker 2: now to fixing the defense and making sure that they
- 34:42Speaker 2: bring in a bunch of young or older guys because
- 34:46Speaker 2: they're they're really rounding out their offensive forward group there.
- 34:48Speaker 2: And he's going to be a huge piece and he's
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think he's gonna have an immediate impact for this team.
- 34:53Speaker 2: And yeah, he's a good player of good size on
- 34:55Speaker 2: him too. I like it a lot. And San Jose Man,
- 34:59Speaker 2: I think the turnarounds me a lot quicker than people think.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I like it your Sharks, let's go by the way.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I want to also mention Caleb Danioier because in terms
- 35:06Speaker 1: of the most awkward moments in terms of talking with that.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Was hysterical, so weird.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's up?
- 35:12Speaker 2: Of course the Utah Bill Armstrong.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Then, by the way, Caleb Danioie, he said his favorite
- 35:18Speaker 1: activity outside of hockey is fishing. Favorite protein the Montreal
- 35:21Speaker 1: Alouette's favorite subject in school English because it's easier than French.
- 35:26Speaker 1: How about that tal like that?
- 35:27Speaker 2: There you go Caleb.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Favorite yeah, played from monked favorite pump up song. By
- 35:33Speaker 1: the way, Burning Heart by Survivor, which is also a
- 35:35Speaker 1: Rocky four tune. There it goes, love Porter Martungle to
- 35:38Speaker 1: the Flyers. He needed some size, needs some scale. Obviously
- 35:41Speaker 1: really happy with that pick. Some comps to Corey Perry,
- 35:44Speaker 1: I heard Kevin Weeks sing about the badcast. Some people
- 35:46Speaker 1: say maybe more like a right handed Matthew could chuck,
- 35:47Speaker 1: but looks like a really good player. You mentioned Hagen's
- 35:50Speaker 1: though he was the guy that at one point, I
- 35:52Speaker 1: think you're right to say he wasn't gonna go first.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Different kind of new it with Shaffer, but a lot
- 35:55Speaker 1: of people have him going third. Potentially obviously played at
- 35:57Speaker 1: Boston College. Some comps to Clayton Keller slides a little
- 36:00Speaker 1: bit like it wasn't you know, it wasn't sirdhurt Sanders,
- 36:02Speaker 1: but did fall to seventh to like he went to
- 36:06Speaker 1: the third round, but still falling to the Boston Bruins
- 36:08Speaker 1: at seven. I was surprised your reacts to the fact
- 36:10Speaker 1: Hagen's who clue looks a really good player, just didn't
- 36:12Speaker 1: go in the top six.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I got to interview this guy twice. I tell you
- 36:17Speaker 2: what you want to talk about a kid that maintains
- 36:20Speaker 2: eye contact and is very well spoken and is very
- 36:23Speaker 2: very polished, so much so that I think him falling
- 36:28Speaker 2: that far as a mistake. He's very mature for his age,
- 36:32Speaker 2: and I really liked what I saw, very very firm handshake,
- 36:37Speaker 2: very good, very thoughtful in what he's saying and what
- 36:39Speaker 2: he's speaking, you know, really acknowledges his family, but acknowledges
- 36:44Speaker 2: that he's willing to do anything or do anything for
- 36:48Speaker 2: the team. You know, obviously, listen, those are the cliche answers,
- 36:51Speaker 2: but you know when a guy's bullshitting and when of
- 36:53Speaker 2: guy's being honest. And I do think he's going to
- 36:56Speaker 2: take this as a slight and really use it to
- 36:58Speaker 2: prepare himself. So I think Boston somehow luckily fell ass
- 37:03Speaker 2: backwards to a great talent and then managed to after
- 37:07Speaker 2: they just screwed the pooch all year. I think they
- 37:09Speaker 2: go lucky. I think they got lucky getting him, and
- 37:12Speaker 2: it's a good pick that they fell to him, and
- 37:15Speaker 2: I think he's a good future, very very good player
- 37:18Speaker 2: for this team.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Hagen's grew up Suffolk County, Long Island, big Islanders fan
- 37:21Speaker 1: with to tons of Ales games. As a kid, John
- 37:23Speaker 1: Tavares was his favorite player, played football lacrosse as a
- 37:26Speaker 1: kid during the summers. He's the captain of a fishing
- 37:28Speaker 1: charter called Captain lou Fleet. He's the toughest task in
- 37:32Speaker 1: the boat by the ways, untangling fishing lines. But clearly
- 37:35Speaker 1: he's a guy who likes to get after it. Loves
- 37:37Speaker 1: country music, especially Sam Barber and Florida Georgia Line. Didn't
- 37:40Speaker 1: know they were big in Long Island.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yes, Dad makes him work the boat still to this
- 37:44Speaker 2: day when it's pretty funny. Yeah, yeah, all right.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So that was his draft, honestly, a ton of fun.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Congrats all the players who were drafted, and I'm with you.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll get back to the format we've seen in
- 37:52Speaker 1: the past, but they tried something different. Hope of the
- 37:54Speaker 1: players who wished the much success moving forward, who's.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Your biggest winner of the draft?
- 37:59Speaker 1: I think it's the Islanders, honestly, not just getting obviously Shaeffer,
- 38:02Speaker 1: but three picks over all the first round.
- 38:04Speaker 2: They did good. They picked all good players. Yeah, so
- 38:07Speaker 2: Rachool on the way, Yeah, they're good. Matthew Darsh is
- 38:10Speaker 2: cooking right now, Gas. I don't know if you know
- 38:12Speaker 2: that he's cooking, Chef Darsh with the pots on.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Nothing like a summer blockbuster being billed as the greatest
- 38:26Speaker 1: car racing movie of all time F one starring Brad Pitt.
- 38:30Speaker 1: This is the that was the hype for it and
- 38:32Speaker 1: the reason why. Of course you they go, Well, Lewis
- 38:34Speaker 1: Hamilton's involved with the great F one drivers ever. He
- 38:36Speaker 1: was their special consultant. Joseph Kasinski directed, of course, he
- 38:39Speaker 1: did Top On Maverick, so perhaps the greatest car racing
- 38:42Speaker 1: movie ever. JAVIERD. Bergdam giving a little gravitas as well.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I haven't seen it yet, eager to see at some
- 38:47Speaker 1: point you're all over. Did just see it an imax
- 38:49Speaker 1: in Arizona?
- 38:50Speaker 2: I did me and and uh wait this is pre
- 38:54Speaker 2: Italy for her?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Or after really okay.
- 38:56Speaker 2: After it. Yeah, she's she's not. It's the summer of
- 38:59Speaker 2: jail right now, the summer of jail. Yeah, having the
- 39:02Speaker 2: hell of a summer. It's all research. Everything's research, I
- 39:07Speaker 2: know it. We kind of both looked at each other's like,
- 39:10Speaker 2: how do you feel about it? And uh, I liked it.
- 39:12Speaker 2: It's a good popcorn flick. You know. It's a lot
- 39:15Speaker 2: like Top Gun The New You know that. It's just
- 39:17Speaker 2: very loud. The music's great, gets you fired up. Hans
- 39:21Speaker 2: Zimmerman my friend. I love him. Anything you give me.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Hans zimmer on the on the I just would love
- 39:27Speaker 2: to pay him to serenade me for a night.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I love.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Tones. He Brad Pitt plays. Brad Pitt plays like kind
- 39:40Speaker 2: of a sexy hobo that has some like weight to
- 39:44Speaker 2: his life. And you know that he does the same thing.
- 39:46Speaker 2: He's eating in half the scenes and he plays he
- 39:49Speaker 2: does the yeah, you know, just it's Brad Pitt. He
- 39:52Speaker 2: plays Brad Pitt to a t.
- 39:55Speaker 1: My wife wants. He takes his shirt off, his.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Shirts off the whole time. Yeah, my shirts off the
- 39:59Speaker 2: whole time he's running. He's like a little aloof His
- 40:06Speaker 2: counterpart is very good as well. The Jonathan Pierce, the
- 40:11Speaker 2: guy that races with him, I'm not you know the names.
- 40:14Speaker 2: And then the Irish lasts that plays the technical coordinator
- 40:20Speaker 2: for the team is very good as well. They have
- 40:22Speaker 2: a little love interest. It's nice, but yeah, it's good.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I think it. The weird thing is is it gave
- 40:28Speaker 2: me weird flashbacks have Driven with Sylvester Stallone back in
- 40:32Speaker 2: the day. If you've seen Driven or anybody that's listening
- 40:35Speaker 2: has scene Driven, it's very similar. It's like especially like
- 40:39Speaker 2: and I can't spoil the last scene, but like it's
- 40:42Speaker 2: very similar to like Driven of like, you know, it's
- 40:45Speaker 2: this older guy that's out of the game and they
- 40:48Speaker 2: bring him back in to help the young guy that's
- 40:52Speaker 2: kind of finding his way because you know, they're in
- 40:55Speaker 2: trouble otherwise they haven't been able to finish a race
- 40:57Speaker 2: and they really need to get this guy that has
- 40:59Speaker 2: all this talent to figure it out. And then this
- 41:01Speaker 2: kid just resists. The old man at this are being like,
- 41:05Speaker 2: who's this guy? You're out of the game, you were
- 41:07Speaker 2: never was and being like, I can teach you some things, son,
- 41:10Speaker 2: and then they and then the teaching happens, and then
- 41:13Speaker 2: near the end he realizes, oh, my god, this guy
- 41:16Speaker 2: he knows, he knows what he's talking about. And anyway,
- 41:19Speaker 2: it's just one of those.
- 41:20Speaker 1: The story not particularly original, but the executioner.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah a little bit, yeah it, but it was the
- 41:27Speaker 2: cinematography of it and the way they filmed it and
- 41:30Speaker 2: as well as the music and and and just the
- 41:33Speaker 2: action side of it was great. Was great, And I
- 41:37Speaker 2: just say it's a great watch. If you're a fan
- 41:38Speaker 2: of Driving in F one, I mean, definitely go see it.
- 41:42Speaker 2: You'll love it. And even if you don't, they explain
- 41:44Speaker 2: a lot of it pretty well and they kind of
- 41:47Speaker 2: walk people through it that aren't necessarily like students of
- 41:50Speaker 2: the game. And I thought it was very, very very good.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I love the idea of the double bill because now
- 41:55Speaker 1: I want now I want to watch it and then
- 41:56Speaker 1: watch Driven.
- 41:57Speaker 2: That watch both.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I want you because you have a good mind for
- 42:01Speaker 2: it and like you'll be like, oh, yeah, this is
- 42:04Speaker 2: this is exactly.
- 42:04Speaker 1: But should I watch Driven first and then watch F
- 42:07Speaker 1: one or like I don't.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Know what, watch Driven first and then F one.
- 42:11Speaker 1: It's the rule that f fun for me.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Like christ it's so much show that I like I
- 42:17Speaker 2: went on you know because like I'll go on Twitter
- 42:18Speaker 2: and see like if people are thinking the same thing
- 42:20Speaker 2: as me, So I like put like in the search bar.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I was like Driven is like F one, and I
- 42:26Speaker 2: was trying to see if anybody was like being like,
- 42:28Speaker 2: is that the same plot the Sylvester Salona's Brad Pitt
- 42:31Speaker 2: And it's the same plot, feels the same, And you'll
- 42:36Speaker 2: know the scene exactly. Watch Driven first because you'll know
- 42:38Speaker 2: the scene and you'll text me during F one when
- 42:41Speaker 2: the scene happens, you're like, this was ripped off.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I can't exactly now. Now I'm actually really excited to
- 42:46Speaker 1: watch that one scene what I ripped off? Plagerism is
- 42:49Speaker 1: going on, good old Hollywood, No new ideas. F one
- 42:51Speaker 1: currently in theaters. Final NHL coaching vacancy filled in Glenn
- 42:55Speaker 1: Glisten named the Dallas Stars head coach. Served as Dallas's
- 42:57Speaker 1: head coach for two seasons before he coached the Flames
- 43:00Speaker 1: for a couple of years. He was an assistant for
- 43:01Speaker 1: Edmonton the past seven years. Dallas recent signs Matt tew Shane.
- 43:05Speaker 1: They did lose Gramlin As we talked about an koty
- 43:07Speaker 1: CC what do you make of this?
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got some work to do. I don't know.
- 43:12Speaker 2: The Spider Man meme is like see different than the
- 43:15Speaker 2: last version. And you know they had they do have
- 43:18Speaker 2: a lot of youth in Dallas and jim Nail there.
- 43:20Speaker 2: They're always great from you know, replenishing their team from
- 43:23Speaker 2: the miners, and they have these guys that just they're
- 43:27Speaker 2: just they developed so well and they draft so well.
- 43:29Speaker 2: So I'm not too worried about it. I think they're
- 43:31Speaker 2: gonna be right up there with everybody. I think this
- 43:35Speaker 2: is kind of the last dance, last chance you for
- 43:38Speaker 2: second and Ben and this will be their last opportunity.
- 43:42Speaker 2: So I think they're really going to go all in
- 43:43Speaker 2: as a team. Galardi and in this whole, this whole
- 43:46Speaker 2: franchise will go in to make sure they have one
- 43:48Speaker 2: last kick at winning or you know, if it's not
- 43:51Speaker 2: going good, I think they'll probably move one or both
- 43:53Speaker 2: those guys give them a chance to win. So I
- 43:55Speaker 2: could see Jamie Ben either going on one more long
- 43:58Speaker 2: playoff run or get moved as a rental and going
- 44:02Speaker 2: to UH attempt to win a Cup.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Long in the tooth you mentioned. Corey Perry obviously signed
- 44:07Speaker 1: with the Kings forty years of age, playing the cup
- 44:09Speaker 1: File five or the past six seasons. It's amazing. I'm
- 44:14Speaker 1: with you, like the King's like it's a nice little story.
- 44:15Speaker 1: But I still don't know. I mean, they've got work
- 44:17Speaker 1: to get over the hump. No one's gonna say this
- 44:19Speaker 1: all right now, they're gonna be a team.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I love Cody c s as a guy, but like
- 44:23Speaker 2: they give him sixteen what seventeen million or eighteen million
- 44:26Speaker 2: for four years?
- 44:27Speaker 1: Well thank you. This segues perfectly to the what the
- 44:30Speaker 1: what the hell were they thinking? The probo off deal
- 44:33Speaker 1: seven years in Columbus blew me away, j D. I said,
- 44:36Speaker 1: this guy, yeah, it's a second pair of defenseman. Yes,
- 44:40Speaker 1: maybe maybe he's a number two yeah yeah. To me,
- 44:43Speaker 1: he's a number three, number four, right, and I'm like
- 44:44Speaker 1: top three, top three seven years, like seven different pro
- 44:49Speaker 1: for off Like that blew me away. Like I was like,
- 44:52Speaker 1: maybe if your teams on the costume like came in,
- 44:54Speaker 1: we get the solid defense. Okay, fine, but Columbus, like
- 44:56Speaker 1: you're a borderline playoff team. You're two points back seven
- 44:59Speaker 1: years of ibprobra. It's a lot to surprise me that one.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I honestly had the double checkering that right, Like no
- 45:05Speaker 1: it's right years.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I see I see Ivan Provov and I raise your Tanner, Jane.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Tanner, you know Boston five year contract.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Well, what the fuck is Boston doing? Don Sweetey gets Hagins,
- 45:18Speaker 2: makes a good deal. Everybody goes, Okay, here we go.
- 45:22Speaker 2: There's a lot to love. And then it goes and
- 45:24Speaker 2: just brings in. Victor Arvid said Tanner, you know, and
- 45:27Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, no, what the fuck are we doing
- 45:31Speaker 2: over there? Like, just get it together? Are we in
- 45:34Speaker 2: or we out? Like I don't understand. It's just but yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 2: there's and again, guys are gonna get paid. I'm I'm
- 45:40Speaker 2: number one on the bandwagon for guys getting paid and
- 45:43Speaker 2: getting their money's worth. But I I went so far
- 45:47Speaker 2: as the tweet saying like congratulations the guys. But you know,
- 45:50Speaker 2: I'll offer my services if teams are looking to spend
- 45:53Speaker 2: some more spending the cap floor one more. Wait, just
- 45:57Speaker 2: sign me a million dollars and let me help out
- 45:59Speaker 2: the young guys, and I'll you know, be funny guy
- 46:02Speaker 2: and just you know, be a borderline coach. Yeah, just
- 46:05Speaker 2: let me in.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Thirty six year old Jason Numurs, to be clear, four
- 46:08Speaker 1: years younger still than your buddy Brent Burns, so don't
- 46:11Speaker 1: tell me we can't get to mercy.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Jonathan Taves is back in the league. He took three
- 46:14Speaker 2: years off. I took one and a half. I'm still
- 46:18Speaker 2: active in the community.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Still skating, still available, whatever you need. And Trent Frederick,
- 46:26Speaker 1: I think you had mentioned this before, the eight year
- 46:28Speaker 1: extension of that.
- 46:31Speaker 2: That's not going to age. Well.
- 46:32Speaker 1: No, all right, this was a ton of fun and
