- 0:00Dale having no drag Race experience whatsoever, he's
- 0:04never been down a drag strip or anything.
- 0:06It was a cool opportunity for us to give him that first
- 0:09experience and then it also be in the Dale truck, as we call
- 0:14it, that we've had for so many years.
- 0:16I mean, we're coming up on 7 or 8 years of owning it and
- 0:20probably every single video on it has said like you got to get
- 0:23Dale Junior to drive it. So, you know, my guys put a lot
- 0:27of time in the building it and we were excited to show it off.
- 0:30And then he also did like the most awesome burnout in it, made
- 0:34great runs and he was impressed by, you know, it was just a big
- 0:39win for my whole team, all my guys.
- 0:43And I loved seeing him a little scared of something.
- 0:46You know, he he let off the gas on his first hit because it was
- 0:50so fast. And it was just hilarious.
- 0:53I mean, he's so cool. We've all looked up to Dale
- 0:55Junior. So to even just spend time
- 0:58walking around the track with him was cool.
- 0:59But then to see him drive our truck, it was amazing.
- 1:02So I'd say the most memorable moment would be him chicken
- 1:06footing on the throttle and then, you know, doing that
- 1:10awesome burnout. You're probably the only person
- 1:12that can get away with calling Dale Junior chicken foot not get
- 1:16knocked. Upside the head, it's, it's one
- 1:18of those things, you know, if you check and put the gas on
- 1:21our, any of our videos, like you just, you're done, you're toast.
- 1:25We all just aren't going to roast you.
- 1:26And he, he knew he messed up when he came back, I said, man,
- 1:30the truck did something weird. And he's like, well, I, I might
- 1:33have let off the gas, you know, And then we pulled up the data
- 1:36log and it was all over for him. You know, we had had to do what
- 1:39we had to do. And this process from Daytona to
- 1:43hear all all the big names that you've now been able to lean on
- 1:49and work with and kind of absorb knowledge from as you've started
- 1:53this ARCA journey. What?
- 1:55What has it been like emotionally, mindset wise as
- 2:01Garrett Mitchell, the race car driver, outside of just the
- 2:05social media boon that this has been for you?
- 2:09Yeah, well, you know, all the guys that I've met, you know,
- 2:16Biffle and Junior and, you know, Alex Bowman, I've been friends
- 2:21with for a long time. They all offer a lot of great
- 2:24advice. But through this process, like
- 2:26you said, you know, the Garrett side of things, I've just become
- 2:29really good friends with them. So it just, it feels natural to
- 2:33hang out with them now. And their advice comes across as
- 2:37they, they actually want me to, to use it.
- 2:39And I tried to be as mindful as I can of, of so many different
- 2:43perspectives while I'm out there racing.
- 2:45But obviously I only got 19 laps in Daytona or whatever it was.
- 2:48So, you know, today, just like Ricky said, I've kind of, I've
- 2:54kind of combined everyone's advice into just being patient
- 2:57and surviving and down, you know, in the field because I'm
- 3:0327 or something like that. And so I, I'm just combining as
- 3:09much knowledge as I can to try and make the right decision.
- 3:12But it's cool having all these friends that are, are willing to
- 3:15take the time to give me their advice.
- 3:17I mean, everyone's got 10/15/2020 five years of advice.
- 3:21So it's, it's great. Feel really lucky.
- 3:23Do you have a, Do you have a story from the Blvd. that
- 3:28what's, what's the wildest story that you've got Maybe from the
- 3:31Talladega? Can you tell you something about
- 3:34the Talladega Blvd. You know, I, I preach, you know,
- 3:39just living the freedomatic life of being an American, but I
- 3:42don't know if I really knew the true meaning of freedom till I
- 3:45step foot on Talladega Blvd. I mean, we're parked up and
- 3:50there's just action happening. I, I can't get into the details
- 3:54because honestly, it's, it would just, it's just not, it's not
- 3:58cool, man. Whatever happens on Talladega
- 4:00Blvd. has to stay there. You know, I would say that if I
- 4:06posted some of the things that we saw, it would be my channel
- 4:09would be deleted. You know, it was just, it's just
- 4:12action. You know, it's like you just
- 4:17don't know till you know, You go on Talladega Blvd., you're
- 4:20seeing purebred Americans enjoying life to the absolute
- 4:25maximum. They love two things.
- 4:29That's boobs and turning left. You know what I mean?
- 4:32That's Talladega Blvd. down there, and they're just living
- 4:35that life. Morning, Jenna.
- 4:37Morning Garrett slash Cletus hit me.
- 4:42I noticed that you were Garrett when you first started and then
- 4:47in the second, the second answer you were both a mixture of
- 4:51Garrett and Cletus. So how do you decide when you're
- 4:55which person? Or are you just schizophrenic
- 4:58and like they just pop up? Schizophrenic for sure.
- 5:01I don't know, you know. You worked in both personalities
- 5:05in this. Last, I don't know, like, you
- 5:07know, when I first started the Cletus thing, it was like a
- 5:09redneck persona and then like just slowly Garrett and Cletus
- 5:15have merged into one and like, you know, it, it really depends
- 5:19on the environment, right? Like when I when I get in
- 5:24trouble and per SE have to go to the alcohol or for a chat, you
- 5:27know, that's Garrett. He's going in there.
- 5:30The other night we were at a campground and Jack Stand fired
- 5:34up the water slides and the employees were really mad.
- 5:37And, you know, Garrett had to go handle that situation.
- 5:39I had to go talk to the owner. But then when I pulled through
- 5:42the gates of Daga, you know, I'm just Cletus.
- 5:44It's like I really can't control it.
- 5:46I just, I don't know. It's a good question.
- 5:50Actually. I think I just lived my life as
- 5:52both. Or maybe it's just one.
- 5:55Now You're Cletus. Yeah.
- 5:57I mean, it really doesn't matter what people call me.
- 6:01I just am who I am now. And I just try to try to live my
- 6:08life how I want and have as much fun as possible with with my
- 6:11friends. Like, winning with your friends
- 6:13is the best. And so we just travel around and
- 6:16have a good time no matter who we are. 2nd tans ready kicking
- 6:20thetires.net. Obviously with such a massive
- 6:22following online, a lot of influence you know goes to your
- 6:26channel. What drivers do you follow that
- 6:28stand out to you online? And and possibly you know, you
- 6:31asked Ricky for advice. What would your advice be to
- 6:33drivers to perhaps branch out if they choose to do so?
- 6:38Like you're saying to help drivers with social media stuff.
- 6:42Well, I think, I think a lot of the drivers, you know, who are
- 6:46in Cup, they have so much experience.
- 6:48They've been around for a while and social media didn't really
- 6:50blow up when they were getting into it.
- 6:53So I do see some drivers who are really doing good jobs on social
- 6:57media and some that, you know, you just don't see much from.
- 7:01I don't, I don't know specifically who I'd who I'd
- 7:05call out on that. I mean, I root for Alex Bowman
- 7:07the most just because him and I have been friends for so long.
- 7:11And you know, I'm just trying to think of how to articulate your
- 7:17question. Like if they, I do feel like
- 7:22there's a major lack of, of YouTube opportunity in the
- 7:28garages, Like if I was a cup guy, I personally would be
- 7:32filming all that stuff. Just, you know, we film all our
- 7:34videos on an iPhone and maybe it does exist and we don't know
- 7:39about it. But like the same thing I do at
- 7:42my shop every day, working on the drag cars and stuff like
- 7:45that could easily be done in a cup garage.
- 7:47But I think there's a lot of secretism about the car setups
- 7:50and stuff and that could easily be avoided.
- 7:53But like, there's so much to show and I think the audience is
- 8:00kind of begging for it. So if a couple of these drivers,
- 8:03I don't know who's going to be first, starts showing what's
- 8:06going on, you know, in their day-to-day life.
- 8:08I think Carson Hosovar specifically is probably doing
- 8:12the most right now with the live streams and stuff.
- 8:14But like, if once someone picks up their iPhone and goes in
- 8:16their garages and is like showing the day-to-day struggles
- 8:21because to me, from the outside, like, it just seems like all the
- 8:24cup teams are like, so dialed in, so locked in.
- 8:27But we all know behind the scenes they're having, you know,
- 8:31some show days, for lack of better words.
- 8:34And we'd love to see it. You know, like my most of my
- 8:38videos that have done the best are on my worst days at the
- 8:41track when I like, you know, throw a rod out the side of a
- 8:44motor. People love those videos for
- 8:46some reason and it is hard some days posting it, but like man,
- 8:50I'm telling you once once 1 driver really throws, you know,
- 8:54some cool just homemade style YouTube videos up and it may
- 8:59exist. It may exist.
- 9:00I just think it's going to do really well for somebody.
- 9:02Bob Hackers, Fox Sports Do you feel like you're taken seriously
- 9:05yet from the other arc of drivers?
- 9:08Well, I mean, I only have 19 laps so and you know, I think
- 9:16the other drivers understand that I am here to I'm here not
- 9:20just as a driver, I'm here as a, you know, to do our to make our
- 9:25YouTube videos. They know that.
- 9:26So they know that I might not take this as serious as them,
- 9:29but I think all the drivers have a good understanding of that and
- 9:34they know that I'm out there to race like in Daytona, You know,
- 9:37I, I went out wrecking, right? And, but I feel like it wasn't
- 9:42anything that I caused. And if I went out there and made
- 9:45a fool of myself, you know, and wrecked a bunch of people, I
- 9:47think they wouldn't take me seriously.
- 9:49But I haven't done it anything yet that would cause them to not
- 9:55take me seriously. I don't think so.
- 9:58Oh, good question. Steven Toronto, CBS Sports
- 10:00Cletus, you mentioned only making 19 laps in the ARCA race
- 10:03at Daytona. Given that that thinned out the
- 10:07field so much and you know you're in a good race car with
- 10:10Red Jones Racing, you know, how much do you view that as a
- 10:13missed opportunity considering that, you know, if you had
- 10:17missed all that, you may have been one of those 10 cars in the
- 10:20lead pack that were competing for the win the last 20 laps?
- 10:23I mean, we went from 27th to 14th in whatever it was 19 laps.
- 10:29So man, that car was like feeling so good.
- 10:32It was sucking right up to everybody.
- 10:36Oh man, I mean, no doubt we would have been top ten if we
- 10:39kept going. Obviously the wreck, I was way
- 10:44back off the leaders, you know, there was a car all over the
- 10:47place and then I got wadded up. So it's hard to really say what
- 10:51was going to happen. But man, I feel like if we just
- 10:53stayed in it, we would have been if we made it past that last
- 10:56wreck like it was, I think it was smooth sailing, but we'll
- 10:59never know.
